    Description: Das niedersächsische Nordhorn war historisch lange eine Hochburg der Kommunistischen Partei Deutschlands (KPD) sowie später der Deutschen Kommunistischen Partei (DKP), bis in die 1990er-Jahre hinein konnten sie hier lokalpolitische Ämter erringen. Von welchen Kontextbedingungen hing der lokale Erfolg der Nordhorner DKP ab? Wie fügte sich die Partei historisch in die Protestgeschichte ein und welches sind die zentralen Charakteristika der örtlichen gegenkulturellen Szene? Diesen Fragen geht die vorliegende FoDEx-Studie nach. Sie skizziert die zentralen Charakteristika und langfristigen Entwicklungstendenzen der linksradikalen bzw. linken Szene vor Ort und setzt diese in Bezug zum stadtpolitischen Erbe der Textilindustrie Nordhorns und der andauernden materialistischen Konfliktlinie. In einer mehrschrittigen Analyse werden wichtige Resonanz- und Verständigungsräume ebenso beleuchtet wie das individuelle Akteurshandeln vor Ort.

This work shows the technical feasibility of such a system by presenting a rideable prototype. Ventile dienen dazu den Fluidstrom in komplexen mikrofluidischen Systemen, aus Einsatzgebieten wie der Biologie, Chemie oder Biotechnologie, zu manipulieren. Mit steigender Komplexität der Mikrosysteme steigt auch die Anzahl der benötigten, individuell steuerbaren Mikroventile.

An analysis of the overall system with respect to the exploitable degrees of freedom for wheel torque control reveals that several possible solutions for distributing wheel torque exist in certain driving situations.     Description: This book examines the Vehicle-Routing-Problem with split-deliveries and alternative delivery periods (SDVRPA). It is solved with a Branch-and-Price-Algorithm. When alternative delivery periods and split-deliveries are employed, freight forwarders get a wider scope for planning and can therefore plan more efficient routes. Even with few alternative delivery periods, which allow vehicles to be used more efficiently, substantial savings can be achieved.

    Description: New methods to generate and analyze motions of humanoid robots are presented and applied to a demonstrator. Reflexes of humans and neural central pattern generators (CPGs) were used as archetype. With leaky Integrate-and-Fire neurons a generic reflex template was designed and put to work for several specialized reflexes. The designed CPGs were used to analyze robotik motion as well as for generation of locomotion patterns on a biped demonstrator.

    Description: What is there left to say about the human condition after the so-called „end of anthropology“? Never before have conceptions of what it means to be a human being been as diverse and fragmented as in the late modern age – with severe consequences for democratic discourse and liberal, „Western“ societies as a whole. Examining the work of American theologian Reinhold Niebuhr (1892–1971), the book presents new insights into the intersection of anthropological thought and ethical orientation. Niebuhr, motivated by his perception of profound political and social crises in „Western“ societies, develops an innovative, pragmatic and „realistic“ type of theological anthropology. His anthropological approach functions as the basis of a much larger endeavor: rescuing Christianity and democracy itself. Reading Niebuhr today opens up a refreshing perspective on current debates on public theology and the so-called „crisis of democracy“. In this context, the book argues, theological anthropology can be reclaimed as an essential social resource: It offers a comprehensive understanding of human nature both at its best and at its worst, providing the indispensable basis for the survival and vitality of democracy.
    Description: Was lässt sich nach dem vielbeschworenen „Ende der Anthropologie“ noch vom Menschsein sagen? Wie lässt sich angesichts der zunehmenden anthropologischen Sprachlosigkeit noch ethische Orientierung gewinnen? Welche Folgen hat die Fragmentierung von Menschenbildern für den demokratischen Diskurs? Dieses Problemfeld bearbeitet die Autorin unter Rückgriff auf das Denken des hierzulande wenig bekannten US-amerikanischen Theologen Reinhold Niebuhr (1892–1971). Auf breiter Quellenbasis werden Genese, Funktion und Profil seiner theologischen Anthropologie herausgearbeitet, die sich als pragmatisch orientiertes, zentral um die Sündenlehre kreisendes Denkmodell präsentiert. Die Wahrnehmung tiefgreifender politischer und sozialer Krisen regt Niebuhr dazu an, die Anthropologie zum Fundament eines großangelegten gesellschaftlichen Rettungsprogramms auszubauen. Aus der einsichtsvollen historischen wie theologischen Aufarbeitung des Niebuhrschen Werkes leitet die Autorin gewichtige Impulse für die Debatten der Gegenwart ab. Sie zeigt auf, wie eine „realistische“ Anthropologie im Sinne Niebuhrs nicht nur einen innovativen Ansatz einer public theology begründet, sondern darüber hinaus als „soziale Ressource“ in der Debatte um die „Krise der Demokratie“ neue Wege aufzuzeigen vermag.

