    Description: As instituições de ensino superior estão cada vez mais preocupadas com a necessidade de implementar práticas de ensino e de aprendizagem centradas no estudante. Os métodos tradicionais de ensino, baseados exclusivamente em aulas expositivas, têm se revelado pouco eficazes para promover o desenvolvimento e formação global dos nossos estudantes. As crescentes exigências do mercado de trabalho, que procuram um perfil profissional não só baseado em competências técnicas de uma determinada área de conhecimento, mas antes uma variedade de competências transversais, como o trabalho em equipa, a resolução de problemas, a responsabilidade, gestão do tempo, criatividade, inovação, resiliência, etc. exigem que as universidades se aproximem da realidade e prática profissional dos futuros graduados, criando oportunidades para a cooperação e desenvolvimento de projetos interdisciplinares. Adicionalmente, a estrutura tradicional de organização em disciplinas que as isola em si mesmo e que não permitem ao aluno ter uma visão sistémica dos problemas, visão esta tão necessária no contexto profissional, requer mudanças ou abordagens que obriguem o aluno a ter esta visão sistémica e holística. Este livro apresenta a metodologia de Project-based Learning (PBL) ou Aprendizagem baseada em Projeto, desde a sua fase de preparação até à sua implementação num curso de Engenharia. Nesse sentido, visa constituir-se como um recurso de apoio a todos os interessados em implementar PBL, nos seus contextos de ensino e de aprendizagem. Apresenta uma descrição detalhada das etapas e procedimentos necessários para a preparação, definição, arranque, execução e finalização do processo PBL, partindo da realidade de um contexto concreto, nomeadamente, o curso de Mestrado Integrado em Engenharia e Gestão Industrial (MIEGI), da Escola de Engenharia da Universidade do Minho, Portugal.

    Description: In the evolution of Humanity, communities emerge as a strategy for optimizing individuals' resources. The sharing of these resources ensures greater physical security (from predators) and security of supply (specialization in hunting and, later, agriculture). As an additional advantage, we have evolved in general knowledge and in our ability to organize as a group, far surpassing the dreams of the first groups that joined. Energy communities offer derivations of the initial advantages: physical security, opting for smaller power stations and clean and safe energy, and security of supply, not only because a more local organization allows the substitution of at least part of the energy sourced from less than recommendable countries or actors, but also represent increased capacity to deal with network disruptions caused by the elements, such as storms or fires, whose frequency and intensity are expected to increase. Additional advantages are also now foreseen, such as the democratization and accessibility of energy or the boosting of investments in renewable energy, crucial for the decarbonisation of society. This is a concept tied to technological development, both on the energy and on the communication/information fronts, only now achieved. However, given the existence of an organized energy system prior to these possibilities, it has had a challenging evolution. Having been one of the first countries to legislate the concept, three years later we still cannot be satisfied with the low penetration of the concept in our society. In order to realize the potential of energy communities, ten specialists were invited to, in each of the different aspects of this new area of ​​knowledge, enlighten us on the advantages and limitations of this reality in its application in Portugal.

    Description: Na evolução da Humanidade, as comunidades surgem como estratégia de optimização dos recursos dos indivíduos. A partilha destes recursos permite garantir maior segurança física (face aos predadores) e segurança de abastecimento (especialização em caça e, mais tarde, agricultura). Como vantagem adicional, evoluímos no conhecimento geral e na nossa capacidade de organização enquanto grupo, ultrapassando largamente os sonhos dos primeiros grupos que se juntaram. As comunidades de energia oferecem derivações das vantagens iniciais: segurança física, optando por menores centrais e de energia limpa e segura, e segurança de abastecimento, não só por a organização local permitir a substituição de pelo menos parte da energia que nos chega de origens pouco recomendáveis, como a capacidade acrescida em lidar com fenómenos de perturbação da rede, como tempestades ou fogos, cuja frequência e intensidade se prevê aumentar. Também agora se preveem vantagens adicionais, como a democratização e acessibilidade da energia ou o potenciar de investimentos em energia renovável, crucial para a descarbonização da sociedade. Este é um conceito permitido pelo desenvolvimento tecnológico, tanto na frente da energia como na da comunicação/informação, apenas agora atingido. No entanto, atendendo à existência de um sistema energético organizado anteriormente a estas possibilidades, tem tido uma evolução difícil. Tendo sido um dos primeiros países a legislar o conceito, três anos depois ainda não podemos estar satisfeitos com a fraca penetração do conceito na nossa sociedade. Para perceber o potencial das comunidades de energia, foram convidados alguns dos melhores especialistas nacionais para, em cada uma das diferentes vertentes desta nova área de conhecimento, nos esclarecerem sobre as vantagens e limitações desta realidade, com especial ênfase na sua aplicação em Portugal.

