    Description: In this book, the dynamics of a nascent political organization in relation to the question of powers and institutions of the Southern Kingdom during the years of 1943-44 are analyzed. The Southern party of DC, taking advantage of both old and new forms of politics, would soon benefit, in addition to the experience of Luigi Sturzo’s populism, of an emerging political class and of the increased weight of the Church in the material and civil crisis caused by the war. In Naples, one of the foremost political headquarters of the liberated Italy, the Catholic Party faced the difficulty of an unconditional membership carried out by the ecclesiastical hierarchy and large sections of the populace to traditional monarchical authority, while its leading group acted from the inside in the context of the pluralistic political and democracy system going out in Cln.

    Description: Theodor Mommsen aveva ventisette anni nel 1844, quando giunse la prima volta in Italia, dando inizio alla straordinaria avventura epigrafica che l’avrebbe condotto a pubblicare le Inscriptiones Regni Neapolitani Latinae (1852) e quindi alla progettazione del Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum. Marie-René de La Blanchère (Tours, 17 febbraio 1853 - Parigi, 30 maggio 1896) ne aveva ventisei nel ’79, al momento dell’arrivo presso la neonata École française de Rome con l’obiettivo di indagare le antichità della regione pontina: iniziava allora una contrastata (e per certi versi drammatica) vicenda di vita e di ricerca, il cui principale frutto resta il “saggio di storia locale” su Terracine (1884), preceduto e seguito da importanti contributi sul Latium adiectum e l’Africa romana; nel 1885 l’Autore si sarebbe trasferito in Tunisia, dove divenne protagonista della vasta opera di studio e salvaguardia delle antichità locali, culminata nella fondazione del Museo del Bardo. Questo libro raccoglie gli atti del convegno internazionale Dalle terre pontine all’Africa romana: Marie-René de La Blanchère, archeologo, epigrafista, orientalista (San Felice Circeo, 3-4 giugno 2016), organizzato dall’École francaise de Rome e dal Comune di San Felice Circeo (LT) in sinergia con la Soprintendenza archeologica del Lazio Meridionale, con “Sapienza” Università di Roma e l’Università della Tuscia di Viterbo. Nel ripercorrere le tappe della carriera scientifica di La Blanchère, il volume – arricchito dalla prima bibliografia sistematica degli scritti dell’Autore – affronta alcuni momenti chiave della politica culturale della Francia di fine Ottocento, sullo sfondo della virtuosa competizione tra le istituzioni archeologiche europee in Italia, soffermandosi in particolare sulle tappe della ‘scoperta’ delle antichità del Lazio meridionale, negli anni in cui si compiva la titanica impresa dei volumi IX e X del CIL (1883).

    Description: Le borgate nate in epoca fascista rappresentano una pagina fondamentale della storia di Roma contemporanea. Additate come i luoghi più malfamati della città, specchio dei suoi contrasti socio-economici e urbanistici, in esse può riassumersi il modo disordinato in cui la capitale è cresciuta e si è sviluppata. Avamposti dell’espansione edilizia del secondo dopoguerra, le borgate hanno costituito il luogo d’approdo per migliaia di famiglie dalle molteplici provenienze. Argomento fino a oggi poco dissodato, il processo di popolamento della periferia romana è affrontato in questo libro per mezzo di nuove fonti archivistiche, con cui è stato possibile verificare ipotesi di studio di recente acquisizione. Sullo sfondo, la storia del più importante Istituto di case popolari italiano svoltasi durante il ventennio, un periodo nel quale l’ente, fiancheggiatore delle politiche urbanistiche e abitative del fascismo per la capitale e, seppur a fasi alterne, organo edilizio del Governatorato, fu impegnato nella costruzione di intere parti di città e in quella di un vasto esperimento pedagogico di educazione fascista nei suoi caseggiati, contribuendo anch’esso all’instaurazione di un sistema dalle caratteristiche totalitarie.

    Description: Questa ricerca esplora la possibilità, anche in grazia di un percorso di aggiornamento relativo alle acquisizioni delle discipline storico-economiche, archeologiche e linguistiche degli ultimi decenni, di de-strutturare la costruzione ideologica delle fonti antiche sul donatismo; si è tentato di superare la deformazione prospettica operata da Ottato di Milevi e da Agostino, individuando l’attribuzione di senso e significato che agli avvenimenti diedero i protagonisti diretti. Ciò ha portato al riconoscimento di elementi della costruzione identitaria donatista finora rimasti al margine della ricostruzione storiografica, e a una più approfondita conoscenza dei metodi di “normalizzazione” impiegati dalla catholica dopo la Conlatio cartaginese del 411.