Therefore tensile tests for the description of the bonding behavior of the fibers, shear tests on three-stone small specimen, small static cyclic shear wall tests, bending tests of wall segments, large format dynamically loaded wall plates and five building experiments were performed under realistic time history acceleration. At the end a calculation method is proposed.

    Description: Verbrennungsprozesse sind meist mit der Emission von Schadstoffen verbunden, weshalb sie möglichst schadstoffarm und energieeffizient geführt werden müssen.Bei den bislang dominierenden primären Brennstoffen sind aufgrund der gleichbleibenden Brennstoffeigenschaften langfristig optimierte Technologien und feste Regelungen einsetzbar. Zunehmend werden jedoch sekundäre Brennstoffe wie Prozessabgase oder Biomasse genutzt. Sie haben stark veränderliche chemisch-physikalische Eigenschaften und bewirken so einen veränderlichen Verbrennungsablauf der schwierig beherrschbar ist. Eine optimale Verbrennung lässt sich dann nur durch eine an den Verbrennungszustand und die Brennstoffe adaptierte modellbasierte Prozessregelung erreichen, die noch nicht Stand der Technik ist.Die Arbeit widmet sich im ersten Schwerpunkt dem modellbasierten Reglungsentwurf. Die theoretische Modellierung und der modellbasierte Entwurf adaptiver Regelungen für die Temperatur und die Sauerstoffkonzentration im Abgas wird am Beispiel einer halbtechnischen Brennkammer für veränderliche Brenngase analysiert. Berücksichtigt wird dabei das für Verbrennungen typische vorhaltbehaftete Regelstreckenverhalten.Der zweite Schwerpunkt bildet die online Messung und die rechnerba-sierte Auswertung von Zustandsgrößen am Beispiel der infrarotbasierten Temperaturmessung bei einem Feststoffbrennbett. Es werden neue Auswerteverfahren entwickelt, die sich u.a. auch bei der Regelung industrieller Verbrennungen bewährt haben.

    Description: What are the effects of internal migration controls on migrants without a regular residence permit – on “sans papiers”? The book gives an answer to this question with a comparative study of the United States and Germany. Based on expert interviews and in-depth interviews with forty sans papiers, police controls as well as controls in areas such as labor market, health care, housing, schooling and childcare are carefully analysed. The book discusses whether global economic, political or social processes have restricted the ability of advanced capitalist countries to control migration. It argues that migration policy in the OECD countries has become more similar, but this convergence only takes place at the level of policy goals and legal norms. At the level of implementation, national differences persist. The interviews show that sans papiers in the U.S. continue to have many possibilities to participate in society. In contrast, the comprehensive exclusion of sans papiers in Germany confi rms that there is no general “loss of control”.
    Description: Welche Auswirkungen haben interne Migrationskontrollen auf Migrantinnen und Migranten ohne regulären Aufenthaltsstatus - auf »Sans Papiers«? Dieser Frage geht das Buch mit einem Vergleich zwischen den Vereinigten Staaten und Deutschland nach. Anhand von Expertengesprächen und vierzig qualitativen Interviews mit Sans Papiers werden polizeiliche Kontrollen und Kontrollen in den Bereichen Arbeitsmarkt, Gesundheitsversorgung, Wohnen sowie Schule und Kinderbetreuung eingehend untersucht. Das Buch diskutiert, ob globale ökonomische, politische und soziale Prozesse die Fähigkeit von Nationalstaaten einschränken, Migration zu kontrollieren. Es wird gezeigt, dass sich die Migrationspolitik der OECDStaaten in den vergangenen Jahren zwar auf der Ebene der Leitlinien und Gesetze angeglichen hat. Bei der Implementation von Kontrollen bestehen aber nationale Unterschiede fort. Die Interviews belegen, dass Sans Papiers in den USA weiterhin vielfältige Möglichkeiten zur gesellschaftlichen Partizipation haben. Im Gegenzug zeigt das Beispiel Deutschland, dass angesichts der weitgehenden Exklusion von Sans Papiers keine Rede von einem »Kontrollverlust« sein kann.

Simulations based on models describing cardiac electro-mechanics can acquire insights into this behavior. This work focuses on the mathematical reconstruction of electrophysiology, excitation conduction, and tension development in the human heart on the cellular and the tissue level. The tissue models represent accurate anatomical shapes of the atria and the ventricles and incorporate electrophysiological heterogeneity and anisotropic conduction. The simulations comprehend the physiological behavior of the ventricles and of the atrium including the sinoatrial node as well as pathological cases like ventricular and atrial fibrillation and genetic defects in ionic channels.

