    Description: The aim of the methodology is to give an understanding of elder abuse, typologies, manifestations, risks of occurrence and procedures for detection and solution. The methodology helps those who regularly come into contact with older people to put knowledge about elder abuse into practice. This can be anyone who is not, or should not be, indifferent to seeing an older person treated inappropriately. The methodology is primarily intended for people working in support services, with recommendations for other relevant actors such as general practitioners and specialists, the police, the social services of local authorities, etc. However, it can also be used by interested members of the public and by non-profit organisations, which also have an essential role to play in dealing with this phenomenon. The procedures and recommendations presented here are based on the research activities of the RESTABUS project, which draw on the findings of other research teams from all over the world and from a wide range of scientific disciplines, as well as on many years of experience in working with older people.

    Description: Title in English: Prediction of potential locations for water-retention dams in landscape based on re-utilisation of defunct relics of water-management buildings: Certified methodology This certified methodology shows the steps to be taken by contractors and builders of small water reservoirs with a special focus on preserving and archiving cultural value of historic landscape and its evolution. The methodology describes how to find and use defunct relics of historical waterdams in modern constructions (water retention dams), from identification in the landscape, through incorporation into the project documentation of the dam construction, to basic protection during the building process itself. State legislature on historic landscape is also mentioned. Re-utilisation of historic waterdams allows for their conservation for future generations and points at features of the historic dams at risk of destruction, and which need archaeological attention during the construction works (especially the historical drainage outlet). This methodology is praxis driven, as it is actively using knowledge gained through close co-operation with contractors and builders, and reflects their needs during construction.

    Description: Title in English: Pronunciation in Learning German at Secondary Schools. This publication presents an empirical research of pronunciation mistakes of Czech students learning German as a second foreign language at elementary school. The aim of the research was to verify the extent of the students’ pronunciation difficulties with German pronunciation phenomena error-prone for Czech native speakers. The research determined in what way these errors manifest themselves in the transfer from the students’ previously acquired languages, i.e. their mother tongue (Czech) and the first foreign language learnt (English). Within the theoretical foundation, the focus is put on different concepts of pronunciation in terms of foreign language teaching objectives, definitions of language errors and their causes, the development of the German pronunciation standard and methodological approaches to error analysis.

    Description: Grensverleggende analyse van Duitse propaganda in België in de beginfase van WOI Tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog probeerde de Duitse bezetter België intern te splijten. Dat gebeurde door het voeren van een Flamenpolitik, een beleid dat erop gericht was de Vlamingen of in elk geval de Vlaamse beweging in het harnas te jagen tegen België. Dat lukte, want een klein deel Vlaamsgezinden, de zogenaamde activisten, collaboreerde inderdaad. Vanaf de nazomer van 1914 zou Berlijn in het bezette land de Vlaamse beweging onophoudelijk bestoken met een grootscheepse mediacampagne. De Duitse diensten, gesteund door hun Oostenrijkse bondgenoten, maakten daarbij vooral gebruik van vlugschriften en de geschreven pers, niet alleen in België maar ook in het neutrale Nederland. In de zomer van 1915 was het activisme een feit: een anti-Belgisch Vlaams-nationalisme, waarvan de gevolgen tot op heden voelbaar zijn, had het daglicht gezien. De propaganda die eraan ten grondslag lag was zó vernuftig en ingenieus dat ze niet alleen tijdgenoten overtuigde, maar zelfs meer dan een eeuw later nog steeds historici misleidt. Het is een mooi staaltje van “fake news” avant la lettre.

    Description: Title in English: Graphomotor skills: New approaches to the diagnosis This book focuses on graphomotor skills, their disorders and brings new possibilities to their diagnosis. The introduction discusses various theories of writing and the development of graphomotor skills and writing. It also defines graphomotor disorders and developmental dysgraphia and offers an overview of diagnostic methods for assessing handwriting disabilities. In the final chapter, the authors present an original approach to diagnosing graphomotor disabilities based on an objective analysis of online handwriting. The resulting “Graphomotor and Handwriting Disabilities Rating Scale” (GHDRS) allows for a detailed assessment of the sources of a child’s difficulties. The book is intended primarily for workers in the school guidance system, especially special educators and psychologists, but also for others interested in graphomotor skills.

