    Description: The 43rd UID conference, held in Genova, takes up the theme of ‘Dialogues’ as practice and debate on many fundamental topics in our social life, especially in these complex and not yet resolved times. The city of Genova offers the opportunity to ponder on the value of comparison and on the possibilities for the community, naturally focused on the aspects that concern us, as professors, researchers, disseminators of knowledge, or on all the possibile meanings of the discipline of representation and its dialogue with ‘others’, which we have broadly catalogued in three macro areas: History, Semiotics, Science / Technology. Therefore, “dialogue” as a profitable exchange based on a common language, without which it is impossible to comprehend and understand one another; and the graphic sign that connotes the conference is the precise transcription of this concept: the title ‘translated’ into signs, derived from the visual alphabet designed for the visual identity of the UID since 2017. There are many topics which refer to three macro sessions: - Witnessing (signs and history) - Communicating (signs and semiotics) - Experimenting (signs and sciences) Thanks to the different points of view, an exceptional resource of our disciplinary area, we want to try to outline the prevailing theoretical-operational synergies, the collaborative lines of an instrumental nature, the recent updates of the repertoires of images that attest and nourish the relations among representation, history, semiotics, sciences.

Dans tous les cas, acheter un bijou, l’offrir, le vendre, le transformer, le perdre ou l’abandonner sont autant d’actes par lesquels un individu se pose comme personne et affiche la nature des relations qu’il entretient avec les autres. Du côté des femmes surtout, interlocutrices privilégiées en ce domaine, le « parler bijoux » a révélé, tout autant que les singuliers pouvoirs prêtés à ces objets, les manières dont ils scandent et ordonnent des parcours et des destins.     Description: The art of printing with movable type made its appearance in Perugia -then as now, the heart of Italy- in 1471, when the city was under the sway of Braccio Baglioni. Perugia was home to an important university which had been attracting students from all over Europe for more than a century. They found hospitality in two colleges, of which the ‘Sapienza Vecchia’, in particular, was accustomed to accommodating students from abroad. The colleges were themselves instrumental in assisting the work of the earliest printers, all of them foreigners; their enterprise flourished for about fifteen years before strong competition from larger printing centres, notably Venice, took control of the Perugian book market. A second phase in local book production started at the turn of the century under the aegis of two major players, the Cartolari family and Bianchino dal Leone. The history of the book in Perugia is characterized by a quality and originality which is not reflected in the modest quantities produced there, and the major bibliographers have always taken an interest in it. All that and more can be found in this book, the outcome of lengthy research based on detailed analysis of all known editions and archival documents, including a number of new discoveries.

    Description: Depuis quelques années, le Brésil occupe une place de plus en plus importante sur la scène internationale en conséquence de grands changements socio-économiques – et plus particulièrement d’une réduction significative de la pauvreté et de l’inégalité des revenus. Cet ouvrage vise à présenter au public francophone, y compris au lecteur profane en matière de politique sociale brésilienne, la mise en place et l’évolution des différents programmes d’allocations sociales, dont le plus connu est la Bourse-Famille. L’analyse porte sur les caractéristiques de base de ces programmes, leurs formats, les changements conceptuels intervenus au cours du temps, le ciblage des bénéficiaires, les effets des allocations sur la composition du revenu des ménages ainsi que sur le déclin de la pauvreté et de l’inégalité. Enfin, l’accent est mis sur les défis à relever pour perfectionner cette politique des allocations afin de mieux protéger les enfants pauvres, la population la plus vulnérable actuellement.

    Description: Besides identifying plants used by men, charcoal analysis may also reconstruct the history of forests, based on the study of charcoal from domestic uses. The reliability of this discipline depends on the definition of rigourous methods, from the archaeological dig to the palaeoenvironmental interpretation, which is the subject of the tint part of this work.In part two, thirteen languedocian sites dating from the end of Prehistory to Antiquity are studied following this method. In the Languedoc region, the early balance between the mediterranean oak forest and human activities leads us to review the history of deforestation. It is only in the lion Age that permanent tree clearance on plains increases, maintained during the roman period, announcing perhaps the first permanent fields. The results of this study, combined with documentary sources, constitute a first synthesis on territory changes.

    Description: Souterrains have in the past been the object of both varied and fanciful inter­pretations. Considered at different times to be places of refuge or worship, they have been attribued to periods ranging from pre-history to the French Revolu­tion. The present study, first written as a doctoral thesis, examines94 souterrains in the Limousin region and analyses their geographical and historical significance. Research has included excavation of the Bois-du-Mont souterrain at Bessines-sur-Gartempe in the Haute-Vienne depart­ment. The result of the study proves that these underground chambers are related to rural settlement during IXth to XIIIth centuries. Archaeology provides firm evidence for when these structures were tunnelled, occupied and abandoned. The disciplined methodological approach of this work is exemplary in a field where scientific analysis has so far been vir­tually non-existent.

    Description: Situated in the North of France, Bettencourt-Saint- Ouen is an open-air Middle Palaeolithic site, most probably used as a hunters’ stopping place. Five successive phases of occupation have been excavated, covering a period of 40.000 years Study of the site has revealed fondamental data lot our understanding of human occupation, as well as important informations on environmental changes to the site during the final glacial period (from the Eemian Interglacial to the lower Weichselian Pleniglacial). Distribution of finds at Bettencourt, coupled with the technology and typology of the site’s lithic industries, point to a continuity in systems of production and cultural traditions from 112,000 to 68,000 BP.

