    Description: "The Politics of Trauma and Integrity uses the lenses of gender and trauma to tell the stories of narratives testified by two contrasting Japanese “comfort women” survivors. Through an innovative interdisciplinary study of the politics of gendered memory and trauma in historical context, with numerous primary sources for analysis including diaries, interviews, letters and oral testimonies, this book uncovers the life-or-death struggles of Japanese survivors in pursuit of public recognition as the victims of state violence against women. It is set within a gender history of modern Japan, supplemented by feminist activist methodology premised upon political agency that seeks social justice. The author’s analysis draws upon three key concepts: trauma, coherence of the self, and integrity. Focusing upon the role of gender and trauma as the nexus between memory construction and identity formation in modern Japan, the author reveals these women’s relentless quest for their recovery and creation of new identities. This book provides a better understanding of the victims of sexual violence and encourages readers to listen to the voice of trauma, as well as making a significant contribution to the existing research on the ongoing history of sexual violence against women in Japan, the rest of Asia and beyond. It will be of interest to scholars, researchers, activists and all who are interested in the issue of women’s human rights. It provides supplementary reading and research material for history and politics courses relating to Japan and East Asia, memory, identity, trauma, gender, war and feminist activism. In fact, the disciplines of drawing have always been confronted with themes and issues relating to transitions from one condition to another. The history of representation tells us of transformations, even epochal ones, relating to ‘drawing’, with all that such transitions entail: suffice it to think of the evolution of forms of representation, of instrumental apparatuses, of the mutability of supports, of the analogical-digital transition underway, of the new modes of communication on platforms, of the hypertrophic offer of images also on the net that confirms Guy Debord’s intuitions relating to the new spectacularisation of society. Similarly, representation triggers transitions in the prefiguration and communication of design, the anticipation and foreshadowing of future events.The challenges posed by the digital pose open questions whose scope can only be glimpsed, such as the relationship between drawing and the act of modelling, and the construction of new paradigms of visual language and communication. ‘Transitions’, almost implicitly, points to possible futures, the evolution of technique and the search for new modes of expression; at the same time, however, it can suggest silences and reflections in a process of connection between history, theory, criticism and construction.

    Description: In view of the challenges—many of which are political—that different European countries are currently facing, scholars who work on the 18th century have compiled this anthology which includes earlier recognitions of common values and past considerations of questions which often remain pertinent nowadays. During the Enlightenment, many men and women of letters envisaged the continent’s future in particular when stressing their hope that peace could be secured in Europe. The texts gathered here, and signed by major thinkers of the time (Rousseau, Montesquieu, Voltaire, Kant, Hume or Staël for instance), as well as by writers history has forgotten, present the reflections, with a couple of chronological extensions (from Sully to Victor Hugo) of authors from the long eighteenth century—the French Empire and the fall of Napoleon generated numerous upheavals—on Europe, its history, its diversity, but also on what the nations, which, in all their diversity, make up a geographical unit, have in common. They show the historical origins of the project of a European union, the desire to consolidate the continent’s ties to the Maghreb or to Turkey, the importance granted to commerce and the worries engendered by history’s convulsions, but also the hope vested in future generations."

