    Description: The Finnish novelist Kaarlo (Kalle) Alvar Päätalo’s (1919–2000) main work, the Iijoki series, consists of 26 novels (comprising ca. 17 000 pages) and was written in 1971–1998. In this book the text corpus in Kielipankki concerning Päätalo’s works is introduced to the readers, as well as the possibilities of digital text mining. This book includes scientific articles concerning the works of Kalle Päätalo. It also gives ideas for the research that can be carried out in the future. The authors of this book are researchers in the fields of history, linguistics and literature, respectively. The research results presented in this book speak for the fact that the Iijoki series is a significant source material for future research, for example from the point of view of oral history, language variation, metalanguage, swearing and the reader’s reception. The possibilities for future research seem to be quite plentiful.

Tässä kirjassa annetaan myös tietoa Suomen jätevedenpuhdistuksen historian monista vaiheista keskittyen Helsinkiin sekä perehdytään siihen, mitä vesi merkitsi ja miten siihen suhtauduttiin eri aikoina. Kirjassa perehdytään muun muassa Vantaanjoen ristiriitaiseen, mutta keskeiseen rooliin sekä viemärinä että raakavesilähteenä, saastumattoman ja riittävän raakavesivesilähteen löytämiseksi tehtyihin varhaisiin pohjavesitutkimuksiin, ulosteongelman ratkaisuun sekä Päijänteen ottamiseen raakavesilähteeksi. Teos taustoittaa viemäröinnin ja jätevesienpuhdistuksen historiaa koko Euroopan mittakaavassa tuhansien vuosien takaa. Erityisesti perehdytään Suomessa tehtyihin ratkaisuihin ja syvällisemmin Helsingin viemäröinnin varhaisiin vaiheisiin ja jätevedenpuhdistuksen alkutaipaleeseen. Keskeiseksi nousevat kysymykset, mitä toimia toteutettiin kun tavoitteeksi otettiin vesistöjen puhdistuminen, miten nämä toimenpiteet ovat vaikuttaneet asukkaiden elämään ja ympäristön tilaan. Lisäksi pohditaan mitkä ovat tulevaisuuden haasteet vesihuollon ammattilaisten näkökulmasta katsottuna.

    Description: In 2020, Norway’s national curriculum for primary and secondary school eduction, known as Kunnskapsløftet, came into effect. The plan is marked by increased emphasis on education for sustainability, and a notable example of this is the inclusion of sustainable development as an interdisciplinary topic in most subjects in primary and secondary school. As a result, the focus on sustainabilty has also increased in teacher eduction programs, for preschool as well as primary and secondary school teachers. Furthermore, a number of research networks have been established to explore sustainability in the context of education, and new research and textbooks are being published on this topic. This anthology presents new research on how the subject of sustainability is being handled in schools and preschools today, to all those interested in the topic. Education for Sustainability. Denne boken presenterer ny forskning om hvordan det jobbes med temaet i skole og barnehage. Boken vil gi ny kunnskap til alle som er opptatt av temaet. Utdanning for bærekraft. Erfaing og forskning fra barnehage og skole kan leses både som en fagbok innrettet mot bærekraftutdanning for lærere og barnehagelærere, og som enkeltstående forskningsbidrag. Artiklene i antologien kan bidra til økt innsikt, engasjement og fokus på utdanning for bærekraft.

    Description: The volume is a comprehensive handbook of oral history and memory studies in Finland. The Finnish research field has originally emerged at the collaborative intersection of history, folklore studies, and ethnology. Since then, this field has developed into vibrant multi- and cross-disciplinary arena characterized by a strong focus on methodological issues related to memory in culture and theoretical engagement with studies on narration and processes of remembering. The chapters of the book explore the perspectives on the production of memory-based knowledge in oral history interviews and collection campaigns of written reminiscences. Moreover, the book introduces versatile methodological approaches to the study of memory and memories, ranging from narrative to corpus analysis, and investigates the multiple media of remembrance from documentary film to museum exhibition. The chapters of the book also engage the field’s disciplinary position and interrogate the potentials and challenges related to the application of the methods of oral history research and the use of memory-based knowledge beyond academia in political, societal, and community-based projects.

    Description: "This book addresses political conflicts in Norway through an extended time span, from the late autocracy of the 18th century until the democratic challenges of today. The book holds eight articles focusing on historical phases which have been particularly influenced by social and political mobilization. Thus, the book traces an oppositional tradition across borders in time and space. Although the articles are based on limited studies, the authors write with ambition to include their research into this wider context. In Norway, the Constitution of 1814 marks the shift from autocratic rule to early democracy. 18th century peasant riots may be interpreted as expressions of impotence of the common people, but also as an opportunity for action with the potential to influence the authorities. The 19th century peasant opposition shows the potential for change through parliamentary representation. Around 1850 the first attempts at worker’s organizations were criminalized – around 1950, however, the Labour Party dominated Norwegian politics. These trending lines reflect an increasingly developed democracy. The political system is in principle opening for broad popular participation. However, democracy is still being challenged by opposition in ways and by means that occasionally raise concerns about the stability of our political culture. The book is divided into three parts. Part I is dedicated to the age of late autocracy, part II provides insights into the 19th century democratization processes, while Part III includes articles dealing with opposition and confrontations in the last century, focusing the interwar period, the 1970s, and today's multicultural society.The book is aimed both at researchers, students and the general audience."

    Description: Hvordan kan lærerutdanningen gi kommende lærere kompetanse i å arbeide med globale og flerkulturelle spørsmål, og hvordan kan praksis eller lengre utenlandsopphold fremme studentenes interkulturelle kompetanse og globale bevissthet? Denne antologien belyser disse spørsmålene fra ulike vinkler og ulike fagtradisjoner. Internasjonalisering i lærerutdanningen dreier seg gjerne om internasjonal praksis, og mange lærerutdanningsinstitusjoner har drevet med praksis i det globale sør i ulike varianter gjennom mange år. Bidragene i antologien er alle skrevet av fagansatte ved norske lærerutdanninger, som kommer fra ulike fagfelt som engelsk, norsk, pedagogikk, sosiologi, antropologi og samfunnsgeografi. Dette illustreres ved bruk av forskjellig teoretisk tilnærming, empirisk materiale og ulike analyseteknikker. Alle bidragene har kvalitative tilnærminger, hvor leseren møter både lærerstudentenes stemmer og stemmene til samarbeidspartnere i sør. Kapitlene belyser praksis og utenlandssemestre i Zambia, Namibia, Tanzania og Sør-Afrika. Ett kapittel dreieseg om praksis i en flyktningleir.
