    Description: Die Bodenreform in der SBZ löste eine nie dagewesene Siedlungsbewegung aus. Eine solche hatte es in Deutschland noch nie gegeben; es wird sie nie wieder geben. Aus Gutsländereien mussten 5-ha-Höfe geschnitten, den Neubauern Haus und Hof gebaut und alles in eine sinnvolle Ordnung des ländlichen Raumes gebracht werden. Wolfgang Blöß behandelt mit der Siedlungsplanung die Schnittstelle zwischen Landaufteilung und Neubauern-Bauprogramm und stellt diese in den historischen Kontext. Er arbeitet den Aufbau der dafür erforderlichen Verwaltungsorganisation im Spannungsverhältnis zwischen Zentrale und Gliedern der SBZ sowie zwischen deutschen und Besatzungsbehörden ebenso heraus wie Diskussion und Erlass der erforderlichen Richtlinien und Weisungen. Diese wurden vom Umgang mit den Gutsanlagen und der Konzeption des geschlossenen Dorfes bestimmt. Im Fokus steht auch die Arbeit der Planer und Architekten, die sich schwierigsten Bedingungen und einem unerbittlichen Zeitdruck zu stellen hatten. Ihr Arbeitsergebnis, den Dorfbebauungsplan, stellt Blöß vor und führt die in diesem Zusammenhang sicht- und erlebbare, von Widersprüchen geprägte soziale Lage im Dorf vor Augen.     Description: Lange Zeit blieb Arnswalde im Zweiten Weltkrieg von militärischen Auseinandersetzungen verschont. Erst Anfang Februar 1945 belagerten sowjetische Truppen die Stadt. Tausende Bewohner konnten nicht mehr rechtzeitig fliehen und wurden in Arnswalde eingeschlossen. Zwei Wochen lang bangten sie um ihr Leben; bis die deutsche Wehrmacht sie schließlich vom Feind unbemerkt aus der Stadt schleusen konnte. In dieser Quellenedition kommen neben Autoritätspersonen vor allem einfache Bürger zu Wort; die eindrucksvoll von ihrer Flucht aus der eingeschlossenen Stadt berichten; von ihrer Rückkehr in die Heimat; ihrer späteren Vertreibung und von den Schwierigkeiten beim Neuanfang westlich der Oder in einer Gesellschaft; die sie nicht wollte. „Man bleibt eben immer ‚der Flüchtling‘; etwas bemitleidet; geduldet; manchem allein schon durch seinen Anblick lästig; da er nur zu sehr an die Vergänglichkeit irdischen Besitzes erinnert“; schrieb der Arnswalder Lehrer Werner Riepe 1946 an seine Lebensgefährtin. Seine Einschätzung scheint angesichts heutiger politischer und gesellschaftlicher Entwicklungen immer noch erschreckend aktuell zu sein.

    Description: Was wäre Brandenburg ohne seine vielen Einwanderer? Ohne die Hugenotten, ohne die Böhmen – und die Schweizer!? Die Zuwanderung von Schweizer Kolonisten nach Brandenburg hat die Migrationsforschung bisher nur marginal wahrgenommen. Der „Große Kurfürst“ Friedrich Wilhelm hatte sich, nachdem es in der Schweiz Ende des 17. Jahrhunderts zu enormen sozialen Spannungen gekommen war, 1683 an den Bürgermeister und den Rat der Stadt Bern gewandt: Er bat um Überlassung von „Zehen oder Zwantzig Familien“, „welche der Wirthschafft und Viehzucht wohl erfahren seyn“. Die Folgenbewältigung des 30-jährigen Krieges, der die Kurmark vielerorts entvölkert hatte, war für ihn oberstes Staatsziel. Unter den nachgeborenen Schweizer Söhnen fanden sich viele Einwanderwillige, sodass eine Auswahl unter ihnen nötig wurde, „denn es ginge um die Ehre der Schweizerischen Nation.“ Auch heute noch kann man den Stolz dieser kleinen Einwanderungsgruppe in Nattwerder erleben. Dietmar Bleyl untersucht ihr Schicksal sowohl unter dem wirtschaftlichen Aspekt (bis ins 19. Jahrhundert) als auch unter dem konfessionellen Aspekt (bis 1949) und schließt damit eine Lücke in der bisherigen Forschung.

Landeskundliche und stadttopographische Kapitel schildern die Uckermark und den Platz der Stadt Prenzlau in dieser Landschaft, ihre Gründung, innere Gliederung, territoriale Zugehörigkeit sowie Kämpfe um die Stadt und ihre Rechtssituation. Für diese Chronik, die hier erstmals vollständig nach den Originalhandschriften erscheint, nutzte Süring ausgiebig Quellen des Prenzlauer Ratsarchivs, die teilweise heute nicht mehr erhalten sind. So kommt seinem Manuskript besonders für die Zeit seit dem 14. Jahrhundert ein erheblicher Quellenwert zu.

