    Description: This volume explores the issues of using e-learning in university and of developing and using a “blended learning” teaching method for the course of Computer Science from the first year of the the Medicine and Surgery Degree of the University of Florence. This course was used as a trial for the peer-review teaching method, which can be useful in classes with a high number of students; this publication also includes a selection of the best works produced by the students. The results of the trial prove the advantages of using the peer-review teaching method for other university courses, and the students' works on e-health give current medical practitioners insights on how to use ICT in their practice with skill and care.

    Catene di Markov e applicazioni algoritmiche (2024)

    Description: Markov chains represent a classical topic of probability theory that has a large number of applications in different areas, including mathematics, computer science, physics, biology, natural science, economics and several others. Typical examples of Markovian models concern for instance the analysis and interpretation of DNA sequences, voice recognition and the design of procedures for analysis and browsing of the web. In computer science and in particular in the algorithmic area Markov chains have been used to introduce the so-called Markov Chain Monte Carlo methods, which allow us to design probabilistic approximation algorithms for solving NP-hard problems. This work presents Markov chains and their algorithmic applications in a mathematical style, with a didactic spirit. It mainly has educational purposes, and it is specifically designed for teaching these topics in Italian university courses at a master level.

    Description: Le catene di Markov rappresentano un argomento di studio classico, di carattere matematico e probabilistico, che ha trovato un grande numero di applicazioni in varie discipline, dall’informatica alla matematica, dalla fisica alla biologia e alle scienze naturali, dalla sociologia all'economia e in molti altri contesti. Esempi tipici di modelli markoviani riguardano l'analisi e l’interpretazione di sequenze di DNA, il riconoscimento di segnali vocali, il disegno di procedure di esplorazione e analisi della rete web. In un ambito informatico e soprattutto algoritmico le catene di Markov hanno dato origine ai cosiddetti metodi Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC), che consentono di definire algoritmi probabilistici di approssimazione per problemi difficili dal punto di vista computazionale. Questo testo presenta le catene di Markov e alcune loro applicazioni algoritmiche in uno stile matematico con un taglio principalmente didattico, rivolto in particolare agli studenti dei corsi di laurea magistrale a carattere scientifico delle università italiane.

    Description: Our healthcare system is undergoing considerable transformation; standards are changing and established ways of working are being challenged. One change that has consequences for nursing services is increasing digitalization, with new information systems existing alongside paper-based and analogue systems. In this anthology, we have gathered contributions from researchers from a broad spectrum of disciplines and research traditions. Our objective has been to thematicize key perspectives on information and documentation work in the nursing profession during this period of increasing digitalization. We accomplish this objective by focusing on the changing role of the patient, nurses’ record-keeping and important tools that have an impact on quality and collaboration in healthcare services.

    Description: Questo volume si inserisce in una linea di riflessione che, nella sua fisionomia generale, va ricondotta all’ampio dibattito, nazionale ed internazionale, sui temi connessi alle trasformazioni dell’identità della biblioteca e della biblioteca pubblica in particolare, secondo una prospettiva che è anche quella della “lunga durata”, prendendo in esame questioni che hanno a che fare con la dimensione spaziale di questa problematica identità, o che comunque dal concetto di spazio, nella sua indefinita dimensione teorica, estetica, metaforica, traggono origine. A questo asse centrale del libro si collegano ulteriori temi, dalla discussione della evoluzione in senso ‘sociale’ della biblioteconomia alla riflessione storico-architettonica sul concetto di ‘canone’, dalla ipotesi di “arricchire” lo spazio percettivo della biblioteca fino al tema, di grande interesse, della selezione, raccolta ed analisi dei dati digitali. Dati che, in quanto tracce, rendono disponibili informazioni sulle azioni e sulle attività riferibili al modo con cui le persone “leggono” la forma dell’ambiente bibliotecario e del suo complesso ecosistema informativo.

In quest’opera, Ernest Abadal ha l’obiettivo di chiarire i dubbi e fraintendimenti più frequenti riguardo l’Open Access, presentando le basi teoriche di questo sistema, il ruolo delle riviste scientifiche e l’attitudine dei ricercatori, nonché una stima di quali siano le prospettive future.
