    Description: Revolution, Krieg und Nation: Dass dieser Dreiklang den Übergang von der alteuropäischen Gesellschaft zu den modernen Staatsnationen des 19. und 20. Im "Age of Revolutions" gaben die Ideen von Freiheit und Gleichheit mit ihrer systemerschütternden Kraft einem ganzen Zeitalter ihren Namen. Aber gilt der Zusammenhang von Krieg, Revolution und Nationalismus auch an den Rändern Europas und über Europa hinaus? Wie steht es um den asiatischen Teil der Sowjetunion, um Mexiko, die Türkei? Angelehnt an die grundlegenden Forschungen Dieter Langewiesches hinterfragen zehn Experten eine der wirkmächtigsten Meistererzählungen der Geschichtswissenschaft. Dabei gehen sie weit über den traditionellen mitteleuropäischen Forschungsrahmen hinaus und untersuchen Beispiele revolutionärer Erhebungen in Süd- und Osteuropa ebenso wie die Entwicklungen auf dem amerikanischen Kontinent. Zwei Zeiträume stehen im Mittelpunkt: Die Jahrzehnte um 1800 als dem klassischen Revolutionszeitalter und die Jahre um den ersten Weltkrieg, in dessen Umfeld erneut territoriale und politische Ordnungen in Frage gestellt und neu gestaltet wurden.

    Description: Voltaire is one of the few European authors of the 18th century to have dealt with Korea. In this study, we first propose to highlight, through an analysis of all of his work, the texts in which he mentioned Korea and how this country is represented there. We will then try to identify his documentary sources, and we will focus mainly on how the author created stories from historical elements. Our survey also aims to understand Voltaire’s attitude to the historical-philosophical and dramatic genres, and to better understand his conception of these two genres.

    Description: Fritz Bauer ist als der Staatsanwalt in die Geschichte der Bundesrepublik eingegangen, der den Auschwitz- Prozess initiiert und in einer Vielzahl weiterer Fälle die Verfolgung von NS-Verbrechen in die Wege geleitet hat. In Büchern, Aufsätzen, Zeitungsartikeln, Interviews und Reden in Hörfunk und Fernsehen reflektierte er die gesellschaftliche und politische Lage der Bundesrepublik in der Nachkriegszeit. Daneben formulierte er ein kriminalpolitisches Programm, in dem er Ziel und Zweck des Strafrechts grundlegend infrage stellte. Bauer hat in diesen Schriften oft Positionen bezogen, die für seine Zeit ungewöhnlich waren; zugleich zeigen sie, wie eng er dem Denken seiner Zeit verbunden war. Sie gewähren Einsicht in Diskussionen der frühen Bundesrepublik und führen eindrucksvoll vor Augen, wie sich Bauer als Jurist, Remigrant, jüdischer Intellektueller und Sozialdemokrat einmischte und Gehör verschaffte. So eröffnen seine »Kleinen Schriften« aus heute meist unzugänglichen Zeitungen und Zeitschriften, den Blick auf die Brüche in Bauers Biografie, auf Exil und Remigration als Schlüsselerfahrungen. Fritz Bauer (1903–1968) war eine der bedeutendsten Persönlichkeiten im Kampf für die juristische Ahndung der NS-Verbrechen in den 1950er- und 1960er-Jahren in der Bundesrepublik. Von den Nationalsozialisten ins Exil getrieben, kehrte Bauer 1949 nach West-Deutschland zurück und setzte sich als hessischer Generalstaatsanwalt für die Demokratisierung des Landes ein.     Description: Despite the opposition of two parties - first the Whigs and the Tories, then the Liberals and the Conservatives - 19th century Britain was characterized by a political culture of moderation. The bearers of this political culture were a group of politicians who always sought the middle way between the extremes and were known as Liberal Tories or Liberal Conservatives. This book fills a research gap by examining the development of this British Liberal Conservatism in the period from 1750 to 1850, first looking at Edmund Burke's political philosophy and then showing how the Liberal Tories and Liberal Conservatives who followed him drew on his thinking. It shows how politicians such as George Canning and Sir Robert Peel, based on Burke and the political philosophy of the "Old Whigs", pursued a centrist policy that was always oriented towards the virtues of moderation and prudence. The book thus sheds light on the conservative variant of liberalism that characterized Great Britain throughout the 19th century.

    Description: Castles and nobility in the Middle Ages are not only considered together in historical research. For the lower nobility in particular, the possession of castles was decisive for the social positioning of the respective noble family. In order to sharpen this connection, the dissertation looks at both together and examines the concrete significance of castles in the formation phase of the lower nobility between 1250 and 1400. The focus of the regional and interdisciplinary study is on noble families and their castles from the area around the Counts of Helfenstein in the region between Geislingen an der Steige and Blaubeuren in the Swabian Alb. It examines aristocratic strategies of homemaking, of positioning themselves in the world. The center of this positioning was the castle. It appears as a spatial and social point of reference, which was important in almost every area of aristocratic life: it was the hub and nucleus of (the exercise of) power, the center of social group affiliations as well as the stage and medium of cultural participation. Castle thus means far more than just the building stock that has possibly survived to this day, but the overall social and spatial phenomenon of a center with many functions. Access to this multifunctional 'castle' phenomenon opened up a wide range of possibilities for the lower nobility and thus opportunities to position themselves in all areas of aristocratic affiliation. In this way, castles can be described as a socio-cultural resource in the sense of the concept of the Collaborative Research Center 1070 RESOURCE CULTURES.

