    Description: The central task of tourism research is to advocate for sustainability. In order to do justice to the various components relating to tourism, such as aspects of the natural and cultural landscape as well as the economic, sociocultural and political situation, an integrative approach is necessary. The “landscape” is the foundation of tourism. Landscapes have their own value, a value that visitors and even locals are often not conscious of. “Landscape interpretation” and “heritage interpretation” attempt to remedy this defi cit by defi ning, vividly presenting and “staging” the essential aspects of a landscape. This makes it possible to enhance awareness of the value of a landscape and its need to be protected, thereby achieving a positive change in the behaviour of visitors. The present volume introduces various initiatives, which illustrate the importance of landscape interpretation for tourism research.
    Description: Die zentrale Aufgabe der Tourismusforschung ist es, Advokat der Nachhaltigkeit zu sein. Um den verschiedenen den Tourismus betreffenden Komponenten, also den natur- und kulturlandschaftlichen, wirtschaftlichen, sozio-kulturellen und politischen Aspekten Rechnung tragen zu können, ist ein integrativer Ansatz nötig. Die „Landschaft“ stellt die Grundlage des Tourismus dar. Landschaften haben ihren eigenen Wert, dessen sich die Besucher, aber auch die Bewohner häufig nicht bewusst sind. Diesem Defizit versucht die „Landschaftsinterpretation“ abzuhelfen, indem sie die wesentlichen landschaftlichen Aspekte definiert, anschaulich vorstellt und inszeniert. Dadurch kann das Bewusstsein für den Wert einer Landschaft und ihre Schutzwürdigkeit gesteigert und das Verhalten der Besucher positiv verändert werden. Der vorliegende Band stellt verschiedene Initiativen vor, anhand derer die Bedeutung der Landschaftsinterpretation für die Tourismusforschung deutlich wird.

Experiences of hearing the voice of God (or angels, demons, or other spiritual beings) have generally been understood either as religious experiences or else as a feature of mental illness. Some critics of traditional religious faith have dismissed the visions and voices attributed to biblical characters and saints as evidence of mental disorder. However, it is now known that many ordinary people, with no other evidence of mental disorder, also hear voices and that these voices not infrequently include spiritual or religious content. Psychological and interdisciplinary research has shed a revealing light on these experiences in recent years, so that we now know much more about the phenomenon of "hearing voices" than ever before. The present work considers biblical, historical, and scientific accounts of spiritual and mystical experiences of voice hearing in the Christian tradition in order to explore how some voices may be understood theologically as revelatory. It is proposed that in the incarnation, Christian faith finds both an understanding of what it is to be fully human (a theological anthropology), and God’s perfect self-disclosure (revelation). Within such an understanding, revelatory voices represent a key point of interpersonal encounter between human beings and God.

    Description: In Beside You in Time Elizabeth Freeman expands biopolitical and queer theory by outlining a temporal view of the long nineteenth century. Drawing on Foucauldian notions of discipline as a regime that yoked the human body to time, Freeman shows how time became a social and sensory means by which people assembled into groups in ways that resisted disciplinary forces. She tracks temporalized bodies across many entangled regimes—religion, secularity, race, historiography, health, and sexuality—and examines how those bodies act in relation to those regimes. In analyses of the use of rhythmic dance by the Shakers; African American slave narratives; literature by Mark Twain, Pauline Hopkins, Herman Melville, and others; and how Catholic sacraments conjoined people across historical boundaries, Freeman makes the case for the body as an instrument of what she calls queer hypersociality. As a mode of being in which bodies are connected to others and their histories across and throughout time, queer hypersociality, Freeman contends, provides the means for subjugated bodies to escape disciplinary regimes of time and to create new social worlds.

    Description: "This master thesis explores service characteristics that are relevant for book readers when they evaluate a service as well as starting points for providers when they plan to optimize their services from a customer’s point of view. In the first part ways of accessing books (buying, borrowing, rent) and the reading behavior of Germans will be described. Then the concept “quality of provision” of books will be discussed which distinguishes five quality dimensions of a service: diversity of content and arranging of books, basic technology (printed book or digital environment), temporal and spatial access, costs of access and ease of use. By using secondary material for each dimension individual quality characteristics will be identified. Next the theoretical background of the activity theory and a special way of thinking, the customer-dominant-logic, from the Nordic school will be explained briefly. Based on this a set of consumer activities related to books will be presented and some activities that are relevant for the work will be described in more detail by means of secondary material (reading books, choosing books, organizing books and information). Further customization and personalization will be proposed as strategies for individualization of services and their function for consumers will be explained. The secondary data used in the work comes from empirical data out of consumer surveys in libraries and bookshops, nationally representative surveys and from results of academic research from different fields. In the final part of this thesis an own data collection will be conducted by using a content analysis of consumer comments of two e-book rental apps (n = 1,245 comments). The analysis should clarify, if the quality characteristics, the book-related activities and the strategies for individualization described before can be found in everyday reality of consumers. After that the results of the content analysis will be presented. Finally the major findings will be summarized and connected to the research questions."

