    Description: The Carnuntum canabae legionis holds a special place in the category of the civilian suburbs of Roman fortresses. An overall plan of the canabae now exists, thanks to the intensification of aerial-archaeological evaluations in recent years in the area of present-day villages of Petronell and Bad Deutsch-Altenburg (Lower Austria, A); its richness in detail makes it unique. The hope of obtaining additional evidence regarding the expansion and chronology of the settlement - as well as the use of municipal zones (such as residential, economic and funerary areas, and open spaces) - was linked to the idea of performing a large-scale surface survey.
    Description: Die Carnuntiner canabae legionis nehmen unter den römischen Lagervorstädten eine Sonderstellung ein. Dank der in den letzten Jahren intensivierten luftbildarchäologischen Auswertung auf dem Gebiet der heutigen Gemeinden von Petronell und Bad Deutsch-Altenburg (Niederösterreich, A) liegt mittlerweile ein canabae-Gesamtplan vor, der hinsichtlich seines Detailreichtums wohl als singulär unter den römischen Lagervorstädten einzustufen ist. Mit einem großflächig konzipierten Oberflächensurvey war die Hoffnung verknüpft, ergänzende Indizien für die Siedlungsausdehnung, für die Siedlungschronologie und für die Nutzung von Siedlungszonen (Wohnbebauung, Wirtschaftsbereiche, Gräberfelder, Freiflächen) zu erhalten.

    Description: An animal bone assemblage discovered in an area of Late Bronze Age aboveground activities at the Hallstatt salt mining site was analysed. Together with sunken logwall structurs the results support the idea of a large-scale production of salt-meat, ham and bacon.

    Description: The publication gives a complete documentation of the old rescue excavations by Josef Bayer and Viktor Lebzelter in 1931 as well as of the systematic investigations of the Neolithic cemetery under the direction of Johannes-Wolfgang Neugebauer and Christine Neugebauer-Maresch between 1987–1991. The burial customs of this early farming population are analyzed together with the grave goods, which comprise an exceptionally large number of grinding stones, as well as ceramics, bone tools, shell ornaments, chert and traces of red ochre. The results of analyses of anthropological remains pertaining to 57 inhumations − more than half of the bodies were oriented SE-NW and the majority buried in a crouched position on the left side − are complemented by 14C-dates and isotope-analyses.
    Description: Die Publikation bietet sowohl eine vollständige Dokumentation der ersten Notgrabungen von Josef Bayer und Viktor Lebzelter 1931 als auch der systematischen Rettungsgrabungen zwischen 1987–1991 unter der Leitung von Johannes-Wolfgang Neugebauer und Christine Neugebauer-Maresch. Die Bestattungssitten dieser frühen bäuerlichen Bevölkerung werden ebenso eingehend analysiert wie die Grabfunde, die eine ungewöhnlich große Anzahl an Mahlsteinfragmenten und Reibplatten umfassen, weiters Keramik, Knochengeräte, Muschelschmuck, Silex und Spuren von Rötel. Die Resultate der Analysen der anthropologischen Überreste von 57 Körperbestattungen - mehr als die Hälfte der Körper waren SO-NW orientiert und die überwiegende Mehrheit in linker Hockerlage bestattet − werden durch 14C-Datierungen und Isotopen-Analysen ergänzt.

The date ot the Mausoleum can be fixed accumulative between 310 and 280/70 BC and following the interpretation of references regarding the monument`s dedication and the sources for the historical events Antigonos I. Monophthalmos is recognised as the newly identified personality to whom the Mausoleum belonged.

    Description: The second volume on the Austrian excavations of the years 1975-1980 on the acropolis of Aigeira aims at a reconstruction of the post-palatial Mycenaean settlement, based on stratigraphy and findings. Spatial analyses were executed on the basis of distribution patterns of installations as well as small finds, pithoi and pottery in situ showing a settlement consisting of households based on family structures which are characterized by storage, production of goods and feasting. Furthermore, the social grade of the inhabitants is underlined by a cult room as well as a fortification evident for a late phase of the settlement.
