Description: This dissertation examines intelligence surveillance of private telecommunications and its compatibility with the international human right to privacy in Art. 17 ICCPR and in Art. 8 ECHR. These articles provide comprehensive protection against the most modern forms of surveillance including bulk interception. Several criteria apply in terms of the foreseeability of the surveillance laws. Telecommunication’s interception should be subject to authorisation and supervision by independent authorities and effective remedies should be available. Moreover, the study analyzes the extent to which the surveilling state and the state of residence violate their human rights obligations in cases of cross-border surveillance. The main question is whether the established definitions of "jurisdiction" are applicable to this extraterritorial scenario. The extraterritorial exercise of jurisdiction can also be based on effective control over specific objects relevant to human rights. According to this approach, telecommunications data are objects relevant to individual’s right to correspondence and data protection.

Description: With a diversity-sensitive and discrimination-critical view, the anthology addresses the significance of power relations within school cultures, structures, and practices. A variety of perspectives are presented in plain and simple language as well as in specialized language. The texts by authors with very different experiences of inclusion and exclusion in the field of education provide stimuli for reflection for lecturers and students in the context of teacher education, practicing teachers, (former) students, and all other interested parties. The volume is intended to encourage readers to engage in (language-)barrier-sensitive reflection and exchange on issues of power in the context of inclusive school development.

Description: With the end of the 19th century, a debate about the normal and the abnormal also emerged within pedagogy, especially by reference to psychiatric and juridical discourses. Supported by new administrative statistics, discourses and dispositives emerged that aimed not least at normalizing social deviance. This volume traces various discourses on the production of the pedagogical (a)normal between 1900 and 1970 and thus provides an important contribution to difference-theoretical analyses from the perspective of the history of education.
Description: Mit dem ausgehenden 19.

Description: The question of ethics in pedagogical relationships, i.e., what is to be evaluated as right or wrong, appropriate or inappropriate, required or to be omitted, arises again and again at any time. This is currently impressively demonstrated by the ambivalences of the regulation of closeness and distance as well as the intersubjective recognition process, which have become alarmingly visible in the wake of the numerous uncovered cases of forcibly imposed closeness and other forms of violence. The authors shed light on questions of ethics in pedagogical relationships from different disciplines and invite us to reflect and think further.

Description: It is rare for a physician to be disbarred; it is even rarer for the disbarment to have a retroactive effect back to the time of granting. The prerequisite for this effect is that the license to practice medicine should not have been granted in the first place, either because the requirements for the training of the future physician were not met or because character defects (unworthiness, unreliability) prevented the person concerned from working as a physician. Although practically rare, the revocation of a license to practice medicine is of particular academic interest because it ultimately results in the entire medical activity of the person affected being subsequently deprived of its legal basis. Strictly speaking, in consequence, each medical intervention becomes unlawful, thus (under certain circumstances) constituting a bodily injury under criminal law as well as giving rise to liability for damages under civil law. However, neither the criminal nor the civil law consequences of such retroactivity have yet been examined in a scientifically sound manner, even to a rudimentary degree. The present dissertation is intended to close this gap, at least in the area of civil law.

Description: Latin America and the German-speaking countries of Central Europe have for a long time maintained multifaceted and dynamic relations. This close interaction has also had a significant impact on the history and present of institutional Germanic studies in Latin America. There are, however, country-specific differences: while in the case of some locations there is only a rudimentary area of Germanic Studies, in others it is quite broadly established. The main purpose of this volume is to trace the existing diversity. The idea for the publication emerged during the 16th Congress of the Latin American Association of Germanists (ALEG) in Buenos Aires in December 2017. Within the framework of the section "History of Germanic Studies", the need for an anthology with contributions in German became evident, in which the developments and perspectives of Germanic studies in the various Latin American countries and regions are reviewed and discussed. Academics from across Latin America agreed to share insights and findings on the aims and foci of Germanic studies for the book project to be realized. Since the institutional framework of the discipline varies widely in Latin America, the initiators assume a broad concept of Germanic studies that encompasses the teaching and research of literary and cultural studies, as well as linguistic and translation studies, teacher training and the teaching of the German language itself. The anthology combines a total of 22 articles from eleven countries, written by 39 authors, and thus provides a broad and diverse view of the situation of Germanistic studies in Latin America. It includes overviews and analyses from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Colombia, Mexico, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela.

