    Description: Acta Slavica Estonica is an international series of publications on current issues of Russian and other Slavic languages, literatures and cultures. This issue of the subseries “Blokovskii sbornik” continues the series of studies started by Zara Mints in 1964. The majority of works from Section I of the book, “The Art of А. Blok in the Context of 19th–20th Century Literature,” is devoted to the study of the poet’s works, his perceptions of preceding writers’ works, and his biographical and artistic contacts with contemporaries. The articles in Section II, “Silver Age Literature: Creative and Social Strategies,” are mainly focused on artistic works and essays of modernist literati contemporary to Blok or to some extent resonating with his poetry and artistic worldview.

    Description: Le dernier roman d’Aragon, dans lequel les commentateurs ont parfois cru discerner un affaiblissement de la veine littéraire, préfigure le nouveau millénaire en cours, marqué par les effondrements multiples et la révision des cadres de pensée qui avaient paru s’imposer jusqu’alors. Théâtre/Roman traite du théâtre au propre et au figuré, dans un jeu de miroir entre les protagonistes de la représentation – acteur, metteur en scène – et le théâtre intérieur de l’écriture romanesque. La voix tragique de l’Écrivain et de ses doubles, confrontés à la faillite d’un idéal révolutionnaire néanmoins réaffirmé, trouve des échos dans d’autres œuvres du passé et d’autres époques qui l’universalisent. Le face-à-face vertigineux entre roman et théâtre, par l’orchestration poétique de la composition d’ensemble, ouvre pour le lecteur un espace inédit d’exploration, nommé ici, avec l’assentiment tacite d’Aragon, arrière-texte. Un passage de relais est suggéré : « Dans ce que je vois, il y a toujours ce que je ne vois pas ».

    Description: By the metaphorical power and the modelling power which they take, biological knowledge and its representations arouse in the XIXth century the fascination of the writers. They find there the source of new poetry, of an imaginary going beyond the positivist logic, but also of new textual forms, a poetics, even esthetics allowing to redefine the idea of ​​the "beautiful". This volume studies the impact of biological knowledge on literary creation in the 19th century, with three objectives: (1) studying the dissemination and reception of biological knowledge by 19th-century writers, paying particular attention to the work major foreigners in the matter; (2) analyze the use and functions of biological knowledge in literary texts, their transformations in terms of content, writing and poetics, which also presupposes the identification of the ideological issues of this knowledge; (3) think about the relationships or the discrepancies between the history of science and the history of literature, which sometimes reflects current debates, sometimes, on the contrary, is inscribed in older knowledge.

Konferensen organiserades av Sorbonne-universitetet i Paris och Stockholms universitet. De tjugotvå bidragen ger tillsammans en bild av de komplexa och rörliga samband och kontaktpunkter som genom historien uppstått mellan de båda länderna.     Description: Studies in Syntactics. The purpose of this book is to explore the structure of the text as such using a metalanguage derived from quantitative poetics. Grigori Utgof’s thesis is that texts should be studied statistically. The main problems addressed in his research are the problem of successivity on the formal (syntactic) plane of artistic texts, and the problem of syntactic dissimilarity. Largely prompted by Yuri Tynianov’s famous statement – „The unity of the work is not a closed, symmetrical intactness, but an unfolding, dynamic integrity. Between its elements is not the static sign of equality and addition, but the dynamic sign of correlation and integration. The form of the literary work must be recognized as a dynamic phenomenon“ (The Problem of Verse Language; translated by Michael Sosa and Brent Harvey) – Grigori Utgof demonstrates the inherent nonidentity of the intratextual order, and proceeds to the problem of measuring some translated texts’ dissimilarities. In particular, his book is an inquiry into the structure of the following eight texts: Приглашение на казнь / Invitation to a Beheading by Vladimir Nabokov, and the novel’s Estonian translation Kutse tapalavale [Invitation to the Block] by Rein Saluri; “За гремучую доблесть грядущих веков...” by Osip Mandel’shtam, and two translations of this poem into English: “In the Name of the Higher Tribes of the Future” by Robert Lowell and “For the Sake of the Resonant Valor of Ages to Come…” by Vladimir Nabokov; “Облако в штанах” (“Cloud in Trousers”) by Vladimir Mayakovsky; “Ballada [Ballade]” by Czesław Miłosz in Natalya Gorbanevskaya’s translation (“Баллада”).

    Description: Acta Slavica Estonica is an international series of publications on current issues of Russian and other Slavic languages, literatures and cultures. This volume is devoted to the interrelations of the prominent Estonian writer Jaan Kross (1920–2007) with Russian literature and culture. It includes contributions on the poetics of some of Kross' works ("The Czar's Madman", "Professor Martens' Departure", "Michelson's Matriculation", "The Third Range of Hills", "A Hard Night for Dr. Karell") and his translations from Russian (e.g. D. Samoilov's poetry and A. Griboedov's "The Misfortune of Being Clever"). Contributors include Lea Pild, Ljubov Kisseljova, Timur Guzairov, Tatiana Stepanischeva, Dmitry Ivanov, and Maria Tamm. An appendix includes the original Russian text of the autobiography of Johann Köler, the patriarch of Estonian national art and protagonist of one of Kross' novels. So far, this text has appeared only in fragments; the full version was found in the Archive of the Institute of Russian literature in St. Petersburg and is here published, with an extensive commentary, for the first time.
