    Description: Music plays an important role in many religions and in a variety of religious contexts. Music and Religion: Texts on Music in Religion and Religion in Music takes a look at the intersections between music and religion. We experience religion in music, and in religion we encounter musical expression. Although music and religion are unquestionably mutually pervasive, we can also come across gaps between them: Is it possible to move beyond a musical experience toward a religious one without having to hop over this gap? And is there any direct route from religion into music as an acoustic phenomenon? Without a religious interpretation of the music remaining? There is a wealth of research about music and religion, but little on how they meet. That is what this anthology seeks to remedy. Music and Religion will be relevant for anyone with an interest in encounters between these two phenomena. It will be especially relevant for students in performing, composing and scientific music education, as well as theology and religious studies. The anthology has been edited by Henrik Holm (associate professor in education at Oslo Metropolitan University and professor in philosophy at Rudolf Steiner University College) and Øivind Varkøy (professor in music education and music sciences at the Norwegian Academy of Music and professor II in music at Oslo Metropolitan University).

Musikk og religion: Tekster om musikk i religion og religion i musikk setter søkelyset på møtepunkter mellom musikk og religion. Mennesker erfarer religion i musikken, og i religionen møter mennesket i musikalske uttrykk. Selv om musikk og religion utvilsomt gjennomtrenger hverandre, kan vi også støte på gap mellom dem: Er det mulig å overskride en musikalsk erfaring henimot det religiøse uten å måtte hoppe over dette gapet? Og finnes det en vei fra religionen direkte inn i musikken som klangfenomen? Forblir det ikke bare en religiøs fortolkning av musikk? Det finnes mye forskning på musikk og religion, men lite om hvordan de møtes. Denne antologien forsøker å gjøre noe med dette. Musikk og religion retter seg mot alle med interesse for møter mellom disse to livsfenomener. Den vil være særlig aktuell for studenter innenfor utøvende, skapende og vitenskapelige musikkutdanninger, teologi og religionsvitenskap.     Description: Migration and mobility transform the daily lives and surroundings of those who travel and relocate, as well as the places they move from and to. This anthology presents some of the disparate perspectives, theories and methodologies that characterize research on migration and mobility. Through the book’s eleven chapters the authors shed light on international research on migration and Norwegian research on transience and tourism. The contributions include empirical studies of immigrant workers and their welfare, marginalization in the job market and opportunities for successors, social mobility in the new country, repro-migration, and local community responses and adaptation to mobility. The book also provides a comprehensive discussion of Norwegian integration policy and methodological challenges and blind spots in Norwegian migration research.     Description: Hans Nielsen Hauge established and led at the end of the 18th century Norway's first nationwide popular movement, a low church network that would leave its mark on everyday life, business development and politics in the transition from absolute monarchy to representational government. People called themselves Haugians long after Hauge's death in 1824. It was a spiritual awakening on a scale that deserves considerable room when we write the history of modern Norway. This book provides a new perspective on the roots of the Hauge movement in the religious mentality of the 18th century, on how it functioned in its most radical phase up to 1814, and on the importance of the network for economic modernization and political mobilization in the subsequent decades. Retrospective interpretations of Hauge's complex endeavor are also explored. In sum, the nine chapters provide a broader understanding of the Hauge movement and the era in which it flourished. We hope that the book also sheds light on the state of Norway's people, government and religiosity today, over 250 years after Hauge's birth. The book has been edited by research fellow Eli Morken Farstad and associate professor Kristian Holen Nymark, both historians at the University of South-Eastern Norway.

