    Molnik pri Ljubljani v starejši železni dobi = The Iron Age site at Molnik near Ljubljana (2022)

    Description: Molnik is a hill in the hinterland of Ljubljana in central Slovenia that has been known as an archaeological site for quite some time. Systematic investigations ensued in the 1980s and 1990s, led by Ivan Puš, then curator in the Mestni muzej Ljubljana. They revealed ramparts and habitation terraces on the summit of the hill, as well as flat and tumulus graves on five locations around the summit that date to the Early Iron Age and some finds from later periods.

    Description: Vodnik strnjeno podaja temeljne naravne, družbene in gospodarske značilnosti otoške države na pragu azijske celine, ki pa je z vstopom v Evropsko zvezo politično že nekaj let trdno zasidrana v Evropi. Poleg opisa glavnih turističnih zanimivosti v grškem in turškem delu otoka ter glavnega mesta Nikozije je pripravljen izčrpen zgodovinski oris s poudarkom na predstavitvi korenin dolgotrajnega etničnega konflikta med grško in turško narodno skupnostjo, pa tudi na prikazu njegovih posledic.

The anthropological diaries of the 1964 to 1973 excavations by Tone Pogačnik and Tatjana Tomazzo Ravnik are presented in the sixth book. "

    Description: In the years 1899–1901, Karel Štrekelj (1859–1912) held a course on Slovenian literature at the University of Graz. These are the first university lectures on Slovenian literature in the Slovenian language, published in two volumes. However, Štrekelj's history is more than this: it is a monumental, classically balanced synthesis of all the former knowledge of Slovenian literature, given against rich historical, social, and linguistic backgrounds.It is the first series of university lectures in the Slovenian language on the topic of Slovenian literature. The volumes of manuscript contain a complete overview of Slovenian literature from Brižinski spomeniki (The Freising Manuscripts) to Gregorčič. Štrekelj’s lectures are a landmark in the development of Slovenian studies, both from the point of view of university teaching and from the perspective of the fundamental works of Slovenian literary history.
    Description: Karel Štrekelj (1859–1912) je v slovenski humanistiki znamenit zlasti kot narodopisec in jezikoslovec, manj pa je znan kot literarni zgodovinar. Na univerzi v Gradcu pa je imel Štrekelj v štirih semestrih ob prelomu stoletja (1899–1901) predavanja o slovenski literaturi Zgodovina slovenskega slovstva I–IV. To je monumentalno, toda doslej skoraj neopaženo delo slovenske literarne zgodovine. Ohranjeno je v štirih rokopisnih zvezkih, ki skupaj obsegajo čez 1.200 strani skrbno napisanega besedila. Gre za prva univerzitetna predavanja o slovenski literaturi v slovenskem jeziku. Zvezki rokopisa vsebujejo popoln pregled slovenske književnosti od Brižinskih spomenikov do Gregorčiča. Štrekljeva predavanja so mejnik v razvoju slovenistike tako glede univerzitetnega poučevanja kakor z gledišča temeljnih del slovenske literarne zgodovine. Pričujoča znanstvena izdaja (zvezka I–II, od srednjega veka do razsvetljenstva) prinaša to obširno, dotlej najboljšo literarno zgodovino iz rokopisa v javnost – v počastitev stoletnice smrti Karla Štreklja, slovenskega filološkega klasika.

    Proizvodnja nagrobnih spomenikov v notranjosti rimske province Dalmacije (2022)

    Description: The present study deals with the question of the organization of the stonemasonry production of funerary monuments in the interior of the former Roman province of Dalmatia. The aim of the research was to identify a model of stonemasonry production that originated in a mountainous and difficult to traverse area, where the possibilities of water transport of stone material are minimal. The author started from the assumption that production centres formed in some geographical areas during Roman rule, using local limestone sources for their operation. The study includes funerary monuments discovered in present-day Bosnia and Herzegovina and in the western part of Serbia and Montenegro. By combining the methods of macroscopic petrographic analysis of the stone material and typological and spatial analysis, the existence of several production centres was proven. The results of the analyses indicate a very likely that they exploited the local limestone resources. Epigraphic data also made it possible to define their chronological aspect.
    Description: Pričujoče delo se ukvarja z vprašanjem organizacije kamnoseške proizvodnje nagrobnih spomenikov na prostoru notranjega dela nekdanje rimske province Dalmacije. Cilj raziskave je bil prepoznati model kamnoseške proizvodnje, ki se je oblikoval na goratem in težko prehodnem območju, kjer so možnosti vodnega transporta kamnitega materiala minimalne. Avtorica izhajala iz predpostavke, da so se v času rimske oblasti na nekaterih geografskih območji oblikovala proizvodna središča, ki so za svoje delovanje uporabljala lokalne vira apnenca. Študija zajema nagrobne spomenike, odkrite na prostoru današnje Bosne in Hercegovine in zahodnega dela Srbije in Črne gore. S kombinacijo metod makroskopske petrografske analize kamnin in tipološke analize ter prostorske analize je pokazala na obstoj več proizvodnih središč. Rezultati analiz kažejo na zelo verjetno možnost, da so izkoriščali lokalne vire apnenca. Epigrafski podatki pa so omogočili njihov obstoj tudi časovno opredeliti.

V obeh knjigah skupaj je torej predstavljena vsa doslej znana pisna in risarska dokumentacija teh izkopavanj.V pričujoči knjigi objavljamo arhivsko gradivo iz arheoloških izkopavanj na najdišču Župna cerkev v Kranju iz let 1964 in 1965 ter iz Mestne hiše leta 1966, ki ga hrani Gorenjski muzej v Kranju.

    Description: The finds and preserved grave groups from its tumulus cemeteries, which are kept in several museums in different countries (Narodni muzej Slovenije, Ljubljana~Naturhistorisches Museum, Wien~Peabody Museum of Harvard University in Cambridge, USA), give a good insight into the cultural and social processes of the time. Together with notes on the circumstances of find and contents of graves, they represent a valuable source for the study of social structure and differentiation, as well as cultural identity.
    Description: Magdalenska gora pri Šmarju-Sapu na Dolenjskem predstavlja eno najpomembnejših arheoloških najdišč iz starejše železne dobe v jugovzhodnih Alpah. Najdbe in grobni sestavi iz tamkajšnjih gomilnih grobišč, ki jih hranijo muzeji v raznih državah (Narodni muzej Slovenije, Naturhistorisches Museum na Dunaju, Peabody Museum pri Harvardski univerzi v Cambridgeu v ZDA), ponujajo dober uvid v kulturne in družbene procese tistega časa. Skupaj s podatki o kontekstih so dragoceni vir za ugotavljanje družbene strukture in diferenciacije ter kulturne identitete.V knjigi so podrobneje razčlenjeni zasnova in širjenje grobišč, sestav pokopov v gomilah, oprave pokojnikov in grobni pridatki, ki govorijo o spremembah noše in grobnih ritualov v petstoletnem obdobju, o prežitkih starejše lokalne tradicije, o stiki z drugimi skupnostmi, o vpetosti v blagovno-menjalne tokove med Apeninskim polotokom, Alpami in zahodno Panonijo.V zaključnih poglavjih so orisani nastanek in dinamika razvoja te skupnosti, njen položaj in vloga v dolenjski poselitveni mreži in osvetljena vprašanja družbene organiziranosti, rodovne in vojaške hierarhije ter kultno-religiozne sfere.

    Description: Znanstvena monografija predstavlja najnovejše izsledke jezikoslovne raziskave razvoja najstarejšega slovenskega strokovnega izrazja, ki je bilo preneseno v pisni jezik. Slovenska krščanska terminologija, predvsem osnovno izrazje, povezano z liturgijo in verskim poukom, namreč obstaja in se razvija že polnih tisoč let. Prikaz razvoja krščanske terminologije je oprt na trdne gradivske temelje, ki jih zagotavljajo izpisi iz več kot 40 premišljeno izbranih, vzorčnih prevodov in priredb osnovnih verskih priročnikov od srede 16. do srede 19. stoletja. Poglavja v monografiji se razvrščajo v dva tematska sklopa: Krščanska terminologija po jezikovnozgodovinskih obdobjih od srede 16. do srede 19. stoletja in Poglavja iz zgodovinskega besedotvorja: krščanska terminologija.

Gre za tisto dokumentacijo, ki je nastala bodisi ob izkopavanjih in se je ohranila, bodisi pozneje na podlagi terenske dokumentacije in najdb, ki se niso ohranile. Grobišče Župna cerkev v Kranju ima preko 2500 arheološko raziskanih grobov iz časa od 7. st. do 18. st., zato se po velikosti in času trajanja neprekinjenega pokopavanja uvršča med največja srednjeveška grobišča v Evropi. Skoraj polovica teh grobov pripada zgodnjesrednjeveškemu obdobju. Gradivo obsega preko 1100 predmetov, za antropološko analizo je na voljo preko 700 okostij, ki jih hrani Gorenjski muzej v Kranju.V prvem zvezku predstavljamo grobišče, terenske dnevnike, katalog grobov in dnevnik meritev z izkopavanj leta 1953.

    Description: V knjigi so predstavljeni rezultati terenskih raziskav poznoantične naselbine Tonovcov grad pri Kobaridu, ki spada med najbolje ohranjene poznoantične naselbine v Sloveniji in na širšem območju vzhodnih Alp. Najprej je predstavljena lega same naselbine in njen današnji izgled, nato pa arheološka podoba Posočja v pozni antiki in mreža poti v tem obdobju.

    Description: The routes between the north Adriatic and the Apennine peninsula on the west and the Balkans and the central Danubian plains on the east ran across Razdrto ever since ancient times. In the late prehistory and in the early Roman era the pass of Razdrto was known under the name of Ocra as was the mountain above it.Several Bronze age sites were discovered in the area of the Razdrto pass.The posts in the Razdrto area from the end of the 2nd and first half of the 1st century BC (Mandrga, Preval) differ from the other sites along the east Alpine routes, as they were not spatially linked to any of the existing indigenous settlements and did not show any contact with the surroundings even with their small objects. Most of the remains can be explained as traces of Roman passengers who stopped at Razdrto for a shorter period of time and not as remnants of a significant Roman settlement.A gravel covered road was constructed across the Razdrto pass in the second half of the 1st century BC or in the Augustan period. A roadside building was erected in the middle or late Augustan period and demolished in the mid 1st century AD.The shift of transit from Razdrto to Hrušica (Ad Pirum) took place in the 1st century AD. Post 1st century AD written sources no longer mention the road across Ocra, and the archaeological remains dating after the mid 1st century AD are extremely modest at Razdrto.

    Zgodovinski pogledi na zadnje državno ljudsko štetje v Avstrijskem primorju 1910 (2022)

    Description: The Habsburg Monarchy carried out its first modern official population census in 1857. Since 1869, censuses were conducted every ten years with the critical date of 31 December. The censuses took into account the present population. From 1880 onwards, they also included a section on everyday language/language of communication, on the basis of which it was thenceforth possible to determine the national structure of the population in the country, even though the question thusly formulated did not yield accurate results. It was especially before the census of 1910 that the Slovenes and other Slavic nations in the monarchy demanded the elimination of the section on everyday language (lingua d'uso, Umgangssprache) and the introduction of a new section on nationality or mother tongue. The last Austrian population census of 1910 is a characteristic and important event from the political history of the Slovenes in the Austrian Littoral: characteristic because of the conduct of city authorities carrying out the census, and important because it represented a political victory of the Slavic population, after the established inaccuracies forced the authorities to order a revision of the census. Both the Yugoslav and Italian sides used the census of 1910 as evidence in setting their territorial claims during the peace negotiations after the First and Second World Wars.
    Description: Habsburška monarhija je prvo moderno uradno štetje prebivalstva izvedla leta 1857. Od leta 1869 dalje so popise izvajali vsakih deset let s kritičnim datumom 31. december. Štetja so popisovala prisotno prebivalstvo. Od leta 1880 so popisi vsebovali tudi rubriko o občevalnem/pogovornem jeziku. Tako je bilo mogoče poslej ugotavljati narodnostno sestavo prebivalstva v državi, čeprav tako formulirano vprašanje ni dajalo natančnih rezultatov. Slovenci in drugi slovanski narodi v monarhiji so zlasti pred štetjem leta 1910 zahtevali ukinitev rubrike občevalni jezik (lingua d'uso, Umgangssprache) in uvedbo nove rubrike o narodnosti ali o maternem jeziku. Zadnje avstrijsko ljudsko štetje iz leta 1910 je značilen in pomemben dogodek iz politične zgodovine Slovencev v Avstrijskem Primorju. Značilen je zaradi ravnanja mestnih oblasti, ki so štetje izvajale. Pomemben je zato, ker prestavlja politično zmago slovanskega prebivalstva, saj je oblast zaradi ugotovljenih nepravilnosti odredila revizijo štetja. Štetje leta 1910 je služilo tako jugoslovanski kot italijanski strani za dokazno gradivo ob postavljanju ozemeljskih zahtev pri mirovnih pogajanjih po prvi in po drugi svetovni vojni.

    Description: Knjiga je prva znanstvena monografija o arheologiji visoko srednjeveškega gradu v Sloveniji in se uvršča med le peščico tovrstnih knjig v širšem prostoru. Monografija sloni predvsem na analizi podatkov iz desetletja arheoloških izkopavanj v 80. in 90. letih 20. stoletja. V začetnem delu so predstavljeni pisni viri in interpretativni modeli v zvezi z nastankom in pomenom gradu. Sledi prikaz maloštevilnih, a nikakor ne nepomembnih slikovnih virov. Glavnino študije predstavljajo arheološki viri, predvsem priročniško uporabna tipokronološka analiza artefaktov, stratigrafija najdišča in prostorska analiza gradu.

In the second or cartographic part, in turn, features important historical maps of the Slovenian territory presented in chronological order. The format of the book enables an excellent presentation of the presented maps. The maps presented date from the mid-sixteenth century, when the first independent maps of present-day Slovenia were produced, to the beginning of the twentieth century, when cartography developed into a modern discipline. The aim of this book is to present the extensive Slovenian cartographic heritage.