    Description: "This book is the first edited volume focusing on handwritten newspapers as an alternative medium from a wide interdisciplinary and international perspective. Our primary focus is on handwritten newspapers as a social practice. The case studies contextualize the source materials in relation to political, cultural, literary, and economic history. The analysis reveals both continuity and change across the different forms and functions of the textual materials. In the 16th century, handwritten newspapers evolved as a news medium reporting history in the making. It was both a rather expensive public commodity and a gift exchanged in social relationships. Both functions appealed to public elites and their news consumption for about 300 years. From the late 18th century onwards, changing notions of publicness as well as the social needs of private or even secluded groups re-defined the medium. Handwritten newspapers turned more and more into an internal or even clandestine medium of communication. As such, it has served as a means to create social cohesion, political debate, and religious education for nonelite groups until the 20th century. Despite these changes, continuities can be observed both in the material layout of handwritten newspapers and the practices of distribution."

    Description: Traditional arts practices and festivals have attracted increasing and diverse attention in the European context since policymakers discovered ‘culture’ as a resource in the 1980s (see, e.g., Kilday 1998 ). Their impact on their respective communities of practice, modes of production and exchange value in contemporary European society is under the spotlight from various angles within the newly emerged fi eld of ‘festival studies’, which is deeply connected to policy issues (Frost 2016 ). However, much of this interest is instrumentally concerned with revenue potential, leaving key concepts, such as heritage, identity and indeed Europe, defi ned in rather vague and often contradictory terms (Kockel, Nic Craith and Frykman 2012 ; Logan, Kockel and Nic Craith 2015 ; K ø lvraa 2016 ; L ä hdesm ä ki 2016 ; Whitehead and Bozo ğ lu 2017 ). Moreover, the number and range of events labelled as ‘festival’ is growing (Frost 2016 : 569), requiring a broader perspective on performances of heritage and identity.

    Description: Formalised procedures to obtain and document informed consent from research participants are at the heart of the shift from informal to formalised research ethics. Critiques claim that the requirements to obtain consent from all potential participants before the onset of a study will make it impossible to do ethnographic research and participant observation in institutional settings such as schools. Drawing on experiences from an ethnographic research project in secondary schools in Norway, the aim of this chapter is to discuss the ethical considerations and, embedded in these, the methodological and analytical challenges involved in doing participant observation in schools where not all pupils and parents have consented to participation in the research. The chapter suggests possible ways forward for tackling these challenges for ethnographic researchers working in schools.

    Description: In Italy, Solidarity Villages are state-provided places of accommodation for Romani people. In Rome, they are typically fenced off areas equipped with low-quality portable housing. In the media, these halting sites are often represented as a culturally appropriate housing solution. Yet, these camps are neither temporary halting places nor cultural forms of housing. Rather, they are places of segregation, conflict and negotiation—sites where racism, sexism and a particular way of dealing with poverty and migration condense. Beginning with the declaration of a Nomad Emergency in 2008, Simona Pagano documents the emergence of the spatial logic of the camp and offers an intersectional analysis of the complex power relations that shape the lives of its female residents. Drawing on ethnographic engagement, as well as interviews with institutional actors and civil society organizations, Pagano shows that the camps are often places of segregation and control, of profit generation and violence, but also, spaces of solidarity, homemaking and friendship.
    Description: Als Dörfer der Solidarität werden insbesondere in Rom, meist mit Wohncontainern ausgestattete, eingezäunte Camps bezeichnet, in denen Rom_nja und Sint_izze institutionell untergebracht werden. Medial sind diese vielbeachtet, die Bewohner_innen werden stereotypisiert noch immer als „Nomaden“ kategorisiert, die als solche spezifischer Wohnmöglichkeiten - nämlich ihrer Halteplätze - bedürfen. Doch sind diese Camps weniger Halteplätze und kulturell spezifische Wohnform, als vielmehr Orte der Segregation sowie Konflikt- und Aushandlungsräume. In ihnen verdichten sich unterschiedliche Machtverhältnisse, wie Rassismus und Sexismus, aber auch ein spezifischer Umgang mit Armut und Migration. Ausgehend von der Ausrufung des Notstands in Bezug auf die Anwesenheit der „Nomaden“ im Jahre 2008, untersucht Simona Pagano in dieser Monographie die Auswirkungen dieser Machtverhältnisse insbesondere auf den Alltag der bislang zu gering berücksichtigten weiblichen Bewohnerinnen dieser Camps in Rom. In der alltäglichen Begleitung der Frauen, in Gesprächen, Interviews mit zivilgesellschaftlichen Organisationen und institutionellen Akteuren sowie durch das Nachzeichnen der Entstehung dieser Orte vermittelt die Autorin anhand einer intersektionalen Perspektive ein komplexes Bild dieser Camps. Sie kann dabei zeigen, dass diese zwar Orte der Segregation und Kontrolle, der Profitgenerierung und Gewalt, aber auch Räume der Solidarität, der Beheimatung und der Freundschaft sein können.

