    Description: Title in English: Summary of Best Practice : Experiences in Inclusive Education An inclusive school strives to involve all actors in the life of the school. Management, faculty, assistants and counselors, pupils, parents and carers are all seen as important partners in education and upbringing. The basis of this partnership is mutual trust and belief in a common goal – the development of the educational potential and personality of each student. The school, which manages to build a positive climate, thus provides a pleasant environment in which all actors feel good and are themselves interested in participating in the life of the school. The publication is based on the best practice of schools in the Czech Republic. We convey their experiences, the challenges they faced and the ways in which they dealt with them. The Summary contains interesting ideas, tips for specific activities and proven measures.

    Description: De Nederlandse wetenschap doet het uitstekend. Op wereldwijde ranglijsten scoren onze onderzoekers, universiteiten en instituten opmerkelijk hoog. In dit essay onderzoeken José van Dijck en Wim van Saarloos, president en vicepresident van de Koninklijke Nederlandse Akademie van Wetenschappen, hoe ons kleine land in de wetenschap groot kon worden. Ze laten echter ook zien hoe het reiken naar steeds hogere toppen soms ten koste is gegaan van een sterke en onmisbare basis. Investeringen in kennis, wetenschap en innovatie blijven achter, en typisch Nederlandse succesfactoren zoals samenwerking, vertrouwen, een sterk middenveld en een grote verwevenheid van onderwijs en onderzoek staan onder druk. Ze sluiten af met denkrichtingen die kunnen helpen het succes van de Nederlandse wetenschap te prolongeren, en haar grote bijdragen aan de samenleving ook voor de toekomst veilig te stellen.

    Description: Title in English: 3A Procedure: Instrument for Reflection and Evaluation of Instruction 3A procedure – designation for the methodological procedure of reflection and qualitative analysis of teaching, which is associated with the evaluation of the quality of teaching and the proposal of improving changes. The concept of 3A methodology follows the tradition of didactic analysis focused on the content of education as developed in the didactic approach of W. Klafki (1967). The idea here is that the teacher first reflects on the question “what will I teach / what will the pupils learn” and derives the choice of teaching practices, i.e. “how will I teach / how will the pupils go about learning”, from the answer to this question. The method of research on teaching presented here is intended to meet the needs of teachers first and foremost by addressing the questions that teachers actually have to address when they prepare lessons, when they work with pupils in them, and when they reflect on ways to improve them. The book will offer teachers the opportunity to engage with research findings and to put them into practice.

    Description: Sociale gelijkheid is goed voor iedereen. Het vormt een buffer tegen drugsgebruik, criminaliteit, gezondheidsproblemen (lichamelijk én psychisch) en wantrouwen (van mensen jegens elkaar en de gemeenschap). Streven naar meer gelijkheid is dan ook geen filantropische onderneming, maar een zinvolle en noodzakelijke activiteit om het welzijn van anderen én van onszelf te verbeteren. Sociale ongelijkheid is een complex vraagstuk. Wetenschappelijk inzicht, opgebouwd over een langere tijd en vanuit meerdere perspectieven, is onontbeerlijk voor structurele oplossingen. De Universiteit van Amsterdam (UvA) heeft een brede expertise op dit terrein. Ongelijkheid is een speerpunt in het onderzoek. Het Amsterdam Centre for Inequality Studies, verbonden aan de sociale faculteit van de UvA, combineert wetenschappelijke expertise op dit gebied met maatschappelijk engagement. Onderzoekers van verschillende disciplines werken er samen om greep te krijgen op het ontstaan én het voorkomen van ongelijkheid. De hoofdstukken in deze bundel laten hiervan mooie voorbeelden zien. De auteurs presenteren niet alleen wat ze al weten, maar formuleren ook nieuwe kennisvragen. In de verschillende bijdragen staan grootstedelijke vraagstukken centraal: over wonen, mobiliteit, duurzaamheid, onderwijs, radicalisering en arbeidsparticipatie. De casussen komen vaak uit Amsterdam, maar zijn mondiaal relevant, ze spelen in alle wereldsteden. Hoe stimuleren we een bloeiende creatieve economie en houden we tegelijkertijd de middenklasse en de laaggeschoolden in de stad?     Description: Title in English: Uneven development of the world and development theory. The book explores contemporary theories of development and their historical trajectories. It provides an overview of the main development paradigms according to the Neederven Pieterse´s classification: modernization school, dependency school, human development, neoliberalism, alternative development and postdevelopment.     Description: In the spring of 2019, 3355 Dutch students in group 6 of primary education from 112 schools participated in eTIMSS-2019. TIMSS stands for Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study and measures worldwide developments in knowledge and skills in science and in attitudes of students who have completed four or eight years of formal education. The 'e' of eTIMSS refers to the digital administration of the test. In the Netherlands, group 6 students took the 2019 TIMSS test on a tablet. The students have been tested in mathematics and science (biology, physics and chemistry and physical geography). The present report reports on the outcomes of TIMSS-2019 in the Netherlands. The remainder of this chapter describes the structure of TIMSS-2019.
    Description: In het voorjaar van 2019 hebben 3355 Nederlandse leerlingen in groep 6 van het basisonderwijs afkomstig van 112 scholen meegedaan aan eTIMSS-2019. TIMSS staat voor Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study en meet wereldwijd de ontwikkelingen in kennis en vaardigheden in de exacte vakken en in attituden van leerlingen die vier of acht jaar formeel onderwijs hebben genoten. De ‘e’ van eTIMSS verwijst naar de digitale afname van de toets. In Nederland hebben groep 6 leerlingen de TIMSS-toets van 2019 op een tablet gemaakt. De leerlingen zijn getoetst in rekenen-wiskunde en natuuronderwijs (biologie, natuur- en scheikunde en fysische aardrijkskunde). In het voorliggende rapport wordt verslag gedaan van de uitkomsten van TIMSS-2019 in Nederland. Het resterende deel van dit hoofdstuk beschrijft de opzet van TIMSS-2019.

