    Description: Die Geschichte Brandenburgs war nach 1945 von einschneidenden Umbrüchen geprägt, deren Auswirkungen bis heute spürbar sind. Der Befreiung von der NS-Herrschaft durch die Rote Armee folgte unter den Bedingungen der sowjetischen Besatzungsherrschaft ein umfassender Wandel der politischen, wirtschaftlichen, gesellschaftlichen und kulturellen Verhältnisse. Dieser langwierige und überaus schwierige Prozess machte aus Brandenburg in den Jahren von 1945 bis 1952 ein „Land zwischen den Zeiten“. Der Band gibt einen umfassenden Überblick über die wechselvolle Entwicklung Brandenburgs zwischen 1945 und 1952, die keineswegs geradlinig in die SED-Diktatur führte. Sieben Beiträge beleuchten die politischen Rahmenbedingungen ebenso wie die Wirtschaft, Gesellschaft und Kultur sowie das weite Feld der staatlichen Repression. Der Band führt die bisherigen Forschungen zusammen und bietet darüber hinaus neue Perspektiven.

    Description: Die Bodenreform in der SBZ löste eine nie dagewesene Siedlungsbewegung aus. Eine solche hatte es in Deutschland noch nie gegeben; es wird sie nie wieder geben. Aus Gutsländereien mussten 5-ha-Höfe geschnitten, den Neubauern Haus und Hof gebaut und alles in eine sinnvolle Ordnung des ländlichen Raumes gebracht werden. Wolfgang Blöß behandelt mit der Siedlungsplanung die Schnittstelle zwischen Landaufteilung und Neubauern-Bauprogramm und stellt diese in den historischen Kontext. Er arbeitet den Aufbau der dafür erforderlichen Verwaltungsorganisation im Spannungsverhältnis zwischen Zentrale und Gliedern der SBZ sowie zwischen deutschen und Besatzungsbehörden ebenso heraus wie Diskussion und Erlass der erforderlichen Richtlinien und Weisungen. Diese wurden vom Umgang mit den Gutsanlagen und der Konzeption des geschlossenen Dorfes bestimmt. Im Fokus steht auch die Arbeit der Planer und Architekten, die sich schwierigsten Bedingungen und einem unerbittlichen Zeitdruck zu stellen hatten. Ihr Arbeitsergebnis, den Dorfbebauungsplan, stellt Blöß vor und führt die in diesem Zusammenhang sicht- und erlebbare, von Widersprüchen geprägte soziale Lage im Dorf vor Augen. Dieses Buch enthält sind 19 s/w Tab, 12 s/w Abb. und 11 farb. Abb.

    Description: Lange Zeit blieb Arnswalde im Zweiten Weltkrieg von militärischen Auseinandersetzungen verschont. Erst Anfang Februar 1945 belagerten sowjetische Truppen die Stadt. Tausende Bewohner konnten nicht mehr rechtzeitig fliehen und wurden in Arnswalde eingeschlossen. Zwei Wochen lang bangten sie um ihr Leben; bis die deutsche Wehrmacht sie schließlich vom Feind unbemerkt aus der Stadt schleusen konnte. In dieser Quellenedition kommen neben Autoritätspersonen vor allem einfache Bürger zu Wort; die eindrucksvoll von ihrer Flucht aus der eingeschlossenen Stadt berichten; von ihrer Rückkehr in die Heimat; ihrer späteren Vertreibung und von den Schwierigkeiten beim Neuanfang westlich der Oder in einer Gesellschaft; die sie nicht wollte. „Man bleibt eben immer ‚der Flüchtling‘; etwas bemitleidet; geduldet; manchem allein schon durch seinen Anblick lästig; da er nur zu sehr an die Vergänglichkeit irdischen Besitzes erinnert“; schrieb der Arnswalder Lehrer Werner Riepe 1946 an seine Lebensgefährtin. Seine Einschätzung scheint angesichts heutiger politischer und gesellschaftlicher Entwicklungen immer noch erschreckend aktuell zu sein.