    Description: Frontier Tibet addresses a historical sequence that sealed the future of the Sino-Tibetan borderlands. It considers how starting in the late nineteenth century imperial formations and emerging nation-states developed competing schemes of integration and debated about where the border between China and Tibet should be. It also ponders the ways in which this border is internalised today, creating within the People's Republic of China a space that retains some characteristics of a historical frontier. The region of eastern Tibet called Kham, the focus of this volume, is a productive lens through which processes of place-making and frontier dynamics can be analysed. Using historical records and ethnography, the authors challenge purely externalist approaches to convey a sense of Kham's own centrality and the agency of the actors involved. The combined influences of the post-1960s women’s movement, the 1990s Welsh devolution successes, and the development of the ‘Four Nations’ school of British literary criticism, have together effected significant advances in the field of Welsh feminist literary studies. This book focuses in particular on: the fifteenth- to eighteenth-century Welsh-language bards, such as Gwerful Mechain, Angharad James, and Marged Dafydd; the seventeenth- and eighteenth-century English-language poets, including Katherine Philips, Jane Brereton, Anne Penny, and Anne Hughes; contributors to the Romantic movement in Wales, such as the poets and novelists Mary Robinson and Ann of Swansea; the mid-nineteenth-century protesting voice of polemicists such as Jane Williams (Ysgafell); the Victorian English-language novelists, for example Louisa Matilda Spooner, Anne Beale, Amy Dillwyn, Allen Raine, and Mallt Williams, and their concern with national, class, and gender identities; and early twentieth-century Welsh-language writers engaged with Welsh Home Rule and women’s suffrage issues, such as Gwyneth Vaughan and Eluned Morgan.

    Description: In The Birth of Energy Cara New Daggett traces the genealogy of contemporary notions of energy back to the nineteenth-century science of thermodynamics to challenge the underlying logic that informs today's uses of energy. These early resource-based concepts of power first emerged during the Industrial Revolution and were tightly bound to Western capitalist domination and the politics of industrialized work. As Daggett shows, thermodynamics was deployed as an imperial science to govern fossil fuel use, labor, and colonial expansion, in part through a hierarchical ordering of humans and nonhumans. By systematically excavating the historical connection between energy and work, Daggett argues that only by transforming the politics of work—most notably, the veneration of waged work—will we be able to confront the Anthropocene's energy problem. Substituting one source of energy for another will not ensure a habitable planet; rather, the concepts of energy and work themselves must be decoupled.

    Description: Ancient Knowledge Networks is a book about how knowledge travels, in minds and bodies as well as in writings. It explores the forms knowledge takes and the meanings it accrues, and how these meanings are shaped by the peoples who use it. Addressing the relationships between political power, family ties, religious commitments and literate scholarship in the ancient Middle East of the first millennium BC, Eleanor Robson focuses on two regions where cuneiform script was the predominant writing medium: Assyria in the north of modern-day Syria and Iraq, and Babylonia to the south of modern-day Baghdad. She investigates how networks of knowledge enabled cuneiform intellectual culture to endure and adapt over the course of five world empires until its eventual demise in the mid-first century BC. In doing so, she also studies Assyriological and historical method, both now and over the past two centuries, asking how the field has shaped and been shaped by the academic concerns and fashions of the day. Above all, Ancient Knowledge Networks is an experiment in writing about ‘Mesopotamian science’, as it has often been known, using geographical and social approaches to bring new insights into the intellectual history of the world’s first empires.

    Description: This book illuminates the personal experience of being at the centre of a media scandal. The existential level of that experience is highlighted by means of the application of ethnological and phenomenological perspectives to extensive empirical material drawn from a Swedish context. The questions raised and answered in this book include the following: How does the experience of being the protagonist in a media scandal affect a person’s everyday life? What happens to routines, trust, and self-confidence? How does it change the basic settings of his or her lifeworld? The analysis also contributes new perspectives on the fusion between interpersonal communication that takes place face to face, such as gossip and rumours, and traditional news media in the course of a scandal. A scandal derives its momentum from the audiences, whose engagement in the moral story determines its dissemination and duration. The nature of that engagement also affects the protagonist in specific ways. Members of the public participate through traditional oral communication, one vital aspect of which is activity in digital, social forums. The author argues that gossip and rumour must be included in the idea of the media system if we are to be able to understand the formation and power of a media scandal, a contention which entails critiques of earlier research. Oral interpersonal communication does not disappear when new communication possibilities arise. Indeed, it may be invigorated by them. The term news legend is introduced, to capture the entanglement between traditional news-media storytelling and oral narrative

    Description: Against the grain of the growing literature on screens, *Screen Genealogies* argues that the present excess of screens cannot be understood as an expansion and multiplication of the movie screen nor of the video display. Rather, screens continually exceed the optical histories in which they are most commonly inscribed. As contemporary screens become increasingly decomposed into a distributed field of technologically interconnected surfaces and interfaces, we more readily recognize the deeper spatial and environmental interventions that have long been a property of screens. For most of its history, a screen was a filter, a divide, a shelter, or a camouflage. A genealogy stressing transformation and descent rather than origins and roots emphasizes a deeper set of intersecting and competing definitions of the screen, enabling new thinking about what the screen might yet become.

    Description: "Copper, zinc, gold and silver mineralizations exist on the deep ocean floor, at great depths, on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge between Jan Mayen and Spitsbergen. None of these mineralizations within Norwegian jurisdiction have been thoroughly investigated yet, but they are likely to contain significant amounts of minerals and metals crucial to society and the ‘Green Shift’. Should these mineralizations, which contain minerals and metals that you and I use every day, be developed and mined? The question is premature: we need to know more before we can answer it. We need to know more about the formation, location and characteristics of these potential deposits, as well as the environmental, social and financial consequences of potential extraction. We need to evaluate mining alternatives and how to process the extracted ore. How should we answer this question? The ultimate decisions will be determined politically, and knowledge will be the defining factor. Knowledge gained from proper mineral resource management. Quantifying the Unknown sets out to estimate the amount of minerals and metals on the deep ocean floor along the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, in particular, copper, zinc, gold and silver contained in so-called ‘seafloor massive sulphide deposits’. These deposits are modern analogues of those mined worldwide on land today. The method used to quantify the amounts of these resources is known as ‘play analysis’. It shares aspects of methodologies used on land for similar purposes and has been employed extensively to assess untapped petroleum resources on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. Play analysis enables a quantification of the potential as well as associated uncertainty. The potential is large, but the uncertainty is also significant. Whether and how this potential is realized remains to be seen."

