    Description: This work presents methods for using the ceramic glow plug as a sensor element. This means that the ceramic glow plug will not only perform its conventional task as a heating element but will also provide information, such as motor speed, from the combustion chamber as a sensor. The main focus will be on the change in resistance, particularly under the influence of a temperature change, in the immediate vicinity of the ceramic glow plug.

    Description: The quasi-n-level operation of the flying capacitor converter (FCCs) is an optimized operation mode of a multilevel converter. The quasi-n-level operation of a multilevel converter was presented with an analysis of its advantages and disadvantages. For the Q2LB of the FCC, the theory as well as the control, modulation and balancing algorithms are presented. A medium voltage prototype was built to validate the theory.

    Description: This work presents a physically motivated model for predicting the current/voltage behavior of PEM fuel cells. Extensive impedance measurements and DRT analyses were used to identify and quantify all loss processes. The developed model was successfully validated and provides insights into the internal processes of the fuel cell. It enables targeted optimization and shows great potential for increasing the performance of PEM fuel cells.

    Description: The approach of a laser scanning headlamp for adaptive light functions includes six laser sources which are deviated on a micro mirror. The oscillation of that mirror generates an extended light distribution on a white light converter which is then projected on the road.     Description: Carsharing kann wesentlich zur Reduzierung privater PKW beitragen. Dennoch verharrt es in der Nische. Die vorliegende Arbeit sucht nach den Gründen des Nischendaseins und dies mit Fokus auf unterschiedliche Stakeholdergruppen. Neben der Darstellung der Einflusswirkungen sowie deren Einordnung und Auswertung auf der Grundlage des Stakeholder Salience Modell von Mitchell et al. gibt der Autor Handlungsempfehlungen, wie es zu einer Ausweitung des Carsharing in Deutschland kommen kann. Car sharing can contribute significantly to reducing the number of private cars. Nevertheless, it remains in the niche. This work looks for the reasons for this niche existence and does so with a focus on different stakeholder groups. In addition to the presentation of the effects of influence as well as their classification and evaluation on the basis of the Stakeholder Salience Model by Mitchell et al., the author gives recommendations for action on how an expansion of car sharing in Germany can be achieved.

    Description: The simulation of ceramic phosphors by means of the diffusion approximation of the radiation transport equation is extended from rotationally symmetrical cases to general, three-dimensional problems. The phosphor is simulated with the diffusion approximation for a temporal and spacial variable laser light source for the first time. Therefore, different laser light sources are being compared to evaluate, which one of the alternatives is best suited for the intended use in an automotive head lamp.

    Description: Although laser cutting of metals is a well-established process, there is considerable potential for improvement with regard to various requirements for the manufacturing industry. First, this potential is identified and then it is shown how improvements could be made using machine learning. For this purpose, a database was generated.     Description: Die vorliegenden Essays behandeln im Stil der integrierten Bild-Text-Interpretation ausgewählte typische Bildquellen der entwickelten Massenkonsumgesellschaft von Kalenderblättern über Werbung bis Quartettkarten in dem Bemühen, sie durch Fragen nach ihrer Bedeutung für die Identitätskonstruktion ihrer Zielgruppen in den Kontext der Zeit einzuordnen. Es geht darum, den Gesichtspunkt der Massenhaftigkeit in die Deutung einer Quelle einzubeziehen, ihr ,soziales Leben' u.a. durch ein Aufzeigen der Bildroutinen und Genrehaftigkeit der Texte sowie der Strategien von Werbung als Bestandteil der identitätsstiftenden Bedeutung von Technik für uns sichtbar zu machen. Der ausgewählte Zeitraum mit einem Schwerpunkt in den 1920er bis 1960er Jahren spiegelt die technik- wie gesellschaftsgeschichtlich anerkannte Tatsache, dass diese Jahrzehnte eine Achsenzeit insbesondere der Mobilitätstechnik, aber auch auch der ,Demokratisierung' von Technik für alle in der Konsumgesellschaft darstellen. Daher kommt den beiden Mobilitätstechniken Eisenbahn und Auto besondere Bedeutung zu, mit einem deutlichen Schwerpunkt beim Auto als der Identitätsmaschine schlechthin. Der Begriff des Rituals soll auf die Regelmäßigkeit und Dauerhaftigkeit des Auftretens bestimmter Bilder und Aussagen in den befragten Quellen hinweisen, um auf diese Weise zum Verständnis des technikabhängigen sozialen Wandels und der mental formatierenden Wirkung von Bildroutinen beizutragen. Zugleich geht es um die Erschließung von Quellenmaterial, das in der Kulturgeschichte der Technik bislang selten oder jedenfalls nicht mit Blick auf die soziale Konstruktion von Identitäten untersucht worden ist.