    Description: Achttien bekende Belgen bieden een unieke blik op het Belgische collectieve geheugen Welke gebeurtenissen, plekken en figuren blijven er hangen in het geheugen van achttien prominente Belgen als ze aan hun land denken? Op deze vraag zochten Franstalige en Nederlandstalige academici gedurende enkele jaren een antwoord. Ze organiseerden ontmoetingen met Belgische duo’s uit uiteenlopende maatschappelijke domeinen: de journalisten Nina Verhaeghe en Christian Laporte, de politici Herman Van Rompuy en Philippe Moureaux, de dichters Dirk Van Bastelaere en Laurence Vielle, de regisseurs Jan Verheyen en Adil El Arbi, de schrijvers Kristien Hemmerechts en Vincent Engel, de atleten Laurence Rase en Jean-Michel Saive, de zakenmensen Yves Noël & Christ'l Joris, de syndicalisten Caroline Copers en Felipe Van Keirsbilck, en de imam en islamleraar Brahim Laytouss en theologe Myriam Tonus. Je ontdekt in deze unieke dialogen hoe er tijdens de ontmoetingen gedeelde herinneringen zijn – zoals de Rode Duivels op het WK in 1986 of de zaak Dutroux – maar ook waar de herinneringen tussen de gesprekspartners sterk uiteenlopen – over de Eerste Wereldoorlog bijvoorbeeld, of over Brussel. De verschillen lopen vaak langs de lijnen van de gemeenschappen van ons land, maar zeker niet altijd. Ook verschillen tussen de maatschappelijke domeinen van de gesprekspartners worden duidelijk. In een uitgebreide conclusie brengen de redacteurs de belangrijkste rode draden en lacunes in de gesprekken samen: wat zit er in het Belgische collectieve geheugen, wat niet en hoe komt dat geheugen naar boven in de gesprekken. Dialogen over België biedt een unieke blik op België met herkenbare herinneringen en verrassende inzichten voor Belgen en niet-Belgen.

    Description: Title in English: Methodological publication of work with inclusive classroom with the focus on pupils with physical disability: Methodical Manual Publication is one of the outputs of the project Quality Inclusive Education of Pupils with Special Education Needs at elementary and secondary school. This text focuses on teaching pupils with physical disabilities in an inclusive classroom. The text is divided into three chapters, the first one defines theoretical background. Described is physical disability with an emphasis on cerebral palsy together with the specifics of the target group of pupils. Part of the chapter also defines special pedagogical diagnostics. The second chapter focuses on the education of pupil with cerebral palsy in inclusive school. The publication deals with the topic of measuring metacognition, with special emphasis on a specific group of intellectually gifted children. Next, the most important methods developed to assess metacognition are discussed and critically appraised. Educating young people to become informed and empowered EU citizens requires a strategy of active learning to prepare them for civic responsibility and democratic participation. This book is a practical guide for secondary or higher education teachers aiming to train their students to be critical citizens through a variety of different subjects and courses. Stories based on cases dealt with by the Court of Justice of the European Union stimulate students to think critically. These stories illustrate the impact of the EU on numerous aspects of the daily lives of its citizens: from the internal market and the free movement of goods and persons, to issues relating to democracy, equality, privacy, social rights, consumer protection, the environment and migration. Dit boek biedt een praktische handleiding voor alle leerkrachten in het secundair onderwijs en docenten in het hoger onderwijs die hun leerlingen en studenten kritisch burgerschap willen bijbrengen binnen verschillende vakken en opleidingen. Concrete casussen op basis van rechtszaken behandeld door het Hof van Justitie van de Europese Unie stimuleren studenten tot kritisch nadenken. De casussen illustreren treffend de impact van de EU in het dagelijkse leven van haar burgers op tal van maatschappelijke domeinen: van de interne markt en het vrije verkeer van goederen en personen, over thema’s als democratie, gelijkheid, privacy, sociale rechten, tot consumentenbescherming, milieu en migratie.     Description: Title in English: Physical activity as an effective means of non-pharmacological care in oncology. Much of the existing research confirms the assumption that regular physical activity can play a crucial role in nonpharmacological therapy and quality of life management in cancer survivors. The treatment of oncological diseases itself brings about numerous undesirable side effects, such as cardiotoxicity, anxiety, depression, sarcopenia, polyneuropathy, cancer fatigue and sleep disorders. Regular physical activity is associated with significant benefits for health including a lower risk of developing certain types of tumours and elimination of the accompanying undesirable effects of oncological treatment. A number of epidemiological studies found a correlation between regular physical activity and lower mortality linked to oncological diseases. The minimal amount of the activity needed to gain this benefit has not been established, however, the recommendations of ACSM indicate that at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity are needed per week. Physical exercise as nonpharmacological treatment is a domain of cancer survivors therapy whose aim is to incorporate targeted controlled exercise programmes into the overall treatment plan of the patients. Exercise programmes can be performed both in the duration of the illness as well as in the period prior to the treatment or in the course of adjuvant antitumour treatment (including chemotherapy) and in survivors. When prescribing physical activity it is necessary to take current health condition of the patient into account including their comorbidities, age or the level of physical fitness. If controlled physical activity is to become an indispensable part of oncological treatment it will be necessary to prove the therapy is safe and cost-effective.