    Description: Razprava je nastala v okviru mednarodnega projekta »Zamolčani holokavst: spomin na deportacijo prekmurskih Judov« ter je izčrpen prikaz ene najbolj groznih in žalostnih epizod sodobne svetovne in slovenske zgodovine. Besedilo je razdeljeno na dva dela, in sicer opis priprav in izvedbo »največjega organiziranega zločina v zgodovini civilizacije« ter predstavitev prizorišč tega zločina na slovenskih tleh. V prvem delu avtor osvetli okoliščine, zaradi katerih je do holokavsta in genocida nad slovanskimi narodi sploh prišlo oziroma zakaj in kako sta iz obrobnih ekstremističnih fašističnih in nacističnih idej vzniknila kar dva totalitarna imperija in kako sta človeštvo pripeljala do največje katastrofe v zgodovini. V drugem delu je podrobno predstavljeno dogajanje na slovenskih tleh, s poudarkom na Prekmurju, kjer so do leta 1944 delovale tri dobro organizirane in za pokrajino izjemno pomembne judovske skupnosti. Abstraktna in težko predstavljiva tragičnost druge svetovne vojne je tako predstavljena skozi konkretne usode pregnanih in skozi zgodbe o tistih, ki se niso nikoli vrnili.

    Description: Most na Soči ranks among the most prominent prehistoric sites in Europe. It is mainly known for the extensive cemetery from the Early Iron Age, which was first investigated in the late 19th century and revealed over 6000 burials. The rapid growth of the modern village of Most na Soči again led to large-scale archaeological excavations in the 1970s. These were conducted in the span of eleven years and unearthed one of the most significant Iron Age settlements in Slovenia and the wider south-eastern Alpine region.
    Description: Most na Soči sodi med najpomembnejša prazgodovinska najdišča Evrope. Znano je postalo zlasti po veliki nekropoli iz starejše železne dobe, ki so jo raziskovali ob koncu devetnajstega stoletja in na kateri so izkopali čez 6000 grobov.Hiter razvoj kraja je v sedemdesetih letih prejšnjega stoletja vzpodbudil ponovna arheološka izkopavanja. Trajala so enajst let, v tem času pa je bilo na območju današnje vasi temeljito raziskano eno najpomembnejših železnodobnih naselij ne le pri nas temveč tudi na širšem jugovzhodnoalpskem prostoru.Na začetku monografije je podan geografski oris kraja, temu pa sledi izčrpna zgodovina raziskovanj, ki ji je dodan seznam dosedanjih objav.V osrednjem delu knjige so predstavljeni gradbeni izvidi šestintridesetih hiš, ki so bile odkrite v vzhodnem predelu današnjega Mosta na Soči.Besedilo spremlja 229 načrtov in fotografij, ki odlično dopolnjujejo detajlne opise objektov.V zadnjem delu monografije je na sto tablah predstavljeno drobno gradivo, ki je bilo najdeno v stavbah.

    Description: The book ('Religiosity and consumption in the contemporary Japanese society‘) explores dilemmas regarding the effects of consumer culture on the secularization of religion. Author finds the key to understanding religion in a consumer society in the so-called popular religiosity, which she analyzes against the socio-economic and political contexts from early modern to contemporary Japanese society. Using various case studies she demonstrates how alongside official religiosity the Japanese pluralist religious field ‘allowed’ for popular religiosity with its worldly interests and practical benefits, which has had a positive catalytic role in the modernization processes. A contemporary counterpoint to such traditional popular religiosity is presented through empirical research conducted at Togenuki jizō − a popular religious site in Tokyo. The street vendors of food and clothing in front of the temple are seen to borrow religious symbols to successfully promote their products, whereas the buying of products embellished with religious symbols (i.e. during the so called ennichi festivities) may serve as a means of affirming social identities and establishing temporary communal contexts, within which religious practices take place at relatively regular intervals, thus strengthening the beliefs behind the religious symbols.
    Description: Danes se pogosto poudarja kvarni vpliv modernizacije in potrošniške kulture na religijo in religioznost, a že sam obstoj tradicionalne religioznosti v (post)moderni japonski družbi kaže na skrivnost nekakšnega sožitja. Avtorica knjige ključ do razumevanja religije v potrošniški družbi poišče v t. i. ljudski religioznosti, ki jo analizira v družbenoekonomskih in političnih kontekstih od zgodnjemoderne do sodobne japonske družbe. Pokaže, kako je japonsko pluralno religijsko polje ob uradni religiji »dopuščalo« ljudsko religioznost v njenih tuzemskih interesih in praktičnih koristih, v »imanentističnem« pojmovanju božanstev in v eklektičnem, neafiliacijskem prakticiranju religije, s čimer je ta imela ugodno spodbujevalno vlogo v modernizacijskih procesih. Z empirično raziskavo potrošniškega prostora priljubljenega templja Togenuki jizō v središču Tokia pokaže, da nakupovanje oblačil in hrane z religioznimi simboli (na številne praznične dni templja) služi potrjevanju družbenih identitet in vzpostavljanju začasnih skupnostnih kontekstov, v katerih se dokaj regularno vršijo religiozne prakse in krepi verovanje, ki stoji za religioznimi simboli.

    Description: This popular-science publication describes the pile-dwellings of the Ljubljansko barje, which were created in the first half of the 5th millennium BC. However, when the lake was completely overgrown with swamps and marshes (at the latest around the middle of the 2nd millennium), the construction of such settlements stopped. From then on, new settlements were built on the outskirts of the lake banks, where the fields were previously. There they also farmed livestock such as cattle, sheep, goats and pigs. They were accompanied by dogs. Hunting and fishing were also important economic activities~they harvested fruits in the forests. They made pottery vessels. Findings of copper and metallurgical articles, however, prove that at least since the 4th millennium BC they were engaged in copper metallurgy. Logboats were used to navigate the lake and in the second half of the 4th millennium even for routes outside the Ljubljansko barje. In short, they were very resourceful and were able to adapt well to the environment in which they lived.Only in Slovenian
    Description: Knjiga na poljuden način opisuje kolišča Ljubljanskega barja, ki so nastala okvirno v prvi polovici 5. tisočletja pr. Kr. Ko pa sta takratno jezero v celoti prerasla močvirje in barje (najpozneje okoli sredine 2. tisočletja), se je gradnja takšnih naselij ustavila. Odtlej so nova bivališča gradili na trdinskem obrobju, kjer so bile dotlej njive. Tam so se koliščarji ukvarjali tudi z rejo domačih živali, kot so govedo, ovce, koze in svinje. Spremljali so jih psi. Pomembni gospodarski dejavnosti sta bili tudi lov in ribolov. V skoraj nedotaknjeni pokrajini so nabirali gozdne sadeže. Izdelovali so keramične posode. Najdbe predmetov iz bakra in metalurških pripomočkov pa dokazujejo, da so se vsaj od 4. tisočletja pr. Kr. dalje ukvarjali tudi z metalurgijo bakra. Za plovbo po jezeru so uporabljali drevake, ki so jih dolbli iz ogromnih hrastovih debel. V drugi polovici 4. tisočletja pa so za poti zunaj Ljubljanskega barja uporabljali tudi vozove. Skratka, bili so zelo iznajdljivi in so se znali dobro prilagoditi na okolje, v katerem so živeli.

    Description: If the term “prehistory” is used for the time and space not “seen” by written records, then there are “prehistoric” areas also in the time, which is generally considered “history”. In this sense, there are still vast areas of Europe in the early medieval period, where the state of written records can be described as “prehistoric”. It appears to be true especially for the regions settled by the Slavs. Among them is the area of the present-day Slovenia, where Bled lies. The latter does not “enter the history” before 1004.
    Description: Če izraz »prazgodovina« uporabimo za čas in prostor, ki ga pisni viri ne »vidijo«, potem imamo ozemlja, ki so »prazgodovinska« tudi v času, ki sicer splošno velja za »zgodovino«. V tem pomenu še vedno obstajajo v Evropi v času zgodnjega srednjega veka obširna ozemlja, kjer stanje pisnih virov lahko opišemo kot prazgodovinsko. Še posebej velja to za ozemlja, ki so jih naseljevali Slovani. Mednje spada tudi današnja Slovenija, kjer leži Bled. Ta »stopi v zgodovino« šele leta 1004.

    Description: Kalejdoskop goriške preteklosti, zgodbe o spominu in pozabi ('Kaleidoscope of the Past - Memories and Forgotten Stories from the Border') is a story about lives of the people living along the Slovenian-Italian border. In this area, the idea of the border is manifold, it is a state border, a territorial border, a temporal border between what had happened and the interpretations of past events today. The author discusses the divisive past and the seemingly uniting present permeating the area. She tells a story about the city Gorica, to which both Italians and Slovenians lay claims, a story about the struggle for redemption and freedom, about people who stroll along the same river, shop in the same shops and eat indulge similar cuisines. Still, they manage to retain a thin line of differentiation, a mentally construed abyss invariantly fortifying the distance. Since 2007, the border is visually gone yet it remains the criterion of spatial differentiation and identity formation, the founding stone of respective communities.
    Description: Kalejdoskop goriške preteklosti pripoveduje o odnosih in življenju ljudi ob meji. Meja je tu razumljena večplastno, kot državna meja, prostorska meja, časovna meja med tem, kar se je zgodilo, in današnjim pomenom teh dogodkov. Delo razpravlja o preteklosti, ki ta prostor deli, in sedanjosti, ki vsaj na videz ta prostor združuje. Pripoveduje o mestu Gorica, ki si ga lastijo pripadniki obeh nacionalnih skupnosti, o borbi za odrešitev in svobodo, o odnosu med ljudmi, ki se sprehajajo ob isti reki, kupujejo v istih trgovinah in jedo podobne jedi, pri tem pa ohranjajo tanko linijo medsebojne različnosti, miselno konstruiran prepad, ki med njimi zaradi drugačnosti utrjuje distanco. Meja, ki je iz pokrajine vizualno izginila decembra 2007, ostaja kriterij prostorskega ločevanja in oblikovanja identitete, ki upravičuje obstoj posamezne skupnosti.

    Description: Študija obravnava vizitacijske zapisnike kot specifično arhivsko gradivo, ki dokumentira stanje cerkvenih objektov in opreme v določenih časovnih presekih, in na osnovi analize postavlja izhodišča za uporabo tega gradiva v umetnostnozgodovinskih raziskavah. Stanje in spremembe spremlja pod vidikom cerkvenih predpisov oz. smernic tridentinskega koncila na področju sakralne umetnosti in pod vidikom umetnostne politike posameznih ljubljanskih škofov 17. stoletja. Na temelju obsežnega gradiva ugotavlja živahno, tako v cerkvenopravnih kategorijah kot tudi z novimi estetskimi merili pogojeno umetnostno dejavnost obravnavanega časa. Dodani so regesti zapisnikov splošnih vizitacij (ločeno za ljubljanski in za gornjegrajski del) in terminološki slovarček najpomembnejših izrazov.

    Description: Prvi svetovni atlas v slovenskem jeziku je v obdobju med letoma 1869 in 1877 po listih izdajala Slovenska matica. Redakcijo so zaupali znanemu jezikoslovcu in pravniku Mateju Cigaletu (1819–1889), ki je opravil izjemno delo. V novi izdaji je faksimilom osemnajstih zemljevidov dodana monografija – sedem temeljitih znanstvenih študij z rezultati proučevanj predvsem političnih in družbenih razmer, ki so vzpodbudile in omogočile izid Atlanta, okoliščin njegovega nastanka, problemov, ki so se porajali ob izvedbi, kartografskih tehnik, ki so bile tedaj uveljavljene in Cigaletovega pristopa k slovenjenju tujih zemljepisnih imen. Spremna monografija je dopolnjena z imenskim kazalom, v katerem je zajetih 28.075 zemljepisnih imen z vseh zemljevidov.

    Description: The third, online Slovenian edition of the History of Historiographic Thought combines all the original texts of the first (2006) and second (2016) editions as well as some new ones. It is an answer to the specific needs of the community of readers, especially teachers and students of history and related sciences. The book covers over two and a half millennia long history of the evolution of historiography since its earliest beginnings~new (and in some cases old) translations of selected chapters of the major works of Western historical thought, accompanying chapters and biographical sketches form an outline of the development of historiography in Greek and Roman antiquity (including some basic texts of non-historians), a comprehensive review of medieval authors with special emphasis on the Byzantine and Renaissance historiography, followed by a thoughtful selection of early and modern authors. The excerpts from their most influential reflections on the meanings of historiography define the historiography of the Enlightenment, confronts the national and positivist interpretations of the past, presents sources of the so-called new historiography and assesses the impact of postmodernism on the development of past ten years in historiography and the creation of a new cultural history, which inaugurated the 21st century.

    Description: The creation of the Illyrian Provinces is considered to be one of the most important events in Slovenian history, not only by demonstrating that the Habsburg rule was not eternal and untouchable, but also by bringing about global changes in ideational, economic and social areas. The Illyrian Provinces were an important ideational and political factor in the Slovenian social and political development. Given the altered political situation in Europe and especially in view of the establishment of the independent Slovenian state, the renewed discussion on the Illyrian Provinces bears multiple new implications. On the one hand, it spreads knowledge about international developments on Slovenian soil, while on the other, scientifically more pertinent, it presents not only an analysis of hitherto research but also brings into Slovenian historiography new findings based on new materials and new methodological approaches.
    Description: Nastanek Ilirskih provinc velja za enega pomembnih dogodkov v slovenski zgodovini, ki ni samo dokazal, da je oblast Habsburžanov večna in nedotakljiva, ampak je prinesel tudi globalne spremembe na idejnem, gospodarskem in socialnem področju. Ilirske province so bile pomembno idejno in politično gibalo slovenskega družbenopolitičnega razvoja. Glede na spremenjene politične razmere v Evropi, zlasti pa spričo nastanka samostojne slovenske države, ima prenovljena obravnava Ilirskih provinc številne nove implikacije. Na eni strani širi vedenje o mednarodnih dogodkih na slovenskih tleh, na drugi in strokovno pomembnejši pa predstavlja analizo dosedanjih raziskav in vnos novih spoznanj, temelječih na novem gradivu in novih metodoloških pristopih, v slovenski zgodovinopisni prostor.

