    Description: In der vorliegenden Fallstudie zur ländlichen Entwicklung in Hochgebirgen werden aktuelle Fragen der Hochgebirgsforschung problematisiert. Ausgehend von Ansätzen der Geographie des Hochgebirges sowie der Geographischen Entwicklungsländerforschung stehen in dieser empirischen Untersuchung der Talschaft Hunza im Karakorum Entwicklungsprozesse und ihre Träger unter besonderer Berücksichtigung der Wechselwirkung zwischen externen Eingriffen und Veränderungen in der internen Wirtschafts- und Gesellschaftsstruktur im Vordergrund des Interesses. Die Grundlage bildet eine diachronische Analyse, in der vier entscheidende historische Phasen der Austauschbeziehungen Hunzas mit den Nachbarregionen herausgearbeitet wurden. Ausführungen zur ethnischen Differenzierung, zu ländlichen Siedlungsmustern, zur Bevölkerungsentwicklung und zur natürlichen Raumausstattung liefern den Rahmen für eine Analyse der sozio-ökonomischen Transformationen in Hunza.

Die hierbei gewonnenen Parameter lassen sich nicht in allen Fällen auf konsequente, wissenschaftlich hinreichend fundierte Definitionen zurückführen. Die Problematik, die Teilen des kartographischen Begriffsapparates, insbesondere bei der Ausgliederung von Kartentypen, und den sich hieraus ableitenden inhaltlichen und darstellerischen Aspekten innewohnt, bildete den Ansatzpunkt für die vorliegende Arbeit.

Die tiefgreifenden Veränderungen in der Lebens- und Wirtschaftsweise der Beduinen werden in der vorliegenden Arbeit dargestellt und auf entwicklungstheoretischer Grundlage analysiert.

    Description: Die vorliegende Untersuchung greift den Ruf nach Differenzierung auf und versucht ihm durch eine Fallstudie aus Sambia, die nach den spezifischen Erscheinungsformen und Auswirkungen der (vermeintlichen) Krise dort fragt, entgegenzukommen. Teil A legt hierfür die einleitenden und konzeptionellen Grundlagen: Beginnend mit einer Erörterung zu der in der Literatur vielfach zitierten "Abkoppelung" Afrikas, befasst sich der Abschnitt 1.1 mit diesem in jüngerer Zeit als zentral erachteten Krisenphänomen auf globaler Ebene. Abschnitt 1.2 widmet sich dem mit der Krise Afrikas verbundenem Komplex "Strukturanpassung", der als Krisenlöser oder aber -auslöser heftig umstritten ist. In jedem Fall trifft zu, dass diese Reformen zum Synonym für die Wirtschafts- und Sozialpolitik der afrikanischen Staaten (und nicht nur dieser) aufstiegen. Angesichts der begrifflichen Unschärfen in der gegenwärtigen Debatte um den Kontinent bemüht sich Abschnitt 1.3 um eine Klärung des Terminus Krise unter Bezugnahme auf einschlägige theoretische Überlegungen; hierbei werden auch entsprechende Anregungen aus der Geographie aufgegriffen. Der darauffolgende Abschnitt 1.4 bezieht sich auf verallgemeinerbare wissenschaftliche Erkenntnisse über die (Überlebens-)Strategien von Menschen in Afrika und inwiefern ihre Reaktionen zur Überwindung von Krisen geeignet bzw. hinreichend sind. Diese (und weitere) Grundlagen erlauben es, in Abschnitt 1.5 die afrikanische Krise grundsätzlich in Zweifel zu ziehen. Daraus werden schließlich in Kap. A2 die zusammenfassenden Fragestellungen für die empirische Analyse (Teil B) abgeleitet.

