    Description: As a result of the cognitive turn in psychology and educational science, music is gradually returning to its role, already anchored in antiquity, as a fundamental subject in school and out-of-school education. Recent studies and observations confirm that learning is facilitated and sustainably promoted through music lessons in kindergarten and school. These topics were addressed in various facets at the international congress Music and School - Aims and Paths of Music Education and discussed against the background of a holistic didactics of music. Selected contributions have been collected in this volume.; Musik kehrt in Folge der kognitiven Wende in der Psychologie und der Erziehungswissenschaft schrittweise wieder in ihre, bereits in der Antike verankerte Rolle als grundlegendes Fach in der schulischen und außerschulischen Erziehung zurück. Neuere Studien und Beobachtungen bestätigen, dass durch Musikunterricht in Kindergarten und Schule das Lernen erleichtert und nachhaltig gefördert wird. In verschiedenen Facetten wurden diese Themen auf dem internationalen Kongress Musik und Schule – Ziele und Wege der Musikpädagogik behandelt und vor dem Hintergrund einer ganzheitlichen Musikdidaktik diskutiert. Ausgewählte Beiträge wurden in diesem Band gesammelt.; Con la svolta cognitiva della psicologia e delle scienze dell’educazione, la musica riprende gradualmente il ruolo, delineato sin dall’antichità, di materia fondamentale per ogni processo educativo. Studi e indagini recenti confermano che nella scuola dell’infanzia e nella scuola primaria l’educazione musicale facilita e rafforza i processi di apprendimento come le relazioni tenute nell’ambito del convegno Musica e scuola – Obiettivi e metodi della Pedagogia musicale, qui raccolte, intendono dimostrare.

    Description: This action research (AR) study concerns an English for Specific Academic Purposes (ESAP) course taught to undergraduate economics students at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, a trilingual university in Italy whose degree programmes are taught in German, Italian and English. Despite English for Specific Purposes being an approach to address learner needs, no accurate needs analysis had been conducted. Therefore this study instituted a wide-ranging needs analysis and from the data collected a new learner-centred syllabus was developed for the ESAP course that blended elements from both a product and process approach to syllabus design using classroom negotiation to foster productive skills.

    Description: This volume presents a selection of eight papers presented at three symposia on English for Specific Purposes (ESP) and English for Academic Purposes (EAP) that were held at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, Italy. The experiences detailed in the chapters offer a representative sample of the diversity of approaches to teaching and assessing ESP and EAP that were shared on those occasions. The contributions vary markedly by teaching and research context: whereas some report the results of meticulously planned research projects, others describe in detail cases embedded in specific contexts in Italy and in the US; others analyse the specialised language of particular discourses or domains, or reflect upon teaching methods and materials.

    Description: Il miglioramento verso un assetto poligenerativo degli attuali impianti altoatesini di gassificazione della biomassa legnosa, dove oltre all’energia si possa produrre biochar di qualità da impiegare in agricoltura come ammendante con effetti positivi sulla fertilità dei suoli e sulla mitigazione dei cambiamenti climatici è la visione che ha sostenuto il progetto WOOD-UP. Il progetto, finanziato con fondi FESR 2014-2020, ha visto la collaborazione tra la Libera Università di Bolzano e il Centro di Sperimentazione Laimburg. L’analisi del ciclo di vita e di scenario dell’intera filiera di gassificazione ha evidenziato elementi di forza e di debolezza dell’attuale filiera in termini di impatti ambientali e ha permesso di avanzare proposte di miglioramento sulla base dei risultati ottenuti dalla sperimentazione.

    Description: Grundlegende Vision des Projektes WOOD-UP war die Entwicklung der bestehenden Holzvergasungsanlagen in Südtirol hin zu einer polygenerativen Nutzung, um neben Energie auch hochwertige Holzkohle (Biochar) zur Ver-besserung der Bodenfruchtbarkeit und des Klimaschutz erzeugen zu können. Das mit Mitteln aus dem Europäischen Fonds für regionale Entwicklung EFRE 2014–2020 finanzierte Projekt wurde von der Freien Universität Bozen gemeinsam mit dem Versuchszentrum Laimburg umgesetzt. Anhand der Lebenszyklusanalyse (LCA) bzw. der Szenarioanalyse der gesamten Produktionskette der Holzvergasung wurden Stärken und Schwächen der bestehenden Systeme hinsichtlich ihrer Auswirkungen auf die Umwelt aufgezeigt. Dank der erzielten Versuchsergebnisse konnte eine Reihe von Verbesserungsvorschlägen formuliert werden.