Description: The basement of the façade of the San Rufino at Assisi is part of the newly erected Cathedral, which can be dated between 1140 and about 1240. Its extensive décor shows the self-confidence of its sole initiators, the Canons of the Cathedral. On the one hand the present treatise is addressed at the differentiated planar structuring on behalf of a large-scaled framing with a salient arched corbel course and the debate of its derivation. Thereby the framing of the reliefs next to the main portal on the façade of San Pietro fuori le mura at Spoleto receives specific consideration, also in comparison with the different types of relief-framing of several churches in the southwestern Mediterranean area. On the other hand the diversified decorative repertoire of the façade-basement at Assisi is brought into focus in this treatise. In this context special attention is paid to the so far rudimentarily investigated motives of the presentations, their origin and distribution.

Description: With their analyses, the Berlin historians of education provide for the first time a historiographically well-founded and systematically grounded history of the development and status of scientific pedagogy in the GDR. It is no longer interpreted solely in ideology-political and critical terms as an auxiliary of SED educational policy, but is comprehensively analyzed in its own practice as a system of different forms of knowledge. As a scientific pedagogy, it developed from 1945 to 1989 in the conflictual field between science and politics, pedagogical practice and educational research, central institutions and individual work into a discipline of its own shape, in the process increasingly also according to its self-understanding a researching discipline in a difficult and highly politicized context.

Description: The realization of inclusion in schools makes a significant contribution to the development towards an inclusive society (cf. Lütje-Klose et al. 2018a, p. 9), as social practices are not only reproduced in schools, but also newly produced. These practices are carried on in extra- and postschool fields of action (cf. Sturm 2018b, p. 251; Powell 2016, p. 681; Budde 2012, p. 530ff.). Although the introduction of inclusion confronts the entire multi-level system of schools with the task of critically questioning existing structures, concepts, and practices and working on them in an inclusion-oriented manner (cf. Lindmeier & Lütje-Klose 2019, p. 590), the requirements in the field of action of teachers are becoming more complex. Teachers are not only responsible on the meso and micro level of the school system, but also interactively involved in the (re)production of social practices in the school practice (cf. Sturm 2018, p. 254ff.). It is up to teacher education to prepare student teachers to accept the challenge of school inclusion and to adapt traditional educational structures and contents in an inclusion-oriented way. The dissertation aims at reconstructing the knowledge that students of different teacher training programs have about inclusion-related subjunctive experiences during their studies. For this purpose, group discussions with students of special education and secondary school teaching are analyzed using the documentary method. The reconstructions provide information about how the participating student teachers anticipate and cope with inclusion as a challenge of school practice. Based on the findings, implications for the (re)orientation of educational structures and contents of teacher education are finally presented for discussion.

Description: The assumption social studies and science in primary education to be a key-component in realizing inclusive teaching in primary classrooms for all children but especially for children with emotional and behavioral difficulties in special needs education is fundamental to this work. Nevertheless, there is nearly no research-based evidence on how potentials for inclusion and social learning are used in primary schools or special schools nor is there research on how teaching is planned, realized, and accounted for. This desiderate is addressed in this work. By analyzing and thereby linking the discourses in social studies and science in primary education and special education for children with emotional and behavioral difficulties, principles for education and teaching in both domains are summarized. This is the theoretical foundation of a mixed- methods-study with a two-step-design to explore the teaching practices and teachers’ beliefs of teachers in inclusive primary schools and special schools for children with emotional and behavioral difficulties in North Rhine-Westfalia, Germany. The study is composed of a partly standardized questionnaire survey (n= 80) followed by qualitive interviews with teachers as experts (n = 10). Data is consequently triangulated to explore the structure of teaching practices and possible determinants concerning the teachers, framework conditions and the learning groups. The results indicate that life-world-oriented education, disturbed student-teacher-interactions and professional lesson planning between child, method and teaching materials are important issues for the development of inclusive teaching in social studies and science in primary education. Consequently, the study outlines future fields of research and development derived from an explorative view at teaching practices in inclusive and separative education settings.

