    Description: The present qualitative interview study has set itself the task of reappraising the developments from the emergence to the official ban of the German-speaking Islamic Circle (DIK) and the associated mosque. In order to approach the question of how it was possible for a radical Islamic mosque to emerge and establish itself in the middle of Hildesheim's Nordstadt, we use the "hotbed" approach1 as a basis for analysis. According to this approach, the geographic distribution of the places of origin of those who left to fight in IS territory is by no means evenly distributed; rather, certain places or neighborhoods stand out in which recurring factors that condition radicalization can be identified. To examine why the now-banned Hildesheim mosque association around the convicted "IS chief recruiter" in Germany, Ahmad A. alias "Abu Walaa," became a hotbed, we conducted a total of nine interviews in the spring and summer of 2021. We spoke with members of the local Muslim community and former visitors of the DIK mosque, non-Muslim persons living in the immediate vicinity of the mosque, as well as with representatives of authorities, institutions and civil society institutions. The empirical material is supplemented by an analysis of Abu Walaa's social media content, in particular his Telegram channels, as well as by recordings of various court hearings of the criminal trial against Abu Walaa that we attended.     Description: The dissertation analyzes the German and European legal situation and the development of case law on the subject of transgender identity in the system of fundamental and human rights. The work focuses primarily on the case law of the Federal Constitutional Court and the European Court of Human Rights, but also takes a comparative legal approach and deals with the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union. Both the Federal Constitutional Court and the European Court of Human Rights provided important stimulus for legal reforms. The major legal issues examined in the work include the prerequisites for the change of legal gender, the change of first name, the legal consequences of a gender change for the continued existence of a marriage and the recognition of transsexual men and women as fathers or mothers, as well as the legal requirements for the assumption of costs for gender reassignment surgeries.

    Description: It is predicted that church membership in the Protestant church in Germany will be cut in half by 2060. Church tax liability plays a central role in church resignations. Therefore, reform proposals of the church tax law are discussed to prevent church resignations, such as the exemption of young professionals from church tax liability. However, the right to tax is not a purely ecclesiastical matter but has implications for the state sector. Therefore, the collection of church taxes entails framework conditions imposed by the Constitution, which limits the church's freedom of organization. This thesis examines the reform proposals of church tax law regarding their legal feasibility and, in doing so, sheds light on the limits of the tax autonomy of religious communities. Central questions are: How flexible is the taxation right of religious communities? What is the church allowed to do? And what can it implement?

    Description: Natural disasters are a challenge for human societies. The young German nation that reacted in the face of the 100-year Rhine flood (1882/83) can be characterized by the key elements of science, technology, economy, administration, and national consciousness. Given this framework the main actors used the disaster to expand their influence (e.g. scientific research) and to establish solidly relations. In sum, dealing with a natural disaster like the Rhine flood can only be understood in the opposing terms of risk and opportunity.

Der Autor zeigt, auf welche Weise die politischen und wissenschaftlichen Strukturen des Deutschen Kaiserreiches dieser Herausforderung begegneten und sich im Sinne des Fortschrittsdenkens zu Nutze machten. Zu einer Änderung des Rechts der Unterbringung im Psychiatrischen Krankenhaus gem. § 63 StGB liegt ein Diskussionsentwurf der Bund-Länder-Arbeitsgruppe vor. Zu fragen ist jedoch, ob und wann Veränderungen einzelner Vorschriften nicht auch zu einer Veränderung des zweispurigen Sanktionensystems an sich führen. Aus diesem Grund machte es sich das Kriminalwissenschaftliche Kolloquium 2014 zur Aufgabe, das System der freiheitsentziehenden Sanktionen als Ganzes in den Blick zu nehmen und einen möglicherweise bestehenden Reformbedarf herauszuarbeiten. Das jährlich stattfindende Kriminalwissenschaftliche Kolloquium greift jeweils aktuelle Themen aus dem Bereich der gesamten Strafrechtswissenschaften auf und möchte die fachliche Diskussion im Wege des wissenschaftlichen Austauschs bereichern.     Description: The thesis analyzes a treatment of dangerous criminals on society with viewpoint of comparative criminal law in Germany and South Korea. In particular, with a focus on "preventive detention" as a "measure of improving and security", at first, basic theory of the Measure of Improving and Security is referred for the analysis of Preventive Detention. At the end of the thesis possible alternatives to Preventive Detention are reviewed. As a result, duality of the criminal law and Measure of Improving and Security will have to be acceptable to the Criminal Code, but the focus of the criminal treatment of dangerous criminals should also be successful treatment and re-socialization, alternatives that do not deprive of freedom emphasized to hold a dominant position.

    Description: How is the handling of contested “objects” from the German colonial era shaped in ethnological Museums in Germany and Cameroon? This ethnographic study connects, for the first time, approaches from ethnology, (international) law, (art) history and museology which constitute the multidisciplinary field of “return” to deal with this question. Two current return claims of things from Cameroon at ethnological museums in Munich and Berlin take centre stage: Tange/Schiffschnabel and Ngonnso’/Schalenträgerfigur. The reconstruction of the cultural biographies of the contested items documents their part as points of intersection in complex networks of relations and stakeholders from the 19th century to this day. These networks connect people and institutions in Cameroon and Germany and their diverse conceptions and claims on these things in a versatile manner. Return claims, according to the thesis, appear as a magnifying lens which discloses diverging conceptions of things and ontologies.

    Description: How is the handling of contested “objects” from the German colonial era shaped in ethnological Museums in Germany and Cameroon? This ethnographic study connects, for the first time, approaches from ethnology, (international) law, (art) history and museology which constitute the multidisciplinary field of “return” to deal with this question. Two current return claims of things from Cameroon at ethnological museums in Munich and Berlin take centre stage: Tange/Schiffschnabel and Ngonnso’/Schalenträgerfigur. The reconstruction of the cultural biographies of the contested items documents their part as points of intersection in complex networks of relations and stakeholders from the 19th century to this day. These networks connect people and institutions in Cameroon and Germany and their diverse conceptions and claims on these things in a versatile manner. Return claims, according to the thesis, appear as a magnifying lens which discloses diverging conceptions of things and ontologies.
