Description: Political institutions must guarantee both representation and government. The peculiarity of parliamentarism lies in the fact that these two functions pass through the election of the Chamber of Parliament, to which the government is bound by a vote of confidence. This essay analyses the growing difficulties of parliamentary regimes in securing the aforementioned functions.

Description: In view of the increasing number of social enterprises in recent years, the European Commission (2020) has undertaken a mapping study (2014-2020) of social ecosystems in order to understand their evolution, activities, and professional profiles. In Italy, workers in social enterprises account for 53% (ISTAT 2020) of the majority of which consist of/include workers in the social and care services. It is specifically within these services that the «value of knowledge and skills that are not only specifically technical-professional but also strategic and transversal, cognitive and metacognitive, reflective» (Epifani 2003, 23) is becoming increasingly important, in line with the current indications of the European Skills Agenda (European Commission 2021). This phenomenon concerns even more particularly the intermediate functions, i.e. those support positions, which in part hold management and coordination functions (Abhervé and Dubois 2009). In light of this framework, this study investigates the figure of the personal services coordinator, i.e. a second-level professional who, working both in the educational and in the managerial, combines his actions between very different areas of competence.

Description: This anthology presents research projects that examine the intersection between music, technology and education from a variety of perspectives. The contributors are from a range of educational programs within traditional pre-, primary and lower secondary school education, as well as music performance and technology educational programs. Data for the studies stems from primary and lower secondary school, as well as informal learning environments, in addition to the contributors’ respective education programs. The research projects examine a wide range of topics such as gamification of ukulele and song teaching, composition with iPads in the classroom, live looping as an approach to ensemble conducting, authentic music technology learning spaces, music-making in the “laptop-era”, sound, the notion of net-based presence, and challenges in higher electronic music education. As this anthology is the first publication in the MusPed:Research series, it also contains an introductory chapter about the series and the research network Musikkpedagogikk i utdanning (MiU). This anthology makes a distinct contribution to the research field of music technology in education and questions educational practices in the school and higher educational levels, the goals and content of music education, and our understanding of music and music creation in itself.

Description: The historical phase we are living, which is characterized by change management and the continuous redefinition of skills (Fiore et al. 2021), invites the university to question itself on the central role it plays for the formation of current and future. The work of the European Commission to address the improvement and adaptation of the skills of European citizens provides clear guidelines on which Higher Education is also called to commit. Among them, this paper focuses on the development of entrepreneurial skills, i.e. the ability to act on opportunities and ideas and to transform them into value for others. The Commission calls for the development of these competences at all levels of education, giving rise to entrepreneurial education training offers (Lackéus 2015). For this reason, and in order to respond to this need, since 2013 the Italian Ministry of University has established the Contamination Labs, places of contamination between students, teachers and local stakeholders aimed at developing interdisciplinary entrepreneurial education, which is also the subject of this research.

Description: The article describes the history of higher education in Florence from the beginning of the twentieth century until the mid-1920s, when the ancient Institute of Higher Studies, founded in 1859, was transformed into a modern University. The development of the university institution is reconstructed through the detailed analysis of the annual reports presented by the superintendents of the Institute and making use of the unpublished documents preserved in the historical archives of the University. Particular attention is paid to the evolution of the number of enrolled students and graduates, as well as to the expansion of the training offer made possible by the opening of new faculties and new laboratories. Finally, the article focuses on some important professors, such as the physicist Antonio Garbasso who was also mayor of Florence, and the historian Gaetano Salvemini who was one of the leaders of the anti-fascist movement and, due to his political positions, in 1925 he was forced to leave the University to emigrate to the United States.

