    Description: La littérature antique classique dans les bibliothèques : tel est l’intérêt partagé qui réunit dans cet ouvrage littéraires, historiens du livre et chercheurs d’horizons divers pour confronter leurs regards et leurs méthodes. Avec l’Antiquité classique, c’est une tradition qui est donnée à examiner une tradition fondatrice des études littéraires, mais surtout d’un système d’éducation et de pensée, qui à certains moments se confond avec la culture elle-même : l’intense renouvellement qu’elle permet, et son lent et progressif affaiblissement à la fin de l’Âge classique méritaient d’être pris dans le temps long, du xve au xixe siècle. À partir des bibliothèques et de leur histoire se dessine une histoire du « goût antique », celui des estampes comme celui d’une littérature dont les auteurs canoniques évoluent au fil du temps. On y entend les échos d’une histoire intellectuelle, celle des méthodes de classement et de stratification des savoirs, celle qui définit la place de l’Antiquité – et de la littérature – dans l’enseignement. On y lit également une histoire du dialogue qui s’est noué de tout temps, et plus particulièrement à la Renaissance, entre les anciens et les modernes. Histoire culturelle encore, qui renvoie à la formation de l’honnête homme comme à celle de l’homme de l’art, et illustre la force des canons bibliophiliques ou des modes et impératifs sociaux au moins autant que les goûts individuels.

    Description: The 43rd UID conference, held in Genova, takes up the theme of ‘Dialogues’ as practice and debate on many fundamental topics in our social life, especially in these complex and not yet resolved times. The city of Genova offers the opportunity to ponder on the value of comparison and on the possibilities for the community, naturally focused on the aspects that concern us, as professors, researchers, disseminators of knowledge, or on all the possibile meanings of the discipline of representation and its dialogue with ‘others’, which we have broadly catalogued in three macro areas: History, Semiotics, Science / Technology. Therefore, “dialogue” as a profitable exchange based on a common language, without which it is impossible to comprehend and understand one another; and the graphic sign that connotes the conference is the precise transcription of this concept: the title ‘translated’ into signs, derived from the visual alphabet designed for the visual identity of the UID since 2017. There are many topics which refer to three macro sessions: - Witnessing (signs and history) - Communicating (signs and semiotics) - Experimenting (signs and sciences) Thanks to the different points of view, an exceptional resource of our disciplinary area, we want to try to outline the prevailing theoretical-operational synergies, the collaborative lines of an instrumental nature, the recent updates of the repertoires of images that attest and nourish the relations among representation, history, semiotics, sciences.

    Description: The art of printing with movable type made its appearance in Perugia -then as now, the heart of Italy- in 1471, when the city was under the sway of Braccio Baglioni. Perugia was home to an important university which had been attracting students from all over Europe for more than a century. They found hospitality in two colleges, of which the ‘Sapienza Vecchia’, in particular, was accustomed to accommodating students from abroad. The colleges were themselves instrumental in assisting the work of the earliest printers, all of them foreigners; their enterprise flourished for about fifteen years before strong competition from larger printing centres, notably Venice, took control of the Perugian book market. A second phase in local book production started at the turn of the century under the aegis of two major players, the Cartolari family and Bianchino dal Leone. The history of the book in Perugia is characterized by a quality and originality which is not reflected in the modest quantities produced there, and the major bibliographers have always taken an interest in it. All that and more can be found in this book, the outcome of lengthy research based on detailed analysis of all known editions and archival documents, including a number of new discoveries.

    Description: The sociology of the reception of artistic works attempts to exploit the fact – often mentioned in theoretical terms but rarely explored empirically – that works only exist and last because of the interpretative activity of their viewers: readers and spectators are always present as third parties placed between the meaning which the artist gave to their work and that which is attributed by those whose receive it. In order to apprehend such acts of reception a team of researchers lead by Jean-Claude Passeron and Emmanuel Pedler in 1987 followed visitors to the Musée Granet in Aix-en Provence chronometer in hand. Their aim was to uncover the social factors which underlie the ‘time given to the paintings’. Since its publication in 1991 the present work, which gave an account of the original study, has been cited rather more often that it has been read. Now reedited in the Bibliothèque idéale des sciences sociales it has been augmented by several important articles in which the authors of the original study pursued their analysis of the reception of artistic works, both in the fields of both pictures and music. In an attempt to describe and measure precisely the ‘pacts’ of reception that are created between the works of art and their public, the ensemble proposes a sociology centred on the fate of singular works which is different from the sociology of cultural consumption which currently dominates sociological surveys of culture. As an attempt to identify the semic acts of aesthetic experience by identifying them with objective indicators it positins itself firmly within the sociology of inquiry. In addition to this collection of texts, a long interview with Jean-Claude Passeron and Emmanuel Pedler allows readers to discover the general perspective in which this exemplary survey was carried out and how it influenced their subsequent work. Finally, and perhaps the post original aspect of the reedition, it provides readers with the original data of the survey, thus allowing them to prolong the authors’ analyses and to explore further the avenues opened by an approach whose fertility heuristic is as pertinent as it ever was.