    Description: Title in English: Why education and its actors fail : Cognitive landscapes and nationalism. Why education reforms are often unsuccessful? Why is the school environment essentially toxic and systemically hindering the education process? Why, despite the sincere efforts of enlightened headmasters and teachers to change the face of the school, is it not actually transforming it? The book shows that reforms only affect the surface of schools. The core of the school institution is governed by rationality, which is associated with the industrial nationalist era. This rationality, at many levels – from state, to regional, to the level of everyday action of all actors – contradicts the structure of the globalizing world, its networking and non-hierarchical nature. In this new world, the institution of the school is still an institution that systematically norms and homogenizes the population and excludes all “inadaptable”. We are on the threshold of a whole new era, but schools sound with the rhythm of the 19th century.

    Description: The research reported in this publication concerns the second sub-study of the project Administrative Power and the Effect of Professionalisation Incentives in Secondary Education. This sub-study focuses on the various incentives that the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and organisations affiliated with OCW (for instance NRO, the Inspectorate and DUO, VO-raad, the Education Council and collective agreements) give to various actor groups in education. The aim is to maintain and improve the professional competencies of those actor groups. Incentives' is another word for professionalisation policy instruments (PBIs) and these can be categorised as PBIs arising from legislation or regulations, PBIs of a financial nature and PBIs intended to entice professionalisation activities through communication. For each PBI aimed at secondary education, the actor(s) targeted and the nature of the incentive were identified. For comparison with secondary education, this has also been done for PBIs in PO and MBO. To gain more insight into the familiarity, use, effectiveness and possible side effects, experts were interviewed and asked to fill in a digital questionnaire. Finally, a focus group meeting was held to discuss our findings in more detail on the basis of various propositions.
    Description: Het onderzoek brengt de stand van zaken met betrekking tot bestuurlijk vermogen en professionalisering in het voortgezet onderwijs in kaart. We doen dat door verschillende opeenvolgende deelstudies. We gaan door secundaire analyses na in hoeverre besturen voor voortgezet onderwijs van elkaar verschillen in gerealiseerde onderwijskwaliteit. Door literatuurstudie en interviews met deskundigen schetsen we vervolgens welke professionaliseringprikkels in het voortgezet onderwijs voorkomen en waar ze toe leiden. De kern van ons onderzoek bestaat uit een combinatie van een surveyonderzoek met (verkennende en verdiepende) casestudies. We onderzoeken in hoeverre besturen beschikken over bestuurlijk vermogen, hoe ze reageren op externe professionaliseringsprikkels en hoe ze interne professionalisering vormgeven. We analyseren de relaties tussen bestuurlijk vermogen, professionalisering en onderwijskwaliteit en gaan de invloed na van bestuurlijke kenmerken. Door expertmeetings met vertegenwoordigers van beleid, praktijk en wetenschap komen we uiteindelijk tot breed gedragen aanbevelingen voor het verbeteren van het voortgezet onderwijs.

    Description: Title in English: Towards the Inclusive School: Interaction and Norm Inclusion is not deepening integration. It is a comprehensive response to the transformation of the contemporary world, which takes seriously the fact that diversity is its defining essence. The monograph presents the results of three years of research, from which it follows that well-implemented inclusion positively transforms the atmosphere, teaching methods, and academic outcomes of mainstream schools. Thanks to its principles of inclusion, it frees the educational system from the ideology of the middle class, which, contrary to its own rhetoric, is based on a hierarchical system and favors sameness over the difference. Valuing diversity opens up space for the essential value of a democratic society – the development of the educational potential of each of its members according to their possibilities, needs, and interests while building strong social cohesion and resilience.

    Description: This report examines how education can contribute to the prevention of radicalization and polarization of young people. The starting point was to link up with identity development in adolescence and developing social competences in education. By better to match the identity needs of young people, possible radical thoughts are steered towards positive political or social involvement. This approach has been underexposed to date in research and also insufficiently present in existing policy strategies for education
    Description: In dit rapport is nagegaan hoe het onderwijs kan bijdragen aan het voorkomen van radicalisering en polarisatie van jongeren. Het uitgangspunt was om daarbij aan te sluiten bij de identiteitsontwikkeling in de adolescentie en het ontwikkelen van sociale competenties binnen het onderwijs. Door beter aan te sluiten bij de identiteitsbehoeften van jongeren kunnen eventuele radicale gedachten worden bijgestuurd naar positieve politieke of maatschappelijke betrokkenheid. Deze benadering is tot op heden onderbelicht gebleven in onderzoek en ook onvoldoende aanwezig in bestaande beleidsstrategieën voor het onderwijs
