    Description: Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit wurde eine Plattform zur individuellen Ansteuerung einer Vielzahl thermisch aktivierter Mikroventile und aktoren, auf Grundlage eines Phasenüberganges, zum Einsatz in der Mikrofluidik entwickelt. Ventile dienen dazu den Fluidstrom in komplexen mikrofluidischen Systemen, aus Einsatzgebieten wie der Biologie, Chemie oder Biotechnologie, zu manipulieren. Mit steigender Komplexität der Mikrosysteme steigt auch die Anzahl der benötigten, individuell steuerbaren Mikroventile.

The term, beyond its generic meaning of an intermediate stage in a process in which a condition changes from one state to another, has always been used in various fields, from music to geophysics. In fact, the disciplines of drawing have always been confronted with themes and issues relating to transitions from one condition to another. The history of representation tells us of transformations, even epochal ones, relating to ‘drawing’, with all that such transitions entail: suffice it to think of the evolution of forms of representation, of instrumental apparatuses, of the mutability of supports, of the analogical-digital transition underway, of the new modes of communication on platforms, of the hypertrophic offer of images also on the net that confirms Guy Debord’s intuitions relating to the new spectacularisation of society. Similarly, representation triggers transitions in the prefiguration and communication of design, the anticipation and foreshadowing of future events.The challenges posed by the digital pose open questions whose scope can only be glimpsed, such as the relationship between drawing and the act of modelling, and the construction of new paradigms of visual language and communication. ‘Transitions’, almost implicitly, points to possible futures, the evolution of technique and the search for new modes of expression; at the same time, however, it can suggest silences and reflections in a process of connection between history, theory, criticism and construction.

    Description: In diesem Buch wird ein drahtloses OFDM-Kommunikationssystem für Hochgeschwindigkeitszüge analysiert, der Funkkanal modelliert und das Modell durch Messungen verifiziert. Mit Hilfe des Kanalmodells können drahtlose Zugkommunikationssysteme unter Berücksichtigung der hohen Zeitvarianz in optimaler Weise ausgelegt werden. Aus der Untersuchung verschiedener Einflüsse werden richtungsweisende Regeln für die Auslegung solcher Systeme abgeleitet und ein entsprechendes OFDM-System vorgeschlagen.

    Description: Für Verbindungen im Holzbau werden häufig selbstbohrende Holzschrauben eingesetzt. Diese können oft mit geringen Abständen untereinander und zu den Bauteilrändern angeordnet werden. Durch die Einhaltung von Mindestabständen und Mindestholzdicken soll hierbei ein Versagen des Holzes durch Aufspalten verhindert werden. Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit wurde ein Verfahren entwickelt, mit dem sich die Anforderungen an Abständen und Holzdicken effizienter und zuverlässiger als bisher bestimmen lassen.

    Description: Within the bioliq®-process, the organic phase of straw pyrolysis condensates can be gasified directly, while the aqueous phase can be mixed with char to form a slurry, which also can be gasified. For production and storage, several mixers and stirrers are examined. Grinding the porous and elongated char particles decelerates sedimentation and also reduces the viscosity. Thus, higher concentrated slurries can be mixed, which leads to higher stability.

    Description: The oscillating disc cutting process has shown excellent results in precisely removing area-limited-concrete structures. Due to the highly dynamic oscillatory motion, the stiffness requirements to the tool structure and the basic machine have to be considered, which is the main purpose of this work. Based on these results, a concept of a mechanical adaption of the oscillating disc cutting process to an excavator attachment tool will be developed and tested on a prototype.

    Description: This work describes the influence of catalytic converter heating strategies on the emissions during heating operation, as well as during the subsequent load demand at different engine start temperatures. A novel strategy is presented, that provides heating of the combustion chamber, without decreasing the catalyst converter heating significantly. The studies were carried out on a gasoline engine. Emissions were examined in detail. In addition, the flame propagation is evaluated experimentally.

    Description: The volume, dedicated to the 44th International Conference of the Italian Union for Drawing, investigates the theme of ‘Transitions’, which particularly effectively represents our time and the current condition of the discipline of Drawing. The term, beyond its generic meaning of an intermediate stage in a process in which a condition changes from one state to another, has always been used in various fields, from music to geophysics. In fact, the disciplines of drawing have always been confronted with themes and issues relating to transitions from one condition to another. The history of representation tells us of transformations, even epochal ones, relating to ‘drawing’, with all that such transitions entail: suffice it to think of the evolution of forms of representation, of instrumental apparatuses, of the mutability of supports, of the analogical-digital transition underway, of the new modes of communication on platforms, of the hypertrophic offer of images also on the net that confirms Guy Debord’s intuitions relating to the new spectacularisation of society. Similarly, representation triggers transitions in the prefiguration and communication of design, the anticipation and foreshadowing of future events.The challenges posed by the digital pose open questions whose scope can only be glimpsed, such as the relationship between drawing and the act of modelling, and the construction of new paradigms of visual language and communication. ‘Transitions’, almost implicitly, points to possible futures, the evolution of technique and the search for new modes of expression; at the same time, however, it can suggest silences and reflections in a process of connection between history, theory, criticism and construction.