Description: This volume documents and reflects on an intercultural and interprofessional exchange about teaching between schools and classroom research. A teacher from Germany opens her classroom to the videographic observations of a Japanese and a German research group. In order to build bridges between the different fields of work related to the same object - the teacher's teaching - the researchers and the teacher open their analytical perspectives of teaching to each other. The volume maps discursive border crossings between an action-oriented didactic, a qualitative-reconstructive and a development-oriented view of the Japanese Jugyo Kenkyu (Lesson Study), in which the different professional cultures meet without intervening transformatively in each other's fields. The different perspectives invite to perceive ideas and concepts of teaching and its research with other than the usual readings and to productively introduce related irritations into the debates about the research and development of teaching.

Description: Homework is set in two locations: On the one hand, homework is a task initiated in class, but on the other hand, it has to be done outside of class. Starting from that, the ethnographic study investigates how this division is reflected in the classroom and how it is negotiated by teachers and students. Homework becomes an occasion for the dissolution of boundaries in the classroom. By requesting to work outside of the classroom, the boundaries between the school and the private field are dissolved. Using a practice-theoretical approach, the study reconstructs how the access of school to the private field takes shape via homework and how students also succeed in counteracting these delimitations. On the basis of the reconstructions, information can be gained about the central importance of homework for school and teaching: The outsourcing of tasks not only relieves the lesson, but at the same time delegates the responsibility for learning to areas outside of school. By proceeding this delegation along classist attributions about the educational orientation of students’ parents, homework proves to be a mechanism of (re)production of inequality.

Description: The research project ""Aptitude and Health in the Study of Education for Learning Disabilities"" (EGIS-L) investigates the question of what aptitude students have for the chosen study programme and how they perceive and cope with the challenges and stresses involved. The research focus is on the areas of personal competence development and self-regulation, as well as health promotion and spirituality. The long-term study will also investigate the extent to which the findings have changed and developed from the beginning of the study programme after the intensive internship year to the end of the study programme. The research results, which were collected and interpreted methodologically in standardised written surveys and qualitative interviews, can provide important information for professionalisation research in the area of the first phase of special needs teacher education. Thus, an innovative contribution is to be made for the development and updating of special needs education study programmes.

Description: On the one hand, expectations of primary school teachers are high. On the other hand, a specific pedagogical professionalism of primary school teachers is doubted again and again. In fact, a compilation of requirements and competences that apply specifically to primary school teachers does not yet exist. While in the discourse on professional theory, challenges for and demands on the professionalism of secondary school teachers seem to be discussed and empirically developed, in the discourse on primary school pedagogy, methodological-didactic questions as well as structural framework conditions come into view, without grasping the consequences for the actions of primary school teachers and framing them in terms of professional theory. The aim of this volume is therefore to link the two discourses more closely and to look at the professionalisation of primary school teachers from different perspectives.

Description: The purchase of additional items in videogames, also called ‘Microtransactions’, has recently grown to become one of the dominating methods of monetization in the games industry. However, many versions of these monetization schemes face severe backlash because it appears that the ways to monetize games are increasingly influencing the contents of the medium and that those games are purposefully designed to bring vulnerable players to spend more money than they meant to. In this thesis, those points of criticism were taken into consideration and as a starting point to explore the legality of these kinds of monetization schemes from a legal standpoint. This was done with regards to the Unfair Competition Law, Youth Protection regulation and general civil law. Also, the chance-based variant of microtransactions, the so called ‘Lootboxes’, have been examined with regard to their legality under gambling regulations.

