    Description: This volume examines the linguistic dimension of vigilance in different contexts. The focus is on the social potentials, normative and regulative effects of languages as well as their use for marking dangers and orienting attention. This shows that language can be both an object and an instrument of vigilance and can itself become a medium of reflection of vigilance.

Dieser Teil deutscher Literaturgeschichte stand lange im Schatten der Gruppe 47 und anderer. Simon Sahner zeigt auf, wie die Bewegung Fragen zum deutsch-amerikanischen Kultur- und Literaturtransfer, zur Autorinszenierung, dem Literaturbegriff und den Funktionsweisen des Literaturbetriebs berührt - und sich darüber hinaus bis heute auf die deutsche Literaturlandschaft auswirkt.

    Description: This edited volume examines the forms and functions of the interaction between hand writing and print culture in the period ca. 1500 to 1800. Handwritten interventions into printed books interrupt the text fixed in print by commenting on it, correcting it, or expanding it. They point to changing contexts of use, the flexibilization of supposedly static concepts of authorship, and the dynamics of correction processes.

    Description: In the monography Auf die Tour, I analyze the participation of Jews in popular culture in Vienna, Budapest and New York. I argue that entertainment in vaudevilles was shaped between the perception of difference and similarity, between human trafficking, covert prostitution, anti-Semitism and nationalism. Ultimately, my research shows how a space for Jewish-non-Jewish people was created in the coinciding of the mass migration movement and the emerging mass culture between the Habsburg Monarchy and the United States.
    Description: Auf die Tour berichtet von der Teilhabe von Jüdinnen und Juden an der populären Kultur in Wien, Budapest und New York. Zwischen Differenzwahrnehmungen und Ähnlichkeitsdenken, zwischen Menschenhandel, verdeckter Prostitution, Antisemitismus und Nationalismus gestaltete sich Unterhaltung in Varietés. Meine Forschung zeigt, wie sich ein Raum für jüdisch-nichtjüdische Begegnungen in der Massenmigrationsbewegung und der entstehenden Massenkultur zwischen der Habsburgermonarchie und den Vereinigten Staaten ergab.

    Description: Wie erklärt sich Wirtschaftserfolg? Dieser Frage geht Beat Fumasoli mit Blick auf die gewerbliche Exportwirtschaft von oberdeutschen Städten im Spätmittelalter nach. Der oberdeutsche Wirtschaftsraum gewann besonders ab dem 14. Jahrhundert stark an Bedeutung – seine zentrale Lage in der Mitte Europas ermöglichte einen weit ausgreifenden Exporthandel in alle Himmelsrichtungen. Mit Augsburg, Basel, Freiburg im Üechtland, Nördlingen, Nürnberg, Passau, Ravensburg, Regensburg, Schwäbisch Gmünd, Speyer, St. Gallen und Wangen im Allgäu betrachtet Fumasoli gut ein Fünftel der oberdeutschen Städte mit Exportgewerbe und unterzieht sie einem systematischen Vergleich. Dieser erstreckt sich auf alle potenziell relevanten Einflussfaktoren des exportgewerblichen Wirtschaftserfolgs: von den Rahmenbedingungen für Produktion und Handel bis hin zu den Organisations- und Absatzstrategien der Wirtschaftsakteure und ihrer Kooperation in einem hochgradig arbeitsteiligen Gesamtsystem.