The term, beyond its generic meaning of an intermediate stage in a process in which a condition changes from one state to another, has always been used in various fields, from music to geophysics. In fact, the disciplines of drawing have always been confronted with themes and issues relating to transitions from one condition to another. The history of representation tells us of transformations, even epochal ones, relating to ‘drawing’, with all that such transitions entail: suffice it to think of the evolution of forms of representation, of instrumental apparatuses, of the mutability of supports, of the analogical-digital transition underway, of the new modes of communication on platforms, of the hypertrophic offer of images also on the net that confirms Guy Debord’s intuitions relating to the new spectacularisation of society. Similarly, representation triggers transitions in the prefiguration and communication of design, the anticipation and foreshadowing of future events.The challenges posed by the digital pose open questions whose scope can only be glimpsed, such as the relationship between drawing and the act of modelling, and the construction of new paradigms of visual language and communication. ‘Transitions’, almost implicitly, points to possible futures, the evolution of technique and the search for new modes of expression; at the same time, however, it can suggest silences and reflections in a process of connection between history, theory, criticism and construction.

    Description: Relay-point on a roman road, the oppidum of Ambrussum is a major site concerning conditions and aspects of the romanisation in the region of Nîmes. Two houses with internal courtyards were already known and dated from the first century AD and form an insula of secteur I. Research conducted from 1976 to 1980 in secteur IV revealed a house of the same type with its dependancies. Following an analysis based on the conditions of implantation, occupation and abandonment, their architecture and distribution of the finds, these constructions appear to be an original expression of gallo-roman habitations. Situated in their local and regional contexts, they reflect the process of urbanisation and social differenciation, and of the village type exploitation existence.

    Description: The so-called data deluge, along with ever-increasing technological capabilities, tantalizes geographers with exciting opportunities for spatial data analysis. These opportunities come with challenges, because data and technology, alone, cannot address the pressing questions of our world. Spatial analysis, a.k.a. spatial statistics, is a lot more than colourful maps and attractive displays: still relatively underrepresented in the Italian geography, this discipline has grown from a strictly quantitative niche to part of a critical spatial science and continues to stimulate new developments in statistics because, as we know, spatial is special. This book, published in the series “New Geographies. Work Tools”, adds spatial analysis to the Italian geographer’s toolbox. Not a how-to manual, it presents some of the core analytical issues through the redundancy of narrative language and mathematical language. It traces the journey of spatial analysis from its roots in quantitative geography, GIS, and statistics, towards the definition of its own identity and the acceptance of its own relativity and limitations. It discusses the relationship of spatial analysis with GIScience and its efforts to embed critiques within its own discourse, emphasizing the role of theory, the importance of hypothesis testing, and acknowledging the ethics surrounding the use and analysis of data. A few examples illustrate practical implementations, showing the value added by spatial statistics in yielding reliable analyses that can support management decisions. It concludes with a brief outlook on the Italian geographic literature, where spatial analysis – like elsewhere – can play a role in competently accepting today’s opportunities and challenges, in a constructive dialogue within geography as a whole.

    Description: Tracts, affiches, prospectus, pamphlets… Nombreux sont les éphémères qui accompagnent les événements collectifs, qu’il s’agisse de manifestations officielles, de crises politiques et religieuses, ou de simples faits divers. Mais les éphémères scandent aussi les événements de l’existence individuelle et quotidienne : bons points, images pieuses, menus, faire-part constituent autant de jalons qui façonnent notre mémoire et associent la vie privée aux rites sociaux. Comment les éphémères s’articulent-ils à l’événement politique, artistique, culturel ou familial ? En sont-ils la trace, le reflet, ou ce qui contribue à le construire comme tel ? Dans quelle mesure nous permettent-ils de mettre en rapport une histoire de l’événement et une histoire du quotidien ? Quelle valeur peuvent prendre, loin de leur contexte d’origine, ces documents qui en sont si fortement tributaires ? Telles sont les questions qui rassemblent ici des spécialistes venus d’horizons variés (conservateurs, chercheurs en lettres, histoire et histoire de l’art) pour montrer combien les éphémères ponctuent nos vies. Ce volume est publié dans le cadre du programme de recherche PatrimEph – La patrimonialisation des éphémères, soutenu par la Fondation des Sciences du Patrimoine.

    Description: The 43rd UID conference, held in Genova, takes up the theme of ‘Dialogues’ as practice and debate on many fundamental topics in our social life, especially in these complex and not yet resolved times. The city of Genova offers the opportunity to ponder on the value of comparison and on the possibilities for the community, naturally focused on the aspects that concern us, as professors, researchers, disseminators of knowledge, or on all the possibile meanings of the discipline of representation and its dialogue with ‘others’, which we have broadly catalogued in three macro areas: History, Semiotics, Science / Technology. Therefore, “dialogue” as a profitable exchange based on a common language, without which it is impossible to comprehend and understand one another; and the graphic sign that connotes the conference is the precise transcription of this concept: the title ‘translated’ into signs, derived from the visual alphabet designed for the visual identity of the UID since 2017. There are many topics which refer to three macro sessions: - Witnessing (signs and history) - Communicating (signs and semiotics) - Experimenting (signs and sciences) Thanks to the different points of view, an exceptional resource of our disciplinary area, we want to try to outline the prevailing theoretical-operational synergies, the collaborative lines of an instrumental nature, the recent updates of the repertoires of images that attest and nourish the relations among representation, history, semiotics, sciences.