As scholars, students and activists, we may want to change the world, but we are not separate, looking in, but rather part of the world ourselves. The book demonstrates that we are not in control: with all our academic rigour, we cannot know with certainty why the world is the way it is, or what impact our actions will have. It asks what we are to do, if this is the case, and engages with our desire to seek change. Chapters scrutinise the role of intellectuals, experts and activists in famine aid, the Iraq war, humanitarianism and intervention, traumatic memory, enforced disappearance, and the Grenfell Tower fire, and examine the fantasy of security, contemporary notions of time, space and materiality, and ideas of the human and sentience. Plays and films by Michael Frayn, Chris Marker and Patricio Guzmán are considered, and autobiographical narrative accounts probe the author’s life and background. The book argues that although we might need to traverse the fantasy of certainty and security, we do not need to give up on hope.

    Description: The twentieth century has been described (e.g., Piskorski 2015 ) as a century of displacement. While globally the comparative scale of involuntary population movement may not have diff ered signifi cantly from earlier centuries, its perception has changed radically, leading in the early twenty- fi rst century to the dramatic resurgence of xenophobic populism across Europe and beyond (see Kaya 2017 ; De Cesari and Kaya 2019). Throughout the ‘refugee crisis’ of the 2010s, the German government’s moderate policy towards new migrants was widely criticised. The ideological foundation for that policy was, arguably, the country’s experience of integrating millions of ethnic German expellees and refugees from Central and Eastern Europe in the aftermath of the Second World War.

    Description: Die Geomorphologische Karte 1 : 25 000 der Bundesrepublik Deutschland beschäftigt die Physische Geographie sowohl im akademischen als auch im angewandten Bereich. Immer stärker rücken die Fragen der Anwendung und Auswertung dieser Karten in den Vordergrund. Die Voraussetzungen für die Auswertung der GMK 25 BRD im Schulunterricht sind die grundlegende Fähigkeit zum Kartenlesen von Seiten des Schülers bzw. eine eindeutige Themensetzung von Seiten des Lehrers. Die GMK 25 BRD stellt für den Benutzer ein vielschichtiges Informationsmedium dar. Es werden spezielle kartographische Mittel verwendet, welche die Darstellung abstrakt machen (z.B. für die Reliefdarstellung oder die themenspezifischen Signaturen). Daß dadurch gewisse "Hemmschwellen" für eine Verwendung dieser anspruchsvollen Karten bestehen, ist nicht erstaunlich. Es kann jedoch festgehalten werden, daß sich der in Signaturen unterschiedlichster Art dargebotene Informationsgehalt auch im schulischen Bereich erarbeiten läßt. Die Befähigung des Schülers zur Kartenauswertung stellt sich allerdings nicht von selbst ein, sondern ist zu fordern und zu entwickeln. Durch den in zweifacher Weise lernzielorientierten Einsatz einer GMK 25 BRD, instrumental und themenbezogen, kann den schulischen Ansprüchen entsprochen werden.

    Description: ZUSAMMENFASSUNG : Für den Bereich der Libyschen Wüste sind, ebenso wie für die Zentralsahara, spätpleistozäne Feuchtphasen durch geomorphologische und prähistorische Befunde nachgewiesen. Diese Feuchtphasen lassen sieh jedoch nur in geringem Umfang in den 14C Datierungen von Grundwässern aus diesem Bereich wiederfinden. In dieser Arbeit wird festgestellt, wie hoch die Grundwasserbildung einzelner geomorphologischer Einheiten bei gegebenem Paläoklima war. Dazu erfolgt in einem ersten Schritt eine geomorphologische Kartierung eines etwa 250 km langen und 80 km breiten Streifens auf der Basis von Landsat-Satelitenbildern und Geländebefunden und die Rekonstruktion dreier Varianten eines fiktiven paläoklimatischen Jahresganges mit 242 mm, 194 mm und 147 mm Jahresniederschlag. Den geomorphologischen Komplexen werden bodenphysikalische Kenngrößen zugeordnet, dazu werden im Gelände ungestörte Proben in Stechzylindern geborgen und daran im Labor die gesättigte Wasserleitfähigkeit und pF-Kurve bestimmt. Nebenprodukt einer statistischen Bearbeitung der Meßwerte ist eine multiple Regressionsgleichung zur Bestimmung der Kf-Werte aus der pF-Kurve für Wüstenböden. In einem Exkurs erfolgt die Betrachtung der hydrologischen Bedeutung und möglichen Genese von häufig mit Flugsand verfüllten, polygonalen Rißsystemen im Boden. Mittels einer Clusteranalyse werden die Meßdaten in 10 Klassen gruppiert; sie finden dann als bodenphysikalische Kenngrößen Eingang in ein Finite-Differenzen-Modell, das auf der Basis der PORKER-PLANCK-GLEICHUNG den Bodenwasserhaushalt und damit die regionale Grundwasserneubildung simuliert. Diese Grundwasserneubildungsraten werden anhand des Verlaufes der Bodenwassergehalte hinsichtlich des Einflusses von Pflanzen und dadurch bedingter Transpirationsverluste diskutiert. Die höchsten Grundwasserneubildungsraten werden für den Bereich der Schwemmfächer des Gilf-Kebir-Vorlandes und für Sandschleppen in den Wadis des Gilf Kebir ermittelt. (60 mm bzw. 25 mm bei 242 mm bzw. 194 mm Jahresniederschlag). Die Bedeutung der weiten Serirflächen ist wesentlich geringer: Hier hat die wahrscheinlich präholozäne Anfüllung des Porenraumes mit Eisenoxiden und Carbonaten zu einer sekundären Überprägung der bodenphysikalischen Kennwerte geführt und so die Grundwasserbildungsrate reduziert (24 mm-36 mm bzw. 6 min-10 mm bei 242 mm bzw. 194 mm Jahresniederschlag). Ähnliche Werte wie die Serirflächen liefern die Bereiche mit rezenten Flugsanden (27 mm bzw. 11 mm bei 242 mm bzw. 194 mm Jahresniederschlag). Die Simulationsläufe mit 147 mm Jahresniederschlag erbrachten nirgends eine Grundwasserspende, ebenso kann für die übrigen geomorphologischen Einheiten eine Grundwasserneubildung bei den gewählten Paläoklimaten ausgeschlossen werden. Die nur geringe Befunddichte an holozänen Grundwässern im ägyptischen Teil der Libyschen Wüste läßt für die holozänen Feuchtphasen Niederschläge von maximal 200 mm/a als wahrscheinlich erscheinen.

