    Perspektiven für religiöse Bildung an neuen Sekundarschulformen (2021)

    Description: The dissertation deals with perspectives on Religious Education at German comprehensive schools which were created during the 2010s. It searches for conditions and potentials of Religious Education at the referred types of school. It especially focuses on models for Religious Education as a school subject, successful activities regarding ‘Religion and school life’ as well as on characteristics of new comprehensive schools. It combines both questions on Religious Education as a subject and on school development. The empirical study is based on 17 interviews with teachers and school principals at so-called ‘Oberschulen’ and ‘Integrierte Gesamtschulen’, which were analyzed by qualitative content analysis. The study provides results to a neglected area of research: many studies on Religious Education or Educational Science look at grammar schools. The study creates starting points for diverse discourses and target groups. It demonstrates that Religious Education makes an important contribution to school education, but that it is time to modify some approaches and activities.

    Description: Innovation is increasingly based on distributed knowledge sources, given that firms often do not possess all competencies necessary for fundamental innovations. Hence, the manner in which firms organize the access to external knowledge and make use of this knowledge in internal innovation processes is crucial for the success of innovation. Learning processes have to be organized across organizational, spa¬tial, functional, and disciplinary boundaries – in particular with regard to colla¬bo¬ra¬tion between knowledge producing and knowledge using firms, suppliers, clients, diverse knowledge based service providers, or research and development centers and universities. The crucial point is how external knowledge gathered in these collaborations can be used within the organization. At this juncture, a specific recontextualization prob¬lem arises for firms, because the successful adoption of externally created knowledge depends on shared experiences of actors and the specific context of the organization where the knowledge has been created. Therefore, externally created knowledge whichmay be incorporated into routines, products, services, and documents has to be (re–)contextualized and recombined using context specific and subjective ex¬pe¬riences, perceptions, and capabilities of the involved actors. It is the solution of re¬contextualization problems that poses the particular challenge of collaborative in¬no¬vation processes. The research project »Collaborative Innovations« (COLLIN) started from the assumption that hierarchical, market, network, and community based forms of go¬vernance play a crucial role for the adoption of external knowledge. Due to their different characteristics with regard to the access to the formation process of the external knowledge as well as the proprietary use of the acquired knowledge the respective governance forms facilitate different ways of dealing with external know¬ledge in collaborative innovation processes.

    Implementing open access mandates in Europe (2021)

    Description: The implementation of open access policies in Europe is a socio-technical undertaking whereby a wide range of stakeholders work together to bring out the benefits of open access for European and global research. This work provides a unique overview of national awareness of open access in 32 European countries involving all EU member states and in addition, Norway, Iceland, Croatia, Switzerland and Turkey. It describes funder and institutional open access mandates in Europe and national strategies to introduce and implement them. An overview of the current European repository infrastructures is given, including institutional and disciplinary repositories, national repository networks, information portals and support networks. This work also outlines OpenAIREplus, a continuation project which aims to widen the scope of OpenAIRE by connecting publications to contextual information, such as research data and funding information. Opportunities for collaboration in order to achieve European and global synergies are also highlighted. The OpenAIRE project, a joint collaboration among 38 partners from 27 European countries, has built up a network of open repositories providing free online access to knowledge produced by researchers receiving grants from the European Commission or the European Research Council. It provides support structures for researchers, operates an electronic infrastructure and a portal to access all user-level services and works with several subject communities.     Description: Recidivism belongs to the main categories of criminology, crime policy and criminal justice. If the target of preventing offenders from reoffending is taken seriously crime policy should be measured by success of certain penal sanctions in terms of relapses. Also institutions that deal directly with crime and offenders need to get basic information on the consequences of their actions; particularly general knowledge about offender groups at risk of reoffending. All these are reasons why representative recidivism studies are needed. Meanwhile a lot of European countries gather systematic and comprehensive information on recidivism, periodically and on a national level. This volume presents an exemplary collection of such endeavors: Austria, Estonia, France, Germany, Switzerland and a comparative study of England and Wales, the Netherlands and Scotland.
    Description: Rückfall gehört zu den zentralen Kategorien der Kriminologie, Strafrechtspraxis und Kriminalpolitik. Nimmt man den spezialpräventiven Anspruch des Strafrechts ernst, muss sich die Strafrechtspolitik daran messen lassen, wie gut es mit welcher Art von Sanktionen gelingt, Rückfälle zu verhindern. Aber auch die Institutionen, die unmittelbar mit Straftaten und Straftätern umgehen, bedürfen einer grundlegenden Information über die Folgen ihres Tuns, insbesondere allgemeine Erkenntnisse über rückfallgefährdete Tätergruppen. All dies sind Gründe, warum repräsentative Rückfalluntersuchungen benötigt werden. Systematische und umfassende Informationen zum Rückfall werden mittlerweile in vielen europäischen Ländern regelmäßig und landesweit erhoben. Sie endet in den Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika, wo Falck seine letzten Lebensjahre verbrachte. Hoffnungsvoll baute Falck seit 1910 an der Kgl. Preußischen Forstakademie in Hann. Münden ein modernes Forschungsinstitut für Technische Mykologie auf. Das Blatt wendete sich, als nach dem Ende des Ersten Weltkriegs radikalisierte Studenten eine antisemitische Hetze gegen Falck und sein Institut entfachten. Der Band schildert Falcks privaten und wissenschaftlichen Lebensweg vor und nach seiner Flucht aus Deutschland 1933. Zentrale Aspekte sind die Umstände seiner Verfolgung und Vertreibung, Stationen der Flucht und des Exils in Palästina (Israel) und den USA sowie Falcks Entwicklung als Forscher.     Description: Die Etablierung palliativmedizinischer Versorgungsstrukturen im ambulanten Bereich hat in den vergangenen Jahren die ärztliche Betreuung von Palliativpatienten deutlich verändert. Eine an den spezifischen Bedürfnissen schwerstkranker Patienten orientierte Versorgung im häuslichen Umfeld erfordert es, bestehende gesetzliche Regelungen zu hinterfragen, anzupassen oder fortzuentwickeln. Kontrovers diskutiert wird, wie das Grundanliegen des Betäubungsmittelrechts — Schutz der Bevölkerung vor Abhängigkeit und Missbrauch sowie Sicherstellung der notwendigen medizinischen Versorgung — mit dem palliativmedizinischen Selbstverständnis der Gewährung einer bestmöglichen Behandlung von Schmerzpatienten in Einklang gebracht werden kann. In diesem Spannungsfeld fasst der Band die Beiträge eines Expertenworkshops zusammen, der 2012 von der Klinik für Palliativmedizin sowie dem Zentrum für Medizinrecht der Georg-August-Universität Göttingen veranstaltet wurde. Ergänzt um Beiträge weiterer Autoren werden aktuelle Konfliktbereiche im Verhältnis von (Betäubungsmittel-)Recht und Palliativmedizin aufgegriffen und im interdisziplinären Dialog beleuchtet.