    Description: Nos 35 anos passados desde a publicação do célebre e fundamental “Relatório Brundtland”, pelas Nações Unidas, só foi tornada mais evidente e clara a necessidade de ação definitiva, contundente e urgente, no combate aos impactos nefastos da atividade Humana no ambiente lato sensu. E de entre essas atividades danosas, a energia usada nos, e para, os nossos ambientes construídos, é responsável, sem dúvida, direta e indiretamente, por uma das maiores parcelas. Enquanto o apelo à ação se vai ouvindo ao nível global, a ação concreta, política e executiva, tem de se fazer, a começar com o respeito e a sensibilidade pelos valores e realidades vernaculares, culturais e económicas, que o sítio exige por si e pela sua quota-parte para o todo do Planeta. É neste contexto que se justifica a oportuna necessidade deste livro, que se apresenta como uma compilação e reflexão sobre o conhecimento e experiência adquirida pelos autores, ao longo de mais de 40 anos de investigação e consultoria na articulação harmoniosa dos problemas nas áreas da energia, saúde e sustentabilidade associadas à gestão do ambiente construído português. Isto é, não deixando nenhum responsável de fora desta missão que parte da realidade da fragilidade, tantas vezes sublinhada, do ambiente em geral e do Planeta em si mesmo, que requer a solidariedade de todos. E aqui, há que combater as tentações “gadgéticas” a todos os níveis e procurarassumir a bondade das ações a empreender no sentido de satisfazer as necessidades de hoje sem descurar a salvaguarda do futuro. Ora, isto requer um rigor que não se vê na linguagem política e, infelizmente, também não na ação dos profissionais das problemáticas energéticas, ambientais e da saúde e, latu sensu, da política, como da informação e da comunicação em geral. A cacofonia das terminologias sobre a energia dá disso uma imagem confrangedora ao chamar à eletricidade “a energia”, quando aquela é apenas uma forma de energia, “simpática” é certo, mas uma forma de energia entre muitas. Por isso, Semanários e TVs de elevadas audiências deveriam ser mais cautelosos e respeitosos do tema, mesmos que isso não lhes pague mais. Tentando não cair em modas ou tendências e analisando a situação ab initio, os autores apresentam e discutem os princípios científicos base, comentam e questionam a realidade recente do desenvolvimento urbano e da construção em Portugal, invocando o vernacular e o atual, e sugerem abordagens e perspetivas que ajudarão, de forma consciente e eficaz, a transformar os espaços urbanos e os edifícios para um futuro inclusivo e amplamente respeitador dos valores sociais, económico.