Description: This volume brings the fields of school, early childhood education and social work into conversation with each other and, on this basis, asks about general structural conditions and characteristics of professionalized practice. This is achieved on the basis of empirical analyses within the theoretical framework of the sociology of practice and knowledge and on the methodological basis of the documentary method. In this way, commonalities between the fields of action can be empirically reconstructed at a high level of generalization and theoretically discussed.

Description: Reflection is a key concept in the German discourse on teacher education. It is connected to the claim that professional educators should be able to adapt their actions according to situational demands and justify their decisions in ways that non-professionals could not. This ideal mirrors the refusal of a teacher education model which is based on the transmission of well-established practical routines. A high-quality reflection is associated with adopting an observer’s point of view, permitting distance from the immediacy of pedagogical practice as well as access to scien- tific knowledge. Empirical studies on reflection situated in pedagogical practice instead suggest that adopting a distanced observer’s point of view is not what pedagogical practitioners do when they reflect on their work. This discrepancy between the ideal and the practical phenomenon can either hint at a shortcoming of the examined practice – or it can draw attention to practical pedagogical reflection as a phenomenon in its own right. The latter could allow for a reading of practical pedagogical reflection beyond a deficit-oriented approach and highlight ethical dimensions of a mode of reflection that is not indifferent to its subject. This study is an attempt at reconceptualising practical pedagogical reflection as a phenomenon worth theorising. The aim of this venture is to develop a concept of reflection that is sensitive to pedagogical practice. The suggested reading intends to pluralise the dominant understanding of reflection and explore context-specific facets of the phenomenon in question.

Description: The expansion of all-day schools should lead, among other things, to a changed teaching and learning culture that promotes motivational-affective competencies in students. But even after 20 years, all-day elementary schools do not seem to fulfill this. Scientific quality criteria are too rarely implemented in elementary schools. The aim of this dissertation was to investigate the effect of an (interlocked) extracurricular science program on elementary school students regarding their motivational-affective characteristics. For this purpose, an (interlocked) offer was implemented in the intervention study, whereby this was linked to physical education in half of the schools. The analysis of the questionnaires of 236 pupils showed that participation in a science offer can be profitable, but that the interlocking is not as highly effective as expected. The study suggests changing the intra-school structure and revising the understanding of interlocking.

Description: The present qualitative interview study has set itself the task of reappraising the developments from the emergence to the official ban of the German-speaking Islamic Circle (DIK) and the associated mosque. In order to approach the question of how it was possible for a radical Islamic mosque to emerge and establish itself in the middle of Hildesheim's Nordstadt, we use the "hotbed" approach1 as a basis for analysis. According to this approach, the geographic distribution of the places of origin of those who left to fight in IS territory is by no means evenly distributed; rather, certain places or neighborhoods stand out in which recurring factors that condition radicalization can be identified. To examine why the now-banned Hildesheim mosque association around the convicted "IS chief recruiter" in Germany, Ahmad A. alias "Abu Walaa," became a hotbed, we conducted a total of nine interviews in the spring and summer of 2021. We spoke with members of the local Muslim community and former visitors of the DIK mosque, non-Muslim persons living in the immediate vicinity of the mosque, as well as with representatives of authorities, institutions and civil society institutions. The empirical material is supplemented by an analysis of Abu Walaa's social media content, in particular his Telegram channels, as well as by recordings of various court hearings of the criminal trial against Abu Walaa that we attended. Description: Throughout the world, ‘3.11’ and ‘Fukushima’ are used as synonyms for catastrophe, despair and insecurity. In a search for sociocultural meaning in the catastrophic events of ‘3.11’, Wiebke Grimmig examines the role of contemporary Japanese artists in the process by which Japanese society has handled the effects of this triple disaster (earthquake, tsunami and atomic disaster) in Fukushima. She focuses on the emotional processing of these events by her respondents, including their biographical background, their economic concerns and the role of contemporary art in Japanese society. This anthropological research involves the analysis of in-depth interviews with contemporary artists from Tokyo, as well as from other locations along the east coast of Japan. This research was conducted over a 12-month period to elucidate the catastrophic events and effects of the ‘3.11’ disaster. In this work, Wiebke Grimmig examines how contemporary Japanese artists portray catastrophic events in terms of emotion, individuality, power, resilience, politics, economics and communication in their biographical narrative and their work. This doctoral thesis provides an important contribution to the socio-scientific field of disaster research.

