    Description: "The Politics of Trauma and Integrity uses the lenses of gender and trauma to tell the stories of narratives testified by two contrasting Japanese “comfort women” survivors. Through an innovative interdisciplinary study of the politics of gendered memory and trauma in historical context, with numerous primary sources for analysis including diaries, interviews, letters and oral testimonies, this book uncovers the life-or-death struggles of Japanese survivors in pursuit of public recognition as the victims of state violence against women. It is set within a gender history of modern Japan, supplemented by feminist activist methodology premised upon political agency that seeks social justice. The author’s analysis draws upon three key concepts: trauma, coherence of the self, and integrity. Focusing upon the role of gender and trauma as the nexus between memory construction and identity formation in modern Japan, the author reveals these women’s relentless quest for their recovery and creation of new identities. This book provides a better understanding of the victims of sexual violence and encourages readers to listen to the voice of trauma, as well as making a significant contribution to the existing research on the ongoing history of sexual violence against women in Japan, the rest of Asia and beyond. It will be of interest to scholars, researchers, activists and all who are interested in the issue of women’s human rights. It provides supplementary reading and research material for history and politics courses relating to Japan and East Asia, memory, identity, trauma, gender, war and feminist activism. The term, beyond its generic meaning of an intermediate stage in a process in which a condition changes from one state to another, has always been used in various fields, from music to geophysics. In fact, the disciplines of drawing have always been confronted with themes and issues relating to transitions from one condition to another. The history of representation tells us of transformations, even epochal ones, relating to ‘drawing’, with all that such transitions entail: suffice it to think of the evolution of forms of representation, of instrumental apparatuses, of the mutability of supports, of the analogical-digital transition underway, of the new modes of communication on platforms, of the hypertrophic offer of images also on the net that confirms Guy Debord’s intuitions relating to the new spectacularisation of society. Similarly, representation triggers transitions in the prefiguration and communication of design, the anticipation and foreshadowing of future events.The challenges posed by the digital pose open questions whose scope can only be glimpsed, such as the relationship between drawing and the act of modelling, and the construction of new paradigms of visual language and communication. ‘Transitions’, almost implicitly, points to possible futures, the evolution of technique and the search for new modes of expression; at the same time, however, it can suggest silences and reflections in a process of connection between history, theory, criticism and construction.

    Description: In view of the challenges—many of which are political—that different European countries are currently facing, scholars who work on the 18th century have compiled this anthology which includes earlier recognitions of common values and past considerations of questions which often remain pertinent nowadays. During the Enlightenment, many men and women of letters envisaged the continent’s future in particular when stressing their hope that peace could be secured in Europe. The texts gathered here, and signed by major thinkers of the time (Rousseau, Montesquieu, Voltaire, Kant, Hume or Staël for instance), as well as by writers history has forgotten, present the reflections, with a couple of chronological extensions (from Sully to Victor Hugo) of authors from the long eighteenth century—the French Empire and the fall of Napoleon generated numerous upheavals—on Europe, its history, its diversity, but also on what the nations, which, in all their diversity, make up a geographical unit, have in common. They show the historical origins of the project of a European union, the desire to consolidate the continent’s ties to the Maghreb or to Turkey, the importance granted to commerce and the worries engendered by history’s convulsions, but also the hope vested in future generations."

Il lui impose un monde étranger à son lectorat bourgeois et fort peu exploré en tamoul avant lui, celui d’un ‘prolétariat’ urbain grouillant de vie. Sans jamais sombrer dans le misérabilisme ni dans l’idéologie progressiste des intellectuels militants qu’il a fréquentés d’abord, il anticipe brillamment d'une génération sur l’explosion globale des littératures ‘dalit’ mais sans pour autant être intégré à celles-ci. Seul, ignoré ou admiré, il reste largement à découvrir. Son œuvre de fiction, ni réaliste ni populiste, est d’une précision clinique. Le talent de l’écrivain, très conscient mais rebelle à toute théorisation, consiste à peindre en l'éclairant de la lumière la plus crue, sous des angles variés mais toujours impitoyables, la société dans laquelle il situe une action exorcisée de toute métaphysique comme de tout misérabilisme, imperméable à toute sensiblerie, une vision du monde à travers ses soubassements. C’est par en-dessous qu’il en lait découvrir les mécanismes, intéressé par les manipulateurs de tous calibres, petits truqueurs ou ‘brokers’ parvenus, autant et plus que par leurs victimes, fasciné par la complexité des comportements humains et de leur enchaînement.

    Description: Este volumen de la colección Fuentes presenta la edición de un manual de confesión escrito en Castilla en la segunda mitad del siglo XV, actualmente conservado en los fondos de la biblioteca de la Real Academia de la Historia de Madrid. El códice, compuesto por varios textos o fragmentos de textos, redactados algunos de ellos en lengua vernácula y otros en latín, es un valioso testimonio de la difusión y de la circulación de este tipo de opúsculos destinados a los confesores obligados, a partir del Concilio de Letrán IV (1215), a administrar al menos una vez al año el sacramento de penitencia. Su originalidad radica en el examen de conciencia ad status que presenta en su parte central. El estudio del manuscrito permite demostrar que se trata, al menos en parte, de un compendio de la importante suma escrita por Martín Pérez en 1316, el Libro de las confesiones. La edición del códice está precedida por un minucioso análisis de su contenido y de los procedimientos de abreviación, y propone algunas hipótesis acerca de los motivos que pudieron suscitar su realización.     Description: La modernisation au Brésil se confond avec la constitution du pays. La forme qu'elle y assume se dessine de façon décisive au moment même de l'indépendance en 1822 et se reproduit en temps que modernisation conservatrice tout au long des deux siècles suivants. C'est ainsi qu'elle donne le sentiment d'osciller entre un changement qui ne respecte que peu de limites et la persistance du passé. Cette modernisation à la fois vertigineuse et toujours incomplète a souvent été dramatique, faisant parfois disparaître les marques qui auraient permis de l'évaluer. La conscience culturelle perd alors pied lorsque l'on envisage la portée et le sens des transformations qui l'affectent. La meilleure littérature brésilienne n'a jamais cessé de travailler ces formes contradictoires. C'est sous cet angle que les examinent deux équipes française et brésilienne, dans le cadre d'un accord Usp-Cofecub, en essayant de mettre en lumière les rapports qui s'établissent entre la forme littéraire et le processus social. Elles se sont concentrées sur certains moments où ce rythme particulier se donne à voir avec plus de netteté : le début de la République, l'immigration et l'industrialisation des années 20 puis les transformations post-1945. Trois axes thématiques ordonnent la quinzaine d'études contenues dans le présent volume : regards sur la ville, écriture et idéologie, lyrique et modernité.

