In fact, the disciplines of drawing have always been confronted with themes and issues relating to transitions from one condition to another. The history of representation tells us of transformations, even epochal ones, relating to ‘drawing’, with all that such transitions entail: suffice it to think of the evolution of forms of representation, of instrumental apparatuses, of the mutability of supports, of the analogical-digital transition underway, of the new modes of communication on platforms, of the hypertrophic offer of images also on the net that confirms Guy Debord’s intuitions relating to the new spectacularisation of society. Con base en etnografías surgidas de la coyuntura que, en el periodo 2015-2017, suscitó la oferta local y transnacional de donación reproductiva en México, este libro expone la inserción de ese país en la cadena mundial de trabajo reproductivo; explora el simbolismo de la genética y discute sobre la autonomía de los cuerpos femeninos.     Description: En su obra Les Chasseurs-cueilleurs ou l’origine des inégalrtés (1982), Alain Testart insiste en el papel que la práctica del almacenamiento pudo haber cobrado en el origen de las desigualdades en el seno de los grupos humanos, en particular entre las bandas de cazadores recolectores y, especialmente, aquellas más o menos sedentarizadas. En un artículo famoso, Kent V. Flannery (1973), por su parte, afirmaba que la aparición del modo de vida sedentario más había tenido que ver con la invención de las fosas de almacenaje que con la de la agricultura. Eso ejemplifica el carácter central que tuvo el acto de almacenar en diferentes contextos de la historia humana universal. No cabe duda de que, en la Mesoamérica prehispánica también, el almacenaje desempeñó un papel importante. Sin embargo, la arqueología y la etnohistoria no han prestado mucha atención al tema y a los vestigios -de hecho a menudo efímeros- que pueden hablar de este aspecto esencial de la vida económica y social. Al revisar datos procedentes de diferentes partes del Norte y Centro del México antiguo -desde Chihuahua hasta Morelos y Puebla, pasando por Michoacán y la Cuenca de México-, este volumen pretende empezar a llenar un vacío. Por otra parte, más allá de la simple recopilación de informaciones factuales, sus páginas introducen a discusiones fundamentales sobre las múltiples cuestiones que el estudio del almacenamiento en sociedades del pasado lleva a abordar: sus aspectos tecnológicos, pero también económicos, sociales y políticos, en otras palabras su dimensión antropológica.

    Description: El presente libro es uno de los resultados del proyecto de documentación de la lengua huasteca (tenek) de la sierra de Otontepec que la Dra. Ana Kondic llevó a cabo en 2012. El objetivo de este proyecto fue la creación de una base de datos, la elaboración de materiales de revitalización y manutención, así como la redacción de una gramática descriptiva de esta variante del huasteco. Esta publicación nació de los materiales coleccionados durante el trabajo de campo que la autora realizó en el pueblo de San Francisco Chontla, Veracruz, en el periodo 2008-2013. Dos músicos locales, Telésforo del Ángel Domínguez y Narcizo de la Cruz Domínguez, fueron algunos de los colaboradores principales de este proyecto de documentación. Su música y poesía en lengua teenek quedaron reflejadas en el presente libro, que representa junto al An Chikam Príncipe (El principito de Antoine de Saint Exupéry traducido al teenek) y las Narraciones Huastecas Trilingües, una extraordinaria herramienta para la manutención y la revitalización de la lengua y cultura de los huastecos de la sierra de Otontepec.

De su dios radiante recibieron el nombre de mexicas. " Hace unos cuantos anos, un gran pintor mexicano le propuso a un re-conocido antropologo, estudiar juntos la cuestion del excremento en la cultura amerindia de su pais. De este encuentro, surgieron imâgenes impresionantes y una (vieja) historia de la mierda hecha a partir de cien-tos de historias dispersas por aquf y por alla en la literatura prehispânica, en las cronicas espanolas del siglo XVI, en la literatura de la Colonia, en el folklore, en los datos etnogrâficos, en los tratados médicos... El lector, sorprendido desde el principio al ver una materia tal emba-rrada a lo largo de la pagina, descubre una erudiciôn vasta, poco antes de aprender una leccion inigualable. La mierda, el excremento, el des-echo se encuentran en el fundamento de las representaciones corporales, pero también de ciertas concepciones del cosmos. Ningûn campo de la actividad humana escapa finalmente al contacto de esta sustancia vil.

Aquí viene la primera edición crítica de uno de los testimonios más importantes sobre la crisis de la Independencia mexicana y, más generalmente, hispanoamericana, y de una fuente poco conocida de la "Carta Profética" de Simón Bolívar. De mamotreto publicado en pésimas condiciones, la Historia pasa a ser una obra legible. Cotejando el texto con sus fuentes, este libro estudia los métodos -no siempre ortodoxos- de Mier como historiador. Aporta muchos datos nuevos sobre su papel de militante y propagandista, sobre los medios independentistas de Londres, y las redes de información e influencia que tenían su foco esencial en la capital británica. La obra es una fuente sui generis imprescindible para quien quiera entender un periodo que sigue siendo objeto de muchas controversias. Mier es también un escritor, y a veces un gran polemista. No es un gran creador de ideas, pero su ideario es mucho más coherente de lo que se ha afirmado. En él tradición y modernidad se hermanan de manera a la vez personal y representativa.