    Description: L’annonce du décès de Serge Moscovici, le 15 novembre 2014, a suscité dans la communauté scientifique, les milieux politiques et les médias une émotion qui s’est traduite par nombre de témoignages célébrant son œuvre multiple, son engagement social ou évoquant l’histoire vécue et la personnalité qui les ont étayés. Ces témoignages ont été épars et jusqu’à présent aucune vision synthétique n’a été offerte pour cerner la richesse des apports d’une pensée dont l’empan a couvert tous les champs des sciences humaines et sociales, ouvrant des perspectives innovantes pour la recherche. Pour honorer cette figure majeure des sciences humaines et sociales, la Fondation Maison des Sciences de l’Homme a organisé, à l’initiative des fils de Serge Moscovici, un colloque international en 2017 à Paris qui a réuni des spécialistes internationaux des divers domaines auxquels cet auteur a dévolu son activité (psychologie sociale, écologie politique, sciences humaines et sociales). Le présent livre constitue une trace et un prolongement de cette initiative. Il comprend vingt textes de trente auteurs, issus de treize pays différents, influencés, marqués et inspirés par son œuvre singulière. Nous avons ajouté, en fin d’ouvrage, la reproduction d’un texte peu connu, rare et unique, l’exposé de soutenance de Serge Moscovici en 1961, ainsi que l’hommage appuyé qui lui a été rendu peu après son décès par le comité de direction du réseau international (REMOSCO) qu’il a créé, peu avant sa disparition, à la Fondation Maison des sciences de l’homme à Paris.

    Description: Perspective restitution is the inverse process of perspective and is therefore rooted in descriptive geometry; when this technique is applied to the restitution of dimensions from photos, it enters the territories of photogrammetry. The position on the border between two disciplines, different but related, has caused the solitude of perspective restitution from photos: rarely mentioned in studies on descriptive geometry, it is completely ignored in those dedicated to photogrammetry. Yet, perspective restitution is the only tool that allows us to reconstruct, from a single image, the 3D layout of a building. In his 1930 book dedicated to 'Metrophotography', Henri Deneux had highlighted, probably for the first time, the possibility of reconstructing, from a single photo, buildings or parts of them damaged by war events (Deneux referred to monuments damaged by the bombings of World War I). Today, digital drawing and modelling tools enable us to overcome many of the difficulties that affected perspective restitution from photos with traditional drawing tools. This volume illustrates the theoretical assumptions and the drawing and modelling techniques that allow us to achieve the 3D reconstruction of buildings and urban scenarios that no longer exist from one or few images.

    Description: La publication en 2013 d'une version reconstruite du texte de Kracauer Die totalitäre Propaganda (1937-1938) a renouvelé la perception que l’on pouvait avoir de cette dimension de son œuvre et de son apport à une « théorie critique de la propagande ». La réflexion sur la propagande s’inscrit dans le contexte plus vaste de l’élaboration par les exilés allemands, au tournant des années 1930-1940, d’une grille de lecture du national-socialisme, vu comme une pathologie de la modernité, ainsi que dans celui des grands projets de recherches américains sur la propagande nazie (auxquels Adorno et Kracauer ont été associés). Au sein de la nébuleuse de la « Théorie critique » Kracauer exprime, comme Benjamin, un point de vue à certains égards dissonant. À rebours d’une approche qui insiste surtout sur la continuité entre capitalisme et nazisme, il se montre particulièrement sensible à la séduction esthétique du fascisme, et à sa mise en scène d’une réalité de substitution, qui est selon lui l’expression d’une fuite en avant nihiliste : ses analyses concrètes ne portent pas tant sur les contenus du message que sur le langage même de la propagande, et la vision de la société et de l’histoire qu’elle véhicule, dans sa forme même. Le débat complexe qui se développe à cette époque entre Adorno, Benjamin et Kracauer met notamment en œuvre les catégories de « fétichisme » (Adorno), de « fantasmagorie » et d’« esthétisation du politique » (Benjamin), d’« apparence » et de « pseudo-réalité » (Kracauer). Il présente en premier lieu un intérêt historique, en tant que l’analyse du nazisme constitue pour le projet d’une théorie critique une mise à l’épreuve, qui suscite de vifs débats internes et aboutit chez Adorno et Horkheimer, dans la Dialectique de la raison (1944-1947), à une reformulation de ce projet. Mais dans un contexte aujourd’hui bien différent, les thèmes qui sont débattus entre ces protagonistes, comme celui de la dérive autoritaire du libéralisme, des manipulations de masse, de la construction médiatique du réel n’ont rien perdu de leur actualité.

    Description: Organized through the initiative of the Ministry of Culture and Communication, the symposium “Lascaux and Preservation Issues in Subterranean Environments” was held in Paris on February 26 and 27, 2009 under the chairmanship of Jean Clottes. It brought together nearly three hundred participants from seventeen countries with the goal of confronting research and interventions conducted in Lascaux Cave since 2001 with the experiences gained in other countries in the domain of preservation in subterranean environments. Twelve presentations addressed questions related to disciplines such as hydrogeology, climatology and microbiology in relation to the protection and valorization of decorated caves. The talks were followed by debates allowing the experts and all other participants to freely express themselves. This volume, which constitutes the proceedings of this symposium, is composed of the studies presented during the sessions and full transcriptions of the debates. It provides both a synthesis of the conservation activities realized at Lascaux between 2001 and 2009 and the state of research and the conditions of the cave as of 2009.

