    Description: I quaderni di laboratorio di Antoine-Laurent Lavoisier (1743-1794) sono fonti preziose per chi studia la cosiddetta “nuova chimica” del Settecento. Tutt’ora inediti, questi documenti sono qui riletti alla luce di un dettaglio: la presenza, tra una pagina e l’altra, della grafia di Marie-Anne Paulze-Lavoisier (1758-1836), moglie e collaboratrice del celebre chimico francese. È in effetti lei, ben più di altri assistenti, a compilare questo grande “archivio dell’esperimento”, per poi conservarlo (senza mai smettere di maneggiarlo) nei quattro decenni che seguirono la morte del marito nel 1794. Un lavoro che lei stessa assimilava con orgoglio a quello di un «segretario». Questo libro ricuce insieme queste storie, aprendo nuove prospettive tra storia materiale della scienza, storia sociale e storia delle donne e di genere.

    Description: Sexual harassment is a complex behaviour, characterized by several dimensions and definitions, as shown by the literature. In an online context, it is important to fully understand its nature, characteristics and consequences as well as how it may affect adolescents. This work aims to systematize the information available in the literature, by describing the main characteristics of the phenomenon, and trying to provide a definition. The research, which was conducted on four databases in November 2021, led to the identification of 20958 works. After removing the duplicates, and analyzing the abstracts and full-texts, a final number of 65 works were included, which were read in full-text and analysed. As for the studies collected, the type of relationship between the aggressor and the victim is described, alongside a description of the behaviors classified as online sexual harassment. Online sexual harassment can manifest itself in three main typologies (verbal, visual, cybersexual). Within these typologies, it is possible to identify three prevalent behaviours: unwanted solicitation, non-consensual sexting, and sharing of intimate and/or private content with third parties without the victim’s consent.

President Sassoli's speeches at the Social Summit held in the city of Porto on 7 and 8 May 2021 represent the synthesis of his socio-cultural and geopolitical vision. The Conference on the Future of Europe, which opened on 17 June 2021, ended when unfortunately Sassoli had already left us.

    Description: The gender gap that traverses the planet is one of the most blatant democratic failures, and it is no longer an additional or accessory issue but one that is crucial to the wellbeing of both men and women. The strategies of intervention mapped out in international programmes (gender mainstreaming and empowerment) underscore the commitment and the responsibilities of educational processes. The aim of the book is to stimulate reflection on the role of education in the establishment of gender identities and in fostering the human rights of women in contemporary society.     Description: "Cleaning is central to all societies. It is an experience shared by almost everyone. A clean home is related to both respectability and status. The mere execution of the deed – whether it concerns taking care of other peoples’ dirt or ones’ own – ranks, however, strikingly low, contaminating everyone who has to perform it. Therefore, cleaning is permeated by hierarchies of for instance gender, class, sexuality and race. Even though cleaning activates several existential and politically burning questions, it is surprisingly non-existing in research. The point of departure for this study is anthropological, and the material is a number of interviews with Swedes of today about their habits and experiences of cleaning. In focus are questions of cleaning as a cultural symbol, a bodily practice, temporality, and as an expression of taking care of decay. By investigating the meaning of what cleaning means to people – how it is experienced, organized, and distributed in everyday life – I want to discuss how such a central part of our existence is regarded as something that lacks value."

    Description: Perception of mattering, defined as individual’s feeling of being important for others (Rosenberg and McCullogh 1981), is a construct which in the recent years has received an increasing amount of attention as a factor able to improve people well-being. Individual well-being has been defined in different ways: hedonic as satisfaction with life (Diener and Lucas 1999), eudaimonic that is the feeling of realization of the proper true self (Ryff 1995), and holistic, namely the satisfaction toward different life domains (Prilleltensky et al. 2015). Given the various definitions, it was necessary to systematize this literature in order to clarify if perceived mattering is linked to well-being independently of the perspective adopted by researchers to conceptualize this construct. Therefore, a systematic review, following the PRISMA statement, was conducted. The final number of included studies was 39 (22 hedonic, 9 eudaimonic and 9 holistic well-being). Almost all the studies reported a positive association between mattering and well-being except for some differences due to participants’ gender or cultural background. Results indicated the positive role of mattering in promoting well-being independently from the conceptualization adopted.

    Description: This paper focuses on the structure and function, as well as on the interweavings, variations and integrations of three types of scientific writing (the dialogue, the treatise, the essay) to which Italian pedagogy has focused only partially. From the reflections presented and through the examples given (Galilei, Darwin, Piaget) it emerges that, starting with the "scientific revolution," the renewal of science has also taken place with the contribution of scientific writing, which has become progressively more linear, more open, more disseminated, more dialectical, and more informative.

    Description: Social reportages are written by reporters who fight for the weak and expose injustices. So it is said in the profession, in handbooks and among the genre’s supporters. But what is hidden behind the ideal? And what does the commitment look like when it is converted into text? This book highlights reportages by some of the 20th century’s most celebrated Swedish reporters and examines the ways in which their texts convey a commitment to the reader. The narratologically based analyses are performed against a background of changing ideas about a reporter’s role in society. It turns out that the commitment is often time-related and can be counteracted by generalizing values about the depicted people. Here, the difference between empathy and compassion becomes crucial. The selected reporters represent Swedish social reportage at central turning points within the tradition. Ester Blenda Nordström and Gustaf Hellström have been chosen for the 1910s, Ivar Lo-Johansson for the years around 1930, Barbro Alving for the 1950s, Jan Guillou for the 1970s and Maciej Zaremba and Karen Söderberg for the 1990s and 2000s.