    Description: Pristava in Bled belongs among those archaeological sites which, in the extent and inter-connectedness of the information they provide, represent a pattern in which numerous general processes are revealed. In solving the puzzle of Pristava, we are also to a great extent settling altogether the generally unresolved problems of the Eastern Alps in the Early Middle Ages.Firstly, a taphonomic analysis of the settlement is presented. This is followed by a classification of the earthenware and its absolute dating. In order to do this, a completely new dating procedure was developed. Although by no means simple, it has nevertheless proved to be both applicable and successful. It is now generally available and of assistance to all.
    Description: Blejska Pristava spada med tista arheološka najdišča, ki po obsegu in zapletenosti informacij, ki jih ponujajo, predstavljajo vzorec, v katerem se kažejo številni splošni procesi. Ko rešujemo uganke Pristave, rešujemo v veliki meri tudi povsem splošne nerešene probleme vzhodnih Alp v zgodnjem srednjem veku.

    Description: The monograph presents the results of two-year excavations (1982 and 1983) on the late-antique fortified hilltop settlement Korinjski hrib above Veliki Korini in Suha Krajina, where the remains of five defence towers and an early Christian church were explored. The settlement was initially recognized as a military post and as such represented an exception in the Eastern Alpine area. Such a definition raised some doubts and dilemmas. These dilemmas are presented - in addition to geographical outline and research history - in the Introduction.The following set presents - in text and with abundant graphic material – field reports of excavations of towers, the church, and a small cemetery.All groups of finds (non-pottery, pottery and coins) and anthropological and archaeological studies are also presented.An extensive chapter is devoted to the interpretation of architectural remains (towers, church, the fort as a whole).The conclusion also discusses the prehistoric settlement, and the results of structural survey of the ruins of church of St George just below the fort.
    Description: V monografiji so predstavljeni rezultati dveletnih izkopavanj (1982 in 1983) na utrjeni poznoantični višinski naselbini Korinjski hrib nad Velikim Korinjem v Suhi Krajini, kjer so bili raziskani ostanki petih obrambnih stolpov in zgodnjekrščanske cerkve. Naselbina je bila že v začetku prepoznana kot vojaška postojanka in je kot taka predstavljala izjemo v vzhodnoalpskem prostoru. Taka opredelitev je zato vzbudila tudi nekatere dvome o njeni pravilnosti. Omenjene dileme so − poleg geografskega orisa in zgodovine raziskav − predstavljene v uvodnem delu. Sledi obsežen sklop, ki v tekstu in z bogatim slikovnim gradivom predstavi terenske izvide izkopavanj stolpov, cerkve in pripadajočega manjšega grobišča.Obsežno poglavje je posvečeno interpretaciji arhitekturnih ostankov (stolpi, cerkev, utrdba kot celota). V zakjučku je obravnavana še prazgodovinska poselitev ter rezultati strukturnega pregleda danes porušene cerkvice sv. Jurija tik pod utrdbo.

    Description: The monograph presents different names of Piran Bay (Slo. Piranski zaliv) over time. Despite the leading onomastic topic, the publication is designed as a regional-geographic review of Piran Bay and its hinterland, where all the main physical- and socio-geographical characteristics are presented. This book describes the basic hydro-geographic characteristics of Piran Bay as a part of Gulf of Trieste and the Adriatic Sea. The monograph talks about the historical development, salt making in Sečovlje salt pans and the circumstances that led to the now more than two decades-long border dispute between Slovenia and Croatia. A significant chapter is dedicated to the presentation of the different naming of the Bay of Piran through time. According to the chronological order, 104 different cartographic sources present the name changes of the Piran Bay through time and when a certain specific geographic name appeared. Based on media analysis, one of the chapters describes the relation between the names Savudrijska vala or Savudrijski zaljev (Savudrija Bay) and Piranski zaliv or Piranski zaljev (Piran Bay).
    Description: Monografija predstavlja različna poimenovanja Piranskega zaliva skozi čas. Kljub vodilni imenoslovni tematiki je publikacija zasnovana tudi kot regionalnogeografski prikaz Piranskega zaliva in njegovega zaledja, pri čemer so predstavljene tako poglavitne naravnogeografske kot družbenogeografske značilnosti. Posebej so izpostavljene temeljne hidrogeografske poteze Piranskega zaliva kot dela Tržaškega zaliva in Jadranskega morja. Precejšen poudarek je namenjen zgodovinskemu razvoju, pri čemer je izpostavljeno solinarstvo s Sečoveljskimi solinami. Podrobneje so osvetljene tudi okoliščine, ki so privedle do zdaj že več kot dve desetletji trajajočega mejnega spora med Slovenijo in Hrvaško. Osrednje poglavje obravnava poimenovanja območja Piranskega zaliva skozi čas. V njem so kronološko razvrščeni 104 različni kartografski viri, ki omogočajo razbrati, kako se je poimenovanje zaliva spreminjalo skozi čas in kdaj se je določeno ime pojavilo oziroma, kdaj je prevladovalo. Na podlagi medijske analize je prikazana raba novodobnih hrvaških imen Savudrijska vala/Savudrijski zaljev na eni strani in starega slovenskega imena Piranski zaliv oziroma starega hrvaškega Piranski zaljev na drugi.

    Description: In the years 1899–1901,Karel Štrekelj (1859–1912) held a course on Slovenian literature at the University of Graz. These are the first university lectures on Slovenian literature in the Slovenian language, published in two volumes. However, Štrekelj's history is more than this: it is a monumental, classically balanced synthesis of all the former knowledge of Slovenian literature, given against rich historical, social, and linguistic backgrounds.The present book includes volumes three and four of Štrekelj’s manuscript in a historically faithful, critical and annotated copy. Štrekelj opens a surprisingly fresh, original view of the era of Prešeren and Bleiweis, as well as the period up to the end of the 19th century, focusing on a series of major and minor figures, some of whom are almost forgotten today. He presents this period, in which there was no lack of disputes and disagreements, from a higher perspective: he attempts to explain each individual in the light of his or her own endeavours in the historical period, and to demonstrate the essence of his or her contribution to Slovenian literature. In so doing, Karel Štrekelj stands high above not only the internal disputes of individual writers in Slovenian literature, but also the ideological battles that later literary historians admitted to their literary histories through wide open doors.
    Description: Karel Štrekelj (1859–1912) je imel na univerzi v Gradcu v letih 1899–1901 predavanja o slovenski literaturi. To so prva univerzitetna predavanja o slovenski književnosti v slovenskem jeziku. Hkrati je Štrekljeva Zgodovina več kot to: je monumentalna, klasično uravnotežena sinteza vse dotedanje vednosti o slovenskem slovstvu, podana na bogatem ozadju zgodovinskega, socialnega in zlasti jezikovnega razvoja. Ta knjiga prinaša III. in IV. del Štrekljevega rokopisa v historično zvestem, kritičnem in komentiranem prepisu. Štrekelj odpira v knjigi presenetljivo svež pogled na Prešernovo in Bleiweisovo dobo ter čas do izteka 19. stoletja z vrsto velikih in manjših, danes skoraj pozabljenih osebnosti. Čas, v katerem ni manjkalo sporov in nesoglasij, Štrekelj prikaže z višje perspektive: vsako osebnost skuša pojasniti v luči njenih lastnih prizadevanj v zgodovinskem času in prikazati bralcu, v čem je njen prispevek k slovenskemu slovstvu. S tem stoji Karel Štrekelj visoko nad notranjimi spori ne le posameznih pisateljev v naši književnosti, ampak tudi visoko nad ideološkimi boji, ki so jim poznejši literarni zgodovinarji odprli vrata v svoje literarne zgodovine.

    Description: Kučar near Podzemelj represents one of the most significant archaeological sites not only in Slovenia but also in the wider southeastern alpine region. It is an extensive complex composed of an Iron Age and Late Roman settlement upon the hill Kučar, as well as numerous necropoli that are distributed throughout the villages of Podzemelj, Zemelj, Škrilje and Grm. The site is well-known all over the world for its elaborate material finds originating from the cemeteries there. The book presents the results from rescue excavations that were carried out between the years 1975 and 1979 on the northern top of Kučar by the Institute for Archaeology. Substantial remains of a settlement dating to the Early and Late Iron Ages (8th –1st centuries BC) were excavated, as well as the even more surprising discovery of an Early Christian building complex (5th century AD) incorporating two churches, a baptistery and a large building with an enclosing wall that was reinforced with two towers. This publication concerning the settlement on Kučar near Podzemelj is the third monograph regarding this site. The first two publications presented the material finds from the Iron Age necropolis, preserved at the National Museum in Ljubljana and at the Museum of Natural History in Vienna. This third publication includes a contribution by Metka Culiberg and Alojz Šercelj on the investigations of organic remains from Kučar.
    Description: Kučar pri Podzemlju je eno najpomembnejših arheoloških najdišč ne le v Sloveniji ampak tudi na širšem jugovzhodnoalpskem prostoru. Gre za obsežen kompleks, v katerega sodi železnodobno in poznoantično naselje na hribu Kučarju in številne nekropole, ki so raztresene okoli vasi Podzemelj, Zemelj, Škrilje in Grm. V svetu je postal znan predvsem zaradi bogatih najdb iz tamkajšnjih grobišč. V knjigi so predstavljeni rezultati zaščitnih raziskovanj, ki jih je med leti 1975 in 1979 na severnem vrhu Kučarja opravil Inštitut za arheologijo. Takrat so bili namreč izkopani bogati ostanki naselja iz starejše in mlajše železne dobe (8.–1. stoletje pred n. št.), še večje presenečenje pa je bilo odkritje zgodnjekrščanskega stavbnega kompleksa (5. stoletje po n. št.) z dvema cerkvama, baptisterijem, veliko stavbo in obzidjem, ki je bilo ojačano z dvema stolpoma.

    Description: This scientific monograph ('Wars in the Territory of Slovenia. Testimonies, Memories, and Images') examines the life of the civilian population in Slovenia in times of war. Although most of its authors are not historians they frequently encounter testimonies of suffering, wartime events, and post-war developments during their research of the dwelling culture, folk creativity, urban life, the family, and the village community. In the course of their work they have discovered a number of records, memoirs, diaries, photographs, letters as well as lesser-known stories about the life of the civilian population in Slovenia, particularly from the interwar period. The first four papers examine the life during the First World War~different destinies of Slovene families~the devastation of Vipavska Dolina~and famine, deprivation, and hardship on the front, all of which are also reflected in Slovene military folk songs. The following two articles deal with the fate of Jewish families in Prekmurje and with the civilian life in Goričko during the Second World War. The last contribution looks at Slovenes in the 16th and the 17th century during military conflicts in Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Gorizia and its vicinity.
    Description: Znanstvena monografija obravnava življenje civilistov v času vojn na slovenskem ozemlju. Čeprav avtorji večinoma niso zgodovinarji, se z izpovedmi o trpljenju, pomanjkanju, smrti, dojemanju vojnega in povojnega dogajanja srečujejo ob raziskavah bivalne kulture, ljudske ustvarjalnosti, prehrane, mestnega življenja, družinske in vaške skupnost ter gospodarske zgodovine. Pri tem so se jim razkrili številni zapisi, spomini, dnevniki, fotografije in pisma ter manj znane podobe življenja večinskega prebivalstva, predvsem med prvo in drugo svetovno vojno: njihove male in velike bitke, ki do sedaj v zgodovinskih delih o vojnah na Slovenskem še niso podrobno osvetljene. Prve štiri razprave opisujejo življenje med prvo svetovno vojno, različne usode slovenskih družin, razdejanje v Vipavski dolini, lakoto in pomanjkanje ter težke razmere na frontah, ki so se odražale tudi v slovenskih ljudskih vojaških pesmih. Sledita prispevka o usodi judovskih družin v Prekmurju in življenju civilnega prebivalstva na Goričkem med drugo svetovno vojno. Knjigo sklene obravnava Slovencev med vojaškimi spopadi v Furlaniji in na Goriškem v 16. in 17. stoletju.

    Description: Within the framework of the basic research project The Župna cerkev Cemetery in Kranj, intended for the publication and research of materials from archaeological excavations of the eponymous burial ground, digital primary forms of archival sources are presented. So far, we have published field journals, field drawings and anthropological diaries in six volumes, and the new e-publication shows sketching blocks with field drawings of planums and more than 1,500 graves excavated between 1969 and 1973.

    Description: Through the analysis of the Old Russian mentality in the seventeenth century, the monograph (‘“The Life of Archpriest Avvakum” : Russian Tradition Put to the Test’) sheds light on the problem and cultural-historical specificity of the phenomenon of the so-called Old Russian literature. Linguistic complexities (prohibitions, rules) point to deep-rooted norms that prescribed the Old Russian way of governing, the ecclesiastical system and the relationship between dealing with the existing knowledge and Christian tradition.
    Description: Žitje protopopa Avvakuma je bilo napisano v sredini 17. stoletja, ki je v ruski zgodovini nenaključno označeno za »prehodno«. Stoletje spreminjanja in nepomirljivih trenj so pogojevale okoliščine dogodkov, katerih zgodovinski oris se omejuje predvsem na obdobje, ko se zgodi prelomna cerkvena reforma. Takrat se je zgodil cerkveni razkol in so bili iz Ruske cerkve izobčeni t. i. razkolniki, ki so se zavzemali za ohranitev pretekle staroruske tradicije tako v bogoslužju kakor tudi v pismenosti in celo v vsakdanjem življenju. »Prehodno stoletje« pa je avtorica predstavila skozi »oči« razkolnika protopopa Avvakuma: njegovo življenje (biografija), družbena in literarna dejavnost so povezani v celosten in vsestranski prikaz njegovega (v žitju izpričanega) religioznega nazora. Njegovo »življenjsko« delo pa je literarno besedilo, v mnogem prelomno v zgodovini ruske književnosti, saj pisano izpod roke neanonimnega avtorja in naslovljeno kot Žitje, odpira vprašanje o začetkih avtobiografije v Rusiji.

The monograph was compiled by twenty-three Slovenian and international authors whose contributions discuss numerous areas spanning general, cultural, music, art and literary history. It is divided into several chapters. The introduction, containing the presentation of the Slovenian provinces in the 18th century, serves as the basic starting point and is followed by chapters “Pravna, upravna in cerkvena zgodovina” [“Legal, Administrative and Ecclesiastical History”], “Umetnost in obrt” [“Art and Crafts”], “Kulturna in socialna zgodovina” [“Cultural and Social History”] and “Jezikoslovje” [“Linguistics”]. The monograph, which was published in digital form, is also distinguished by rich pictorial content.
    Description: Neznano in pozabljeno iz 18. stoletja na Slovenskem je prva monografija Slovenskega društva za preučevanje 18. stoletja. V njej so predstavljeni manj znani pojavi in vidiki 18. stoletja na Slovenskem. Pri nastanku monografije je sodelovalo 23 slovenskih in tujih avtorjev, ki so s prispevki posegli na številna področja, od obče in kulturne do glasbene, umetnostne in literarne zgodovine. Monografija je razdeljena na več poglavij. Uvodu, v katerem so kot splošno izhodišče predstavljene slovenske dežele v 18. stoletju, sledijo še poglavja Pravna, upravna in cerkvena zgodovina, Umetnost in obrt, Kulturna in socialna zgodovina ter Jezikoslovje. Monografijo, ki je izšla v elektronski obliki, odlikuje tudi bogato slikovno gradivo.