Das Städtebuch strukturiert alle Artikel nach einer einheitlichen Gliederung, die in 20 übergeordneten Punkten die wichtigsten Fakten zur Stadt bietet; unter anderem wird über Namen, Ursprung, geografische Lage, Rechtswesen, Wirtschaft, Verwaltung, Herrschaftsverhältnisse, Finanzen, Religion und Bildungswesen informiert. Das ‚Städtebuch Historisches Ostbrandenburg‘ ergänzt das 2000 veröffentlichte ‚Städtebuch Brandenburg und Berlin‘ um die Städte östlich von Oder und Neiße, die 1939 zur Provinz Brandenburg gehörten. Die Artikel enthalten reiche Angaben zu allen Bereichen des städtischen Lebens und berücksichtigen auch umfassend die polnische Entwicklung von 1945 bis zur Gegenwart.

    Description: Was wäre Brandenburg ohne seine vielen Einwanderer? Ohne die Hugenotten, ohne die Böhmen – und die Schweizer!? Die Zuwanderung von Schweizer Kolonisten nach Brandenburg hat die Migrationsforschung bisher nur marginal wahrgenommen. Der „Große Kurfürst“ Friedrich Wilhelm hatte sich, nachdem es in der Schweiz Ende des 17. Jahrhunderts zu enormen sozialen Spannungen gekommen war, 1683 an den Bürgermeister und den Rat der Stadt Bern gewandt: Er bat um Überlassung von „Zehen oder Zwantzig Familien“, „welche der Wirthschafft und Viehzucht wohl erfahren seyn“. Die Folgenbewältigung des 30-jährigen Krieges, der die Kurmark vielerorts entvölkert hatte, war für ihn oberstes Staatsziel. Unter den nachgeborenen Schweizer Söhnen fanden sich viele Einwanderwillige, sodass eine Auswahl unter ihnen nötig wurde, „denn es ginge um die Ehre der Schweizerischen Nation.“ Auch heute noch kann man den Stolz dieser kleinen Einwanderungsgruppe in Nattwerder erleben. Dietmar Bleyl untersucht ihr Schicksal sowohl unter dem wirtschaftlichen Aspekt (bis ins 19. Jahrhundert) als auch unter dem konfessionellen Aspekt (bis 1949) und schließt damit eine Lücke in der bisherigen Forschung.

Keine andere brandenburgische Landschaft hat ihre Eigenart so scharf und so deutlich ausgeprägt. Ihre beiden bestimmenden Stände, Adel und Städte, haben sich allen zentralisierenden Bestrebungen ihres Landesherrn zum Trotz mit ihrem Geschick und Selbstbehauptungswillen und aus der jahrhundertelangen Erfahrung relativer Eigenständigkeit die Eigentümlichkeiten ihrer abgegrenzten überschaubaren Lebenswelt in gleichbleibenden oder gewandelten Formen zu behaupten vermocht. Die einzelnen Untersuchungen des Bandes kreisen darum, wie die Neumärker in freundschaftlichem Zusammenwirken ebenso wie in kontroverser Auseinandersetzung mit der kurfürstlichen Zentrale in Berlin, zwischen den Polen von „Resistenz“ und „Anpassung“ (Frank Göse) ihr eigenes Land und sein Verfassungsgefüge in politischer, sozialer und wirtschaftlicher Hinsicht auszugestalten trachteten.

    Description: Rudolf Lehmann (1891–1984), der führende Landeshistoriker der Niederlausitz, trug seit 1949 vom Landesarchiv Lübben aus als dessen Leiter durch seine archivischen Leistungen, seine wissenschaftlichen Veröffentlichungen und seine wissenschaftsorganisatorischen Initiativen maßgeblich zur Wiederbelebung der brandenburgischen Landesgeschichtsforschung nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg bei. Der bürgerliche Archivar und Historiker geriet dabei aber zunehmend in Konflikte mit dem SED-Staat um seine wissenschaftliche Freiheit und sah sich daher zuerst zum Rückzug vom Amt, später zur Übersiedlung in die Bundesrepublik gezwungen. Seine eindringlichen Tagebücher aus den Jahren 1945–1964 beleuchten darüber hinaus eindrucksvoll die Politik der frühen DDR zur gesellschaftlichen Durchsetzung der kommunistischen Diktatur. Der editorische Sachkommentar und die Einleitung verhelfen zu einem vertieften Verständnis der Tagebucheinträge und ordnen ihre subjektiven Bekenntnisse in übergeordnete allgemein- und wissenschaftspolitische Zusammenhänge ein.