    Description: Le 5 avril 1992, un « tremblement de terre » secoue l'Italie: les résultats des élections signent l'arrêt de mort de la Démocratie chrétienne au pouvoir depuis 1945. S'interroger sur ces résultats revient à s'interroger sur la percée de la Ligue du Nord qui n'est alors qu'un « objet politique non identifié ». En se proposant d'étudier le « phénomène Ligue » dans les vallées de la Bergamasca, Lynda Dematteo nourrissait l'ambition d'identifier les racines locales de l'idéologie leghista. Sans se décourager face au repli identitaire, il lui a fallu trouver des interlocuteurs autres que ceux du discrédit ou de la langue de bois. L'idiotie politique de Umberto Bossi, le leader de la Ligue, fut, pour ainsi dire, la clé de son succès : son inexpérience a séduit des citoyens désabusés, initialement étrangers aux idées autonomistes. Son comportement s'apparente, en effet, à celui du bouffon de la tradition : il ne respecte rien ni personne, pas même le pape, son irrévérence est à la mesure de l'irresponsabilité qu'on lui prête et ses attaques sont d'autant plus efficaces qu'elles visent les institutions les plus respectées. Avec lui, la pratique politique est essentiellement du spectacle. En suivant des militants, l'auteur a, peu à peu, acquis le sentiment d'être confrontée à des manifestations contre-structurelles. Faire de ce qui n'avait été qu'une « fuite par le rire », l'objet du questionnement ethnographique s'est révélé riche de perspectives. Dans la Ligue, la réalité dépasse la fiction, aussi satirique soit-elle. La position de l'auteur a donc été de prendre ce mouvement peu au sérieux mais ses manifestations parodiques tout à fait. Adoptant cette ligne ethnographique, elle a pu se prémunir contre le spectacle indépendantiste des leghisti. Créer une « Padanie » n'est en réalité qu'une vaste farce subversive de très mauvais goût et une farce d'impuissance où se joue une revanche symbolique. L'idiotie en est le ressort. On pourrait penser que les militants, sincèrement engagés dans cette entreprise de construction identitaire, sont des « idiots utiles » ou même des idiots tout court, mais ils sont engagés sur un mode ludique et jouent de leur idiotie, au nez et à la barbe de leurs détracteurs, ceux qui croient encore à l'action politique.

    Description: The volume, dedicated to the 44th International Conference of the Italian Union for Drawing, investigates the theme of ‘Transitions’, which particularly effectively represents our time and the current condition of the discipline of Drawing. The term, beyond its generic meaning of an intermediate stage in a process in which a condition changes from one state to another, has always been used in various fields, from music to geophysics. In fact, the disciplines of drawing have always been confronted with themes and issues relating to transitions from one condition to another. The history of representation tells us of transformations, even epochal ones, relating to ‘drawing’, with all that such transitions entail: suffice it to think of the evolution of forms of representation, of instrumental apparatuses, of the mutability of supports, of the analogical-digital transition underway, of the new modes of communication on platforms, of the hypertrophic offer of images also on the net that confirms Guy Debord’s intuitions relating to the new spectacularisation of society. Similarly, representation triggers transitions in the prefiguration and communication of design, the anticipation and foreshadowing of future events.The challenges posed by the digital pose open questions whose scope can only be glimpsed, such as the relationship between drawing and the act of modelling, and the construction of new paradigms of visual language and communication. ‘Transitions’, almost implicitly, points to possible futures, the evolution of technique and the search for new modes of expression; at the same time, however, it can suggest silences and reflections in a process of connection between history, theory, criticism and construction.

    Description: Situated in South-Western Provence in the massif of Sainte-Baume, some thirty kilometres from Marseille, the Grotte des Cèdres (Var) was first excavated during the 1950s. In 1987 re-excavation took place and comprised the reexamination of conserved standing stratification. This re-examination permitted the identification of two human occupation levels, both of short periods, situated in a cool environment at the end of the Middle Pleistocene. With the identification of a new lithic industry. the discovery of the largest quantity of Tahr Rissien remains in Europe belonging to a new species, and the determination of new sub-species of Rodents and Rabbit, this site is now to be placed amongst those of major importance for the Mediterranean Europe, which is further increased by the presence of a human remain.

    Description: The volume draws attention to some elements of ambiguity in the Italian Petrarchism of the 16th century, with insights also into the early 17th century. In particular, the book analyses: the debate on some contradictory or at least problematic aspects of Petrarch’s statements on love; the tension between literary artificiality and ostentation of sincerity in love letters; the ambiguity between sacred and profane in the encomiastic field, with special reference to the metaphor of the ‘temple’ in the so-called ‘temples of poems’. The path here proposed offers an idea of Petrarchism as a phenomenon less rigid and stereotyped than usually perceived. Its ambiguities or even contradictions can be subjects of debate, without necessarily taking the path of anti-petrarchism and parodic deformation.

L’esperienza nasce dalla volontà di progettare e condividere un percorso di realizzazione di programmi di formazione sulla cittadinanza attiva e partecipata, oltre che sulla prevenzione e sul superamento di tutte le forme di discriminazione e di intolleranza, tramite l’utilizzo di metodologie che possano essere trasversalmente contestualizzate all’interno della formazione scolastica, di quella universitaria e della formazione delle professionalità educative e sociali in generale. L’approccio di ricerca-azione e l’asse Associazioni-Scuola-Università si ritrova nell’ossatura dell’intero volume che, ad una prima parte di orientamento teorico in cui ci si sofferma sugli elementi cardine del nostro discorso pedagogico (intercultura, integrazione, narrazione), fa seguire altre tre sezioni a carattere operativo-metodologico descritte da tutti gli attori protagonisti del progetto.