    Description: Cet ouvrage collectif naît d’abord d’un contexte. À une époque où les crises s’enchaînent au point de paraître permanentes, les législations d’urgence et les mesures dérogatoires connaissent une expansion telle que l’exception semble devenir la règle. Pourtant, le concept même d’état d’exception ne va pas de soi et alimente, dans le champ académique, de nombreux débats. Ne masque-t-il pas, derrière le sentiment partagé de quitter un monde politique et constitutionnel stabilisé, des situations juridiques très différentes ? Ce faisant, ne nous rend-il pas, paradoxalement, impuissants à penser le monde qui vient ? Les textes rassemblés ici proposent d’élargir ces réflexions en les réinscrivant dans une perspective historique longue. Ils présentent un vaste répertoire des formes historiques de « l’exceptionnalité », depuis l’institution romaine de la dictature jusqu’à l’état d’urgence contemporain, en tenant compte des normes et des pratiques juridico-politiques, mais aussi des concepts qui leur ont été associés. Au fil d’un dialogue entre histoire et philosophie, l’ouvrage s’ouvre à d’autres disciplines et aux réflexions transversales qui ont accompagné ces concepts.     Description: Continuing the tradition of L’Afrique des grands lacs. Annuaire, this companion volume to Conjonctures de l’Afrique centrale (Paris, L’Harmattan) offers a survey of political developments in Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda and Uganda throughout 2019. In Burundi, the year has been marked by the run-up to the 2020 elections. President Nkurunziza announced he would not stand for another term, which could make the contest more open. However, the opposition inside and outside the country remained weak, and political space continued to be constrained. The DRC has been marked by the search for a viable cohabitation between President Tshisekedi’s Cap pour le changement (CACH) and his predecessor Joseph Kabila’s Front commun pour le Congo (FCC). Despite some incidents between these political platforms, the two men have avoided institutional stalemate, but Tshisekedi’s room for manoeuvre has proved limited. Insecurity in the east of the country continues to claim many civilian lives. Rwanda was marked by business as usual, with an autocratic regime suppressing dissident voices and committing considerable human rights abuses. However, technocratic governance remains good. Uganda is gearing up for elections in 2021, and President Museveni will stand for a sixth term, and possibly for a presidency for life. Faced with resistance, the regime is attempting to remain in control, and is doing so heavy-handedly. At the regional level, relations between the DRC and Rwanda have improved, but those between Rwanda on the one hand, and Burundi and Uganda on the other, have remained hostile and marred by serious incidents.

Comunidades y autonomías Pilar Calveiro no se centra en las características del neoliberalismo sino, como su nombre lo indica, en la posibilidad y la potencia de las resistencias comunitarias. Para ello retoma la discusión sobre los rasgos violentos y autoritarios del neoliberalis mo, desarrollados en textos anteriores, enfatizando ahora en la conformación de redes de poder que rebasan al aparato estatal. Ello obliga a desplazar el foco de análisis, del Estado y sus responsabilidades directas o indirectas, a la gubernamentalidad neoliberal, como una trama más densa y compleja. Se trata de observar la articulación de las redes de poder legal/ilegales y público/privadas que, en el neoliberalismo, ejecutan diversas violencias orientadas a desarrollar verdaderas políticas del miedo.

    Description: Among the literature aimed at students of art science and other image-interpreting sciences are a number of texts that deal with theories and theoretical concepts. However, what is largely missing, and which students often call for, are texts in Swedish that show how theories and concepts can be applied in concrete interpretation situations. The series Theoretical applications in art science aims to fill that gap, with the book Materiality being the fourth in the series. The book introduces and activates a concept that in recent decades has come to take an increasingly important place in humanistic research. Art scholars - but also archaeologists, anthropologists, literary scholars, ethnologists and other humanistic researchers - are increasingly interested in the material conditions for, and the manifestations of, people's social and cultural life and exchange. But despite its topicality in today's scientific conversation, the concept of materiality can seem elusive and elusive. It moves all the way from the most tangible analyzes of the material components of a cultural artefact, to the somewhat impenetrable theorizations of objectivity, agents and networks that are usually sorted under the label ""new materialism"". However, the book Materialitet gives concrete examples of how the concept of materiality can open up interpretations of important layers of meaning in works of art and other cultural artifacts. After the initial introduction where different perspectives and conceptualisations of materiality are discussed, six researchers each do their own analysis based on their subject area. The chapters are based on new research and are written specifically for this book. The different chapters together show the multifaceted nature of the concept of materiality, but do not lock it down to a definition, but open the eyes to a number of different interpretive paths.