    Description: The volume, dedicated to the 44th International Conference of the Italian Union for Drawing, investigates the theme of ‘Transitions’, which particularly effectively represents our time and the current condition of the discipline of Drawing. The term, beyond its generic meaning of an intermediate stage in a process in which a condition changes from one state to another, has always been used in various fields, from music to geophysics. In fact, the disciplines of drawing have always been confronted with themes and issues relating to transitions from one condition to another. The history of representation tells us of transformations, even epochal ones, relating to ‘drawing’, with all that such transitions entail: suffice it to think of the evolution of forms of representation, of instrumental apparatuses, of the mutability of supports, of the analogical-digital transition underway, of the new modes of communication on platforms, of the hypertrophic offer of images also on the net that confirms Guy Debord’s intuitions relating to the new spectacularisation of society. Similarly, representation triggers transitions in the prefiguration and communication of design, the anticipation and foreshadowing of future events.The challenges posed by the digital pose open questions whose scope can only be glimpsed, such as the relationship between drawing and the act of modelling, and the construction of new paradigms of visual language and communication. ‘Transitions’, almost implicitly, points to possible futures, the evolution of technique and the search for new modes of expression; at the same time, however, it can suggest silences and reflections in a process of connection between history, theory, criticism and construction.

    Description: La Fontaine affiche nettement sa filiation à l’égard de Marot. Du moins à l’égard d’un Marot. Comme beaucoup d’auteurs de son époque, il voit en effet dans le poète de L’Adolescence clémentine l’efflorescence printanière d’un style proprement français, qui allie au piquant et au brio la naïveté toute vernale d’une écriture. L’auteur des Fables et des Contes admire ainsi le brillant faiseur d’épigrammes. Il y reconnaît « le génie fran­çais », son ingenium, son naturel. Ce naturel s’exprime à la fois dans un esprit gaulois – que Rabelais radicalise trop pour qu’on puisse en faire un allié de marque – et une écriture transparente, non savante, à l’opposé de l’artificieuse et docte poésie de la Pléiade rejetée par le XVIIe siècle comme un accident regrettable dans l’histoire des formes. Cet « élégant badinage », assigné depuis Boileau à Marot, a pu nuire à l’œuvre de ce dernier en en restreignant la portée. La critique moderne a, par contraste, reconnu dans le poète de Cahors un esprit secret, anxieux, au cœur des débats évangéliques du premier XVIe siècle. Le vrai Marot est sûrement à rechercher au carrefour de ces deux interprétations extrêmes ; comme La Fontaine, au demeurant, que l’on ne peut réduire au modèle achevé de l’esthétique galante. La relation qui unit Marot et La Fontaine est bien en tout cas au départ une relation d’ordre formel. Aussi les chercheurs réunis ici ont tous tenté de repenser ou de repréciser les lectures stylistiques de l’un ou l’autre de ces auteurs à travers leur interprétation de L’Adolescence clémentine ou des Amours de Psyché et de Cupidon. La diversité des points de vue adoptés permet d’aider à définir ce qui reste en dernier lieu le plus difficile à caractériser, ce naturel du style, si revêche à l’analyse littéraire.

    Description: How can we understand the philosophy of linguistics by taking the discipline’s actual theoretical pluralism as our starting point? By what criteria can grammatical research be assessed if we abandon a competitive model of theorising? Through an investigation of different areas of linguistics, this book brings to light certain hermeneutic properties of linguistic theorisation which are currently poorly understood and sometimes not even yet noticed. As a complement to these investigations, the book analyses a number of questions that arise in the “ideological” criticism of contemporary linguistics, examining the discipline’s theoretical activity in light of the socio-ideological realities on which it depends, sometimes unwittingly. Uniting two approaches to linguistics that are rarely brought into dialogue, the book opens up the possibility of an alternative understanding of the complexity of the particular textual objects that are grammatical theories.

    Description: Apprendre avec des images et du son : depuis longtemps déjà le cinéma, puis la vidéo et le multimédia, ont investi l’enseignement. Le développement de ces pratiques suit un parcours complexe qu’infléchissent de nombreux facteurs : innovations techniques, histoire du cinéma, évolution des savoirs et de leur didactique, décisions politiques et passions individuelles... Dans ce domaine, le travail des pionniers est parfois méconnu, sinon oublié, et l’accumulation des savoirs et des expériences se fait difficilement. L’histoire des fonds d’archives de films pédagogiques et scientifiques, qui datent quasiment des débuts du cinéma, l’histoire des personnes et des institutions, à l’origine de ces productions d’images et de sons, restent à écrire. Parallèlement, on constate un intérêt grandissant pour les images et les films d’archives. Des cinémathèques spécialisées s’organisent et se développent, leurs fonds intéressent les producteurs et les diffuseurs de films ainsi que les chercheurs. Réfléchir sur ce que nous apprennent les documents anciens, prendre en compte la richesse des fonds d’archives filmées, dans les domaines scientifique et pédagogique, s’interroger sur les usages actuels et futurs, les raisons des oublis et les enjeux de la mémoire, tel est l’enjeu de ce recueil.

