    Description: Is our thinking and thus the worldview the same or language-specific for all people? This book is an unequivocal answer to this age-old question, which was already pursued by Wilhelm von Humboldt: Our worldview is characterized by the grammar of one's mother tongue (s), so that people perceive, verbalise and also remember events in a language-specific way. These basic insights are made possible for the first time by the experimental approach of psycholinguistic methods (such as eye-tracking) selected here. The influence of language on cognition also proves to be extremely relevant to language contact. As a result of the centuries-long language contact between German and Czech, the aspect system of Czech has changed in such a way that event conzeptualization proceeds both in Czech and in German, and that Czech is systematically different from other East and West Slavic languages.
    Description: Ist unser Denken und somit die Weltsicht für alle Menschen gleich oder sprachspezifisch? Auf diese uralte Fragestellung, der bereits Wilhelm von Humboldt nachgegangen ist, gibt dieses Buch eine eindeutig bejahende Antwort: Unsere Weltanschauung wird durch die Grammatik der eigenen Muttersprache(n) geprägt, sodass Menschen Ereignisse sprachspezifisch wahrnehmen, versprachlichen und auch erinnern. Diese grundlegenden Erkenntnisse sind durch den hier gewählten experimentellen Zugang psycholinguistischer Methoden (z.B. Eye-Tracking) erstmalig möglich.Der Einfluss von Sprache auf Kognition erweist sich darüber hinaus für Sprachkontakt als extrem relevant. Infolge des über Jahrhunderte andauernden Sprachkontakts zwischen dem Deutschen und Tschechischen hat sich das Aspekt-System des Tschechischen dahingehend geändert, dass die Ereigniskonzeptualisierung im Tschechischen wie im Deutschen verläuft und das Tschechische sich systematisch von anderen ost- und westslawischen Sprachen absetzt.

    Description: Die hier vorliegende Publikation ist das erste Ergebnis in Monographieform des APART-Projekts "Migrationsphänomene in der Frühlatènezeit“ und des FWF-Projekts P-15977-G02 "The celtic cemetery of Mannersdorf (Lower Austria) in the context of east and west cultural contact“. In Mannersdorf am Leithagebirge, Flur Reinthal Süd wurden von 1976 bis 1984 vom Museum Mannersdorf durch H. Schutzbier und F. Opferkuh und dem Bundesdenkmalamt (G. Melzer) insgesamt 96 Körper und Brandgräber der Früh- und Mittellatènezeit ausgegraben. Das Gräberfeld selbst erstreckt sich in nw-so Richtung mit einer Länge von 200 und einer Breite von ca. 45 Metern. Es hat eine Belegungsdauer von Latène A2/B1 bis C1, was einer absoluten Datierung von ca. 400 bis 200 vuZ. entspricht. Die Qualität der Beigaben zeigt sich neben den Materialien Silber, Gold, Glas und Korallen vor allem in der technischen Ausführung der Artefakte. Ein markantes Stück des Gräberfeldes ist eine Bronzesitula, die ein Importstück aus Norditalien darstellt. Bestimmte Gebiete wie das Mittelrheingebiet, die Champagne und das Balkangebiet müssen damals intensive Verbindungen in den niederösterreichischen Raum gehabt haben. Zur Geschlechterverteilung im Gräberfeld ist zu bemerken, dass mit 48 Personen doppelt so viele Frauen wie Männer (24) vorkommen. Es lässt sich eine Gruppe der sogenannten "Lt B1-Elite- bzw. Spitzengräber“ herausarbeiten, die sich als die höchste Ausstattungsgruppe mit Doppelfuß- und Handreifen sowie dem Vorkommen von Edelmetall definieren. Die Nekropole gehört mit ihren 96 Gräbern zu den mittelgroßen des mittleren Donaugebiets. Es zeigt sich, dass es sich bei einem Teil der in Mannersdorf Bestatteten eventuell um eine Gruppe von Menschen handelt, die aus dem Gebiet der heutigen Schweiz stammten. Eine ebenso wahrscheinliche These wäre, dass es sich um Angehörige einer "Oberschicht“ handelt, die weitreichende wirtschaftliche und verwandtschaftliche Kontakte (und dadurch auch Mobilität) durch den "mitteleuropäischen Korridor“ und die anschließenden Gebiete wie Norditalien hatten und dies durch ihre Tracht und den zusätzlichen Besitz zum Ausdruck brachten. Ergänzende Analysen von Bronzematerial, Keramik, Tierknochen, Eisenschmiedetechnik, Goldschmiedetechnik, Textil- und Herstellungstechnik und Steinartefakten stellen einen unverzichtbaren Teil der Darstellung dieses latènezeitlichen Gräberfeldes dar.Gedruckt mit Unterstützung des Fonds zur Förderung der wissenschaftlichen Forschung (FWF).

    Description: Für gehörlose Lernende stellt das Schreiben eine doppelte Herausforderung dar: Gebärdensprachen verfügen über keine Gebrauchsschrift, weshalb gehörlose Schreiber/-innen die Schrift der umgebenden Lautsprache verwenden.     Description: Ennodius lived during the reign of the Ostrogothic King Theoderic. When he wrote his various works he was deacon in Milan, later becoming Bishop of Pavia. This study is an introduction to his life and works, and reveals how the deacon promoted the ´worldly` culture of languages and rhetoric. Particular attention is paid to the letters which he sent to secular and ecclesiastic officials (including the Pope), as well as relatives. Among other things, he demanded that the Roman ruling classes crown their privileged position by dedicating themselves to cultural matters.

    Description: Historical text species research is still a relatively unexplored field for German, and so far only a few historical text types have been recorded and described. With the medical reports, this study focuses on a historical text class, which was of central importance for medical communication as early as the 17th and 18th centuries. Starting point of the investigation are common, present-oriented textlinguistic description approaches that are modified for language-historical contexts and extended by important pragmatic categories. The greater consideration of meta-communicative knowledge inventories, as manifested in rhetoric textbooks, text-type guides and text-type designations, has proven particularly fruitful. On the basis of this broad analysis model, the respective text types - Consilia, court reports and section reports - are examined and described in terms of cultural and historical science as well as with regard to the linguistic characteristics typical for them. The study thus offers not only language and medical historians but also cultural scientists an interesting insight into the medical specialist communication of the time.
    Description: Die historische Textsortenforschung ist für das Deutsche ein noch relativ unerschlossenes Feld und so sind bisher nur einige wenige historische Textsorten erfasst und beschrieben. Mit den medizinischen Gutachten nimmt diese Studie eine historische Textsortenklasse in den Blick, die schon im 17. und 18. Jahrhundert von zentraler Bedeutung für die ärztliche Kommunikation war. Ausgangspunkt der Untersuchung sind gängige, gegenwartsbezogene textlinguistische Beschreibungsansätze, die für sprachhistorische Kontexte modifiziert und um wichtige pragmatische Kategorien erweitert werden. Als besonders fruchtbar erweist sich die stärkere Berücksichtigung metakommunikativer Wissensbestände wie sie sich in Rhetoriklehrbüchern, Textsortenanleitungen und Textsortenbenennungen manifestieren. Auf der Basis dieses breit angelegten Analysemodells werden die entsprechenden Textsorten – Consilia, Gerichtsgutachten und Sektionsberichte – kultur- und wissenschaftshistorisch sowie hinsichtlich der für sie typischen sprachlichen Merkmale untersucht und beschrieben. Die Studie bietet damit nicht nur für Sprach- und Medizinhistoriker, sondern auch für Kulturwissenschaftler einen interessanten Einblick in die medizinische Fachkommunikation dieser Zeit.