    Description: The requiem (or the death mass) is one of the oldest and longest surviving genres in Western music history. For hundreds of years it only existed in its original Gregorian guise, but from about 1450 many great composers were inspired to write of masterly new death masses Dies Irae introduces the reader to these masterpieces in an accessible way, without any prior musical knowledge being required. After an introduction to the meaning and structure of the text and music of the ancient Latin Mass for the Dead, a chronicle in three parts follows that guides the reader through the history of the requiem. In separate chapters, all the major and well-known requiems (including by Mozart, Brahms, Verdi, Fauré, Britten and Webber), as well as some less popular but equally poignant works (such as the requiems by Ockeghem, Schütz, Weill, Ligeti, Stravinsky and Zimmermann). Each requiem is discussed according to a fixed pattern, so that the reader can freely browse through different periods and compositions: first each work is situated music-historically, followed by a short discussion of each part separately. By linking the discussions to one reference recording per work, the reader can immediately test the explanation against listening practice. Under the direction of Pieter Bergé, and with the cooperation of Jan Christiaens, all contributions to 'Dies Irae. Chronicle of the Requiem' written by authors who are affiliated with the Musicology research unit of KU Leuven as teachers, researchers or alumnus.
    Description: Het requiem (of de dodenmis) is een van de oudste en langst overlevende genres uit de westerse muziekgeschiedenis. Honderden jaren heeft het enkel bestaan in zijn oorspronkelijke gregoriaanse gedaante, maar vanaf ca. 1450 hebben heel wat grote componisten zich laten inspireren tot het schrijven van magistrale nieuwe dodenmissen. Dies Irae laat de lezer op toegankelijke wijze kennismaken met deze meesterwerken zonder dat muzikale voorkennis vereist is. Na een inleiding over de betekenis en structuur van de tekst en muziek van de aloude Latijnse dodenmis, volgt een kroniek in drie delen die de lezer door de geschiedenis van het requiem gidst. In aparte hoofdstukken komen alle grote en bekende requiems aan bod (onder meer van Mozart, Brahms, Verdi, Fauré, Britten en Webber), evenals enkele minder populaire maar minstens even aangrijpende werken (zoals de requiems van Ockeghem, Schütz, Weill, Ligeti, Stravinsky en Zimmermann). Elk requiem wordt volgens een vast stramien besproken, zodat de lezer vrijelijk kan grasduinen door verschillende perioden en composities: eerst wordt ieder werk muziekhistorisch gesitueerd, daarna volgt een korte bespreking van elk deel afzonderlijk.     Description: Title in English: Motivation Support in Teaching German as a Foreign Language (and Beyond) With regard to the proven significant impact of motivation on learning processes and their success, promoting learner’s motivation can be described as an important part of pedagogical activity. The current book presents research investigations into learners’ motivation in learning German as a foreign language. A qualitative research design conducted as a multi-case study was chosen in order to gain a deeper insight into the issue of motivation. The results obtained showed the wide scope of teachers’ motivating influence on their learners. Many of the existing findings on motivation could be verified. Moreover, the specifics of motivation towards German as a second foreign language as well as the culturally conditioned specifics concerning Czech learners’ attitudes towards the German language have been highlighted.