    Description: Comment se dire dans son temps quand l'histoire invente l'individu en même temps qu'elle le malmène ? De Waterloo aux Mémoires d'outre-tombe, la publication de mémoires est un phénomène éditorial qui fait parler à l'époque de « fièvre » ou de « manie ». Parmi ces textes, seul le grand œuvre de Chateaubriand aurait eu la grâce, sanctionnée par une postérité toujours active, de transformer en or littéraire le modèle d'écriture pratiqué dans le tout-venant des mémoires. Les moins mal connus de ces derniers sont les mémoires de Fouché, de la duchesse d'Abrantès, de madame de Genlis et les Mémoires d'une Contemporaine. Le succès de ces textes en leur temps n'a d'égal que l'oubli dans lequel ils sont rapidement tombés, dès la seconde moitié du xixe siècle : victimes du divorce, consommé à ce moment-là, entre histoire et littérature. Occulté depuis plus d'un siècle, l'énorme corpus de la mémoire historique publiée entre 1815 et 1848 existe comme un continent englouti. Le mettre au jour, c'est non seulement ressusciter une bonne part du discours de l'époque, mais plus encore observer comment ont été amenés à se rencontrer et donc à se réinventer les modèles de l'expression de soi et de l'histoire. La prose des mémoires est comme un laboratoire où, dans les conditions d'existence nouvelles créées par la Révolution, l'écriture de soi, celle de l'histoire et aussi celle du roman se découvrent partie liée.

The term, beyond its generic meaning of an intermediate stage in a process in which a condition changes from one state to another, has always been used in various fields, from music to geophysics. In fact, the disciplines of drawing have always been confronted with themes and issues relating to transitions from one condition to another. The history of representation tells us of transformations, even epochal ones, relating to ‘drawing’, with all that such transitions entail: suffice it to think of the evolution of forms of representation, of instrumental apparatuses, of the mutability of supports, of the analogical-digital transition underway, of the new modes of communication on platforms, of the hypertrophic offer of images also on the net that confirms Guy Debord’s intuitions relating to the new spectacularisation of society. Similarly, representation triggers transitions in the prefiguration and communication of design, the anticipation and foreshadowing of future events.The challenges posed by the digital pose open questions whose scope can only be glimpsed, such as the relationship between drawing and the act of modelling, and the construction of new paradigms of visual language and communication. ‘Transitions’, almost implicitly, points to possible futures, the evolution of technique and the search for new modes of expression; at the same time, however, it can suggest silences and reflections in a process of connection between history, theory, criticism and construction.

Au cours de véritables bacchanales théâtrales et linguistiques, ces auteurs mêlent les figures carnavalesques, christiques et dionysiaques comme conjuration du théâtre mortifère de la scène franquiste où les cérémonials se succèdent : cérémonials de l'auto-glorification de l'autocrate, défilés commémoratifs (18 juillet), cérémonials sacrificiels (répression, torture, exécutions), scénographies urbaines et monumentales grandioses. Défini tantôt comme théâtre underground, tantôt comme théâtre « symboliste », il est surtout un théâtre rituel grotesque néobaroque au ton blasphématoire et à l'esprit d'insolence et de désobéissance. Sont étudiés ici les univers dramaturgiques de quatre de ces auteurs qui participent à la fois de ces trois ordres esthético-politiques : Luis Riaza (1925), Francisco Nieva (1927), Antonio Martínez Ballesteros (1929) et Miguel Romero Esteo (1930).

Annuaire, this companion volume to Conjonctures de l’Afrique centrale (Paris, L’Harmattan) offers a survey of political developments in Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda and Uganda throughout 2019. In Burundi, the year has been marked by the run-up to the 2020 elections. President Nkurunziza announced he would not stand for another term, which could make the contest more open. However, the opposition inside and outside the country remained weak, and political space continued to be constrained. The DRC has been marked by the search for a viable cohabitation between President Tshisekedi’s Cap pour le changement (CACH) and his predecessor Joseph Kabila’s Front commun pour le Congo (FCC). Despite some incidents between these political platforms, the two men have avoided institutional stalemate, but Tshisekedi’s room for manoeuvre has proved limited. Insecurity in the east of the country continues to claim many civilian lives. Rwanda was marked by business as usual, with an autocratic regime suppressing dissident voices and committing considerable human rights abuses. However, technocratic governance remains good. Uganda is gearing up for elections in 2021, and President Museveni will stand for a sixth term, and possibly for a presidency for life. Faced with resistance, the regime is attempting to remain in control, and is doing so heavy-handedly. At the regional level, relations between the DRC and Rwanda have improved, but those between Rwanda on the one hand, and Burundi and Uganda on the other, have remained hostile and marred by serious incidents.

    Description: Ce manuscrit inédit a été rédigé par une jeune femme de 22 ans lorsqu’elle partit avec son époux à la rencontre du prétendant légitimiste, le comte de Chambord : elle traverse le royaume lombard-vénitien, alors sous la domination des Habsbourg, et séjourne assez longuement à Venise, puis elle rentre en France par l’Autriche et l’Allemagne. C’est un texte à l’écriture vive et enjouée, mariant avec bonheur récit, descriptions et anecdotes, et un document de tout premier intérêt pour la connaissance de la « bonne société » française du milieu du xixe siècle. L’annotation et le commentaire qui l’accompagnent mettent notamment en valeur ses éclairages sur l’histoire du couple (car la vogue des voyages de noces était alors très récente) et sur l’histoire des milieux monarchistes, avec leurs valeurs et leur sociabilité, mais ils insistent aussi sur l’écriture au féminin, à la fois écriture de soi et perception des pays visités.