    Description: V okviru temeljnega raziskovalnega projekta Grobišče Župna cerkev v Kranju, ki je namenjen objavi in raziskavam gradiva iz arheoloških izkopavanj istoimenskega grobišča, v digitalni obliki predstavljamo primarne arhivske vire.V prvem zvezku predstavljamo grobišče, terenske dnevnike, katalog grobov in dnevnik meritev z izkopavanj leta 1953.V drugem zvezku pa smo objavili drugi del arhivskega gradiva iz leta 1953. Predmet objave je neke vrste digitalni faksimile kartotečnih kartic, saj je vsaka kartica prikazana v formatu izvirnika. V obeh knjigah skupaj je torej predstavljena vsa doslej znana pisna in risarska dokumentacija teh izkopavanj.V tretji knjigi smo predstavili arhivsko gradivo iz let 1964 in 1965 ter iz Mestne hiše leta 1966, ki ga hrani Gorenjski muzej v Kranju.Terenska dokumentacija obdobja med letoma 1969 in 1973 obsega dnevnike, terenske risbe, načrte in sezname fotografij. V tem zvezku predstavljamo samo dnevnike (s prepisi), ki kažejo, da so izkopali 13 domnevno starejšeželezno­dobnih, 315 zgodnjesrednjeveških in 1220 mlajših grobov, torej skupno kar 1548 grobov.

    Description: The hill of Panorama in Ptuj is one of the most important areas of Roman Poetovio. Chance finds and small-scale excavations in the past centuries have revealed the existence of significant archaeological remains that included buildings with numerous rooms and objects dedicated to a variety of deities, the remains of a sanctuary dedicated to the Nutrices, an Early Christian church, an aqueduct and a cemetery. The geophysical investigations have revealed the urban design with a rectilinear grid of streets and building plots.The first few chapters of the book present the history of archaeological research on Panorama, the analytical approaches and the geophysical investigations with the methods employed and the final results. The main chapters correlate the archaeological data of differing quality and nature (chance finds, rescue excavations, old and modern archaeological investigations, geophysical surveys) and locate them with a series of plans. The comprehensive overview is supported by a Catalogue of stone monuments that presents the basic data, descriptions, bibliography, commentary and photographs of the stone objects recovered on Panorama.
    Description: Na griču Panorama na Ptuju, kjer leži eden pomembnejših predelov antičnega mesta Poetovio, so geofizikalne raziskave razkrile urbanistično zasnovo s potekom ulic in pravokotnimi stavbnimi parcelami. V knjigi je združeno dozdajšnje vedenje o Panorami, hkrati gre za nadaljevanje sistematične predstavitve arheoloških najdišč Ptuja. Uvodna poglavja prinašajo zgodovino arheoloških raziskav, izhodišča analize in potek geofizikalnih raziskav z uporabljenimi metodami ter glavnimi rezultati. V osrednjih poglavjih smo povezali arheološke podatke različne kakovosti (naključne najdbe, zaščitna izkopavanja, stara in moderna arheološka raziskovanja, geofizikalne preglede) in jih umestili v prostor s pomočjo številnih načrtov. Celovito sliko dopolnjuje dodatek – Katalog kamnitih spomenikov z osnovnimi podatki, opisi, literaturo, komentarjem in fotografijami.

    Description: The monograph, the first regarding the Mesolithic in Slovenia, presents a discussion of two exceptionally rich sites in the Karst in western Slovenia: Viktorjev spodmol and Mala Triglavca. Viktorjev spodmol is a newly discovered site, where test excavation have only been done, while research is underway at Mala Triglavca already a while.The compilation primarily presents a detailed review of Viktorjev spodmol. Individual chapters address the topic of microlithic tools attributed to the Sauveterrien-Castelovien complex, their typology and relations with other sites from this complex, and with a special emphasis on the chronology and chronological correlations between Mesolithic sites in northern Italy, including the Trieste karst, and western Slovenia. The remaining chapters systematically present rare vegetal remains, the exceptionally rich collections of mollusc's fauna, ectothermic vertebrates and small mammals as well as the remains of large mammals.Mala Triglavca is equally profuse, although it is discussed only summarily in this monograph, and with an emphasis on Mesolithic artefacts. From among these finds, the numerous trapezes are particularly noteworthy, and from among the more rare finds at least the bone whistle and flute. Also noteworthy are the rare human remains discovered at both sites.
    Description: V zborniku, prvem s področja mezolitika v Sloveniji, sta obravnavani dve izjemno bogati najdišči na Krasu v zahodni Sloveniji: Viktorjev spodmol in Mala Triglavca. Viktorjev spodmol je novo odkrito najdišče, kjer so se raziskave komaj začele, v Mali Triglavci pa potekajo že dalj časa. Po veliki gostoti najdb na volumensko enoto, med katerimi izstopajo kamniti artefakti in ostanki različnih živalskih vrst, se najdišči lahko primerjata z vsemi ključnimi mezolitskimi najdišči v Evropi. Podrobno je obdelan predvsem Viktorjev spodmol. Pomembna je primerjava rezultatov različnih terenskih in poterenskih metod, uporabljenih v Mali Triglavci in predvsem v Viktorjevem spodmolu.

Mojca Kovačič se v svojem prispevku sprašuje o mejah in svobodi pri ustvarjanju ljudske glasbe. Géza Pálffy piše o obrambi pred Turki in vojaški kartografiji v habsburški monarhiji na področju Madžarske, Hrvaške in Slavonije v 16. stoletju. Prispevek Arna Strohmeyerja se ukvarja z mirovno misijo, na katero je kot vodja cesarskega veleposlaništva k Visoki porti leta 1719 odpotoval plemič iz spodnjega Porenja Damian Hugo von Virmont. Raymond Miller se posveča mestu Jerneja Kopitarja v srednjeevropskem prostoru v začetku 19. stoletja. Andrej Stopar razpravlja o ruskem odnosu do polpretekle zgodovine, predvsem o odnosu do Stalina. Jure Zupan pa piše o pomenski mreži slovenskih glagolov, ki jo sestavlja približno 15.500 slovenskih glagolov, združenih v 1011 pomenskih skupin.

    Description: The book ('Historical cartography of Slovenian territory') presents the history of cartographic development in Europe and Slovenian territory with a special emphasis on a uniform methodology of studying old maps. The introduction provides definitions of the basic cartographic terminology and discusses the importance of maps, their study, and the development of European cartography from its beginnings to the twentieth century. This is followed by a presentation of cartographic elements and their classification into five basic groups (i.e., natural, built, mathematical, and explanatory elements plus geographical names), and an analysis of their historical development. The main part of the volume presents the methodology for studying cartographic elements and the results of an analysis of fifty-eight medium-scale maps of what is now Slovenia from the mid-sixteenth century to the end of the nineteenth century. A list of basic information on the most important maps of Slovenian territory is added at the end as an appendix. Maps can serve as the basis for exploring and studying landscapes and their processes. Old maps provide original information and are thus considered primary historical sources. The methodology used in this volume makes it possible to study these primary sources in a uniform manner across longer time periods.
    Description: Monografija predstavlja zgodovino kartografskega razvoja v evropskem in slovenskem prostoru, s posebnim poudarkom na enotni metodologiji proučevanja starih zemljevidov. V uvodnem delu so opredeljeni temeljni kartografski izrazi, pomen kartografskih del, njihovo proučevanje ter razvoj evropske kartografije od njenih začetkov do 20. stoletja. Sledi predstavitev kartografskih elementov ter njihova delitev na pet osnovnih skupin (naravni, grajeni, matematični, pojasnjevalni, zemljepisna imena), razčlenjen pa je tudi njihov zgodovinski razvoj. V osrednjem delu knjige avtor predstavi metodologijo za proučevanje kartografskih elementov ter rezultate analize 58 zemljevidov srednjega merila današnjega ozemlja Slovenije od sredine 16. stoletja do konca 19. stoletja. Kot priloga je na koncu dodan seznam z osnovnimi podatki o najpomembnejših zemljevidih, ki prikazujejo ozemlje Slovenije. Zemljevidi so lahko osnova za spoznavanje ter proučevanje pokrajine in njenih procesov. Stari zemljevidi prinašajo izvirne podatke in zato sodijo med primarne zgodovinske vire. Uporabljena metodologija omogoča, da te primarne vire proučujemo na enoten način skozi daljša časovna obdobja.

    Description: This book ('The art of music in the period from Monteverdi to Bach')is an introduction to the history of Baroque music. It starts by describing seminal innovations in Italian music of the last decades of the 16th century, and terminates by presenting new trends in the music of the first half of the 18th century. The text is divided into twenty chronologically arranged chapters that discuss the most important issues in the development of Baroque music in Italy, Germany, France and England. Each chapter consists of several subchapters that focus on particular topics, such as musical life in specific historical environments, important musical institutions, typical music genres, their origin and development, composers' oeuvres, their biographies, and typical musical forms. Musical genres and composers are illustrated by several dozens of original analytical descriptions of particular musical works. Special chapters are devoted to broader theoretical issues of Baroque music. At the end of the monograph there is a substantial name- and subject index.
    Description: Monografija prikazuje zgodovino evropske umetne glasbe v obdobju baroka. V vsebinskem smislu ima tri obsežnejše dele: prvi je posvečen epohalnim novostim v italijanski glasbi na prehodu v 17. stol.~drugi opisuje glasbo v 17. stol. v štirih glasbeno najpomembnejših evropskih deželah (Italija, nemške dežele, Francija, Anglija), tretji pa glasbo v prvi polovici 18. stol., ko je mogoče opaziti določeno ustalitev internacionalno uveljavljenih žanrov in glasbenih oblik. V delu se prepletajo različne vsebinske sestavine: opisano je glasbeno življenje v posameznih zgodovinskih okoljih~na to se navezujejo prikazi glasbenih žanrov~opisane so posamezne zgodovinske glasbene oblike, njihov nastanek in razvoj~prikazana je vrsta skladateljskih osebnosti~slednjič vključuje monografija vrsto analitično-kritiških opisov posameznih izbranih kompozicij, ki ilustrirajo glasbene oblike, žanre in skladateljske osebnosti.

    Description: The volume Historični seminar 14 ('Historical Seminar 14'), issued in the time of transformed reality of what we knew and took for granted, draws attention to the fact that the image we cultivate of ourselves and our history may sometimes be too simplified to be entirely real. At first, the volume both revises already known chapters of Church history and introduces hitherto unknown ones. Simon Malmenvall’s analysis of the characters of the noble martyrs Boris and Gleb, Jovan Vladimir, and Magnus Erlendsson shows how the stories of their martyrdom had a nation-building function. Celeste McNamara’s article on Giovanni Barbarigo introduces the unusual and less well-known topic of seventeenth-century missions. Monika Deželak Trojar analyzes in detail Johann Ludwig Schönleben’s German and Latin Lenten sermons. Aleš Maver’s article discusses why Latin disappeared so quickly from Slovenian churches after the Second Vatican Council. On the other hand, the pre-modern religious practices of nature worshippers in Slovenia are discussed by Cirila Toplak. Modern times and also more political issues are examined by Tomaž Ivešić who focuses on the increase in ethnic tensions in Yugoslavia in the early 1970s, while Aleksandar Takovski traces the historical representation of heroic figures in four former Yugoslav countries.
    Description: Historični seminar 14 prihaja v nenavadnem času, ko se svet spreminja pred našimi očmi. Da bi bolje razumeli sedanjost, je treba (na novo) ovrednotiti tudi preteklost in sedem zanimivih člankov domačih in tujih raziskovalcev, ki so bili najprej predstavljeni v ciklu predavanj Historični seminar na ZRC SAZU, zgodovino prikazuje v novi luči. Cirila Toplak se je posvetila naravovercem, zanimivi marginalni skupnosti na območju zahodne Slovenije, ki izkazuje predkrščanske in predmoderne kulturne prvine. Tomaž Ivešić je pisal o zaostrovanju nacionalnega vprašanja v Jugoslaviji v začetku sedemdesetih let, Aleksander Takovski pa o arhetipskih junakih in zlobnežih v Sloveniji, Hrvaški, Makedoniji in Srbiji.

    Description: The volume Historični seminar 13 ('Historical Seminar 13') offers a selection of articles that have been “filtered” through the cycle of lectures over the past two years. These articles were written by ten researchers from Slovenia, Austria, Croatia, and Germany. Historični seminar 13 continues to examine its origin in the humanities by looking at history and describing the past, with perspectives that are also directed toward other disciplines: geography, comparative literature, ethnomusicology, and cultural anthropology. However, it always maintains a critical distance, which is emphasized in various ways because many of the articles question previous assumptions of past studies and their subjective points of departure. In this manner, this volume makes an important contribution to critical thought about scholarship in general and about the future tasks of the humanities and the social sciences. At the same time, it adds an increasingly current ethical touch to much of its material. Historični seminar 13 is freely available online.
    Description: Historični seminar 13 prinaša izbor devetih razprav, ki jih je prispevalo deset slovenskih, avstrijskih, hrvaških in nemških strokovnjakov. V interdisciplinarnem prepletu humanističnih in družboslovnih ved izstopajo različni pogledi na zgodovino, v motrenje tega, kar je bilo, s pogledi, usmerjenimi tudi v geografijo, komparativistiko, etnomuzikologijo, kulturno antropologijo. A nikakor ne brez kritične distance, ki je v pričujoči monografiji na različne načine še posebej poudarjena, saj številni članki preizprašujejo predpostavke do sedaj že opravljenih raziskav in nujno subjektivna izhodišča, ki posameznike vodijo pri njihovih ugotovitvah (in jih seveda najdemo povsod, le da so v humanističnih vedah morda še bolj na očeh). Na ta način Historični seminar 13 lahko pomembno prispeva h kritični misli o znanosti ter o prihodnjih nalogah humanistike in družboslovja, obenem pa marsikateri vsebini dodaja tudi vse bolj aktualno etično noto. Monografija, ki jo bo v roke z veseljem vzel marsikateri bralec, je prosto dostopna tudi na spletu.