Ferdinand I., der Nachfolger Kaiser Karls V., hat in der Historiographie seit Ranke im Schatten seines älteren Bruders gestanden, dessen loyaler Helfer er jahrzehntelang gewesen ist. Die leitende Frage ist, wie Ferdinand I., der bis 1564 regiert hat, seine Aufgabe als Kaiser begriffen hat, seine Möglichkeiten einschätzte und seine Politik einrichtete. Die Arbeit wertet in größerem Ausmaß bislang ungedrucktes archivalisches Material aus. Es wird nachgewiesen, dass Ferdinands Politik als Kaiser sich deutlich von der Karls V. abhebt, obwohl er an einer wesentlichen Zielsetzung des Bruders festgehalten hat, denn er bemühte sich wie jener aus vorreformatorischem Selbstverständnis als weltliches Haupt der Christenheit bis zu seinem Tod um die Wiederherstellung der zerbrochenen Einheit der Christianitas catholica. Die Untersuchung beginnt beim Augsburger Reichstag von 1555, um die grundlegende Bedeutung der dort unter maßgeblicher Beeinflussung durch Ferdinand erzielten Ergebnisse für seine künftige Haltung und Politik als Kaiser darzutun. Sie behandelt in den folgenden Kapiteln neben seiner Reichspolitik und seiner "Außenpolitik", die auf Bewahrung des Friedens angelegt waren, seine Konzilspolitik, die in seinen Initiativen zur Einberufung und seiner kritischen Begleitung der dritten Periode des Trienter Konzils fassbar ist, und seine Auffassung vom Kaisertum. Sie bestätigt, worin schon Ferdinands Zeitgenossen sein Hauptverdienst gesehen haben: dem Reich eine Epoche relativ sicheren Friedens beschert zu haben.

    Description: The life and miracles of St. Elisabeth of Thuringia are the subject of the 'Life of Elisabeth' by the Eisenach council scribe Johannes Rothe (ca. 1360-1434). Rothe, who had already written spiritual works and three extensive chronicles ('Eisenacher Stadtchronik', 'Thüringische Landeschronik' and 'Weltchronik'), offers a comprehensive rendition of the chronicle and legendary tradition in the rhyming verse legend of over 4,000 verses, whereby, in addition to the chronicles, he particularly exploits the Latin Vita of Dietrich von Apolda. In the formal connection to the legends of the saints and the orientation towards chronicles in terms of content, Rothe adopts a cross-genre standpoint. Elisabeth's life is integrated into the genealogy of the landgrave's dynasty and thus becomes part of the landgrave's memorial culture. In the history of the text's reception, with numerous copies up to the 18th century, there is evidence of corresponding emphases: the work was used partly as a devotional book and partly as part of the dynastic memoria of the Thuringian dynasty.

Sein Fazit: Deutschland befindet sich heute auf dem Weg zum »kontingenten Patchworkstaat«.

    Description: Dieser Sammelband setzt sich mit den Deutschlandbildern in Belgien bis zum Beginn der deutschen Okkupation im Jahre 1940 auseinander. Betrachtet werden diese aus Sicht unterschiedlicher Geisteswissenschaften wie Philosophie, Literatur, Geschichte, Kunstgeschichte und Musikwissenschaft. Die traditionellen Topoi der deutschen Imagologie, die überall in Europa eine große Resonanz gefunden haben (das romantische Deutschland, das Land der Dichter und Denker, aber ab dem Krieg von 1870 auch das preußische Feindbild), werden dabei in Betracht gezogen. Konstitutiv für den Prozess der Identitätsbildung in Belgien bis zum Ersten Weltkrieg war die deutsch-germanische Komponente, die in der Metapher der sog. âme belge als Kultursynthese zum Ausdruck kam. Der Ausbruch des Ersten Weltkriegs hat hier besonders traumatisch gewirkt, was zur Folge hatte, dass diese partielle „Zugehörigkeit“ Belgiens zur deutschen Kultursphäre drastisch neuevaluiert wurde, unabhängig von der Schaffung eines deutschsprachigen Gebiets in Belgien durch den Versailler Vertrag.