Description: The use of digital devices in education is increasing. The literature, however, reveals a disadvantage of digital compared to paper in performing specific learning tasks, in particular text comprehension, which is probably sustained by a different cognitive load and a tendency to use digital for superficial and fast reading. The present study investigates possible differences between paper and digital text comprehension in children of school-age by analysing the role of Executive Functions (EF) as mediating factors in performance. 175 children in 3rd, 4th and 5th grade were assessed for text comprehension in the two modes and assessed with EF tests. The results show that there are no differences between digital and paper text comprehension. However, dividing the sample into children with low and children with high levels of text comprehension, the former group is seen to benefit from digital compared to the latter group, which shows an opposite trend. Furthermore, the low performers score worse than high performers in the EF measures which show a mediating role between performance level and differences between paper and digital modes in text comprehension. The present study has important educational implications for the use of digital devices in education.

Description: The second edition of the Seminar "INVALSI data: a tool for research" was held in Florence on 17 and 18 November 2017. The event was an opportunity to meeting and networking among researchers, teachers, school managers and, more generally, all those who have an interest in educational evaluation and the data made available by INVALSI every year. The INVALSI data, in fact, although not claiming to be exhaustive about the complexity of the school world, are useful to understand some educational phenomena more effectively. The INVALSI Statistical Service has decided to collect the numerous research contributions presented on this occasion in specific thematic sessions. This volume contains 13 chapters which, starting from different points of view and using heterogeneous methodological approaches, provide insights into how INVALSI data can contribute to deepening the interpretation of the school world, in its different aspects. The reading path is rich and complex and can serve as a landmark for those wishing to explore some issues concerning the Italian system.

Description: This essay traces Paolo Federighi's research trajectories in Learning and Education for Adults through interviews with the scholar himself conducted over the years. What emerges is a multidisciplinary and international epistemological framework within which are situated the different declinations of counseling as collaborative research, capable of integrating scientific and practical knowledge. The proposed reflection legitimizes the adoption of emergent and multi-methodological approaches, just as it supports the demand for Collaborative Educational Research, capable of holding together communities of diverse stakeholders, such as universities, businesses, and institutional actors.

Description: Nowadays, scientific literacy is a key aspect for active citizenship and for making informed decisions regarding scientific issues of everyday life. However, the PISA 2018 data highlight the low scientific competence of the upper secondary school students, underlining the need to foster STEM teaching. In particular, the use of the so-called X-Reality for acquiring scientific skills and to increase interest in the discipline seem promising. During the first year of my PhD, I carried out a scoping review on STEM teaching with X-Reality in the context of secondary school. The main purpose was to draw a state-of-the-art regarding X-Reality use, focusing on potential, critical aspects and challenges. After the search and selection process, 10 articles were included in the analysis. The results showed the effectiveness of X-Reality in promoting the achievement of learning objectives, the interest in the discipline and the long-term retention of knowledge. These results will be the starting point for setting up the empirical part of the PhD project.

Description: In this volume of studies, Animal: Moments of Affect, Moments of Pain, eight ethnologists apply a cultural perspective to people’s varied and complex relationships with other species. The contributions focus on wild animals, that is, those that are rarely found in the authors’ immediate vicinity. Based on ongoing research, the articles discuss themes such as conflicts and joys in the birdwatching world, charismatic animals in various exhibition contexts, children’s fears, morbid animal jokes and the ritual transformation of living animals into edible meat. The texts range from the tender, comical and cute to death and existential vulnerability. The book begins with the editors presenting an overview of how animals have been produced, noticed and studied in a mostly Nordic humanistic research context. Then the articles follow. Based on the idea of affective logic, Elin Lundquist follows the on-site monitoring of the bird hunting that takes place annually in Malta. Mattias Frihammar uses observations at a wilderness gallery with taxidermied animals to reflect on local identity. Lars Kaijser examines the ambivalent and conflicted portrayal of sharks in public aquariums. Sverker Hyltén-Cavallius writes about the death of extinct animals and how this is displayed in natural history museums. Susanne Nylund Skog examines birdwatchers’ stories as an expression of collecting and as a way of manifesting status. With lobster cartoons as a starting point, Simon Ekström shows how these depict both animal rights issues and human anxiety. Helena Hörnfeldt investigates animal fear and the diffuse boundary between humans and animals. Proceeding from different depictions of slaughter and the preparation of meat, Michelle Zethson problematizes how some animals are made edible. The volume ends with an epilogue by the editors commenting on the findings.