Der Autor verweist im notwendigen Maß auch auf das Geschehen in den übrigen Ländern der Böhmischen Krone und erfasst die Veränderung in den Kompetenzen der Landvögte sowie die Funktion und personelle Besetzung ihres Amtsapparates. Mit dieser breiten Fragestellung und dem großen Umfang der ausgewerteten Quellen unterscheidet sich diese historische Darstellung grundlegend von anderen Abhandlungen, die bisher zum Thema verfasst worden sind.

Flüchtlingstrecks waren über das Land gezogen und oft dort geblieben, wo sich gerade Obdach bot. Staatliche und kommunale Verwaltung existierte nicht mehr, ihre Träger waren geflohen oder festgesetzt. Die Chance, an Strukturen und Erfahrungen aus der Weimarer Republik anknüpfen zu können, war gering, zu groß der gesellschaftliche Umbruch in der SBZ. Trotzdem musste der Neuaufbau von einer kritischen Prüfung der über Jahrhunderte gewachsenen administrativ-territorialen Ordnung ausgehen. Wolfgang Blöß greift in seiner Analyse Fragen von Grenzverständnis, Grenzverlauf und Grenzänderung auf und untersucht die Problemstellung und Ergebnisse des Prozesses, aus dem die inneren Grenzen Brandenburgs nach 1945 hervorgingen, ehe das Land sich in einen neuen Staat fügte, wie es ihn zuvor noch nie gegeben hatte.

Die Altmark bewahrte aber vielerlei historische Wurzeln, bis zur Reformationszeit ihre Zugehörigkeit zu den sächsischen Bistümern Halberstadt und Verden, die enge Verflechtung der acht Immediatstädte mit Hansestädten, soziokulturelle Eigentümlichkeiten u.a.m., und auch in der Frühneuzeit, die den zeitlichen Schwerpunkt des Buches bildet, vielerlei Bezüge zu den politischen Nachbarn, den Fürstentümern Magdeburg und Halberstadt, Braunschweig und Lüneburg mit dem Wendland. Daraus erwächst von selbst der vergleichende Aspekt, wie er auch den ostelbischen Regionen der Mark Brandenburg gilt. Die Vergleiche heben die Merkmale hervor, die die Altmark bis zum Ende des Alten Reiches charakterisieren: eigenständige Gerichtsinstanzen, gute besitz- und personenrechtliche Verhältnisse der bäuerlichen Bevölkerung, eine auf verbriefte Privilegien wie auf angemaßte Observanzen pochende Ritterschaft, starke kommunale Kräfte in Stadt und Land, Bürgerschaften und Landgemeinden, die ihren Anspruch auf Selbst- und Mitbestimmung nicht aufgaben und auch im Zeitalter des Absolutismus um ökonomische, soziale und kulturelle Freiräume kämpften. Das manifestiert sich in vielfältigen, aus archivalischen Quellen ermittelten sozialen wie individuellen Handlungen, Verhaltens-, Lebens- und Denkweisen unterschiedlicher Interessengemeinschaften und gesellschaftlicher Gruppierungen in ihrem Mit- und Gegeneinander. Kunstvolle Briefe an andere Politiker und politisch einflussreiche Intellektuelle sollten das Problem lösen. Diese Briefe nutzten humanistische, juristische und theologische Metaphern, um Themen anzusprechen, die außerhalb der offiziellen Gremien tabu waren. Foscarini legte eine didaktisch aufgebaute Briefsammlung mit den wirksamsten seiner Briefe an –　ein Erfahrungsschatz, den er seinen Söhnen für ihre politischen Laufbahnen hinterließ.     Description: Flüchtlinge und Vertriebene aus den ehemaligen deutschen Ostgebieten und anderen Siedlungsräumen in Ostmittel- und Osteuropa kamen ab 1945 in sehr großer Zahl auch nach Brandenburg. Bis Ende 1946 nahm das Land mehr als 616.000 Menschen auf, was die Bevölkerung nicht nur erheblich vergrößerte, sondern auch in ihrer Zusammensetzung stark veränderte. Das weitere Schicksal der Betroffenen in der DDR ist jedoch kaum bekannt. Peter Bahl zeichnet erstmals auf breiter Quellenbasis ihre Ankunft und Integration sowie die Erinnerungskultur bis zur Gegenwart nach. Neben Akten lässt er dabei vielfach Zeitzeugen sowohl aus dem Kreis der Vertriebenen als auch dem der Einheimischen zu Wort kommen. An die Darstellung der Ereignisgeschichte schließt er eine Dokumentation für alle Städte und ausgewählte Landgemeinden mit handbuchartigen Informationen zur konkreten lokalen Entwicklung in 340 Orten an. In einem Editionsteil sind ferner 261 Quellentexte aus den Jahren 1945–2018 abgedruckt, die sich für eine vertiefende Beschäftigung mit dem Thema in Bildungsarbeit und Wissenschaft eignen.