    Description: The ISMU annual Report on migration enters its 27th edition in 2022. Over time, the Report has become a useful reference for people working on migration, both within and outside Italy. This edition analyzes both the impact of the pandemic on migration flows and immigrants and the consequences of the Afghan crisis on migration. As the health emergency subsided in the second half of 2021, public interest on migration resurfaced along with the challenges that migration poses to Italy and the European Union. In addition to the traditional areas of interest (health, work, education, and the legal framework) and to statistical aspects (ISMU estimates that 5,576,000 foreigners live permanently in Italy as of 1st January 2021), the 27th edition of the Report devotes particular attention to the attitudes and orientations of Italian people towards migration, as well as to the experience of migrant women in terms of discrimination and positive valorization. The volume contains in-depth studies on refugees and humanitarian action, on how migration affected local elections, on alternatives to detention, and on foster care for unaccompanied foreign minors. Finally, special attention is devoted to Europe – especially to new directions in EU migration policy after Merkel – and the world – especially bilateral political initiatives involving African countries.

    Description: The book traces the main stages of third mission and social impact assessment, in the context of the (recent) history of higher education and research assessment in Italy, starting with a review of the transformation of the relationship between the University and the society. Several social drives are leading the university to a series of transformations, at the national, European and international level. The requirement to use transparency criteria and the associated returns of research spending (in accountability) has become a fundamental issue in informing government, business, citizens and society on the achieved results. The introduction of social impact assessment frameworks is also advancing research agendas towards socially relevant domains, to provide solutions in international competitiveness, social welfare, sustainability and other grand challenges. A terminological and conceptual shift is occurring from a traditional concept of technology transfer and third mission towards a broader meaning of knowledge exchange and co-creation between universities and extra-academic actors and the impact generated. However, this shift towards a transdisciplinary, trans-epistemic and inclusive evaluation framework poses new challenges to capture this complexity, requiring the adoption of new methods and tools presented in this book. The international literature and debate on practices are vital combined with trial-and-error approaches, community involvement, and targeted pilot studies. Beyond controversies, resistances, and easily contrived enthusiasms, this is what this volume tries to investigate.

Therefore, “dialogue” as a profitable exchange based on a common language, without which it is impossible to comprehend and understand one another; and the graphic sign that connotes the conference is the precise transcription of this concept: the title ‘translated’ into signs, derived from the visual alphabet designed for the visual identity of the UID since 2017. Similarly, representation triggers transitions in the prefiguration and communication of design, the anticipation and foreshadowing of future events.The challenges posed by the digital pose open questions whose scope can only be glimpsed, such as the relationship between drawing and the act of modelling, and the construction of new paradigms of visual language and communication. ‘Transitions’, almost implicitly, points to possible futures, the evolution of technique and the search for new modes of expression; at the same time, however, it can suggest silences and reflections in a process of connection between history, theory, criticism and construction.

    Description: In the 1980s and early 1990s, the municipalities of Mondeville, Grentheville, Cormelles-le-Royal and Giberville in the Calvados area of Normandy were the focus for a vast campaign of "préventive" (rescue) archeology. A few years after the close of the excavations, a considerable body of findings has amassed. By allowing us to consider areas several hundred hectares in extent, the research presented in the present volume paves the way for a full-scale approach to territorial archeology, from the emergence of the first farming communities to the metalworkers of the Late Bronze Age and Early Iron Age — a period of almost 5,000 years. We can observe the inhabitants settling, evolving slowly and progressively shaping the occupation of the plateau. By highlighting the relationships between Normandy and Brittany, the Paris Basin and the British Isles, the study enhances our understanding of the development and diffusion of the various regional cultures and sheds light on the pre- and protohistory of this part of the Caen Plain.

    Description: This volume presents over 400 descriptive bibliograpbical notices of articles publisbed betiveen 1840 and 1991 as well as the manuscripts of 70 plans and surveys carried ont betiveen 1627 and 1914. The first part, devoted to the bibliography, is organised into three cbapters : the first and most important brings together titles baving a direct relationship with excavations ; the second concems the polemic, debated betiveen 1841 and 1988, surrounding the position of Bibracte within the Eduen territory ; the third regroups guides, notes on excursions, meetings and general publications. Tbe second part of the volume brings together plans, a synthesis of several hundred manuscripts for which the originals are difficult to read and reproduce due to their bad State of conservation. These documents, of whicb certain are little known or unpublished, make this volume a precious working tool for all those who are interested in questions related to late Celtic civilisation and the beginning of romanisation.

    Description: The volume, dedicated to the 44th International Conference of the Italian Union for Drawing, investigates the theme of ‘Transitions’, which particularly effectively represents our time and the current condition of the discipline of Drawing. The term, beyond its generic meaning of an intermediate stage in a process in which a condition changes from one state to another, has always been used in various fields, from music to geophysics. In fact, the disciplines of drawing have always been confronted with themes and issues relating to transitions from one condition to another. The history of representation tells us of transformations, even epochal ones, relating to ‘drawing’, with all that such transitions entail: suffice it to think of the evolution of forms of representation, of instrumental apparatuses, of the mutability of supports, of the analogical-digital transition underway, of the new modes of communication on platforms, of the hypertrophic offer of images also on the net that confirms Guy Debord’s intuitions relating to the new spectacularisation of society. Similarly, representation triggers transitions in the prefiguration and communication of design, the anticipation and foreshadowing of future events.The challenges posed by the digital pose open questions whose scope can only be glimpsed, such as the relationship between drawing and the act of modelling, and the construction of new paradigms of visual language and communication. ‘Transitions’, almost implicitly, points to possible futures, the evolution of technique and the search for new modes of expression; at the same time, however, it can suggest silences and reflections in a process of connection between history, theory, criticism and construction.