    Description: L’actualité politique en France se caractérise à la fois par une unification de la classe politique dans une perspective européenne et l’émergence de porte-parole au sein d’une société civile en mouvement.     Description: Although the multimodal components of communication have been studied for some time in different scientific fields, and provide relevant frameworks for the analysis of social meaning, the organisation of interaction and knowledge sharing, this book looks at them in relation to the training of education professionals. It presents empirical studies in different educational contexts: special education; primary and secondary education; initial and continuing vocational training. Based on Gunther Kress’s social semiotic theory, it examines the methodological conditions in which educational practice which mobilises a variety of semiotic resources - gestuality, gaze, space, proxemy, artefacts and language – can be observed and interpreted. But the authors also pose the question of how these observation and interpretation conditions can be reintroduced in the field of training for the education profession (How can we elicit the semiotic experiences of professionals in training? What can be observed? With what tools?) and call for the recognition of multimodal practices in the construction, mediation and acquisition of knowledge.

    Description: The so-called data deluge, along with ever-increasing technological capabilities, tantalizes geographers with exciting opportunities for spatial data analysis. These opportunities come with challenges, because data and technology, alone, cannot address the pressing questions of our world. Spatial analysis, a.k.a. spatial statistics, is a lot more than colourful maps and attractive displays: still relatively underrepresented in the Italian geography, this discipline has grown from a strictly quantitative niche to part of a critical spatial science and continues to stimulate new developments in statistics because, as we know, spatial is special. This book, published in the series “New Geographies. Work Tools”, adds spatial analysis to the Italian geographer’s toolbox. Not a how-to manual, it presents some of the core analytical issues through the redundancy of narrative language and mathematical language. It traces the journey of spatial analysis from its roots in quantitative geography, GIS, and statistics, towards the definition of its own identity and the acceptance of its own relativity and limitations. It discusses the relationship of spatial analysis with GIScience and its efforts to embed critiques within its own discourse, emphasizing the role of theory, the importance of hypothesis testing, and acknowledging the ethics surrounding the use and analysis of data. A few examples illustrate practical implementations, showing the value added by spatial statistics in yielding reliable analyses that can support management decisions. It concludes with a brief outlook on the Italian geographic literature, where spatial analysis – like elsewhere – can play a role in competently accepting today’s opportunities and challenges, in a constructive dialogue within geography as a whole.

    Description: Perspective restitution is the inverse process of perspective and is therefore rooted in descriptive geometry; when this technique is applied to the restitution of dimensions from photos, it enters the territories of photogrammetry. The position on the border between two disciplines, different but related, has caused the solitude of perspective restitution from photos: rarely mentioned in studies on descriptive geometry, it is completely ignored in those dedicated to photogrammetry. Yet, perspective restitution is the only tool that allows us to reconstruct, from a single image, the 3D layout of a building. In his 1930 book dedicated to 'Metrophotography', Henri Deneux had highlighted, probably for the first time, the possibility of reconstructing, from a single photo, buildings or parts of them damaged by war events (Deneux referred to monuments damaged by the bombings of World War I). Today, digital drawing and modelling tools enable us to overcome many of the difficulties that affected perspective restitution from photos with traditional drawing tools. This volume illustrates the theoretical assumptions and the drawing and modelling techniques that allow us to achieve the 3D reconstruction of buildings and urban scenarios that no longer exist from one or few images.

    Description: Reviewing the research in recent decades on the links between religions and social classes amounts in part to documenting an absence. However, this eclipse is relatively recent because this topic has long been a classic in the social sciences. Has the articulation between religious and class affiliations become so discreet or, on the contrary, so obvious that it now flies under our radars? The eleven qualitative surveys gathered in this volume reopen this field of investigation. C’est-à-dire qui sans cesse se cherche, questionne et expérimente des formes, éprouve des idées, traque au plus près la singularité de la sensation, le tout sur fond d’une histoire politique avec laquelle elle veut toujours être en prise, pour mieux s’y engager, et engager la littérature avec elle. L’articulation du dit et du senti, celle du texte et de l’image, mais aussi la question de la responsabilité morale et politique de qui veut faire œuvre littéraire, sont parmi les thèmes principaux que cette étude se propose d’aborder en tentant de décrire le parcours d’un écrivain qui, depuis bientôt cinquante ans, écrit l’une des œuvres les plus prolifiques de la littérature française contemporaine. Christian Prigent a obtenu en 2018 le Grand Prix de poésie de l’Académie française.

