    Description: The 12th Slavic Linguistics Society Annual Meeting organised by the Fran Ramovš Institute of the Slovenian Language (Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts), Department of Slavistics, Department of Slovenian Studies and the Department of Comparative and General Linguistics (Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana) held in Ljubljana between 21 and 24 September 2017 hosted a remarkable 100-odd Slavicists from Northern America, Europe, Russia, South Korea and Japan. The multifariousness of linguistic enquiry and methodology characterising the resultant book of abstracts celebrates the overall importance and responsibility of methodological pluralism that is the driving force behind the constructive dialogue fostered at any scientific meeting.
    Description: Publikacija je zbornik povzetkov prispevkov 12. letnega srečanja Združenja za slovansko jezikoslovje (Slavic Linguistics Society) (Ljubljana, 21.–24. september 2017, v organizaciji Inštituta za slovenski jezik Frana Ramovša Znanstvenoraziskovalnega centra Slovenske akademije znanosti in umetnosti ter Oddelka za slavistiko, Oddelka za slovenistiko in Oddelka za primerjalno in splošno jezikoslovje Filozofske fakultete Univerze v Ljubljani). Zbornik vsebuje okrog 100 prispevkov, katerih avtorji so jezikoslovci iz Severne Amerike, Evrope, Rusije, Južne Koreje in Japonske, ki se ukvarjajo z znanstvenim preučevanjem slovanskih jezikov. V prispevkih so v duhu omogočanja enakih možnosti vsem in ohranjanja metodološkega pluralizma v znanosti zastopane različne jezikoslovne poddiscipline, teoretični modeli in metodološki pristopi, saj je glavni namen delovanja združevanja prav vzpostavljanje tvornega dialoga med njimi.

    Krasoslovje v razvojnih izzivih na krasu = Karstology and Development Challenges on Karst (2022)

    Description: A good knowledge of the natural and cultural heritage of karst is a precondition for the rational planning of life on it. We try to organize the knowledge to make it as useful as possible for planners. We are involved in individual projects related to the regional planning, water supply systems, the construction of transportation infrastructure, the closure of landfills in karst areas, the collection of data on karst caves and their protection, karst ecology and determining the extent of human influence on the karst underground. A new book series Karstology and development challenges on karst was designed to present the results of completed and new projects to a broader public.The first book with the subtitle Water contains selected directly applicable research studies on karst waters, their characteristics, endangerment, and protection. It is composed of ten chapters, which can be grouped into three main themes. In the introduction the importance, characteristics and vulnerability of karst aquifers are presented,then various case studies of pollution and endangerment are described (traffic, landfills, military objects, flooding), and at the end some guidelines for the protection of karst water sources are summarized. The book is a bilingual publication in Slovene and English. It is aimed at a broad circle of users, researchers, students and planners.
    Description: Dobro poznavanje naravne in kulturne dediščine krasa je pogoj za smiselno načrtovanje življenja na njem. Pridobljeno temeljno znanje skušamo krasoslovci urediti tako, da je kar čimbolj uporabno tudi načrtovalcem. Vključeni smo v posamezne projekte regionalnega načrtovanja, oskrbe z vodo, gradnje prometnic, zapiranja odlagališč na krasu, zbiranja podatkov o kraških jamah in njihovega varovanja, kraške ekologije in ugotavljanja človekovega vpliva na kras. Za predstavitev svežih izsledkov širši javnosti smo oblikovali serijo Krasoslovje v razvojnih izzivih na krasu. V prvi knjigi s podnaslovom Voda smo združili izbrane neposredno uporabne študije o kraških vodah, njihovih značilnostih, ogroženosti in varovanju. Sestavljena je iz desetih poglavij, ki jih lahko razdelimo v tri sklope. V uvodu so predstavljeni pomen, značilnosti in ranljivost kraških vodonosnikov, sledijo različni primeri ogroženosti kraških vod (prometnice, odlagališča odpadkov, vojaški objekti, poplave), na koncu pa je zbranih še nekaj smernic za varovanje kraških vodnih virov.

    Description: V knjigi, ki prinaša celovito predstavitev naših visokogorskih jezer, oceno njihovega ekološkega stanja in razlago dogajanj v njih skozi zgodovino, so zbrani rezultati več kot desetletnih raziskav 18 avtorjev. V delu je podan geografski opis in nastanek visokogorskih jezer, hidrološke povezave med njimi ter fizikalne in kemijske lastnosti jezerske vode. Opisano je življenje v njih in spremembe, ki so jih jezera doživela v zadnjih stoletjih, opozorjeno pa je tudi na problem onesnaževanja visokogorja.