Description: The present paper analyzes the emergence of the modern artistic field as an indicator for the formation of the modern state. The work traces this development by looking at various fields that build on each other both thematically and chronologically. London, as the center of the British Empire, and Berlin, as the emerging metropolis of Prussia, represent two ideal areas for comparison. On the basis of seven selected formations of practice - the art academies, the artist's journey, the exhibition system, art criticism, private art collections, the emergence of the modern art museum, and the funeral ceremonies of famous artists - a comparative cultural history of the emergence of the figure of the artist and the artistic field is sketched.

Description: "Our Faculty of Theology is really and truly the only Faculty of Theology from which something great and effective in the sense of the new state can be made if the Ministry is determined to rebuild. Dean Emanuel Hirsch to Rector Friedrich Neumann on June 16, 1934On a broad source basis, Hansjörg Buss deals with the theological faculty of the State University of Göttingen in the first half of the 20th century. The significance and influence of the new theological approaches of the interwar period as well as the social and political challenges on institutional action, research, teaching, administration, and journalism are examined, with the situation of the student body also being considered for the first time. It is shown that the faculty at no time found a positive relationship to the Weimar Republic. During the National Socialist dictatorship, the 'church struggle' and ideological competitive pressure from the Nazi state narrowed its scope. Plans to create a German-Christian flagship faculty fell through, hopes and disillusionment, loyalty to the state and opposition to church policy, academic continuity and institutional struggle for existence determined its further path. The collapse of the German Reich in May 1945 ushered in a far greater caesura: The personnel reorganization was connected with a theological reorientation that left a lasting mark on the faculty. The author: Dr. Hansjörg Buss, born in 1971, studied history, political science and law (public law). The present work was made possible by a three-year research fellowship from the Göttingen Faculty of Theology. Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version)

Description: "Lese-Buch - a strange name; what does it mean?" asks Elberfeld seminary teacher Hermann Wendt in 1909 in the "Deutsche Blätter für erziehenden Unterricht. ""A book in which one reads?" But to be read is the purpose of all books! The editors present excerpts from the corpus of sources they used to investigate how knowledge about Turks and Turkey shaped and changed in earlier periods of German history. The book documents views about Turks and Turkey up to the period after World War I - especially on the part of pedagogues and teachers. It invites readers to familiarize themselves with a chapter of the tense but hitherto little-known interweaving of German colonial and educational history.

Description: In the context of testing and examination, the assessment of texts presents a particular challenge. Since textual competence cannot be measured directly, it is assessed indirectly via textuality criteria. In the field of foreign language testing, a target-oriented text production is set as a task; this is also the case in the DSH (Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang = German Language Test for University Entrance). DSH text productions are evaluated by means of an analytical evaluation sheet with textuality criteria and in case of passing the exam reported in three levels: DSH-1, DSH-2 and DSH-3. This paper deals with an investigation conducted on DSH text productions to determine which textuality criteria are characteristic for each DSH.

Description: In recent years, the areas of German as a Foreign Language (GFL) and German as a Second Language (GSL) have taken quite different developmental paths. To unify these contrasts was the purpose of the 46th Annual Convention of the Association for German as a Foreign and a Second Language (FaDaF e.V.) in Chemnitz from 28 to 30 March 2019. The proceedings of this conference comprise contributions from both academic research and practice in the area of teaching German as a Foreign or Second Language as well as the Associations’ resolution concerning the recent German Immigration Act for Skilled Workers. Thematically, the contributions focus on didactics and methodology of German language teaching, transnational networking and the many facets of understanding – from language comprehension to (intercultural) hermeneutics. Opening with contributions from the young academics’ conference held prior to the annual convention, the volume Teaching – Networking – Understanding attempts to unify the many interfaces of research and practice.

