    Description: Die Arbeit widmet sich dem Zusammenhang zwischen den Phänomenen Gewalt und Dissoziation, der in der Lyrik nach 1989 vermehrt reflektiert wird. Den Gegenstand der Untersuchung bilden russisch- und deutschsprachige Gedichte, die in vier thematischen Konstellationen einander gegenübergestellt werden. Dabei zeigt sich, dass die Relation zwischen Gewalt und Dissoziation in Form von Wechselbeziehungen gestaltet wird, die ihrerseits die Etablierung verborgener Gewaltstrukturen ursächlich bedingen. Behandelt werden Texte der LyrikerInnen Sergej Stratanovskij, Ulrike Draesner, Slava Mogutin, Ann Cotten, Durs Grünbein, Elena Fanajlova, Friederike Mayröcker und Aleksandr Skidan.

    Description: Für gehörlose Lernende stellt das Schreiben eine doppelte Herausforderung dar: Gebärdensprachen verfügen über keine Gebrauchsschrift, weshalb gehörlose Schreiber/-innen die Schrift der umgebenden Lautsprache verwenden. Diese unterscheidet sich jedoch in struktureller Hinsicht grundlegend von der Gebärdensprache, was dazu führt, dass der Schriftspracherwerb in vielen Bereichen dem Erwerb einer Zweitsprache gleicht. Schriftliche Textproduktionen gehörloser Signer (=Gebärdenspachbenutzer/-innen) sind deshalb aus unterschiedlichen Perspektiven von Bedeutung: Aus Sicht der Mehrsprachigkeitsforschung bieten sie einen Einblick in Prozesse des bimodal bilingualen Spracherwerbs, bei dem eine Laut- und eine Gebärdensprache involviert sind. Aus sprachdidaktischer Perspektive stellt sich in der Folge die Frage zur erfolgreichen Vermittlung schriftsprachlicher Kompetenzen für gehörlose Schüler/-innen. Zwar ist bekannt, dass medizinische und alltagsweltliche Konzepte von Normalität divergieren können – doch: Was bedeutet das für die Kommunikation in der medizinischen Praxis? Wie, in welchen Kontexten und zu welchen Zwecken greifen z.B. Ärzt:innen und Patient:innen auf interaktive ‚Praktiken des Normalisierens‘ zurück? Im Zuge der Auseinandersetzung mit der kommunikativen Konstruktion von Normalitäten auf der Grundlage empirischer Analysen authentischer Gespräche liefern die hier versammelten Beiträge interaktionslinguistische Erkenntnisse u.a. zur interaktiven Positionierung im Gespräch, zur Interaktionalen Semantik sowie zur interaktional ausgerichteten Konstruktionsgrammatik. Auch zeigen sie konzeptuelle und methodische Verknüpfungen zu Fragen der Medizin und der qualitativen Sozialforschung auf. Dieses soll durch die teils öffentliche Finanzierung voraussichtlich mit Steuermitteln aufgefangen werden. Es beginnt eine breite Debatte in der sich Personen aus Politik, Kulturbetrieb und Öffentlichkeit in Interviews, Petitionen oder Leserkommentaren beteiligen und in der es um den Einsatz von Steuern, die Verantwortung von Kulturinstitutionen und die künstlerische Freiheit geht. Die Untersuchung nimmt digitale multimodalen Texte, die darin verwendeten Metaphern, intertextuellen Geflechte und die beteiligten Akteure in den Blick und rekonstruiert nicht nur die Debatte der documenta 14, sondern widmet sich darüber hinaus dem strittigen Verhältnis von Kunst und Ökonomie und wie dieses unser aktuelles Kulturfördersystem beeinflusst.     Narrative and Narrativity in Ancient Egypt (2024)