    Description: Zur Vereinfachung wird die Vielfalt der Karstformenbezeichnungen bereinigt. Erdfall wird als Form, die in nicht verkarstungsfähigen Serien liegt, aber auf Tiefensubrosion zurückgeht, der Doline, einer Form, die in verkarstungsfähigem Material liegt, gegenübergestellt. Als Grundlage der Arbeit wurde eine detaillierte Kartierung der Auslaugungsformen durchgeführt. Hinsichtlich rezenter Subrosion erwies es sich als notwendig, die in Oberflächenwässern und wasserwirtschaftlich erfaßten Wässern gelösten Bestandteile von Chlorid, Sulfat und Karbonat zu ermitteln. Die Auswertung der gewonnenen Daten zeigt, daß ein Zusammenhang mit Gebieten besteht, die durch aktuelle Erdfälle und Dolineneinbrüche gekennzeichnet sind. Als Voraussetzung zur Reliefgenese gilt, daß das Gebiet des Unterwerra-Sattels entscheidend durch die saxonische Gebirgsbildung an der Wende Jura/Kreide und die nachfolgende klimageomorphologische Entwicklung geprägt ist. Anhand der geomorphographischen Analyse wird der Einfluß der Salz-, aber auch der Sulfatauslaugung auf die Landschaftsgenese belegt. Die Auslaugung des Salzes (Nal), dessen Mächtigkeit im Untersuchungsgebiet mit mindestens 120 m angenommen wird, und der unterlagernden ca. 130 m nächtigen Zechsteingipse (A 1 - A 3) zerrüttet die überlagernden triassischen Schichten weiter. Darüber hinaus wirkt die Subrosion von mehr als 30 m Rötgipsen und 50 m Gipsen des Mittleren Muschelkalkes im Hangenden des Zechsteins reliefformend. Die ermittelten Ergebnisse - rezente und subrezente Formen, Lösungswerte – werden zunächst in kleineren Gebietseinheiten analysiert. Die Ergebnisse der Nasseranalysen bestätigen das geomorphographische Ergebnis, so daß in Anlehnung an die Gipshorizonte von Stockwerkssubrosion gesprochen werden kann. Entscheidend geprägt ist die heutige Situation jedoch durch vorangegangene Zechsteinsalzauslaugung im tieferen Untergrund. Diese hat in den Hangendserien die Wasserwegsamkeit verstärkt, so daß die nachfolgende Sulfatsubrosion den Kleinformenschatz vor der Schichtstufe des Mittleren Buntsandsteins steuern konnte. Aufgrund ihrer für Auslaugungsgebiete typischen Ausprägung wird die Lage der Schichtstufe in weiten Teilen des Untersuchungsgebietes an das in Auslaugung befindliche Salz geknüpft. Das Auftreten von Subrosionsformen vor der Landstufe des Kaufunger Waldes, den östlichen Meißnerhängen, dem Anstieg des Schlierbachswaldes sowie vor dem Anstieg des Buntsandsteins zwischen Heldra, Frieda und Bad Sooden-Allendorf untermauert diese Interpretation. In der südlichen und südöstlichen Umrahmung des Untersuchungsgebietes wird der Salzhang aufgrund geomorphographischer Kriterien unter dem Steilanstieg des Unteren Muschelkalkes ausgewiesen. Aufgrund dieser Befunde wird die primäre Salzverbreitung als über den Unterwerra-Sattel reichend angenommen, womit sich, abgesehen von den Einflüssen der saxonischen Tektonik, alle Reliefentwicklungsprozesse allein durch Auslaugung und folgende geomorphologische Überprägung erklären lassen. Darüber hinaus ist dieses Gebiet in Nordhessen nicht nur durch eine über alle Schichten hinweggreifende Rumpfflächenbildung gekennzeichnet, sondern die Resistenzunterschiede wurden - unabhängig vom Klima - beständig herausgearbeitet. Aus diesen Ergebnissen wurde ein übergeordnetes Modell zur Reliefentwicklung erstellt. Danach existieren im Untersuchungsgebiet fünf Reliefgenerationen, wobei die postsaxonische Reliefentwicklung mit zerstörtem, die Auslaugung begünstigendem Hangendverband nach der Landhebung bzw. dem Einbruch der das Gebiet begrenzenden Grabenstrukturen, die bis ins Alttertiär reicht, nicht erfaßt werden konnte.     Description: In der vorliegenden Arbeit wurden Ergebnisse hydrologischer und stratigraphischer Studien zur Entwicklungsgeschichte von Brandenburger Kesselmooren vorgestellt. Für die Erfassung der aktuellen und historischen biotischen und abiotischen Standortfaktoren wurden verschiedene Methoden angewandt: floristische und vegetationskundliche Untersuchungen sowie hydrologische, hydrochemische, geochemische, geophysikalische und sedimentologische Untersuchungen und Makrorest-‚ Mikrorest- und Pollenanalyse. Der zeitlichen Einordnung der entwicklungsgeschichtlichen Prozesse dienten Radiocarbondatierungen und die pollenanalytischen Untersuchungen. Ziel der Arbeit war es, Entwicklungsstadien auszuscheiden, die von den untersuchten Mooren seit ihrer Entstehung durchlaufen wurden. Aufgrund der stratigraphischen Untersuchungen wurden Aussagen zur Beckengenese und zu den einzelnen See- und Moorentwicklungsphasen getroffen, zum Verlandungsvorgang, zu Moorbildungsbedingungen und Sukzessionsstadien. Den Entwicklungsstadien konnten über geochemische und -physikalische Untersuchungen abiotische Standortfaktoren zugeordnet werden. Die aktuellen Standortveränderungen wurden erfaßt und die vorgenommenen Erhaltungs- und Wiedervernässungsmaßnahmen dokumentiert und bewertet.