    Description: Based on the Somatic Marker Hypothesis, an attempt is made to measure the anticipation of risky traffic situations by means of the electrodermal activity. The results indicate that the strength of the anticipatory electrodermal activity is systematically related to situational factors of a traffic situation. In addition, a model was derived that postulates an inverted U-shaped relationship between driver’s experience and anticipatory electrodermal activity.

    Description: Anhand von Kornwachstumsexperimenten wird das Verhalten von Korngrenzen in Strontiumtitanat im Temperaturbereich zwischen 1100°C und 1600°C untersucht. Die Ergebnisse werden unter Zuhilfenahme hochauflösender und analytischer Transmissionselektronenmikroskopie diskutiert. Einflüsse von Strontium-Titan-Verhältnis, Dotierungselementen und Verunreinigungen werden untersucht. Im Kornwachstumsverhalten auftretende Unstetigkeiten werden durch die Anisotropie der Grenzflächenenergie erklärt.

    Description: Mit der steigenden Bedeutung des Kraftstoffverbrauchs von Fahrzeugen geriet in den letzten Jahren auch die elektrische Leistungsaufnahme eines Fahrzeugs in den Blickpunkt. Diese ist durch den Zuwachs von Umfang und Komplexität von automobilen Elektrik/Elektronik-Systemen über die letzten Fahrzeuggenerationen hinweg stark angestiegen. In fact, the disciplines of drawing have always been confronted with themes and issues relating to transitions from one condition to another. The history of representation tells us of transformations, even epochal ones, relating to ‘drawing’, with all that such transitions entail: suffice it to think of the evolution of forms of representation, of instrumental apparatuses, of the mutability of supports, of the analogical-digital transition underway, of the new modes of communication on platforms, of the hypertrophic offer of images also on the net that confirms Guy Debord’s intuitions relating to the new spectacularisation of society. Similarly, representation triggers transitions in the prefiguration and communication of design, the anticipation and foreshadowing of future events.The challenges posed by the digital pose open questions whose scope can only be glimpsed, such as the relationship between drawing and the act of modelling, and the construction of new paradigms of visual language and communication. ‘Transitions’, almost implicitly, points to possible futures, the evolution of technique and the search for new modes of expression; at the same time, however, it can suggest silences and reflections in a process of connection between history, theory, criticism and construction.

    Description: Ein Problem beim Fügen von Wolfram mit Stahl sind thermisch induzierte Spannungen. Der hier gewählte Ansatz zur Reduzierung dieser Spannungen ist der Einsatz einer funktional gradierten Zwischenschicht. Vier verschiedene Herstellungsverfahren wurden erprobt mit dem Ziel gradierten Wolfram/Stahl-Zwischenschichten zu realisieren. Nach erfolgreicher Produktion und Charakterisierung wurden die gradierten Schichten mit Stahl- bzw. Wolframvollmaterial mittels Diffusionsschweißen gefügt.

For this purpose an optoelectronic simulation model is developed and simulated results and experimental data are compared to each other.     Description: The topic of this publication is the design of two new set-based methods for the determination of the states of linear parameter-varying systems. These sets are computed by interval observers based on unknown but bounded inputs, outputs and parameters. The effectiveness of the methods is demonstrated by the state estimation of an induction motor that is achieved by combining the interval observers with a novel model of a voltage source inverter.

    Description: Das Wachstum des zivilen Luftverkehrs bedeutet eine große Herausforderung für die Luftfahrtbranche. Nur durch effizientere Triebwerke können der spezifische Verbrauch von fossilen Energieträgern und die spezifischen Emissionen reduziert werden und so der Zugang zu Flugreisen für die wachsende Weltbevölkerung sichergestellt werden. Einen maßgeblichen Beitrag zur Steigerung der Effizienz kann die Optimierung der Kühlung von heißen Komponenten des Kerntriebwerks leisten. Gerade im thermisch hoch belasteten Bereich der ersten Turbinenstufen werden große Mengen an Kühlluft verwendet, die sich negativ auf den thermischen Wirkungsgrad auswirken. Neue Kühlverfahren ermöglichen es, den Kühlluftbedarf bei gleichen Standzeiten der Bauteile zu verringern. Vor einem möglichen Einsatz müssen diese neuen Verfahren untersucht und ihre Leistungsfähigkeit bestimmt werden, vor allem die Vorhersage der Materialtemperatur der Schaufeln muss hoch präzise erfolgen. Die vorliegende Arbeit präsentiert neue Verfahren zur Kühlung von Rotorschaufeln. Es wird speziell auf die Drallkühlung eingegangen, die sich in grundlegenden Untersuchungen und in Verbindung mit den sich rapide verbessernden Möglichkeiten der additiven Fertigung als vielversprechendes Verfahren herausgestellt hat. Zur Beurteilung der neuen Konzepte werden Untersuchungen durchgeführt, bei denen die wichtigen strömungsmechanischen Ähnlichkeitskennzahlen der Maschine eingehalten werden. So können die Ergebnisse unmittelbar auf den Einsatz im Triebwerk übertragen werden. Die Untersuchungen bedeuten eine Herausforderung für die als Messtechnik eingesetzte Infrarotthermographie. Neue Kalibrierverfahren werden entwickelt und überprüft. Durch Anwendung dieser Verfahren kann die Oberflächentemperatur der Prüflinge hoch genau bestimmt werden. Anhand der mit den neuen Verfahren bestimmten Verteilung der Oberflächentemperatur und weiteren aerodynamischen Messungen werden abschließend Empfehlungen formuliert, wie ein auf Drallkühlung basierendes Kühlsystem für Turbinenrotorschaufeln leistungsfähiger werden kann und so die geforderte Lebensdauer dieser Bauteile sicherstellen kann.

