    Il Gran Sottisier. Mirabilia, falsi e plagi nel giornalismo letterario di Giovanni Pellegrino Dandi (2023)

    Description: An abbot, a journalist, and a man of letters, Giovanni Pellegrino Dandi (1664–c. 1726) curated, during his frenetic activity, the columns of various literary periodicals. His writings immediately caught the attention of some of the leading Italian intellectuals of his time, from Lodovico Antonio Muratori to Antonio Vallisneri. While filling a gap in the coeval cultural press, Dandi’s publications, such as «Gran Giornale de’ Letterati» (1701–1704), were, in fact, a fraud. Rather than creating original works, Dandi appropriated writings that had been printed before, and were later forgotten by the readers. Jacopo Narros brings to light the documentation about Dandi’s cheatings, creating an entertaining narrative of the editorial nonchalance of this singular erudite, and outlining his fascinating figure of forger and plagiarist. Moreover, by investigating the relationship between the «gran sottisier» and the 17th and 18th century literary community, Narros shows the dynamism of the intellectual life of that period. In those years, erudites like Apostolo Zeno and Scipione Maffei were active in structuring new communicative strategies to transmit innovative scientific discoveries and literary experiences to their readership.

Le pubblicazioni di Dandi – a partire dal «Gran Giornale de’ Letterati» (1701-1704) – rimediavano a un’effettiva lacuna della coeva divulgazione culturale a stampa, ma erano il più delle volte confezionate rubando scritti già usciti in precedenza e ormai dimenticati dai lettori. Jacopo Narros ripercorre con grande capacità narrativa la disinvoltura editoriale di questo singolare letterato e, ricorrendo a molti documenti, ne delinea la figura di falsario e plagiario. Nello stesso tempo, ponendo il «gran sottisier» in rapporto con la comunità intellettuale sei-settecentesca, traccia il quadro di una cultura in movimento, nella quale altri autori – tra i primi Apostolo Zeno e Scipione Maffei – erano impegnati a creare nuovi e più fondati strumenti per trasmettere ai lettori una innovativa informazione scientifica e letteraria.

    Description: From the middle of the 16th century, the practice of duelling, by then closely linked to the principle of honour and the defence of its integrity, became the subject of a large number of treatises addressed to a large audience of gentlemen, eager to know the most honourable ways to come to terms with the disputes that often involved them. Treatises on the duel, whose diffusion was favoured by the use of the vernacular and the intense publishing activity of the time, gave rise to a discipline, the science of chivalry, which played a decisive role in the diffusion of the myth of chivalry and in the definition of a common noble ethos. Through an indepth study, in Onorati gentiluomini e duellanti impavidi Giovanni Fiazza highlights the foundations of a way of understanding the division between the classes and social relations that would come to an end only two centuries later, with the end of the Old Regime.

    Description: Dalla metà del Cinquecento la pratica del duello, ormai strettamente legata al principio dell’onore e alla difesa della sua integrità, divenne l’oggetto di un ampio numero di trattati rivolti a un folto pubblico di gentiluomini, quanto mai desiderosi di conoscere i modi più onorevoli per venire a capo delle dispute che li vedevano spesso coinvolti. La trattatistica sul duello, la cui diffusione fu favorita dall’uso del volgare e dall’intensa attività editoriale dell’epoca, diede vita a una vera e propria disciplina, la scienza cavalleresca, che ebbe un ruolo determinante nella diffusione del mito della cavalleria e nella definizione di un comune ethos nobiliare. Approfondendone lo studio in Onorati gentiluomini e duellanti impavidi, Giovanni Fiazza mette in evidenza le basi di un modo di intendere la divisione tra i ceti e i rapporti sociali che sarebbe tramontato solamente due secoli dopo, con la fine dell’Antico Regime.