    Description: A few weeks before van Gogh admitted himself into a mental hospital in Saint-Rémy in spring 1889 he had written to Gauguin that he wanted to create a “consolatory art for distressed hearts”. From his bedroom in the clinic he overlooked an enclosed wheat field. Over the course of a year the seasonal changes inspired Van Gogh to paint a cycle of this wheat field, thereby seeing it as an allegorical representation of the fate of human life, which comforted him.

    Description: Erhard Weigel (1625-1699) was a German mathematician, astronomer, educator, philosopher, and inventor. He was professor of mathematics at Jena University and is considered a key figure in the development of the mathematical sciences of the 17th Century. In particular, he is known to be the teacher of the young Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz (1646-1716) and other notable students. These proceedings record papers presented at an international colloquium held at the Göttingen State and University Library in collaboration with the Erhard Weigel Society based in Jena on December 5-6, 2014. The colloquium was concerned with Erhard Weigel and some of his many students as well as discussed his contribution to the history of science as an excellent educator. Moreover, the colloquium dealt with the flow of impact of his methods and ideas into the scientific community, whose members played a significant role in the scientific revolution of the 17th Century. Finally, a list of known students who attended Weigel's lectures is given.

    Description: The past fifty years have seen far-reaching changes in Palestinian society in the West Bank. The Israeli occupation which began in 1967, the political mobilization of the 1970s and 1980s, and the so-called peace process in the 1990s went together with deep social transformations, which not only changed the dynamics of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, but also altered the figurations and conflict lines between different social groups within Palestinian society. This book is a sociological study of these transformation processes, based on a combination of Norbert Elias’ figurational sociology, social-constructivist biographical research, and Karl Mannheim’s sociology of knowledge and generational sociology. In addition to conflicts and tensions between inhabitants of the old refugee camps and the (new) urban middle class in the West Bank, the author focuses in particular on a latent Palestinian generational conflict: it is clear that members of the ‘Oslo Generation’ – meaning those who grew up during the Oslo peace process in the 1990s – have fewer power and life chances, and in particular fewer opportunities for meaning, than their predecessors in the generation of fighters and activists of the 1970s and 1980s.

The significance of the Clearing House for the implementation of the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act is heightened by the fact that it assumes additional sovereign tasks assigned to it within the scope of the designation. This unusual double function is applied to the task at hand and illuminates the status and organisation of Stiftung Elektro-Altgeräte-Register that is set up as Clearing House. The task furthermore examines the most important tasks in practice of producer registration and the coordination of WEEE collection, as well as the thus far little researched task of specifying the equipment types important for implementation. The work is rounded off by a chapter dedicated to the issues of legal protection against the measures of Stiftung Elektro-Altgeräte-Register, particularly in its function as designated agency.