    Occupational Safety and Health of Posted Workers (2022)

    Description: The papers contained in this booklet were presented at the transnational conference “Employment/Working Conditions, Occupational Safety and Health of Posted Workers” in Ljubljana, Slovenia (15 February 2017). The conference brought together experts (researchers and practitioners) from several European countries to discuss the existing and new challenges related to OSH (occupational safety and health), labour, and working conditions of posted workers. The conference served as the launch event of the POOSH project, financed by the European Comission (Programme EaSI PROGRESS) and led by Dr. Kristina Toplak from the Slovenian Migration Institute at ZRC SAZU. The booklet is covering the topic of the OSH of posted workers from several angles. The first part is framed around contributions given by researchers working in the field of labor mobility, with the focus on the occupational safety and health of posted workers. The second part contains contributions from practitioners working in NGOs, trade unions or Ministries of Labour who presented their work as well as discussed national and transnational legislations related to the OSH of posted workers.
    Description: V knjižici so predstavljeni prispevki z mednarodne konference »Zaposlitveni/delovni pogoji ter varnost in zdravje pri delu napotenih delavcev«, ki se je odvijala 15. februarja v Ljubljani. Na konferenci so sodelovali raziskovalci in strokovnjaki iz več evropskih držav, ki so razpravljali o obstoječih in novih izzivih povezanih z varnostjo in zdravjem pri delu ter o delovnih pogojih napotenih delavcev. Konferenca je del POOSH projekta, ki ga vodi Kristina Toplak, financira pa ga Evropska komisija (Program EaSI PROGRESS). V knjižici je tematika napotenih delavcev osvetljena z več zornih kotov. Prvi del temelji na prispevkih raziskovalcev, ki se ukvarjajo z mobilnostjo in delovnimi migracijami, s poudarkom na tematiki varnosti in zdravja pri delu napotenih delavcev. Drugi del vsebuje prispevke strokovnjakov, predvsem predstavnikov nevladnih organizacijah, sindikatov ali ministerstev, ki so v prispevkih predstavili svoje delo in razpravljali o nacionalnih in nadnacionalnih zakonodajah, ki se nanašajo na napotene delavce ter na področje varnosti in zdravja pri delu.

    Description: Izsledki raziskave slovenskega oblačilnega izrazja v Kanalski dolini, ki je v sodelovanju s Slovenskim kulturnim središčem Planika Kanalska dolina potekala v letih 2003–2007, so v monografiji urejeni v trijezični (slovensko-italijansko-nemški) konkordančni izrazijski slovar. Začetna, slovensko-italijanska razdelka vsebujeta prepis narečnega besedila Oblačila naših dedkov in babic glavne informantke Marie Moschitz, obogaten s slikovnim gradivom, in slovarski uvod s predstavitvijo raziskave, prikazom sestave gesel ter seznamom kratic in krajšav. Slovar v celoti temelji na prepisih posnetkov narečnih besedil, urejenih v podatkovno zbirko. Lažje iskanje po slovarju (tudi več- in drugojezičnim uporabnikom) omogočajo knjižnoslovensko-narečni, italijansko-slovenskonarečni in nemško-slovenskonarečni seznam.

    Description: The contributions thematise love to a homeland in groups and individuals who fail to conform to the dominant understanding of patriotism~this often renders them inapt patriots and they are, hence, symbolically deprived of loving their homeland. The authors thematise love for homeland(s) in im/migrants, members of ethnic and sexual minorities, mixed marriage children, anarchists and social critics and activists. The authors and the people depicted stand for understanding and practicing the so-called critical patriotism, a practice best subsumed in the phrase: “use your mind”.
    Description: Prispevki v knjigi tematizirajo ljubezen do domovine pri posameznikih in skupinah, ki ne ustrezajo prevladujočem pojmovanju domoljuba, zaradi česar se jim simbolno odvzame pravica do ljubezni do domovine. Avtorji obravnavajo ljubezen do domovin/e pri izseljencih, priseljencih, pripadnikih etničnih in spolnih manjšin, otrocih iz mešanih zakonov, anarhistih ter družbenih kritikih in aktivistih. Tako avtorji prispevkov kot njihovi akterji se zavzemajo za razumevanje in prakticiranje kritičnega domoljubja, za držo, ki jo najbolje povzemajo besede »misli s svojo glavo«.