Cette lecture critique des écrits et des usages de Foucault permet de le confronter aux analyses les plus récentes en sciences sociales, comme les postcolonial studies, ou de suivre les dialogues engagés (parfois à distance) avec des auteurs comme Norbert Elias, Michel de Certeau et Pierre Bourdieu. Similarly, representation triggers transitions in the prefiguration and communication of design, the anticipation and foreshadowing of future events.The challenges posed by the digital pose open questions whose scope can only be glimpsed, such as the relationship between drawing and the act of modelling, and the construction of new paradigms of visual language and communication. ‘Transitions’, almost implicitly, points to possible futures, the evolution of technique and the search for new modes of expression; at the same time, however, it can suggest silences and reflections in a process of connection between history, theory, criticism and construction.

    Description: « Qu’est ce que le Nouveau Roman ? » Ce livre pose qu’il n’est pas uniquement constitué par l’ensemble d’œuvres rangées sous cette étiquette, mais bien plus par les différents discours qui ont accompagné la production romanesque. Manifestes, entretiens, débats… ont peut-être plus fait pour imposer cette notion littéraire que les textes eux-mêmes, très novateurs certes, mais aussi très divers dans leurs enjeux et leurs pratiques. Bien que les « nouveaux romanciers » aient écrit des romans « nouveaux », ils ne sont en effet reconnus comme tels que par les commentaires que leurs œuvres suscitent, et par leurs propres prises de position. Aussi est-ce à ces textes décisifs et à leurs dispositifs énonciatifs que se consacre le présent ouvrage, plus particulièrement aux essais et interventions de Nathalie Sarraute et Alain Robbe-Grillet. Galia Yanoshevsky montre ainsi comment les discours s’emploient à fonder une esthétique et à lui donner corps au delà de la diversité des textes.

    Chapter Documenting Theatres as Spaces for ‘Transitions’ (2024)

    Description: The volume, dedicated to the 44th International Conference of the Italian Union for Drawing, investigates the theme of ‘Transitions’, which particularly effectively represents our time and the current condition of the discipline of Drawing. The term, beyond its generic meaning of an intermediate stage in a process in which a condition changes from one state to another, has always been used in various fields, from music to geophysics. In fact, the disciplines of drawing have always been confronted with themes and issues relating to transitions from one condition to another. The history of representation tells us of transformations, even epochal ones, relating to ‘drawing’, with all that such transitions entail: suffice it to think of the evolution of forms of representation, of instrumental apparatuses, of the mutability of supports, of the analogical-digital transition underway, of the new modes of communication on platforms, of the hypertrophic offer of images also on the net that confirms Guy Debord’s intuitions relating to the new spectacularisation of society. Similarly, representation triggers transitions in the prefiguration and communication of design, the anticipation and foreshadowing of future events.The challenges posed by the digital pose open questions whose scope can only be glimpsed, such as the relationship between drawing and the act of modelling, and the construction of new paradigms of visual language and communication. ‘Transitions’, almost implicitly, points to possible futures, the evolution of technique and the search for new modes of expression; at the same time, however, it can suggest silences and reflections in a process of connection between history, theory, criticism and construction.

    Description: En el Tractado del origen de los reyes de Granada -dirigido a Isabel la Católica y atribuido al historiógrafo de la reina, Fernando de Pulgar- el autor relata la historia del emirato de Granada desde sus orígenes hasta su caída ocurrida el 2 de enero de 1492. Sin embargo, la obra no fue escrita por Fernando de Pulgar a finales del siglo XV: se trata de una crónica promovida por la familia morisca granadina Granada Venegas entre los años 1575-1579 y 1602. El Tractado del origen de los reyes de Granada fue reproducido en nueve manuscritos -conservados en España, Portugal y Argentina- cuyo contenido no es uniforme. Así se distinguen tres versiones: mayoritaria, mayoritaria amplificada y minoritaria. Se propone a los lectores la edición crítica de la versión minoritaria, conocida gracias al manuscrito 150 de la Biblioteca de la Real Academia Española de Madrid.

    Description: Among the literature aimed at students of art science and other image-interpreting sciences are a number of texts that deal with theories and theoretical concepts. However, what is largely missing, and which students often call for, are texts in Swedish that show how theories and concepts can be applied in concrete interpretation situations. The series Theoretical applications in art science aims to fill that gap, with the book Materiality being the fourth in the series. The book introduces and activates a concept that in recent decades has come to take an increasingly important place in humanistic research. Art scholars - but also archaeologists, anthropologists, literary scholars, ethnologists and other humanistic researchers - are increasingly interested in the material conditions for, and the manifestations of, people's social and cultural life and exchange. But despite its topicality in today's scientific conversation, the concept of materiality can seem elusive and elusive. It moves all the way from the most tangible analyzes of the material components of a cultural artefact, to the somewhat impenetrable theorizations of objectivity, agents and networks that are usually sorted under the label ""new materialism"". However, the book Materialitet gives concrete examples of how the concept of materiality can open up interpretations of important layers of meaning in works of art and other cultural artifacts. After the initial introduction where different perspectives and conceptualisations of materiality are discussed, six researchers each do their own analysis based on their subject area. The chapters are based on new research and are written specifically for this book. The different chapters together show the multifaceted nature of the concept of materiality, but do not lock it down to a definition, but open the eyes to a number of different interpretive paths.

    Description: Né en 1927, Robert Jammes a été élève de l'École Normale Supérieure de la rue d'Ulm. Après quelques années passées dans les universités de Montpellier et de Grenoble, il s'est fixé à l'université de Toulouse-Le Mirail, où il a enseigné entre 1965 et 1987. In fact, the disciplines of drawing have always been confronted with themes and issues relating to transitions from one condition to another. The history of representation tells us of transformations, even epochal ones, relating to ‘drawing’, with all that such transitions entail: suffice it to think of the evolution of forms of representation, of instrumental apparatuses, of the mutability of supports, of the analogical-digital transition underway, of the new modes of communication on platforms, of the hypertrophic offer of images also on the net that confirms Guy Debord’s intuitions relating to the new spectacularisation of society. Similarly, representation triggers transitions in the prefiguration and communication of design, the anticipation and foreshadowing of future events.The challenges posed by the digital pose open questions whose scope can only be glimpsed, such as the relationship between drawing and the act of modelling, and the construction of new paradigms of visual language and communication. ‘Transitions’, almost implicitly, points to possible futures, the evolution of technique and the search for new modes of expression; at the same time, however, it can suggest silences and reflections in a process of connection between history, theory, criticism and construction.

