Description: This book is an analysis of the literary censorship that Acción Cató?lica (AC) implemented in Spain, through the Secretariat of Bibliographic Orientation (SOB) during the 1940s. The text delves into this system of trial and cultural control to demonstrate that AC imposed its own ideology on its members, redefining literature until turning it into another tool of its social indoctrination. As a consequence, it is demonstrated that AC questioned? the discursive authoritarianism of the Franco regime and, based on the work of literary criticism and the analyzed censor reports, a new perspective is provided from which to reconsider the relationship between Catholicism and the dictatorship. The study of the disagreements and ideological conflicts that arose within the regime reveals the existence of differentiated discourses in both institutions, thus breaking the illusion of homogeneity and apparent harmony. The work is presented as a novel approach to the strategies of cultural repression adopted by the dictatorship and the Church in the postwar period that opens an alternative door for the analysis of the mechanisms of intellectual and social control in that period and, in addition, it connects the existing bibliography about the changing and complex nature of Francoism with cultural studies.

Description: How are the words and bodies arranged in the poem? How do they come into contact from their latitude, longitude and depth, from the verbal substance that defines them? Fragile matter: poetics for the 21st century in Latin America and Spain aspires to answer these questions through various approaches to current poetry, taking into account the limits, conflicts and new conditions of possibility of our being in common. To do so, several studies are proposed on the dissident aesthetics that are making their way on both sides of the Atlantic, on the latest performative drifts of lyrical discourse and the implications of our growing transmediality. Added to them is a series of inquiries about the poets of the 21st century and their intervention of the word through proposals that disturb the structure of the intimate and the collective, sexual identity or the family, provoking alternative forms of subjectivity. Starting from different national, cultural and historical horizons, these essays analyze the politics of the common, understood as a symbolic and material practice that runs through poetic discourse. They explore their space for emancipation and their work with the new articulations of violence. They think of poetry and its fragility as a condition for resistance.

Description: This volume collects works by Hispanists from different origins: from researchers whose mother tongue is Spanish and who carry out their work in the Hispanic world, whether peninsular or American, to those who work in regions where Spanish is a minority language and/or or who have acquired Spanish as a second language. This joyous diversity finds its expression in the works that make up this volume, highlighting one of the central objectives of the AIH: the academic and plural dialogue between the Hispanicisms of the world, an enriching and vivifying dialogue that knows no borders. Doing so for the first time outside of Europe and America takes on a very special significance, by inserting this multiplicity of perspectives into the present and much-needed dialogue between our peoples and regions. The printed book exclusively includes the opening speeches and plenary presentations, which were given by Myrna Solotorevsky, Patrizia Botta, Angela Schrott, Juan Diego Vila, Manuel Rivero Rodríguez and James Valender. The other papers are in open access

Description: In recent decades, research focused on the production of knowledge and cultural transfers in Latin America in a transregional context has intensified. Its conception is largely based on the profile of the IAI, which is characterized by being not only a knowledge archive, but also a place of knowledge production and cultural and scientific exchange with and about Latin America. This volume brings together a series of articles by specialists in these subjects, most of whom worked at said institution as visiting researchers. It is the result, then, of an intense dialogue between them and the permanent researchers of the IAI. The volume critically discusses theoretical concepts, methodologies, and research on specific processes in the analysis of the production and circulation of knowledge, and cultural transfers in Latin America, from an intra- and trans-regional point of view.

Description: Lope de Vega's lyrical career has been studied through different authorial masks that the poet adopts according to times and interests. Showing off the nickname by which he was known in life, the Phoenix reinvents himself and succeeds himself: poet of ballads, poet of Petrarchan songbooks, sacred, courtier, and even burlesque. Of all of them, the courtly or cultured Lope has not received the attention it deserves, since not even the masterpieces of that period have received updated critical editions. We are speaking, then, of a poet who, after the accession to the throne of Felipe IV, puts a pike in the publishing market with two works of difficult generic taxonomy: La Filomena (1621) and La Circe (1624). With them, Lope delves into literary subgenres little traveled by him, such as the Cervantine-style short novel. But what motivates such an authorial turn in the twenties? What is Lope pursuing with these two peculiar volumes and what strategies does he use to build this renewed self? This study addresses all these questions, and others of greater depth, whose hypotheses are ultimately intended to outline a clearer profile of the author in his full maturity

Description: Roberto Arlt is considered one of the most important Argentine writers of the first half of the 20th century. Despite his fame as a novelist and author of etchings, his rich production of dramatic works remains little known and little performed on stage in Argentine and international theaters. With this volume we try to alleviate this partial oblivion through the critical edition of one of his most important theatrical pieces: Africa. The edition compares the text published so far with the typewritten version found in the Ibero-Amerikanisches Institut in Berlin and which is part of the Arlt legacy of that institution. But the volume is more than a mere traditional critical edition, since, apart from the two versions, it includes a series of materials that facilitate the understanding of the text and the context through its paratexts. The importance of the piece within Arlt's theatrical production is perceived when considering the number of these paratexts, which include several stories, etchings and photographs that are based on the writer's trip to Europe and North Africa in 1935. All They indicate important changes in the perception of both Argentine society and foreign culture by Arlt himself, a perception that functions as a mirror to understand one's own.

Description: The Cold War founded a bipolar political order and generated a form of dichotomous thinking, placing the world under the constant threat of nuclear catastrophe. Although it divided Europe, it was nevertheless in the then so-called Third World where the conflict claimed its numerous victims, many of them in Latin America. The cultural field was also the scene of the superpower struggles for hegemony, leaving its mark on the intense intertwining between Latin America and Europe.Although the bipolar context is essential to understand the developments of almost five decades, there is still little research that investigates the circumstances and consequences of the conflict for the cultural agents who have historically shaped the common cultural space on both sides of the Atlantic. This volume brings together case studies that critically explore various aspects of that long conflict from a transatlantic research geography. From the perspectives of literary and gender studies, musicology, global history and art ory, the works configure an interdisciplinary panorama of the dynamics of the formation of intellectual and artistic networks, of action and solidarity, and of materialization of geographic nodes. Protagonists, associations, institutions and their networks allow us to explore intellectual and artistic positions, reconstruct the bipolar order broken down to the phenomena of personal and daily cultural life, and also those spaces of a certain autonomy not limited to the logic of the political orders of the superpowers