    Description: The volume, dedicated to the 44th International Conference of the Italian Union for Drawing, investigates the theme of ‘Transitions’, which particularly effectively represents our time and the current condition of the discipline of Drawing. The term, beyond its generic meaning of an intermediate stage in a process in which a condition changes from one state to another, has always been used in various fields, from music to geophysics. In fact, the disciplines of drawing have always been confronted with themes and issues relating to transitions from one condition to another. The history of representation tells us of transformations, even epochal ones, relating to ‘drawing’, with all that such transitions entail: suffice it to think of the evolution of forms of representation, of instrumental apparatuses, of the mutability of supports, of the analogical-digital transition underway, of the new modes of communication on platforms, of the hypertrophic offer of images also on the net that confirms Guy Debord’s intuitions relating to the new spectacularisation of society. Similarly, representation triggers transitions in the prefiguration and communication of design, the anticipation and foreshadowing of future events.The challenges posed by the digital pose open questions whose scope can only be glimpsed, such as the relationship between drawing and the act of modelling, and the construction of new paradigms of visual language and communication. ‘Transitions’, almost implicitly, points to possible futures, the evolution of technique and the search for new modes of expression; at the same time, however, it can suggest silences and reflections in a process of connection between history, theory, criticism and construction.

    Description: The 43rd UID conference, held in Genova, takes up the theme of ‘Dialogues’ as practice and debate on many fundamental topics in our social life, especially in these complex and not yet resolved times. The city of Genova offers the opportunity to ponder on the value of comparison and on the possibilities for the community, naturally focused on the aspects that concern us, as professors, researchers, disseminators of knowledge, or on all the possibile meanings of the discipline of representation and its dialogue with ‘others’, which we have broadly catalogued in three macro areas: History, Semiotics, Science / Technology.     Description: The volume draws attention to some elements of ambiguity in the Italian Petrarchism of the 16th century, with insights also into the early 17th century. In particular, the book analyses: the debate on some contradictory or at least problematic aspects of Petrarch’s statements on love; the tension between literary artificiality and ostentation of sincerity in love letters; the ambiguity between sacred and profane in the encomiastic field, with special reference to the metaphor of the ‘temple’ in the so-called ‘temples of poems’. The path here proposed offers an idea of Petrarchism as a phenomenon less rigid and stereotyped than usually perceived. Its ambiguities or even contradictions can be subjects of debate, without necessarily taking the path of anti-petrarchism and parodic deformation.

Les articles et les discours médiatiques ont foisonné sur les mobilisations sociales et politiques, les résultats des élections d’octobre 2011, les démêlés avec la justice de militants et d’artistes. Cependant, si la révolution puis la victoire électorale des islamistes ont placé la Tunisie au centre des actualités internationales, les relations entre les artistes et les institutions autoritaires, les conditions socio-économiques de création et les rapports de sexe dans les mondes de l’art demeurent inconnus. Fondé sur une longue enquête de terrain, cet ouvrage comble ces manques en menant une analyse détaillée de l’univers littéraire tunisien et des rapports sociaux de sexe qui le traversent jusqu’à la révolution. Il ôte à la Tunisie, souvent présentée comme à part, son statut d’exception. Il rend enfin intelligibles, au-delà du cas de ce pays, les manières dont se reproduisent les rapports de sexe et les modes de domination en contexte autoritaire.

    Description: La passion de l’unité : tel semble avoir été l’un des principaux moteurs de l’activité diplomatique et intellectuelle du cardinal Nicolas de Cues (1401-1464). Grande figure de l’humanisme naissant, ce dernier n’a de cesse de promouvoir la paix religieuse et d’en penser les fondements théoriques dans une époque troublée : deux de ses grands traités, La Paix de la foi, Le Tableau ou la vision de Dieu, écrits en 1453, année de la chute de Constantinople, présentent ainsi un étonnant contrepoint à la gravité des événements. Héritier tardif de toute la théologie négative chrétienne, le penseur croit reconnaître en un Dieu ineffable le principe et l’instrument de la concorde à l’œuvre dans le monde, jusque dans les rapports entre les hommes de cultures et de croyances diverses. Les textes qui composent cet ouvrage sont autant de contributions méthodologiques diverses à la compréhension de ce qui justifie et éclaire un tel irénisme religieux et philosophique. Fondés sur l’analyse des rapports entre l’unité, principe et fin de l’être, du connaître et de l’agir - la concorde -, et les capacités conjecturales de la pensée humaine à saisir cette unité en Dieu, ils tentent d’éprouver la cohérence et l’intérêt des propositions philosophiques de Nicolas de Cues dans les différents champs qu’elles traversent : l’ecclésiologie, la littérature utopique, l’esthétique, la métaphysique, la connaissance symbolique, les mathématiques.