En slik vekkelse må få stor plass når vi skriver historien om det moderne Norge. Denne boka gir nye perspektiv på Hauge-bevegelsens røtter i 1700-tallets religiøse mentalitet, på hvordan vekkelsen virket i sin mest radikale fase fram mot 1814, og på nettverkets betydning for økonomisk modernisering og politisk mobilisering framover i hundreåret. Ettertidens fortolkning av Hauges mangslungne virksomhet blir også lagt under lupen. I sum gir de ni kapitlene en bredere forståelse av Hauge-bevegelsen og tiden den virket i.     Description: In her well-known song, ‘Når himmelen faller ned’ (‘When the Sky Falls Down’), the Norwegian musician Anne Grete Preus described snow as ‘celestial tipp-ex’ and a mighty ‘wonder’. But what exactly is it that snow corrects? And what gives snow its power? Snow’s Formulas: A Natural Phenomenon in Literature attempts to answer these and similar questions by discussing the motif of snow in the context of modernization processes marked by increasing instrumentalization and rationalization. Snow transforms landscapes and defies modernity’s innovations; it simultaneously obscures and accentuates, and also enchants. This process can be described in different ways: as the sublime’s breakthrough in a philosophical, aesthetic sense, or, in a poetological sense, as non-mimetic writing. This strategy plays out in language, and the objective of this study has been to investigate snow’s rhetoricity and how literary depictions of snow can be in response to the challenges of modernity. The book includes readings of texts by H.C. Andersen, Olaf Bull, Hans Børli, Paul Celan, Alexander Kielland, Jonas Lie, Tor Ulven and Tarjei Vesaas, among others. The relationship between snow and modernity is illustrated from a dual perspective. Emphasis is placed on the individual’s position and self-perception within the process of modernization, as well as on the aesthetical problems that arise when writing about snow. Snow makes a white surface; it ‘overwrites’ the ground and encourages a non-mimetic poetry. Snow can be said to be an engine of modern aesthetics that does not take language’s referential aspect for granted.

    Description: How are school meals organized in the Scandinavian countries? And in what ways can new pedagogical practice lead to better school meal programs for students and a better understanding of the importance, for health and sustainable development, of the food offered through schools? Learning Through Food and Meals in Primary School takes a look at school meal programs in Denmark, Sweden and Norway with the objective of providing educators and teacher-education students an understanding of school meals from public health and nutritional perspectives, as well as a sense of the potential for teaching through school meals. The book is written in Danish, Swedish and Norwegian, and is structured in three parts, presenting new research from each of the three countries. Thematically, the chapters range from studies of different school meal initiatives to analyses of the social, democratic, and pedagogical significance of school meals. Through the different contributions, the book presents both experiences of how teaching through food can be done in a practical sense and an argument for its importance in an overall pedagogical and didactic perspective. The book will be relevant for anyone who is interested in food and meals served in primary schools, such as teachers, researchers, politicians and school administrators. The authors include researchers, educators and primary school administrators.     Description: This anthology constitutes the primary report resulting from a three-year innovation project in which the main focus has been on collaboration between preschools and primary schools, and the ‘PP-tjeneste’ (pedagogisk-psykologisk tjeneste, a public service that assists in evaluation of children with special educational and/or psychological needs and helps those working in the educational setting make appropriate accommodations for those needs), and establishing a program in which they jointly develop their competence regarding inclusivity. Researchers from NLA University College, the University of Stavanger and Statped (a national service for special needs education) have formed a partnership to support a range of innovation processes as well as track their progress through data collection and analysis, and thereby respond to the profile set forth in the national strategy, ‘Kompetanseløftet for spesialpedagogikk og inkluderende praksis’ (Enhancements in special pedagogic and inclusive practices), initiated during the project period. The experiences presented in this anthology will therefore be relevant and of interest to many in both the higher educational sector and the municipalities.
    Description: Denne antologien utgjør hovedrapporten etter et tre-årig innovasjonsprosjekt som har hatt hovedfokus på samarbeidet mellom barnehage/skole og PP-tjenesten, og etablering av et samarbeid der man i fellesskap utvikler kompetanse for inkluderende praksis. Forskere ved NLA Høgskolen, Universitetet i Stavanger og Statped har gått inn i et partnerskap der man både har støttet de ulike innovasjonsprosessene og fulgt prosessene gjennom datainnsamling og analyse. Slik samsvarer dette innovasjonsprosjektet på flere måter med profilen i den nasjonale strategien Kompetanseløftet for spesialpedagogikk og inkluderende praksis, som er iverksatt i løpet av prosjektperioden. Erfaringene som presenteres i antologien vil derfor være relevante og aktuelle både for aktører i universitets- og høgkolesektoren og i kommunene.