    Description: The three concepts mentioned in the title of this volume imply the contact between two or more literary phenomena they are based on similarities that are related to a form of ‘travelling’ and imitation or adaptation of entire texts, genres, forms or contents. Transfer comprises all sorts of ‘travelling’, with translation as a major instrument of transferring literature across linguistic and cultural barriers. Transfer aims at the process of communication, starting with the source product and its cultural context and then highlighting the mediation by certain agents and institutions to end up with inclusion in the target culture. Reception lays its focus on the receiving culture, especially on critcism, reading, and interpretation. Translation, therefore, forms a major factor in reception with the general aim of reception studies being to reveal the wide spectrum of interpretations each text offers. Moreover, translations are the prime instrument in the distribution of literature across linguistic and cultural borders thus, they pave the way for gaining prestige in the world of literature. The thirty-eight papers included in this volume and dedicated to research in this area were previously read at the ICLA conference 2016 in Vienna. They are ample proof that the field remains at the center of interest in Comparative Literature.

    Description: Si l'Histoire a souvent mis face à face la Russie et l'Allemagne, cela n'a pas empêché l'établissement d'échanges culturels étroits et féconds entre les deux cultures. C'est la littérature, et plus précisément les textes qui rapprochent et réunissent les auteurs étudiés dans ce volume et c'est au nom de ce patrimoine commun que l'on peut parler « d'affinités électives » entre les deux littératures. Jeu avec le texte (ses constituants, ses personnages, ses métaphores) ou jeu autour du texte (son statut ou le nom de son auteur), citation, référence, allusion, plagiat ou hommage, le présent volume offre une vaste palette de possibilités intertextuelles. Trois cas de figures se dégagent cependant avec plus de netteté : le premier consiste à reprendre dans leur ensemble un mythe ou un substrat de pensée qui, insérés dans leur contexte d'accueil, prennent une tout autre résonance ; le deuxième consiste à emprunter certains éléments ponctuels. Enfin, il existe aussi des affinités plus diffuses, des parallèles souvent très frappants, pour lesquelles il est toutefois difficile de décider si elles sont le fruit d'une influence directe.

The Disposable Heroes Of Hiphoprisy et Einstürzende Neubauten se sont respectivement confrontés à des textes de Vladimir Maïakovski, Heiner Müller et William S. Burroughs. De tels processus d'adaptation entraînent une double "déterritorialisation" des textes puisque les mots changent à la fois de support et d’univers symbolique. De façon érosive et projective ils explorent de nouveaux lieux de communication littéraire et font vivre les textes en renouvelant leurs modes de fonctionnement et leurs publics. Loin de chercher à se substituer aux livres. Ces disques encouragent une écoute relationnelle : "distordus" par la musique. Les mots projettent alors un regard oblique sur les œuvres dont ils sont issus et nous invitent à mieux y (re)venir.

La seconde, par la volonté d’en cerner et d’en suivre les mécanismes, à l’épreuve de plusieurs disciplines, parmi lesquelles, dans le creuset qu’est la science politique, la sociologie, l’anthropologie, l’histoire, la musicologie, l’histoire de l’art. Que sont et que font les émotions en politique ? Vingt-sept coauteurs sont ici réunis pour en débattre, en proposer les illustrations, les limites, les orientations disciplinaires. Volontairement courts et centrés sur leur thèse principale, les vingt-deux chapitres sont répartis en trois dimensions. La première traite des émotions au prisme du politique, autour d’événements et de territoires. La deuxième envisage le politique au risque des émotions, où elles sont clairement associées à des dispositifs de sensibilisation ou émergeant, de façon plus inattendue, d’univers qu’on aurait pu croire ceux de la répression de tout sentiment. La troisième se veut un carrefour disciplinaire, où sont explicités les enjeux de méthode et les perspectives d’échange.

La science-fiction expérimente le temps en tant que concept : elle le manipule en tout sens pour briser son irréversibilité et tenter d’agir sur des destinées collectives ou individuelles. La temporalité fantastique est marquée par une obsession anxiogène et toxique du temps passé. Le mythe puise ses racines dans un temps immémorial, cyclique. Symbole de la créativité des littératures et du cinéma de l’imaginaire, le temps est au coeur de l’individu, de sa subjectivité, de sa mémoire et de son rapport au monde physique.

De ahí la finalidad del presente ensayo que se centra sucesivamente en: - los espacios de la ficción (aldea, Corte, ventas y mesones...); - las estructuras (estructura interna, segmentación, papel de la versificación); - la configuración dramática de los personajes del elenco entremesil (tipos, figuras, onomástica...); - la configuración escénica de los mismos (caracterización fónica, gestual, mímica, física, vestuario); - el espacio escenográfico (lugar escenográfico y escénico, teatralización de la convención escénica). Más de un centenar de piezas breves sirven como base para el establecimiento e ilustración de esta primera gramática de un género áureo fundamental.