    Description: Like many young Neapolitan physicians, Giosuè Sangiovanni (1776-1849) was involved in the revolution of 1799. He served in the Guard of the Republic, whose tragic end marked his destiny as an exile and a scientist. Sangiovanni keeps track of this experience in his Diaries (1800-1808), hitherto unpublished, where he notes in a fast and sometimes syncopated way the record of his wanderings in Italy, France, Switzerland, Tyrol, Piedmont. There we find not only places, meetings, small events and daily life’s adventures - almost the backbone of the autobiography of an Neapolitan exile - but above all the story of an educational trip. In Paris, thanks to his contact with prominent naturalists of the time, such as Cuvier, Lamarck, Saint-Hilaire, Lacépède, this pupil of Domenico Cirillo’s reaches his scientific maturity and his academic recognition. Sangiovanni’s Diaries end with his final return to Naples, where he, now an advocate of Lamarck’s evolutionary theory, was appointed professor of the first chair of Comparative Anatomy in Italy.

Il valore normativo della tradizione viene, d’altra parte, contestato, negli ultimi decenni del diciottesimo secolo, da vari sommovimenti politici che sconvolgono l’ordine tradizionale delle nazioni europee: la Rivoluzione americana crea un governo razionale fondato sul diritto naturale; la Rivoluzione francese recide traumaticamente i legami con i valori di una monarchia secolare; i suoi drammatici sviluppi, il Terrore, le guerre europee, il crollo dell’impero napoleonico impongono, nel corso degli anni, la consapevolezza concreta dell’incidere storico.     Description: Sotto la direzione di John Scheid, Olivier de Cazanove, Filippo Coarelli e Adriano La Regina, lo studio dei luoghi di culto dell’Italia antica è un progetto di ampia portata che si concretizza nella pubblicazione della serie di fascicoli che vanno sotto il nome di Fana, templa, delubra (FTD). Il progetto censisce e inventaria l’insieme delle fonti archeologiche e letterarie comprese tra il VII secolo a.C. e il VII secolo d.C. in rapporto a singoli luoghi di culto. Il quadro generale di questo corpus è quello delle regioni augustee e, all’interno di queste, le unità di riferimento sono le città dell’epoca romana che costituiscono dei microsistemi omologi ma autonomi. Per questo motivo si è deciso di studiare le testimonianze riguardanti la vita religiosa nel loro contesto geografico, istituzionale e sociale. Questo quinto volume della serie riguarda le città antiche di Emona e Nauportus della regio X Venetia-Histria – che corrispondono alle città moderne di Ljubljana e Vrhnika in Slovenia. Le vestigia dei luoghi di culto aiutano a definire i limiti del territorio che appartiene a ciascuna di queste città e a tracciare sulla carta l’estensione di queste regioni e di quelle limitrofe.     Description: Fra il 1250 e il 1256 Giordano Ruffo, nobile calabrese al servizio dell’imperatore Federico II, portava a compimento in latino il De medicina equorum, l’opera che segna la rinascita della trattatistica veterinaria medievale. Essa godette di una diffusione talmente ampia da potersi ritenere un vero e proprio best seller, la cui fortuna si evince dal numero di testimoni superstiti censiti, ben 189 (173 manoscritti e 16 a stampa) in 8 varietà linguistiche differenti: latino, italoromanzo, francese, occitanico, catalano, gallego, ebraico e tedesco. A fronte di una tradizione così ricca e articolata, il trattato risulta poco studiato. Manca l’edizione critica del testo latino e sono pochissime, solo cinque, le traduzioni edite: tale situazione editoriale rende assai difficoltosa l’identificazione dei percorsi che hanno caratterizzato la diffusione romanza e non romanza dell’opera e problematica l’individuazione delle famiglie dei testimoni. Il volume intende fare il punto della situazione sulla frastagliata tradizione testuale del De medicina equorum: dopo aver fornito dettagliate informazioni su Giordano Ruffo e il suo trattato, si presentano i dati ricavati dalla collazione di un campione di codici e i risultati di un minuzioso censimento dei testimoni manoscritti e a stampa che tramandano l’opera e delle edizioni moderne ad essa relative.

    Description: The volume collects the results of a course in “Assisted architectural design” which experimented with some innovative aspects in the teaching of Drawing. The new frontier is now represented by computer tools and very complex processing programs that incorporate all the previous techniques and propose new ones, becoming for the architect the main instrument of restorative and expressive potential. The experience involved the course students not only in learning the most up-to-date computer graphics programs, but above all in the development of this new expression technique in close relation to a design experience.

    Description: La battaglia di Caporetto (24 ottobre - 9 novembre 1917) ha rappresentato un trauma nella storia italiana del Novecento. Ancor oggi, nel linguaggio comune, la parola Caporetto è sinonimo di disastro. In quella battaglia i soldati della 2a Armata vengono respinti dagli austriaci e dai tedeschi al di qua dell'Isonzo e del Tagliamento fino al Piave, mentre i Comandi militari li accusano di diserzione e tradimento. Cento anni dopo, questo volume affronta, in un'ottica pluridisciplinare e interdisciplinare, e alla luce della nozione di “trauma”, gli aspetti storici, politici e militari della disfatta. Esso fa largo spazio anche alle testimonianze dei soldati-scrittori la cui esperienza di quei giorni acquista senso se inserita in una dimensione collettiva e storica. Le stratificazioni temporali - relative tanto alla lettura storiografica, militare e politica quanto agli scritti memoriali e letterari - costituiscono un fattore importante per la riappropriazione di un evento che tocca la storia e l'identità italiane. Nel processo di rievocazione del trauma, la rappresentazione dello choc subìto tiene conto sia dell'immediatezza del vissuto che della simbolizzazione retrospettiva. Questo volume intende allora studiare i meccanismi attraverso i quali il ricordo del trauma di Caporetto prende forma nel linguaggio autobiografico o finzionale inteso anche come espressione terapeutica e luogo della resilienza.