    Description: Sea europeo o amerindio, el hombre es considerado por los eclesiásticos del siglo XVI como un pecador manchado por la falta original e inclinado a la transgresión. Por eso, al emprender la conquista de las almas de los indígenas mexicanos, la Iglesia echa mano de una tradición de origen medieval, los exempla: cortas anécdotas de caracter moralizante. Los predicadores, especialmente los jesuitas, dan un nuevo impulso a este género literario como lo comprueba el análisis de sus sermones redactados en lengua náhuatl. Para deconstruir la lengua, los relatos y el universo mental de los indios, los predicadores utilizan todos los procedimientos que les permiten integrar su grey a la humanidad pecadora. De manera más sorprendente, el exemplum encuentra una noción indígena: el tetzahuitl, que reúne el terror sagrado y la conducta escandalosa, complejo en torno al cual se instaura un diálogo entre predicadores españoles y fieles indios, entre el final del siglo XVI y del XVIII. En este libro convergen varias disciplinas: la historia medieval, pues describe por primera vez la posteridad del exemplum; la historia moderna y la antropología, al descubrir un medio, hasta hoy inédito, para la evangelización de los indios de México; también concierne a la literatura de los comportamientos que comprende los rumores y las leyendas urbanas. Por fin, y sobre todo, se interesa en los procesos de globalización y en las ideologías, para demostrar el uso de la noción de pecado en el encuentro entre los mundos.

    Description: En un contexto donde el silencio se vuelve angustiante, visi-bilizar es quizás una primera acción para combatir el olvido colectivo, porque a través del relato y la acción se inicia un proceso de memorialización pública, necesario en una sociedad que esconde sus males y sus muertos, carente de interlocutores confiables a quien recurrir. Los crímenes actuales forman una herida abierta desde la cual es imposible pensar el duelo colectivo. El cuerpo social mexicano es un cuerpo acribillado, que sufre la violencia y su estigmatización. ¿Serán las prácticas creativas de los artistas y los colectivos, basadas en la acción relacional con la sociedad civil, una contribución al trabajo de memoria, al implicar la visibilidad del trauma colectivo en el espacio público y un proceso de sensibilización social? Interactuar y visibilizar puede ser un arma contra el silencio. La práctica artística despliega un “trabajo de memoria” que posibilita luchar contra el olvido, porque perturba, atormenta y opera, "trabaja”. El trabajo de visibilización de la violencia y sus consecuencias, es también el trabajo de grupos de ciudadanos, vinculados a las familias de las víctimas, a las organizaciones sociales, y a todos los que quieran participar en estas iniciativas. Hacer colectivo este trabajo vinculándonos con aquellas personas que sufren de manera directa la violencia, quizás permitiría prácticas de remembranza más integradoras y amplias. Los textos aquí reunidos, bajo el título Cuerpos memorables, están acotados por las circunstancias en que vivimos, pensamos y trabajamos. Los artistas e investigadores ejercen una práctica cuya posibilidad máxima, en lo relativo a la posibilidad de incidir socialmente, apunta a la disposición para acompañar y aprender de aquellos que están poniendo directamente el cuerpo para defender la vida digna, después de perder y buscar a sus seres queridos.

    Description: El sitio arqueológico de San Antonio Nogalar se encuentra aproximadamente a 110 km al noroeste de Tampico, en el municipio de Gonzalez, en Tamaulipas. Fue descubierto por Joaquín Meade en 1950; este historiador consideró que se trataba de la legendaria Tamaholipa, de la cual habla el misionero franciscano fray Andrés de Olmos en el siglo XVI. Meade tuvo el mérito de haber señalado el nombre del sitio que dio origen al estado de Tamaulipas. En los años de 1953-1954, Richard Mc Neish hace una serie de sondeos y recolección en la superficie; según estos estudios, la época de ocupación del sitio fue en la fase Laguna, situada en el preclásico final, es decir, en los últimos siglos antes de Cristo. En 1964 se descubre un cementerio indígena. En 1967 se realiza una visita de la misión francesa y se percatan de la importancia del sitio. Las excavaciones se llevan a cabo entre abril y mayo de 1968. La segunda etapa de excavaciones tuvo lugar en abril de 1969. El grupo que hace las primeras excavaciones estaba formado por Guy Stresser-Péan, Claude Stresser-Péan, Victor Lagarde (fotógrafo) y Cornelis Grootenboer (topógrafo y diseñador). La investigación se extendió a los sitios de Los Laureles y El Ojital, así como a los abrigos del Risco de las Cenizas y al Risco de Los Monos, donde se encontraron pinturas rupestres. El libro da cuenta de una exhaustiva investigación que no se detiene en lo arqueológico, sino que se extiende a lo histórico, botánico, zootécnico, lo mismo que al estudio de las osamentas encontradas en el lugar. El tema sigue siendo de actualidad dada la importancia del sitio arqueológico y el completo repaso histórico de los grupos que habitaron la región.