    Description: The present volume of proceedings represents the first Slovenian book uniting well-nigh all the humanistic disciplines in a common task: to reflect on the role of scholarly editions in their own field. Moreover, it is the first to reflect systematically on the methodological and ecdotic issues of scholarly editions in the light of the possibilities opening with the electronic presentation of texts. While some humanistic disciplines in Slovenia boast a long tradition of scholarly editions, reaching back to the first half of the 19th century, others have begun to consolidate their editorial standards fairly recently.
    Description: Zbornik o znanstvenih izdajah je prva knjižna publikacija na Slovenskem, namenjena premisleku o sistemskem mestu znanstvenih in kritičnih izdaj besedil v humanističnih vedah, njihovih metodoloških podlag in edicijskih načel. Poglavje Crossing Geographies obravnava pomen migrantk in migracij za globalno širjenje modernizma in pojava avantgardnih umetnostnih gibanj~Pioneers and Organisations predstavlja nekatere pionirke in njihovo vključevanje v stanovske organizacije~The Home govori o položaju žensk med obema vojnama in načinih, kako so skušale preseči družbene omejitve preko notranjega oblikovanja~Representation je posvečen zastopanosti in obravnavi ustvarjalk v publicistiki~Cases from Ireland to Finland prinaša primere uveljavitve ustvarjalk v izrazito moških poklicih~Examining Drawings as Practices of Architectural Design pa z novimi metodološkimi pristopi prinaša vpogled v arhitekturne projekte žensk.Osnova knjige so prispevki, predstavljeni na prvi mednarodni MoMoWo konferenci septembra 2015 na Univerzi v Leidnu, njen namen pa je strokovni in širši javnosti predstaviti pomemben del »anonimne« in zamolčane evropske kulturne dediščine.

    Description: Presented are seven folktales from Resia in northern Italy with a strong Slovene minority. On CD are presented narratives which have been recorded on magnetic tape by Academician Milko Matičetov. Translations from the Resian dialect in Slovene and in Italian language are published in accompanying book. One folk tale was recently recorded by Roberto Dapit in the Resian village of Lischiazze/Liščaci, and has been included in the collection to illustrate contemporary Resian narrative tradition. The tales recorded on the compact disk represent four different language groups of the Resian dialect, namely that of Stolvizza/Solbica, Oseacco/Osojane, San Giorgio/Bila, and Gniva/Njiva. This work was done within the project Zborzbirk.
    Description: Predstavljenih je sedem rezijanskih pravljic: na zgoščenki v govorjeni besedi po magnetofonskih posnetkih akademika Milka Matičetovega, v knjigi pa v slovenskem in italijanskem prevodu. Eno izmed pravljic je nedavno posnel Roberto Dapit v Liščacih v Reziji (Italija), in je vključena v ta izbor zato, da bi pokazali, kako ljudsko pripovedništvo v Reziji še naprej živi. Pravljice, ki jih lahko poslušamo na tej zgoščenki, so bile zbrane iz arhivskih posnetkov in pripovedovane v vseh glavnih rezijanskih jezikovnih področjih oz. predstavljajo štiri različne govorne skupine rezijanskega narečja območij Solbice, Osojan, Bile in Njive. Delo je nastalo v okviru bilateralnega projekta ZBORZBIRK Kulturna dediščina v zbirkah med Alpami in Krasom.

    Description: Skalne oblike so pomembna sled oblikovanja in razvoja površinskih kraških pojavov. Še zlasti bogat je njihov zapis na različnih škrapljah. Razkriva nam številne dejavnike, ki v raznovrstnih razmerah oblikujejo kraško površje na različnih karbonatnih in drugih kamninah. Skušali smo zajeti najbolj značilne skalne oblike in skozi njih najbolj pomembne dejavnike in procese oblikovanja kraškega površja ter načine njihovega raziskovanja in najbolj izrazite primere. Širok spekter vsebine razkriva tudi nabor 49 avtorjev in primeri skalnih oblik s številnih kraških področji sveta.     Description: Modern science started studying the Smlednik Castle over a century and a half ago. However, what might be even more important is the fact that more or less intense conservation works have been carried out at this location for over half a century. Regardless of this there is almost no expert literature on the castle to be found: short papers can be counted on the fingers of one hand, while monograph publications are sought in vain. The situation regarding contributions that promotes cultural heritage is somewhat better. The purpose of the book in front of you is thus clear: to present the history of the research and conservation efforts as well as the findings gained from the latest research in one book.This is the English translation of the original publication in Slovenian Grad Smlednik. Raziskave 2011-2012 published in 2013 as the second issue of the series Monografije CPA. The translation differs from the original in two ways. First, it omits the appendices. Secondly, a chapter on 3D scanning of the Smlednik Castle in 2007 including interactive 3D model is added.