    Predictions of planets for 586 exosystems and a method for predicting planets in multi-planetary exosystems (2019)

    Description: We have applied a model of planetary system formation in the field of a standing sound wave (the ‘SSW-Model’) to the prediction of planets in 586 multi-planetary exosystems (384 biplanetary, 127 tri-planetary and 75 exosystems with four or more confirmed planets). We have verified our predictions using transit-like events from the NASA Threshold-Crossing Event (TCE) catalogue, finding that more than 80% of these events are included in our list of exoplanet predictions. We describe a method for predicting the periods and semi-major axes of additional planets for exosystems with two or more confirmed planets. Our method can significantly facilitate targeted searches for planets in exosystems, enabling the detection of many new exoplanets, including those located in the habitable zones.

    Description: Formenhinterlassenschaften des nordischen Inlandeises akkumulativer und erosiver Art werden als eine zeitlich zusammenhängende Funktionsgemeinschaft (〉 glaziale Serie) erklärt, auf ihre Besonderheiten und auf ihre räumliche Verteilung hingewiesen. Die wesentlichen Forschungsergebnisse vom Süd- bzw. Südwestrand (DDR und Schleswig-Holstein), sowie vom Westrand (Dänemark und Südschweden) des nordischen Inlandeises und seiner Rückschmelzlagen werden teils unter erforschungsgeschichtlichen Aspekten (Schleswig-Holstein), teils in Hinsicht auf eine eher aktuelle Erkenntnisbilanz (DDR, Dänemark und Südschweden) dargelegt. Kartierungen i.S. der Erfassung des oberflächennahen Substrats, verschiedene Methoden und Methodenkombinationen von Bohrverfahren, Aufgrabungen und Aufschlußkartierungen wurden im Gelände durchgeführt. Die sedimentologische, geschiebeanalytische und palynologische Bearbeitung geeigneter Sedimente sowie Radiokarbondatierungen und wenige zoologische Aussagen stellen die wesentlichen Auswertungen der Feldarbeiten dar. Auf der Grundlage der Pedostratigraphie läßt sich außer den aus der Literatur bekannten Interglazial-/Interstadialvorkommen an einer Stelle ein eem-/bzw. frühweichseleiszeitlicher Pedokomplex, sowie zahlreiche Spätglazialvorkommen terrestrischer und limnischer Fazies neu beschreiben. Lithostratigraphisch lassen sich zwei weichseleiszeitliche Moränen i.S. von Grundmoränen trennen, die sicherlich unterschiedlichen Eiworstößen innerhalb der Weichseleiszeit angehören. Diesen beiden Vorstößen sind morphostratigraphisch unterschiedliche Rückschmelzlagen zuzuordnen. Eine wartheeiszeitliche Moräne konnte mehrfach festgestellt werden. Auf der Grundlage der Morphostratigraphie werden insgesamt vier Haupteisrandlagen im Arbeitsgebiet als WH 1 bis WH 4 ausgewiesen, die durch Randlagen zweiter und dritter Ordnung noch untergliedert werden können. Dabei ergibt sich ein im Detail anderer Verlauf als bei EGGERS (1934), GRIPP (1954, 1964) und DÜCKER (1958). Auf der Grundlage bio- und chronostratigraphischer Untersuchungen wurde die Vegetationsentwicklung des Spätglazials bis ins Mittelholozän hinein verfolgt. Ergebnisse der Radiokohlenstoffdatierung stimmen mit den ermittelten vegetationsgeschichtlichen Abschnitten im Vergleich zu der allgemeinen Vegetationsentwicklung in Schleswig-Holstein und Mitteleuropa überein. Es konnte somit ein Mindestalter für die Bildung limnischer Sedimente an den untersuchten Lokalitäten gefunden werden.