    Description: Dans sa Démonolâtrie (1595), le procureur général de Lorraine, Nicolas Remy, estime que « Les sorciers appartiennent la plupart du temps au monde des bourgs et des campagnes. ». Cependant, les vauderies survenues à Lyon et Arras au XVe siècle comme les cas de possession du XVIIe siècle sont autant de témoignages de la présence de la sorcellerie dans les villes européennes. Les études de cas et les essais comparatifs réunis dans ce volume montrent qu'en dépit de la diversité des sociétés urbaines, la sorcellerie apparaît comme un révélateur des enjeux de pouvoir qui traversent les villes modernes.Dans sa postface, Carlo Ginzburg insiste sur la portée d'une approche comparatiste, toujours attentive aux écarts à la norme, et souligne l'importance d’aborder les procès de sorcellerie comme une manifestation particulière des tensions sociales et culturelles.

    Description: Neben der Biblia pauperum ist das Speculum humanae salvationis das wohl bekannteste typologische Werk des Mittelalters. Vom lateinischen Text sind 328 handschriftliche mittelalterliche Quellen überliefert. Von seiner Popularität zeugen überdies Übersetzungen ins Deutsche, Französische, Niederländische, Englische und Tschechische. Diese Arbeit stellt eine der beiden niederländischen Fassungen des Speculum, und zwar die Prosaübersetzung aus dem Jahre 1464, in den Mittelpunkt. Neben Struktur und Funktion des lateinischen Textes werden in einem chronologisch-thematisch organisierten status quaestionis die Accessusfragen nach Herkunft und Autorschaft des Speculum erörtert. Vom mittelniederländischen Prosa-Spieghel werden eine genaue kodikologische Beschreibung und eine breit angelegte Analyse der Sprache geboten. Auch der literaturhistorische Kontext und die Übersetzungs- und Bearbeitungstechnik werden eingehen behandelt. Die kritische Edition nach der Haarlemer Handschrift erfüllt ein altes Forschungsdesiderat, indem sie sowohl den Vergleich mit der bereits vor mehr als einem halben Jahrhundert herausgegebenen Versübertragung ermöglicht, als auch eine eminent wichtige Schnittstelle zwischen handschriftlicher und gedruckter Tradition in den Niederlanden für die Forschung zugänglich macht.

    Description: Les guerres culturelles du XIXe siècle opposèrent les anticléricaux et les libéraux aux chrétiens intransigeants. Ils s’affrontèrent sur des questions majeures : l’articulation entre religion et politique ; les limites de la liberté individuelle, le but de l’existence humaine. Leurs visions du monde paraissaient inconciliables. Comment ont-ils géré leurs différends ? Quelles ont été finalement les voies de la coexistence ? En croisant les histoires italienne, française, allemande et suisse, cet ouvrage montre les mécanismes communs qui, en Europe, ont apporté une première vague sécularisatrice. La Guerre des deux France, le Kulturkampf et le Risorgimento sont analysés comme des crises d’apprentissage du pluralisme au sein des jeunes nations démocratiques. Ces guerres culturelles, sans véritables gagnants ni perdants, ont contribué à transformer tant les églises, qui luttaient pour ne pas perdre leur influence, que les états qui, en se laïcisant, ont assis leur souveraineté.

    Description: This study deals with aspectuality in Resian, a Slovene-based variety of north-eastern Italy, and the probable role of Romance influence on developments in this domain. In part, these findings are compared with the situation found with other non-Romance linguistic varieties spoken in Italy, especially Molise Slavic. The functional-semantic field of aspectuality is considered both in relation to its grammatical centre, viz. verbal aspect, and its lexical periphery. Language contact plays an important role in the almost complete transition of the Resian dual aspect system to a purely derivational opposition “imperfective : perfective”, also absorbing most of its prior morphosyntactic opposition “imperfect : aorist : perfect”. Furthermore, the special aspectual selection properties of phasal verbs and the role of aspect in the functions of modal verbs merit particular mention in this respect. In the case of lexical and periphrastic means of expression, a number of calqued progressive and prospective (imminent) periphrases, mostly calqued from Romance models, are discussed.

    Description: Il n’est pas toujours facile, pour les chercheurs et chercheuses comme pour les étudiant.e.s en Histoire ou Littérature antique, d’avoir accès aux préambules à l’élaboration d’un texte. La frustration qui en résulte est d’autant plus grande dans le cas de l’historiographie, où nous savons qu’un vaste travail de collecte, sélection et réappropriation des sources a présidé à la rédaction des œuvres qui nous sont parvenues. C’est à ces « coulisses » que cet ouvrage essaie d’accéder, par le moyen d’une comparaison originale et systématique de deux historiens romains contemporains, Tacite et Suétone. Abordées sur un pied d’égalité en ce qui concerne la démarche historiographique, leurs œuvres permettent en effet de lever une partie du voile sur ce qui relève, dans leur contenu, de l’influence des auteurs précédents ou de choix personnels, mais aussi des attentes du public du IIe siècle lorsqu’il s’agissait d’écrire sur les premiers empereurs. Sont dès lors étudiés d’un point de vue historiographique des épisodes aussi fameux que le séjour de Tibère à Capri ou l’incendie de Rome en 64, et abordés des thèmes comme la présence visible des deux auteurs dans leur texte, celle de leurs sources, la question des motifs repris et développés ou encore le rapport à la tradition antérieure sur les Julio-Claudiens et les trois « empereurs éphémères » qui succédèrent à Néron. Une meilleure connaissance du rapport des Romains à l’écriture de l’histoire et au passé devient ainsi également possible.