    Description: The volume sheds light on the close connection between the recognition of study titles in the EU and the cross-border mobility of EU citizens. The EU, which does not have competences in the field of education, but in the area of the fundamental personal freedoms of the internal market (free movement of workers, freedom of establishment and freedom to provide services), can adopt regulations that ensure the exercise of these fundamental freedoms and thus facilitate cross-border mobility. A special situation arises in the border region of South Tyrol, which has a common language and a common historical development with Austria. For the first time, this volume shows the significant advantage for students from South Tyrol of the so-called change of grades, an international agreement on the mutual recognition of academic degrees between Austria and Italy, beyond EU regulations.
    Description: Der Band beleuchtet den engen Zusammenhang zwischen der Anerkennung der Studientitel in der EU und der grenzüberschreitenden Mobilität der Unionsbürger:innen. Die EU, die zwar nicht im Bereich des Bildungswesens, jedoch im Bereich der personenbezogenen Grundfreiheiten des Binnenmarktes (Freizügigkeit der Arbeitnehmer:innen, Niederlassungsfreiheit und Dienstleistungsfreiheit) über Zuständigkeiten verfügt, kann Regelungen erlassen, welche die Ausübung dieser Grundfreiheiten sicherstellen und somit eine grenzüberschreitende Mobilität erleichtern. Eine besondere Situation ergibt sich in der Grenzregion Südtirol, die eine gemeinsame Sprache und eine gemeinsame historische Entwicklung mit Österreich verbindet. Der Band zeigt erstmals auf, welchen wesentlichen Vorteil für Studierende aus Südtirol der sogenannte Notenwechsel, ein völkerrechtliches Abkommen über die gegenseitige Anerkennung von akademischen Graden zwischen Österreich und Italien, jenseits unionsrechtlicher Regelungen darstellt.

    Description: "KiMu – Kinder als Musiker – Children as Musicians" is the name of a music project at South Tyrolean primary schools. As part of an empirical study in cooperation between the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano and the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Leipzig, three teaching units were videographed and inclusive qualities of music teaching were worked out with the help of high and low-inference qualitative research methods. Insights into the leading dimensions of inclusive teaching practice are gained and interpreted with the theoretical framework of resonance theory.; „KiMu – Kinder als Musiker“ nennt sich ein Klassenmusizierprojekt an Südtiroler Grundschulen. Im Rahmen einer empirischen Studie in Kooperation zwischen der Freien Universität Bozen und der Hochschule für Musik und Theater Leipzig wurden drei Unterrichtseinheiten videographiert und inklusive Qualitäten des Musikunterrichts mit Hilfe von hoch und niedrig inferenten qualitativen Forschungsverfahren herausgearbeitet. Dabei werden Einblicke in die Leitdimensionen inklusiver Unterrichtspraxis gewonnen und diese mit dem theoretischen Rahmen der Resonanztheorie interpretiert.

    Description: Comparative studies of mountain areas have long been at the core of the discussion about the relations between nature and culture as well as on environmental and social change. This volume searches for ways to develop further critical comparative perspectives in the study of cultures in mountain areas by drawing inter- and transdisciplinary links amongst anthropology, geography, folklore studies, montology, and global history.     Description: The book addresses the issue of the good performance of public administration using an interdisciplinary approach (legal, political, corporate, and economic). The concepts of efficiency and effectiveness have been defined in the field of business sciences, but have had a much wider impact. An efficient and effective administrative system, in fact, affects the system of values that are the basis of our society, since it makes it possible for citizens to concretely enjoy the services that are recognized by the regulatory system. This requirement appears even more meaningful in Italy, where the principle of so-called "substantial" equality is recognized by the Constitution.; Il libro affronta la questione del buon andamento della pubblica amministrazione usando un approccio interdisciplinare (giuridico, politologico, aziendalistico, ed economico). I concetti di efficienza ed efficacia sono stati definiti nell’ambito delle scienze aziendalistiche, ma hanno avuto un impatto ben più ampio. Un sistema amministrativo efficiente ed efficace, infatti, incide sul sistema di valori che sono a base della nostra società, poiché rende possibile ai cittadini fruire concretamente dei servizi che sono loro riconosciuti dall’ordinamento normativo. Tale esigenza appare ancora più pregnante in Italia, ove il principio di eguaglianza “sostanziale” è riconosciuto dalla Costituzione.

    Description: This history of Ladin literature provides for the first time a comprehensive overview of 230 Dolomite-Ladin authors from the beginnings of Ladin literature (17th century) up to contemporary Ladin writing (2012). Each article on the authors contains a detailed biography, a complete catalog of works and a review of the oeuvre based on a representative sample of original texts, also translated into German. This new standard reference of Rhaeto-Romance Studies is completed by introductory chapters on the beginnings and the development of Ladin literature, its genres and themes, the history of research, the presence of Ladin literature in the Ladin-speaking media, the presence of Ladinia in German and Italian literature as well as a name index with as many as 3,000 entries.