    Description: Climate change and the need to reduce energy consumption in buildings are key topics in the political, scientific, economic and cultural debate. Since the academic year, 2010-2011, we wanted to make a debate and also our contribution with the first edition of the Master in Materials and Innovative Techniques for Sustainable Construction (MeTIES) University of Palermo together with the University Consortium for the University of Western Sicily and the Mediterranean Basin (UNISOM). The main objective of this Master is to form a professional generation who knows how to master new technologies and to rethink the way to "build". All the students of the master, in different editions, have had the opportunity to improve skills acquired during the course in workplace. The aim was to contribute to the debate on possible ways to pursue sustainable development through the training of "operators" who have the ability to identify, develop and propose possible and concrete solutions for the energy efficiency of buildings. The book contains some solutions to the needs of a sector that will be increasingly at the center of the economic and political choices of the coming decades.

    Description: A l'abri du regard des femmes, les hommes de l'île de Nouvelle-Irlande (Papouasie-Nouvelle-Guinée) passaient autrefois de longs mois à fabriquer pour leurs morts des sculptures de bois très élaborées qu'ils brûlaient ou laissaient pourrir sur place trois jours seulement après les avoir exposées sur le site funéraire. Nommées malanggan, ces spectaculaires effigies hétérogènes, dont beaucoup furent collectées avant leur destruction rituelle, font aujourd'hui partie des plus grandes collections mondiales d'art non occidental. A partir d'une importante documentation ethnographique provenant à la fois des sources anciennes et des informations récemment collectées par l'auteur, ce livre propose une interprétation de la fonction rituelle des malanggan et une analyse des droits complexes régissant leur utilisation. Destinées à évoquer le retour provisoire du défunt, ces effigies servaient à faire oublier le mort, engendré par les femmes, et à assurer sa reproduction par les hommes sous une identité permanente et mémorable. Calquée sur le processus de décomposition du cadavre, cette re-production s'inscrivait dans le cadre d'une idéologie de la régénération fondée sur l'idée que la vie naît sans fin de la mort. Chacun des nombreux types de malanggan qui s'accompagnait de rites spécifiques était associé à un clan ou lignage. Avant la destruction de l'effigie, des individus recevaient le droit et le savoir nécessaires pour diriger ultérieurement la fabrication et la mise en scène d'objets de ce type. Ainsi était assurée la pérennité du prototype mental du malanggan qui vivait dans la mémoire des hommes durant les longues périodes où il n'était pas matériellement actualisé. Parallèles aux droits fonciers claniques, les droits portant sur les malanggan circulaient sous une forme comparable à un prêt entre les clans des matrimoitiés exogames dont ils exprimaient l'interdépendance en matière de procréation.

    Description: Les Touaregs Kel Ferwan nomadisent aux portes de la vieille ville d'Agadez, déplaçant leurs lourdes tentes en nattes de doum. La tente kel ferwan, avec sa base circulaire analogue au cercle de la terre, sa forme sphérique évoquant la voûte céleste, et ses quatre piquets d'angles semblables aux quatre piliers qui, dit-on, soutiennent le ciel aux quatre coins du monde, est censée être une réplique du cosmos. Dieu en donna autrefois le plan aux Touaregs et, depuis, ces tentes toujours reconstruites selon ce modèle immuable et céleste sont transmises de mère en fille. La tente en effet appartient à l'épouse, alors que l'époux, même s'il en est le « maître », n'y est qu'un hôte. Dès qu'il commence à devenir un homme, l'adolescent déserte la tente de sa mère et mène une vie incertaine durant laquelle il partage de précaires abris de nattes avec des compagnons d'âge. Il ne réintègre une tente que lorsqu'il se marie, et un divorce ou le veuvage peut toujours le ramener à la condition précaire de l'adolescent. Cependant, les tentes appartenant à des femmes, et auxquelles toute une symbolique attribue un caractère féminin, se regroupent autour d'hommes puisque chaque campement rassemble un homme, ses fils, son épouse et ses brus. Dans le paradoxe constitué par ces campements d'hommes vivant dans des tentes appartenant à des femmes s'inscrit l'essentiel de la vie sociale touarègue, dont ce livre décrit le déroulement rythmique.

In the last few years, the AR/AI expansion and relationship have raised deep transdisciplinary speculation. Representation studies could arise an international debate as a convergence place of multidisciplinary theoretical and applicative contributions related to architecture, city, environment, tangible and intangible Cultural Heritage.     Description: Things – and even more so clothes and fabrics – possess a further way of being, a sort of cavity in which traces and footprints remain of those who use them, have used them or created them, have desired or chosen them. In addition, in their space, we find our ability to give word to their presence and ours. Clothes possess the particular ability of taking us into the world scene with our body, of getting us out of a condition of disappearance, subtraction or naked intimacy. This text recovers the poetic sense of our bonds with an original feeling that lies in the experience of the body, its symbolic values, the strength and voice of our bonds with the garments and the fabrics of the world. Clothes, from everyday objects, become world again when we learn to glimpse in them the chance of recognizing ourselves, of awakening their history and ours, of retracing and interweaving those subtle threads that allow us to speak the language of belongings. The voices in this plural text are placed within a large and durable research facility that is part of a philosophical approach to the experience aesthetics and the poetic-metaphorical aspect of existence. This book is aimed at those who have already tried or want to try to subtract things from their apparent silence, going through new educational sentences, aimed at the history of ourselves as well as the history of others, going through an everyday life pedagogy that can’t wait to have a voice, in order to create horizons of meaning that dress up and dress us up with intimacy when we realize that we know how to give - and live - new space to what is next, so close that it becomes - sometimes - invisible.