L’esperienza nasce dalla volontà di progettare e condividere un percorso di realizzazione di programmi di formazione sulla cittadinanza attiva e partecipata, oltre che sulla prevenzione e sul superamento di tutte le forme di discriminazione e di intolleranza, tramite l’utilizzo di metodologie che possano essere trasversalmente contestualizzate all’interno della formazione scolastica, di quella universitaria e della formazione delle professionalità educative e sociali in generale. L’approccio di ricerca-azione e l’asse Associazioni-Scuola-Università si ritrova nell’ossatura dell’intero volume che, ad una prima parte di orientamento teorico in cui ci si sofferma sugli elementi cardine del nostro discorso pedagogico (intercultura, integrazione, narrazione), fa seguire altre tre sezioni a carattere operativo-metodologico descritte da tutti gli attori protagonisti del progetto.

    Description: « Le mythe est le pas par lequel l’individu sort hors de la psychologie des masses », a écrit Freud. Une lecture juxtalinéaire de L’homme Moïse et la religion monothéiste montre comment l’invention des deux Moïse et du meurtre du premier fournit à Freud un instrument mythique. Cet instrument lui permet de s’écarter des cultures monothéistes juive et chrétienne, tout en y demeurant, et de devenir leur analyste. Ce faisant, il déploie les organisations défensives qu’elles imposent ainsi que les aliénations qu’elles fomentent. Freud enrichit aussi la métapsychologie individuelle, celles du clivage du je et de l’idéal du je, entre autres. Il analyse en effet comment le dieu leader capture et réduit l’idéal du je des croyants, tout en installant chez eux un clivage. L’homme Moïse apparaît ainsi comme un grand texte sur le narcissisme et sur les Constructions dans l’analyse. Cette étude prolonge des travaux antérieurs de l’auteur sur la « psychologie des masses », que Freud a proposée, et qui demeure mal comprise et peu exploitée.

    Description: Lorsque l'article Genève paraît dans l'Encyclopédie, Rousseau publie une Lettre à d'Alembert sur son article Genève, réponse foisonnante et virulente qui traite aussi bien du clergé, des mœurs, de l'honneur, des lois, que des spectacles ou des divertissements qui conviennent au peuple genevois. Pourquoi prend-il ces questions tellement à cœur ? En dépit de ses origines genevoises revendiquées, on ne lui a pas confié la rédaction de l'article. D'Alembert, en s'en chargeant personnellement, sait qu'il attise une polémique. Son Discours préliminaire de l'Encyclopédie visait déjà à réfuter le Discours sur les sciences et les arts. L'article sur Genève présente la cité calviniste comme un exemple de liberté politique et religieuse mais critique des restes d'obscurantisme que la lumière philosophique doit dissiper : il suggère des réformes, notamment la levée de l'interdiction d'un théâtre permanent. D'Alembert imagine ce qu'il nomme une « cité philosophe », où fleuriraient à la fois la liberté de la république et les raffinements culturels des grandes monarchies. Or ce projet résume tout ce que Rousseau, depuis le premier Discours, dénonce comme une illusion. Sa Lettre approfondit la démonstration : le théâtre comme école de l'hypocrisie, le bel esprit, la civilité telle qu'on la conçoit à Paris sont inconciliables avec les mœurs de véritables citoyens. Ses thèses sur les spectacles ne sont qu'un aspect de sa réflexion sur la modernité : à quelles conditions la république est-elle possible ? Comment lier adéquatement morale, esthétique et politique ? Les études réunies dans ce volume éclairent les enjeux et les logiques complexes d'un texte que son auteur, alors malade et croyant vivre ses derniers jours, a rédigé comme s'il devait s'agir de son testament philosophique.

    Description: L’implication de l’État dans la vie privée pose problème : les individus ont davantage de droits que par le passé, mais certains de leurs comportements, jugés problématiques pour la collectivité, justifient un interventionnisme renouvelé, dans lequel acteurs privés et mécanismes de marché occupent une place croissante. En tension entre libéralisme et normalisation, cette action publique participe aux recompositions des rapports sociaux, entre les classes sociales, entre les genres, ainsi qu’entre la population majoritaire et les personnes racisées. Objet de vifs débats et de réformes récurrentes, la régulation par le droit des séparations conjugales est un observatoire précieux de ces recompositions, ici analysées à partir de trois enquêtes collectives, qualitatives et quantitatives, menées des deux côtés de l’Atlantique. En France comme au Québec, l’accès aux procédures, les interactions avec les professionnel.les et l’encadrement des modes de vie sont les trois dimensions constitutives du gouvernement de la vie privée. Cependant, chacun des contextes n’articule pas de la même manière inégalités de classe et inégalités de genre. En scrutant la production institutionnelle des inégalités privées, cet ouvrage invite à imaginer des voies alternatives, dans la sphère privée comme dans la sphère publique, pour que la politique des droits tienne ses promesses émancipatrices.