    Description: The few scholarly treatments of Jewish ethnography and folklore studies in Eastern Europe have focused mostly on the collection of folklore materials. But even when Jewish folklore studies in Eastern Europe were still in their infancy, some scholars and authors made important contributions to the theoretical side of the discipline. This book focuses on these contributions and includes both discussion of these early folklorists and translations of some of their key writings. The pioneers of Jewish ethnography and folkloristics dealt with many areas and genres: folk narrative, folk songs, humor and jokes, beliefs and customs, folk medicine, folk art and material culture, and the interplay between folklore and history and between folklore and literature. Most of the research questions they posed continue to engage scholars today, and answers supplied by them remain relevant today and can serve as building blocks for the future.

    Description: The volume Historični seminar 14 ('Historical Seminar 14'), issued in the time of transformed reality of what we knew and took for granted, draws attention to the fact that the image we cultivate of ourselves and our history may sometimes be too simplified to be entirely real. At first, the volume both revises already known chapters of Church history and introduces hitherto unknown ones. Simon Malmenvall’s analysis of the characters of the noble martyrs Boris and Gleb, Jovan Vladimir, and Magnus Erlendsson shows how the stories of their martyrdom had a nation-building function. Celeste McNamara’s article on Giovanni Barbarigo introduces the unusual and less well-known topic of seventeenth-century missions. Monika Deželak Trojar analyzes in detail Johann Ludwig Schönleben’s German and Latin Lenten sermons. Aleš Maver’s article discusses why Latin disappeared so quickly from Slovenian churches after the Second Vatican Council. On the other hand, the pre-modern religious practices of nature worshippers in Slovenia are discussed by Cirila Toplak. Modern times and also more political issues are examined by Tomaž Ivešić who focuses on the increase in ethnic tensions in Yugoslavia in the early 1970s, while Aleksandar Takovski traces the historical representation of heroic figures in four former Yugoslav countries.

Da bi bolje razumeli sedanjost, je treba (na novo) ovrednotiti tudi preteklost in sedem zanimivih člankov domačih in tujih raziskovalcev, ki so bili najprej predstavljeni v ciklu predavanj Historični seminar na ZRC SAZU, zgodovino prikazuje v novi luči. Tomaž Ivešić je pisal o zaostrovanju nacionalnega vprašanja v Jugoslaviji v začetku sedemdesetih let, Aleksander Takovski pa o arhetipskih junakih in zlobnežih v Sloveniji, Hrvaški, Makedoniji in Srbiji.

    Description: The volume Historični seminar 13 ('Historical Seminar 13') offers a selection of articles that have been “filtered” through the cycle of lectures over the past two years. These articles were written by ten researchers from Slovenia, Austria, Croatia, and Germany. Historični seminar 13 continues to examine its origin in the humanities by looking at history and describing the past, with perspectives that are also directed toward other disciplines: geography, comparative literature, ethnomusicology, and cultural anthropology. However, it always maintains a critical distance, which is emphasized in various ways because many of the articles question previous assumptions of past studies and their subjective points of departure. In this manner, this volume makes an important contribution to critical thought about scholarship in general and about the future tasks of the humanities and the social sciences. At the same time, it adds an increasingly current ethical touch to much of its material. Historični seminar 13 is freely available online.
    Description: Historični seminar 13 prinaša izbor devetih razprav, ki jih je prispevalo deset slovenskih, avstrijskih, hrvaških in nemških strokovnjakov. V interdisciplinarnem prepletu humanističnih in družboslovnih ved izstopajo različni pogledi na zgodovino, v motrenje tega, kar je bilo, s pogledi, usmerjenimi tudi v geografijo, komparativistiko, etnomuzikologijo, kulturno antropologijo. A nikakor ne brez kritične distance, ki je v pričujoči monografiji na različne načine še posebej poudarjena, saj številni članki preizprašujejo predpostavke do sedaj že opravljenih raziskav in nujno subjektivna izhodišča, ki posameznike vodijo pri njihovih ugotovitvah (in jih seveda najdemo povsod, le da so v humanističnih vedah morda še bolj na očeh). Na ta način Historični seminar 13 lahko pomembno prispeva h kritični misli o znanosti ter o prihodnjih nalogah humanistike in družboslovja, obenem pa marsikateri vsebini dodaja tudi vse bolj aktualno etično noto.     Description: Go Girls! When Slovenian Women Left Home is not about researching and writing only about female emigration, some kind of “women’s migration”, but is among other things focused on understanding the complexity, multi-facetedness and of course the multi-gendered aspect of migrations. This can only be done by focusing on a missing but constitutive part of migration processes – the migration of women. Therefore, to “make visible” that which was, as the title of one of the most famous feminist books says, “hidden from history”, or in the words of the best-known Slovenian researcher of “women’s history”, to “write women” into the body of knowledge on migration and into knowledge in general. This “writing of women”, must not be just a matter of supplementing and placing into context previously overlooked events, phenomena, and occurrences, but in fact must be a project of critically sifting through the entire body of migration studies and thereby reproducing gender-determined knowledge.