    Description: Die vorliegende Arbeit sucht mit Hilfe qualitativ-interpretierender Methoden nach Antworten auf die Frage, wie und warum es kleinen dörflichen Gemeinden im Berliner Umland nach der politischen Wende gelang, entgegen den Vorstellungen der überörtlichen Planungsträger größere Wohnungsbauprojekte zu realisieren. Sie geht dabei von folgenden grundlegenden Annahmen aus: 1) Jede Entscheidung für oder gegen ein neues Wohngebiet in den suburbanen Gemeinden wirkt sich auf die Entwicklung einer Stadtregion insgesamt aus, 2) Spezifische Entwicklungspfade von Stadtregionen im allgemeinen und den suburbanen Gemeinden im Besonderen lassen sich nicht nur auf exogene Einflussfaktoren zurückführen und daher durch systemtheoretische Ansätze alleine nicht befriedigend erklären, 3) Den Berliner Umlandgemeinden stand in den ersten Jahren nach dem Fall der Mauer ein sehr großer Spielraum für die Bauleitplanung zur Verfügung, der eine Suburbanisierung begünstigte. 4) Ein endogenes Steuerungsdefizit beeinträchtigte in dieser Zeit die Durchsetzung von landes- und regionalplanerischen Zielen und Konzepten gegenüber sehr wachstumsfreudigen kleinen Kommunen.

Neuere Methoden für komplexe Planungsprobleme wurden bisher von den Praktikern wenig angenommen und folgende Argumente gegen die Anwendung dieser Planungsmethoden angeführt: 1) Tradierte Methoden geben dem Planer mehr individuelle Sicherheit und werden deshalb beibehalten, 2) implizite Aussagen der Planer machen die Lösung eines Planungsproblems für Planungsbeteiligte nicht exakt nachvollziehbar und bieten, je nach Diskussionslage, vielfältige Möglichkeiten der Interpretation durch den Planer, 3) es bestehen erhebliche Zweifel, ob sich alle erforderlichen Elemente der Untersuchungskategorien einer Lösung exakt erfassen und vor allem nachvollziehbar bewerten lassen, 4) die Planung wird durch Planungsmethoden für komplexe Probleme nicht einfacher, sondern diffiziler. Damit wächst der erforderliche wirtschaftliche Aufwand der Planer, 5) Methoden für komplexe Planungssysteme tragen zur Verunklärung auch scheinbar einfach erfassbarer Probleme bei. Das Ergebnis ist durch eine verwissenschaftlichte Darstellung manipulierbar.

Hiermit war eine quantitative und qualitative Erweiterung der touristischen Infrastruktur in der Region verbunden. Dies führte zu einer starken Zunahme der internationalen Touristenankünfte seit Ende der 80er Jahre. In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird – differenziert nach unterschiedlichen Tourismusformen – untersucht, welchen Beitrag der internationale Tourismus zur Regionalentwicklung auf Lombok leistet, welche Verflechtungen mit vor- und nachgelagerten Wirtschaftsbereichen in der Region bestehen und inwieweit dies zu einer Nutzung und Inwertsetzung der regional verfügbaren Potentiale beiträgt. Um Aussagen über die Verflechtungen des Tourismus mit der regionalen und lokalen Wirtschaft in Abhängigkeit von der Art des Tourismus machen zu können, wurden für die empirischen Erhebungen die drei touristischen Zentren Senggigi (Tourismus eines gehobenen bis mittleren Standards), Gili Air (Tourismus eines mittleren bis einfachen Standards) und Kuta (Tourismus eines einfachen Standards) ausgewählt.

    Description: Durch die Kolonialisierung wurden in ganz Afrika Stämmen, die nicht nur kulturell heterogen, sondern vielfach auch Konkurrenten um wirtschaftliche Ressourcen und politische Dominanz sind, zu politischen Einheiten zusammengefasst. Eine Konkurrenz besteht sowohl zwischen Gruppen gleicher Wirtschaftsweise als auch zwischen sesshaften und nomadischen Ethnien. Die vorliegende Arbeit legt vor allem Wert auf die Vermittlung des Zusammenhangs zwischen dem in den von nomadischen Stämmen besiedelten Gebieten ablaufenden Wandel und der in den wirtschaftlichen Kernräumen stattfindenden Entwicklung. Daher wird der Analyse der Entwicklungsziele, die mit der Erschließung der ariden und semiariden Gebiete verfolgt werden, sowie der zu diesem Zweck konzipierten Entwicklungsstrategien und -maßnahmen und ihrer Realisierung ein historischer Abriss des Entwicklungsverlaufs in diesen beiden Wirtschaftsräumen vorangestellt. Dazu scheint es sinnvoll, zunächst auf das räumliche Gefüge der nomadischen und der sesshaften Stämme in der Vorkolonialzeit und auf die zu dieser Zeit wirksamen Faktoren und Prozesse einzugehen, um vor diesem Hintergrund das Auseinanderbrechen der bestehenden räumlichen und interaktionalen Strukturen infolge des Eingreifens einer überlegenen externen Macht und die Herausbildung neuer Raummuster sowie sozioökonomische Veränderungen nachvollziehen zu können.