    Description: Ce volume correspond au premier grand volet d’une action consacrée à la double question de la Violence et de l’identité. Le rapprochement de ces deux termes fait apparaître une problématique qui propose dans le domaine des sciences humaines un objet anthropologique riche de sens et qui intéresse à la fois des spécialistes de la littérature, des arts et de la langue, des sociologues, des historiens, des philosophes, des psychologues et des spécialistes de la rhétorique et de la communication. L’interaction de ces deux notions contient de multiples enjeux : philosophiques, psychologiques et sociologiques, idéologiques, politiques et institutionnels, esthétiques enfin. Le présent volume interroge toutes les dimensions de l’écriture violente et pas seulement au niveau de ses effets, il examine la tension de l’écriture de la violence entre exhiber et cacher, entre voiler et dénuder, il soulève plusieurs enjeux et de multiples questions. Les rapports violence et identité posent inévitablement des problèmes de rhétorique qui nous conduisent à nous interroger sur le discours de la violence, sur la construction d’une rhétorique et en même temps sur les limites de cette rhétorique. En même temps comment ne pas ressentir la rhétorique comme un piège, un écran à la sincérité ? Comment ne pas espérer revenir à un état brut, simple de la langue, sans contour et sans artifice ? La rhétorique, dans ces divers textes, on le verra, est rarement une fin en soi. Le discours ou le récit sont un moyen de communiquer la vérité subjective d’une expérience traumatique, sont un moyen de représenter le sujet victime de la violence dans son rapport avec l’Autre, visent à impliquer le lecteur en le dotant des éléments nécessaires pour voir, imaginer et penser la violence, fût-ce dans la déchirure de la représentation. Interroger ce discours c’est donc interroger aussi la violence dans ses fondements ontologiques. Se pencher sur la problématique « violence et écriture », c’est inévitablement s’interroger sur la violence comme mise en demeure de la langue.

    Description: Tout au long du xixe siècle, les femmes consacrèrent d'innombrables ouvrages de fiction à un jeune lectorat féminin. Assumant de la sorte les responsabilités éducatives qui leur étaient conférées, elles firent des écrits pour l'enfance et la jeunesse le domaine privilégié de l'activité littéraire féminine. Devoirs d'écriture est la première étude critique d'ensemble consacrée à ce pan d'une histoire littéraire méconnue qui mérite d'être abordée non seulement pour les liens qu'elle entretient avec l'histoire de l'éducation ou celle du livre et de la lecture, mais surtout pour ce qu'elle révèle d'une histoire des femmes qu'elle contribue à transformer. L'ouvrage rend compte des modes d'écriture les plus représentatifs de ce vaste corpus et, ce faisant, propose une réflexion sur les phénomènes de sexuation à l'œuvre dans une production littéraire à la fois normative et déstabilisatrice. Robinsonnades et des récits de voyages imaginaires révèlent la difficulté à maintenir les héroïnes dans les confins d'univers domestiques. Les récits à la première personne signalent la difficulté qu'il y a à faire parler la petite fille, et plus encore la jeune fille, sans invoquer des processus d'individuation qui vont à l'encontre des modèles prescrits du comportement des femmes et des filles. Par ailleurs, les contes ou petits romans témoignent de l'existence d'échappées ludiques et de projets esthétiques novateurs. Les romans, quant à eux, soumis à des fins édificatrices censées conjurer les dangers de la lecture, présentent aux lectrices des parcours de vie aux scénarios limités. Et pourtant, comme le montre l'analyse des romans de Zénaïde Fleuriot qui clôt cette étude, les méandres de la fiction au long cours mettent en lumière les paradoxes et les aspirations qui constituent les univers des femmes au xixe siècle. Si ces ouvrages de fiction offrent des modèles d'écriture prescriptifs, ils cultivent aussi le détachement critique dans des jeux de représentations dont Devoirs d'écriture souligne l'importance pour l'histoire des femmes au xixe siècle.

    Description: Relevant du genre de la campu (mélange de vers et de prose), l’ouvrage se présente comme un dialogue entre deux génies divins (gandharvas) qui, montés sur un char céleste, parcourent l’Inde du Nord au Sud. Tandis que l’un dénigre les cités, les habitants et les dieux, l’autre en souligne les qualités et les mérites. Reprenant le thème du voyage aérien (suivant le modèle du Meghadūta de Kālidāsa), le poème célèbre les principaux lieux saints de l’Inde, plus particulièrement du Tamil Nadu. Ce pélerinage peut se lire comme un hymne Śrīvaiṣṇava Veṅkaṭādhvarin fait l’éloge de ses maîtres spirituels, Rāmānuja et Vedāntadeśika, et de leur doctrine. Le dialogue abonde en figures variées, au premier rang desquelles le śleṣa ou double sens. Nombreuses sont aussi les formes de la comparaison sous leurs multiples dénominations.

In fact, the disciplines of drawing have always been confronted with themes and issues relating to transitions from one condition to another. The history of representation tells us of transformations, even epochal ones, relating to ‘drawing’, with all that such transitions entail: suffice it to think of the evolution of forms of representation, of instrumental apparatuses, of the mutability of supports, of the analogical-digital transition underway, of the new modes of communication on platforms, of the hypertrophic offer of images also on the net that confirms Guy Debord’s intuitions relating to the new spectacularisation of society. Similarly, representation triggers transitions in the prefiguration and communication of design, the anticipation and foreshadowing of future events.The challenges posed by the digital pose open questions whose scope can only be glimpsed, such as the relationship between drawing and the act of modelling, and the construction of new paradigms of visual language and communication. ‘Transitions’, almost implicitly, points to possible futures, the evolution of technique and the search for new modes of expression; at the same time, however, it can suggest silences and reflections in a process of connection between history, theory, criticism and construction.

L’Astrée mérite pourtant mieux, à coup sûr, que les raccourcis et les stéréotypes.     Description: L’avènement, au milieu des années 1980, d’un roman dit “impassible” a piqué l’attention de la critique qui a vu là l’émergence d’une littérature de l’ère du vide - l’expression nouvelle d’une manière d’être au monde légère et désabusée. Apparu aux éditions de Minuit, ce mouvement, dont Echenoz et Toussaint sont les plus dignes représentants, a semblé à beaucoup dans la descendance directe du nouveau roman mâtiné d’un zest de formalisme ludique. Chevillard, souvent rapproché d’Echenoz et Toussaint pour sa prose désinvolte et grave, a connu dans le même temps la faveur d’une critique exigeante qui a vu chez lui le triomphe de l’ironie et de la subversion douce. Tous les trois ont en partage d’avoir incarné avec l’apparition de leurs premières œuvres un renouveau narratif joueur et cyclothymique. Qu’en est-il vraiment de ce renouveau narratif résolument ludique ? Est-il aussi léger qu’on a bien voulu le croire ? Quelles sont ses formes et ses expressions ? Que signifie-t-il ? Que dit-il du monde contemporain et de la place qu’y occupe la littérature ? C’est à toutes ces questions que ce travail espère proposer des éléments de réponse en faux contre les discours convenus sur la mort du roman et le règne de la frivolité.