    Description: How is the handling of contested “objects” from the German colonial era shaped in ethnological Museums in Germany and Cameroon? This ethnographic study connects, for the first time, approaches from ethnology, (international) law, (art) history and museology which constitute the multidisciplinary field of “return” to deal with this question. Two current return claims of things from Cameroon at ethnological museums in Munich and Berlin take centre stage: Tange/Schiffschnabel and Ngonnso’/Schalenträgerfigur. The reconstruction of the cultural biographies of the contested items documents their part as points of intersection in complex networks of relations and stakeholders from the 19th century to this day. These networks connect people and institutions in Cameroon and Germany and their diverse conceptions and claims on these things in a versatile manner. Return claims, according to the thesis, appear as a magnifying lens which discloses diverging conceptions of things and ontologies.

    Description: Feedback from teachers is of great importance for the learning development of pupils. For optimal support of learning processes, it is important how students perceive and utilise feedback. Based on theoretical supply-utilisation models, this book addresses the question of the extent to which students in upper secondary school perceive feedback from teachers in German lessons differently and how this perception affects students' motivation development. The findings from latent change models provide information on the stability and change in feedback perception over the course of a school term as well as on differences in feedback perception between students. In addition, the longitudinal analyses highlight the interplay between different dimensions of feedback quality and the development of learning motivation. The findings expand the state of research on the perception of feedback and the development of differentiated effects on motivation and also open up a wide range of suggestions for educational practice.

    Description: Temporary releases from prison and open prisons are elementary components of a rehabilitation-oriented prison system. This statement has remained unchanged after the federalism reform, with which the legislative competence for the prison system was transferred from the federal government to the states. The reform provides an opportunity to compare the 16 new state laws with each other and to examine the legal regulations on temporary releases from prisons and open prisons from admission to the penal institution through to discharge, taking into account normative administrative practice. In doing so, this is explored whether the federal states have maintained the standard established by the Federal German Prison Act of 1976, legitimized restorative tendencies or established innovations. The present work also makes a contribution to a constitutionally determined understanding of temporary releases from prison and open prisons.

    Description: Clinical trials of medicinal products on human subjects are a balancing act between the protection of the study participant and the preservation of his dignity on the one hand and the constant striving for medical progress on the other hand. This applies likewise to the control group as an essential part of every clinical testing of pharmaceuticals without which no drug will receive marketing authorisation in Germany by the competent authorities. Nevertheless, significant gaps in the German legislation concerning this matter still remain as the German legislator has yet to implement any specific rules with regard to the handling and management of the control group in clinical trials. In view of this unsettled legal situation, the author critically analyses the core of the problem areas in this field’s current research practice and creates solutions reflecting the interests of the study participant as well as the practical needs of medical research. Only legal clarity regarding the control group can provide for the safety that is crucial in this field of tension between ethics, medicine and the law.

    Description: For some time massive change needs primarily by libraries and other public facilities for the system of science communication have been formulated against the background the so-called "serials crisis. Great potential for modifications are attributed to information and communication technologies, which seem suitable to allow the distribution of scientific results in cheaper and faster than with the since the end of the 17th Century's established channels of communication of paper-based journals. The current discussion of the changes focus in particular on the phrase "Open Access" with the two basic design options "Green Road" the parallel free online publication media, and the "Golden Road," the primary publishing in open access media. In practice, however, there are numerous, highly differentiated business models for new forms of originary publication services, as well as complementary services. Some of these new forms of science communication are already described in the literature, usually as case-by-case documentations. A helpful addition would be a study grid, which would allow a structured description of different forms of scientific communication. To establish such a typology is the goal of this book. This typology is then used to select new services to be described and then compared. Another aim of the book is so is to make a contribution to the systematic description of reality and thus to provide a basis for sound research.

Deren komplexe Kupfersticherfindungen sind nicht – wie bislang angenommen – Emblemvarianten, sondern stellen ein gänzlich anders funktionierendes System der Text- und Bild-Synthese dar. Der jeweiligen Andachts-, Erbauungs- oder Lehrfunktion entsprechend verbildlichen die Kupferstiche Allegorisierungen moralischer und religiöser Didaxe, bildinterne Lettern und beigefügte Erläuterungen erschließen Inhalte und stellen den Bezug zu den verbildlichten Texten her. Analyse der unterschiedlichen Text-Bild-Verschränkungen in den vier Büchern, Herleitung der Buchstabenverweissysteme, buchgeschichtliche Einordnung, Entstehungsumstände, Konzeptionsgeschichte, funktionale Bestimmungen und Rezeptionen der Bücher und Bilder werden umfassend geklärt. Neben Veridicus Christianus (1601), Occasio Arrepta Neglecta (1605), Paradisus Sponsi et Sponsae (1607) und Duodecim Specula (1610) wurde auch das umfangreiche und viel rezipierte, von Boetius a Bolswert illustrierte Via Vitae Aeternae (1620) des Antoine Sucquet SJ ausführlich behandelt.

