    Description: Radio communications in the range of 60 GHz enable multi-Gigabit/s network access in indoor environments. Due to the propagation characteristics of such signals only very short range radio transmission is feasible. In order to distribute these signals across large distances, analog transmission over optical fiber is considered. In this work, mode-locked laser diodes serve as optoelectronic oscillators for the generation of such signals. Their system-relevant properties are studied in detail.

    Description: This reprint concerns topics on chemical, functional, and technological features of wheats to obtain wheat-based foods improved in phytochemicals. Genetic materials, from landraces to ancient and modern wheat varieties, characterized for their content of bioactive compounds, were exploited to produce superior staple foods. The study of other species allowed to identify functional ingredients, in wholemeals or in their by-products, useful in the enrichment of formulations for various cereal-based products. Further, in the optic of circular economy, it is of great interest the extraction of bioactive components from food processing waste belonging to the other crops to functionalize final products.

    Description: In recent years, the fascination with shape memory alloys (SMAs) has grown across industries such as aerospace, automotive, naval, civil, and biology. SMAs possess unique properties, including the ability to recover from deformation when heated, exhibit pseudoelastic stress-strain behavior for large deformations, and exceptional biocompatibility for bioengineering applications. However, a comprehensive understanding of critical characteristics like transformation temperature and stress values is necessary to fully utilize SMAs. The shape memory effect, where SMAs regain their original shape after deformation under specific thermal conditions, has driven innovative applications in various sectors. In aerospace, SMAs are used in wing structures and actuation systems, enabling morphing and improving aerodynamics. In healthcare, they are integrated into orthopedic devices, simplifying surgical procedures and providing necessary support. The automotive industry also benefits from SMAs, using them in seatbelts and vibration damping systems for enhanced safety and comfort.     Description: Mg alloy is the lightest metallic structural material and possesses the advantages of high specific strength, high specific stiffness, good electromagnetism shield, good damping capacity, good machinability, and easy recycling, etc. Therefore, it has extremely broad application prospects and has drawn considerable interest in the fields of automobile, electronics, electrical appliances, transportation, aerospace, and aviation. In addition, Mg alloys are gradually showing application potential in emerging industries, serving as biodegradable metals in the biomedical field, functional material for hydrogen storage, and so on.     Description: Anthropologists have been appearing as key expert witnesses in native title claims for over 20 years. Until now, however, there has been no theoretically-informed, detailed investigation of how the expert testimony of anthropologists is formed and how it is received by judges. This book examines the structure and habitus of both the field of anthropology and the juridical field and how they have interacted in four cases, including the original hearing in the Mabo case. The analysis of background material has been supplemented by interviews with the key protagonists in each case. This allows the reader a unique, insider’s perspective of the courtroom drama that unfolds in each case. The book asks, given the available ethnographic research, how will the anthropologist reconstruct it in a way that is relevant to the legal doctrine of native title when that doctrine gives a wide leeway for interpretation on the critical questions: what is the relevant grouping, what can be counted as a traditional law and when has there been too much change of tradition? How will such evidence be received by judges who are becoming increasingly sceptical about experts tailoring their evidence to suit the party which called them? This book answers these questions by assuming that there is more at stake here than the mere performance of roles. Rather, there is a complex interaction of distinct social fields each with its own habitus, and individual actors are engaged in an active and constructive agency, however subtle, which the painstaking research for this book uncovers.

    Description: Papers collected in the present Special Issue relate to the field of sericulture. They cover different aspects based on a very ancient human agricultural activity, taking into consideration classical agronomic aspects, such as the impact of feeding on silk quality and sericulture in different parts of the world.     Description: Metalliferous minerals play a central role in the global economy. They will continue to provide the raw materials we need for industrial processes. Significant challenges will likely emerge if the climate-driven green and low-carbon development transition of metalliferous mineral exploitation is not managed responsibly and sustainably. Green low-carbon technology is vital to promote the development of metalliferous mineral resources shifting from extensive and destructive mining to clean and energy-saving mining in future decades.     Description: ste libro es expresión de las investigaciones realizadas por seis integrantes de la Línea Contextos, Prácticas Políticas y Políticas Públicas como parte del Programa Posdoctoral en Ciencias Sociales, Niñez y Juventud. Los trabajos que componen el segundo libro colectivo de esta línea fueron producidos entre el 2014 y el 2017 y abordan diferentes dimensiones de las vidas de niñas, niños y jóvenes de América Latina desde una perspectiva situada que, siendo rigurosa, asume el compromiso intelectual y político de aportar a la transformación de las condiciones en las que producen sus existencias. Si bien cada uno de los seis capítulos corresponde a investigaciones singulares llevadas a cabo por cada uno de los posdoctores en tres países de América Latina (Argentina, Brasil y Colombia), estos se alimentaron de los intercambios colectivos sostenidos en el espacio de trabajo que compartimos en la Línea del Posdoctorado. De esta manera, el libro puede leerse como el encuentro de seis textos con unidad y lógica en sí mismos, pero también como obra única en la que reverberan los diálogos sostenidos en el espacio común de trabajo que construimos en estos años. En este sentido, este texto es resultado de un proceso que demandó casi dos años de debates y reelaboraciones y que pasó por diversos momentos y circunstancias antes de que se hiciera posible su publicación. Agradecemos entonces la paciencia y la dedicación de las autoras —el azar o los procesos de igualdad de género quisieron que todas las autoras fueran mujeres— así como los comentarios y aportes de los otros colegas que integran la línea, cuyos trabajos ya han sido publicados o se editarán pronto. Asimismo, queremos agradecer al equipo de trabajo del posdoctorado que radica en el Centro de Estudios de Niñez y Juventudes (Cenju) del Cinde y la Universidad de Manizales (Sandra, Daniela, Julián), a los coordinadores de las otras líneas del programa (Toya, Patricia, Karina, Silvinha, José Manuel, Héctor Fabio, Fernanda, Myriam), a Sara Victoria Alvarado, a María Camila Ospina por aceptar con generosidad hacer el prólogo, a las instituciones coeditoras y, especialmente, a Lucía Rangel, quien compartió la coordinación de la línea junto a Pablo Vommaro hasta fines del 2016, momento en el que se incorporó Alejandra Barcala a este espacio. Esperamos que esta sea una manera de integrarse, al menos por algunos momentos, a la comunidad que constituimos en el Posdoctorado desde el 2010, que se potencia día a día con la publicación de obras como esta y con los ecos y debates que pueda generar.