    Description: Né le 6 octobre 1943 à Villefranche-de-Rouergue, Claude Chauchadis a été Maître de conférences à l’Université de Bordeaux 3 puis à Toulouse-Le Mirail, où il est nommé Professeur en 1992 et où il enseignera jusqu’à son départ à la retraite en 2004. Impliqué dans différents groupes de recherche, il consacre un nombre non négligeable d’articles à des sujets divers allant du xvie au xxe siècle, sur le roman, la poésie, le théâtre ou la société espagnole. Cependant, et cela dès 1977, il oriente l’essentiel de ses recherches vers le thème de l’honneur. Toutes ses contributions à ce thème traité sous différentes facettes sont publiées en 1991 sous le titre Études sur l’honneur. C’est en 1997 que paraît sa Thèse d’État de 520 pages aux Presses Universitaires du Mirail à Toulouse : La loi du duel. Le code du point d’honneur dans l’Espagne des xvie-xviie siècles, qui fait autorité dans l’hispanisme international. Par la suite et aujourd’hui encore, il continue, par de nombreux travaux, à contribuer à la richesse scientifique et au rayonnement de l’hispanisme français.

    Description: Le livre que nous vous présentons ici est le fruit des travaux du colloque Mythes et Mémoire collective dans la culture lusophone (9, 10 mars 2005). Celui-ci a rassemblé des intervenants venus du Portugal, berceau de la culture lusophone, et de plusieurs Universités françaises ; il se donnait pour objectif, qui nous semble largement atteint, de réfléchir sur les mythes qui marquent la mémoire collective de tous ceux se réclamant d’une culture de langue portugaise. Cette mémoire relit le passé, mais se projette également dans un avenir qu’elle contribue à moduler. Elle est donc déterminante pour la vie de cette communauté de pays ayant hérité d’une même langue, même si elle est déclinée différemment. Nous pouvons dire que la mémoire collective jette un véritable pont par-dessus les océans entre les différents rivages de la saudade. Elle permet de bâtir l’édifice d’une culture qui ne tient que par les strates successives que la mémoire dépose au cours du temps. Proust, cet orfèvre de la mémoire, ne disait-il pas que « la mémoire est un palimpseste » ? Ce qui vaut pour l’individu, sujet de et par la mémoire, vaut certainement pour la collectivité. La référence à la mémoire implique celle à l’oubli, la construction collective de la mémoire impliquant parallèlement la valorisation de l’oubli. L’écriture de l’Histoire nous apparaît d’ailleurs comme la recherche d’un compromis fragile entre ces deux pôles qui marquent les frontières à l’intérieur desquelles le passé se reconstruit.

    Description: Aussitôt après la prise de pouvoir par Hitler, en janvier 1933, la majeure partie des intellectuels allemands (scientifiques, philosophes, écrivains, artistes) quitte le pays. Les raisons de cet exil, essentiellement vers d'autres pays d'Europe jusqu'en 1939, sont le plus souvent non pas raciales, mais politiques. Pour certains, il y va de la vie ou de la mort. L'Allemagne n'en continue pas moins à publier des livres, à jouer des pièces, à donner des concerts, des cours à l'Université etc... Parmi les intellectuels restés au pays figurent des noms célèbres : le poète Gottfried Benn, le philosophe Martin Heidegger ou le Prix Nobel de littérature Gerhart Hauptmann. Qu'est-ce qui pousse ces intellectuels à se mettre au service des nazis : une conviction politique, le simple l'opportunisme ? Les exilés observent avec une extrême attention les faits et gestes de leurs collègues en Allemagne afin de tracer une frontière symbolique entre les « véritables intellectuels » et les « traîtres ». À relever d'un discours d'une extrême sévérité, plus tard adoucie il est vrai par une plus juste compréhension, la condamnation des « renégats » pose la question des modalités de la lutte contre un discours totalitaire : est-il possible de s'opposer à un langage perverti, sans tomber dans les travers mêmes que l'on dénonce ? La question se double d'une autre : peut-on, de l'extérieur et sur des critères uniquement politiques, juger de qui est un traître et qui est un opposant ? Le livre éclaire ici le problème de la culpabilité dans un régime totalitaire.

    Description: Pierre-Charles Weiss (1779-1866) est né et est mort à Besançon, où il passa toute son existence : il succéda à Louis Coste, mort en 1811, comme conservateur de la Bibliothèque de la Ville et exerça cette fonction pendant un peu plus d’un demi-siècle, jusqu’à sa mort. Cette permanence, ses amitiés, ses activités de bibliographe, son caractère accueillant, lui assurèrent une place de choix au centre de la vie politique et culturelle de Besançon et de la Franche-Comté. Aussi son Journal présente-t-il un grand intérêt pour les chercheurs et les curieux de l’histoire locale au xixe siècle. Le quatrième volume du Journal de Charles Weiss s’étend sur cinq années, de 1838 à 1842. La publication de cette chronique quotidienne pourrait être lassante, mais chaque jour apporte une information nouvelle, éclaire un aspect de la vie intellectuelle bisontine et franc-comtoise : les problèmes cruciaux qui se posent à l’Université... ceux de la presse régionale, notamment à travers Le Franc-Comtois que Weiss édite avec ses amis... les rapports de l’Académie de Besançon avec Pierre Joseph Proudhon... les conflits qui scandent la vie municipale et la politique dans la province... Les événements marquants sont passés en revue au jour le jour par un spectateur privilégié -et quelquefois acteur discret -accompagnés de jugements parfois surprenants sur les hommes et les œuvres. Ce volume est complété d’un index général reprenant et précisant ceux qui ont figuré dans les précédents volumes. L’apport considérable d’informations dans tous les domaines est la justification du travail de transcription et de présentation critique vers lequel le regretté doyen Edmond Préclin avait orienté madame Suzanne Lepin lorsque, jeune agrégée d’histoire et géographie, elle était professeur au Lycée Pasteur de Besançon.