Es wird zudem geprüft, ob es das Selbstbestimmungsrecht des Einzelnen gebietet, eine weitere „automatische“ Vertretungsmöglichkeit für nahe Angehörige zu normieren. Es wird auch erwogen, auf welche Grundlage eine entsprechende Befugnis gestützt werden, in welchen Fällen und unter welchen Voraussetzungen sie eingreifen könnte.

    Description: Johann Friedrich von Uffenbach was a wealthy scion of a Frankfurt patrician family, of hereditary nobility, and the younger brother of Zacharias Conrad (1683-1734), one of the greatest book collectors and manuscript specialists of his time. He first studied under the mathematical rationalist Enlightenment philosopher Christian Wolff (1679-1754) in Halle before earning a law degree from the University of Strasbourg in 1714. As a European traveler, he kept detailed travel diaries and lived in Frankfurt as a private scholar with technical, natural history and artistic interests, a collector of books, instruments, paintings, drawings and prints. His enthusiasm for everything technical, measurable and newly invented led to experimental learning in a wide variety of fields, but - since there was no compulsion to earn a living - rarely to long-term employment. Practical evidence of Uffenbach's activities are, for example, a renovated bridge over the Main, various large fireworks, diverse music and an opera as well as some copperplate engravings. His scientific activities are documented in handwritten records, such as more than 8,000 pages of travel diaries, five volumes of minutes of meetings of his learned society founded in Frankfurt, numerous letters and manuscripts of unpublished writings: Uffenbach enjoyed traveling, learning, reading and testing, but the breadth of his studies was more important to him than their depth. Uffenbach's own handwritten catalogs and inventories of the collections correlated manuscripts with printed books in the library, instruments, models, drawings, and copper engravings. The result was a complex, multi-part working tool that he bequeathed in 1736 to the newly founded University of Göttingen, which received it after his death in 1770. Johannes Eck (1486–1543), Johannes Kingsattler (1486–1534) and Willibald Pirckheimer (1470–1530) were part of a precarious generation since they had to find their social positions in a rapidly changing society. How did they become the men, they themselves represented in their „self-narratives“ and that we know today? Ingo Trüter examines the conditions which enabled the protagonists of this study to attain certain positions in the field of learning without assuming a biographical telos. Based on multiple types of sources and following a micro-historical approach, the study draws an illustrative image of men of learning around the year 1500, ranging from philosophical questions in the Wegestreit to the learned men’s furniture and interior fittings of their houses.

What – in concrete - is the object when "social capital" is mentioned? This question has not been systematically dealt with and even less responsed in a satisfactory degree, although there are many contributions to the discussion of the term. The problem is labelled in the social sciences, but has not been resolved in the context of the specific social-scientific framework. This book takes the neglected metalinguistic perspective.     Description: The Göttingen Observatory, workplace of the famous scholar Carl Friedrich Gauss, is an important architectural monument. In 2005, it has been reconstructed jointly by the Georg-August-University and the Academy of Sciences in Göttingen. Since then it serves as a representative building for the University and is the seat of the Academy. With the use of the historic rooms for exhibitions this imposing building is open to the public for the first time. 200 years ago the observatory represented the recent scientific findings of its time and moved the University of Göttingen into the leading group of the foremost research institutions in Europe at this time. Also due to its architecture it has been a big leap for Georg Heinrich Borheck, architecture of the University of Göttingen. The war of the Napoleonic era disrupted the attempt of Borheck to publish his description of the construction of the Göttingen observatory in 1805. But his writing is still relevant today and will be finally published with this band for the first time accessible to a wide public. It shows the principles on which public buildings were designed then, explains the importance of the construction in art- and science-historical perspectives and informs on the plans for the restoration of the observatory in a separate article and in the preface by the President of the Georg-August University Prof. Dr. Dr. hc Kurt von Figura.

    Description: The purchase of additional items in videogames, also called ‘Microtransactions’, has recently grown to become one of the dominating methods of monetization in the games industry. However, many versions of these monetization schemes face severe backlash because it appears that the ways to monetize games are increasingly influencing the contents of the medium and that those games are purposefully designed to bring vulnerable players to spend more money than they meant to. In this thesis, those points of criticism were taken into consideration and as a starting point to explore the legality of these kinds of monetization schemes from a legal standpoint. This was done with regards to the Unfair Competition Law, Youth Protection regulation and general civil law. Also, the chance-based variant of microtransactions, the so called ‘Lootboxes’, have been examined with regard to their legality under gambling regulations.