Through an innovative interdisciplinary study of the politics of gendered memory and trauma in historical context, with numerous primary sources for analysis including diaries, interviews, letters and oral testimonies, this book uncovers the life-or-death struggles of Japanese survivors in pursuit of public recognition as the victims of state violence against women. It is set within a gender history of modern Japan, supplemented by feminist activist methodology premised upon political agency that seeks social justice. The author’s analysis draws upon three key concepts: trauma, coherence of the self, and integrity. Focusing upon the role of gender and trauma as the nexus between memory construction and identity formation in modern Japan, the author reveals these women’s relentless quest for their recovery and creation of new identities. Definitivamente, la coyuntura es ideal para debatir el tema del VIH y quien mejor que los, las y les activistas de nuestra región para hablarnos de la desesperación y el ostracismo padecido. Pero también, para que nos cuenten cómo a pesar de los estigmas y de las limitaciones, lograron buscar soluciones, se reunieron, organizaron y crearon un mejor futuro para las nuevas generaciones.

Que sont et que font les émotions en politique ? Vingt-sept coauteurs sont ici réunis pour en débattre, en proposer les illustrations, les limites, les orientations disciplinaires. Volontairement courts et centrés sur leur thèse principale, les vingt-deux chapitres sont répartis en trois dimensions. La première traite des émotions au prisme du politique, autour d’événements et de territoires. La deuxième envisage le politique au risque des émotions, où elles sont clairement associées à des dispositifs de sensibilisation ou émergeant, de façon plus inattendue, d’univers qu’on aurait pu croire ceux de la répression de tout sentiment. La troisième se veut un carrefour disciplinaire, où sont explicités les enjeux de méthode et les perspectives d’échange.

    Description: Si l'actualité des assemblées citoyennes est relativement récente en France, avec la Convention citoyenne pour le climat, cette technique s'appuie sur de nombreuses et anciennes expériences dans d'autres États. L'étude de ces assemblées a également fait l'objet de nombreux travaux issus de la science politique en France comme à l'étranger. Les juristes demeurent, encore aujourd'hui, largement étrangers à cette réflexion, aussi bien dans sa dimension pratique, l'étude de la pratique des assemblées citoyennes, que dans sa dimension théorique, sous l'angle de l'étude des concepts de démocratie délibérative et de démocratie participative.     Description: Annoncée en France en 1998 sous impulsion européenne, la lutte contre les discriminations raciales n’a jamais été véritablement portée par un gouvernement. L’ouvrage analyse, à différentes échelles d’intervention, les processus multiples de refoulement de la discrimination ethno-raciale : la dilution et l’euphémisation du problème pour en extraire sa dimension ethno-raciale, l’éviction du débat politique par des instruments consensuels, enfin la délégation de l’action à des experts et aux territoires. S’appuyant sur un matériau empirique dense, l’auteure examine, dans un second temps, la fabrique de la lutte contre les discriminations ethno-raciales dans une ville. Dans ce contexte de fortes dénégations, l’action publique locale se trouve limitée et incertaine. L’analyse des usages du droit de la non-discrimination montre que la loi, fortement concurrencée, fonctionne davantage comme une contrainte à gérer que comme un idéal à atteindre. L’action tente aussi de s’allier les minoritaires, mais contrairement aux discours sur l’abus de l’argument victimaire, ceux-ci sont peu enclins à protester publiquement contre les épreuves qu’ils vivent. Alors que les enquêtes ne cessent de confirmer la réalité de ces discriminations, ce livre, issu d’une thèse, offre des clés de lecture pour la recherche et pour l’action.

    Description: Qu’est-ce qu’être parent aujourd’hui ? À partir d’une importante enquête qualitative auprès de familles, diverses du point de vue de leur configuration et de leur origine sociale et géographique, et de divers professionnels de la petite enfance, notre ouvrage montre que les familles sont loin de rester passives face à l’imposition de règles de conduite d’une « bonne parentalité ». Elles interprètent différemment les normes, se les approprient, les rejettent ou s’y adaptent sur la base de compromis négociés avec les institutions et les professionnels de la petite enfance. Il est remarquable que le travail permanent exercé sur les normes familiales ne soit pas linéaire et aboutisse à la coexistence d’une pluralité de conceptions de la « bonne parentalité », plus ou moins innovantes, contestataires ou traditionnelles. Ce qui frappe aujourd’hui est cet enchevêtrement de normes traditionnelles résistantes, de normes contestées et négociées et de nouvelles normes inventées qui transforment les référentiels de la famille moderne. Plus qu’au déclin de l’institution familiale, souvent déploré dans le discours public et relayé par les spécialistes de l’enfance ou les observateurs de la vie sociale, notre enquête nous a confrontées à un processus permanent d’institutionnalisation de la famille tant par sa contestation des normes en place que par sa volonté d’inventer de nouvelles façons de « faire famille ».