    Description: Monografija obravnava vse arheološke najdbe tega najdišča (kamnite in koščene izdelke, ognjišča in z njimi povezane obognjiščne dejavnosti in posamične kostne najdbe, ki so bile predmet manipulacij paleolitskih obiskovalcev Divjih bab I), vse s pomočjo raziskovalnih tehnik, ki doslej niso bile uporabljene pri tovrstnih raziskavah v Sloveniji. Avtorji so po njihovi zaslugi prišli od prvotnih predvidevanj do nekaterih nepričakovanih dobro argumentiranih spoznanj na področju slabo poznanega duhovnega sveta neandertalcev – evropskih praprebivalcev.

    Description: “The Disappearing Tombstone and Other Stories from Emona” is a collection of ten stories about real people, who once lived in Emona or the surrounding countryside. These stories shed light on the everyday lives and often highly unusual fates of these people. The eleventh story reveals why the Romans believed that Emona had been founded by Jason and his Argonauts. The myth would lead later historians to believe that Emona was older than Rome.The stories are based on the inscriptions from Roman funerary and other monuments, which are kept the lapidarium of the National Museum of Slovenia and in the City Museum of Ljubljana (MGML). The booklet is partly a result of the EAGLE project (“Europeana Network of Ancient Greek and Latin Epigraphy”) and partly of the programme “Archaeological Investigations” of the Institute of Archaeology ZRC SAZU.
    Description: Zgodbe so nastale na osnovi rimskih spomenikov z napisi, ki jih hranita Narodni muzej Slovenije in Muzej in galerije mesta Ljubljane. Rimski napisi Emone in širše okolice so namreč zelo zanimiv vir podatkov o življenju v Emoni in nam na neposreden način razkrivajo različne plati vsakdanjika emonskih prebivalcev.Knjižica v desetih kratkih zgodbah oriše zanimive in nenavadne usode nekaterih posameznikov, ki so resnično živeli v Emoni ali na njenem podeželju, v enajsti pa pojasni, zakaj so v antiki in še dolgo pozneje menili, da so Emono zgradili Jazon in njegovi argonavti.

    Description: In the first part of the Divje babe I monograph, data from the field of the natural sciences is presented, analysed and interpreted. This is primarily stratigraphic, sedimentological and chronological data and data on the remains of flora and fauna. The latter includes detailed analysis of charcoal from a number of hearths and the remains small and large mammals, with a stress on cave bear. The series of absolute ESR datings and the climatogram of the site should be highlighted in particular, which shows the course of temperature and humidity by layers in the chronozone of the Early and Middle Würm or oxygen isotope stages OIS 5 and OIS 3. The remains of flora and fauna from OIS 3 in particular are analysed, which enables new insight into palaeo-environmental and climatic conditions of this poorly known chronological segment in Slovenia and neighbouring regions. Archaeological finds, including Mousterian bone artefacts, will be presented in the planned second part of the monograph.

    Description: The region of Ptuj lies on one of the central traffic axes within the broader margins of the Eastern Alps, and already in the distant past represented an important settlement centre. This monograph incorporates the knowledge hitherto gained abouth settlement history, from the Eneolithic to the Early Middle Ages in the eastern area of Ptuj, in Rabelčja vas. The emphasis is on the Roman Period, when the eastern district of the Roman town of Poetovio was beginning to spread here.Within the area of Rabelčja vas, which comprises nearly one-third of the Roman town of Poetovio, over a period of two centuries more than 160 discoveries and researches have taken place. During the past four decades, extensive rescue excavations have been carried out here, which have revealed numerous prehistorical remains, and also the eastern, crafts quarter of the ancient town, together with the main road and extensive burial sites.
    Description: Na območju Rabelčje vasi, ki zajema slabo tretjino rimskega mesta Petoviona, je bilo v dveh stoletjih več kot 160 arheoloških odkritij in raziskav. V zadnjih štirih desetletjih so tu potekala obsežna zaščitna raziskovanja, ki so razkrila številne prazgodovinske ostanke ter vzhodno, obrtniško četrt antičnega mesta z glavno cesto in razsežnimi grobišči.

    Description: The most topical Middle Paleolithic site in Slovenia is presented in full and discussed in detail in this series. The Divje Babe I cave site became famous for the archaeological discovery of what current investigations indicate could be the oldest flute, made of the bone of a cave bear, yet discovered. The principal part of the compilation is dedicated to a typological, technological, acoustic and musicological discussion of the remarkable find. Individual chapters present the stratigraphy, chronology, fauna and flora from the site, in addition to the Paleolithic material finds (however, only up to the layer including the bone flute). The book incorporates the first abridged and summarized determinations from the current archaeological excavations, which are not yet concluded. In addition to the editor, who is also the author and coauthor of the majority of chapters, the following individuals also provided contributions to the series: G. Bastiani, M. Culiberg, J. Dirjec, B. Kavur, B. Kryštufek, T.-L. Ku, D. Kunej, D. E. Nelson, M. Omrzel-Terlep and A. Šercelj.
    Description: V zborniku je celovito predstavljeno in obdelano trenutno najbolj aktualno srednjepaleolitsko najdišče v Sloveniji. Jamsko najdišče Divje babe I je postalo znano zaradi arheološke najdbe, za katero dosedanje raziskave kažejo, da bi lahko bila najstarejša piščal, izdelana iz kosti jamskega medveda. Osrednji del zbornika je posvečen prav tipološki, tehnološki, akustični in muzikološki obdelavi znamenite najdbe. V posameznih poglavjih je predstavljena še stratigrafija, kronologija, favna in flora najdišča ter paleolitske najdbe, vendar le do vključno plasti, v kateri je bila najdena koščena piščal. V knjigi so prvič strnjene in povzete ugotovitve dosedanjih arheoloških izkopavanj, ki pa seveda še niso zaključena.     Description: Monografija prinaša celovit opis razvoja steklarstva na slovenskih tleh od prazgodovine do 5. stoletja. V prvem delu predstavlja tipološko in kronološko ovrednotenje rimskodobnega steklenega gradiva z območja današnje Slovenije, v drugem delu pa obravnava dokaze o lokalni proizvodnji stekla v rimski dobi pri nas. Uvodoma je razložena uporabljena terminologija in steklarske tehnike, ki so jih poznali rimski steklarji ter njihov kronološki okvir. Stekleno gradivo je obravnavano v treh večjih skupinah glede na tehniko izdelave: steklo izdelano v kalupu, steklo pihano v kalup in prosto pihano steklo. Deljeno je v deset skupin glede na namen in uporabo in nato v posamezne različice, opredeljene po posebnostih in raznolikosti izdelave. Vsaka različica je kronološko opredeljena glede na zaključene kronološke celote ali (kjer to ni bilo mogoče) glede na primerjave z gradivom izven Slovenije.

    Description: Monograph The Slovenian Literary Science from Trubar to World War II is the lifework of Darko Dolinar, an expert in history and methodology of the Slovenian literary science. His study represents, for the first time in our country in the form of a scientific synthesis, the development of professional and scientific treatment of literature from its beginnings during the Reformation through Baroque and Enlightenment polyhistoricism and the beginnings of national literary history in the 19th century to the establishment of literary science as a basic university discipline in 1919 and the further development of its various subdisciplines, including comparative literature, all up to the outbreak of World War II. Dolinar's monograph is an attempt to eliminate a long-standing gap in Slovenian literary science, since Slovene literary scholars, researchers, teachers, and students of literature need a firm grounding on the historical knowledge of the concepts, significance, development, and previous crises of the discipline, as well, for a more critical response.
    Description: Monografija Slovenska literarna veda od Trubarja do druge svetovne vojne je življenjsko delo Darka Dolinarja, strokovnjaka za zgodovino in metodologijo literarne vede na Slovenskem. Njegova knjiga prvič pri nas v obliki znanstvene sinteze predstavlja razvoj strokovnega in znanstvenega obravnavanja literature od zametkov v obdobju reformacije prek baročnega in razsvetljenskega polihistorstva ter začetkov nacionalne literarne zgodovine v 19. stoletju do vzpostavitve literarne vede kot temeljne univerzitetne discipline leta 1919 in nadaljnjega razvoja njenih različnih usmeritev, med njimi tudi primerjalne književnosti, vse do začetka druge svetovne vojne. Dolinarjevo delo odpravlja dolgoletno vrzel v slovenski literarni vedi, ki je sicer ne bi in še dolgo ne bo zapolnil nihče drug. Slovenski literarni znanstveniki, raziskovalci, učitelji in študenti književnosti v dobi nemara najhujše krize humanistike za bolj premišljen in prodoren odziv nanjo potrebujejo trdne opore v historični vednosti o zasnovah, pomenu in razvojnih premikih ter predhodnih krizah svoje discipline. Dolinarjeve knjiga tako zaledje vsekakor zagotavlja.

    Description: The monograph Drobci ledenodobnega okolja (“Fragments of Ice Age environments”) presents a compilation of seventeen chapters in which experts from different scientific fields discuss specific topics related to the Ice Age in Europe. Ten of them are devoted to the presentation, analysis and interpretation of palaeontological data concerning various large mammal species ranging from mastodon and mammoth to the cave hyena, ibex, cave lion and bears, with the emphasis being placed on the cave bear. Several chapters address the topic of Last Glacial climatic conditions in the Southeastern Alps by studying fossil micromammal and palaeobotanical remains as well as geoarchaeologiocal data. A special article is devoted to a comprehensive review of previous analysis of the bone flute from Divje babe I, but includes also new musicological research findings on the extraordinary technical capabilities of this oldest musical instrument. The concluding chapter presents a study of old manuscripts and printed sources, providing some interesting insights into the discovery of one of the most significant palaeontological sites in Slovenia - the cave of Mokriška jama.The monograph is dedicated to the anniversary of the prominent researcher of the Slovenian Palaeolithic - Ivan Turk. His work, main achievements and selected bibliography are briefly presented in the introductory chapter.

    Description: The monograph on István Széchenyi presents the Slovenian territory with a story about an extremely important Hungarian politician, economist, and national awakener. As in other nations, it was also in Hungary that the long nineteenth century brought to the fore prominent individuals who contributed towards the development of modern national consciousness. Although the Slovenes are probably more familiar with the name of the Hungarian politician Lajos Kossuth, István Széchenyi figured as an equally prominent driver of Hungarian national development. Just how significant his influence was on Hungarian history was demonstrated by none other than Kossuth, his political opponent, who described him as the “Greatest Hungarian”. The volume at hand was compiled by four historians, three Slovenian and one Hungarian. Its central part comprises chapters on Széchenyi’s life, political career, and economic activities, whereas the introductory chapter on the Széchenyi noble family and its estates in the Slovenian territory and the last chapter on relations between the Hungarians and Emperor Franz Joseph embed the monograph within a broader time-span, thus enabling a better understanding of István Széchenyi’s endeavours and his lasting impact on Hungarian history.
    Description: Monografija v slovenski prostor prinaša zgodbo o izjemno pomembnem madžarskem politiku, gospodarstveniku in narodnem buditelju. Podobno kot pri drugih narodih je dolgo 19. stoletje tudi pri Madžarih na dan naplavilo pomembne posameznike, ki so pripomogli k razvoju moderne nacionalne zavesti. Medtem ko je verjetno med Slovenci bolj poznano ime madžarskega politika Lajosa Kossutha, je bil prav tako pomembna gonilna sila madžarskega nacionalnega razvoja prav István Széchenyi. Kako pomemben je bil njegov vpliv na madžarsko zgodovino dokazujejo prav besede Kossutha, ki je svojega političnega nasprotnika Széchenyija opisal kot »največjega Madžara«. Pri pričujoči monografiji so sodelovali štirje zgodovinarji, trije slovenski in eden madžarski. Osrednji del knjige tvorita poglavji o Széchenyijevi življenjski poti, politični karieri in gospodarskemu delovanju. Tako uvodno poglavje o plemiški rodbini Széchenyi in njihovih posestih na Slovenskem, kot tudi zadnje poglavje o odnosu med Madžari in cesarjem Francem Jožefom pa monografijo postavljata v daljši časovni lok ter tako omogočata boljše razumevanje delovanja in daljnosežnega vpliva Istvána Széchenyija na madžarsko zgodovino.

Lilijana Žnidaršič Golec na podlagi pričevanj župljanov župnije Ig iz leta 1782 osvetljuje tedanjo cerkveno vernost, odnose med ljudmi in problematiko t. i. poznega janzenizma. Irena Selišnik piše o novih političnih praksah na prelomu iz 19. v 20. stoletje, za katere je značilen pojav množičnih političnih strank. Prispevek Gentiane Kera analizira povezavo med porokami, vodenjem gospodinjstev in demografskimi težavami, ki so vplivale na nastanek in strukturo gospodinjstev v Tirani. Mojca Žagar Karer analizira razlike med terminološkimi slovarji, leksikoni in enciklopedijami. Anja Benko pregledno predstavi razvoj in stanje slovenske narečne leksikografije ter predlaga model za izdelavo narečnega slikovnega slovarja. Silvo Torkar pa piše o slovenskih zemljepisnih imenih, ki so tvorjena iz slovanskih antroponimov.

    Description: Ormož ranks among the most important archaeological sites in Slovenia. The fortified settlement from the Late Bronze and Early Iron Age extended over the area where the town stands today. It developed on a high-lying terrace on the left bank of the river Drava, which forms a broad bend right at the foothills. This site was intentionally selected, since towards the river it was protected by a steep slope, and to the east and west by relatively deep natural dykes. In the present monograph a survey is given of the results of the excavations which were carried out in Ormož during the period from 1974 to 1981.
    Description: Ormož sodi med najpomembnejša arheološka najdišča v Sloveniji. Utrjeno naselje iz pozne bronaste in starejše železne dobe se je raztezalo na območju, kjer stoji danes mesto. Zraslo je na visoki terasi na levem bregu Drave, ki dela prav pod njegovim vznožjem širok zavoj. Prostor je bil premišljeno izbran, saj ga je proti reki varovala strma ježa, na vzhodu in zahodu pa razmeroma globoka naravna jarka. V pričujoči monografiji so predstavljeni rezultati izkopavanj, ki so v Ormožu potekala med letoma 1974 in 1981: fortifikacijski sistemi, predvsem mogočen okop, ki je na severni strani varoval naselje ter objekti v notranjosti (ognjišča, kurišča, vodnjake in shrambne jame, okoli katerih se je v prazgodovini odvijalo življenje).