Die „1968er“ haben dabei den Ruf, eine neue politische Kultur herbeigeführt zu haben, die in vielen westlichen Ländern ähnliche Formen annahm. In dieser Geschichtsbetrachtung wird jedoch übersehen, dass vieles, was mit den 1960er Jahren in Verbindung gebracht wird, sich oft erst in den 1970er Jahren vollzog. Viele Protestbewegungen kamen erst in den 1970er Jahren zur vollen Entfaltung, andere radikalisierten sich und prägten anschließend die öffentlichen Diskussionen. Schaut man auf die gesellschaftlichen Reformen, die mit den 1960er Jahren in Verbindung gebracht werden, dann gilt auch hier, dass die 1970er Jahre das wichtigere Jahrzehnt waren. Es ist vor diesem Hintergrund nicht verwunderlich, dass den 1970er Jahren in der internationalen Geschichtsschreibung immer mehr Aufmerksamkeit geschenkt wird. Dieser Sammelband schließt sich dieser Entwicklung an und thematisiert wichtige politische, wirtschaftliche und gesellschaftliche Entwicklungen in Deutschland und in den Niederlanden im Vergleich.

Après une préface inédite de Georges Vigarello concernant l’évolution du sport dans ce sens, l’introduction collective précise et pose les bases de ces notions d’héritage sportif et de dynamiques patrimoniales afin de pouvoir les articuler aux quatre parties qui structurent la suite de l’ouvrage : le patrimoine immatériel des jeux traditionnels et des exercices corporels, les dynamiques locales du patrimoine sportif, le patrimoine de l’éducation physique française ainsi que celui ayant trait à la guerre et au passé militaire. Les différents textes sont extraits des communications présentées à Bordeaux du 29 au 31 octobre 2018 à l’occasion d’une manifestation commune organisée par le Comité Européen d’Histoire du Sport (CESH) et la Société Française d’Histoire du Sport (SFHS).

    Description: This article shows that particle verbs in Burgenland Croatian – a notable morphosyntactic phenomenon of language contact – may form aspectual pairs in a typically Slavic manner. Particle-based pairs with an indigenous base verb are formed by means of suffixation, suffix opposition, suppletion or prefixation. In the case of spatial relations, by contrast, preverbs predominate over prefixes, leading to a reduction of the old inventory of verbal compounds. Nevertheless, preverbs are only rarely obligatory in the formation of aspectual pairs. In the case of borrowings, only prefixation is productive, which might be attributed to German (and Hungarian) influence. On a par with other aspectual pairs, particle-based formations may express taxis relations (sequence, simultaneity, incidence). Language contact possibly contributed to the preservation of the Contextually Conditioned Imperfective Past also in imperfective particle verbs.

    Description: In der zweiten Hälfte des 4. Jahrhunderts erfand ein unbekannter Autor einen Briefwechsel zwischen Seneca und Paulus. Die vierzehn kurzen Briefe, acht vom Philosophen, sechs vom Apostel, sind in sehr schlechtem spätantikem Latein geschrieben und weitgehend inhaltslos. Ihr Ziel ist es, mittels eines Austauschs von freundschaftlichen Billetts, wie er unter den Intellektuellen der Spätantike üblich war, Seneca zum Freund des Paulus zu machen und so das hohe Ansehen Senecas in der spätantiken lateinischen Theologie apostolisch zu sanktionieren. Diese Fiktion war sehr erfolgreich und regte im Laufe der Geschichte immer wieder zu Spekulationen über das Verhältnis zwischen Stoa und Christentum an. Dieser Band bietet eine neue Übersetzung des Briefwechsels auf der Basis der neuesten kritischen Edition, versehen mit einer Einleitung, Erläuterungen und Testimonien. Ferner werden zwei wenig bekannte Texte aus dem Umfeld des Briefwechsels abgedruckt, erstmals übersetzt und erläutert: ein angeblicher Brief des Mordechai an Alexander den Großen aus einer Fassung des Alexanderromans und ein Brief Senecas über Hochmut und Götterbilder, eine christliche Apologie aus dem 5. Jahrhundert. Die Essays behandeln zentrale Probleme des Verhältnisses zwischen Stoa und Christentum (Gottesbild und Ethik) sowie die Seneca-Rezeption vom Mittelalter bis in die frühe Neuzeit.

Sont ainsi abordés les différents genres littéraires, la structure du sūtra, les sources textuelles et mythologiques qui ont inspiré son auteur, ainsi que les thèmes de la souffrance, de l’impermanence, des jeux du Bodhisattva, etc. Ce parcours d’ensemble invite à mieux comprendre la manière dont la vie du Buddha a été écrite.