In this work, the low voltage grid is investigated as a transmission channel for frequencies up to 500 kHz.     Description: In the first part of this dissertation, a framework for the design of a CNN for FPGAs is presented, consisting of a preprocessing algorithm, an augmentation technique, a custom quantization scheme and a pruning step of the CNN. The combination of conventional image processing with neural networks is shown in the second part by an example from robotics, where an image-based visual servoing process is successfully conducted for a gripping process of a robot.

A disadvantage, however, is the need for high sampling rates, which is exactly the starting point of the frequency comb OFDM radar scheme. With its help, the bandwidth in the radar channel can be enhanced without increasing the sampling rates at the same time. In this way, a high range resolution can be achieved without using fast converters with high sampling rates.

However, in harsh environmental conditions, particles from rain or dust attach on the outer surface of the sensor and cause a degradation of the overall performance. This work introduces several methods to detect and characterize those particles, realizing the integration of an intelligent and fully automated cleaning system to restore the required performance.

    Description: In this work describes the development of a light-based driver assistance system through projections on the road. Under realistic conditions it is shown that information can be transmitted to the driver at night by using projections in front of the vehicle: test persons drive more safely through narrow spaces and react earlier to obstacles. A prototype suitable for road use demonstrates the possibility of a near-series implementation of such a headlamp projection system.

    Description: In this work, two methods are developed and evaluated to integrate and test functional chains of automotive lighting functions on simulation-based test systems. The focus is initially on an approach for the efficient use of light for the display of high contrasts in virtual night driving with a real driver assistance camera. Furthermore, a test method is developed to evaluate pixel-based lighting functions on a hardware-in-the-loop test system based on metrics. In this work, two methods to stimulate and test automotive front lighting functions on simulation-based test benches are developed and evaluated. The first approach deepens the idea to reach necessary high contrasts for virtual night driving with a real driver assistance camera by an efficient use of reflecting light. Furthermore, a test method is shown to test pixel-based lighting functions based on metrics on a hardware-in-the-loop test bench.

    Description: The electrical energy on electrified bicycles offers new functional possibilities such as an active safety system to assist the rider during the braking process. This work shows the technical feasibility of such a system by presenting a rideable prototype. The so-called braking dynamics assistance system prevents the cyclist from both front wheel lockup and rollover (along the vehicle’s transverse axis).

    Description: Within the scope of this work a generic approach to the control of multiple-drive electric vehicles is evolved. An analysis of the overall system with respect to the exploitable degrees of freedom for wheel torque control reveals that several possible solutions for distributing wheel torque exist in certain driving situations. This characteristic of over-actuated systems is exploited in order to pursue further subordinate objectives from from a control perspective.

    Description: This book examines the Vehicle-Routing-Problem with split-deliveries and alternative delivery periods (SDVRPA). It is solved with a Branch-and-Price-Algorithm. When alternative delivery periods and split-deliveries are employed, freight forwarders get a wider scope for planning and can therefore plan more efficient routes. Even with few alternative delivery periods, which allow vehicles to be used more efficiently, substantial savings can be achieved.

    Description: New methods to generate and analyze motions of humanoid robots are presented and applied to a demonstrator. Reflexes of humans and neural central pattern generators (CPGs) were used as archetype. With leaky Integrate-and-Fire neurons a generic reflex template was designed and put to work for several specialized reflexes. The designed CPGs were used to analyze robotik motion as well as for generation of locomotion patterns on a biped demonstrator.