Francisco Cascales lanzó la polémica en una carta humorística, con fórmulas memorables como la que hace del poeta un ángel de luz convertido en ángel de tinieblas. Esto desde Murcia, muy lejos de Madrid, donde Góngora transcurría entonces sus últimos y amargos años, aureolado de una gloria y de escándalo cuyos ecos se oían en toda la península.Quienes participan en esta controversia son son personajes de segunda fila de la República de las letras españolas, asentados en el Sur de España: respectivamente en Murcia para Cascales, donde ejerció como catedrático de Retórica; en Andújar (provincia de Jaén) para Villar, donde fue vicario y juez eclesiástico; y en Loja (provincia de Granada) para Angulo y Pulgar, un hombre acomodado, de linaje noble. El fuego y la pasión con los cuales debaten de la poesía gongorina les llevan a movilizar el sarcasmo más burlón (Cascales) o bien argumentaciones matizadas e ingeniosas, en defensa de su admirado Góngora (Villar y Angulo y Pulgar). La cuestión central es la del estatuto de la lengua moderna en relación con el latín, pero también el uso y los límites de la erudición. Los editores, mediante las notas y el estudio preliminar, restituyen cuidadosamente las tres figuras, las circunstancias del intercambio y las sutilezas de los textos.

    Description: Annoncée en France en 1998 sous impulsion européenne, la lutte contre les discriminations raciales n’a jamais été véritablement portée par un gouvernement. L’ouvrage analyse, à différentes échelles d’intervention, les processus multiples de refoulement de la discrimination ethno-raciale : la dilution et l’euphémisation du problème pour en extraire sa dimension ethno-raciale, l’éviction du débat politique par des instruments consensuels, enfin la délégation de l’action à des experts et aux territoires. S’appuyant sur un matériau empirique dense, l’auteure examine, dans un second temps, la fabrique de la lutte contre les discriminations ethno-raciales dans une ville. Dans ce contexte de fortes dénégations, l’action publique locale se trouve limitée et incertaine. L’analyse des usages du droit de la non-discrimination montre que la loi, fortement concurrencée, fonctionne davantage comme une contrainte à gérer que comme un idéal à atteindre. L’action tente aussi de s’allier les minoritaires, mais contrairement aux discours sur l’abus de l’argument victimaire, ceux-ci sont peu enclins à protester publiquement contre les épreuves qu’ils vivent. Alors que les enquêtes ne cessent de confirmer la réalité de ces discriminations, ce livre, issu d’une thèse, offre des clés de lecture pour la recherche et pour l’action.

Cet ouvrage se propose d’étudier quelques-unes des lignes de force qui structurent le champ littéraire dans le siècle finissant, en se centrant sur une figure d’autorité, celle de Zola, devenu tout à la fois repoussoir et père d’une lignée d’héritiers. C’est bien évidemment dégager les apparentements, les zones de porosité, les instances nouvelles de légitimation. Dans une approche tout à la fois sociocritique et poéticienne, les regards croisés sur les œuvres de Zola, Rosny, Mirbeau, Bourget, Huysmans, France, Péguy ou sur les poètes naturistes cherchent à frayer de nouvelles pistes pour l’étude d’une période charnière mais peu visitée, avide de recherches et de formes nouvelles et qui pose magistralement la question de l’essence même de la littérature, de son enjeu.

In fact, the disciplines of drawing have always been confronted with themes and issues relating to transitions from one condition to another. The history of representation tells us of transformations, even epochal ones, relating to ‘drawing’, with all that such transitions entail: suffice it to think of the evolution of forms of representation, of instrumental apparatuses, of the mutability of supports, of the analogical-digital transition underway, of the new modes of communication on platforms, of the hypertrophic offer of images also on the net that confirms Guy Debord’s intuitions relating to the new spectacularisation of society. Similarly, representation triggers transitions in the prefiguration and communication of design, the anticipation and foreshadowing of future events.The challenges posed by the digital pose open questions whose scope can only be glimpsed, such as the relationship between drawing and the act of modelling, and the construction of new paradigms of visual language and communication. ‘Transitions’, almost implicitly, points to possible futures, the evolution of technique and the search for new modes of expression; at the same time, however, it can suggest silences and reflections in a process of connection between history, theory, criticism and construction.

    Description: Qu’est-ce qu’être parent aujourd’hui ? À partir d’une importante enquête qualitative auprès de familles, diverses du point de vue de leur configuration et de leur origine sociale et géographique, et de divers professionnels de la petite enfance, notre ouvrage montre que les familles sont loin de rester passives face à l’imposition de règles de conduite d’une « bonne parentalité ». Elles interprètent différemment les normes, se les approprient, les rejettent ou s’y adaptent sur la base de compromis négociés avec les institutions et les professionnels de la petite enfance. Il est remarquable que le travail permanent exercé sur les normes familiales ne soit pas linéaire et aboutisse à la coexistence d’une pluralité de conceptions de la « bonne parentalité », plus ou moins innovantes, contestataires ou traditionnelles. Ce qui frappe aujourd’hui est cet enchevêtrement de normes traditionnelles résistantes, de normes contestées et négociées et de nouvelles normes inventées qui transforment les référentiels de la famille moderne. Plus qu’au déclin de l’institution familiale, souvent déploré dans le discours public et relayé par les spécialistes de l’enfance ou les observateurs de la vie sociale, notre enquête nous a confrontées à un processus permanent d’institutionnalisation de la famille tant par sa contestation des normes en place que par sa volonté d’inventer de nouvelles façons de « faire famille ».

El autoritarismo de nueva generacio´n registrado durante la segunda de´cada de este milenio definitivamente se ha exacerbado. Esta matriz se ha reforzado en lo económico, actualizando la antigua alianza tecno-militar en la composición de los gobiernos en cargos claves (Brasil, Paraguay y Colombia), al tiempo que se refuerza el imaginario del Estado emprendedor, ahora conducido sin mediaciones y en forma directa por empresarios.