    Description: The term childbed presents is understood to mean gifts that were presented to the mothers of new-born babies in childbed. Presents for the new mother given for example during visits by relatives, friends and neighbours, initially consisted of food and drink. Later they could also include applied art objects. The custom of presenting childbed presents has a long tradition and still partially continues until today. In the present study, applied art objects which can be identified as childbed presents are analyzed and discussed in relation to their art historical development from the early modern period to the early 19th century. In regard to their cultural and historical context, questions about the form, content and function of these gifts will be investigated. In doing so a special field of early modern art and culture becomes accessible for the first time.

    Description: This work presents investigates the feasibility of the ""directly steered wheels (DSW)"" under operating condition of tramcars. After analyzing the wheel/rail geometric contact between track and DSW, a mathematical model has been developed to describe the lateral dynamics. Based on this model, a robust guidance controller is designed according to the µ-synthesis. The results of simulations show that the DSW with the designed controller can improve the running performance of tramcars significantly.

    Description: This work systematically describes the mechanisms of tyre/road noise atdriving and braking torque based on measurements with different tyres. The studies on the influence of circumferential force on tyre/road noise can be divided into two different tire tread designs. One sub-chapter reports about a selective influence of force induced tyre/road noise using inclined groove edges. The influence of the circumferential stiffness of the tread blocks on the tyre/road noise is discussed afterwards.

    Description: Electricity generation from renewable sources of energy has had a long history in Germany and is highly topical. This paper deals with both aspects. A sociological analysis of technology shows how innovative technologies gradually emerged from the Utopian vision of 'velvet' energies, which became the basis of the rapidly growing regenerative electricity production. The second aspect of the paper is an analysis of the growing potential - as well as possible obstacles - of regenerative energies. The expansion of energy production from renewable sources and the tendency towards the concentration of such installations (e.g. large wind farms or solar parks) is increasingly met with opposition from the public. In addition, it is felt that considerable changes in the energy sector can only be successful if its promoters become more active.

    Description: Amorphes Siliciumdioxid findet als Füllstoff verbreitet Anwendung. Es wird u.a. durch die Vermischung einer Silikatlösung mit einer Säure hergestellt. Dabei entsteht intermediär ein Gel. Mit dieser Arbeit wird ein Beitrag zur Steuerung der Eigenschaften des Produktpulvers geleistet. Es wird eine Formel vorgestellt, mit der die Gelierzeit aus den Konzentrationen der Einsatzstoffe abgeschätzt werden kann. Für die Fragmentierung des Gels werden Parallelen zum Aufbruch hochviskoser Tropfen gezeigt.

    Description: The liberal professions are subject to an ever changing legal basis and thus constantly undergo minor or major amendments. A fundamental innovation in the current law governing the liberal professions of tax consultants is the authorization to work as in-house tax consultants. Since 2008, the Tax Consultancy Act has made possible to pursue the profession of in-house tax advisor, while lawyers were allowed to work in-house for decades already, with the last amendment of the legal regulations from 2016. This paper deals with the various legal and practical implications of the interactions between the freelance activity as a tax consultant and the activity of in-house tax consultants in an employment relationship. A detailed comparison of the legal basis for tax consultants with that of in-house lawyers is of special interest in light of the current ambiguous legal situation. Special focus is a thorough analysis of the legal question whether or not an in-house tax adviser can be exempted from the obligatory pension insurance.

    Description: In this cultural anthropological examination Frauke Johanna Ahrens enquires into the scientific significance of the herbarium sheets of the Herbarium Göttingen in the period from 1832 to 1852. Based on a historical, object-focused ethnography and praxeology she itemizes how during the establishing phase of the collection institutionalized in 1832 the scientific practices and epistemic interests mutually influenced one another and found expression in the botanical specimens themselves. Each of the five chapters is dedicated to one practice – opening up the collection, ascribing values, acquiring plant material, doing research on herbarium sheets and teaching with herbarium sheets. Together with detailed object descriptions, the analysis emphasizes the materiality of knowledge in this way.

    Description: In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird ein internetbasiertes Fachinformationssystem zur Detektion krustaler Deformationen in den Ostkarpaten vorgestellt, welches im Rahmen des Sonderforschungsbereichs 461 Starkbeben: von wissenschaftlichen Grundlagen zu Ingenieurmaßnahmen entwickelt wurde.Im Vordergrund stehen die Konzeption und Implementierung eines Fachinformationssystems für regionale beziehungsweise globale GPS-Projekte, die zur Aufdeckung von Plattengrenzen und Analyse von Plattenbewegungen eingerichtet wird.