    Description: The article provides a survey of aspect-tense (AT) grams in (North) Slavic and Baltic, with some account of Finnic. More recently developed grams (bound morphology and constructions) are evaluated against a deeper diachronic and larger areal backdrop in order to assess the significance of contact as a factor contributing to convergence of Slavic and Baltic varieties in the AT domain. In fact, the amount of actually converging features related to grammatical oppositions in this area is quite small; these are: (i) Prominent parallels in the strict subject- vs. object-oriented division of perfects in Slavic (mainly Belarusian) rural varieties, which must have been supported by an ancient and very stable Baltic model. (ii) Suffixation patterns of stem derivation in Aukštaitian Lithuanian resembling Slavic secondary imperfectivisation. The reasons for a generally low level of mutual influence between Baltic and Slavic are subjected to some methodological discussion.

Viele wurden durch Agitation und Abstimmung tief beeindruckt, sogar die Archive des Gebiets mussten geteilt werden. Nordschleswig wurde als ein Teil des Königreichs Dänemarks einverleibt. Diese wurde von einem nordschleswigschen Ministerium vorbereitet und kam bei der Konstruktion der Grenze sowie in Schule und Kirche zum Ausdruck. Die deutsche Minderheit widersetzte sich der Integration und während der Krisenjahre entstanden extreme politische Bewegungen. Diese Folgen werden in diesem Buch thematisiert, das ein Ergebnis einer deutsch-dänischen Zusammenarbeit zwischen dem Landesarchiv Schleswig-Holstein und dem Rigsarkivet Aabenraa mit dem Studienzentrum für die Geschichte Schleswigs ist.

Taková rezignace je obranou před tím, že se člověk stane pouhým článkem v řadě událostí či dějů. Umění, filosofie, ale především svoboda tkví ve schopnosti vytvářet distanci.     Description: La République des castors : c’est ainsi que Montesquieu, d’après un témoignage de Pierre Daru, appelait Venise. Qu’entendait-il, au juste, par là ? La ténacité, certes, avec laquelle les habitants de la lagune avaient fait surgir de l’eau la « ville la plus triomphante » du monde, mais sa précarité aussi, qui pouvait à chaque instant la mettre en butte aux convoitises des hommes et à l’usure du temps. Ainsi, en un jour, le 12 mai 1797, la vague napoléonienne devait emporter la vieille République qui avait résisté pendant un millénaire à toutes les menaces, à tous les dangers. C’est autour de cet événement – situé comme « épisode » dans ses tenants et aboutissants immédiats, mais aussi dans une ligne de « tendance » séculaire –, et pour en commémorer l’anniversaire, que ce recueil est organisé. Il ne s’agit pas d’un livre, qui viendrait s’ajouter à l’immense bibliographie sur l’histoire de Venise, mais plutôt d’un guide pour ce qui, dans cette histoire, a fait et fait encore problème : le « mythe politique », le statut des « citoyens », les querelles théâtrales, les circonstances de la chute, les débats et controverses dont la République fut l’objet après 1797, et tout au long du XIXe siècle. Si deux légendes ont fleuri autour de Venise et de son histoire, une légende dorée et une légende noire, ce recueil, en déroulant un fil continu entre les deux, tente de montrer comment l’une ne fut que le reflet inversé de l’autre. C’est ce qui fait, au fond, la singularité de Venise dans l’histoire européenne.

    Description: Hoffmann von Fallersleben unternahm 1819 seine erste Reise in die Niederlande. Zahlreiche Werke Hoffmanns bezeugen sein Interesse für das niederländische Sprachgebiet. Aus seiner Autobiographie, seinen Tagebüchern, Notizen, den Vorlesungen, der Korrespondenz sowie aus seinen Zeitungsartikeln lassen sich Erkenntnisse über seine Beziehungen in die Niederlande und nach Belgien ableiten. Aber weder die Beziehungen noch sein Belgien- und Niederlandebild sind bis heute erschöpfend erforscht worden. Diese Untersuchung will Hoffmanns Beziehungen zu den Niederlanden und zum nachmaligen Belgien sowie das Netzwerk, das er dort aufbaute, anhand seiner Korrespondenz und der Akten zu seiner Person rekonstruieren. Hoffmann schildert ein diffuses Bild der Nachbarn, das von einer deutsch-nationalen Einstellung geprägt ist. Zu fragen ist, ob sein positives Verhalten und seine negativen Äußerungen lediglich ideologisch motiviert waren und vorwiegend daher rührten, daß er, wie viele deutsche Intellektuelle im 19. Jahrhundert, versuchte, die Niederlande und Belgien einem deutschen Staatsgefüge einzugliedern, oder ob er vielmehr als Kulturvermittler zu gelten hat. Hoffmanns Briefwechsel umfaßt, soweit sich jetzt feststellen läßt, über 7000 Briefe, die hier erstmals in einem Verzeichnis erfaßt sind. Daneben werden unveröffentlichte Materialien aus deutschen, belgischen und niederländischen Archiven, die bisher in der Forschung nicht berücksichtigt wurden, vorgestellt.