    Description: “Stai fermo un girone” (skip a turn in hell) is a game based on the “Game of the Goose”, a traditional children’s board game. It is dedicated to Inferno by Dante Alighieri, and to all humanities research focused on the Middle Ages. To advance along the board, and to win the game, one must not only have a certain familiarity with cantos, characters, and themes of Dante’s Inferno, but must also be able to tackle different modes of enquiry for the texts used in university studies. In so doing, one can unlock a door through which to view Dante’s work, set against the backdrop of the Middle Ages, with its history, ideas, culture, questions raised, and answers given. This board game will help stimulate and further the understanding of secondary school students encountering Dante’s verses for the first time. It’s also a fun way for aficionados to relive and revisit a beloved writing. Thanks to its three levels of difficulty, the game is suitable for persons of all skill levels, from novices to veterans. The print-cut-play format makes it easy for everyone to build their own set of cards, markers and board, and to immerse themselves in the world of Dante and his Inferno.

    Description: “Stai fermo un girone” è un gioco concepito sul modello del tradizionale “gioco dell’oca”, dedicato all’Inferno di Dante Alighieri e alle discipline della ricerca umanistica coinvolte nello studio del Medioevo. Per avanzare e vincere non occorrono soltanto conoscenze sui canti, i personaggi e i temi infernali, ma ci si dovrà anche confrontare con diversi metodi di indagine applicati ai testi negli studi universitari: questa, anzi, sarà la porta d’accesso per guardare all’opera dantesca sullo sfondo dell’intero Medioevo, con la sua storia, le sue idee, la sua cultura, i problemi che si è posto e le risposte che ha provato a dare. Il gioco potrà servire a stimolare e consolidare l’apprendimento in studenti delle superiori che incontrino per la prima volta i versi danteschi, o essere occasione per tutti gli appassionati per rivivere e ricordare – in maniera più disimpegnata – letture del passato. Grazie ai suoi tre livelli di difficoltà, infatti, si adatta a tutti i giocatori, dai principianti agli esperti.     Description: The first volume of the Unimi Connect - Universe Third Mission series features 14 projects covering social inclusion, sustainability and rights. The first section describes activities to support the most fragile: such as the attempt to restore an identity to the victims of the Mediterranean Sea; the outpatient clinic built for the children from the slums of Nairobi; and the project to help the inmates who want to graduate from prison. In the second section, projects dedicated to sustainability find space: such as the University of the Mountain in Edolo or the Milan University's own strategies to reduce the environmental impact of its activities. In the third volume, we find projects focused on human rights: those of people with disabilities, the right to a safe and transparent society, and legal matters concerning international families.

    Description: Although there had long been pressing demands to limit international migration, the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001 marked an emblematic turning point in national border policies. The new century ushered in renewed efforts by national governments, and hence European policymakers, to re-instate stricter controls on trans-border mobility, even at the cost of violating international agreements and compromising commitments to the protection of human rights. The theme of borders has also been a domain of inquiry for academia and the scientific community. Various scientific disciplines have pooled resources and initiated dialogue with the larger society on issues such as boundaries, migrations, and human rights. This volume is the fruit of an initiative by the UNIMI Migration and Human Rights Research Centre and offers the thoughts and insights of a number of authors, contributing a range of disciplinary perspectives to bear on this critical issue of our times.

    Description: Sebbene le istanze per la limitazione delle migrazioni internazionali fossero già da tempo pressanti, gli attentati dell’11 settembre 2001 sono assurti a momento emblematico di svolta della politica dei confini. Il nuovo secolo si è aperto sotto il segno della riaffermazione della volontà dei governi nazionali, e di riflesso delle istituzioni europee, di ripristinare un più stretto controllo sulla mobilità transfrontaliera, anche a costo di sottrarsi agli obblighi sanciti dalle convenzioni internazionali e di compromettere il proprio impegno per la tutela dei diritti umani. Il tema dei confini interroga anche il mondo accademico e il dibattito scientifico.  Intorno ai nessi tra confini, migrazioni e diritti umani, varie discipline scientifiche si confrontano ed entrano in dialogo con la società.  In questa chiave, il presente volume, frutto dell’iniziativa del CRC “Migrazioni e diritti umani” dell’università degli studi di Milano, intende proporre una riflessione a più voci, da diverse prospettive disciplinari, intorno a una questione così cruciale per il nostro tempo.