When early criminal defense means to avoid unnecessary detention which burdens both the involved parties, the enforcement and detention and in terms of costs, the state in unnecessary ways? It represents the concept and the results of the accompanying scientific research from a 1998 pilot project carried out in the JVA Hannover. It relies on the analysis of over 1,300 criminal acts and the Federal Central Register’s (Bundeszentralregister) statements, the evaluation of the detention list of the local court of Hanover and on extensive interviews with people involved in the project (defence lawyers, prosecutors, judges, court clerks and remand prisoners). The empirical findings of the accompanying be embedded in a legal framework and criminological conclusions are presented.

This study aims to contribute to an understanding of sexual crimes by providing an overview of such offences in Germany by nature of the offence, offender-types, penalties and (partially) criminal careers from the perspective of judicial oversight of sexual crime. The study examines 9,430 sexual offenders from all over Germany based on data from the Federal Central Criminal Register where either custodial sentences were served or non-custodial sanctions imposed in the base year. It tracks the sample group over six years comparing their outcomes with other non-sexual offender types.

    Description: Criminal trials often attract great public interest. This interest, again, is essential to criminal justice as such, for in democratic states under the rule of law criminal law and its application need to be asserted and accepted within the public discourse. However, most people do not follow criminal trials as spectators in the courtroom, but by means of public media, such as newspapers, television and – increasingly – the internet. Thus, media outlets gain influence on the public opinion and are able to paint the picture of criminal trials according to their own perception. The media tends to overdraw criminal cases rather than to report the unbiased facts. This leads to tensions between possibly diverging interests of the public, of the judiciary and of the media. This volume addresses these tensions from the perspectives of academics and practitioners, who discussed this issue during an interdisciplinary conference held at the Institute for Criminal Law at the Georg-August-University Göttingen.

In order to do justice to the various components relating to tourism, such as aspects of the natural and cultural landscape as well as the economic, sociocultural and political situation, an integrative approach is necessary. The “landscape” is the foundation of tourism. Landscapes have their own value, a value that visitors and even locals are often not conscious of. “Landscape interpretation” and “heritage interpretation” attempt to remedy this defi cit by defi ning, vividly presenting and “staging” the essential aspects of a landscape. This makes it possible to enhance awareness of the value of a landscape and its need to be protected, thereby achieving a positive change in the behaviour of visitors. The present volume introduces various initiatives, which illustrate the importance of landscape interpretation for tourism research.

    Description: The term "social capital" has become a buzzword with a huge, already diffuse spectrum of application. This should give reason for conceptual and theoretical vigilance. What – in concrete - is the object when "social capital" is mentioned? This question has not been systematically dealt with and even less responsed in a satisfactory degree, although there are many contributions to the discussion of the term. The problem is labelled in the social sciences, but has not been resolved in the context of the specific social-scientific framework. This book takes the neglected metalinguistic perspective. Thus it advances the scientific maturity of the "social capital" debate and contributes to the establishment of a well-founded system in social science terms. It brings up social capital by combining an epistemological and ontological analysis and thus finally develops clarification of the concept.
    Description: Die Debatte um Sozialkapital ist seit geraumer Zeit in Wissenschaft, Wirtschaft und Politik in Mode. Schaut man sich Untersuchungen dazu an, so scheint Sozialkapital für nahezu alles gut zu sein: sei es die Erhöhung des persönlichen Wohlbefindens, die Revitalisierung benachteiligter Stadtquartiere oder die Stärkung der Volkswirtschaft im globalisierten Standortwettbewerb - je mehr Sozialkapital, desto besser! Doch gerade die behauptete enorme Wirkungsbreite sollte zu begrifflicher und theoretischer Wachsamkeit anhalten. Was dient Wissenschaftlern als Gegenstand ihrer Erkenntnisbemühungen, wenn von »Sozialkapital« die Rede ist? Diese Frage klingt banal, ist aber bisher nicht systematisch bearbeitet oder gar in befriedigendem Maße beantwortet worden, obwohl doch zahlreiche Beiträge zur Begriffsdebatte vorliegen. So ist zwar das Problem in den Sozialwissenschaften benannt, doch im Kontext des speziellen sozialwissenschaftlichen Reflexionsrahmens nicht eingelöst worden. Das vorliegende Buch nimmt die bisher vernachlässigte metasprachliche Perspektive ein. Es erhöht damit den wissenschaftlichen Reifegrades der »Sozialkapital«-Debatte und trägt zur Etablierung eines wohlfundierten Systems sozialwissenschaftlicher Begriffe bei. But even after 20 years, all-day elementary schools do not seem to fulfill this. Scientific quality criteria are too rarely implemented in elementary schools. The aim of this dissertation was to investigate the effect of an (interlocked) extracurricular science program on elementary school students regarding their motivational-affective characteristics. For this purpose, an (interlocked) offer was implemented in the intervention study, whereby this was linked to physical education in half of the schools. The analysis of the questionnaires of 236 pupils showed that participation in a science offer can be profitable, but that the interlocking is not as highly effective as expected. The study suggests changing the intra-school structure and revising the understanding of interlocking.

