Description: Virtual and hybrid teaching: what has been a stopgap solution for many in recent years is becoming increasingly important for foreign language teaching today. This book presents current developments in digitised language teaching and provides an outlook on its future. The authors offer a comprehensive overview of teaching concepts for virtual and hybrid teaching. They also present concrete suggestions and numerous tried-and-tested examples for practical application. The focus is on the role of the teacher in the learning process. A commentary on the use of chatbots, such as ChatGPT, in teaching picks up the debate on the topic of artificial intelligence and sheds light on its relevance for language teaching.

Description: Research into exile has so far focused on numerous groups of people persecuted by the National Socialists: Writers, artists, scientists, politicians and many others. One group, however, has remained largely invisible until now: translators. How did they get to their places of exile? What did they translate there, how and why? The authors of this book pursue these questions in material-rich studies and show the complex connection between translating and the experience of exile. In doing so, they open up an exciting new area for historical exile research, in which most of what seemed to have been said already.

Description: Age is a central characteristic of literary characters. It determines their scope of action, their behavioral repertoire, their social relationships with others and much more. The category of age is particularly significant for children's and young adult literature: questions of dependencies, knowledge, experiences, memories and development can be negotiated via age constructions. Adults do not only appear as parents and teachers. They are also (great-)grandparents and older people in other social roles who become important counterparts for child and adolescent characters – e.g. in relation to existential topics such as illness and death. However, the topic has so far been underexposed in literary studies and literary didactics. This volume changes that: using relevant texts from the genres of picture books, children's and young adult novels and film, the authors focus on these diverse relationship constellations. The result is an important contribution to the exploration of current children's and youth media.

Description: Elocution and speech training are among the core areas of speech science in research, teaching and practice. The volume Voice – Speech – Theater. Sprechwissenschaft im Dialog offers an update on the current scientific and practical cooperation between university speech science and schools as well as colleges of drama and music. In the transdisciplinary exchange between research and practice, the focus is on the discussion of proven and new approaches to theory and methodology as well as on the current requirements of artistic practice. Specifically, the focus will be on special aspects of gestural communication and choral speaking, laughing and crying on stage, artificial voices and "theatricality" in the art of speaking. In addition, topics such as text learning and voice disorders, which are always present in the acting profession, are also discussed. An overview of relevant research work at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg rounds off the volume.

Description: Literary multilingualism and the transnational turn are currently hot topics in literary studies. They are best studied in the multilingual and widely networked Romanian literatures. The contributions collected here illustrate the numerous and close connections of Romanian literatures on various levels: - regionally to the languages, literatures and cultures of the Balkan region - in the European region to western and southern Romania, and - across continents, i.e. in a global context. The specific contribution that Romanian studies can make today – within Romance studies as well as in the context of current debates in literary studies – becomes apparent.

Description: Since Pierre Bourdieu, we have known that the body forms incorporated cultural and social capital. It is a commodity and means of production, a sign of belonging to a social class, a place where sex, gender and power relations are negotiated or a pretext for social exclusions and racism. The body is the object of punishments, sanctions and social control, a support for affects, obsessions and illnesses as well as a site of rebellion and resistance. The 19th century novels analyzed in the contributions to this volume tell all this. From the perspective of current body studies, we propose a new reading of the great stories from Balzac to Zola, via Mirbeau, Maupassant, Louise Michel, Georges Sand, Rachilde, Eugène Sue and Huysmans to demonstrate, through their texts, how the Images of the body and the policies of capital are part of the imagination and memory of 19th century French society.

Description: Accessible legal communication seems to be a contradiction in itself: Legal terminology places high demands on comprehension. Easy language, on the other hand, aims for maximum comprehensibility. Isabel Rink explores the options for successful accessible legal communication. She shows how it is possible to get the relevant types of texts accessible to all. She takes a look at a pilot project of the Lower Saxony Ministry of Justice: " Easy Language in the Lower Saxony Judiciary". The author demonstrates how texts of legal-administrative communication must be designed in order to be accessible, understandable, acceptable and actionable for people with perceptual and comprehension impairments, so that addressees who were previously excluded from the legal system also gain access to it. Isabel Rink is co-founder and managing director of the Research Centre for Easy Language, research assistant at the Institute for Translation Studies and Specialised Communication at the University of Hildesheim and junior research group leader of the doctoral group Barrier-free Medical Communication (BK Med) at the Research Centre for Easy Language. Together with Christiane Maaß, she edited the handbook Barrier-free Communication.

Description: Communication at work as well as multilingualism, language policy and language politics are increasingly in the focus of linguistic research. Global division of labor, internationalization of labor and trade markets, mobility of highly skilled and unskilled workers, and commodification of language as a product have all played their part. The authors of this book outline the complexity and breadth of the research field: from language courses for asylum seekers to integrate them into the labor market, to linguistic diversity in school social work and competence profiles for lay interpreters in professional contexts, to linguistic practices in the highly internationalized world of soccer and the preconditions of successful communication in the multilingual environment of EU institutions. The contributions offer insights into existing practices, identify challenges, and present possible solutions.

Description: Nothing has highlighted the importance of digital teaching and learning opportunities more obviously than the Corona pandemic. This book therefore focuses on multicodal or multimedia digital teaching. The authors examine it from various perspectives and make suggestions for successful didactic implementation. In addition to general topics of digital teaching, they devote particular attention to visual literacy, which plays a special role in multimedia teaching. Criticism of teachers' lack of digital skills alone will not lead to success. Therefore, ways are shown here how these skills can be acquired. Tips and concrete examples for suitable apps, serious games, and online training courses round off the volume.