    Description: The volume collects the result of the project Altägyptische Erzählungen in Texten und Bildern: Ägyptologische Perspektiven auf zentrale Axiome einer historischen Text- und Bildnarratologie. It presents a sound methodological perspective for an analysis of the medial diversity and the historical uniqueness of the Ancient Egyptian narrative culture at the interface of contemporary narratological theories and Egyptological practise. A methodological introduction by Gerald Moers and four case studies on categories of narrative artefacts as diverse as texts, images, and tombs argue in favour of appropriately adjusting narratological theories – instead of just using them – with respect to the historically specific differences of the Egyptian narrative behaviour. Based on a cognitive approach that defines human experience as generally framed in a narrative manner, the contributions define narrative as a phenomenon that is neither restricted to nor defined by one medium that would be considered paradigmatically narrative. The study by Camilla di Biase-Dyson on the Egyptian term s.Dd, which has so far been understood as to refer to linear verbal narrative, argues for a much more complex and sophisticated semantics of the term as defining a specifically Egyptian understanding of what narrative is. In a similar manner, the analysis of certain spells from the Pyramid Texts by Kristina Hutter and Dina Serova establishes the existence of narrative coherence in a genre of texts that has so far been considered as being non-narrative by definition. The study of Claus Jurman on Old Kingdom tombs shows that their integrated compilation of texts, images, statuary, and architecture results in non-linear but complex multimodal narratives. Gerald Moers, in his analysis of exemplary genre-scenes from Ramesside ostraca, shows that even some so-called monochronic images that depict precisely one moment in time and have thus traditionally been said to be a-temporal and non-narrative by definition, often have a clearly structured temporal program and can thus be considered autonomous narratives.

    Description: At the end of the 1970s, a new genre cycle was formed in US cinema. Starting with space opera in cinema, for which George Lucas' Star Wars is paradigmatic, fantasy established itself for the first time as an independent cinematic genre in distinction from fairy tales and fantastic fiction. The enthusiasm for pen & paper role-playing games and the continuing J. R. R. Tolkien craze culminated in the following years in a series of films that absorbed, pushed and further developed the diversity of modern film technology and production: the spectrum of films ranged from live-action films (Conan the Barbarian) to puppet animation (The Dark Crystal) to animated films (The Last Unicorn), in which George Lucas as well as Jim Henson and the production companies behind them at the time played leading roles. Contemporary critics had written these films off as conservative, sometimes even reactionary genre plays. In contrast, this essay unfolds a (historical) poetics of the US fantasy film. With its film-analytical case studies, the volume shows how the films of the years 1977 to 1987 are embedded in a specific film culture and how the genre cycle as part of the Hollywood system prepared and significantly influenced the triumph of blockbuster cinema in the 1990s.

Die vorliegende Studie greift diesen scheinbaren Widerspruch auf und untersucht exemplarisch vier Prosatexte der Autoren Herman Heijermans, J. van Oudshoorn, Hendrik Marsman und Paul van Ostaijen. Wie stellen sie die Stadt dar? Welche Metaphern verwenden sie? Und wie lassen sich die Texte in der Tradition der europäischen Großstadtdarstellung verorten? Eng am Text arbeitend, nuanciert die Untersuchung anhand zahlreicher Zitate, Kommentare und Hintergrundinformationen nicht nur die bisherige literaturhistorische Einordnung der einzelnen Autoren, sondern setzt sich darüber hinaus kritisch mit der in der niederländischen Philologie verbreiteten These eines verspäteten Aufgreifens des Modernismus auseinander.

    Description: Seit Mitte der 1990er Jahre Autoren wie Kader Abdolah, Mustafa Stitou, Hafid Bouazza und Abdelkader Benali für Furore sorgten, ist die Literatur von Migranten aus der literarischen Debatte in den Niederlanden nicht mehr wegzudenken. Besonders zu Beginn priesen Kritiker das Neue und Bereichernde und verwiesen zugleich auf die lange Tradition der Multikulturalität der Niederlande. Die Betonung der Verbindung von Elementen unterschiedlicher Kulturen lässt dabei besonders ein Konzept erwarten: das der Hybridität. In der niederländischen Rezeption der Literatur von Migranten spielt dieses Konzept jedoch kaum eine Rolle. Die vorliegende Studie greift diese Diskrepanz auf und untersucht anhand von Beispielen aus der niederländischen Diskussion den historisch und geografisch spezifischen Gebrauch von Konzepten des Kulturkontakts und der Kulturvermischung. Im Zentrum der Untersuchung steht die Rezeption von sieben Autoren, die im Laufe des 20. Jahrhunderts debütierten: Albert Helman und Cola Debrot für die Zwischenkriegszeit und die 1950er Jahre, Frank Martinus Arion, Astrid Roemer und Marion Bloem für die 1970er und 1980er Jahre sowie Hafid Bouazza und Abdelkader Benali für die 1990er und 2000er Jahre. In der diachronen Perspektive zeigt sich, dass eine Rezeption unter Aspekten des Kulturkontakts und der Kulturvermischung keineswegs selbstverständlich ist. Ebenso wird deutlich, wie stark die Debatte durch nationale Traditionen und Denkweisen geprägt ist, die nicht zuletzt dem Anspruch des Offenheit und Instabilität propagierenden Konzepts der Hybridität Grenzen setzen.