Esta matriz se ha reforzado en lo económico, actualizando la antigua alianza tecno-militar en la composición de los gobiernos en cargos claves (Brasil, Paraguay y Colombia), al tiempo que se refuerza el imaginario del Estado emprendedor, ahora conducido sin mediaciones y en forma directa por empresarios.

    Description: La Política Pública Distrital de Ruralidad (PPDR), formulada para la ciudad de Bogotá (Colombia) en 2006, fue concebida como una herramienta de gestión para el ordenamiento ambiental sostenible del territorio y la superación de la exclusión de la población, desde un enfoque de desarrollo humano. Se presenta aquí el proceso y resultados de un estudio de caso que tuvo como propósito analizar, desde dicho enfoque, la implementación de la ppdr para aportar a la compresión de los obstáculos, aciertos y nuevos retos de la inclusión del desarrollo humano en las políticas públicas ambientales. El estudio se centró en las acciones de tipo ambiental reportadas por las entidades públicas distritales, correspondientes a los periodos de gobierno 2008-2011 “Bogotá Positiva: Para Vivir Mejor” y 2012-2015 “Bogotá Humana”. El análisis de las acciones implementadas en el marco de la ppdr, evidenció que ésta ha aportado al avance en términos de desarrollo humano en la ruralidad, lo que demuestra la relevancia de generar políticas que, enfocadas en la protección de la naturaleza, promuevan a la vez el desarrollo social y económico de las poblaciones que viven en contacto directo con la misma, integrando plenamente las cuestiones de equidad en las políticas ambientales.

En s’appuyant sur des interviews avec des journalistes de premier plan et sur les analyses d’un vaste échantillon d’informations tirées de la presse papier et de la télévision depuis les années 1970, Rodney Benson montre comment le débat sur l’immigration s’est progressivement focalisé sur les cadres spectaculaires et chargés d’émotion de l’humanitarisme et de l’ordre public.     Description: En el marco de intensos cambios políticos y económicos, el salto de siglo trajo a Latinoamérica nuevas orientaciones en la gestión y negociación de las políticas sociales, además de consensos y conflictos en torno a las mismas. Sin abandonar del todo las medidas de corte liberal recomendadas por el Consenso de Washington, buena parte de los gobiernos de la región incluyeron en sus agendas objetivos de corte universalista, junto con la implementación de un conjunto de transformaciones (heterogéneas) que mantienen, consolidan o modifican procesos iniciados en los años ochenta del siglo pasado. Partiendo de este contexto, la presente obra colectiva del Grupo de Trabajo sobre Pobreza y Políticas Sociales de CLACSO, condensa sus preocupaciones sobre los retos que enfrenta América Latina para enfrentar los niveles de exclusión social que la caracterizan, a la vez que ensaya explicaciones sobre la incidencia de los ciclos económicos y políticos que afectan permanentemente su patrón de distribución de la riqueza, e instituyen una lógica de avance y retroceso que bloquea la instalación de adecuadas estrategias de bienestar, con capacidad para atender los principales riesgos sociales y reducir la desigualdad. El análisis de esta compleja e histórica problemática, contextualizada en los primeros quince años del siglo XXI, ofrece la oportunidad de identificar las distintas orientaciones políticas de los gobiernos de turno y sus dilemas.