    Description: The ISMU annual Report on migration enters its 27th edition in 2022. Over time, the Report has become a useful reference for people working on migration, both within and outside Italy. This edition analyzes both the impact of the pandemic on migration flows and immigrants and the consequences of the Afghan crisis on migration. As the health emergency subsided in the second half of 2021, public interest on migration resurfaced along with the challenges that migration poses to Italy and the European Union. In addition to the traditional areas of interest (health, work, education, and the legal framework) and to statistical aspects (ISMU estimates that 5,576,000 foreigners live permanently in Italy as of 1st January 2021), the 27th edition of the Report devotes particular attention to the attitudes and orientations of Italian people towards migration, as well as to the experience of migrant women in terms of discrimination and positive valorization.     Description: The book traces the main stages of third mission and social impact assessment, in the context of the (recent) history of higher education and research assessment in Italy, starting with a review of the transformation of the relationship between the University and the society. Several social drives are leading the university to a series of transformations, at the national, European and international level. The requirement to use transparency criteria and the associated returns of research spending (in accountability) has become a fundamental issue in informing government, business, citizens and society on the achieved results. The introduction of social impact assessment frameworks is also advancing research agendas towards socially relevant domains, to provide solutions in international competitiveness, social welfare, sustainability and other grand challenges. A terminological and conceptual shift is occurring from a traditional concept of technology transfer and third mission towards a broader meaning of knowledge exchange and co-creation between universities and extra-academic actors and the impact generated. However, this shift towards a transdisciplinary, trans-epistemic and inclusive evaluation framework poses new challenges to capture this complexity, requiring the adoption of new methods and tools presented in this book. The international literature and debate on practices are vital combined with trial-and-error approaches, community involvement, and targeted pilot studies. Beyond controversies, resistances, and easily contrived enthusiasms, this is what this volume tries to investigate.

    Description: Climate change and the need to reduce energy consumption in buildings are key topics in the political, scientific, economic and cultural debate. Since the academic year, 2010-2011, we wanted to make a debate and also our contribution with the first edition of the Master in Materials and Innovative Techniques for Sustainable Construction (MeTIES) University of Palermo together with the University Consortium for the University of Western Sicily and the Mediterranean Basin (UNISOM). The main objective of this Master is to form a professional generation who knows how to master new technologies and to rethink the way to "build". All the students of the master, in different editions, have had the opportunity to improve skills acquired during the course in workplace. The aim was to contribute to the debate on possible ways to pursue sustainable development through the training of "operators" who have the ability to identify, develop and propose possible and concrete solutions for the energy efficiency of buildings.     Description: Lors d’une conférence prononcée à Cracovie en 1987, Murray Rothbard dénonce avec virulence l’« invasion » de la pensée herméneutique dans la philosophie et les sciences économiques nord-américaines. Représentant éminent de l’École autrichienne aux États-Unis, il entend préserver la pureté et l’efficience du dogme libéral en affichant son extrémisme.     Description: The volume, dedicated to the 44th International Conference of the Italian Union for Drawing, investigates the theme of ‘Transitions’, which particularly effectively represents our time and the current condition of the discipline of Drawing. The term, beyond its generic meaning of an intermediate stage in a process in which a condition changes from one state to another, has always been used in various fields, from music to geophysics. In fact, the disciplines of drawing have always been confronted with themes and issues relating to transitions from one condition to another. The history of representation tells us of transformations, even epochal ones, relating to ‘drawing’, with all that such transitions entail: suffice it to think of the evolution of forms of representation, of instrumental apparatuses, of the mutability of supports, of the analogical-digital transition underway, of the new modes of communication on platforms, of the hypertrophic offer of images also on the net that confirms Guy Debord’s intuitions relating to the new spectacularisation of society. Similarly, representation triggers transitions in the prefiguration and communication of design, the anticipation and foreshadowing of future events.The challenges posed by the digital pose open questions whose scope can only be glimpsed, such as the relationship between drawing and the act of modelling, and the construction of new paradigms of visual language and communication. ‘Transitions’, almost implicitly, points to possible futures, the evolution of technique and the search for new modes of expression; at the same time, however, it can suggest silences and reflections in a process of connection between history, theory, criticism and construction.

    Description: Augmented Reality (AR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are technological domains that closely interact with space at architectural and urban scale in the broader ambits of cultural heritage and innovative design. The growing interest is perceivable in many fields of knowledge, supported by the rapid development and advancement of theory and application, software and devices, fueling a pervasive phenomenon within our daily lives. These technologies demonstrate to be best exploited when their application and other information and communication technology (ICT) advancements achieve a continuum. In particular, AR defines an alternative path to observe, analyze and communicate space and artifacts. Besides, AI opens future scenarios in data processing, redefining the relationship between man and computer. In the last few years, the AR/AI expansion and relationship have raised deep transdisciplinary speculation. The research experiences have shown many cross-relations in Architecture and Design domains. Representation studies could arise an international debate as a convergence place of multidisciplinary theoretical and applicative contributions related to architecture, city, environment, tangible and intangible Cultural Heritage. This book collects 66 papers and identify eight lines of research that may guide future developments.