Despite important developments both in receiver and processing technology, site dependent errors, like multipath effects or residual errors in the calibration values of the receiving GNSS antenna, are still a major error source in highly precise GNSS positioning. The method used in this work is based on stacking of observation residuals and therefore able to reduce these error sources effectively.

Durch die Einhaltung von Mindestabständen und Mindestholzdicken soll hierbei ein Versagen des Holzes durch Aufspalten verhindert werden. Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit wurde ein Verfahren entwickelt, mit dem sich die Anforderungen an Abständen und Holzdicken effizienter und zuverlässiger als bisher bestimmen lassen.

    Description: Within the bioliq®-process, the organic phase of straw pyrolysis condensates can be gasified directly, while the aqueous phase can be mixed with char to form a slurry, which also can be gasified. For production and storage, several mixers and stirrers are examined. Grinding the porous and elongated char particles decelerates sedimentation and also reduces the viscosity. Thus, higher concentrated slurries can be mixed, which leads to higher stability.

    Description: This study reveals that in medieval Dutch vernacular texts (from the Brabantine authors Jan van Boendale, Lodewijk van Velthem, and Jan van Leeuwen, and in the anonymous Boek van Sidrac) the treatment of individual and universal eschatological topics and themes, such as death, heaven, hell, purgatory, the Antichrist, eschatological people, and Judgement Day is dedicated to moral and ethical guidance to prepare oneself during lifetime for the afterlife. Central to all texts is the fate of the souls in the afterlife and guidelines to assure redemption on Judgment Day. This includes the ability to recognize the signs of the End properly. The vernacular eschatological discourse is considered as an inherent part of the intellectual emancipation of the laity in the later Middle Ages. This book is of interest not only to Dutch and German philologists, but also to historians and anyone interested in the history of religion, especially of eschatology and apocalypticism. This study was awarded with the 2013 Mgr. C. de Clercqprijs of the Koninklijke Vlaamse Academie van België voor Wetenschappen en Kunsten (Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium for Science and the Arts) for an outstanding work in the field 'History of Religions of Flanders'.

Diese Risiken und die Gewissheit, dass Rumänien und seine Städte wieder von einem Starkbeben betroffen werden, bildeten die Motivation der Arbeit, erkennend, dass Schadensminderung mit moderner Wissenschaft und Technik sowie mit konsequenter Implementierung des Wissens möglich und aussichtsreich ist.

    Description: Durch den Einsatz von Hochtemperatursupraleitern (HTSL) können Verluste, Volumen und Gewicht von Transformatoren reduziert werden, zudem werden diese aktiv Fehlerstrom begrenzend. In dieser Arbeit wurde die Rückkühlung von YBCO-Bandleitern nach einer Strombegrenzung untersucht. Weiterhin wurde ein Entwurfsgang für HTSL-Transformatoren erstellt und ein 60 kVA-Transformator entworfen und getestet. Darüber hinaus wurde eine Fallstudie zur Energieeinsparung durch HTSL-Transformatoren erstellt.

    Description: Mit Schmerzen der unterschiedlichsten Art ist jeder Mensch mehr oder minder vertraut. Sie zumindest gelegentlich zu empfinden, ist offenbar eine Bedingung menschlicher Existenz. Diese Arbeit beleuchtet den Schmerz nicht nur als ein medizinisches, sondern auch als ein kulturelles Phänomen. Sie knüpft an die Aufsätze und Vorträge Viktor von Weizsäckers an, der dieses Phänomen in seiner medizinischen Anthropologie zu erhellen unternommen hat. Im Vordergrund stehen Weizsäckers Stücke einer medizinischen Anthropologie. Die Entwicklung des Weizsäckerschen Schmerzkonzepts in den Aufsätzen „Die Schmerzen“ (1926), „Zur Klinik der Schmerzen“ (1936) und „Das Mißliche am Schmerz“ (1951) wurden als Teil dieser Arbeit bereits im Balint Journal (Balint 2014; 15(03): 63-72) veröffentlicht. Zentraler Gegenstand der vorliegenden Untersuchung ist die aktuelle Bedeutung, die dem Schmerzbegriff in Viktor von Weizsäckers medizinischer Anthropologie vor dem Hintergrund des heutigen Forschungsstandes noch gegeben werden kann. Dabei wird auch die Frage nach den Grenzen des Konzeptes der medizinischen Anthropologie und ihrer „biographischen Methode“ aufgeworfen.

Based on these results, a concept of a mechanical adaption of the oscillating disc cutting process to an excavator attachment tool will be developed and tested on a prototype.