    Description: Verbrennungsprozesse sind meist mit der Emission von Schadstoffen verbunden, weshalb sie möglichst schadstoffarm und energieeffizient geführt werden müssen.Bei den bislang dominierenden primären Brennstoffen sind aufgrund der gleichbleibenden Brennstoffeigenschaften langfristig optimierte Technologien und feste Regelungen einsetzbar. Zunehmend werden jedoch sekundäre Brennstoffe wie Prozessabgase oder Biomasse genutzt. Sie haben stark veränderliche chemisch-physikalische Eigenschaften und bewirken so einen veränderlichen Verbrennungsablauf der schwierig beherrschbar ist. Eine optimale Verbrennung lässt sich dann nur durch eine an den Verbrennungszustand und die Brennstoffe adaptierte modellbasierte Prozessregelung erreichen, die noch nicht Stand der Technik ist.Die Arbeit widmet sich im ersten Schwerpunkt dem modellbasierten Reglungsentwurf. Die theoretische Modellierung und der modellbasierte Entwurf adaptiver Regelungen für die Temperatur und die Sauerstoffkonzentration im Abgas wird am Beispiel einer halbtechnischen Brennkammer für veränderliche Brenngase analysiert. Berücksichtigt wird dabei das für Verbrennungen typische vorhaltbehaftete Regelstreckenverhalten.Der zweite Schwerpunkt bildet die online Messung und die rechnerba-sierte Auswertung von Zustandsgrößen am Beispiel der infrarotbasierten Temperaturmessung bei einem Feststoffbrennbett. Es werden neue Auswerteverfahren entwickelt, die sich u.a. auch bei der Regelung industrieller Verbrennungen bewährt haben.

    Description: Comprehension of the beating of the human heart is important for cardiac research and will improve many clinical applications. Simulations based on models describing cardiac electro-mechanics can acquire insights into this behavior. This work focuses on the mathematical reconstruction of electrophysiology, excitation conduction, and tension development in the human heart on the cellular and the tissue level. The tissue models represent accurate anatomical shapes of the atria and the ventricles and incorporate electrophysiological heterogeneity and anisotropic conduction. The simulations comprehend the physiological behavior of the ventricles and of the atrium including the sinoatrial node as well as pathological cases like ventricular and atrial fibrillation and genetic defects in ionic channels.

    Description: This work presents investigates the feasibility of the ""directly steered wheels (DSW)"" under operating condition of tramcars. After analyzing the wheel/rail geometric contact between track and DSW, a mathematical model has been developed to describe the lateral dynamics. Based on this model, a robust guidance controller is designed according to the µ-synthesis. The results of simulations show that the DSW with the designed controller can improve the running performance of tramcars significantly.

The influence of the circumferential stiffness of the tread blocks on the tyre/road noise is discussed afterwards.

    Description: Amorphes Siliciumdioxid findet als Füllstoff verbreitet Anwendung. Es wird u.a. durch die Vermischung einer Silikatlösung mit einer Säure hergestellt. Dabei entsteht intermediär ein Gel. Mit dieser Arbeit wird ein Beitrag zur Steuerung der Eigenschaften des Produktpulvers geleistet. Es wird eine Formel vorgestellt, mit der die Gelierzeit aus den Konzentrationen der Einsatzstoffe abgeschätzt werden kann. Für die Fragmentierung des Gels werden Parallelen zum Aufbruch hochviskoser Tropfen gezeigt.

In dieser Arbeit wurde die Rückkühlung von YBCO-Bandleitern nach einer Strombegrenzung untersucht. Weiterhin wurde ein Entwurfsgang für HTSL-Transformatoren erstellt und ein 60 kVA-Transformator entworfen und getestet. Darüber hinaus wurde eine Fallstudie zur Energieeinsparung durch HTSL-Transformatoren erstellt.

    Supraleitende koplanare Mikrowellenfilter für radioastronomische Empfänger bei 15 K (2021)

    Description: In dieser Arbeit wird die anwendungsorientierte Entwicklung von Empfangsfiltern für das Radioteleskop des Max Planck Institutes für Radioastronomie (MPIfR) in Effelsberg vorge-stellt. Dort bestand großes Interesse an Bandpassfiltern für das 21 cm bzw. 11 cm Band, die bei radioastronomischen Polarisationsmessungen zum Einsatz kommen sollen. Für beide Bänder sind jeweils zwei zirkularpolarisierte Empfangskanäle auf ein Polarimeter geschaltet, das eine Empfängerrauschtemperatur von ca. 5 K besitzt. Die schmalbandigen Vorfilter für jeden einzelnen Kanal sollen daher im Durchlassbereich eine extrem kleine Dämpfung und möglichst identische Übertragungscharakteristiken (Streuparameter) bei einer Betriebstemperatur von 15 K aufweisen. Dabei soll dieses Ergebnis ohne jegliche nachträgliche mechanische Abstimmung, wie z. B. durch die Verwendung keramischer Schrauben, erreicht werden. Für die spätere Endmontage auf einem Kaltfinger im Hochvakuum, wird zudem ein möglichst hoher Grad an Miniaturisierung der einzelnen Bandpässe angestrebt, um die Packungsdichte des Komplettsystems zu erhöhen. Neben der notwendigen Filtersynthese, um die geforderten Übertragungscharakteristiken zu erreichen, werden die benötigten Materialien mit ihren Eigenschaften beschrieben, mittels derer die elektrischen Anforderungen der konzipierten Netzwerke erfüllt werden können. Darüber hinaus werden die Bauelemente, um das Ziel einer hohen Integration der einzelnen Bandpässe zu erreichen, und die Entwicklung sowie Auslegung koplanarer Leitungsresonatoren in Mäanderform für den modularen Aufbau der Bandpässe vorgestellt. Mit den gewonnenen Resultaten aus Simulationen und insbesondere Mes-sungen an realisierten Filterexemplaren schließt diese Arbeit.