    Description: Sprachliche und kommunikative Kompetenz ist, wenn auch mit unterschiedlichen Schwerpunkten, eines von vielen Lernzielen für Lernende in allen Bildungseinrichtungen von der Kindertageseinrichtung bis zur Universität. Gefordert wird unter anderem die Produktion von komplexen Diskurseinheiten auf bildungssprachlichem Niveau. Bildungssprache soll in diesem Zusammenhang als ein detaillierter, kontextentbundener verständlicher sowie begrifflich präziser (Morek und Heller 2012, S. 68). Sprachgebrauch mit dem übergeordneten Merkmal der Explizitheit (Feilke 2012) verstanden werden. Das Sprechen kann dabei unter anderem als Werkzeug der Wissensvermittlung (kommunikativ) und des Denkens (epistemisch) fungieren (Morek und Heller 2012). Wie bildungssprachliche Fähigkeiten vermittelt werden können, ist allerdings noch nicht abschließend geklärt (Feilke 2012). Hinzu kommt, dass sich zumindest bezüglich des mündlichen Sprachgebrauchs in Lehr- und Lernkontexten häufig wenig Gelegenheit zum Einüben längerer Redebeiträge bietet. Die Kommunikation über Texte erscheint hierfür schon aufgrund der Annahme geeignet, dass Texte eigentlich erst während der Rezeption von den Rezipient*innen konstruiert werden. Wir gehen mit Hausendorf et al. 2017 davon aus, dass Texte Lesbarkeitshinweise bereitstellen, die von den Rezipient*innen zur Konstruktion ihrer eigenen mentalen Modelle genutzt werden. Diese können als Ausgangspunkt für Gespräche mit längeren Redebeiträgen (epistemische Funktion) verwendet werden, in denen Bedeutungen immer wieder ausgehandelt werden (kommunikative Funktion). Solche Aushandlungen sind zwangsläufig kontextentbunden und fordern auch einen gewissen Grad an sprachlicher Explizitheit. Eine Möglichkeit ist die Verwendung literarischer Texte als Gesprächsanlass. Im Sinne eines erweiterten Textbegriffs (vgl. Staiger 2007) sollen darunter Texte in allen Medien verstanden werden, wie z. B. Bilderbücher, Computerspiele, Comics, Gedichte oder Filme. Die Offenheit literarischer Texte ermöglicht es, dass sie auf stets variierende Art interpretiert und verstanden werden können (vgl. Charlton und Sutter 2007). Dies entlastet die Interaktant*innen davon, eine „richtige Antwort“ geben zu müssen. In Anschluss- oder Begleitkommunikationen wie z.B. in Vorlesegesprächen (vgl. u.a. Wieler 1997, Spinner 2004, Gressnich et al. 2015) sind unterschiedliche Sichtweisen auf die Texte sogar ein erwünschter Effekt, der es auch Rezipient*innen mit sehr unterschiedlichen Wissensständen ermöglicht, sich über die Texte auszutauschen. Außerdem können die am Gespräch Teilnehmenden insofern voneinander lernen, als dass sie die unterschiedlichen Sichtweisen auf den Text nachvollziehen. Auch von der eigenen Deutung abweichende Äußerungen bergen ein großes Potenzial, weil sie dazu veranlassen, die eigene Haltung zum Text zu reflektieren, sie argumentierend zu verteidigen oder zu modifizieren (vgl. u.a. Spinner 2010, Preußer 2017, Heizmann 2019). Im vorliegenden Sammelband werden in elf Beiträgen unterschiedliche Perspektiven und verschiedene Erhebungs- und Auswertungskontexte, unter denen Gespräche über literarische Texte aktuell betrachtet werden, vorgestellt.

Starting with Plato in the fourth century B.C., it is for a long time an unexcited reflection, until the perspective changes radically in the 19th century: the normality is suddenly gone, contact and mixture become first a research taboo and only a little later a serious research focus, from which a separate discipline, contact linguistics, emerges. This book tells for the first time the history of the study of language contact up to the threshold of the 20th century and shows how critical-historiographical studies can help to classify and advance current debates (e.g. in creole studies).