    Description: Mit der Verwaltungsreform vom 23. Juli 1952 gab sich die erst drei Jahre zuvor gegründete DDR eine (staatliche) Verwaltungsstruktur, die bis zur Wende 1989/1990 erhalten blieb. Die faktische Abschaffung der Länder und ihre Neugliederung in 14 Bezirke stellten den tiefgreifendsten Umbau der Staatsorganisation der DDR in all den Jahren ihres Bestehens dar. Die hier präsentierten 62 Quellen dokumentieren die Bildung und Etablierung der Bezirke in Brandenburg von 1952 bis 1960. Die Beweggründe und konzeptionellen Überlegungen der Initiatoren stehen ebenso im Blickfeld wie die konkreten Maßnahmen und praktischen Probleme des Übergangs von der Länder- zur Bezirksstruktur. Der Fokus richtet sich außerdem auf die Beziehungen zwischen den Instanzen, deren Qualität sich in Kontrollberichten, Verhandlungsprotokollen, intern gehaltenen Einschätzungen und nicht zuletzt in Erfahrungsberichten von Partei- und Staatsfunktionären niederschlug. Der informelle und interne Charakter dieser Quellen ermöglicht es, die bürokratische Praxis der DDR zu untersuchen und zugleich die Grenzen einer Selbstevaluierung des politischen und administrativen Systems zu erkennen.

    Description: Despite the opposition of two parties - first the Whigs and the Tories, then the Liberals and the Conservatives - 19th century Britain was characterized by a political culture of moderation. The bearers of this political culture were a group of politicians who always sought the middle way between the extremes and were known as Liberal Tories or Liberal Conservatives. This book fills a research gap by examining the development of this British Liberal Conservatism in the period from 1750 to 1850, first looking at Edmund Burke's political philosophy and then showing how the Liberal Tories and Liberal Conservatives who followed him drew on his thinking. It shows how politicians such as George Canning and Sir Robert Peel, based on Burke and the political philosophy of the "Old Whigs", pursued a centrist policy that was always oriented towards the virtues of moderation and prudence. The book thus sheds light on the conservative variant of liberalism that characterized Great Britain throughout the 19th century.

Diese z.T. mit Zuordnungszeichen versehenen Randstrophen zeugen von einer Textvarianz, die bislang in keiner Ausgabe berücksichtigt wurde. Die vorliegende Studie erprobt an diesem begrenzten Textbestand Möglichkeiten und Grenzen der Erschließung von Fassungsvarianten, die den erhaltenen Handschriften zeitlich vorausgehen. Einen Anhaltspunkt hierfür liefern die bereits im 19. Jh. konstatierten spezifischen Verteilungsverhältnisse von Wort- und Versvarianten in der Überlieferung. Diese nämlich führen zur Vermutung, dass die Neidhart-Überlieferung auf eine Vorlage mit Wahlmöglichkeiten zurückgeht – d.h. auf eine Vorlage, die zu einzelnen Textelementen alternative Lesarten bot, zwischen denen bei der Liedproduktion gewählt werden konnte. Auf der Basis dieses Textentstehungsmodells lässt sich – so die These des vorliegenden Buches – die in R angezeigte Fassungsvarianz weitgehend rekonstruieren. Einen Anhaltspunkt hierfür liefern die bereits im 19. Jh. konstatierten spezifischen Verteilungsverhältnisse von Wort- und Versvarianten in der Überlieferung. Diese nämlich führen zur Vermutung, dass die Neidhart-Überlieferung auf eine Vorlage mit Wahlmöglichkeiten zurückgeht – d.h. auf eine Vorlage, die zu einzelnen Textelementen alternative Lesarten bot, zwischen denen bei der Liedproduktion gewählt werden konnte. Auf der Basis dieses Textentstehungsmodells lässt sich – so die These des vorliegenden Buches – die in R angezeigte Fassungsvarianz weitgehend rekonstruieren. Das Buch liefert damit einen grundlegenden Beitrag zur Überlieferungsgeschichte und Textkritik von Neidharts Liedern.