    Description: In einem Solarturmkraftwerk werden hunderte bis tausende Spiegel (sogenannte Heliostate) einzeln der Sonne nachgeführt, sodass das Sonnenlicht auf die Spitze eines Turmes konzentriert wird. Dort befindet sich der Receiver, der die Solarstrahlung absorbiert und an das Wärmeträgermedium weitergibt. Große thermische Energiespeicher erlauben die ganztägige Stromproduktion (auch Nachts). In aktuellen Solarturmkraftwerken kommen als Wärmeträger- und Speichermedium häufig flüssige Nitratsalze wie Solar Salt zum Einsatz. Aufgrund ihrer hohen Wärmekapazität und den geringen Kosten eignen sie sich sehr gut zur thermischen Energiespeicherung, jedoch bringen sie auch einige Nachteile mit sich. Flüssigmetalle weisen in vielen Punkten Vorteile gegenüber den Flüssigsalzen auf. In der vorliegenden Arbeit werden die Eigenschaften von Flüssigmetallen detailliert analysiert und mit Solar Salt verglichen. Zur Bewertung werden die Jahreserträge bzw. die Stromgestehungskosten (LCOE) herangezogen. Die Ergebnisse zeigen ein Potenzial zur Reduktion der Stromgestehungskosten mit Flüssigmetallen um bis zu 16 % gegenüber dem Referenzsystem mit Solar Salt, ohne dabei den Kraftwerksblock und den thermischen Speicher zu verändern.

    Description: To estimate the reachable specific energy and power of aqueous Li-air batteries, a physical based model was developed, which for the first time includes the microstructure of Li-air cells. Parameters like solid/liquid interface resistances were quantified with help of a newly developed setup. Simulations based on the developed model revealed that even conservative estimations promise an increase in the specific energy by at least a factor of two compared to present Li-ion batteries.

    Description: We have developed a microfluidic two-layered channel system based on polycarbonate to investigate the transmigration of cancer cells under flow conditions and defined shear rate using live cell microscopy. The two layers are separated by a porous membrane with an endothelial monolayer on top of the membrane to mimic the blood vessel wall. To extend the measuring capabilities of our microfluidic chip, gold electrodes were structured on the membrane using optical lithography and chemical etching.

    Description: Zahlreiche Anwendungen erfordern das Lokalisieren der Emissionsquelle bestimmter Luftbeimengungen. Beispiele hierfür sind die Leckageer-kennung in Gefahrenstofflagern und die Luftqualitätsüberwachung von Deponien. Die Grundlage einer solchen Quellenlokalisierung stellen räumlich verteilte Online-Konzentrationsmessungen dar, die beispiels-weise durch so genannte Elektronische Nasen ermöglicht werden.In dem vorliegenden Buch werden ausgehend von einem geometrischen Zugang neue, zweistufige Verfahren zur Quellenlokalisierung für die Ausbreitung durch turbulente Diffusion und Advektion vorgestellt.Grundidee des geometrischen Zugangs ist es, zunächst für jeden Sensor die Menge aller Punkte zu bestimmen, auf der sich aus der Sicht des einzelnen Sensors die Quelle befinden kann. Durch Bilden der Schnittmenge für mehrere Sensoren lässt sich dann daraus der Quellort ermitteln. Die entwickelten Verfahren umgehen die numerischen Schwierigkeiten der klassischen ausgangsfehlerbasierten einstufigen Verfahren (Maximum-likelihood-Schätzung) und liefern zudem Aussagen zur Existenz und Eindeutigkeit von Lösungen, zur Lage von Mehrfachlösungen sowie zur geeigneten Platzierung der Sensoren für die Quellenlokalisierung.Zahlreiche Simulationen und Experimente in einem industriellen Chemikalienlager belegen die Leistungsfähigkeit der neuen Verfahren.