    Description: This paper deals with the Upper Sorbian aspect categories. While the traditional inflectional opposition imperfect vs. aorist is still widely used in the standard variety, it has almost disappeared from the colloquial variety used in the Catholic area of Upper Lusatia in Eastern Germany. By contrast, the derivational opposition of perfectivity formally persists in this area but has undergone some changes which are very specific to this variety. In particular, this aspect opposition, expressed by means of prefixes and suffixes has been radically restructured, such that its functional domain has shifted from grammatical aspect to grammatical telicity. It is argued that the starting point of this change is to be sought in an identification of the Sorbian aspect-sensitive grammatical prefixes with the German prefixes which mainly express telicity in processes of word formation. Special usages dealt with in this study are, on the one hand, the expression of habituality through (formally) imperfective verbs and, surprisingly, the expression of ongoing telic processes, but also of the analytical future, by means of their perfective correlates, on the other.

    Description: In Raymond Radiguet’s works, women confronted with the absence of their spouse are a recurrent literary figure. Between the virtuous wife set up as a model and the adulterous woman who is a source of scandal, there are many nuances that encourage us to go beyond this reductive approach. Suspended time’ is precisely a window on the history of married women confronted with the long-term absence of a husband, considering them in their full agentivity and not as victims undergoing the throes of separation. The question of the autonomy and independence of wives in Western societies, which have long been patriarchal, is therefore at the heart of this book. Indeed, the departure of men, whether they are at war, at sea or elsewhere, offers the possibility of partially bypassing the “silences of history” with regard to women and of observing them, on a daily basis, in their confrontation with the absence of the other. This collection of essays is firmly rooted in the history of the family and the history of gender, and offers twenty-four contributions whose approaches alternate between individual trajectories – so many female experiences of absence – and more general perspectives, from Greek antiquity, through Renaissance Italy and revolutionary France, to contemporary Quebec.

    Description: Dieu au Collège de France, volume 6 of the « Passage des disciplines » series, includes texts that were presented during the symposium “Dieu at the Collège de France”, which was held in June 2021, after the delays caused by the pandemic, as part of “Passage des disciplines. Global history of the Collège de France, 19th-20th century”. This research program and the series associated with it examines the genesis of scientific and literary fields of knowledge, their mapping and their evolution during the 19th and 20th centuries, on both national and international levels, from the standpoint afforded by the history of the renewal of academic chairs at the Collège de France. “Dieu” is, to be sure, not a new 19th discipline, or a “founder of discursivity”, as Foucault called the scholars who had invented not only new discourses, but, more broadly, discursive continents, new “épistemes”. God is certainly an ancient “inventor of discursivity” and the discursive continent that he has launched is considerably more diffuse than those which come from Freud, Darwin, Einstein or Durkheim, which were the object of preceding symposia, and, for the first three ones, of the first three volumes of the series. Yet, it seemed to us possible to examine, in collaboration with Thomas Römer, holder of the chair The Hebrew Bible and its Contexts, the science of God and how the Collège de France, at different times of its history, and through this institution, the university, higher education in general, the life of ideas, made way for the sciences of religion.

Neben der Darstellung der Einflusswirkungen sowie deren Einordnung und Auswertung auf der Grundlage des Stakeholder Salience Modell von Mitchell et al. gibt der Autor Handlungsempfehlungen, wie es zu einer Ausweitung des Carsharing in Deutschland kommen kann. Car sharing can contribute significantly to reducing the number of private cars. Nevertheless, it remains in the niche. This work looks for the reasons for this niche existence and does so with a focus on different stakeholder groups. In addition to the presentation of the effects of influence as well as their classification and evaluation on the basis of the Stakeholder Salience Model by Mitchell et al., the author gives recommendations for action on how an expansion of car sharing in Germany can be achieved.

Damit bietet es erstmals eine Synthese der vielfältigen energiewirtschaftlichen Beziehungen innerhalb der Region.

Au prix d’un patient travail de contextualisation, les auteurs apportent des éléments nouveaux sur ses usages par les réguliers comme par leurs bienfaiteurs. Ils posent ainsi de précieux jalons pour que s’écrive un jour l’histoire longue de cette pratique religieuse combinant marché du salut et solidarité chrétienne face à l’inéluctable défi de l’au-delà.

Die wechselseitige Perzeption der beiden Nachbarstaaten wurde geprägt von der Unterschiedlichkeit der Länder in Tradition und Mentalität. Zu Recht stellte in jener Zeit schon der Kunsthistoriker und Niederlandekenner Friedrich K. A. (Fritz) Wiehert fest, es sei überraschend, wie wenig die Deutschen über die Niederlande und wie wenig die Niederländer über Deutschland wüssten, trotz oder gerade wegen der nachbarlichen Nähe. Was wurde unternommen, welche Mittel wurden eingesetzt, um die Niederlande zu einer Parteinahme zu bewegen oder sie Deutschland wenigstens gewogen zu stimmen? Hier ist vor allem der in Den Haag tätigen geheimen Hilfsstelle eine wichtige Rolle zuzuschreiben. Ihre Aufgabe war es, das neutrale Nachbarland durch kulturelle Mittel deutschfreundlich zu beeinflussen mit der Zielvorgabe, die Niederlande in einen kulturellen Außenposten im Sinne des Deutschen Reiches zu verwandeln.