    Description: For the people in the Early Modern Age, famines were regularly recurring phenomena. So not less than eight of these crises happened in the areas of Lower Saxony between 1690 and 1750, which had a lasting impact on various aspects of life for the contemporaries. Therefore topics of different historical subdisciplines like economic, social, cultural and environmental history are dealt with in this dissertation. Thus, this thesis aims to bridge the gap between climatically and socially determined patterns of hunger. With the help of the concept of vulnerability it is shown that hunger crises can neither be ascribed to natural processes nor human operations exclusively. In fact they were the outcome of a chain of human-nature-interactions and were perceived as such by the contemporaries. A further emphasis of this book is put on the examination of contemporary coping strategies. The hereby worked out explanatory and interpretive models proved to be determining how the contemporaries tried to cope with hunger on a personal and joint level. Regarding the latter it is shown that famines played a decisive role in the consolidation of leadership in the Early Modern Age. Because of their regular recurrence they worked as focal points of the negotiation of sovereignity between authorities and subjects more than any other crisis situation in this process.

    Description: The extensive collection of correspondences of Elisabeth Charlotte, Duchesse d’Orléans (known as Liselotte von der Pfalz), sister-in law of Louis XIV, is one of the few remaining sources with exceptional insight into the life at the court of the Sun King. Her letters contain numerous lively and witty descriptions of the appearances and bodily practices of the contemporaries she met there – descriptions that range from subtle anecdotes to scatological jokes. Especially the latter, sometimes paired with strong language, have led various scholars to believe that her writing style was not in accordance with the refined communication culture at the court. The perception of Liselotte’s writing style, characterized by literary and theatrical allusions, repartee, and a tendency towards detailed description of courtly life, seems to be dominated by a stereotypical classification of Liselotte as a “unrefined German” contrasted with the gallantry of the French. This study contradicts this assumption by analysing whether and to what extent the writing about the body in Liselotte’s letters follows the rules described in the handbooks on courtly communication of the Early Modern Period.

    Description: The present qualitative interview study has set itself the task of reappraising the developments from the emergence to the official ban of the German-speaking Islamic Circle (DIK) and the associated mosque. In order to approach the question of how it was possible for a radical Islamic mosque to emerge and establish itself in the middle of Hildesheim's Nordstadt, we use the "hotbed" approach1 as a basis for analysis. According to this approach, the geographic distribution of the places of origin of those who left to fight in IS territory is by no means evenly distributed; rather, certain places or neighborhoods stand out in which recurring factors that condition radicalization can be identified. To examine why the now-banned Hildesheim mosque association around the convicted "IS chief recruiter" in Germany, Ahmad A. alias "Abu Walaa," became a hotbed, we conducted a total of nine interviews in the spring and summer of 2021. We spoke with members of the local Muslim community and former visitors of the DIK mosque, non-Muslim persons living in the immediate vicinity of the mosque, as well as with representatives of authorities, institutions and civil society institutions. The empirical material is supplemented by an analysis of Abu Walaa's social media content, in particular his Telegram channels, as well as by recordings of various court hearings of the criminal trial against Abu Walaa that we attended.     Description: In Italy, Solidarity Villages are state-provided places of accommodation for Romani people. In Rome, they are typically fenced off areas equipped with low-quality portable housing. In the media, these halting sites are often represented as a culturally appropriate housing solution. Yet, these camps are neither temporary halting places nor cultural forms of housing. Rather, they are places of segregation, conflict and negotiation—sites where racism, sexism and a particular way of dealing with poverty and migration condense. Beginning with the declaration of a Nomad Emergency in 2008, Simona Pagano documents the emergence of the spatial logic of the camp and offers an intersectional analysis of the complex power relations that shape the lives of its female residents. Drawing on ethnographic engagement, as well as interviews with institutional actors and civil society organizations, Pagano shows that the camps are often places of segregation and control, of profit generation and violence, but also, spaces of solidarity, homemaking and friendship.