Description: Currently, the call for an increase in the 'reflective ability' of teachers in the course of school and lesson development, of students in the course of the expectation of shaping their own learning and educational path, and of student teachers and trainee teachers in the course of their professionalization is getting louder. The resulting current challenges in education were discussed at a conference of the DGfE Section School Education in the fall of 2021 at the University of Osnabrück. This edited volume brings together contributions that emerged from selected symposia and open up diverse perspectives on the paradigm of reflection. In a first part, the theoretical discourses on reflection and reflexivity are deepened. This is followed by essays that focus the perspective on reflection and reflexivity in teacher education and examine the topic in relation to schools and teaching. The series "Studies on Professional Research and Teacher Education" is edited by Manuela Keller-Schneider, Katharina Kunze, Tobias Leonhard and Christian Reintjes.

Description: Since 2019, the Research and Documentation Center for the Analysis of Political and Religious Extremisms in Lower Saxony (FoDEx) has been managing the estate of the right-wing extremist multifunctionalist Hans-Michael Fiedler. The processing and evaluation of the legacy makes it possible to make previously untapped sources accessible to research and the (specialist) public. The indexing of the material opens up new perspectives on a central actor of the radical right in Germany as well as its networks in order to better understand the political structures of right-wing radicalism in the long term. This study presents initial results by first focusing on Fiedler's political biographical development from the perspective of actor-centered right-wing extremism research. Using this radical right actor as an example, it analyzes the genesis of the radical right in southern Lower Saxony from the 1960s to the early 1990s. Description: The thematic anthology is based on the conception of the 'IFO2020' in Vienna – the 34th annual conference of inclusion researchers – and represents the attempt to present in a bundled form the questions and discussions that have begun around this conference, have been further developed, or perhaps even emerged in this context in the first place. In keeping with the theme of the volume, inclusion research itself necessarily becomes the focus of debate when its inherent controversies, perspectives, and developments are discussed. This results, among other things, in references to empirical, theoretical, and paradigmatic orientations of inclusion, interdisciplinary associations, critiques of both pedagogical and (one's own) academic practice, intersectional interweavings, or even voids that remain open to discussion.
Daraus ergeben sich u.a.

Description: Classes with a special emphasis (so-called profile classes) represent a central element of current school development processes and are considered as one of the most prominent ways of practical implementation of school autonomy. At the secondary level, profile classes in music and science (music and STEM classes) are becoming increasingly popular. Specific features of profile classes (including additional lessons, innovative and practice-based teaching and learning formats, and the involvement of student labs) are associated with various pedagogical potentials – especially in terms of fostering students’ interest and their self-concept. However, there is a research gap regarding the development of students’ subject-related interests and their self-concept in profile classes at the secondary level. The findings of the present study indicate differences in the development of the interests in music and science as well as the domain-specific self-concept between music classes, STEM classes and classes without a specific profile. Using cross-lagged-panel-models, the longitudinal relations among interest and self-concept are estimated in addition to the correlations of the constructs within each wave and the autoregressive effects within each construct over time. In this regard, differences in the cross-lagged panel models between profile classes and classes without a specific profile are examined. The results allow an evaluation of the potential of profile classes in order to promote students’ interest and self-concept and offer a variety of implications for pedagogical practice.

Description: In recent decades, historical educational research has developed into a field of research and work that is multifaceted in its topics, methods, and theoretical references and is interdisciplinary. The methods, working techniques, and tools of the digital humanities, which influence many areas of the humanities and cultural studies today, are also already being applied there in a variety of ways. This volume demonstrates this with concrete examples from current research projects and working groups related to historical education research. The contributions give examples of the application of selected digital tools and research methods and put research-practical as well as epistemological questions up for discussion.

Description: Inclusion and digitization are about to decisively change society in several dimensions. This also includes (school) education. However, inclusive and digital education as central tasks of the education system have so far been discussed too rarely in combination. However, digital education is fundamental for enabling social participation and must therefore be a significant component of educational processes. The content of the anthology is based on selected contributions to the online conference ""Inklusion digital! - Opportunities and Challenges of Inclusive Education in the Context of Digitization"". The articles reflect the current discussions in teacher training and continuing education with regard to inclusion and digitization from the perspectives of subject didactics, subject sciences, educational science, and special education.