    Description: El presente libro es el resultado del más reciente esfuerzo colectivo del grupo de trabajo de Clacso "Economías alternativas y Buen Vivir". El grupo de trabajo tiene como objetivo central el análisis y apoyo de las experiencias de solidaridad económica en América Latina, decantándose por la exploración de los alcances y límites que tales procesos suponen para las comunidades locales y los movimientos sociales. Con esto se busca dar continuidad a los procesos investigativos y formativos que este grupo de trabajo desarrolló desde su puesta en marcha de esta investigación colectiva dentro de Clacso en los años 2011 y 2013.     Description: La défaite électorale est un phénomène structurant de la vie politique démocratique. Rares sont les hommes politiques à ne jamais y avoir été confrontés, soit directement en tant que candidats, soit indirectement en tant que militants, collaborateurs ou membres d’un comité de campagne. Cet ouvrage propose une plongée du côté de ces battus des élections, qui, éclipsés par les glorieux vainqueurs, n’ont jusqu’à présent suscité qu’un intérêt de recherche réduit. En réunissant des contributions empiriquement fondées sur des expériences variées de défaites électorales, dans différents contextes historiques, géographiques et politiques, il se donne pour objectif de mieux saisir les enjeux symboliques et matériels de la défaite aux niveaux individuel et collectif. Trois angles d’analyse complémentaires sont plus particulièrement explorés par les auteurs : le premier centré sur la production du verdict de défaite, le deuxième sur les potentielles bifurcations biographiques des battus et enfin le troisième sur les appropriations partisanes de la défaite. Les études de la défaite « au concret » ici réunies ouvrent ainsi des pistes de recherche originales pour interroger de manière novatrice les processus de (dé)construction des carrières politiques, d’engagement et de désengagement politique, de transformation des milieux partisans ou encore de définition des règles de la compétition électorale.

    Description: En el ámbito estrictamente programático cada uno de los proyectos emancipatorios que hoy se citan en la arena político-intelectual (el del pensamiento decolonial, el de la profundización del Estado Democrático de Derecho o el del Socialismo) asume conceptualizaciones, a menudo inmanentes, de modernidad y colonialismo que resultan internamente problemáticas. Del mismo modo, parecen contradictorias las formas principales de conceptualización de la dupla modernidad/colonialismo entre los diversos proyectos. Todo ello hace imperativo explorar el alcance, los límites y las posibilidades de síntesis entre estas diversas aproximaciones. El análisis de las tensiones entre modernidad y colonialismo contribuye, sin duda, al examen de los méritos y problemas de cada uno de estos programas emancipatorios. Por una parte, la modernidad misma es disecada conceptualmente según las aspiraciones y compromisos de cada programa emancipador. Por otra, el colonialismo, dibujado en sus versiones economicistas, culturalistas, políticas, localistas o globalistas, o en mezclas matizadas, dependiendo del género emancipatorio que sostenga el pincel, parece indicar sentidos distintos a la resistencia y a las luchas sociales. El análisis de las tensiones entre modernidad y colonialismo ofrece así un espacio inigualable para pensar los alcances y problemas de cada una de estas formas de pensamiento emancipatorio latinoamericano.

La comparaison couvre cinq organisations parties prenantes des luttes les plus emblématiques du mouvement environnemental en France (de la cause anti-nucléaire à la défense de la Loire) et représentant ses différentes tendances (écologiste et de conservation) : les Amis de la Terre, France Nature Environnement, Greenpeace, la Ligue de protection des oiseaux et le WWF France. Conformément à une perspective pragmatiste, l’approche organisationnelle développée ici explique leurs différences en étudiant les compétences distinctes qu’elles construisent au travers de pressions internes (celles des membres qui les animent) et externes (celles exprimées ou perçues des publics auxquels elles s’adressent).     Description: L’émergence, dans tous les pays européens, de nouveaux partis politiques ayant pour objectif de représenter soit des groupes sociaux ou géographiques spécifiques, soit des intérêts particuliers, ainsi que la création, dans certains États membres de la Communauté européenne, de partis dont le programme consiste pour l’essentiel à prendre position en faveur ou en défaveur de l’intégration, conduisent à une double interrogation. D’une part, ces nouvelles formations politiques affectent-elles le système de partis caractéristique des différents pays dans lesquels elles font leur apparition ? D’autre part, pour quelles raisons des revendications s’apparentant globalement à celles que soutiennent habituellement les groupes d’intérêt s’expriment-elles par le truchement de partis qui, contrairement aux partis traditionnels à vocation universaliste, se limitent à défendre une cause particulière ? La comparaison entre différents pays d’Europe dans lesquels la multiplication de ces types de partis est observable, tout comme l’analyse des raisons expliquant l’absence d’un tel phénonème aux États- Unis ne permettent pas à elles seules de répondre à ces questions. D’où la nécessité de faire non seulement retour à l’histoire de l’insitutionnalisation des partis à la fin du xixe siècle, mais aussi aux théories s’intéressant, pour les unes, aux fondements du pouvoir des partis politiques et, pour les autres, à la manière dont les logiques communautaire et universaliste peuvent se combiner au sein d’une même organisation.