    Description: In Niedersachsen werden während der nächsten zwei bis drei Jahrzehnte vermehrt industriell teilabgetorfte Hochmoorflächen (= Leegmoor) nach dem Ende der Abtorfung zurückgegeben, insgesamt nahezu 30.000 ha. Diese sollen gemäß Niedersächsischem Moorschutzprogramm unter gesetzlichen Naturschutz gestellt, wiedervernäßt und renaturiert werden. Eingangs werden gemessene Daten der Wasserbilanz und daraus abgeleitete ökohydrologische Erkenntnisse dargelegt. Da es gegenwärtig in Nordwestdeutschland keine wachsenden Hochmoore mehr gibt, wird die Morphologie ursprünglicher Hochmoore nach Topographischen Karten 1:25.000 der Jahrhundertwende vorgestellt und es wird auf die Erkenntnisse des Botanikers C. A. WEBER (1901) zurückgegriffen, der die Zusammenhänge zwischen Oberflächen-Morphologie, Moorvegetation und Torfbildung überzeugend dargelegt hat. Die geschilderten ökotechnischen Aspekte basieren auf Ergebnissen teils langjähriger Versuche, die der Autor als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter des Bodentechnologischen Instituts Bremen im Niedersächsischen Landesamt für Bodenforschung gewonnen hat, sowie auf umfangreichen Erfahrungen in der Beratung und auf vielen Besichtigungen und in Diskussionen mit Kollegen aus dem In- und Ausland. Es wurde ferner auf Erkenntnisse der Kulturtechnik in der angewandten Bodenkunde zurückgegriffen, so insbesondere bei den Verfahren der Wiedervernässung.
    Description: During the coming two to three decades in Lower Saxony more and more raised-bog cutover fields (= Leegmoore), in sum about 30.000 ha, will be given back for other kinds of utilization after peat cutting is finished. According to the Peatland Conservation Programme of Lower Saxony these areas shall be protected by law and shall then be rewetted and renatured. Introductory in this article measured water balance data and ecohydrological perceptions derived therefrom are explained. As at present there are no growing raised bogs in northwestern Germany the original raised-bog surface morphology is described on the basis of the Topographical Maps 1:25.000 from the turn of the century and of the knowledge of the botanist C. A. WEBER (1901) who has convincingly elucidated the relationship between surface morphology, living vegetation, and peat accumulation. The described ecotechnical aspects are based on results of partly longterm field experiments which the author has won as Senior Officer at the Soil-technological Institute Bremen, on extensive experiences in consulting, as well as on many excursions and in discussions with collegues from Germany and foreign countries. Further, the experiences of agricultural engineering in applied flood irrigation have been used, especially with respect to the rewetting processes.

    Description: Es werden eingangs die negativen Erfahrungen der Mooraufforstungen Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts aufgrund der modernen Erkenntnisse der Moorkunde und Kulturtechnik gedeutet. Mit Hinweis auf den großräumigen Waldbau auf den Mooren Finnlands, Kanadas und der Sowjetunion werden 4-5 Jahrzehnte alte und jüngste Mooraufforstungen behandelt, die Versuchsaufforstung in Papenburg-Börgermoorweide erläutert und auf die sich daraus ergebenden Folgerungen eingegangen.
    Description: In the beginning, the negative experiences by bog afforesting at the end of the 19th century are explained with the modern knowledge in peat research and agricultural engineering. In reference to the large forestry on peatlands in Finland, Canada and the USSR, recent afforestations and those with an age of 40-50 years are described. Then the experimental reforestation in Papenburg-Börgermoorweide is explained, and the resulting inferences are discussed.

    Description: Von 186 natürlichen Gewässern im Flachland Niedersachsens liegen 48 % in Mooren und Anmooren. Auch die drei größten Binnenseen Steinhuder Meer, Dümmer und Zwischenahner Meer sind von Mooren umgeben. Die Erhaltung und Regeneration von Feuchtbiotopen und Moorgewässern ist seit 1973 gesetzlich vorgeschrieben. Es wird unterschieden zwischen (tiefen) Moorseen und (flachen) Moorteichen, die natürlich entstanden oder durch den Menschen angelegt sind. Es werden die wichtigsten Daten der Wasserbilanz diskutiert, wie Niederschlag und Zufluß (= input) sowie Verdunstung und Abfluß (= output). Auch die Gewässergüte wird angesprochen und damit die Zuordnung zu limnologisch definierten Seentypen.
    Description: About 48 % of the 186 lakes and ponds in Lower Saxony are situated in peatlands and peaty soils. Also the three greatest lakes Steinhuder Meer, Dümmer and Zwischenahner Meer are surrounded by peatland. Since 1973 the law has provided that wet biotopes and moor waters be preserved and regenerated. A distinction is made between (deep) lakes and (shallow) ponds which have formed under natural conditions or were man-made. The important data on the water balance, such as input (rainfall and influx) and output (evaporation and discharge) are discussed. Additionally, the quality of water is discussed and thus, also, the assignment to limnologically defined types of lakes.