Description: As part of the information and knowledge society, children and adults are both affected by and involved in the digital transformation. The extent to which information and knowledge can actually be accessed, used and shaped by everyone is a question of educational theory and subject didactics. Pupils, teachers, students and trainee teachers must be supported in opening up the possibilities and limits of the information society, in reflecting on them and in recognising and developing options for action, orientation and skills. In the present volume, subject matter teaching in the information society is examined from the perspectives of subject matter didactic reconstruction, media education and informatics education; the question of appropriate locations, media and technologies is also addressed, as are projects in university teacher training and perspective-related approaches. (DIPF/Orig.)
Description: It is common practice for patients in a hospital to be treated by the on-duty physician. If patients want to be treated by a certain physician, then they are subject to additional charges. This is referred to as ‘chief physician treatment’ because it is often chief physicians who are selected to carry out treatment. Commonly, chief physicians are considered to be particularly experienced and competent. But even if a chief physician treatment is contractually agreed with the patient, in many cases it is not the chief physicians who provide the individual treatment services. Sometimes they do not even participate in the treatment at all but nevertheless all the services are billed as chief physician treatment. Whether and the extent to which the law allows this kind of practice, is the subject of this dissertation.

Description: The case studies are a systematizing comparative study of historical video recordings of political education in East, West, and all of Berlin from the period 1978 to 1993. Using ethnomethodological reconstructions, the conceptions and teaching practices within the various political contexts are analyzed and case-specific logics and cross-case contexts are discussed. The study follows the guiding intention of a more precise determination of possibilities and limits of political education and upbringing in subject teaching with a view to selected, also normative, points of reference. In the sense of a historical source critique, the specific visual stagings of pedagogical practice are also analyzed and discussed in the context of their origins and uses.

Description: The anthology brings together interdisciplinary theoretical and empirical findings on disAbility and migration in educational contexts as well as analyses of the intersectionality of disability, migration and religion in education and society. It strives to interconnect the concerns of migration education, disability studies, and religious education. In doing so, theorizations about narratives of belonging in the migration society as well as possibilities of participation in medical-therapeutic and pedagogical fields of action are carried out. In addition, questions are asked about the necessary competencies of pedagogically active persons. Special attention is paid to research contexts that focus on the perspectives of children and adolescents with disabilities and their parents.

Description: Transformation, in contrast to "change," represents a move away from merely optimizing existing structures. Rather, it is about thinking about and shaping inclusive and sustainable communities as projects for the future. Although organizations play a decisive role in structuring and standardizing people's lives and thus also have a decisive impact on their opportunities for participation, research on inclusion has so far only touched on questions of the mutual influence of inclusion and organization. This anthology opens up theoretical perspectives on questions of how inclusion is handled and processed, and provides insight into practical examples of "making organizations different". In doing so, this book uses the model of the Three Horizons to show that people are capable of developing an awareness of the future and are thus fundamentally capable of changing patterns.

Description: Cord Borgentrik (about 1430-1501) was a quite successful image carver with an own large studio in Braunschweig in the second half of the 15th century. Traces of his activity which show the influence of Dutch realism are to be found in the region of Braunschweig, in Westphalia, in the region around Goettingen, Gandersheim, and in Halle. The study discusses two of his major altarpieces that have survived. It focusses on how iconography and spiritual message of the works are dependent on the ideas of Borgentrik´s monastic commissioners. The Mary Retable of the parish church of Hemmerde in Westphalia which was completed in 1483 and even signed by Borgentrik (now in the Städtische Museum Braunschweig) was commissioned by the Premonstratensian monks of the monastery of Scheda, whereas the Mary Retable of St. Nicolai church in Alfeld (Lower Saxony), which long can be found in the Minoritenkirche Cologne, was commissioned by the Cistercian monks of Marienrode. In both cases Mary is shown as Regina Coeli in the way the Byzantine Hodegetria is represented. The study analyzes the Christological and Mariological presuppositions that underlie the iconography of both retables.