    Description: In the book are presented studies of 18 renowned researchers focussing on the verbal aspects of everyday magic, placing in the centre the richest and most poetic manifestation of verbal magic – the charm or incantatio. Incantations are in Europe well spread folklore genre, which contain very old magical elemrnts. The book covers wide spectrum of regions, from United Kingdom to Russia and Iran, and includes also Slovenia. The researchers have devoted their attention to phenomenological and theoretical studies of incantatio, and have discussed various topics, from the origin of charms and ancient European magical practices, to the receptions and diffusions of different types of charms.

    Description: The CHERPLAN project (CHERPLAN stands for “Enhancement of Cultural Heritage through Environmental Planning and Management”) aims to provide a strong basis for ensuring compatibility and synergy between cultural heritage conservation and socioeconomic growth by fostering the adoption of a modern environmental planning approach throughout southeast Europe (SEE). The aim of environmental planning is to integrate traditional urban/spatial planning with the concerns of environmentalism to ensure sustainable development~when innovatively applied to cultural heritage sites, environmental planning’s comprehensive perspective can be regarded as composed of three spheres: the built and historical environment, the socioeconomic and cultural environment, and the biophysical environment.
    Description: Knjiga Upravljanje območij s kulturno dediščino v Jugovzhodni Evropi, kot eden od rezultatov projekta CHERPLAN, naslavlja ključna vprašanja upravljanja območij s kulturno dediščino. Predstavlja osnovni okvir, ki sta ga na tem področju izoblikovala Unesco in ICOMOS, ter usmeritve za dvajset različnih izzivov upravljanja, kjer vsakega pospremimo z uvodom, priporočili in primeri dobrih praks. Knjiga tako zagotavlja praktične informacije za uveljavljanje okoljskega planiranja na območjih s kulturno dediščino v Jugovzhodni Evropi, pri čemer je bil del priporočil pripravljen znotraj pilotnih območij, del pa smo jih prevzeli od drugje. V obeh primerih predstavljajo priporočila in dobre prakse preverjena lokalna znanja, saj so jih v opisanih primerih uspešno uporabili.

    Description: The monograph Drobci ledenodobnega okolja (“Fragments of Ice Age environments”) presents a compilation of seventeen chapters in which experts from different scientific fields discuss specific topics related to the Ice Age in Europe. Ten of them are devoted to the presentation, analysis and interpretation of palaeontological data concerning various large mammal species ranging from mastodon and mammoth to the cave hyena, ibex, cave lion and bears, with the emphasis being placed on the cave bear. Several chapters address the topic of Last Glacial climatic conditions in the Southeastern Alps by studying fossil micromammal and palaeobotanical remains as well as geoarchaeologiocal data. A special article is devoted to a comprehensive review of previous analysis of the bone flute from Divje babe I, but includes also new musicological research findings on the extraordinary technical capabilities of this oldest musical instrument. The concluding chapter presents a study of old manuscripts and printed sources, providing some interesting insights into the discovery of one of the most significant palaeontological sites in Slovenia - the cave of Mokriška jama.The monograph is dedicated to the anniversary of the prominent researcher of the Slovenian Palaeolithic - Ivan Turk. His work, main achievements and selected bibliography are briefly presented in the introductory chapter.
    Description: V monografiji je zbranih 17 samostojnih člankov, ki jih je prispevalo 23 domačih in tujih avtorjev, v počastitev jubileja eminentnega raziskovalca slovenskega paleolitika – Ivana Turka. Podani, analizirani in interpretirani so podatki s področja paleonotologije, geoarheologije in arheologije, njihovo skupno težišče pa so nova spoznanja o ledeni dobi na evropskih tleh.