In ihnen verdichten sich unterschiedliche Machtverhältnisse, wie Rassismus und Sexismus, aber auch ein spezifischer Umgang mit Armut und Migration. Ausgehend von der Ausrufung des Notstands in Bezug auf die Anwesenheit der „Nomaden“ im Jahre 2008, untersucht Simona Pagano in dieser Monographie die Auswirkungen dieser Machtverhältnisse insbesondere auf den Alltag der bislang zu gering berücksichtigten weiblichen Bewohnerinnen dieser Camps in Rom. In der alltäglichen Begleitung der Frauen, in Gesprächen, Interviews mit zivilgesellschaftlichen Organisationen und institutionellen Akteuren sowie durch das Nachzeichnen der Entstehung dieser Orte vermittelt die Autorin anhand einer intersektionalen Perspektive ein komplexes Bild dieser Camps. Sie kann dabei zeigen, dass diese zwar Orte der Segregation und Kontrolle, der Profitgenerierung und Gewalt, aber auch Räume der Solidarität, der Beheimatung und der Freundschaft sein können.

Dies allein begründet die herausragende Bedeutung der Verhaltensforschung am POS. Bei dieser Forschung bedarf es des Einsatzes geeigneter Forschungsmethoden und der Beachtung ihrer Leistungsfähigkeit. Aus diesem Grunde befasst sich die hier vorgelegte Publikation mit den klassischen, aber auch mit neueren Forschungsmethoden, vor allem mit der Erfassung des Lauf-, Zuwendungs- und Kaufverhaltens und mit der Erfassung kognitiver Prozesse beim Besuch eines stationären Geschäfts. Besondere Beachtung erfahren Validitätsaspekte sowie Selektivitäts- und Reaktivitätseffekte, die über die Aussagekraft der Befunde entscheiden. Um aufzuzeigen, wie mit begrenztem Aufwand möglichst viel in Erfahrung gebracht werden kann, wird eine abgestufte Verhaltensforschung am POS skizziert. Abschließend wird aufgezeigt, wie auch das Verhalten der Mitarbeiter am POS untersucht werden kann.

    Description: Daniel Gottlieb Messerschmidt (1685–1735), a physician from Danzig, was sent to Siberia in 1718 by Tsar Peter I, primarily to research the medicinal plants of this vast territory. On his own initiative, Messerschmidt went far beyond this framework and in the course of his expedition of several years (1720–1727), largely on his own, realized a research program that included the disciplines of botany, ornithology, zoology, meteorology, archaeology, linguistics, ethnology. His extremely extensive scientific legacy, including the summary work “Sibiria perlustrata”, has remained unpublished to this day, with a few exceptions. In this monograph, Messerschmidt’s life and work are presented comprehensively for the first time ever. The most important basis of the presentation is the handwritten estate of the explorer, preserved in the St. Petersburg Academy Archives, the components of which are presented in detail. Although this legacy has remained largely unpublished, the research results achieved by Messerschmidt, particularly in the fields of botany and zoology, already had a considerable impact in the 18th century, which is described in more detail in the book.

    Description: As other Pacific Islands Countries, Fiji is shaped by processes of social transformations and global environmental change. This study utilises ethnographic ideals for enhancing cultural and social geographic research in the global south. A participatory in-depth analysis of rural life in three Fijian coastal villages is at the core of this study. This is framed by a historic-political overview of the burden of Fiji's colonial past. Fijian coastal villagers are not passive victims of global social transformation and climate change. Through neo-traditional movements they actively form processes of social and cultural change. Rural Fijian norms, values and cultural identity crystallize in robust communities. Via modern forms of communication and transportation Fijians established globalised networks securing individuals' quality of life. Family members living far from their home villages remain in contact with their relatives. This way they keep their Fijian Identities as source of wellbeing and as well support the villagers' material wealth and knowledge to enhance capabilities. Merely regarding hazardous climate change impacts the passed on knowledge is spread abridged and poorly fitting into local value systems. Therefore, misperceptions and maladaptations are prevalent. In consequence this study pleads for development agencies to act culturally sensitive and to critically reflect ethnocentric worldviews in order not to harm Fijian values and wellbeing.
    Description: Pazifikstaaten wie die Fidschi-Inseln sind wie kaum eine andere Region der Welt gekennzeichnet von gesellschaftlichen Veränderungen und dem globalen Umweltwandel. Auf Basis eines partizipativen Forschungsdesigns, durchgeführt in ausgewählten Küstendörfern, untersucht dieser Band die Auswirkungen der Globalisierung und des Klimawandels auf die Lebensqualität ihrer Bewohner. Dabei wird aufgezeigt, dass die Dorfbewohner keine passiven Opfer externer Prozesse sind, sondern aktiv ihr Leben gestalten. Mittels neo-traditioneller Bewegungen gelingt es den Bewohnern weitestgehend, ein festes Wertefundament als Grundlage ihrer kulturellen Identität zu bewahren. Eine intakte Gemeinschaft steht dabei im Zentrum spiritueller, ökonomischer und sozialer Werte. Im Zuge der gesellschaftlichen Transformation agieren die Gemeinschaften nicht mehr ortsgebunden, sondern bilden mithilfe moderner Transport- und Kommunikationstechnologien globalisierte Netzwerke – ohne dabei die Bezüge zu ihrer kulturellen Herkunft zu verlieren. Auswärts lebende Familienangehörige tragen so Wissen und materiellen Wohlstand in die Dorfgemeinschaften und erweitern die Handlungspotentiale und Lebensstandards der Küstendorfbewohner. Im Zuge der Wissensvermittlung erfolgt jedoch insbesondere die Darstellung des Klimawandels und seiner Gefahren verkürzt und nicht auf lokale Werte zurechtgeschnitten, sodass es auch zu Wahrnehmungsverzerrungen und Fehlanpassungen kommt. Im Kontext von Entwicklungszusammenarbeit rät diese Untersuchung daher zu kultureller Sensibilität und einer kritischen Reflektion ethnozentrischer Weltanschauungen, um die Lebensqualität in fidschianischen Dorfgemeinschaften nicht zu gefährden. In diesem Band werden ethnographische Ideale für eine kultur- und sozialgeographische Forschung im globalen Süden aufbereitet. Konzeptionell ist die Untersuchung in die kritische geographische Verwundbarkeits- und Transformationsforschung eingerahmt. In einem kulturräumlichen Überblick wird zunächst aus historisch-politischer Perspektive die Bedeutung postkolonialer Belastungen auf gegenwärtige Transformationsprozesse aufgezeigt. Das Herzstück bildet anschließend die ausführliche Analyse gesellschaftlicher Transformationsprozesse auf die Lebensqualität in drei Küstendörfern der Fidschi-Inseln.