Aus diesem Anlass wurde im November 2003 an der Universität Münster eine internationale Tagung abgehalten. Übergreifende Thematik war die Position des Schriftstellers, Kritikers und Übersetzers Thelen als Mittler zwischen unterschiedlichen Kulturen, Literaturen und Sprachen. Die interdisziplinäre Ausrichtung der Tagung erbrachte dabei neue Einsichten in die Person Thelen. Dieser Band fasst die Beiträge zusammen, die sowohl zu literatur- und kulturwissenschaftlichen als auch zu sprach- und übersetzungswissenschaftlichen Fragestellungen präsentiert wurden. Neben Aspekten wie z.B. dem autobiographischen oder faschismuskritischen Gehalt des schriftstellerischen Werkes werden die Kontakte Thelens zu den Niederlanden und seine Tätigkeit als Vermittler untersucht. Deze bundel met artikelen, die teruggaat op een congres dat in 2008 aan de Freie Universität Berlin gehouden werd, wil daartoe een eerste aanzet geven. De artikelen, die in het Nederlands geschreven zijn en van een Duitse en een Engelse samenvatting vergezeld gaan, geven een goede indruk van een vakgebied dat in een groot aantal Europese landen niet alleen op een lange traditie kan bogen, maar vandaag de dag bovendien ook rijkgeschakeerd en springlevend is. Die Niederlandistik hat als wissenschaftliche Disziplin auch außerhalb des niederländischen Sprachraums eine lange Geschichte. In einigen Ländern haben sich schon in der ersten Hälfte des neunzehnten Jahrhunderts Sprach- und Literaturwissenschaftler mit der niederländischen Sprache und der niederländischsprachigen Literatur beschäftigt. Die Geschichte der internationalen Niederlandistik ist bislang weitgehend unerforscht, sie bedarf noch einer gründlichen Aufarbeitung. Dieser Band, der auf eine Tagung zurückgeht, die 2008 an der Freien Universität Berlin stattfand, will dazu einen ersten Anstoß geben. Die Artikel, die auf Niederländisch verfasst sind und denen eine deutsche und englische Zusammenfassung hinzugefügt wurde, bieten einen guten Überblick über ein Fachgebiet, das in einer großen Zahl europäischer Länder nicht nur eine lange Tradition hat, sondern gegenwärtig auch breit aufgestellt und quicklebendig ist.

In zwölf Beiträgen werden hoch- und niederdeutsche Sprachgemeinschaften sowie die dänische Sprachgemeinschaft in Argentinien in den Blick genommen.     Description: The publication aims to view analogy relations as heuristic magic sticks or semiotic universals through which the unknown can be heuristically opened up with the help of the known. This means that analogies simultaneously have analysing, synthesising and playful basic functions that can open up very diverse resonance spaces for us. It further implies that analogy assumptions also serve to bring the world of objects into a fruitful interaction context with the world of subjects. In this way, Cassirer's thesis that man is a genuine sign being (animal symbolicum), which can and must open up its life world with the help of cultural signs, can be exemplified very well.

The study traces the topicality of stubborn, idiosyncratic and dysfunctional hands and locates them in the media-, technology- and knowledge-historical contexts of the time. Against the background of the hand interests circulating in philosophy, medicine, anthropology and labour sciences, the 'productiveness' of the mode of representation of unruliness becomes clear. Beyond the traditional praise of human manual dexterity, moments of refusal and confusion open up a critical potential for reflection that explores new forms of possibility in the use of the hand.

Die Studie verfolgt die Topik störrischer, eigenwilliger und dysfunktionaler Hände und verortet sie in den medien-, technik- und wissensgeschichtlichen Kontexten der Zeit. Vor dem Hintergrund der in Philosophie, Medizin, Anthropologie und Arbeitswissenschaften zirkulierenden Handinteressen wird die 'Produktivitat' des Darstellungsmodus der Widerspenstigkeit deutlich. In this volume, the dialectical concepts of center and periphery are examined from the perspectives of literary, linguistic, and cultural studies. Their relevance in Romania is examined in the individual contributions on the basis of geographical, spatial, historical, social, and linguistic aspects, in order to include different approaches and methods of analysis. In addition to a heterogeneous approach to the dimensions of the conceptual pair, the volume offers a structured presentation of the individual phenomena studied. The two thematic blocks focus, on the one hand, on diverse literary studies considerations of the dichotomy of the conceptual pair, and, on the other hand, on linguistic conceptions of center and periphery. Thus, new perspectives on both central and peripheral phenomena in Romance studies are opened up, on the one hand by presenting the range of (traditional) centers and peripheries, and on the other hand by referring to current discussions in the context of the two concepts.