    Description: This paper has two main objectives, to present some essential aspectual properties of Molise Slavic in comparison with other varieties in situations of strong language contact, and to discuss the role of language contact in each of these. Besides the grammatical categories of verbal aspect in the narrow sense, we deal with several more or less grammaticalised periphrases that also express aspectual functions or whose usage, at least, is triggered under the influence of verbal aspect. As in some other Slavic languages, having preserved traces of the original dual aspect system, Molise Slavic still displays a morphosyntactic aspectual opposition expressed by means of the perfect vs. imperfect, in addition to the Slavic derivational opposition between perfective vs. imperfective. Both oppositions combine with each other. The role of Romance in the reorganisation of these categories is discussed. The most salient innovation from a formal perspective is the imminentive calqued from Italian, but combinations of full verbs with phasal and modal verbs also show Romance influence. The results of the influence of dominant varieties on Molise Slavic in the area of aspectuality are compared with the development and behaviour of corresponding phenomena in the other languages and language families presented in this volume, in particular Resian and Slavic minority languages in Austria and Germany, Italo-Albanian, Italo-Greek, Baltic, German-based varieties in Northern Italy and Macedonian-based varieties in Albania and North Macedonia.

    Description: Un temps oubliée, décriée, ridiculisée, la révolution est aujourd’hui à nouveau un problème politique clé. Outre le Printemps arabe, Occupy Wall Street, Nuit debout, ainsi que les commémorations d’Octobre 17 et de Mai 68 qui en ont réactivé l’imaginaire (voire le désir), un nombre croissant de romans, de récits, de pièces de théâtre et de recueils de poésie contemporains ont pour thème l’insurrection, le soulèvement et la révolte. Une bibliographie comprenant une cinquantaine de titres permet d’en mesurer l’importance. Cette présence de la révolution dans le champ culturel contemporain nous enjoint à reprendre une question posée il y a près d’un siècle par Léon Trotsky, à savoir : comment penser les rapports entre littérature et révolution ? Quelles relations entretiennent, dans ces textes, le poétique et le politique ? L’écrivain et le révolutionnaire ? La fiction et l’action ? Aux différentes contributions qui esquissent des réponses à ces interrogations s’ajoutent trois entretiens avec des écrivains (Arno Bertina, Leslie Kaplan, Nathalie Quintane) dont l’œuvre littéraire trame à nouveaux frais la question politique.

    Description: The plurality of languages is a reality that has left its mark on many societies, and which is expressed particularly strongly when different cultures come into contact. Situations of bilingualism or multilingualism are very common in the ancient worlds, provoked in particular by the Greek movements throughout the Mediterranean – in Egypt, Italy, France, Spain – and later by the spread of Latin throughout the provinces of the Roman Empire. This volume brings together articles prepared following a research program of the MSH of Montpellier and a congress held in November 2015. From the Eastern Mediterranean to the West, those papers discuss Egyptian, Phoenician, Greek, Gaulish, Iberian and Latin languages and scripts. The political and economic situations of the different regions studied here – Egypt, Greece, Africa, Italy, Gaul, Spain – are very distinct, and the numerous examples presented show how, through the prisms of multilingualism and onomastics, we can perceive and define the mutual influences of communities in contact.

    Description: Quels sont les mécanismes qui ont conduit le rejeton d’une famille de financiers « moyens » du Languedoc à devenir, en 1726, le principal ministre du jeune Louis XV ? Les causes à l’origine de cette réussite sont de plusieurs ordres. D’abord, le mouvement d’ensemble de tout un lignage qui plonge ses racines dans la marchandise du Lodévois depuis au moins le xvie siècle. Puis, le passage à la finance – le maniement des deniers du roi – qui s’effectue avec le grand-père du cardinal dans les premières années du xviie et surtout son oncle Pierre-Moïse, trésorier de France au bureau des finances de Montpellier. Ce dernier favorise la montée à Paris du jeune André-Hercule qui embrasse dès lors la carrière ecclésiastique. Les moteurs de l’ascension sont ensuite individuels et reposent sur le jeu des clientèles, avec en particulier le cardinal de Bonsy puis le cardinal de Noailles qui obtient de Louis XIV l’évêché de Fréjus (1698) pour son protégé. Tirant profit de ses appuis à la cour et de son ferme soutien en faveur de la bulle Unigenitus, mais sans complaisance vis-à-vis des jésuites, Fleury est désigné par Louis XIV mourant précepteur du futur Louis XV. Sa proximité avec le petit roi le positionne dès lors en personnalité majeure. Les décès de Dubois puis de Philippe d’Orléans le laissent seul face au duc de Bourbon (1723). Trois ans seulement vont suffire à M. de Fréjus pour éliminer ce rival. Cette maestria curiale vient clore une ascension complexe, mélange de collectif et de structurel, d’individuel et de conjoncturel : historique, en somme.

