    Description: The present catalogue comprises detailed descriptions of approx. 90 illuminated manuscripts and early printed books from the collection of the Upper Austrian State Library in Linz. Through its many findings on the origin of the described works the catalogue can be regarded as a major contribution to the research on book-illumination and book-production in the late Middle Ages; furthermore it provides the reader with a large number of newly discovered historical data.     Description: Once more we are made aware of the fact that during the first half of the 19th century Bohemian musicians performed successfully outside their home country, in Europe as well as in the New World and in the Russian Empire, including careers in Vienna and we also learn that the readers of Viennese journals in the first place of the “Theaterzeitung” got firsthand information about the repertoire of the theatres in Prague and of theatres elsewhere. Reports and reviews about the life in the applied arts in the Bohemian lands being a rather lesser known chapter of art history allow us an insight in this field. The volume in question offers a reach source of information concerning the history of music, applied and performing arts in the Bohemian lands under Habsburg rule in the first half of the 19th century from the perspective of Viennese media.
    Description: Einmal mehr wird ins Gedächtnis gerufen, dass böhmische Musiker europaweit auftraten, auch die Neue Welt und das Russische Reich bespielten, besonders aber auch an den Wiener Bühnen teils an maßgeblicher Stelle als Komponisten, Solisten oder Kapellmeister wirkten und dass, das Theaterleben betreffend, die Leserschaft der Wiener Blätter, allen voran der „Theaterzeitung“, bestens im Bilde darüber war, was in Prag und anderswo gespielt wurde. Berichte über die bildenden Künste in den böhmischen Ländern vermitteln einen Einblick in das wenig bekannte zeitgenössische Kunstgeschehen. Der vorliegende Band erschließt reichhaltige Quellen zur Theater- Musik- und Kunstgeschichte der Biedermeierzeit und schlägt ein bedeutendes Kapitel der Pressegeschichte auf. Das Wiener Vormärz-Slavica-Projekt am Institut für Kulturwissenschaften und Theatergeschichte der Österreichischen Akademie der Wissenschaften befasst sich mit der „nichtpolitischen“ Metternich‘schen Presse, indem es eine Auswertung im Hinblick auf eine spezifische Fragestellung liefert. Die vorliegende Publikation ist der dritte Teil des fünften Bandes der daraus hervorgegangenen komparatistischen Reihe betitelt: Die böhmischen Länder in den Wiener Zeitschriften und Almanachen des Vormärz (1805-1848). Tschechische nationale Wiedergeburt – Kultur- und Landeskunde von Böhmen, Mähren und Schlesien – Kulturelle Beziehungen zu Wien. Nachdem Teil I (2011) die Bereiche Belletristik und Pressewesen, Teil II (2013) die Bereiche Sprachwissenschaften – Philosophie, Ästhetik, Rhetorik – Geschichte – Bildungsinstitutionen, erschlossen haben wird in Teil III das Material zu den Künsten (Musik – Bildende Künste – Darstellende Künste) systematisch erfasst.

    Description: Research on occasions and forms of private representation in art from the close of Antiquity to the end of the Middle Ages has so far been carried out rarely and not very systematically. This volume presents the proceedings of an international conference held at the Austrian Academy of Sciences in 2013. His contributions were devoted to private portraits between Late Antiquity and Byzantium on very different groups of monuments and on aspects in a broad diachronic and methodological perspective.

    Description: In Byzantium the epigram as a genre was highly appreciated. Their analysis is the aim of the four planned volumes of the project “Byzantinische Epigramme in inschriftlicher Überlieferung” [“Byzantine epigrams on objects”]. More than 300 and such epigrams preserved on stone, which are treated in the present third volume, are known from the project period 600 AD to 1500 AD.
    Description: In Byzanz wurde das Genre Epigramm besonders geschätzt. Ihre Aufarbeitung zum Ziel setzt sich das auf vier Bände angelegte Projekt „Byzantinische Epigramme in inschriftlicher Überlieferung“. Aus dem im Rahmen des Projekts definierten Untersuchungszeitraum (600 n. Chr. – 1500 n. Chr.) sind mehr als 300 aus Stein gearbeitete Epigramme überliefert, die im vorliegenden dritten Band behandelt werden.

    Description: Interdisciplinary cooperation enables the two authors to precicly localize and date one of the most lavishly produced manuscript of a medieval German epic during 15th century. With the combination of art-historical and linguistic methods the “Münchener Jüngere Titurel” (BSB, Cgm 8470) – hithero beliefed to be of Tyrolian or Vienese origin – was dated (c. 1430/35) and localised (Regensburg). The exemplary study proves the potential of cooperations within the humanities.
    Description: In Zusammenarbeit eines Kunsthistorikers und eines Sprachwissenschafters gelingt es, eine der schönsten Epenhandschriften des 15. Jahrhunderts, den Münchener „Jüngeren Titurel“ sowohl zu lokalisieren als auch zu datieren. Die jeweiligen Methoden rücken die mittelalterliche Quelle ganz ins Zentrum und kommen durch in jedem einzelnen Schritt nachvollziehbare Argumente zur Überzeugung, dass der Codex um 1430/35 in Rgensburg entstand. Die Studie will exemplarisch zeigen wie groß das Potential solcher Zusammenarbeiten über enge Fachgrenzen ist.