    Description: Local police departments receive a vast number of calls annually from the healthcare sector, the education sector, the Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration, other social service agencies, families, friends, neighbors and others, expressing concern that individuals or groups might be, or are at risk of becoming, violent extremists. The majority are unwarranted. Yet Norway has, in recent years, experienced that extremists can inflict a great deal of damage, pain, fear and death – not just on individual victims, but on society as a whole. How can the relevant authorities intervene in time to prevent such events from occurring without compromising important democratic values? This book takes a look at how local police perceive and carry out their role in the tremendously complex and demanding field we call ‘concern work’ (bekymringsarbeidet). The police face complicated dilemmas on a daily basis: What is the relationship between extreme behavior and expression, and extremist violence? Where are the boundaries between conservative and extreme forms of religion? Is there an appropriate moment for the police to confront persons who have not (yet?) broken any laws? Concern Work. Police Prevention of Radicalization and Violent Extremism will appeal to researchers and practitioners working with prevention initiatives, and anyone interested in radicalizaion and violent extremism, as well as democracy, freedom of speech and the rule of law.

Politiets forebygging av radikalisering og voldelig ekstremisme henvender seg til forskere og praktikere i forebyggingsfeltet, og til alle som er opptatt av radikalisering og voldelig ekstremisme, så vel som rettssikkerhet, demokrati og ytringsfrihet.

    Description: Accessibility to art and cultural activities is a topic with increasing attention. Most municipalities in the Scandinavian countries have kulturskoler (extra curricular schools of music and performing arts) that offer training and experiences in – and through – art and culture subjects for children and young people. But the users of these institutions are not representative for the society around them. The majority of the children and young people who actually use the kulturskole come from middle-class homes and have well-educated parents. There is therefore an increasing and absolutely necessary attention in the municipalities on how kulturskoler can reach new target groups, ensure more fair representation and develop as institutions being inclusive forces in the local community. The development project ""Kulturskolen as an inclusive force in the local community (KIL)"" had this focus. In this anthology, there are nine independent peer-reviewed research articles with topics that are relevant for those municipalities wanting to develop their potential as inclusive forces further. The book is suitable for both researchers, students or teachers associated with the didactic field of art, but also kulturskole leaders, elementary school teachers and others who are interested in how the kulturskole can function as an inclusive force in the local community
    Description: Tilgjengelighet til kunst og kulturaktivitet er et tema med økende oppmerksomhet. De fleste kommuner i de skandinaviske landene har musikk- og kulturskoler som tilbyr opplæring og opplevelser i og gjennom kunst- og kulturfag for barn og unge. Men kulturskoleelevene avspeiler ikke samfunnet rundt, for størstedelen av de barn og unge som faktisk bruker kulturskolene kommer fra middelklassehjem og har godt utdannede foreldre. Det er derfor et økende og helt nødvendig søkelys på hvordan kulturskolene kan nå nye målgrupper og sikre en bedre representasjon. Utviklingsprosjektet Kulturskolen som inkluderende kraft i lokalsamfunnet (KIL) hadde dette søkelyset. I denne antologien finnes ni selvstendige fagfellevurderte forskningsartikler med tematikk som er relevant for å kunne utvikle dette potensialet videre. Boken passer for både forskere, studenter eller lærere tilknyttet det kunstfagdidaktiske utdanningsfeltet, men også kulturskoleledere, lærere og andre som interesserer seg for hvordan kulturskolen kan bli en inkluderende kraft.

    Description: Originally developed by the Canadian sociologist Dorothy E. Smith, institutional ethnography is an approach to research that aims to explore and challenge power relations in society. In Norway and the other Nordic countries, the approach is used by researchers in a variety disciplines and professional fields. In Experiences with Institutional Ethnography, we gain insight into several different researchers’ motivation for, experiences with and reflections on delving into and using institutional ethnography in their own research. We gain insight into specific research processes and their attendant methodological approaches, into experiences of using key concepts from institutional ethnography, and into reflections on the researcher's role. This book will be a useful tool for researchers, master’s students and research fellows who utilize – or are considering utilizing – institutional ethnography in their work.