    Description: ll volume raccoglie 11 contributi che da diverse ottiche disciplinari e metodologiche affrontano il tema dell’uso che della scrittura è stato fatto in diverse società e diversi momenti del mondo antico – in particolare nel Mediterraneo orientale – dalla comparsa dei primi documenti cuneiformi, e del complesso problema del rapporto tra lingua, scrittura e immagini, alla diffusione degli alfabeti classici. Che la scrittura, nelle sue diverse manifestazioni, dalle monumentali iscrizioni ‘ufficiali’ alle sue più modeste espressioni quali i graffiti sia uno strumento privilegiato di informazione e conoscenza, è dato più che acquisito. Come si evince dal titolo il focus del volume è posto piuttosto sulla molteplicità dei piani di lettura riconoscibili in ogni tipo di testo considerato in relazione al supporto, e più in generale al contesto di produzione e di uso nelle sue numerose articolazioni, di strumento amministrativo, contabile, politico, propagandistico, la cui efficacia spesso va al di là della stessa comprensione immediata dei testi. Si propongono quindi riflessioni sul rapporto tra segni, lingue e immagini, tra scrittura lingua e identità, tra scrittura, lingua e controllo politico, come spunti per ulteriori riflessioni e approfondimenti.

Il volume è disponibile in internet senza limitazioni d'accesso anche come pubblicazione elettronica _open-access_ all'indirizzo www.edition-open-access.de. Il testo venne pubblicato nel 1621, quattro anni dopo la morte dell’autore. Questo libro appartiene alla lunga tradizione rinascimentale concernente lo studio dei _Problemi Meccanici_ pseudo-aristotelici. A differenza della maggior parte delle altre opere scritte durante il XVI secolo, tuttavia, il testo di Baldi esprime una posizione critica nei confronti dell’approccio teorico presente nelle meccaniche pseudo-aristoteliche. Il testo delle _Exercitationes_ mostra una sistematica applicazione dei principi archimedei alla spiegazione delle questioni discusse nei _Problemi Meccanici_ e, dunque, illustra chiaramente la struttura a forma di patchwork della meccanica preclassica. Il testo, inoltre, presenta lunghe digressioni che ampliano considerevolmente i confini della meccanica. The _Exercitationes_ were first published in 1621, four years after the death of the author. The work belongs to the long tradition of studies on the pseudo-Aristotelian _Mechanical Problems_ developed during the Renaissance but, unlike most other works written during the sixteenth century, it takes a critical position against the theoretical approach of the pseudo-Aristotelian text. The _Exercitationes_ display a systematic application of Archimedean principles to the explanation of the questions discussed in _Mechanical Problems_ illustrating the patchwork character of preclassical mechanics. Moreover, Baldi's work presents lengthy digressions that considerably widen the boundaries of mechanics.

L’attenzione dei media, nel denunciare i tagli alla ricerca, le cattive condizioni del mercato del lavoro e la mancanza di meritocrazia diffusa nel paese, si è focalizzata sulla perdita di giovani talenti verso l’estero. A lasciare l’Italia, però, non sono più solo lavoratori altamente specializzati, o cervelli in fuga, ma anche studenti, professionisti, tecnici, imprenditori, ricercatori, pensionati, cooperanti e altre figure, qualificate e non, che partono da ogni regione. Questo soggetto difficile da definire – emigranti, expat, cervelli in fuga? – non ha nemmeno una dimensione precisa.     Description: The perspective in graphic arts was born with a different form than the one used to present it in today’s courses, and it developed along with the transformations of scientific thought. This study disassembles from the inside the perspective images of a series of works, and then assembles them again, using clear graphic elaborations to show every step of the process. The sequence of the essays illustrates the evolution of role of the abacus and of measures in the works of the first artist-scientists, according to the scientific thought of the time. From Humanism to Baroque, perspective ceases to be a research on the truth of the eye. On the contrary, it becomes the search of the the eye’s deception, exploiting mechanical devices and complex theorems of geometric optics. The original quest is therefore replaced by technical virtuosity. The final repertoire offers a selection of examples showing the wideness of the theme over the centuries.

The term, beyond its generic meaning of an intermediate stage in a process in which a condition changes from one state to another, has always been used in various fields, from music to geophysics. In fact, the disciplines of drawing have always been confronted with themes and issues relating to transitions from one condition to another. The history of representation tells us of transformations, even epochal ones, relating to ‘drawing’, with all that such transitions entail: suffice it to think of the evolution of forms of representation, of instrumental apparatuses, of the mutability of supports, of the analogical-digital transition underway, of the new modes of communication on platforms, of the hypertrophic offer of images also on the net that confirms Guy Debord’s intuitions relating to the new spectacularisation of society.