    Description: Title in English: Test versions equivalence of the Slovak upper-secondary school leaving examination The research presented in this book strives to answer how test versions equivalence – a necessary condition for meaningful and fair interpretation and comparison of students’ results – could be achieved in the context of high-stakes examination. The research was carried on the Slovak upper-secondary school leaving examination in English at B1 level, namely on the tests of receptive skills operationalized between 2012 and 2015. Theoretical research on the methods and procedures and the application of some of them on the Slovak examinations in the empirical part provided deep insight into the degree of comparability of the test versions used between 2012 and 2015 and made it possible to identify problem areas in terms of test versions comparability. The research helped to identify suitable methods and approaches that might enable to develop equivalent test versions and subsequently, to interpret meaningfully the test results and the measured construct, i.e. students’ language proficiency.

    Description: Title in English: Sources and Distribution of Selected High and Late Medieval Pottery Products. The publication is focused on late medieval pottery products with higher aesthetical effect. The key group is represented by stove tiles, where the unifying elements of relief decoration helped to define series of motifs for stoves with specific iconographic concept, which were found in various locations. The same approach can be also used with small ceramic sculptures, aquamaniles and relief-decorated floor tiles, even though the achieved information value in these cases is much lower. Micropetrographic, XRF and other analyses helped to identify the production centres and the distribution model of these ceramic groups. 3D documentation enabled a detailed comparison of differences between individual reliefs and specific traces of manufacturing procedures. Individual chapters contain active links to the source database of analysed items and to 3D models of selected specimens from reference collections.

In his monograph Czech Problem Drama of the 1960s, David Kroča (b. 1973), a literary scholar and educator at Masaryk University, focuses on a period that can in many respects be viewed as a turning point in the poetics of the original Czech drama. From the varied production of drama in the 1960s, which was rich in genre, he chose to research a specific stream called problem drama in which an ordinary dramatic conflict is substituted with an escalated confrontation of different opinions related to a particular problem. The introductory theoretical and context chapters consider the developmental tendencies in Czech drama as well as some important foreign resources. The core of the work consists of analytical and interpretative chapters which deal with the analysis of those dramas where the authors tackle serious existential problems and question social and moral responsibility.

    Description: Title in English: The future of metropolitan cooperation in the czech republic: development, governance, management Metropolitan regions are engines of economic growth, where research, innovation, technology and creative human potential are concentrated. The cooperation of municipalities in metropolitan regions in economically developed Europe dates back to the mid-1990s, while in the Czech Republic this new form of cooperation has been discussed more intensively since 2014, when three metropolitan areas and ten urban agglomerations were defined. However, there is still no systemic coordination of the problems and needs of metropolitan areas. The first activities aimed at real strengthening of metropolitan cooperation and development took place in the Brno Metropolitan Area within the framework of the TAČR ÉTA project “Institutionalization of metropolitan cooperation as a factor to increase the motivation of municipalities to cooperate in metropolitan areas”. The aim of the publication is to present the results of the project, experiences from abroad and their possible application in the Czech environment, as well as real steps to set up metropolitan inter-municipal cooperation.

    Description: Title in English: Design-based Research of an ESP Coursebook This book deals with the concept of design-based research which presents a challenge for English for specific purposes (ESP) teachers to deal with complex curriculum issues in dynamic contexts of teaching practice. The development of learning materials seems to be a fact of life for many ESP teachers. Even though there are many empirically grounded studies for the development of English language learning materials, only a few studies deal with ESP materials development that would provide potential authors with instructions on how to proceed with their design. Design-Based Research of an ESP Coursebook offers a solution to this problem since it describes the systematic implementation, evaluation, and development of an ESP coursebook with the aim of producing design principles and empirically grounded theories. It is believed that the design principles presented in this book should provide a basis for adaptation to other situations, that is, they can help teachers to develop ESP coursebooks tailored for their own courses.