Description: The dissertation analyzes the German and European legal situation and the development of case law on the subject of transgender identity in the system of fundamental and human rights. The work focuses primarily on the case law of the Federal Constitutional Court and the European Court of Human Rights, but also takes a comparative legal approach and deals with the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union. Both the Federal Constitutional Court and the European Court of Human Rights provided important stimulus for legal reforms. The major legal issues examined in the work include the prerequisites for the change of legal gender, the change of first name, the legal consequences of a gender change for the continued existence of a marriage and the recognition of transsexual men and women as fathers or mothers, as well as the legal requirements for the assumption of costs for gender reassignment surgeries.

Description: When looking at the process of extending the practical phases within teachers’ training, the question of its impact on students’ professionalisation becomes increasingly important. The given study distances itself from normative positions promoting an unquestioned positive effect of these practical experiences. Instead, the focus will be on the question if or to what extent practical experiences lead to a process of professionalization for future teachers. In order to tackle this question, narrative interviews have been conducted with students in teachers training who have signed in for a so-called “Studien-Praxis-Projekt”, wherein these students cooperate with teachers working on a specific problem regarding school and lesson planning development. The interviews, which have been analysed using the documentary method, provide new insights into two different areas, the student’s habitus – as a transitional phase between the pupil’s and the teacher’s habitus – and specific developmental tasks of students in teachers training. Furthermore, the results illustrate a correlation between a specific student habitus on the one hand and the way students deal with developmental tasks on the other hand. Not only can we draw conclusions about the different types of professionalisation from these data, but also it is possible to deduce the potential of professionalization for these different types. In conclusion, one can define subject-based competence as the centre of, reflection as the means and a so-called ‘in between’ as the place of students’ professionalisation.

Description: Processes of individualization in Egypt, Iran, Lebanon, Senegal and Tunisia are central to current social dynamics and form the key theme of the present volume. The central question is how social transformations inform the field of the religious and how processes of religious change likewise have an impact on social change. The contributions in this volume focus in particular on the realities of life for women from urban middle-class milieus. They show how women’s efforts to shape one's individual life may run counter to established social and religious norms. While analyzing milieu-specific dynamics, particular attention is devoted to the question how processes of social and religious change become manifest in both gender and generational relations. Western ideals of modernity, globalized discourses and respective leisure/fashion-practices as well as expressions of individualized lifestyles have an impact on dynamics of social and religious change and are discussed in this volume in specific religious as well as non-religious social contexts.

Description: Although the school class is highly relevant for the school organization of instruction, it is predominantly addressed in empirical school research as an explanandum. The sociality of the school class, on the other hand, has hardly been focused on as an empirical object of research. The aim of this paper is to address this desideratum by considering the school class as an object that is constituted in a variety of ways in different discourses. It also asks how classroom teachers construct the school class in everyday-based discourse and relate themselves to it. Different types of data are used to examine how which normative conceptions of school classes are produced in educational, programmatic, and everyday-based discourse. Contributions in scholarly and contemporary practice-instructional literature, as well as specially collected interviews with classroom teachers in secondary schools, serve as data materials. The interviews, as well as the idea for this study, were developed within the framework of the project on making school classes at the Department of Empirical Research on Teaching and School Development at the Institute of Educational Science at the University of Göttingen. Description: It is predicted that church membership in the Protestant church in Germany will be cut in half by 2060. Church tax liability plays a central role in church resignations. Therefore, reform proposals of the church tax law are discussed to prevent church resignations, such as the exemption of young professionals from church tax liability. However, the right to tax is not a purely ecclesiastical matter but has implications for the state sector. Therefore, the collection of church taxes entails framework conditions imposed by the Constitution, which limits the church's freedom of organization. This thesis examines the reform proposals of church tax law regarding their legal feasibility and, in doing so, sheds light on the limits of the tax autonomy of religious communities. Central questions are: How flexible is the taxation right of religious communities? What is the church allowed to do? And what can it implement?