    Description: The present book is volume of conference proceedings of the scientific meeting dedicated to the founder of modern Slovenian musicology, Dragotin Cvetko, and organised by the Institute of Musicology of the Scientific Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts with the financial support of the Slovenian Research Agency and the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts. The papers, organised in four linked and intertwining subject sections (Dragotin Cvetko – life and work~Metamorphoses of national music historiographies~European music historiographies – selected chapters~and Musicology – from national towards global) are accompanied in the present volume by some basic facts on Dragotin Cvetko, whose life and works it celebrates, and four addresses in his honour. Dragotina Cvetka, utemeljitelja sodobne slovenske muzikologije, priredil Muzikološki inštitut Znanstvenoraziskovalnega centra SAZU ob podpori Agencije za raziskovalno dejavnost in Slovenske akademije znanosti in umetnosti. Poleg referatov, ki so bili predstavljeni v štirih prepletajočih se in vsebinsko povezanih sklopih (o življenju in delu Dragotina Cvetka, o preobrazbah nacionalnih glasbenih historiografij, o vprašanjih evropske glasbene historiografije ter o muzikologiji ter njenem prehajanju od nacionalnega proti globalnemu) so v knjigi objavljeni tudi nekateri osnovni podatki o slavljencu in nekaj prav spominu naj napisanih besedil.     Description: Historični seminar 12 prinaša sedem razprav s področij zgodovine, kulturne zgodovine in jezikoslovja. Jure Volčjak predstavlja intrige in procese po smrti ljubljanskega škofa grofa Attemsa sredi 18. stoletja, v katerih so poskusi Dunaja, da bi ljubljansko škofijo in goriško nadškofijo združil v personalno unijo, spodleteli. Lilijana Žnidaršič Golec na podlagi pričevanj župljanov župnije Ig iz leta 1782 osvetljuje tedanjo cerkveno vernost, odnose med ljudmi in problematiko t. i. poznega janzenizma. Irena Selišnik piše o novih političnih praksah na prelomu iz 19. v 20. stoletje, za katere je značilen pojav množičnih političnih strank. Prispevek Gentiane Kera analizira povezavo med porokami, vodenjem gospodinjstev in demografskimi težavami, ki so vplivale na nastanek in strukturo gospodinjstev v Tirani. Mojca Žagar Karer analizira razlike med terminološkimi slovarji, leksikoni in enciklopedijami. Anja Benko pregledno predstavi razvoj in stanje slovenske narečne leksikografije ter predlaga model za izdelavo narečnega slikovnega slovarja. Silvo Torkar pa piše o slovenskih zemljepisnih imenih, ki so tvorjena iz slovanskih antroponimov.

    Description: The results of the international collaboration of the three institutions from Austria, Italy and Slovenia (Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt, Università degli studi di Udine and Znanstvenoraziskovalni center SAZU, Inštitut za arheologijo of Ljubljana) are being published in the Studia Alpium et Adriae series.New discoveries and the re-examination of old ones is offering new insights into the Roman army and the historical questions related to its presence and activity in the regions of the northern Adriatic and the eastern Alps. The first volume of Studia Alpium et Adriae contains the contributions of twenty-one authors from four countries (Italy, Slovenia, Croatia and Austria) who present the results of their work conducted in recent years within different research groups and projects.

    Description: The Ljubljanica River with its tributaries has witnessed no less than a quarter of a century of organised underwater research. The latter has shown that the archaeological complex there unquestionably ranks among the most interesting ones in Slovenia with the finds from the beds and banks of the waterways speaking of nearby settlements, cemeteries, forts, control points or places of cult.These, together with various types of river vessels and other traces of water exploitation, improve in many ways the knowledge of the phenomenon that is the Ljubljansko barje as a cultural landscape as well as its specific dynamics closely related to the natural changes in the environment from the early periods of the prehistory onwards.
    Description: Organizirane podvodne raziskave barjanskega dela reke Ljubljanice s pritoki so pokazale, da gre za nesporno enega najzanimivejših arheoloških kompleksov pri nas. Najdbe iz rečnih strug in bregov pričajo o bližnjih naselbinah, grobiščih, utrdbah, nadzornih točkah ali kultnih mestih ter skupaj s plovili in drugimi sledovi izrabe vodnega prostora dopolnjujejo poznavanje fenomena Ljubljanskega barja kot kulturne krajine in njegove dinamike, ki se je od starejših obdobij prazgodovine naprej tesno prepletala z naravnimi spremembami okolja.

    Description: In the collected papers the results of the research on hilltop settlement Spaha above Brezovica pri Predgradu are introduced. The site was excavated by Greta Hirschbäck-Merhar during the years 1979 and 1984. Spaha was settled in the period of Sava group, Lasinja culture, horizon of pottery with furrowed incisions, and probably also in the period of Urnfield culture. In the 16th century on the top of Spaha a watchtower was erected, from which the local community was being informed about the arrivals of plundering hordes of Turks. The reasons for the settling the top of the hill are searched in the appearance of first copper ore prospectors in this part of Europe and in the vicinity of deposits of raw material used for querns which were most probably used by agriculture communities of nearby Bela krajina. In the monograph are presented the relative and absolute chronologies of the Neolithic and earlier Eneolithic period of continental Slovenia.