    Description: This collection of critical essays concentrates on the renowned Finnish collage novel Aperitiff ‒ avoin kaupunki (Aperitiff, Open City) by Kari Aronpuro in its three editions (1965, 1978, 2015). The essays provide a theoretically wide-ranging and up-to-date introduction to Aperitiff but also to collage and the collage novel more generally. Aperitiff is approached from the viewpoints of source materials; information, media technologies, and conceptualism; facsimiles as images of writing; methodological and thematic humour and comedy; Situationist reading strategies; realist and neorealist cinema; and Aperitiff‘s relation to the contemporary Finnish experimental novel, especially to Neuromaani by Jaakko Yli-Juonikas. The collection also reprints Aronpuro’s early essay on the reception of Aperitiff, and extracts from the typescript of the novel’s second edition.
    Description: Tämä artikkelikokoelma on laajin Kari Aronpuron Aperitiff – avoin kaupunki -romaanin kolmea versiota (1965, 1978, 2015) käsittelevä teos. Kokoelma tarjoaa teoreettisesti monipuolisen ja otteeltaan tuoreen johdatuksen paitsi Aperitiffiin myös yleisemmin kollaasiromaanin edelleen ajankohtaiseen lajiin ja kollaasin käsitteeseen. Antologian kirjoittajien valitsemat näkökulmat kertovat Aperitiffin moniaineksisuudesta, moniulotteisuudesta ja monitulkintaisuudesta. Artikkeleissa inventoidaan ja kartoitetaan Aperitiffin laajoja aineistoja sekä konkreettisten lainausten että laajemman intertekstuaalisuuden näkökulmista. Aperitiffia käsitellään myös informaation ja mediateknologioiden kautta. Samalla romaani kytketään suuntaukseen, joka on ollut keskeinen Kari Aronpurolle 2000-luvulla: kirjalliseen konseptualismiin, käsitteelliseen tai ”epäluovaan” kirjoittamiseen. Artikkeleissa keskitytään lisäksi tekstikollaasille oleelliseen menetelmään, tekotapaan tai tyyppiin: faksimileen. Samalla puretaan sanan ja kuvan käsiteparia analysoimalla kirjoituksen itsensä kuvallisuutta, tyypittelemällä tekstikollaaseja faksimilen näkökulmasta sekä ottamalla huomioon kirjan sivun teknologiaa. Aiheena on myös Aperitiffin huumori ja komiikka metodisten ja temaattisten tekijöiden yhteisvaikutuksena. Kollaasit, tekstilainaukset ja -luettelot sekä teoksen ontologialla leikittely ovat romaanin omalaatuisen huumorin rakennusaineita. Aperitiffia luetaan niin ikään urbaanin suunnistamisen ja harhailun näkökulmasta, erityisesti hyödyntämällä Kansainvälisiltä Situationisteilta peräisin olevia käsitteitä. Aperitiffia lähestytään myös kuvallisuuden, erityisesti elokuvallisuuden kautta ja tarkastellaan sen yhteyksiä realismin ja neorealismin traditioihin sekä ”todellisuuden” esittämiseen liittyviin diskursseihin. Aperitiffin pitkittäisvaikutuksia suomalaisessa kirjallisuudessa tutkitaan Jaakko Yli-Juonikkaan Neuromaani-romaanin (2012) kautta, teosten julkaisuajankohtia ja rakennusperiaatteita vertaillen. Tämän luennan valossa moniaineksisten avantgarde-romaanien poetiikka näyttäytyy edelleen erittäin elin- ja ilmaisuvoimaisena. Antologian liitteenä on myös arkistoharvinaisuuksia: pienoisessee, jossa Aronpuro ruotii tuoreeltaan (marraskuussa 1965) romaaninsa vastaanottoa ja kommentoi omaa teostaan, sekä otteita toisen painoksen (1978) lisämateriaalien käsikirjoitusliuskoista.