    Description: Im 17. Jahrhundert verfasste der Prenzlauer Pfarrer Christoph Süring (1615–1673) in drei Handschriften eine umfangreiche Darstellung der Geschichte seiner Heimatstadt. Süring versammelt in den Ereignis-Chronologien eine überwältigende Auskunft über Personen und Begebenheiten, Institutionen von Stadt und Kirche, Strukturen und Hierarchien, Krankheiten und Epidemien, Todesfälle und -ursachen, Morde und Kriminalität, Hinrichtungen und Hexenprozesse, Unfälle und Katastrophen, Kämpfe zwischen weltlicher Obrigkeit und Geistlichkeit, Kriege und ihre Folgen. Landeskundliche und stadttopographische Kapitel schildern die Uckermark und den Platz der Stadt Prenzlau in dieser Landschaft, ihre Gründung, innere Gliederung, territoriale Zugehörigkeit sowie Kämpfe um die Stadt und ihre Rechtssituation. Für diese Chronik, die hier erstmals vollständig nach den Originalhandschriften erscheint, nutzte Süring ausgiebig Quellen des Prenzlauer Ratsarchivs, die teilweise heute nicht mehr erhalten sind. So kommt seinem Manuskript besonders für die Zeit seit dem 14. Jahrhundert ein erheblicher Quellenwert zu.

    Description: Spannend schildert der Autor den Wandel des niederlausitzischen Landvogtamtes in den Jahren von 1490 bis 1620. Er zeichnet nicht nur ein Bild von den Persönlichkeiten der Landvögte, von ihren familiären Hintergründen, ihren politischen Karrieren und den Gründen ihrer Amtseinführung, sondern geht auch auf das Verhältnis zwischen dem König und den niederlausitzischen und böhmischen Ständen ein. Denn im 15. Jahrhundert kam ein neuer Machtfaktor ins Spiel – die Stände, die über das Schicksal ihres Landes mitentscheiden wollten und dafür einen schwachen Landvogt aus eigenen Reihen einem treuen Diener des Königs vorzogen. Der Autor verweist im notwendigen Maß auch auf das Geschehen in den übrigen Ländern der Böhmischen Krone und erfasst die Veränderung in den Kompetenzen der Landvögte sowie die Funktion und personelle Besetzung ihres Amtsapparates. Mit dieser breiten Fragestellung und dem großen Umfang der ausgewerteten Quellen unterscheidet sich diese historische Darstellung grundlegend von anderen Abhandlungen, die bisher zum Thema verfasst worden sind.

Die Ortsbeschreibungen werden ergänzt durch einen umfangreichen Index, ein Wüstungsregister und eine kartografische Darstellung der Altmark. Somit steht Historikern und ortsgeschichtlich Interessierten ein umfassendes Nachschlagewerk zur Verfügung, das auf der umfassenden Auswertung der gedruckten Literatur, aber vor allem der archivalischen Zeugnisse beruht und das als Grundlage für weiterführende lokalhistorische Arbeiten unverzichtbar bleiben wird.

    Description: Nach 1989/90 erreichten das Brandenburgische Landeshauptarchiv verstärkt Anfragen zu politischen Leitungsträgern auf Kreis- und Stadtebene aus den Jahren 1945–1952. Ortschronisten und Gemeindeverwaltungen suchten Biografien im Zusammenhang mit der Benennung von Straßen, Plätzen oder Gebäuden. Wissenschaftler erforschten die Strukturen der ehemaligen Landesverwaltung und deren Leiter. Zusammenhängende Angaben dazu lagen jedoch bisher nicht vor. Neben Landräten, Oberbürgermeistern und ihren Stellvertretern stellt Torsten Hartisch auch das leitende Personal der Oberlandratsämter, der Hauptabteilungen, Abteilungen und Referate der Provinzialverwaltung bzw. der Landesregierung in rund 490 Kurzbiografien vor. Ergänzt wird der Band mit einer Aufstellung der Mitglieder der Kreisräte, der Stadträte der kreisfreien Städte, der Vorstände der Kreistage und der Stadtverordnetenversammlung (rund 2000 Personen im Personenindex). Eine Aufstellung der wichtigsten Verwaltungsstrukturen auf Landesebene hilft bei einem schnellen Einstieg und Überblick.