    Description: The volume, dedicated to the 44th International Conference of the Italian Union for Drawing, investigates the theme of ‘Transitions’, which particularly effectively represents our time and the current condition of the discipline of Drawing. The term, beyond its generic meaning of an intermediate stage in a process in which a condition changes from one state to another, has always been used in various fields, from music to geophysics. In fact, the disciplines of drawing have always been confronted with themes and issues relating to transitions from one condition to another. The history of representation tells us of transformations, even epochal ones, relating to ‘drawing’, with all that such transitions entail: suffice it to think of the evolution of forms of representation, of instrumental apparatuses, of the mutability of supports, of the analogical-digital transition underway, of the new modes of communication on platforms, of the hypertrophic offer of images also on the net that confirms Guy Debord’s intuitions relating to the new spectacularisation of society. Similarly, representation triggers transitions in the prefiguration and communication of design, the anticipation and foreshadowing of future events.The challenges posed by the digital pose open questions whose scope can only be glimpsed, such as the relationship between drawing and the act of modelling, and the construction of new paradigms of visual language and communication. ‘Transitions’, almost implicitly, points to possible futures, the evolution of technique and the search for new modes of expression; at the same time, however, it can suggest silences and reflections in a process of connection between history, theory, criticism and construction.

    Description: L’exploration du monde des professions constitue un analyseur majeur de la structure sociale, de ses transformations et de son ancrage dans le travail. Elle opère aujourd’hui selon quatre dimensions principales d’investigation et de théorisation, qui composent la trame des recherches nationales et des comparaisons internationales : l’analyse structurale ou interactionniste des relations de l’organisation interne d’une profession, et des relations de complémentarité et de concurrence avec les professions voisines, constituées ou émergentes ; l’approche socio-économique des caractéristiques du travail fonctionnellement divisé, et de leur cotation dans l’entreprise et sur le marché de l’emploi ; l’étude microsociologique des profils individuels d’activité et des identifications à un métier ; l’analyse institutionnaliste et constructiviste de la classification des professions, et à travers celle-ci, de l’architecture sociale. Issu d’un colloque organisé à l’initiative de la Société française de sociologie, le présent volume poursuit plusieurs objectifs. Il dresse tout d’abord un bilan critique des différents courants théoriques qui ont alimenté l’étude des professions ; il évalue la robustesse de l’outil qu’a constitué la nomenclature française des professions et catégories socioprofessionnelles mise en œuvre par l’INSEE en 1982 ; il caractérise les évolutions dans l’identification et la dénomination des professions ; il confronte différentes analyses de cas issues d’enquêtes sur des ensembles professionnels et cerne les défis que doit relever l’analyse sociologique des professions face aux transformations du travail, de son organisation et de ses marchés. On the basis of systematic surveying, soundings and the excavation of a Gallo - Roman establishment,F Trément situates the major sites of Saint-Blaise and the Fossæ Marianæ in a globally and dynamically perceived space. Using earth and life sciences (geomorphology, sedimentology, palynology…). and with recourse to texts and iconography, the archaeologist broadens his focus, to encompass the landscape in its entirety. This microregion is characterised by numerous closed depressions, which explain the high population density during the Neolithic, the Iron Age and in Antiquity, and constitute sedimentary records of the evolution of the surroundings. The author seeks to understand how the successive waterside communities adapted to this shifting and harsh environment, how they appropriated the space and set about exploiting it, more or less consciously, leaving their mark, more or less enduring.

    Description: Construction of the northern TGV line resulted in the rescue excavation of Riencourt-lès-Bapaume. For the first time, it was possible in excavate a Middle Palaeolithic open air site on an area of 10,000 m2. The preliminary contributions brought together in this volume represent analysis completed on short notice using samples drawn from abundant lithic material (approximately 86,000 pieces). The archaeological levels dispersed in the lœssic sequence of the first part of the last glacial, have yielded lithic artifacts which can be assigned to many industries which illustrate the complexity of the Middle Paleolithic. The lithic assemblage of level CA demonstrates the presence of the production of Levallois flakes and another for the production of blades. The functional analysis have shown that both flake and blade reduction technologies are associated with the specific tool functions.

    Description: The Seine-Yonne sector occupies a special place in our knowledge of Neolithic societies. Although an interface between the southern and north-eastem branches, it is also the exclusive preserve of chalk flint. Applying the "technological system" concept, the author seeks to identify the skills levels of the flint knappers, asks whether expert knappers existed, and explores the spatial breakdown of the operational chain and the methods of acquiring and distributing raw materials in order to address the question of the socio-economic organization of flint tool production. Her exploration is based on the study of twelve reference series comprising over 100.000 flint artifacts in a multivariate analysis making use, among other approaches, of cladistics, the first time this technique has ever been applied to this field. By systematically referring to anthropological and historical questions, this book constitutes an important contri­bution to the study of the development of Neolithic communities across Europe.

    Description: In this work, Dominique Sordoillet accomplishes the difficult task of rendering a previously obscure discipline accessible to everyone. This work originates from her doctoral dissertation thesis, which received unanimous praise for its methodological and scientific rigor. Drawing on elements from the earth sciences, she studied the stratigraphy of three exemplary archaeological sites. The prehistoric sites of Gardon, Montou and Saint-Alban were thus subject to a precise micromorphological analysis, which considers a stratigraphy as a sedimentary record of time. Through a classification of the deposits into two large families based on their formation processes, she distinguishes the occupation facies, created by human activities, from the abandonment facies, which are characteristic of natural sedimentary and post-sedimentary processes. Based on these sedimentological data, replaced in their chronological and cultural contexts, she proposes different occupation scenarios and interpretations of the evolution of human activities, rituals and construction. This short, well illustrated presentation is written with a simple vocabulary and includes a glossary, all of which make it an effective tool for understanding the methods and objectives of micromorphology in the direct interest of field interpretations and methods.