    Description: La noche es, sin duda, alguna uno de los temas más prometedores de la antropología del nuevo milenio sobre el cual se implanta desde ahora una pléyade de coloquios, tesis e investigaciones de campo. Si la noche fue por largo tiempo el punto ciego de nuestra disciplina es porque la mirada, los hábitos y la experiencia del Occidente sobre esta otra mitad de nuestra existencia parecía racional y universal, mientras que aquellos de los Otros, exóticos del espacio y del tiempo, no solamente parecían sorprendentes e incomprensibles, sino además locamente irracionales. De hecho, tenemos el hábito de pensar y de vivir un cierto número de alternancias que nos parecen evidentes o naturales: claridad diurna/oscuridad nocturna, vigilia/sueño, actividad/descanso, seguridad/peligro. Nos es difícil convencernos de que otras sociedades no las conciban así y no las vivan del mismo modo. Las fronteras entre estos fenómenos impuestos, percibidos, vividos, comunes a los humanos, constituyen precisamente el campo de las culturas que crean, modifican, dedican un espacio intermedio propicio al despliegue y al imaginario de las reglas del consciente y de las pulsiones del inconsciente. A pesar de que han concedido un crédito constante a los eventos excepcionales que apuntalan el tiempo nocturno, tales como los rituales de iniciación, de hechicería, las sesiones chamánicas, los velorios fúnebres o el culto a los ancestros, los etnólogos no habían dado hasta la época reciente una suficiente atención a las prácticas del cotidiano nocturno, a las rutinas del tiempo consagrado o robado al sueño. Desde ahora, incumbe pintar la infinita diversidad de las maneras de tratar la noche y la complejidad de los modos de actuar, de trabajar, de defenderse, de distraerse, todo el campo de los posibles que le es aferente, y que el concepto de nocturnidad permite abordar para expresar que la noche no es el reverso del día sino otro continente con sus propias dificultades, alumbradas por modelos cognitivos y visiones de mundo inconmensurables. En la colección de ensayos presente en esta obra se da a entender estos resplandores de la vida nocturna, desde los mundos prehispánicos hasta nuestros espacios urbanos contemporáneos, desde Papúa hasta la Italia de la Mafia, de la Amazonia de los chamanes al Árctico sumergido en la larga noche polar de seis meses. Y, finalmente, aparecerá que la noche de los antropólogos puede ser tan rica de sentido como lo ha sido a lo largo de los siglos para los escritores, artistas y músicos, quienes tal como lo expresa Rilke, “creen en las noches”.

    Description: La Sierra Norte de Puebla, numerosas veces recorrida por Guy Stresser-Péan, es una regìón particularmente interesante debido a su carácter pluriétnico, que se expresa en la convivencia de tres lenguas: totonaca, otomí y náhuatl. Es un lugar privilegiado para la observación del sincretismo ocurrido bajo la influencia de la doctrina cristiana, que se refleja en las ceremonias, las danzas y las ideas indígenas relacionadas con Dios, con el alma y con los seres espirituales, pero también en la concepción del espacio, el tiempo, la vida y la muerte. Las creencias relativas a la Luna, y en mayor medida al Sol, Ilaman la atención de manera particular, ya que este astro se asimila a Jesucristo, tanto por parte de los indios de la sierra como por los de la Huasteca. Quetzalcóati 9 Viento, el héroe cultural de una parte de la sierra, el espíritu del dios del maíz, sigue siendo venerado como precursor del Sol, y a veces se confunde con Cristo. Este libro aporta, además, el complemento indispensable de la perspectiva indígena, in situ, en la diacronía y la diversidad de las situaciones. Al término de sus lecturas e investigaciones y de la confrontación con las fuentes, Stresser-Péan Ilega de manera natural a la explicación que se desprende de todo ello, describiendo el ambiente de religiosidad que impregna la existencia cotidiana de los indios de México, las danzas practicadas desde los tiempos más antiguos, y los rezos dirigidos a los dioses.     Description: The volume, dedicated to the 44th International Conference of the Italian Union for Drawing, investigates the theme of ‘Transitions’, which particularly effectively represents our time and the current condition of the discipline of Drawing. The term, beyond its generic meaning of an intermediate stage in a process in which a condition changes from one state to another, has always been used in various fields, from music to geophysics. In fact, the disciplines of drawing have always been confronted with themes and issues relating to transitions from one condition to another. The history of representation tells us of transformations, even epochal ones, relating to ‘drawing’, with all that such transitions entail: suffice it to think of the evolution of forms of representation, of instrumental apparatuses, of the mutability of supports, of the analogical-digital transition underway, of the new modes of communication on platforms, of the hypertrophic offer of images also on the net that confirms Guy Debord’s intuitions relating to the new spectacularisation of society. Similarly, representation triggers transitions in the prefiguration and communication of design, the anticipation and foreshadowing of future events.The challenges posed by the digital pose open questions whose scope can only be glimpsed, such as the relationship between drawing and the act of modelling, and the construction of new paradigms of visual language and communication. ‘Transitions’, almost implicitly, points to possible futures, the evolution of technique and the search for new modes of expression; at the same time, however, it can suggest silences and reflections in a process of connection between history, theory, criticism and construction.