Weil aus dem Stoff der Ozeanuntergründe die Geosynklinalen hinabbauend Orogene schaffen und den Kontinenten anschmieden, bieten auch die Ozeanfluren einst und jetzt wichtige Hinweise auf Keimanlagen dar. Es wird eine Ontogenie der Erdrindenstrukturen angestrebt.

    Description: Das Konzept der Geschlechtersegregation (〈i〉purdah〈/i〉), das das Zusammenleben von Frauen und Männern im städtischen und ländlichen Raum Pakistans regelt, wird in seiner besonderen Bedeutung für Frauen untersucht. Nach einer allgemeinen Einführung über die auf die Lebensbedingungen von Frauen wirkenden rechtlichen und politischen Rahmenbedingungen folgt die Darstellung ausgewählter Indikatoren (Sexualproportionen, Schulbildung und Erwerbsbeteiligung), um die gesellschaftliche Position von Männern und Frauen vergleichend einzuschätzen. Die Indikatoren weisen auf eine Benachteiligung von Frauen im Bereich der Gesundheitsversorgung und der Schulbildung hin. Im ländlichen Pakistans können weniger als 10 % der weiblichen Bevölkerung lesen und schreiben. Die Mortalitätsraten sind für Mädchen in den risikoreichen Lebensjahren bedeutend höher, und zwischen 80 bis 90 % aller Mütter leiden aufgrund unzureichender antenataler Versorgung unter Anämie. Schwerpunkt der Arbeit bildet die Darstellung empirischer Fallbeispiele, die die Lebens- und Arbeitsbedingungen von Frauen in einer peripheren ländlichen Region des südlichen Punjab nachvollziehbar aufzeigen. In drei – recht unterschiedlich ausgestatteten – Dörfern der Division Bahawalpur wird zunächst die Teilhabe von Frauen aus landbesitzenden, Pächter-‚ Kleinbauern- und landlosen Familien an den vielfältigen landwirtschaftlichen Produktionsabläufen untersucht.

    Description: Seit Jahrhunderten verlief die Entwicklung in der Mani offensichtlich anders als im übrigen Griechenland und auch die letzten Jahrzehnte brachten noch keine Angleichung im wirtschaftsgeographischen Sektor. Die Unterschiede werden vielfältig sichtbar. Geographische Fachbeiträge zur Messenischen Mani fehlen jedoch fast vollständig. Die Untersuchung eines peripheren Raums Europas vor dem Hintergrund entwicklungstheoretischer Überlegungen bildet das Leitziel dieser Studie. Die angestrebten, auch didaktisch konzipierten Teilziele sind im Folgenden aufgeführt. Dem Leser soll die Möglichkeit geschaffen werden, erstens, im Anschluss an die Frage nach der Stellung Griechenlands im Spektrum von Industrie- und Entwicklungsländern zu überlegen, inwieweit die üblichen statistischen Indikatoren geeignet sind, über die tatsächliche Situation einzelner Menschen in bestimmten Landesteilen Auskunft zu geben, zweitens, die Notwendigkeit kleinräumiger Untersuchungen zur genaueren Kenntnis und Beurteilung eines Raums und eventuell vorhandener Disparitäten zu erfassen, drittens, mit der detaillierten Schilderung der Messenischen Mani die konkrete Situation eines Raumausschnittes sowie Gründe für den momentanen Entwicklungsstand zu erkennen, und viertens, die Plausibilität monokausaler Erklärungsansätze zu hinterfragen, die Bedeutung naturräumlicher Gegebenheiten und menschlicher Aktivitäten sowie resultierende Chancen für eine autozentrierte Entwicklung in der Peripherie in ihrem Wechselverhältnis zu begreifen.