Durch goniometrische Strahlungsflussmessungen im UV wurden die erreichte Leistungsdichte und Plasma-Effizienz bestimmt.

    Description: The influence of foot geometry on energy efficiency in bipedal walking is investigated. A method for the optimization of the foot geometry of a bipedal robot is developed. It is based on a planar model with arbitrary convex foot geometry in combination with a hybrid zero dynamics based controller. Optimal gaits and foot geometries are determined. The average energy consumption can be reduced by more than 80% compared to a model with point feet.

    Description: In dieser Arbeit werden dual-orthogonal, linear polarisierte Antennen für die UWB-Technik konzipiert. Das Prinzip zur Realisierung der Strahler wird vorgestellt, theoretisch und simulativ untersucht, sowie messtechnisch verifiziert. Danach werden Konzepte zur Miniaturisierung der Strahler dargelegt, die anschließend zum Aufbau von Antennengruppen verwendet werden. Die Vorteile der entwickelten Antennen werden praktisch anhand des bildgebenden Radars und des Monopuls-Radars gezeigt.

    Die tribologischen Eigenschaften von vergoldeten elektrischen Kontakten (2021)

    Description: Electrical contacts in automotive applications are exposed to thermal and vibration induced relative motion in the tribological contact. Fretting tests with an AuCo/Ni vs. Au/NiP ball to plate contact were conducted in order to describe the ongoing wear mechanisms. Furthermore, a global wear approach was chosen to quantify the overall wear. According to a predefined electrical failure criterion the connector lifetime is demonstrated in a model depending on oscillating amplitude, gold thickness and contact roughness. The electrical failure of the contact can be reduced to the wear of the gold platings leading to exposure of the nickel interlayer and consequently oxidation. Through material transfer, plowing, particle generation and the particle transport mechanisms the contact resistance increases and therefore limits the connector lifetime. The link between the lifetime models and the global wear approach allows for calculation of the lifetime when only the wear and the stress of the tribosystem are known.

    Description: This study deals with the fatigue behaviour of metal-matrix-composites (MMCs) having ceramic contents of 30 to 39 Vol-%. The MMCs where produced by way of infiltrating a ceramic preform by an aluminium alloy. The characterisation of the MMC's cyclic and fatigue behaviour was researched on the basis of isothermal and thermal-mechanical fatigue tests.

In this work, a thermodynamic approach was used to elucidate the electrochemical behavior of conversion-type electrodes using Li-Cu-O and Li-Fe-O as model material systems. electrochemical properties can be calculated using self-sonstistent thermodynamic descriptions developed in this work.

    Description: In dieser Arbeit wird einerseits die Lebensdauer der LEDs im System aus der Datenblattangabe der Hersteller und dem gemessenen Betriebspunkt in Abhängigkeit der Umgebungstemperatur berechnet. Alternativ wird die Lichtstromdegradation des Gesamtsystems über mehrere tausend Stunden gemessen und auf den L70-Wert extrapoliert. Um dabei den Messfehler aufgrund mangelnder thermischer Stabilisierung zu eliminieren, wurde eine Methode zur analytischen Beschreibung der Stabilisierung entwickelt.

    Description: Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit wurde ein mehrlagiges mikrofluidisches Lab-on-a-Chip-System auf Polymerbasis für den Einsatz in der Ionenanalytik, Lebensmittelanalytik und Bioanalytik entwickelt. Hierfür wurden Folienchips mit einer integrierten Membran auf PC-COC-Basis und Folienchips auf PEEK-Basis hergestellt, welche die Durchführung einer zweidimensionalen Kapillarelektrophorese (2D-CE) mit kapazitiv gekoppelter kontaktloser Leitfähigkeitsdetektion auf einem Chip ermöglichen.