    Description: This monograph (‘Kozenn's school atlas as a milestone in education') was released on the 150th anniversary of the publication of the first secondary-school atlas by Blasius Kozenn (a.k.a. Blaž Kocen). He grew up in a Slovenian farming family near Ponikva, Lower Styria. While working as a teacher, he realized he needed more new teaching aids and he advocated more modern methods of teaching. His cooperation with the publisher Eduard Hölzel was of key importance. Kozenn’s crowning accomplishment was the first successful school atlas in the Austrian Empire, published in 1861. It contained twenty-seven maps, of which three were on double pages, and was published in German, Hungarian, Czech, and Polish. The author followed the example of the leading German atlases of that time, but he thoroughly adapted it to local conditions, introduced several important new features, and ensured that its reprints and other atlases that used his as a model were constantly technically, artistically, and conceptually improved. Kozenn’s secondary-school atlas soon became the leading one in the German-speaking part of the empire, whereas in the Czech, Polish, and Hungarian schools his “small” atlases, which were more limited in their coverage and cheaper, were initially more successful. After Kozenn’s death, the publisher decided to maintain his well-established brand, and so even 150 years since its first publication the Kozenn-Atlas is still a prominent name.
    Description: Knjiga je nastala ob 150-letnici izida prvega Kocenovega srednješolskega atlasa, ki je pustil globoke sledi v kartografiji in didaktiki geografskega pouka. Z nedvomnim talentom in predvsem izredno delavnostjo obdarjeni Blaž Kocen je odraščal v slovenski kmečki družini v bližini Ponikve na južnem Štajerskem. Krona njegovega dela je bil prvi uspešni šolski atlas v avstrijskem cesarstvu, ki je izšel leta 1861, hkrati v nemščini, madžarščini, češčini in poljščini. V njem je Kocen skušal združiti najboljše odlike drugih takratnih atlasov, predvsem pa si je prizadeval, da bi bil izdelek za dijake čim bolj in čim dlje uporaben, nazoren in cenovno dostopen. Založba Hölzel ohranja uveljavljeno blagovno znamko in po 150 letih od prvega izida je Kozenn-Atlas še vedno ugledno ime šolskih atlasov tako v Avstriji kot po svetu.

    Description: The following results from excavations carried out in 1987 at Sermin near Koper are presented in the monograph: the extent of the settlement, the stratigraphy, the remains of Bronze Age houses and Roman levelling of the ground. Metal, glass and bone material finds, as well as Prehistoric and Roman pottery, are analyzed in detail. It was determined that settlement was of long duration, probably continuous from the Middle Neolithic to the middle of the 1st century AD. Due tot ehir abundance, material finds dating to the Middle and Late Bronze Ages as well as the Early Roman period are more striking. The settlement at Sermin was constantly situated in the middle of trade and cultural currents between Italy, the Balkans and the Mediterranean region. The material finds are also an indication of the significance of the settlement during the period of the earliest Romanization. Attesting the plentiful production of wine and amphorae along the Adriatic coast of Italy already from the middle of the 2nd centruy BC, the archaeological chapters are complemented by chemical and mineralogical research on the ceramics of the amphorae. The paleo-vegetational conditions in the coastal region of Koper are presented at the end. The development of settlement in the region of northwestern Istria from Prehistoric times to the Early Middle Ages is described in the supplement.
    Description: V knjigi so predstavljeni rezultati sondiranj v Serminu pri Kopru iz leta 1987: obseg poselitve najdišča, stratigrafija, ostanki bronastodobne hiše in rimskodobno izravnalno nasutje. Podrobno so analizirani kovinski, stekleni in koščeni predmeti ter prazgodovinska in rimska keramika. Ugotovljena je bila dolgotrajna, verjetno kontinuirana poseljenost od srednjega neolitika do sredine 1. stoletja po Kr. Po večjih količinah gradiva izstopajo srednja in pozna bronasta ter zgodnja rimska doba. Naselje v Serminu je bilo ves čas vpeto v trgovske in kulturne tokove med Italijo, Balkanom in sredozemskim prostorom. Gradivo kaže tudi na izjemen pomen naselbine v obdobju najzgodnejše romanizacije. Arheološka poglavja dopolnjujejo kemične in mineraloške raziskave keramike amfor, ki dokazujejo močno proizvodnjo vina in amfor na italijanski obali Jadranskega morja že sredi 2. stoletja pr. Kr. Na koncu so predstavljene paleovegetacijske razmere v Koprskem primorju. V dodatku je še orisan razvoj poselitve na ozemlju severozahodne Istre od prazgodovine do zgodnjega srednjega veka.

Kemperl piše o Francu Greinu st., mojstru sakralnega stavbarstva na Celjskem. P. Farinelli na primeru Tabucchijeve pripovedi I pomeriggi del sabato osvetljuje značilnosti fantastičnega v delih italijanskih avtorjev 20. stoletja. J. Habjan s pomočjo zgodb o Sherlocku Holmesu razlaga, zakaj je Moretti molčal o razlogih sodobnikov za uvrstitev t. i. detektivke s ključi v literarni kanon. M. Michelizza pokaže, katere značilnosti spleta vplivajo na jezik in jezikoslovje, T. Novak in B. Dolenc pa obravnavata problematiko prepoznavanja in zdravljenja bipolarne motnje.

    Description: In his treatise, the author shows that from the point of view of the history of linguistics and language use the transition from the Protestant to the Catholic period was not as sharp as one could conclude on the basis of some facts of cultural history. For a variety of reasons, the language tradition of Slovenian Protestant authors was preserved in the period in question. The author first indicates the directions the Slovenian language took in the Catholic period. The central part of the study is dedicated to the analysis of the grammars written in this period. The last part contains a critical edition and analysis of all linguistic comments on the Slovenian language in the Catholic period.
    Description: V monografiji avtor pokaže, da prehod iz obdobja protestantizma v katoliško dobo z vidika zgodovine jezikoslovja in rabe jezike ni bil tako oster, kot bi lahko sodili na podlagi nekaterih kulturnozgodovinskih dejstev. Izročilo jezika slovenskih protestantskih piscev se je namreč iz različnih vzrokov ohranjalo tudi v obravnavani dobi. Monografija obsega več vsebinskih sklopov. Najprej preveri, kako se je nadaljevalo izročilo slovenskih protestantskih piscev in kakšna pota je ubiral slovenski jezik v katoliški dobi. Opredeli sociolingvistične in zvrstnostne značilnosti jezikovnega gradiva, ki ga ima na voljo raziskovalec tega obdobja, ter pokaže, kako so se jeziki rabili glede na družbene položaje. Pregleda tudi, kako so slovenščino rabili v šolstvu, cerkvi in začetkih gledališke dejavnosti. Osrednji del raziskave je namenjen pregledu slovnic, nastalih v tem obdobju. Zadnji del pa obsega kritično izdajo in analizo vseh jezikoslovnih zapisov o slovenščini v tej dobi.

    Description: The e-publication entitled Gradivo za topografijo Dolenjske, Posavja in Bele krajine v železni dobi ('Available evidence for the topography of the Dolenjska, Posavje and Bela krajina regions in the Iron Age', only in Slovenian) presents over six hundred sites in the three regions of south-eastern Slovenia that date from this distant period of the past. It is a database that upgrades the first register of Slovene archaeological heritage (Arheološka najdišča Slovenije), published in 1975 by the Institute of Archaeology at the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts. This register was created with the data then available in literature, while field surveys were only performed on select sites or areas. It was followed up by a project devoting to the archaeological topography of Slovenia (Arheološke topografije Slovenije), the main objective of which was to accurately map the already known sites, as well as to discover new ones. Of all the regions of Slovenia, only the updated topography of three regions was published, among them Bela krajina, which was an integral part of the Dolenjska community in the Early Iron Age.
    Description: V publikaciji je predstavljeno čez šeststo najdišč iz železne dobe, pomembnega obdobja naše najstarejše preteklosti. Podatkovna baza ima svojo osnovo v Arheoloških najdiščih Slovenije (1975). Nastala je na osnovi podatkov iz literature, medtem ko so bila terenska preverjanja opravljena le na nekaterih najdiščih oziroma območjih. Delo je skušal nadgraditi projekt Arheološke topografije Slovenije, katerega glavni namen je bilo natančno lociranje starih, že znanih najdišč, pa tudi odkrivanje novih. Žal so bile obdelane le tri regije, med njimi Bela krajina, ki je bila v starejši železni dobi sestavni del dolenjske skupnosti. Vrzel je zapolnil projekt Utrjena prazgodovinska naselja na Dolenjskem, ki ni bil usmerjen le k naseljem, ampak so bila s terenskimi pregledi dokumentirana tudi druga najdišča iz pozne bronaste in starejše železne dobe. Ker tehnologij daljinskega zaznavanja še ni bilo na razpolago, je bilo celotno območje pregledano s terenskimi obhodi.

    Description: Publishing medieval charters for Slovenian history is a long-term effort. The first four volumes were still published in the days of the pioneer of the project, Franc Kos (in the period 1902–1915), with the fifth book, published by his son Milko Kos, following somewhat later on. It was only in 2002 that France Baraga published, on the basis of the collected materials, the Central Catalogue of Medieval Charters of Dr. Božo Otorepec from the Milko Kos Historical Institute of ZRC SAZU, the sixth volume of medieval charters encompassing a relatively short period of ten years, 1246–1255. The volume appeared without an index of names, the publication of which has been postponed until today.This book therefore contains an accurate explanatory index of personal and place names, thus completing Baraga’s edition of 295 medieval charters.The book comes with a CD Gradivo za slovensko zgodovino v srednjem veku. 6/1 – Listine 1246–1255. 6/2 – Imensko kazalo [Materials for Slovenian Medieval History. 6/1 – Charters 1246 – 1255. 6/2 – Index of names] and both books in pdf-format.
    Description: Izdajanje srednjeveških listin za slovensko zgodovino je delo, ki nastaja na zelo dolg rok. Prve štiri knjige so bile izdane še za življenja začetnika projekta Franca Kosa (v obdobju 1902–1915), peta knjiga, ki jo je izdal njegov sin Milko Kos, pa je že nekoliko bolj oddaljena (1928). Šele leta 2002 je France Baraga na podlagi zbranega gradiva, Centralnega kataloga srednjeveških listin dr. Boža Otorepca z Zgodovinskega inštituta Milka Kosa ZRC SAZU, objavil šesti zvezek srednjeveških listin, ki zajema relativno kratko desetletno obdobje 1246–1255. Zvezek je izšel brez imenskega kazala, katerega izid se je zavlekel do sedaj.

    Description: The book discusses all five cholera epidemics that hit the central Slovenian area in 1836, 1849, 1855, 1866, and 1886. It is the first synthesis of cholera epidemics and the first presentation of the health conditions in the 19th-century Carniola.Largely drawing on original archival materials, the book also provides Slovenian historiography with new and original knowledge, and substantially places itself side by side other European and American historiographical research dealing with the phenomenon of cholera epidemics in health, social, cultural and political context.
    Description: Kolera je v 19. stoletju v Evropi veljala za najhujšo nalezljivo bolezen, saj se je v primerjavi z drugimi epidemičnimi boleznimi hitreje širila med prebivalstvom in povzročala nenadne in množične smrti. Zaradi podobnosti s predhodnico iz prejšnjih stoletij so kolero pogosto poimenovali za kugo 19. stoletja. Knjiga obravnava pet epidemij kolere, ki so osrednji slovenski prostor prizadele v letih 1836, 1849, 1855, 1866 in 1886. Vsebuje tudi poglavje o dogajanjih leta 1831, ko je bolezen prvič izbruhnila v Evropi, na Kranjskem pa so epidemijo aktivno pričakovali.

    Description: The micro-history of resistance and collaboration, as the subtitle could read of Gestrin’s study on the life in the villages at the base of Mt. Krim in 1941–1945, is the author’s attempt at reconstructing the most traumatic period in Slovenian history. Gestrin’s history of death and hope is not just another descriptive statistics of combat units, but rather a cross-section of a violent daily routine that divided former neighbors into members of the resistance and collaborators with the occupying forces. These are brought back to life in the central chapters of the book, also by revealing nearly every aspect of their existence: what kind of families they came from, what they did for a living, the extent to which were they (if at all) active in the Communist Party or a trade union organization before the war. To what extent were they (if at all) torn between work in the nearby Ljubljana and chores on their farms, how did they experience the occupation, why did they join the Partisan and MVAC units, respectively, and, finally, why were they forced or otherwise compelled to switch sides and what implications did that have for their families…
    Description: Mikrozgodovina upora in kolaboracije, kot bi lahko podnaslovili Gestrinovo študiju o življenju v podkrimskih vaseh v času med 1941 in 1945 je avtorjev poskus rekonstrukcije najbolj travmatičnega obdobja slovenske zgodovine. Gestrinova zgodovina smrti in upanja ni samo še en deskriptivni opis vojskujočih se enot, temveč prerez nasilnega vsakdana, ki je nekdanje sosede razdelil na odpornike in sodelavce okupatorjev.     Description: Študija osvetljuje historični vidik judovske navzočnosti v prekmurskem (in slovenskem) prostoru od poznega srednjega veka do danes, oblikovanje modernega antisemitizma konec 19. stoletja, predvsem pa dolgoročne posledice deportacij prekmurskih Judov. Avtor razblini nekatere stereotipne predstave o judovski ekskluzivni gospodarski dejavnosti in izriše zanimivo topografijo judovskega družabnega in kulturnega življenja na območju Prekmurja. Bolj kot na samo fizično uničenje judovske skupnosti zaradi deportacij, ropanj in pobojev se osredotoča na posledice uničenja nekdanje gospodarske in družbene elite.