In a search for sociocultural meaning in the catastrophic events of ‘3.11’, Wiebke Grimmig examines the role of contemporary Japanese artists in the process by which Japanese society has handled the effects of this triple disaster (earthquake, tsunami and atomic disaster) in Fukushima. She focuses on the emotional processing of these events by her respondents, including their biographical background, their economic concerns and the role of contemporary art in Japanese society. This anthropological research involves the analysis of in-depth interviews with contemporary artists from Tokyo, as well as from other locations along the east coast of Japan. This research was conducted over a 12-month period to elucidate the catastrophic events and effects of the ‘3.11’ disaster. In this work, Wiebke Grimmig examines how contemporary Japanese artists portray catastrophic events in terms of emotion, individuality, power, resilience, politics, economics and communication in their biographical narrative and their work. This doctoral thesis provides an important contribution to the socio-scientific field of disaster research.

    Description: Pendjari National Park in northern Benin is not only a tourist attraction and an area for the protection of biodiversity, it is also a showcase for participatory management approaches. Since its foundation as an animal protection area in 1954 under French colonial rule, the park has been object of often conflictual but productive negotiations between different groups of neighboring dwellers, such as peasants, herdsmen and hunters, as well as the park administration itself. During 19 months of fieldwork, ethnographic data on conflicts and negotiation processes were collected. Their detailed analyses show how different groups of actors construct the park as a socially relevant entity. Data from historical investigation and an extended case study of the participatory attempts at cooperation between the park administration and local hunters illustrate the social construction of spaces, identities as well as norms, values and institutions: Local hunters consider the park primarily a nowadays illegal hunting ground and a domain of spirits, while park administrators and international development actors declare it a zone of state-protected biodiversity. By showing how the national park and related spaces, identities, norms, values and institutions are socially produced, the analysis contributes to recent debates in the field of human-environment interaction and especially political ecology. Moreover, it offers complex insights and practical recommendations regarding participatory approaches to the management of natural resources and especially national parks.

The work traces this development by looking at various fields that build on each other both thematically and chronologically. London, as the center of the British Empire, and Berlin, as the emerging metropolis of Prussia, represent two ideal areas for comparison. On the basis of seven selected formations of practice - the art academies, the artist's journey, the exhibition system, art criticism, private art collections, the emergence of the modern art museum, and the funeral ceremonies of famous artists - a comparative cultural history of the emergence of the figure of the artist and the artistic field is sketched.

Die vorliegende Arbeit erklärt mithilfe der Konvergenztheorie die Ursachen für die neu auftretenden Divergenzen. Es werden die Gründe für den Reformdruck in Bezug auf die Direktzahlungen identifiziert sowie die Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschiede zwischen den USA und der EU herausgearbeitet und bewertet. Schließlich werden die Konvergenzmuster untersucht und der Konvergenzprozess erklärt. Therefore, this process as well as the concepts of delegation and substitution need to be clarified on a juridical basis. Accordingly, this dissertation is an approach to answer relevant questions of medical law, such as: Which concrete medical processes can be carried out based on the division of labour without risking legal steps regarding liability or pay to be taken? Based on distinct principles of medical law, the author thus develops a systematic framework for the division of medical labour. In this regard, an applicable and simultaneously docmatically substantiated method is focussed.