    Description: To stand up against Nazi ideas of biologized “ethnicity” and antisemitism required a heroic disposition in individuals who did not allow themselves to have their basic humanity destroyed by such ideologies, even as the latter were backed by formidable political and religious power and sweepingly popular beliefs. The men and women presented in the first part of the book have already been recognised as Righteous Among Nations for their brave humanitarian acts during WWII, a title bestowed by the Yad Vashem World Center for Holocaust Research, Education, Documentation and Commemoration. Part Two brings the stories about people who were also saving Jews that were not recognised as Righteous yet, but some among them are candidates.
    Description: Upreti se ideologijam biologizirane »etničnosti« in antisemitizma je bilo v času nacizma še posebej junaško dejanje. Nagovorilo je ljudi, ki jim tovrstne ideologije, zavarovane s politično in religiozno avtoriteto in populističnimi prepričanji, niso mogle ubiti temeljnega humanizma. Ljudje, ženske in moški, ki jih predstavlja prvi del knjige, so bili za svoja pogumna in humana dejanja med drugo svetovno vojno že razpoznani kot pravične in pravični med narodi, kar je častni naslov in priznanje, ki ga podeljuje Jad Vašem, Svetovni center za raziskovanje, poučevanje, dokumentiranje in komemoriranje holokavsta v Jeruzalemu v Izraelu. Drugi del knjige prinaša zgodbe o ljudeh, ki so prav tako reševali preganjane Jude, ki pa naslova pravičnih še nimajo, a so nekateri že kandidatke in kandidati zanj.

    Description: The second book in the new collection Karstology in Development Challenges in the Karst brings together the findings obtained in planning and construction of motorways in the Karst. More than 350 new caves were opened up in the final wave of construction. This was followed by studies on arranging karstic features for tourism and their management. We also selected studies on karstic ecology, in which we made use of biological and microbiological research. At the end there is a summary of everything we need to take into account in planning different encroachments in karstic areas.
    Description: V drugi knjigi serije Krasoslovje v razvojnih izzivih na krasu so zbrani izsledki, pridobljeni pri načrtovanju in gradnji avtocest na krasu. Več kot 350 novih jam se je odprlo v zadnjem valu gradnje. Sledijo študije o urejanju kraških pojavov za turizem in njihovem upravljanju. Izbrali smo tudi študije o kraški ekologiji, pri katerih smo si pomagali z biološkimi in mikrobiološkimi raziskavami. Na koncu pa je povzetek vsega, kar moramo upoštevati pri načrtovanju različnih posegov na krasu.

    Description: The book contains 23 articles from various disciplines, reflecting Ložar’s intellectual work in Slovenia and in emigration. Rajko Ložar – an ethnologist, archeologist, art historian, literary, art, and music critic, museum worker, and publicist – was engaged in scholarly and professional work in Slovenia until the end of the Second World War. He lived and worked in Austrian Carinthia until the end of 1951 as a professor, collector, and researcher of ethnographic material, and then emigrated to the United States, where he was the director of the City Museum of Manitowoc, WI from 1956 until his retirement in 1969. His death there in 1985 marked the end of a variegated life and career.The articles join together the observations of scholars that have addressed Ložar and his work or were his successors, as well as those that knew him personally. Indirectly, through Ložar’s work, the articles discuss the history of the disciplines that he was connected with, and at the same time serve as narratives about the broader historical, social, and intellectual pulse of the time he worked in. The publication includes a bibliography of Ložar’s collected published and unpublished works.
    Description: V knjigi so zbrane razprave, ki z večdisciplinarne perspektive govorijo o intelektualnem delovanju Rajka Ložarja v Sloveniji in izseljenstvu. Kot etnolog, arheolog, umetnostni zgodovinar, literarni, likovni in glasbeni kritik, muzejski delavec in publicist je bil v Sloveniji znanstveno in strokovno aktiven do konca druge svetovne vojne. Na avstrijskem Koroškem je deloval kot profesor, zbiralec in raziskovalec do konca leta 1951, ko se je izselil v ZDA, kjer je bil od 1956 do upokojitve 1969 ravnatelj mestnega muzeja v Manitowocu. Tam je leta 1985 sklenil svojo zapleteno življenjsko in strokovno pot.

    Description: Knjiga je namenjena popotnikom po Kanalski dolini, Ratečah v Gornjesavski dolini in Belopeški ravnini, Reziji, Terski in Karnajski dolini, Kobariškem, Nadiških dolinah, Liškem, Kambreškem in dolini Idrije, po Kanalskem in Goriških brdih, ki jih zanimajo etnološke, zgodovinske in druge značilnosti slovenskega in italijanskega območja med Alpami in Krasom, hkrati pa bi si radi ogledali, kako svojo dediščino razumejo domačini, društva, občine in muzeji. V njem je namreč predstavljenih 33 zbirk predmetov, med katerimi so zbirke razglednic in podobic, obrtniške zbirke (mizarstvo, kovaštvo, brusaštvo), tematske zbirke (oblačila, pustni liki, likalniki, grablje), splošne zbirke predmetov, ki pričajo o načinu življenja na teh območjih, in zbirke ostankov prve svetovne vojne. Večino si je mogoče ogledati po predhodnem dogovoru in prek spleta. Vodnik je nastal v okviru projekta ZBORZBIRK, ki je bil sofinanciran v Programu čezmejnega sodelovanja Slovenija-Italija 2007–2013.