    Description: Le traitement cognitif de l'espace par un être vivant se décompose en différentes phases : il perçoit l'espace – ce qui implique certains mécanismes de catégorisation et d'abstraction –, se le représente, conserve en mémoire cette représentation qu'il peut rappeler et utiliser pour conduire des actions adaptées et interagir de façon optimale avec l'environnement. Ce traitement ainsi défini a déjà fait l'objet d'un grand nombre de travaux dans le domaine des sciences de la vie et de la psychologie expérimentale, de l'intelligence artificielle ou encore de la robotique. Pourtant les réalisations des sciences dites « dures » ne laissent pas de poser des questions sur lesquelles les sciences humaines et sociales sont susceptibles d'apporter un éclairage pertinent. D'une part, leur apport est de nature à renouveler la problématique cognitive de l'espace, notamment en mettant en lumière l'incidence des facteurs culturels et sociétaux sur les représentations spatiales ainsi que la complexité des interactions entre la nature de ces représentations et l'utilisation effective de l'espace depuis la conception et la gestion des cartes géographiques, jusqu'à celle de l'habitat urbain. D'autre part, ces mêmes sciences s'avèrent incontournables si l'on veut tenter de répondre aux multiples questions soulevées par la notion d'action en vue de l'étude de ses différents déterminants : le mécanisme et les représentations mis en œuvre dans la prise de décision, la programmation motrice et sa régulation dans la conscience d'agir et l'interprétation de l'action, dans son caractère multidimensionnel et évolutif, dans la dynamique des interactions et de l'action collective, etc. Les contributions ici rassemblées illustrent toutes ces perspectives, démontrant que seule une interdisciplinarité bien conduite peut permettre de répondre aux défis posés par la problématique cognitive de l'agir dans l'espace.

    Description: La sériciculture – l'élevage des vers à soie – a été pratiquée en Cévennes à partir du xiiie siècle. Françoise Clavairolle en restitue la mémoire, des débuts du xixe siècle aux années 1960. Cependant, plus que relater des savoir-faire, elle rend compte de cette pratique dans la pluralité de ses dimensions : économique, sociale et symbolique. L'auteur décrit ces multiples facettes avec une extrême minu­tie, soulignant la manière dont elles s'ajustent les unes par rapport aux autres. Après s'être livrée à une archéologie des savoirs relatifs au ver à soie, le magnan, ainsi que des savoir-faire à l'œuvre dans la sériciculture, elle met en évidence le rôle prépondérant des femmes auxquelles incombe la responsabilité de 1' « éducation » des vers à soie. Son analyse de l'organisation sociale de la sérici­culture dévoile les relations complexes qui lient les éleveurs et les filateurs. Les continuités et les mutations de la société cévenole sont ainsi saisies à travers le prisme d'une activité qui apparaît comme une clé de voûte sociale et économique. Ce faisant, Françoise Clavairolle ne cède pas à la tentation de confondre activité séricicole et culture cévenole. Inscrivant l'ana­lyse du système technique dans sa dynamique socio-historique, elle questionne la disparition de cette activité et s'interroge sur les conditions de son renouveau.

    Description: Analyzing with an ethnographic approach The Wire, one of the most important TV series on American ghettos, to understand and question the sociological perspective that emerges from the series, positioning it into the broader scientific debate. This is, in a nutshell, the work presented in the book It's all in the Game, the outcome of a laboratorial research activity carried out in 2020 by students and teachers of the Sociology of Communities and Urban Neighborhoods class, at the University of Bologna. The text is structured into four chapters, resulting from the four topics used to analysis the TV series: forms of social capital, the relationship between structural forces- culture of poverty and individual agency, neighborhood effects mechanism and the relationship between statistics and political action. Four subjects that are the core of many neighborhood- studies related researches and on which the TV series makes a clear stand. We analyzed those topics through a critical perspective, not considering them as a truth about ghettos, but as a very precise way of thinking about life in the American suburbs.

    Description: The volume, dedicated to the 44th International Conference of the Italian Union for Drawing, investigates the theme of ‘Transitions’, which particularly effectively represents our time and the current condition of the discipline of Drawing. The term, beyond its generic meaning of an intermediate stage in a process in which a condition changes from one state to another, has always been used in various fields, from music to geophysics. In fact, the disciplines of drawing have always been confronted with themes and issues relating to transitions from one condition to another. The history of representation tells us of transformations, even epochal ones, relating to ‘drawing’, with all that such transitions entail: suffice it to think of the evolution of forms of representation, of instrumental apparatuses, of the mutability of supports, of the analogical-digital transition underway, of the new modes of communication on platforms, of the hypertrophic offer of images also on the net that confirms Guy Debord’s intuitions relating to the new spectacularisation of society. Similarly, representation triggers transitions in the prefiguration and communication of design, the anticipation and foreshadowing of future events.The challenges posed by the digital pose open questions whose scope can only be glimpsed, such as the relationship between drawing and the act of modelling, and the construction of new paradigms of visual language and communication. ‘Transitions’, almost implicitly, points to possible futures, the evolution of technique and the search for new modes of expression; at the same time, however, it can suggest silences and reflections in a process of connection between history, theory, criticism and construction.