    Description: Die anhaltende Präsenz von Engeln in der Moderne wurde oft auf ein gesteigertes Trostbedürfnis zurückgeführt. Die Engelsfigur ist aber nicht bloß statisches Überbleibsel einer verlorenen Glaubensgewissheit. Vielmehr steht sie in einer produktiven Beziehung zu zentralen geschichtsphilosophischen, politischen und medienästhetischen Fragen der Zeit. Die vorliegende Studie geht den Zusammenhängen zwischen Engelsfigur und Moderne-Diskurs entlang eines Spannungsbogens nach, der von Reflexionen eines metaphysischen Exils Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts über die Zuspitzung existentieller Bedrohung im Ersten und Zweiten Weltkrieg bis zum Undarstellbarkeitstopos des Holocaust verläuft. Dabei wird deutlich, dass der Engel auf vielfache Weise als Verursacher und gleichzeitig als zukunftsgerichteter Überwinder moderner Formen des Exils auftritt – als Figur, die geschichtsphilosophische Brüche herbeiführt und individualbiographische Traumata sichtbar macht; die die moderne Deformation des Menschen illustriert und wahlweise zu heilen oder voranzutreiben versucht; und die schließlich neue politische Ordnungen entwirft und sie als ästhetische Metalepse bereits in der Exilgegenwart veranschaulicht.

    Description: This volume contains selected papers of the 2008 annual conference of the German Association for Social Science Research on Japan (Vereinigung für sozialwissenschaftliche Japanforschung e.V. – VSJF). The academic meeting has addressed the issue of demographic change in Japan in comparison to the social developments of ageing in Germany and other member states of the European Union. The conference was organized by the Institute for Modern Japanese Studies at Heinrich-Heine-University of Duesseldorf and took place at the Mutter Haus in Kaiserswerth (an ancient part of Duesseldorf). Speakers from Germany, England, Japan and the Netherlands presented their papers in four sessions on the topics “Demographic Trends and Social Analysis”, “Family and Welfare Policies”, “Ageing Society and the Organization of Households” and “Demographic Change and the Economy”. Central to all transnational and national studies on demographic change is the question of how societies can be reconstructed and be made adaptive to these changes in order to survive as solidarity communities. The authors of this volume attend to this question by discussing on recent trends of social and economic restructuring and giving insight into new research developments such as in the area of households and housing, family care work, medical insurance, robot technology or the employment sector.

Literarisches Verstehen gelingt dann am besten, wenn Lernende über bestimmte Wissensbestände verfügen und dieses Wissen auf eine bestimmte Weise einsetzen können; bemerkenswert ist daher, dass die prominenten literaturdidaktischen Konzepte der letzten beiden Dekaden die Verbindung von Wissen und literarischem Lernen vielfach ausgeblendet haben. Basierend auf Korpusdaten wird in diesem Band gegen die verbreitete Alternationsanalyse der an-Konstruktion als präpositionales Pendant der transitiven Verbverwendung argumentiert. Stattdessen werden an-Phrasen als ereignisinterne Modifikatoren von einstelligen Activity-Verbvarianten analysiert, die eine in der lokalen Bedeutung der Präposition wurzelnde boundary-Relation einführen. Aus empirischer Perspektive wird ein Inventar von korpusbasierten Methoden und Maßen für die Untersuchung von (vermeintlichen) Argumentalternationen vorgestellt. Schließlich wird der bisher wenig diskutierte Zusammenhang von Argumentrealisierung und Metaphernbildung diskutiert.     Description: In this volume, corpus-linguistic methods and spontaneous language data have been utilized to prove that the tense forms preterite and pluperfect have reestablished themselves in German Alemannic. The reason for this is the influence of standard language. The partial reversal of the disappearance of the preterite is not process of suppression rather, the four tenses praeterite, perfect, pluperfect and double perfect form a complementary system.