Description: The contribution reconstructs the work of innovation carried out by Cosimo Ridolfi in the Agricultural Institute of Meleto in Val d'Elsa, as a paradigmatic example of the relationship between theory and practice and a model example of school-work alternation. Through a historical perspective, we want to highlight the educational aspects of practical and conceptual activity in practical and operational contexts, especially in agriculture, a tradition inaugurated by Ridolfi and continued by Lambruschini, which initiated a true Tuscan school of innovation in the formal learning setting of education and training that has become a European model.

Description: "What were the ideas about conflicts and conflict resolutions in the Nordic countries during the Vendel Period and the Viking Age? What role did i.e. gender and power hierarchies play in the conflicts? All of the contributing texts are, in one way or another, related to the theme ‘war and peace’. They present new interpretations of some of the Old Scandinavian texts as well as of archaeological material: the runic inscription on the Eggja stone (Andreas Nordberg), texts about the fight between the god Thor and the giant Hrungnir (Tommy Kuusela), about the valkyries (Britt-Mari Näsström), about a phalos cult (Maths Bertell), about fylgjur, a type of beings regarded as related to the fate of a person (Eldar Heide), about enclosed areas for fights and battles (Torsten Blomkvist), about the defilement of sacred areas and places as a power strategy (Olof Sundqvist), about ritualisations of peace negotiations (Stefan Olsson), and about Ragnarök, the end and renewing of the world (Anders Hultgård). The book has been edited by Hakan Rydving and Stefan Olsson, both from the The Department of Archaeology, History, Cultural Studies and Religion (AHKR) at the University of Bergen.

Description: Conceived on the occasion of the first edition of "Unimc for Inclusion", an initiative promoted by the University of Macerata, the volume intends to propose, in a single collective work, theoretical coordinates and operational trajectories applicable in plural contexts, including training whether they are educational, aggregated or residential. The paradigm of inclusion is therefore investigated on the basis of its declinations, as well as multiple perspectives of research, through a variety of thematic insights. Implementation challenges, laboratory proposals and design hypotheses that come to life in the text, offering the reader practical ideas for reflection and experimentation with an inclusive character. For these reasons, this book is particularly recommended to pedagogues, teachers and educators, both in training and in service, because in their profession they are constantly called upon to engage in "inclusion tests".

Description: How do Torquato Tasso and Giovan Battista Marino react to the vigilant and normative context between the 16th and 17th centuries? Two evasive tactics designed to safeguard lewdness and enchantment in the poems are considered, starting from the relationship the two authors had with norms and rules: allegory on the one hand, and disguise on the other. Tasso's path is evolutionary and his opinion changes according to the internalisation of laws and values that lead to a re-evaluation of his initial opinions, while Marino transgresses the rules and uses typically defensive elements - such as allegory - overturning them and inventing a concealed offensive use. In this context, the paratextual allegories of Marino's Adonis, hitherto ill-considered by critics, are thus re-evaluated, and the Tasso route is reconsidered from a perspective that sees the two authors not as victims of a censorial system, but as active participants.

Description: The archive of the Italian National Association of University Teachers sheds light on the little-known contribution a vanguard of university teachers gave to the reform process of Italian Universities, which started in 1968 after the failure of the Italian bill n. 2314. ANDU immediately identified itself in Giorgio Spini’s leadership: he was Professor of history at the Faculty of Education of the University of Florence, and he brought together union leadership and constant political and cultural work, which could show the problem with universities was a long-term matter. The student movement has been one of ANDU’s main dialogue partners from the beginning, and the association has always supported their initiatives, condemning the police repression and the closing of the academic authorities. In this context, the right to education becomes the primary goal of the university reform, not only for overcoming its classist nature, but also for significantly contributing to question the relations among classes and the balance of power in the Italian society.