    Description: In the current digital media environment, legacy newspapers and their readers are often regarded as obsolete. For media executives and many journalists, the future of news is exclusively digital. Given the economic uncertainties facing the industry, news producers’ eyes are focused on audience metrics and their capacity to shed light on readers' preferences. This book sets out to analyse news reading from the perspective of the audience. Employing interviews as well as the so called obsläs method, it examines how readers of two Finnish regional newspapers, Hämeen Sanomat and Karjalainen, navigate in three distinct architectures of the newspaper: printed, digital replica and online news application. The assumption underlying the analysis is that each of these user interfaces favour somewhat differing reading protocols and routines. The empirical analysis responds to the big question pondered by editors and publishers: Where are the readers? It appears that most of the participants of the study tended to move from one architecture to another depending on their contextual and situational needs. In this comparison, the strengths of a printed newspaper seemed evident for many, while the balance between the pros and cons of the digital environment was more mixed. In addition to reporting the findings of the empirical audience study, this book evaluates the future of newspapers in the context of economic statistics and media policies. While the newspaper business in Finland struggles with increasing costs and volatility of income, it may well rely on the robust newspaper reading culture among the Finnish reading public.

    Description: "Drawing on the debate on mediatization of politics this study identifies cultural meanings, institutional practices and styles of argumentation as three theoretical dimensions that illuminate both the construction of journalistic publicity and its potential uses in political action. Based on the theoretical model, environmental politics is identified as a specific context for mediatization. In environmental politics, the interplay of cultural meanings, institutional practices and styles of argumentation define the construction and use of journalistic publicity in a way that differs from other fields of politics. The empirical part of this study analyzes the newspaper coverage of three Finnish environmental conflicts from 1971, 1994 and 2012. The theoretical model is transformed into an analytical framework that focuses on discursive construction of the conflicts (cultural meanings), journalistic frames, narration and opinion-giving in the coverage of the conflicts and the publicity practices adopted by actors during the conflicts (institutional practices) and legitimation of arguments (styles of argumentation). According to this study, the relation between media and politics in the field of environmental politics is defined by the increasing cultural significance of environmental protection from the 1970s to the present. In the newspaper coverage of the three environmental conflicts studied, changes on the frames, narration and opinion-giving of journalism resonated with this cultural change. However, the significance of environmental protection in the framing, narration and opinion-giving of journalism was greater in the national newspaper studied compared to the local newspapers selected based on their proximity to the conflict sites. Styles of argumentation appeared to be more case dependent. The increasing cultural significance of environmental protection did not have a clear effect on how arguments were legitimated. "

    Description: Participatory approaches and co-research are increasingly employed in the current moment for exploring barriers to equality. Co-research treats research participants as experts in their own lives and as equal research partners. Research conducted with this orientation is based on research problems drafted by the research participants themselves from their aspirations regarding the research process and an active partnership that considers the interests of all parties involved. Participatory methods are used in co-research, particularly for the purpose of deepening the contextualisation of research knowledge about structurally vulnerable or subordinated groups and to challenge the power positions associated with traditional research designs. In co-research, the role of the people involved in the research is more central than in more traditional research. One of the key principles of co-research is that co-investigators (a) can participate in various roles, (b) have the opportunity to participate in different phases of the research according to their own interests and resources, and (c) co-investigators' participation can take many forms, including differences in intensity. The idea is to provide more people with opportunities to contribute to the knowledge production about themselves and their communities from their respective perspectives and interests. Co-research is also seen as an opportunity to improve the relevance and usefulness of scientific knowledge. It aims to genuinely increase interaction and openness and extend science's societal responsibility. In this book, we approach co-research as a means to promote social justice, as an action with a societal impact contributor to social impact and as a means to promote the societal responsibility of science. We discuss and evaluate the ideals of the co-research process concerning the everyday challenges and practices in research. Above all, we offer the knowledge and experience generated by our own projects to support those planning or already implementing co-research projects.