    Description: During the First World War, the German occupier tried to split Belgium internally. This was done by pursuing a Flamenpolitik, a policy aimed at scaring the Flemish, or at least the Flemish movement, against Belgium. That worked, because a small number of Flemish supporters, the so-called activists, did indeed collaborate. From the late summer of 1914, Berlin in the occupied country would incessantly bombard the Flemish movement with a large-scale media campaign. The German services, supported by their Austrian allies, mainly made use of pamphlets and the written press, not only in Belgium but also in the neutral Netherlands. In the summer of 1915 activism was a fact: an anti-Belgian Flemish nationalism, the consequences of which have been felt to date, had seen the light of day. The propaganda underlying it was so ingenious and clever that it not only convinced contemporaries, but still misleads historians even more than a century later. It is a fine example of “fake news” avant la lettre.

Dat lukte, want een klein deel Vlaamsgezinden, de zogenaamde activisten, collaboreerde inderdaad. Vanaf de nazomer van 1914 zou Berlijn in het bezette land de Vlaamse beweging onophoudelijk bestoken met een grootscheepse mediacampagne. De Duitse diensten, gesteund door hun Oostenrijkse bondgenoten, maakten daarbij vooral gebruik van vlugschriften en de geschreven pers, niet alleen in België maar ook in het neutrale Nederland. In de zomer van 1915 was het activisme een feit: een anti-Belgisch Vlaams-nationalisme, waarvan de gevolgen tot op heden voelbaar zijn, had het daglicht gezien. De propaganda die eraan ten grondslag lag was zó vernuftig en ingenieus dat ze niet alleen tijdgenoten overtuigde, maar zelfs meer dan een eeuw later nog steeds historici misleidt. Het is een mooi staaltje van “fake news” avant la lettre.

    Description: The aim of the research report is to present the results of the representative survey carried out in the RESTABUS project. This survey is the first of its kind and scope in the Czech Republic in its focus on mapping the prevalence of elder abuse, exploitation, neglect, other violence and undermining of dignity of older people (EAN). The survey was carried out among 2687 respondents aged 65 to 99 years living at home (outside residential care) and is representative of the older population in the Czech Republic. The topic of EAN is complemented by issues of the perceived prevalence of EAN in the public space, capturing attitudes towards restorative justice, and early trauma incidents (experience of violence in childhood and middle age). Thus, the research not only describes the level of prevalence of violence and ill-treatment of older people in the Czech Republic, but also maps the impact of experienced incidents on the quality of life of persons at risk, ascertains the attitudes of the older people towards the functionality of available forms of help and support, and suggests the direction of their possible further development. The report includes a methodological section, a results section and a tabular annex.

Reeds kort na de Belgische onafhankelijkheid in 1830 zien we de aanzet van wat men een katholieke zuil is gaan noemen. Godsdienstige groepen en kerken verkeren steeds in een spanning tussen een hang naar maatschappelijk isolement en bekeringsijver, tussen bescherming en verovering. Deze termen worden in de christelijke organisatiewereld dan ook ervaren als geladen, negatieve begrippen. In deze KADOC-bundel noemen sociologen en historici het verschijnsel nochtans onomwonden bij de naam. Zij zoeken nuchter naar de historische oorsprong en de verklaringsgronden van de katholieke zuilvorming. De focus wordt daarbij gericht op de beslissende momenten.     Description: Title in English: Geography of barriers: Examples of good barrier-free implementations The book Geography of Barriers: Examples of Good Barrier-free Practice offers a collection of texts that are interested in making space, services, and information accessible. Thus, the collection is primarily about barriers, their nature, localization, and possible effects. Under barriers, most people imagine material barriers for wheelchair users in the form of steps or sidewalk curbs. Only a few would think that barriers can be represented by loosely placed rugs, unfit lighting, large glass surface, a doorbell without visual output, unwanted attention, frequent asking and offering help, lack of language knowledge, pity, etc. Thus, the book broadens awareness of what can be considered a barrier. The texts are divided into three parts – theoretical, methodic, and empirical – and their arrangement follows the logic of thematic focusing from the most general to the most concrete types of barriers. While the theoretical part places the policies of accessibility into the wider context of scientific disciplines and their development – such as disability studies, disability geography or service design, the methodic part discusses the introduction of accessibility policies in the city of Brno, describing how it tried to make its space, services, and information more accessible. Finally, the empirical part offers 18 examples of relatively good barrier-free implementations that have been recently realized in Brno. This division reflects an effort to target several groups of readers. The first part thus addresses mainly students interested in accessibility issues, the second, methodic part is intended for politicians and municipalities searching for inspiration to implement their own accessibility measures and policies. The last part stating concrete examples of good barrier-free implementations is aimed at general public, at people who like to think about a whole range of topics related to accessibility of space, services, and information.

