    Description: This volume concludes the edition of Heinrich von Mügeln's smaller poems. This is the first complete edition of the hymns of one of the most important poets of the 14th century. The volume also contains two of Mügeln's Latin texts: 'Artes liberales' and 'Libri tocius biblie', two summaries on the liberal arts and the books of the Old Testament. The centerpiece of the volume is 'Der meide kranz', an allegorical poem about the struggle between the liberal arts and between the virtues and nature, written in honor of Emperor Charles IV.     Description: Despite the opposition of two parties - first the Whigs and the Tories, then the Liberals and the Conservatives - 19th century Britain was characterized by a political culture of moderation. The bearers of this political culture were a group of politicians who always sought the middle way between the extremes and were known as Liberal Tories or Liberal Conservatives. This book fills a research gap by examining the development of this British Liberal Conservatism in the period from 1750 to 1850, first looking at Edmund Burke's political philosophy and then showing how the Liberal Tories and Liberal Conservatives who followed him drew on his thinking. It shows how politicians such as George Canning and Sir Robert Peel, based on Burke and the political philosophy of the "Old Whigs", pursued a centrist policy that was always oriented towards the virtues of moderation and prudence. The book thus sheds light on the conservative variant of liberalism that characterized Great Britain throughout the 19th century.

    Description: The life and miracles of St. Elisabeth of Thuringia are the subject of the 'Life of Elisabeth' by the Eisenach council scribe Johannes Rothe (ca. 1360-1434). Rothe, who had already written spiritual works and three extensive chronicles ('Eisenacher Stadtchronik', 'Thüringische Landeschronik' and 'Weltchronik'), offers a comprehensive rendition of the chronicle and legendary tradition in the rhyming verse legend of over 4,000 verses, whereby, in addition to the chronicles, he particularly exploits the Latin Vita of Dietrich von Apolda. In the formal connection to the legends of the saints and the orientation towards chronicles in terms of content, Rothe adopts a cross-genre standpoint. Elisabeth's life is integrated into the genealogy of the landgrave's dynasty and thus becomes part of the landgrave's memorial culture. In the history of the text's reception, with numerous copies up to the 18th century, there is evidence of corresponding emphases: the work was used partly as a devotional book and partly as part of the dynastic memoria of the Thuringian dynasty.

    Description: So far, scholarship has classified the speculation crises of the eighteenth century as having had no real economic consequences. This study aims to review this theory by looking at seven speculation crises. It concludes that these crises did not just have all of the central characteristics of modern speculation crises but also became global in scope with considerable economic and social consequences.

Aus Berichten und Aktennotizen über Auseinandersetzungen um Löhne, Kündigungen, Arbeitsunfälle und Vertragsbrüche entsteht eine neuartige und spannend zu lesende Geschichte des englischen Arbeitsrechts im Industriezeitalter. Willibald Steinmetz untersucht erstmals die Praxis der niederen Gerichte bei Arbeitsstreitigkeiten und lässt dabei nicht nur die Juristen, sondern auch die Laien, klagende und beklagte Arbeitnehmer und Arbeitgeber, zu Worte kommen. Klassenjustiz der Richter, hohe Kosten, undurchschaubare Prozeduren, peinliche Kreuzverhöre waren nur einige der Gründe, die englischen Arbeitnehmern wenig Chancen auf Erfolg vor Gericht gaben. Das Buch belegt, wie sehr die Struktur des englischen Rechts selbst dazu beitrug, dass die englischen Arbeitsbeziehungen seit dem späten 19. In der Vergangenheit ist der Diskurs zum „russischen Raum - wenn überhaupt &#8211 vorwiegend in völkerpsychologischen, essentialistischen und deterministischen Kategorien geführt worden. Der epochale Vorgang der Auflösung der Sowjetunion einerseits und die neue Aufmerksamkeit für die räumliche Dimension geschichtlichen Geschehens andererseits eröffnen eine Perspektive, in der Raum und Raumbewältigung als Probleme russischer Geschichte neu gedacht werden können.     Description: Die Pariser Vorstadt Ivry-sur-Seine ist seit 1925 eine Hochburg des französischen Kommunismus. Trotz Repressionen und weitgehender Ausgrenzung aus der französischen Mehrheitsgesellschaft konnte der Parti communiste francais seine Hegemonialstellung in Ivry halten und seit den 1960er Jahren noch weiter ausbauen. Lokale, nationale und auch ideologische Faktoren begünstigten die Entstehung dieses politisch-sozialen Milieus, dessen Gedankenwelt einen Teil der französischen Linken bis heute prägt. Die Studie geht der Frage nach, wie das kommunistische Milieu vor den Toren von Paris entstehen und seinen spezifischen Charakter über die Brüche der politischen Systeme in Frankreich im 20. Jahrhundert behalten konnte.