    Le choix d'un poème : La poésie saisie par la musique (2021)

    Description: La musique ne cesse de s'inspirer du texte poétique, que ce soit dans la pratique traditionnelle du madrigal, du lied et de la mélodie ou dans les multiples entreprises de la musique contemporaine. En élaborant son œuvre, un compositeur s'inscrit dans les parages d'un poète, en accueille les mots ou l'univers scriptural pour les mettre en musique, opération supposant des décisions compositionnelles mais aussi une com-préhension du texte et/ou de la poétique de l'écrivain. Cette com-préhension, cette préhension de l'autre, ce saisissement d'un poème par une musique est déterminé par l'événement d'un choix. Mais ce choix, d'où s'autorise-t-il et que s'autorise-t-il vis-à-vis du poème ? À quelles conditions ce poème ne fonctionne-t-il pas comme un simple pré-texte, oublié/assimilé par une musique qui se l'approprie aussitôt, mais comme la trace comprise par une musique qui la com-pose en une œuvre nouvelle ? La question est particulièrement légitime – et urgente – dès lors que la musique s'approche de textes résistants, ayant leur propre rapport à la musique et se défiant a priori de toute récupération musicale, même s'ils semblent en autoriser le risque. La décision compositionnelle d'une telle incorporation – le choix d'un poème – relève ainsi d'une opération spécifique dont il convient d'analyser les conditions, les enjeux et les limites. Après une mise en perspective historique puis une réflexion d'ordre éthique, quatre poètes sont convoqués dont on analyse tant le rapport propre à la musique que les décisions de compositeurs les ayant mis en musique ; symétriquement est interrogé le choix d'un compositeur de quatre poètes écrivant dans une langue d'adoption. C'est finalement le dialogue entre les arts, à notre époque de reconfiguration profonde de leurs relations, qui se trouve interrogé à l'occasion d'une approche nouvelle et originale de la rencontre de la musique et de la poésie.

    Description: Superlatifs et clichés viennent spontanément sous la plume au sujet d’Alexandre Dumas. En perfusion réciproque avec l’histoire de la France, l’œuvre a rabattu la grande ligne du temps sur une surface de publication élargie aux proportions d’un continent dont la carte n’est pas encore complètement établie. Car il y reste au moins une terra incognita, propre à relancer la machine des superlatifs : la dévorante activité de journaliste et de directeur de journaux à laquelle s’est adonné l’écrivain. Qui sait aujourd’hui qu’il rédigea seul, entre 1848 et 1850, un mensuel où ses ferveurs politiques se mêlaient d’inquiétude face à la montée du césarisme ? Qu’il publia de 1853 à 1857 un quotidien, Le Mousquetaire, dans lequel il s’employa, en tisonnant les cendres du romantisme, à roder un journalisme de combat littéraire en temps de censure ? Qu’il fit paraître sous sa seule signature, de 1857 à 1862, Le Monte-Cristo, trouvant encore l’énergie, dans l’intervalle, de jeter sur le marbre, à Naples, un journal politique en italien, L'Indipendente, où le futur fondateur du Corriere délia sera fit ses premières armes ? Et qu’il devait encore lancer, au soir de sa carrière, un second Mousquetaire et un Dartagnan ? Parfaite illustration du journalisme tel que Dumas le concevait, Le Mousquetaire premier du nom témoigne de la solution de compromis offerte par la petite presse littéraire aux écrivains journalistes sous les années les plus autoritaires du Second Empire. Avec d’autres périodiques du même genre, mais non du même panache, ce journal d’écrivain est également très représentatif d’une période médiane dans l’évolution des deux champs entrecroisés dont il relève, situé qu’il est à mi-parcours sur la voie allant du lancement de La Presse par Émile de Girardin en 1836 à l’apparition du Petit Journal en 1863 et, d’autre part, entre le reflux du romantisme et le flux des esthétiques de la modernité. Sous ces différents aspects et pour mieux éclairer un moment assez obscur de l’histoire culturelle française, il est bien utile d’examiner de près cette feuille que Philibert Audebrand, l’un de ses rédacteurs, évoquait dans ses souvenirs comme le « plus invraisemblable des journaux français, passés, présents et futurs ».

    Description: La Política Pública Distrital de Ruralidad (PPDR), formulada para la ciudad de Bogotá (Colombia) en 2006, fue concebida como una herramienta de gestión para el ordenamiento ambiental sostenible del territorio y la superación de la exclusión de la población, desde un enfoque de desarrollo humano. Se presenta aquí el proceso y resultados de un estudio de caso que tuvo como propósito analizar, desde dicho enfoque, la implementación de la ppdr para aportar a la compresión de los obstáculos, aciertos y nuevos retos de la inclusión del desarrollo humano en las políticas públicas ambientales. El estudio se centró en las acciones de tipo ambiental reportadas por las entidades públicas distritales, correspondientes a los periodos de gobierno 2008-2011 “Bogotá Positiva: Para Vivir Mejor” y 2012-2015 “Bogotá Humana”. El análisis de las acciones implementadas en el marco de la ppdr, evidenció que ésta ha aportado al avance en términos de desarrollo humano en la ruralidad, lo que demuestra la relevancia de generar políticas que, enfocadas en la protección de la naturaleza, promuevan a la vez el desarrollo social y económico de las poblaciones que viven en contacto directo con la misma, integrando plenamente las cuestiones de equidad en las políticas ambientales.

    Description: Pierre Leroux, qui fut après 1830 un des apôtres de la République démocratique et sociale - du socialisme, comme il disait déjà - a débuté dans le journalisme littéraire en 1824. Débuts modestes et obscurs, sur lesquels les biographes passent vite : Leroux, qui n'est encore qu'un manœuvre des lettres, ne signe aucun de ses articles avant 1831. C'est à cette période de formation si mal connue, et pourtant décisive, que cet ouvrage est consacré. Des documents inédits ont permis à l'auteur d'identifier, pour cette période, plusieurs dizaines d'articles de Leroux, inconnus jusqu'à présent pour la plupart : il en analyse systématiquement le contenu, en relation avec les luttes politiques et les débats idéologiques de l'époque. Ainsi peuvent être tracés les grands axes d'une pensée originale et souvent féconde : philosophie de l'histoire, histoire des religions, philosophie politique, esthétique, Leroux a exploré tout cela dès avant 1830, en ces “années-mères” du xixe siècle où prend figure la société issue de la Révolution française et où surgissent tant de problèmes nouveaux, qui sont encore aujourd'hui les nôtres.