This opens up new research areas for linguistics: on the one hand, the communicative acts of members of a language community in everyday life and in specialized settings; on the other hand, the variable contexts of the speech acts, which require the co-orientation of social actors, which in turn also needs to be acquired and practiced like the languages with their formal and structural characteristics. Based upon these premises, this volume presents findings and theoretical approaches which make corpus findings available for the study and the didactics of language teaching concerning the the three school languages ??of German, Italian and English. Special emphasis is put on the varieties of the German language in South Tyrol and the interface problem.
    Description: Die Vermittlung von Wissen steht heute vor einer zweifachen Herausforderung: dem Anspruch auf Verständlichkeit trotz hoher Komplexität der Inhalte und dem Erreichen akzeptabler Ergebnisse in der Schule in Situationen von immer größerer Diversität. Daraus ergeben sich für die Sprachwissenschaft neue Schwerpunkte: eine konstante Besinnung auf die Phänomene, das sind die kommunikativen Akte von Mitgliedern einer Sprachgemeinschaft im Alltag und in Bereichen fachlicher Spezialisierung, das sind aber auch variable Kontexte der Sprechakte, die eine Koorientierung der sozialen Akteure verlangen, die ebenso gelernt und geübt werden muss, wie die Sprachen in ihren formalen und strukturellen Eigenheiten. In diesem Band werden Forschungen und theoretische Ansätze vorgelegt, die ausgehend von diesen Prämissen Korpusrecherchen für die Erforschung und für die didaktische Vermittlung der drei Schulsprachen Deutsch, Italienisch und Englisch nutzbar machen. Besondere Schwerpunkte sind Varietäten der deutschen Sprache in Südtirol und die Interface-Problematik.

    Description: Italiano con l'immaginario introduces a humanistic approach of language teaching little known in Italy, deriving from the French teaching tradition. Simulation globale is a language teaching course which, instead of offering many detached activities and using a standard manual, follows a path on which all elements are connected by a narrative thread. Thus, the oral and written production of a large number of texts takes place within a very motivating context.

    Description: The first volume of the series “Scripta Ladina Brixinensia” edited by Paul Videsott is dedicated to the Ladin language in the educational system – compulsory schools, secondary schools, universities/colleges – in the regions of Trentino-Alto Adige and Friuli as well as in the Canton of Grisons. The focus is on the Ladin department, a unique feature of the Free University of Bolzano, aiming at the documentation, description and the development of the Ladin language. The final contribution presents the volume Sprachen im Vergleich: Deutsch-Ladinisch-Italienisch which is designed as a teaching aid for multilingual language teaching in Ladin schools.

    Description: This bibliographic documentation follows the two comprehensive bibliographies on the Rhaeto-Romance language, the Rätoromanische Bibliographie (Maria Iliescu / Heidi Siller-Runggaldier) and the Rätoromanische Bibliographie 1985-1997 (Heidi Siller-Runggaldier / Paul Videsott). All data contained in these works have been integrated in this bibliography and updated until 2010. The nearly 5000 entries that cover a period from 1729 to 2010 are newly arranged according to subject areas and chronologically increasing publication dates. Consequently, this bibliography becomes a sort of “reading book of the history of science" representing the state of the art of international Rhaeto-Romance studies.

    Description: The inequalities in education, which have also been exposed by the pandemic, highlight the need for alternatives and new horizons. The seventh edition of the conference series "Didattica e Inclusione Scolastica – Inclusion in Education", which was organized for the first time under the direction of the Competence Center for Inclusion in Education of the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, offered a space to deal with the priorities of a just and inclusive education during this time. This volume opens up a dialogue on inclusive didactics, which builds a bridge between german- and Italian-speaking traditions through its multilingual and intercultural orientation.     Description: This book depicts the results of a research project in northern China, where an international and interdisciplinary team of researchers from Italy, Germany and China has applied a broad range of methodology in order to answer basic and applied research questions and derive comprehensive recommendations for sustainable water management and wetland restoration. The project primarily focused on ecosystem services, e.g. the purification of water and biomass production. In particular, the ecosystem function and use of reed (Phragmites australis) and the perception as well as the value of water as a resource for Central Asia's multicultural societies was analysed.

    Description: This collection presents the state of the art on English-medium instruction (EMI) / Integrating content and language (ICL) in Italian higher education, drawing attention to different critical aspects of the teaching/learning experience and highlighting the perspectives of various educational stakeholders regarding the effectiveness of tertiary study in a foreign language. The chapters draw on a range of methodologies, from multimodal participant observation, to action research, to video-stimulated recall (VSR), to questionnaires and interviews, in examining language policies and practices across various educational settings. Overall, the volume suggests that internationalisation succeeds best when the form of lessons (language) and the content of lessons (disciplinary concepts) are constructively aligned in curriculum planning and delivery. This integration process requires the strategic support of educators to guarantee the quality of learning in multilingual education.