    Description: Things – and even more so clothes and fabrics – possess a further way of being, a sort of cavity in which traces and footprints remain of those who use them, have used them or created them, have desired or chosen them. In addition, in their space, we find our ability to give word to their presence and ours. Clothes possess the particular ability of taking us into the world scene with our body, of getting us out of a condition of disappearance, subtraction or naked intimacy. This text recovers the poetic sense of our bonds with an original feeling that lies in the experience of the body, its symbolic values, the strength and voice of our bonds with the garments and the fabrics of the world. Clothes, from everyday objects, become world again when we learn to glimpse in them the chance of recognizing ourselves, of awakening their history and ours, of retracing and interweaving those subtle threads that allow us to speak the language of belongings. The voices in this plural text are placed within a large and durable research facility that is part of a philosophical approach to the experience aesthetics and the poetic-metaphorical aspect of existence. This book is aimed at those who have already tried or want to try to subtract things from their apparent silence, going through new educational sentences, aimed at the history of ourselves as well as the history of others, going through an everyday life pedagogy that can’t wait to have a voice, in order to create horizons of meaning that dress up and dress us up with intimacy when we realize that we know how to give - and live - new space to what is next, so close that it becomes - sometimes - invisible.

    Description: At the crossroads of urban sociology and economic sociology, this book focuses on the competition unfolding in the urban space of Dakar between different categories of actors: groups of deterritorialized Chinese involved in trading activities, young local cobblers and street vendors. These actors of a globalization “from below”, who discreetly shape the public space, upset the hierarchical order imposed by the wage society, by participating in the constitution of new economic and social hierarchies and new relationships of power. This research is also an invitation to go beyond the usual clichés regarding these local economic actors (referred to by the derogatory terms “baol-baol”, “kaw-kaw”) by focusing on the variety of their skills, the diversity of their backgrounds and their social and professional identities. This book is intended for social scientists interested in the forms of “non-hegemonic globalization” in the African context and in small-scale urban market production and its recent developments. Cina Guèye holds a doctorate in sociology from the University of Gaston Berger (Senegal) and the University of Lumière Lyon 2. Cet ouvrage cherche à donner plus d’épaisseur à leur présence dans la société française en s’intéressant aux premières d’entre elles : les Algériennes venues au lendemain de la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Qui sont ces femmes ? Pourquoi traversent-elles la Méditerranée aux pires moments de la répression du nationalisme algérien ? Comment trouvent-elles leur place dans la société qui les entoure et leur rôle dans la guerre d’indépendance menée aussi en métropole ? Grâce à une enquête orale approfondie, on les entend répondre à ces questions, on les découvre également au détour d’un fonds photographique public ou privé, dans le secret des archives judiciaires et policières, administratives et médiatiques. Leur mémoire inspire une parole vive et permet aux archives de parler à leur tour. On comprend alors l’histoire partagée qui les amène à prendre parti dans une guerre souvent fratricide, à s’attacher à l’Algérie naissante autant qu’à trouver la forme d’une intégration singulière, loin des débats actuels qui les méconnaissent obstinément. L’écriture de cette histoire résulte ainsi d’une écoute, d’une patience et d’une réflexion sur les outils, sur les méthodes aptes à rendre visible la matière complexe des parcours de ces Algériennes pendant cinquante ans, en s’efforçant d’en préserver la vie.     Description: Scepticism is a philosophical current in which doubt is neither a discomfort to be overcome, nor an artifice located at the beginning of an investigation aiming at its own overcoming, but a way of speaking and of standing in existence. What does such a position imply on the anthropological level? That contrary to those who have thought of doubt as a preparation for faith or for the refoundation of science, it is more natural to doubt than to believe? The chapters in this volume examine how modern sceptical doubt, born of its implementation in Montaigne's Essays, far from being a negative disposition of mind that leads to despair, has contributed to revalorizing opinion and belief in a regime of uncertainty, to rehabilitating the imagination and the senses, while promoting other uses of reason. The book is aimed at all readers who are interested in the renewal of the conception of philosophy through doubt, whether it be its discursive practices or its values. It also invites us to reflect on the link between the philosophical discourse on humanity and the human sciences, a link that the sceptical substitution of an anthropology of the relation to the metaphysical approach to humanity has made possible.

    Description: Indian contemporary art has become fully integrated into global institutional and commercial dynamics in the decades following India's economic liberalization in the 1990s. Bombay, which has been a commercial capital and cultural crossroads in Asia since the end of the nineteenth century, has become the main metropolis for the Indian contemporary art market. Through this industry, which is more discreet than Bollywood but just as globalized, this book invites us to discover – or rediscover – Bombay/Mumbai. Taking the art gallery and museum district in the south of the city as her starting point, the author draws us into a complex geography of contemporary art that highlights multiple networks of workshops and invisible workers, installed in the industrial districts where the artworks are made. Based on ten years of fieldwork in India, this research opens up a critical analysis of the cultural metropolises of the South, paying attention to the spaces and actors outside the framework, as well as to the power relations linked to local and global socioeconomic contexts.

