Description / Table of Contents:
Professor Frenkel's book on the theory of liquids deals with a wider subject than that of liquids alone. Liquids are in his view much more closely akin to solids than to gases, but have a structure in which the long-range order of the solid has been lost. The book therefore includes a discussion of all types of disorder in solids, of the purely thermal displacements of the atoma, of the motion of interstitial atoms and ions, and of many types of transition from an ordered to a disordered state. The theory of these transitions, which has been developed fully, is discussed at length in this book and forms an introduction to the problems as yet unsolved of the transition to the liquid phase. There are also sections dealing with the specific heats of liquids, diffusion in liquids, and similar subjects.