Um aus der verwüsteten Provinz ein lebensfähiges Land zu schaffen, gab es große Herausforderungen zu bewältigen: Die Siegermächte hatten neue Grenzen gezogen und das Territorium beschnitten. Flüchtlingstrecks waren über das Land gezogen und oft dort geblieben, wo sich gerade Obdach bot. Staatliche und kommunale Verwaltung existierte nicht mehr, ihre Träger waren geflohen oder festgesetzt. Die Chance, an Strukturen und Erfahrungen aus der Weimarer Republik anknüpfen zu können, war gering, zu groß der gesellschaftliche Umbruch in der SBZ. Trotzdem musste der Neuaufbau von einer kritischen Prüfung der über Jahrhunderte gewachsenen administrativ-territorialen Ordnung ausgehen. Wolfgang Blöß greift in seiner Analyse Fragen von Grenzverständnis, Grenzverlauf und Grenzänderung auf und untersucht die Problemstellung und Ergebnisse des Prozesses, aus dem die inneren Grenzen Brandenburgs nach 1945 hervorgingen, ehe das Land sich in einen neuen Staat fügte, wie es ihn zuvor noch nie gegeben hatte.

Daraus erwächst von selbst der vergleichende Aspekt, wie er auch den ostelbischen Regionen der Mark Brandenburg gilt. Die Vergleiche heben die Merkmale hervor, die die Altmark bis zum Ende des Alten Reiches charakterisieren: eigenständige Gerichtsinstanzen, gute besitz- und personenrechtliche Verhältnisse der bäuerlichen Bevölkerung, eine auf verbriefte Privilegien wie auf angemaßte Observanzen pochende Ritterschaft, starke kommunale Kräfte in Stadt und Land, Bürgerschaften und Landgemeinden, die ihren Anspruch auf Selbst- und Mitbestimmung nicht aufgaben und auch im Zeitalter des Absolutismus um ökonomische, soziale und kulturelle Freiräume kämpften. Das manifestiert sich in vielfältigen, aus archivalischen Quellen ermittelten sozialen wie individuellen Handlungen, Verhaltens-, Lebens- und Denkweisen unterschiedlicher Interessengemeinschaften und gesellschaftlicher Gruppierungen in ihrem Mit- und Gegeneinander. Das Buch wendet sich sowohl an Fachkollegen der Landes-, Agrar- und Stadt-, Siedlungs-, Verfassungs-, Wirtschafts- und Sozial-, Kultur- und Alltagsgeschichte als auch an historisch Interessierte überhaupt, an Regional- und Ortshistoriker. Peter Bahl zeichnet erstmals auf breiter Quellenbasis ihre Ankunft und Integration sowie die Erinnerungskultur bis zur Gegenwart nach. Neben Akten lässt er dabei vielfach Zeitzeugen sowohl aus dem Kreis der Vertriebenen als auch dem der Einheimischen zu Wort kommen. An die Darstellung der Ereignisgeschichte schließt er eine Dokumentation für alle Städte und ausgewählte Landgemeinden mit handbuchartigen Informationen zur konkreten lokalen Entwicklung in 340 Orten an. In einem Editionsteil sind ferner 261 Quellentexte aus den Jahren 1945–2018 abgedruckt, die sich für eine vertiefende Beschäftigung mit dem Thema in Bildungsarbeit und Wissenschaft eignen.

Die faktische Abschaffung der Länder und ihre Neugliederung in 14 Bezirke stellten den tiefgreifendsten Umbau der Staatsorganisation der DDR in all den Jahren ihres Bestehens dar. Die hier präsentierten 62 Quellen dokumentieren die Bildung und Etablierung der Bezirke in Brandenburg von 1952 bis 1960. Die Beweggründe und konzeptionellen Überlegungen der Initiatoren stehen ebenso im Blickfeld wie die konkreten Maßnahmen und praktischen Probleme des Übergangs von der Länder- zur Bezirksstruktur. Der Fokus richtet sich außerdem auf die Beziehungen zwischen den Instanzen, deren Qualität sich in Kontrollberichten, Verhandlungsprotokollen, intern gehaltenen Einschätzungen und nicht zuletzt in Erfahrungsberichten von Partei- und Staatsfunktionären niederschlug. Der informelle und interne Charakter dieser Quellen ermöglicht es, die bürokratische Praxis der DDR zu untersuchen und zugleich die Grenzen einer Selbstevaluierung des politischen und administrativen Systems zu erkennen.