    Description: Analyzing with an ethnographic approach The Wire, one of the most important TV series on American ghettos, to understand and question the sociological perspective that emerges from the series, positioning it into the broader scientific debate. This is, in a nutshell, the work presented in the book It's all in the Game, the outcome of a laboratorial research activity carried out in 2020 by students and teachers of the Sociology of Communities and Urban Neighborhoods class, at the University of Bologna. The text is structured into four chapters, resulting from the four topics used to analysis the TV series: forms of social capital, the relationship between structural forces- culture of poverty and individual agency, neighborhood effects mechanism and the relationship between statistics and political action. Four subjects that are the core of many neighborhood- studies related researches and on which the TV series makes a clear stand. We analyzed those topics through a critical perspective, not considering them as a truth about ghettos, but as a very precise way of thinking about life in the American suburbs.

    Description: How and when did the world enter the system we call “capitalism”? This is the question at the heart of the Brenner Debate, named after the American historian Robert Brenner. Robert Brenner’s works have exerted a profound influence on the development of Marxist thought since the 1970’s, elevating this debate among historians of capitalism to great significance. In the first part, François Allisson and Nicolas Brisset trace and contextualize the key stages of the debate, which led to Robert Brenner’s seminal work. The authors demonstrate that one’s approach to the history of capitalism is closely linked to one’s view of the economic system. The second part contains a previously unpublished translation of Robert Brenner’s 2007 article, « Propriété et progrès : quand Adam Smith faisait fausse route », which is according to its author the definitive version of his 1976 argument. This book is an introduction to the thought of an economist who is relatively unknown in the French-speaking world but who deserves our attention in view of his significant contributions to Anglo-Saxon historiography.

    Description: The volume, dedicated to the 44th International Conference of the Italian Union for Drawing, investigates the theme of ‘Transitions’, which particularly effectively represents our time and the current condition of the discipline of Drawing. The term, beyond its generic meaning of an intermediate stage in a process in which a condition changes from one state to another, has always been used in various fields, from music to geophysics. In fact, the disciplines of drawing have always been confronted with themes and issues relating to transitions from one condition to another. The history of representation tells us of transformations, even epochal ones, relating to ‘drawing’, with all that such transitions entail: suffice it to think of the evolution of forms of representation, of instrumental apparatuses, of the mutability of supports, of the analogical-digital transition underway, of the new modes of communication on platforms, of the hypertrophic offer of images also on the net that confirms Guy Debord’s intuitions relating to the new spectacularisation of society. Similarly, representation triggers transitions in the prefiguration and communication of design, the anticipation and foreshadowing of future events.The challenges posed by the digital pose open questions whose scope can only be glimpsed, such as the relationship between drawing and the act of modelling, and the construction of new paradigms of visual language and communication. ‘Transitions’, almost implicitly, points to possible futures, the evolution of technique and the search for new modes of expression; at the same time, however, it can suggest silences and reflections in a process of connection between history, theory, criticism and construction.

    Description: This volume concerns the role of the Italian schools, the associations and their actors to counteract educational dispersion and encourage the inclusion of minors with a migratory background. The work is part of a collaboration project between Inapp (National Institute for Public Policy Analysis) and Aiig (Italian Association of Geography Teachers) aimed to map the “Analysis, training and territorial activities for preventing/countering the risks of educational dispersion of young people with a migratory background” (June 2022 - March 2023). This collaboration stems from a program agreement between Inapp and Ministry of Labor and Social Policies - General Directorate of Immigration, on “Citizen Integration Policies of Third Countries”. The first part, focused on theoretical aspects, develops the idea of a school as welcoming community, in which disciplines such as geography and tools such as digital teaching can be significant resources to draw on. Related to this, a specific focus on the socio-cultural development in the border and internal areas is underlined. The second part collects the empirical evidences emerging from some territorial laboratories and training courses organized by Inapp and Aiig in various Italian regions. These evidences represent the main results of a qualitative survey on risks of educational dropout of young people with a migratory background. A wealth of proposals together with successful and critical factors is unraveled. In the last section of the volume, these various and original practices are reported by teachers, school managers, and operators, representatives of voluntary organisations, associations and third sector. The idea was to carry out the research not on the actors of inclusion, but with them, giving voice to their experiences. It was a sort of an ideal journey from the north of Italy, where the presence of students with a migratory background is higher, to the south, considered the land of their arrival and transit.

There are many topics which refer to three macro sessions: - Witnessing (signs and history) - Communicating (signs and semiotics) - Experimenting (signs and sciences) Thanks to the different points of view, an exceptional resource of our disciplinary area, we want to try to outline the prevailing theoretical-operational synergies, the collaborative lines of an instrumental nature, the recent updates of the repertoires of images that attest and nourish the relations among representation, history, semiotics, sciences.