    Description: Important anniversaries of prominent historians have become traditional opportunities for the gift to the celebrator in the form of scientific contributions from his colleagues and the colleagues who have worked with him fruitfully or are still doing so. Marušičev zbornik is a tribute to one of the leading historians of the Slovene region in contact with its western neighbors, historian prof. Branko Marušič at the age of 80. He has created a very important oeuvre, while outlining basic research directions, which some have continued to gain. One of the prominent results of this “scientific transfer” is the present scientific monograph, with the highly significant subtitle, Zgodovinopisec zahodnega roba (The Historian of West Edge). In a single volume, it represents the contribution of different generations of historians to new insights into the history of coastal space, especially that of the borderland, which throughout history has encountered coexistence with “the other.” Different historical sources and their careful analyzes and interpretations, which the authors place in different time contexts, contribute to new or original scientific knowledge. The monograph is actual and important for the development of historiography, also because of the development of Slovenian scientific terminology.
    Description: Kot je v recenziji zapisal izr. prof. dr. Gorazd Bajc, postajajo pomembni jubileji vidnih zgodovinarjev že tradicionalne priložnosti poklona slavljencu v obliki znanstvenih prispevkov kolegov in kolegic, ki so z njim plodno sodelovali oziroma to še vedno počnejo. Marušičev zbornik je poklon enemu izmed vodilnih preučevalcev zgodovine slovenskega prostora v stiku z zahodnimi sosedi, zgodovinarju prof. dr. Branku Marušiču ob njegovi 80-letnici. Ustvaril je zelo pomemben opus, obenem pa začrtal temeljne raziskovalne usmeritve, ki so jih nekateri s pridom nadaljevali. Eden izmed vidnih rezultatov tega »znanstvenega prenosa« je pričujoča znanstvena monografija z zelo pomenljivim podnaslovom Zgodovinopisec zahodnega roba. Na enem samem mestu namreč predstavlja doprinos različnih generacij zgodovinarjev k novim spoznanjem o zgodovini primorskega prostora, posebej tistega mejnega, ki se je skozi zgodovino ves čas srečeval s sobivanjem z »drugim«. Različni zgodovinski viri in njihove pozorne analize ter interpretacije, ki jih avtorji umeščajo v različne časovne kontekste, prispevajo k novim oziroma izvirnim znanstvenim spoznanjem.

    Description: The book is the result of joint work and many years of mutual cooperation between researchers from Slovenia and Croatia. It was made as part of the transboundary project ŽIVO! Življenje – voda! (Life – Water!) (IPA CBC SI-HR 2007-2013), which involved the participation of authors from project partner institutions as well as invited authors who are famil­iar with the characteristics of the karst area of Northern Istria and the conditions there relating to drinking water supply. The monograph presents the natural features of Northern Istria, the karst and karst phenomena, karst hy­drogeology, ecology and microbiology, and highlights in particular the vulnerability of the karst to various human activities. The main focus of attention is on karst water sources. In assessing their characteristics we used available knowledge of karst water on both sides of the border and supplemented it with new research on the transboundary area in question, which was based on field measurements and sampling, and chemical, microbiological and biologi­cal analysis of water. The collected findings form the basis for planning more effective monitoring of the quality of karst water sources, their protection and consequently the improvement of their quality.First editon was published in 2015, this corrected second edition is available also in paperback (ISBN 978-961-05-0001-8).

(IPA CBC SI-HR 2007-2013), kjer so sodelovali tako avtorji iz inštitucij projektnih partnerjev kot vabljeni avtorji, ki poznajo značilnosti kraškega območja severne Istre in tamkajšnje razmere pri oskrbi s pitno vodo. V monografiji so predstavljene naravne danosti severne Istre, kras in kraški pojavi, kraška hidrogeologija, ekologija in mikrobiologija, posebej pa je izpostavljena ranljivost krasa na različne človekove dejavnosti. Pri oceni njihovih značilnosti smo uporabili razpoložljiva spoznanja o kraških vodah z obeh strani meje in jih dopolnili z novimi raziskavami obravnavanega čezmejnega prostora, ki so temeljile na terenskih meritvah in vzorčenju ter kemijskih, mikrobioloških in bioloških analizah vode.