    Description: This work covers the dominant aspects of landforms and processes related to the cold-climate (periglacial) and hyperarid environment of Mars and relates the knowledge obtained from terrestrial research to possible Martian analogue landforms. Among the plethora of landforms related to cold-climate environments and subsurface permafrost on Mars, those features have been investigated in detail that are related to the creep of ice and debris at the Martian dichotomy escarpment and the southern-hemispheric impact basins, especially Hellas Planitia, and which have been described controversially as either glacial or periglacial in nature. Structures related to seasonal freeze-thaw cycles on Mars which are generally known as thermal contraction polygons form a second major focus of this work. Research presented on this topic focuses on the northern hemispheric Utopia Planitia area and the south-polar cap of Mars. This work was carried out on the basis of observational and geomorphometrical analyses by utilizing imaging-sensor and topographic data in order to address questions regarding the history, development, and current state of cold-climate landforms on Mars. This work provides new insights with respect to age, composition, source of debris and ice, and the deformational and degradational history of lobate debris aprons and similar landforms. It is shown that processes which led to creep of debris and ice at the northern hemispheric dichotomy boundary are transitional in nature and are not easily categorized using standard definitions commonly used in terrestrial research...

    Description: Im Rahmen verschiedener Drittelmittelprojekte waren vom Autor Wechselstrommessungen bei z.T. sehr kleinen Signal- zu Rauschverhältnissen durchzuführen. In den ariden Messgebieten (Ägypten, Sudan) waren hierfür die schlechten Ankopplungsbedingungen verantwortlich, in den dicht besiedelten Gebieten (Stadtgebiet Berlin) die hohen Störspannungspegel. Trotz konsequenter Anwendung von Filter- und Stapelungstechniken, blieb die Datenqualität bisweilen unakzeptabel niedrig. Inspiriert durch multivariate Zeitreihenanalysentechniken der Audiomagnetotellurik wurde vom Autor eine geoelektrische Referenztechnik mathematisch formuliert und mit Hilfe von speziell hierfür gefertigten mehrkanaligen Geoelektrikapparaturen erfolgreich eingesetzt. Anhand von Fallbeispielen wurde demonstriert, dass die Anwendung der geoelektrischen Referenztechnik den statistischen Messfehler sowohl im Gelände als auch im Labor um bis zu 2 Größenordnungen verringern kann. Anders als Stapelungstechniken vermindert die Referenztechnik den Messfortschritt jedoch nicht. Ein ungünstig gewählter Referenzstationsstandort kann zu systematisch verfälschten Messwerten führen.     Description: Zu einem aktuellen Thema der Geodäsie werden in Form geeigneter Berechnungsverfahren im Spektralbereich wie auch im Zeitbereich Auswertestrategien zur Bestimmung globaler Erdschwerefeldmodelle anhand von Satellitenbeobachtungsdaten diskutiert. Die praktische Aufgabenstellung zur Bewältigung solcher hochgenauer, automatisierter Messtechniken erfordert ein allgemeines Lösungskonzept mittels dem irregulär verteilte, heterogene Messdaten über ein theoretisch einwandfreies Verfahren miteinander verknüpft werden können. Zur Bildung der Normalgleichungssysteme im Sinne einer Ausgleichung mit voller Korrelation müssen dazu die Beobachtungspositionen anhand der Kugelfunktionen integriert werden. Durch die Zerlegung der Kugelfunktionen in deren spektrale Basisfunktionen lässt sich der notwendige Arbeitsaufwand in zwei grundlegende Arbeitsschritte aufteilen, einmal in Abhängigkeit von der Anzahl der Daten und einmal Abhängig von der Grösse des Rechenmodelles. Die Integration der Daten kann daher im ersten Schritt äusserst effizient vollzogen werden, während die daran anschliessende Berechnung der Normalgleichungen und deren Inversion in Abhängigkeit von der jeweiligen Auflösung als konstant zu betrachten ist...