    Description: Eco-territorialism is the mature definition of the long scientific research/action path that the Italian territorialist school started in the 1990s, putting the territory and its patrimonialisation at the centre of the alternatives to processes of deterritorialisation and homologising urbanisation of the planet enacted by the economic-financial globalisation. The founding in 2011 of the Territorialist Society has strengthened the multidisciplinary nature of the approach and its operational component with the ‘urban bioregion’ tool. The ‘eco’ prefix denotes the priority given to the ecological question, to the relationships between human and non-human, living and non-living, in the regeneration processes of the world’s places we are trying to activate.

    Description: Multi-ethnic societies have the potential to enrich societies culturally (Mok et al. 2007), but they can also foster intolerance and anti-immigrant movements, where minorities may be more likely to be discriminated (Baysu et al. 2014; Rutland and Killen 2015) and bullied if this behaviour is repeated over time. A socio-ecological perspective becomes fundamental because the context, together with specific individual characteristics, contributes to maintaining negative attitudes towards those who belong to a different ethnic group.     Description: The currently prevailing development model and its effects in terms of settlement organization have negative implications especially in metropolitan contexts, where the effects of large agglomerations, speculative dynamics and neoliberal exploitation are stronger. The idea of urban bioregion tries to build an alternative to the dominant, heteronomous model of settlement organization aiming at ‘reterritorializing’ the ecological question within the processes of production of space with an integrated and multidimensional approach, careful to enhance the capacities and possibilities of local self-government. It therefore also calls into question a rethinking of the forms of politics. The essay illustrates possible paths in this direction, starting from suburban neighbourhoods and put in place through mutualism networks and civic hubs, describing a few experimentations in the Roman area.

    Description: The poster presented here collects data from the first year of a research aimed at investigating the models of thought that emerge from artistic performances from a point of view that is not only personal, but also social and cultural, in order to understand what art may tell us about the social and cultural contexts. A review of the literature has led to further investigate the concept of pedagogical model on the one hand and the potential of art from an educational point of view on the other. A pedagogical model is a model of thought that concerns attitudes and behaviors that guide the life of the individual and that is transmitted from generation to generation, from a personal, social and cultural point of view. These models are mainly manifested through symbolic language. Art gives life to a ‘potential space’ that allows the individual not only to become aware of his own representations of the world, but also to act concretely by transforming them. The study will then investigate the processes through which this happens, researching, through the words and narrations of the protagonists of the artistic experience, the models of thought emerging from the experience itself, and framing them within the social and cultural thought of reference. The methodology will be qualitative, with an eidetic approach and will adopt, as a strategy, the case study focused on the workshop of sound expression with natural objects called Orchestra della natura, managed by Daniele Delfino.

    Description: In this volume of studies, Animal: Moments of Affect, Moments of Pain, eight ethnologists apply a cultural perspective to people’s varied and complex relationships with other species. The contributions focus on wild animals, that is, those that are rarely found in the authors’ immediate vicinity. Based on ongoing research, the articles discuss themes such as conflicts and joys in the birdwatching world, charismatic animals in various exhibition contexts, children’s fears, morbid animal jokes and the ritual transformation of living animals into edible meat. The texts range from the tender, comical and cute to death and existential vulnerability. The book begins with the editors presenting an overview of how animals have been produced, noticed and studied in a mostly Nordic humanistic research context. Then the articles follow. Based on the idea of affective logic, Elin Lundquist follows the on-site monitoring of the bird hunting that takes place annually in Malta. Mattias Frihammar uses observations at a wilderness gallery with taxidermied animals to reflect on local identity. Lars Kaijser examines the ambivalent and conflicted portrayal of sharks in public aquariums. Sverker Hyltén-Cavallius writes about the death of extinct animals and how this is displayed in natural history museums. Susanne Nylund Skog examines birdwatchers’ stories as an expression of collecting and as a way of manifesting status. With lobster cartoons as a starting point, Simon Ekström shows how these depict both animal rights issues and human anxiety. Helena Hörnfeldt investigates animal fear and the diffuse boundary between humans and animals. Proceeding from different depictions of slaughter and the preparation of meat, Michelle Zethson problematizes how some animals are made edible. The volume ends with an epilogue by the editors commenting on the findings.

    Description: "To analyze the emergence of a professional field means to understand the social processes that take place in the formation of professions in society such as. knowledge, power and social order. Why does the medical profession have such a high status? How come some professions have power over others? What does medical science contribute to professional knowledge? These are some of the questions that this book seeks to answer through a professional sociological analysis. The book is about the growth and professionalization of the Swedish medical field from the Middle Ages to the 1990s, with a focus on three of its professions that have been active there, namely doctors, nurses and biomedical analysts (former laboratory assistants). Books about professions often focus on a profession or an important institution, but there is no book that describes the larger social professional medical field over time. By becoming aware of the field-specific change and development processes and their inertia, one understands that change is very slow and that there are many parameters that must work in the same direction for a real change to take place and be noticed. Other important insights are that the professions themselves are not so strong and dynamic, but that they are dependent on opportunities being opened and closed by external forces, in many cases without their intervention. The book sheds light on how to understand the world around you in a new way, with a critical holistic perspective and with terminology that can help to put into words what is experienced."