    Description: "Curriculum Studies (opetussuunnitelmatutkimus in Finnish) comprise an international, multidisciplinary academic approach to creating discursive spaces for restructuring of the historical, theoretical and organisational complexities and interdisciplinary intertwinements present in current education and curriculum practices. While critically registering the international trends, Curriculum Studies can provide an integrative and coordinative framework for national education policy making, curriculum reforms, teachers’ pre- and in-service education and the daily work of teachers. Curriculum Studies is an indispensable element in teacher education programs in order to expand the professional horizon of student teachers and make their tacit assumptions of education and teaching more explicit and articulate. The book consists of ten peer-reviewed articles, which are organised according to three main themes. The first theme, A history of Finnish curriculum theory, would render an effort to explicate and contextualise the historical trajectories embodied in today’s curriculum and education theories and ideals. The two traditional master narratives, the German-Scandinavian Bildung with the Anglo-American Curriculum, have provided the contested platform for Finnish education and curriculum theories and practices. The second theme – The conflicting nature of prevailing teacher education discourses and the need for their more comprehensive and contextualised articulation – serves to juxtapose the dilemma between academic expectations and the actual working conditions of teachers. The role of teacher education is considered vital to dealing with these tensions. Another purpose of the theme is an attempt to expand and complicate the intellectual horizon of the taken-for-granted conception of the curriculum. The third theme of the book, The teacher as a curriculum theorist and curriculum maker, examines how the teacher and the school are cross-pressured by the conflicting interests of school and teacher autonomy and external supervision and evaluation. In addition, the issues of educational leadership amid the ideological tensions of the curriculum and how this complex can be engaged with the role of the teacher is scrutinised to some extent. In particular, the focal point here is the 2014 Finnish basic education curriculum reform. At best, Curriculum Studies can render the institutional education more transparent, vertically by exposing its historical trajectories and horizontally by revealing its present circumstances and political affiliations. As an academic field, the intellectual ambition of Curriculum Studies is to increasingly become aware of the normative, political and knowledge/power dynamics of education under constant negotiation with all its intended and unintended consequences. "

Opetussuunnitelmatutkimus informoi kansallisia opetussuunnitelmauudistuksia, koulutuspoliittista suunnittelua ja päätöksentekoa, opettajien perus- ja täydennyskoulutusta sekä opettajan työn käytännöllistä ja organisatorista arkea. Tutkimussuunta laajentaa myös opettajaksi opiskelevan ymmärrystä oman opetustyön periaatteista ja omista äänettömistä sitoumuksista. Kymmenestä vertaisarvioidusta artikkelista koostuva teos rakentuu kolmesta teemasta. Ensimmäisessä kirjan teemassa, Suomalaisen opetussuunnitelma-ajattelun historiaa, luodaan kokonaiskuvaa niistä kehityskuluista, joiden kautta on edetty 2020-luvun vallitseviin kasvatuksen ideaaleihin. Saksalainen sivistys (Bildung) -traditio yhdessä angloamerikkalaisen Curriculum-tradition kanssa ovat tuottaneet aikamme suomalaista koulutusta ja opetussuunnitelma-ajattelua. Toisessa kirjan teemassa, Opettajankoulutuksen diskurssien jännitteisyys ja monipuolistaminen, puretaan dilemmoja, joissa koulutukseen kohdennetut akateemiset ja tieteelliset odotukset törmäävät opettajan työtodellisuuteen liittyviin vaatimuksiin. Opettajankoulutuksen rooli jännitteiden purkamisessa nähdään keskeisenä. Lisäksi tarkastelussa pyritään opetussuunnitelmadiskursseja monimutkaistamalla laajentamaan opetussuunnitelmaa koskevaa ymmärrystä. Kolmannessa kirjan teemassa, Opettaja opetussuunnitelman tulkitsijana ja toteuttajana, tarkastellaan koulun ja opettajan asemaa autonomian ja ulkoisen ohjauksen ristipaineessa sekä opettajaa pedagogisena johtajana ja opetussuunnitelman ideologisuutta tulkitsevana toimijana. Katse suunnataan myös vuoden 2014 perusopetuksen opetussuunnitelmauudistukseen. Opetussuunnitelmatutkimus tekee näkyväksi sen, miten institutionaalinen kasvatus on sekä historiallista että poliittista; se on arvosidonnaista, jännitteistä ja jatkuvan neuvottelun kohteena olevaa. Sitä koskevissa neuvotteluissa kaikilla päätöksillä ja ratkaisuilla on seurauksensa. "