    Description: The Ljubljanica River with its tributaries has witnessed no less than a quarter of a century of organised underwater research. The latter has shown that the archaeological complex there unquestionably ranks among the most interesting ones in Slovenia with the finds from the beds and banks of the waterways speaking of nearby settlements, cemeteries, forts, control points or places of cult.These, together with various types of river vessels and other traces of water exploitation, improve in many ways the knowledge of the phenomenon that is the Ljubljansko barje as a cultural landscape as well as its specific dynamics closely related to the natural changes in the environment from the early periods of the prehistory onwards.
    Description: Organizirane podvodne raziskave barjanskega dela reke Ljubljanice s pritoki so pokazale, da gre za nesporno enega najzanimivejših arheoloških kompleksov pri nas. Najdbe iz rečnih strug in bregov pričajo o bližnjih naselbinah, grobiščih, utrdbah, nadzornih točkah ali kultnih mestih ter skupaj s plovili in drugimi sledovi izrabe vodnega prostora dopolnjujejo poznavanje fenomena Ljubljanskega barja kot kulturne krajine in njegove dinamike, ki se je od starejših obdobij prazgodovine naprej tesno prepletala z naravnimi spremembami okolja.

    Description: Within the framework of the basic research project The Župna cerkev Cemetery n Kranj, intended for the publication and research of materials from archaeological excavations of the eponymous burial ground, digital primary forms of archival sources are presented.[In Slovenian only] The first issue presents documentation of the 1953 excavation. The second one brings the files of graves, excavated in 1953, kept in The National Museum of Slovenia. The documentation of the 1964 to 1966 excavation is presented in the third book. In the fourth book is on field documentation of 1969 to 1973 excavation. Milan Sagadin, the excavator of the 1984 campaign, presents the field diary in the fifth issue. The anthropological diaries of the 1964 to 1973 excavations by Tone Pogačnik and Tatjana Tomazzo Ravnik are presented in the sixth book.
    Description: V okviru temeljnega raziskovalnega projekta Grobišče Župna cerkev v Kranju, ki je namenjen objavi in raziskavam gradiva iz arheoloških izkopavanj istoimenskega grobišča, v digitalni obliki predstavljamo primarne arhivske vire.V prvem zvezku predstavljamo grobišče, terenske dnevnike, katalog grobov in dnevnik meritev z izkopavanj leta 1953.V pričujoči knjigi pa objavljamo drugi del arhivskega gradiva iz arheoloških izkopavanj najdišča Župna cerkev v Kranju iz leta 1953. V obeh knjigah skupaj je torej predstavljena vsa doslej znana pisna in risarska dokumentacija teh izkopavanj.V tem zvezku smo želeli izkoristiti prednost digitalne knjige. Najprej, digitalna knjiga omogoča spreminjanje formata znotraj istega zvezka. Predmet objave je torej neke vrste digitalni faksimile kartotečnih kartic, saj je vsaka kartica objavljena v formatu izvirnika. Ker gre za dve vrsti kartic, se torej format spreminja.

    Description: Most na Soči is an archaeological site of key importance in the Posočje region and also one that witnessed most extensive investigations. Remains of its rich distant past have been coming to light over the last century and a half, either as chance finds or through archaeological excavations of the settlement from the Bronze, Iron and Roman Ages, as well as the associated cemeteries.This book presents the recent investigations on the left bank of the Idrijca, where a vast Iron Age cemetery has been known since the end of the 19th century. At its northern edge, a total of 88 graves were excavated by the Tolminski muzej in 2000–2016, when three locations were investigated: Pucarjev rob, Repelc and Lipičarjev vrt. Most of the graves date to the Iron Age, a dozen to the Roman period and one to the Early Middle Ages. In their immediate vicinity, a contemporary cremation pit and a stone drywall were discovered, under the graves also habitation remains from the Late Bronze Age.

    Description: In the collected papers the results of the research on hilltop settlement Spaha above Brezovica pri Predgradu are introduced. The site was excavated by Greta Hirschbäck-Merhar during the years 1979 and 1984. Spaha was settled in the period of Sava group, Lasinja culture, horizon of pottery with furrowed incisions, and probably also in the period of Urnfield culture. In the 16th century on the top of Spaha a watchtower was erected, from which the local community was being informed about the arrivals of plundering hordes of Turks. The reasons for the settling the top of the hill are searched in the appearance of first copper ore prospectors in this part of Europe and in the vicinity of deposits of raw material used for querns which were most probably used by agriculture communities of nearby Bela krajina. In the monograph are presented the relative and absolute chronologies of the Neolithic and earlier Eneolithic period of continental Slovenia.

Če poznamo kuhinjske postopke, razumemo rezultat njihovega delovanja. Knjiga gradi model zgodnjesrednjeveške kuhinjske kulture z analizo jezikovnih in etnoloških virov, jih sooča z arheološkimi viri in preizkuša z arheologijo poskusov. Ker so izhodišče slovanski jeziki, oblikuje podobo kuhinje prvenstveno pri Starih Slovanih. Rezultat je priročniški nabor postopkovnih povezav in predmetnih sestavov, ki dajejo razlage posameznih arheoloških sestavin kuhinjske kulture. Sestavljati jih je mogoče v pojasnila arheološkim najdbam in predstavljen je en tak vzorčni primer.

    Description: The book Medieval Archaeology of Bled Island is presenting the results of a state-of-the-art archaeological analysis of data from archaeological excavations of the 1962 and 1964.
    Description: Pričujoča knjiga je nastala z namenom, da odgovori na vprašanje: ali je v arheoloških virih izpričano predkrščansko svetišče na Blejskem otoku? Blejski otok je imel poseben pomen za vsako lokalno skupnost, ki je kadarkoli živela ob Blejskem jezeru. Pisanje J. V. Valvasorja in A. T. Linharta je sloves otoka poneslo širše, dokončno pa ga je usidral v kulturno zavest Slovencev France Prešeren, ki je na otok v pesmi Krst pri Savici postavil Živin hram. Arheologija, kot vsaka znanost, zahteva kompleksen pristop. V knjigi je predstavljena arheološka analiza dokumentacije izkopavanj, ki so bila na Blejskem otoku med letoma 1962 in 1965. Takrat je pod vodstvom Vinka Šribarja ekipa Narodnega muzeja Slovenije raziskali grobišče in ostanke cerkvenih zidov iz srednjega veka. Najdišče je eno od številnih v blejski mikro-regiji, a je kot kraj – otok na jezeru – posebnost med najdišči v Sloveniji.

    Description: The archaeological excavations of the Župna cerkev cemetery in Kranj began in 1953 and were completed in 2013. The explored cemetery consists of 2,936 graves and the Museum of Gorenjska (Gorenjski muzej) in Kranj has inventoried 3,263 items from this cemetery.The purpose of the monograph is the publication of the graves excavated between 1964 and 1970 by Andrej Valič, curator at the Museum of Gorenjska. Data are drawn from all available sources (field documentation, artefacts, photographs, inventory books, analysis of skeletons, etc.).The plan of the graves, which took shape while studying the material, for the first time combines all the previously excavated graves of the Župna cerkev cemetery in Kranj. Because of the size of the cemetery and the high density of burials in some parts, the quadrants are shown by individual pages instead of the usual one-piece insert.The first part of the book is a study on the nature of the data presented, while the catalogue in addition to the usual data contains also comments on all potential oddities and inconsistencies.
    Description: Arheološka izkopavanja grobišča Župna cerkev v Kranju so se začela leta 1953 in so z manjšmi in večjimi razmiki potekala do leta 2013. Raziskano grobišče tako po trenutnih podatkih obsega 2.936 grobov, Gorenjski muzej v Kranju pa ima inventariziranih 3.263 predmetov iz tega grobišča. Namen monografije je objava grobov, ki jih je Andrej Valič, kustos Gorenjskega muzeja Kranj, izkopal med letoma 1964 in 1970. Podatke črpa iz vseh dosegljivih virov (terenska dokumentacija, predmeti, fototeka, inventarna knjiga, kasnejši zaznamki izkopavalca, analize okostij ipd). Načrt grobov, ki je nastajal ob študiju gradiva, prvič združuje vse doslej izkopane grobove na grobišču Župna cerkev v Kranju. Zaradi obsežnosti grobišča in velike gostote pokopov na nekaterih delih je namesto običajne enodelne priloge prikazan po posameznih kvadrantih. Začetni del knjige je spremna študija o naravi predstavljenih podatkov, prav tako pa so v kataloškem delu sprotni komentarji vseh morebitnih nenavadnosti in neskladnosti.

    Description: Pristava in Bled ist vielleicht die interessanteste Fundstelle im Ostalpenraum. Sie umfasst die gegenseitig stratigraphisch verflochtene Siedlung und das Gräberfeld. Im Ort begegneten sich die alteingesessenen Walchen und die neuangekommenen Slawen, die in den frühmittelalterlichen Bewohnern von Bled zusammenwuchsen. Diese doppelten Wurzeln sind in Gegenständen, Bestattungsarten und Hausformen ersichtlich. Das Buch stellt alle seit 1943 ausgegrabenen Siedlungsfunde vor und rekonstruiert slawische Brandgräber des 7. Jahrhunderts. Es entwickelt neue Methoden der taphonomischen Analyse, zeigt Gebäudereste und führt augenblicklich die größte Sammlung der frühmittelalterlichen Keramik in Slowenien vor.

    Description: Sixty-year excavation (1953 to 2013) of Župna Cerkev Cemetery in Kranj unearthed almost 3000 graves. The monograph introduces 1048 graves found between 1972 and 2010. The excavations were initially led by Andrej Valič, the curator of the Gorenjski muzej (1972 and 73, 862 graves). Milan Sagadin from ZVKD Kranj continued the dig from 1984 to 2001 (163 graves), followed by Draško Josipovič (Megalan Skupina, d. o. o., 2003 to 2010), who excavated 23 more graves. An extensive chapter presents the artefacts of Župna Cerkev Cemetery with no data about their location.The varied documentation, which has changed over the years, is the basis for the publication of all available data on the graves and artefacts kept by the Gorenjski muzej in Kranj. The introduction, a study on the nature of the data, comments on possible inconsistencies between the various types of documentation. Primarily it deals with the question of reliability of individual grave good assemblages, which is the basis for all further analysis.The discussed group of graves originates mainly from the northern exterior of the church and from the interior of the present-day church, that is, from the place where graves intertwined with the remains of older church and non-church buildings. Their building development and changing usability will be impossible to explain without good knowledge of the cemetery.
    Description: Šestdesetletna izkopavanja (od 1953 do 2013) grobišča Župna cerkev v Kranju so odkrila skoraj 3000 grobov. V pričujoči monografiji je predstavljenih 1048 grobov, ki so jih našli med letoma 1972 in 2010. Izkopavanja je najprej (1972 in 1973, 862 grobov) vodil kustos Gorenjskega muzeja Andrej Valič, nato Milan Sagadin z ZVKD Kranj (od 1984 do 2001, 163 grobov), nazadnje pa Draško Josipovič (Magelan Skupina, d. o. o., od 2003 do 2010, 23 grobov). Obsežno poglavje predstavljajo vsi tisti predmeti z grobišča Kranj – Župna cerkev, ki nimajo podatkov o mestu najdbe.Pestra dokumentacija, ki se je z leti spreminjala, je osnova za objavo vseh dosegljivih podatkov o grobovih in predmetih, ki jih hrani Gorenjski muzej v Kranju. Uvodni del obsega študijo o naravi podatkov in opozorila na morebitne neskladnosti med različnimi tipi dokumentacije. Prvenstveno se ukvarja z vprašanjem zanesljivosti grobnih celot, kar je podlaga za vse nadaljnje analize.

    Description: Cvinger near Vir pri Stični is considered one of the most important Iron Age center in the southeastern alpine region. Its importance reflects not only in the size and location in the area, but also in the economic power of the population, which can be seen from the rich artefacts found at Stična necropolises. Until now it was published about Stična a number of scientific papers, articles and monographs, mostly dealing with finds from the graves. They were also presented the results of settlement excavations with international participation in the years 1967 to 1974, but without a comprehensive and in-depth analysis of the pottery. It is now dedicated to this book, divided into three parts.The first part provides a revision of settlement stratigraphic and chronological sequence, which allows connection between the often elusive settlement and fortification phases and their mostly ceramic material.The second part of the core of the debate, it is an analytical study of ceramics (method of manufacture, shape, decoration), concludes, however, with a view to the cultural development of the village and chronological frame, as it outlines the ceramic material.The third part is the catalogue of a representative sample of the presented finds.22 appendices show cross sections of the tranches with complexes of finds marked.

    Description: Important anniversaries of prominent historians have become traditional opportunities for the gift to the celebrator in the form of scientific contributions from his colleagues and the colleagues who have worked with him fruitfully or are still doing so. Marušičev zbornik is a tribute to one of the leading historians of the Slovene region in contact with its western neighbors, historian prof. Branko Marušič at the age of 80. He has created a very important oeuvre, while outlining basic research directions, which some have continued to gain. One of the prominent results of this “scientific transfer” is the present scientific monograph, with the highly significant subtitle, Zgodovinopisec zahodnega roba (The Historian of West Edge). In a single volume, it represents the contribution of different generations of historians to new insights into the history of coastal space, especially that of the borderland, which throughout history has encountered coexistence with “the other.” Different historical sources and their careful analyzes and interpretations, which the authors place in different time contexts, contribute to new or original scientific knowledge. The monograph is actual and important for the development of historiography, also because of the development of Slovenian scientific terminology.

Gorazd Bajc, postajajo pomembni jubileji vidnih zgodovinarjev že tradicionalne priložnosti poklona slavljencu v obliki znanstvenih prispevkov kolegov in kolegic, ki so z njim plodno sodelovali oziroma to še vedno počnejo. Marušičev zbornik je poklon enemu izmed vodilnih preučevalcev zgodovine slovenskega prostora v stiku z zahodnimi sosedi, zgodovinarju prof. dr. Branku Marušiču ob njegovi 80-letnici. Ustvaril je zelo pomemben opus, obenem pa začrtal temeljne raziskovalne usmeritve, ki so jih nekateri s pridom nadaljevali. Eden izmed vidnih rezultatov tega »znanstvenega prenosa« je pričujoča znanstvena monografija z zelo pomenljivim podnaslovom Zgodovinopisec zahodnega roba. Na enem samem mestu namreč predstavlja doprinos različnih generacij zgodovinarjev k novim spoznanjem o zgodovini primorskega prostora, posebej tistega mejnega, ki se je skozi zgodovino ves čas srečeval s sobivanjem z »drugim«. Različni zgodovinski viri in njihove pozorne analize ter interpretacije, ki jih avtorji umeščajo v različne časovne kontekste, prispevajo k novim oziroma izvirnim znanstvenim spoznanjem.