    Description: La « méthode Monnet » de construction européenne serait-elle en voie de s'épuiser ? De nombreux indices le donnent à penser. Après l'achèvement du marché intérieur, et face aux défis que constituent la fin de la guerre froide, la mondialisation et l'élargissement, l'Union européenne est en quête d'une nouvelle méthode d'intégration. Les grandes politiques lancées par les traités de Maastricht et Amsterdam (Union économique et monétaire, politique étrangère, sécurité intérieure, politiques sociales) reposent de plus en plus sur une « coopération ouverte » entre gouvernements, où les institutions communautaires peinent à trouver leurs marques. Élargie dans sa taille et dans ses objectifs, l'Union se repose davantage, pour la conception et la mise en œuvre de ses politiques, sur les gouvernements nationaux et les entités régionales. Le temps des grands engagements semble, lui aussi, révolu. Les conférences intergouvernementales se succèdent désormais à un rythme soutenu, davantage pour corriger les traités que pour lancer de nouveaux projets de grande ampleur. La construction de l'Europe connaît ainsi une « grande transformation », qui impose de réfléchir au nouveau modèle qui se dessine, à la fois plus ambitieux dans ses objectifs et plus modeste dans ses moyens, plus large dans son étendue géographique et plus décentralisé. Le second volume de cette étude est consacré aux politiques internes et externes de l'Union. Les auteurs y analysent les mutations profondes du modèle socio-économique dues au passage de l'approche redistributive à l'approche régulatrice. Ils soulèvent aussi les dilemmes et les options de l'identité extérieure de l'Union, dont l'évolution se trouve à un tournant. Derrière ces transformations, ce sont les questions de la politisation et de la « nouvelle identité » de l'Europe qui se trouvent posées.

The history of representation tells us of transformations, even epochal ones, relating to ‘drawing’, with all that such transitions entail: suffice it to think of the evolution of forms of representation, of instrumental apparatuses, of the mutability of supports, of the analogical-digital transition underway, of the new modes of communication on platforms, of the hypertrophic offer of images also on the net that confirms Guy Debord’s intuitions relating to the new spectacularisation of society. Similarly, representation triggers transitions in the prefiguration and communication of design, the anticipation and foreshadowing of future events.The challenges posed by the digital pose open questions whose scope can only be glimpsed, such as the relationship between drawing and the act of modelling, and the construction of new paradigms of visual language and communication. ‘Transitions’, almost implicitly, points to possible futures, the evolution of technique and the search for new modes of expression; at the same time, however, it can suggest silences and reflections in a process of connection between history, theory, criticism and construction.

    Description: The volume, dedicated to the 44th International Conference of the Italian Union for Drawing, investigates the theme of ‘Transitions’, which particularly effectively represents our time and the current condition of the discipline of Drawing. The term, beyond its generic meaning of an intermediate stage in a process in which a condition changes from one state to another, has always been used in various fields, from music to geophysics. In fact, the disciplines of drawing have always been confronted with themes and issues relating to transitions from one condition to another.