Des Weiteren werden untersucht: „Technik und ihre Auswirkungen auf globale und lokale Arbeitsstrukturen“, „Verantwortungskonflikte in der Ingenieurarbeit“, verschiedene Arten von Katastrophen, der „(Nicht-)Umgang mit Technikfolgen in Russland“, „Nanotechnologie“ und „Autonome Systeme“. Mit den Möglichkeiten der Klimabeeinflussung befassen sich weitere Beiträge. Neu eingeführte Techniken sind Thema von „Körperscanner“ und „Serviceroboter in medizinischen Anwendungen“. Ethische und rechtliche Fragen im Arbeitsleben - insbesondere beim Whistleblowing - schließenden Band ab.     Description: The risk estimation of precipitation events with high recurrence periods is difficult due to the limited time scale with meteorological observations. A homogenous distribution of rain gauges, especially in mountainous terrain, is also hardly convertible. In this study an analytical model with a high spatial resolution, designed for stochastic simulations of flood-related precipitation, is developed, evaluated and applied to different investigation areas in Germany.

    Description: Although the discussion of the ethical, legal and medical problems of (late) abortion, prenatal diagnosis and embryopathic findings continues since the reform of the Pregnant Women and Family Welfare Amendment Act of 1995 and the related elimination of embryopathic indication for almost fifteen years, convincing solutions are still missing. This volume contains the contributions of the 3rd Workshop on Medical Law conducted on February 26 2008. They remind of the urgent need for reform and offer suggestions for the legal policy debate. In the focus of the contributions stand the (criminal) legal and medico-ethical "evaluation" of human life before birth and the question of how the involved professionals can handle their responsibility with the issue of a embryopathic findings, to ensure that the pregnant patient receives help and support during her emotionally stressful decision-making process, but also consider the right to life of the unborn child (especially in cases of extra-uterine viable).
    Description: Obwohl die Diskussion um die ethischen, rechtlichen und medizinischen Probleme des Schwangerschafts(spät)abbruchs nach Pränataldiagnostik und embryopathischem Befund seit der Reform durch das Schwangeren- und Familienhilfeänderungsgesetz von 1995 und der damit verbundenen Abschaffung der embryopathischen Indikation seit bald fünfzehn Jahren geführt wird, fehlen noch immer überzeugende Lösungskonzepte. Die in diesem Band enthaltenen Beiträge des am 26. Februar 2008 veranstalteten 3. Göttinger Workshops zum Medizinrecht mahnen den dringenden Reformbedarf an und bieten Anregungen für die rechtspolitische Diskussion, die vor Kurzem mit einem Gesetzesentwurf aus den Reihen der CDU/CSU-Fraktion zur Änderung des Schwangerschaftskonfliktgesetzes erneut in Gang gesetzt wurde. Im Mittelpunkt der Beiträge stehen die (straf-)rechtliche und medizin-ethische „Bewertung“ menschlichen Lebens vor der Geburt und die Frage, wie die beteiligten Professionen mit der Problematik eines embryopathischen Befundes verantwortlich umgehen können, damit die schwangere Patientin beim emotional belastenden Entscheidungsprozess die notwendige Hilfe und Unterstützung erhält, gleichzeitig aber auch dem Lebensrecht des ungeborenen Kindes (insbesondere in Fällen extrauteriner Lebensfähigkeit) angemessen Rechnung getragen werden kann.

    Description: This dissertation examines intelligence surveillance of private telecommunications and its compatibility with the international human right to privacy in Art. 17 ICCPR and in Art. 8 ECHR. These articles provide comprehensive protection against the most modern forms of surveillance including bulk interception. Several criteria apply in terms of the foreseeability of the surveillance laws. Telecommunication’s interception should be subject to authorisation and supervision by independent authorities and effective remedies should be available. Moreover, the study analyzes the extent to which the surveilling state and the state of residence violate their human rights obligations in cases of cross-border surveillance. The main question is whether the established definitions of "jurisdiction" are applicable to this extraterritorial scenario. The extraterritorial exercise of jurisdiction can also be based on effective control over specific objects relevant to human rights. According to this approach, telecommunications data are objects relevant to individual’s right to correspondence and data protection.

    Description: The focus of this work is on the modelling of the degradation behaviour of conventional lithium-ion cells with graphite/NMC electrodes in conjunction with electrolytes based on LiPF6 in organic solvents. The potential for improvements of parameterization methods dealing with physical-chemical aging effects and simulation studies for optimization of the battery lifetime is shown. In the process of model parameterization mostly data-based as well as non-invasive analysis methods are used.