    Description: The Land of Shadows was first conceived as a complementary resource for History classes in Slovenian high schools. It served to complement to the patchy Holocaust teaching resources. It consists of two parts: the first part features a historical overview of anti-Semitism and eventually the Holocaust in Europe, which is followed by an account of the situation in Slovenia. The authors relied on the life-story of Mrs Erika Fürst, one of the Holocaust survivors from Prekmurje, Slovenia. In creating a compelling and touching narrative, the authors used visual material from the archives and from various publications depicting the period and the problematic, notably excerpts from two graphic novels: Art Speigelman’s Maus, Jason Lutes’ Berlin.
    Description: Dežela senc je berilo za uporabo pri pouku zgodovine v slovenskih osnovnih in tudi srednjih šolah. V prvem delu so predstavljene zgodovinske razmere, ki so vodile do antisemitizma in holokavsta v Evropi, v drugem pa so podrobneje predstavljene slovenske razmere. Podrobneje je opisana izkušnja preživele interniranke Erike Fürst, posebna pozornost pa je namenjena izboru slikovnega gradiva, med katerim so tudi odlomki iz dveh grafičnih novel: Maus Arta Speigelmana in Berlin (knjiga 1 in 2) Jasona Lutesa. Prva, nedopolnjena izdaja je izšla leta 2012, tudi v angleščini.

    Description: Immigration of Slovenians to other areas of the former Yugoslavia and their organization of ethnic societies there is a subject of research that became interesting for researchers in the field of international migration studies only after the disintegration of the former Yugoslavia. Compared to the research into Slovenian immigration to other countries and continents, this subject had been neglected for decades. The book ('Slovenian Immigration and Society Activities across the Former Yugoslavia: Historical Outline and the Present') is divided into three chronological parts: Historical Outline, Between the Past and the Present, and The Current Situation. In this book, the data and findings of previous research are revised, upgraded and completed by the results of the authors' own archival and statistical research as well as extensive fieldwork (questionnaire, half-structured interviews, meetings/roundtables, informal interviews, observation with participation), carried out in the framework of two research projects.
    Description: Tematika priseljevanja Slovencev v prostor nekdanje Jugoslavije in delovanja kulturnih društev, ki so jih ustanavljali tamkajšnji Slovenci v različnih obdobjih novejše zgodovine, je šele po razpadu skupne države postala zanimivejša za obširnejšo obravnavo raziskovalcev s področja mednarodnih migracij. Dotlej je bila ta tematika v primerjavi z raziskavami slovenskega izseljenstva v drugih delih sveta dolgo časa zapostavljena. Knjiga je razdeljena v tri kronološko zasnovane dele: Zgodovinski oris, Med preteklostjo in sedanjostjo ter Pregled aktualnega stanja~vsi trije deli v kar največji meri upoštevajo tudi dosedanje raziskovalne rezultate drugih avtorjev. Podatki in raziskovalna spoznanja preteklih raziskav pa so v tej knjigi korigirani, nadgrajeni in dopolnjeni z rezultati obsežne raziskave arhivskih in statističnih virov ter kompleksne terenske raziskave (slednja med drugim vključuje anketo, polstrukturirane intervjuje, strokovne ter informativno-strateške posvete, neformalne pogovore in opazovanje z udeležbo), ki so jo avtorji pričujoče knjige opravili v okviru dveh sočasno potekajočih raziskovalnih projektov.

    Description: Galileovo delo Dialog o dveh glavnih sistemih sveta, ptolemajskem in kopernikanskem iz leta 1632, »kopernikanski manifest« in eno najslavnejših del iz zgodovine znanosti, je pomemben mejnik v zgodovini človeške misli. V njem trije sogovorniki, pronicljivi Salviati, pošteni Sagredo in preprosti aristotelik Simplicij v štiridnevnem pogovoru razpravljajo o obeh sistemih sveta ter pretresajo njune prednosti in slabosti. Galileo v Dialogu obravnava tri glavne teme. Najprej skuša pokazati, da na Zemlji izvedljivi poskusi ne morejo pokazati niti njene negibnosti niti njenega gibanja. Nato preučuje nebesne pojave (Sončeve pege, gore na Luni …), da bi utrdil »kopernikansko hipotezo«. In nazadnje predlaga »duhovito domislico« o plimovanju morja, ki ga je mogoče pojasniti, samo če dopustimo, da se Zemlja giblje.

    Description: Knjiga prinaša poglobljeno študijo o prvi Galileovi »kopernikanski bitki«, ki je potekala v letih 1609–1611, ko je Galileo s pomočjo nedavno odkritega daljnogleda prišel do novih spoznanj, ki so govorila v prid kopernikanskemu »sistemu sveta« ali vsaj proti tedaj splošno sprejeti aristotelovski kozmologiji: od gor in dolin na Luni preko štirih Jupitrovih spremljevalcev do Venerinih faz. Študijo dopolnjuje dvojezična (latinsko-slovenska) izdaja Zvezdnega glasnika (Sidereus nuncius), ki je izšel leta 1609, v katerem je Galileo javnosti prvič poročal o svojih odkritjih, prevod Keplerjevega spisa Razgovor z Zvezdnim glasnikom (Disertatio cum cum nuncio sidereo) iz leta 1610 in izbrana pisma, napisana v obdobju med letoma 1597–1611, povezana z osupljivimi Galileovimi nebesnimi odkritji, spremljajočimi okoliščinami in polemikami, ki so jih spodbudila.

    Description: Monografija predstavlja poglobljen pregled zgodovine etnomuzikoloških raziskav skozi predstavo ene njenih najpomembnejših dejavnosti, snemanja zvočnih fenomenov, ter podrobno in sistematično obravnava prve zvočne zapise slovenske ljudske glasbene dediščine. Gre za prvo obsežno tovrstno študijo, ki jo kljub uporabi strokovnega izrazja odlikuje zgoščenost povedanega ter tekoč, jedrnat in jasen jezik. Tako je knjiga dostopna tudi širšemu krogu bralcev. Vsebina je razdeljena v dva temeljna sklopa~v prvem so predstavljene zgodovinske in tehnične okoliščine pojava prvih snemalnih naprav ter začetka njihove uporabe pri etnomuzikoloških snemanjih, v drugem sklopu pa so obširno podane zgodovinske, tehnične, metodološke, akustične in druge okoliščine nastanka prvih zvočnih zapisov v slovenski etnomuzikologiji. Opisani so nekdanji snemalni postopki ter prednosti in slabosti, ki jih imajo v primerjavi z drugimi metodami zapisovanja etnomuzikološkega gradiva in z današnjimi zvočnimi snemanji.

    Description: The scientific monograph Dežela – knez – stanovi [Province – Duke – Estates] describes the formation of Carniolan provincial estates at the time when they completed their constitutional consolidation and obtained a constructive political equilibrium with the duke. The central part reconstructs the composition of the Carniolan estates within the first century of their existence and the operations of the provincial diet until the death of Emperor Maximilian I. The monograph covers almost two centuries of the late medieval and early modern political and constitutional history. In doing so, it does not limit itself to the Province of Carniola, but discusses it in relation to other Habsburg provinces. This is the first complex presentation of the problem, based on a wide array of sources and comparisons with the development in the neighbouring countries. The work represents a research into an important question concerning the Carniolan as well as broader Slovenian history at the turn of the Middle Ages and Modern Period. It is a broadly based study and the first of its kind in Slovenian historiography to address the selected theme. Moreover, the monograph also bears importance for the broader, especially Austrian-German area.The book is divided into eleven chapters. It also contains an extensive summary in German, as well as an index of names and a subject index. The text is accompanied by three maps and thirty-four illustrations.
    Description: Znanstvena monografija Dežela - knez - stanovi obravnava proces formiranja kranjskih deželnih stanov v času, ko so dosegli institucionalno trdnost in vzpostavili konstruktivno politično ravnotežje z deželnim knezom. Osrednji del rekonstruira sestavo kranjskih stanov v prvem stoletju njihovega obstoja in delovanje deželnega zbora do smrti cesarja Maksimilijana I. Monografija zajema skoraj dve stoletji poznosrednjeveške in zgodnjenovoveške politične in ustavno-pravne zgodovine (okvirno od leta 1335 do leta 1518), pri čemer se ne omejuje zgolj na deželo Kranjsko, temveč jo smiselno povezuje z drugimi habsburškimi deželami. Gre za prvo kompleksno predstavitev te problematike, ki temelji na široki paleti virov in primerjavah z razvojem v sosednjih deželah. Knjiga ima enajst glavnih poglavij.

    Description: The present edition denotes a continuation of the collection of documents, which the historians Franc Kos and later Milko Kos began publishing in 1902 within the frame of the Leonova družba (Leon’s Society) in Ljubljana. Five books were issued under the title “Gradivo za zgodovino Slovencev v srednjem veku” (Materials for the history of Slovenes in the Middle Ages) (1902, 1906, 1911, 1915, 1928). The present edition is based on different starting-points, as modern researches into history can no longer refer to regestum (abstracts of documents) only but they must derive from sources themselves, published on the basis of entire originals, and equipped with appropriate critical apparatus. The book was written on the grounds of the material the historian Božo Otorepec of the Historical Institute collected. Included in the edition are documents of a ten-year period – that is from 1246 (with that year the fifth volume of Kos’s publishing of the Gradivo za zgodovino Slovencev v srednjem veku concludes) to 1255. The first volume (6/1) does not include a name index and a table of contents, which will be published in the second volume (6/2).
    Description: Izdaja je nadaljevanje zbirke dokumentov, ki jo je 1902 začel izdajati Franc Kos in nadaljeval Milko Kos. Vanjo so vključene listine obdobja desetih let, in sicer od leta 1246 (s katerim se končuje peti zvezek Kosove objave Gradiva za zgodovino Slovencev v srednjem veku) do leta 1955.

    Description: In the early 19th century part of the Slovenian, Italian, Austrian, Croatian and Montenegro territory has been included into political and administrative unit known as the Illyrian Provinces. The Illyrian Provinces incurred at the request of Napoleon Bonaparte and, together with its fall also ceased to exist. The edition of this book was prepared in order to celebrate the two hundredth anniversary of the Illyrian Provinces, to highlight the role of cartography in the Slovenia and to emphasize the importance of the historical moment of the causes and consequences of the Illyrian Provinces. Almost unknown Gaetano Palma is the author of cartographic display of the territory of the Illyrian Provinces. The merits of the map are: relatively large map scale, quality cartographic representation of the terrain and systematic breakdown of some cartographic elements. This depiction of the Illyrian Provinces was designed for completely common purpose, which should help to better recognize and to assimilate displayed area. Therefore, the authors have added several important aspects to the reproduction of this map. These are: an overview of the status of a state of the Illyrian Provinces, transparent outline of the main achievements of the Napoleonic Cartography in the Eastern Adriatic and the Eastern Alps regions and detailed geographical description and index of geographical names. Herewith they presented the map and the happening of that time to the modern reader.
    Description: Del slovenskega, italijanskega, avstrijskega, hrvaškega in črnogorskega ozemlja je bil v začetku 19. stoletja vključen v politično in upravno enoto, imenovano Ilirske province. Nastale so na zahtevo Napoleona Bonaparta in skupaj z njegovim padcem tudi prenehale obstajati. Pričujoča knjiga želi obeležiti dvestoto obletnico Ilirskih provinc, poudariti vlogo kartografije na Slovenskem ter pomen zgodovinskega trenutka z vzroki in posledicami nastanka Ilirskih provinc. Skoraj nepoznani Gaetano Palma je avtor kartografskega prikaza takratnega ozemlja Ilirskih provinc. Odlike zemljevida so razmeroma veliko merilo, kakovosten kartografski prikaz reliefa in sistematična razčlenitev nekaterih kartografskih prvin. Ta upodobitev Ilirskih provinc je bila izdelana za povsem vsakdanji namen, ki naj bi pomagal bolje spoznati in vsestransko razumeti prikazano območje. Zato so avtorji dodali reprodukciji zemljevida še pregled državnopravnega statusa Ilirskih provinc, pregledni oris glavnih dosežkov napoleonske kartografije na območju vzhodnega Jadrana in vzhodnih Alp, podroben geografski opis ter indeks geografskih imen. S tem so zemljevid in takratno dogajanje predstavili sodobnemu bralcu.

    Description: The book, published to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of Anton Melik Geographical Institute, outlines the main features of the institute, such as the establishment and development as well as the main stages of the research work over the years. The institute, being part of the Scientific Research Centre of Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts since 1981, is comprised of five departments: the Department of Geoecology, the Department of Regional Geography, the Department of Natural Disasters, the Department of Geographical Information Systems and the Department of Thematic Cartography. Besides this it houses a library, geographical collections, a cartographic collection and the Commission for the Standardisation of Geographical Names appointed by the Government of the Republic of Slovenia.Rich additional material, mainly photos, that result from the research projects (the Triglav glacier and the glacier below Skuta, natural disasters and alpine farms) as well as from the preparatory work for numerous geographical publications about Slovenia and its landscapes, complements the text.

    Description: This publication presents fifty-four Hallstatt necropolises from central Slovenia, which are crucial to the course of researching the settlement and social structures of the Early Iron Age. Topographic sources are proffered as well as all the excavated materials, among which are also unique specimens.The book is divided into three parts. The first section extends a review of the history of excavations of Hallstatt tumuli, from the very onset and all through to WWI. It is a comprehensive study of the history of archaeology in Slovenia, posing the development of museology, the heritage protection profession and the professional and scientific efforts of the then investigators. Numerous illustrations of yet unpublished documents, preserved mainly in foreign museums and archives, are incorporated in the text.The second section is dedicated to the issue of chronology and the cultural- historical evaluation of Hallstatt necropolises in the Dolenjska region, which regarding their richness easily compare with the most important of necropolises in neighboring countries. It is precisely the tumulus necropolises from the Dolenjska region that form the foundations for the concept of the southeastern Alpine Hallstatt culture, which during the first millennium BC represented one of the most developed cultures in Europe.
    Description: V knjigi je predstavljenih štiriinpetdeset halštatskih nekropol Dolenjske, ki so nadvse pomembne za proučevanje poselitvenih in družbenih struktur starejše železne dobe. Objavljeni so tako topografski viri kot celotno izkopano gradivo, med katerim so tudi unikatni kosi. Delo je pomembno tudi z vidika proučevanja naše kulturne dediščine, saj je postalo gradivo z objavo dostopno širši strokovni javnosti.