    Description: Title in English: Online marketing communication targeting school-age children The online environment contains many forms of marketing messages, many of which cannot be easily distinguished from regular content. Due to their lack of experience, children are more susceptible to marketing messages that influence their buying habits. The respondents in our research were children between the ages of 10 and 13, who are both consumers and customers and who play an important role in the purchasing decisions of their families. Investigating the types of online marketing communications children consume, their attitudes towards them and whether and how this influences their purchasing is therefore of paramount importance. We conclude with practical recommendations for schools and parents on how to educate children about online marketing.

The theoretical findings are verified empirically on a sample of companies included in its own database created in the research project. Economic data from the financial statements of companies in the Czech Republic, which merged in the past 10 years, are statistically evaluated and subjected to debate. The first part is devoted to the historical development of mergers and their importance in the global and national economy. The following chapters present the results of the survey of motivation of mergers in the Czech region, discussion of the issues arising from the legislation at transformation of companies and comparison of accounting methods Czech accounting rules, international rules (IFRS) and the accounting principles (U.S. GAAP). The final chapter on tax aspects of mergers provides recommendations for reducing administrative burden and tax problems with the mergers. The book is suitable for scientists, specialized companies and professionals who work in the transformation of companies.

Career adaptability plays an important role in coping with changing demands in the field of work. What is career adaptability? Why is it important, and what does it affect? The answers to these questions and many others are provided in the monograph, entitled “Career adaptability: Its Forms, Changes, Contexts, and Roles in the Lives of Young Adults Undergoing Upper-Secondary Vocational Education,” which is the first publication written on this topic in the Czech language. In the book, a team of authors presents the construct of career adaptability and the results of unique research carried out in the Czech Republic. In the first part, the reader may find an analytical overview of various concepts of career adaptability and related concepts. The central part of the publication is devoted to the results of quantitatively conducted longitudinal research, which aimed to identify career adaptability and its relationships to several demographic, school, relational, and personality variables in the case of students and later graduates of upper-secondary vocational education—those who are in the crucial stages of their career construction. Many empirical findings concentrated in this book are beneficial not only for the career counseling theories and research on career adaptability but also for vocational education or career counseling practitioners.

Classroom management is one of the decisive factors in the case of beginning teachers regarding whether they remain in the profession and in the case of experienced teachers regarding their satisfaction in the profession. For beginning teachers, it is an area that they seldom learnt at their faculties and that they learn first in their teaching practice. Yet when teachers are not able to manage their class, they are not able to teach their pupils something either. The monograph presents findings about student teachers in their teaching practice and their mentor teachers at lower secondary schools. Our research is based on classroom observation, interviews, and questionnaires. We study behavioural and instructional management and describe their relation to need for closure.

The modernly designed development materials are designate primarily for pupils of the first grade who like to think, explore, discover new knowledge (not only) in the field of mathematics. 60 worksheets in three levels of difficulty for 20 mathematical topics are accompanied by a set of videos. The worksheets enable differentiated individual work of pupils. The tasks lead to the development of their abstract and exact thinking, critical reasoning and argumentation. The tasks are based on current curriculum documents but go beyond the educational content in some places. The difficulty of the tasks on each worksheet grades from the least difficult to the most difficult, usually from the extension curriculum.

Manual for the MABC-2 motor skills test for children Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are neuro-developmental pervasive multifactorial diseases of unknown aetiology that are often associated with a significant impairment of motor skills and a delay in motor development. With the rapidly increasing prevalence of these disorders in the Czech Republic and worldwide, the possibilities of diagnosing the motor skills of children with ASD are an increasingly important priority. The research modified the standard administration and implementation process of the Movement Assessment Battery for Children, 2nd edition (MABC-2) by designing modifications that utilize fundamental principles of structured learning and the TEACCH program. In particular, these elements: Individualization, Structuralization, Visualization and Motivation, were implicated in the entire process of testing children's motor skills with the MABC-2 Test.