    Description: Si l’on peine à trouver chez les historiens une définition de la dignité car elle semble relever du domaine de la morale, voire du droit, l’honneur n’est devenu un concept que récemment. Pourtant ce sont deux notions qui font agir a priori les mêmes ressorts psychologiques, l’estime de soi et une forme d’orgueil. Les sciences sociales se sont emparées de la notion d’honneur et l’ont analysée au prisme des « sociétés méditerranéennes », lui donnant une définition anthropologique dont la compétition, l’obsession de la pureté sexuelle féminine et la violence vengeresse sont les principaux aspects. En réponse à l’injure, à la violence, à la séduction et au viol de la femme, ce modèle exigeant un acte réparateur est-il applicable au monde antique gréco-romain ? Y retrouve-t-on cette obsession du sang et du sexe qui est au cœur du « modèle anthropologique » ? L’ouvrage vise à resituer dans leur contexte historique les deux notions d’honneur et de dignité depuis l’époque archaïque jusqu’à celle de l’Antiquité tardive. Il les envisage selon quatre points de vue : le rapport entre l’individu et sa communauté politique, la nature de l’honneur familial et féminin en particulier, la violence, enfin, les formes du déshonneur.

    Description: At the heart of a geographically ill-defined Phrygian space during Antiquity, the installation of military settlers, former soldiers and troupiers still in operation, met perfectly identified strategic objectives fromthe Achaemenids, the Hellenistic monarchs or the Romans. It was to control a space essential for terrestrial communications between the interior of the Anatolian plateau on the one hand and the Aegean on the other, but also between this same coast and Cilicia, and then beyond Syria. On a tactical level, this military presence was to protect Phrygian plateau and valleys from the lust of poorly controlled neighboring populations like Pisidians. Basedon numerous archaeological, numismatic and epigraphic sources, examining each community on a case-by-case basis, this work studies the consequences of the installation of these soldiers on the local reality, whether at the economic level, cultural, religious or social. Covering a long period from the 4th century BC to the end of the Severan Dynasty, he endeavours to weigh the evolutions related to the presence of these alien soldiers. Between the Achemenid Phrygia and the Hellenistic and then Roman one, the aspect of the region, essentially rural at the outset, has gradually evolved: from the Hellenistic era, we observe an important phenomenon of poliadization, making the communication network more dense and the control of local populations more complex.

    Description: Identifying discursive features of hate speech is a complex process which could be affected by digital practices. On the one hand, it is relatively easy to analyse what we have called “discours de haine directe” (direct hate speech) which relies on three concomitant conditions: the pathemic discursive dimension, the negation of otherness and judgement speech acts (provocation, offence, threat…). But the “discours de haine dissimulée” (covert hate speech) is to be viewed from the perspective of the role played by power relations and ideologies in determining hate speech through rhetorical figures such as argument ad hominem, indirect speech acts (blame, contempt, guilt…) and the concepts of preserved ethos and “discursive memory”. In this sense, data analyses also involve a critical argumentative and sociolinguistic approach to discourse. Hate speech resorts to numerous rhetorical features that need to be clarified. Based on current events, explored through argumentative or discursive analyses that illustrate the theoretical propositions developed, this book presents concepts linked to the diversity of hate speech. Among other notions, let us mention: performativity, the figure of the enemy, disqualification, gender-bias, the “fascist-sphere” or prevention. The papers, which are relatively short and echo each other, offer an insight into what is at work within hate or radicalization speech.

    Description: Dieser Sammelband setzt sich mit den Deutschlandbildern in Belgien bis zum Beginn der deutschen Okkupation im Jahre 1940 auseinander. Betrachtet werden diese aus Sicht unterschiedlicher Geisteswissenschaften wie Philosophie, Literatur, Geschichte, Kunstgeschichte und Musikwissenschaft. Die traditionellen Topoi der deutschen Imagologie, die überall in Europa eine große Resonanz gefunden haben (das romantische Deutschland, das Land der Dichter und Denker, aber ab dem Krieg von 1870 auch das preußische Feindbild), werden dabei in Betracht gezogen. Konstitutiv für den Prozess der Identitätsbildung in Belgien bis zum Ersten Weltkrieg war die deutsch-germanische Komponente, die in der Metapher der sog. âme belge als Kultursynthese zum Ausdruck kam. Der Ausbruch des Ersten Weltkriegs hat hier besonders traumatisch gewirkt, was zur Folge hatte, dass diese partielle „Zugehörigkeit“ Belgiens zur deutschen Kultursphäre drastisch neuevaluiert wurde, unabhängig von der Schaffung eines deutschsprachigen Gebiets in Belgien durch den Versailler Vertrag.