    Description: Die vorliegende Arbeit stellt ein Konzept zur Bestimmung der Tragfähigkeit in nomadisch genutzten Weidegebieten vor, das es erlaubt, Weide-Öko-Nutzungs-Systeme zu beschreiben, zu evaluieren und ihre Leistungsfähigkeit weitgehend zu quantifizieren. Am Fallbeispiel einer Untersuchungsregion in Zentralsomalia werden die Charakteristika und Potentiale des Natur- sowie des Wirtschaftsraumes analysiert und in einen synthetischen Zusammenhang gestellt. Die Erfassung des Naturraumes beinhaltet neben der quantitativen Bemessung der Weideressourcen auch die qualitative Bewertung des Weidezustandes. Daneben sind die vielschichtigen ökonomischen und ökologischen Implikationen, die das tatsächliche Weidenutzungspotential bestimmen, aufgezeigt. Lösungsansätze zur Erhaltung der bestehenden Weideressourcen werden angeboten, die auf der Basis der nomadischen Perzeption der Umweltproblematik erarbeitet wurden. Das vorgeschlagene Konzept zeichnet sich dadurch aus, dass die Erhebungen mit relativ geringem Aufwand bewerkstelligt werden können und dennoch eine sehr detaillierte Datenbasis erzielen.

    Description: Nach einer empirischen Regel ist für die Unterscheidung von SKS- und S-Einsätzen die Richtung der Bodenbewegung bei dem betreffenden Einsatz maßgebend. In dieser Untersuchung wird die Regel an einem größeren Material überprüft und ihre theoretische Grundlage entwickelt. Dazu sind die Seismogramme der Württembergischen Hauptstation für Erdbebenforschung, Stuttgart, von 1949 bis 1955 untersucht worden. Von 9.6 Beben wurden die Schwingungsfiguren von SKS- und SKKS-Einsätzen sowie auch von S-Einsätzen und gegebenenfalls von herdnahen Reflektionen gezeichnet. Die Ausrichtung dieser Figuren liegt entweder im Herdazimut oder rechtwinklig zu diesem. Die strengste Polarisation halten die SKS-Einsätze ein, von denen 78% höchstens ± 9° vom Herdazimut abweichen. Auch die anderen SV-Einsätze sind streng azimutal polarisiert. Die Ursache der Polarisation wird aus der Refraktion der Kernwelle in den Mantel und dem dabei eintretenden Wechsel des longitudinalen in einen transversalen Schwingungscharakter hergeleitet. Von den S-Einsatzschwingungen und ihren herdnahen Reflektionen halten etwa 40% eine strenge Polarisation (±9°) ein. Die Polarisationsrichtung ist rechtwinklig zum Herdazimut. Damit ist die empirische Regel eindeutig bestätigt.

    Description: Die Registrierungen eines Seismographen sollen gewisse Eigenschaften der Bodenbewegung am Aufstellungsort zu erkennen geben. Die Anwesenheit eines mechanischen Empfängers verändert jedoch die lokalen physikalischen Bedingungen insofern, als die Boden- und Gestellbewegungen in Wechselwirkung treten. Außerdem wirken die Gehängebewegungen auf das Gestell und dadurch auf den Boden zurück. Im Seismogramm werden tatsächlich nur Eigenschaften der Gestellbewegung registriert. Es erhebt sich also die fundamentale Frage, wie weitgehend die Gestellbewegung mit der Bodenbewegung am Ort des Seismographen bei dessen Abwesenheit übereinstimmt.

    Description: Der wesentliche Bestandteil eines Schwingungsmessers ist sein mechanischer Empfänger, d. h. ein Massensystem, das in einem starren Gestell „aufgehängt“ ist und bei gewissen Bewegungen des Gestells Bewegungen relativ zu diesem um eine stabile Gleichgewichtslage ausführt. In der Bewegungsgleichung eines mechanischen Empfängers, dessen „Gehänge“ bezüglich des Gestells nur einen Freiheitsgrad besitzt, lassen sich die Störungsglieder, welche die nicht notwendig kleinen Gestellbewegungen beschreiben, genau dann zu einer reinen Zeitfunktion, der Störungsfunktion, zusammenfassen, wenn die sog. Übertragungsfaktoren sämtlich konstant sind. Es zeigt sich jedoch, daß die Annahme konstanter Übertragungsfaktoren für eine umfassende Mannigfaltigkeit von Gehängeanordnungen nicht zutrifft, die insbesondere jede praktisch bedeutsame Gehängestruktur einbezieht. Für den Ansatz der Bewegungsgleichung eines mechanischen Empfängers in der üblichen Form, worin die Störungsfunktion auf der rechten Seite der Gleichung erscheint, ist also die Beschränkung der Gestell- und Gehängebewegung nicht nur hinreichend, sondern auch notwendig.
