    Description: Giacomo Verde (Cimitile 1956-Lucca 2020), video artist and techno performer, has dedicated his entire life to the creation of a social and participatory art that directly engages the audience in the creative process, with the use of analogue, digital and web technologies. Verde was a tireless experimenter with new technologies, favouring the use of a poor technology, reinvented in relation to changing expressive needs. The present book follows, just over a year later, the previous text entitled Giacomo Verde. Attraversamenti tra teatro e video (1986-1992), also published by Milano University Press. The research is continued in this volume, which aims to show the artist's work in the period 1993-2003 through preparatory materials for interactive performances and installations that highlight the importance of drawing as a substantial medium in Verde's technological creative process.

    Description: Giacomo Verde (Cimitile 1956-Lucca 2020), videoartista e tecnoperformer, ha dedicato tutta la vita alla creazione di un’arte sociale, impegnata e partecipata con uso delle tecnologie analogiche, digitali e della rete; Verde è stato un instancabile sperimentatore delle nuove tecnologie, pur privilegiando sempre l’uso di una tecnologia povera, alla portata di tutti, ogni volta reinventata in relazione alle mutate esigenze espressive. Il presente volume segue, a distanza di poco più di un anno, il precedente testo intitolato Giacomo Verde. Attraversamenti tra teatro e video (1986-1992), pubblicato sempre per Milano University Press. La ricerca è continuata in questo volume che intende mostrare il lavoro dell’artista nel periodo 1993-2003 attraverso materiali preparatori per le opere e le performance interattive che permettono di evidenziare l’importanza del disegno come medium sostanziale del processo creativo tecnologico di Verde.

The section "Opening up to science and culture" offers an insight into five initiatives differing in themes and scopes but sharing a common denominator in their impact on society. The book explores the following topics: Botanical gardens’ role in research advancement and knowledge dissemination; the University of Milan Orchestra’s contribution to a thriving cultural environment; the establishment and consolidation of relations with China; the University’s commitment to open access policies to foster knowledge sharing dynamics; the positive impact of studies on the toxicological safety of products on our daily life. The second section is entitled "Opening up to young people". Engagement in innovative knowledge dissemination activities conveys researchers’ passion for science and proves that even the most complex ideas and concepts can be accessible in a fun, yet scientifically sound, manner. In this section, you might read about programs on stem cells and brain research engaging high school students, games designed to attract the generic public to the World of Dante and theater plays unvealing the charm of Physics. The book concludes with a focus on archaeological research, highlighting not only its contribution to new discoveries, but also its role in consolidating relations with territories, strenghtening local identities and advancing innovation. The last section “Apri all’Antico” takes the reader on a journey to the discovery of the magnificent archeological sites of Aswan in Egypt and Tarquinia and Poviglio in Italy.

    Description: L’idea di apertura è quella che delinea questo secondo volume della collana Unimi Connect – Universo Terza Missione. Vengono proposti infatti qui 12 progetti contrassegnati dall’idea che la conoscenza può essere un formidabile motore di innovazione sociale quando è condivisa con la società. Aprire a scienza e cultura segna i primi cinque racconti laddove si affermano storie tra loro profondamente differenti ma di grande valore e importanza: dal rilevante ruolo degli Orti Botanici, al prestigio che si è conquistata l’Orchestra dell’Università degli studi di Milano; dal sistema di relazioni con il mondo cinese, alla fondamentale rilevanza dei processi di condivisione della conoscenza nei processi di apertura della scienza per arrivare all’importanza degli studi sui farmaci per la vita di tutti i giorni.     Description: A little more than a year after the death of Giacomo Verde, pioneer of video/interactive art, techno-theatre and Italian "artivist", the corpus of unpublished drawings and sketches in pencil, pastel and collage for videos, video installations and video performances by the artist from the period 1986-1992 is published. This is the first publication  from the Giacomo Verde Archive and it illustrates Verde's first "techno-artistic" phase: a well-documented and creatively rich period, when in 1983 he arrived, self-taught, from popular and street theatre to video art, works and installations whose characteristic feature was the craftsmanship of the "technological artefact", the use of low technology and the addition of poor materials. The authors  Anna Maria Monteverdi Dalila Flavia D’Amico, Vincenzo Sansone, dedicate the book to the warm memory of the unforgettable Giacomo Verde.

    Description: A poco più di un anno di distanza dalla scomparsa di Giacomo Verde, pioniere della videoarte, del tecnoteatro e dell’arte interattiva italiana e convinto “artivista”, viene pubblicato il corpus di disegni inediti e bozzetti a matita, pastello e collage per video, videoinstallazioni e video performance dell’artista del periodo 1986-1992 (organizzato dall’autore in una sequenza cronologica inversa: 1992-1986). Si tratta della prima pubblicazione nata dal costituendo Archivio Giacomo Verde e illustra la prima fase “tecnoartistica” di Verde: un periodo ben documentato e ricco creativamente parlando, quando approda da autodidatta, nel 1983 dal teatro popolare e di strada alla videoarte opere e installazioni aventi come caratteristica l’artigianalità del “manufatto tecnologico”, l’uso della bassa tecnologia e l’aggiunta di materiali poveri. Gli autori dedicano il libro alla memoria dell’indimenticato Giacomo Verde.