    30 Jahre Grundwasserbeobachtungen im Königsmoor, einem seit 75 Jahren »trockengelegten« Hochmoor (2019)

    Description: Es wird kurz das Königsmoor bei Tostedt (Krs. Harburg) beschrieben und die anthropogene Entwicklung nach Entwässerung und Moorkultur im Jahre 1905 Vom Hochmoor zum Moorkulturtyp heute dargelegt. Die Von 1950 bis 1979 fortlaufend gemessenen Grundwasserdaten sind als Ganglinie dargestellt (Abb. 5). Die positiven und negativen Abweichungen vom durchschnittlichen Jahresgang sind witterungsbedingt. Aus dem Hochmoor hat sich ein Hochmoorboden mit Oxidations- und Reduktions-Horizont entwickelt. Die mittlere Grundwasseramplitude (Abb. 6) beträgt heute 52 cm zwischen MHW im Winter (= 59 cm unter Flur) und MNW im Sommer (= 111 cm unter Flur). Die Feldkapazität des Hochmoorbodenprofils beträgt heute noch über 70 Vol.-% Wasser. Der Ausdruck "trockengelegtes" Hochmoor bedeutet aus bodenhydrologischer Sicht, daß man den Hochmoorboden heute "trockenen Fußes" begehen kann.
    Description: The peatland area Koenigsmoor (between Hamburg and Bremen) is shortly described, the anthropogeneous development after the first drainage and cultivation (in 1905) from a raised bog to a today cultivated bog soil is explained. The measured groundwater data from 1950 to 1979 are figured as hydrograph (fig. 5). The positive and negative deviations from the average annual course is influenced by the weather. The former raised bog has been developed to a bog soil type with ground—water oxidation and reduction soil horizons. The mean ground-water amplitude (fig. 6) amounts today to 52 cm between the mean maximum in winter (= 59 cm below surface) and the mean minimum in summer (= 111 cm below surface). The field capacity of the raised-bog soil-profile today amounts still to about 70 volume percent water. From the pedohydrological viewpoint the term "dry laid" raised bog means that we can walk on the cultivated bog-soil surface by "dry shod".

    Description: Fragestellung und Ergebnis der Arbeit beschäftigen sich mit einer pleistozänen Vergletscherung der peruanischen Anden, die nach der in Kap. 4 zitierten Literatur und den in Abb. 56 dargestellten Werten derzeit nicht für möglich gehalten wird. Nach der Publikation erster Ergebnisse (SCHULZ 1986, 1987a, 1987b, 1987c, 1988a, 1988b, 1988c, 1988d, 1989b. 1989C, 1990) hat sich daran nichts geändert. Hiermit wird nun in großer Breite das Beleg- und in Teilbereichen auch Beweismaterial aus einer flächendeckenden, repräsentativen Kartenanalyse vorgelegt. Dabei wurde der Eindeutigkeit oberste Priorität eingeräumt. Alle Formenbeispiele, die eine weitergehende, noch größere Vereisung wahrscheinlich machen, werden in der Beweisführung nicht berücksichtigt. Diese über den karteninterpretatorisch abgesicherten Bereich der Vereisung hinausgehende, mutmaßlich noch größere Vergletscherung als in Abb. 1 (in der Anlage) dargestellt, muß eine Geländeprüfung erhärten oder verwerfen.

    Description: Die Badain Jaran Shamo ist als drittgrößte Wüste Chinas durch besondere hydrologische Verhältnisse geprägt, als deren sichtbarer Ausdruck die Existenz von mehr als 100 perennierender Oberflächengewässer im Südosten der Wüste gilt (Abb. 1). In diesem Bereich der Wüste treten auch mit relativen Höhen bis zu 430 m (eigene Messungen mittels Höhenmesser der Fa. THOMMEN) die höchsten Megadünen Zentralasiens, möglicherweise sogar der ganzen Erde auf. Da die Gewässer ganz überwiegend in den Dünentalungen der NE-SW streichenden Megadünen vorkommen, ist ein kausaler Zusammenhang der Gewässerverteilung und der Megadünen zu erwarten. Es ist Ziel, mit der vorliegenden Arbeit die rezenten und vorzeitlichen geoökologischen Verhältnisse lakustriner Systeme am Beispiel der Badain Jaran Wüste und ihres südöstlichen Vorlandes darzulegen und zu deuten sowie einen aktualistisch orientierten Beitrag zur Kenntnis zentralasiatischer Seen und ihrer Veränderungen zu leisten.

    Description: Vom größten Moorgebiet Österreichs, dem Ibm-Waidmoos-Bürmoos-Komplex, werden die vermutliche Urvegetation, die bis ca. 1960 vorhandenen Reste naturnaher Vegetation und die Veränderungen derselben in den letzten fünfundzwanzig Jahren besprochen. Flächen mit ehemaligem Hand-Torfstich sind während dieses Zeitraums nach dem Ende der Nutzung stark verbuscht, frühere Streuwiesengebiete versauern (Ausbreitung von Hochmoorarten) oder verschilfen (Ausbreitung von Phragmites, Cladium und Sphagnum-Arten in der Moosschicht). Auch hier ist eine Verbuschungstendenz vorhanden, sie bleibt aber bisher geringer als erwartet. Im allgemeinen kann man sagen, daß die durch die menschliche Einflußnahme entstandenen Vegetationsgrenzen sich allmählich zu verwischen beginnen und die Vegetation sich auf die natürlichen Umweltfaktoren allein einzustellen beginnt.
    Description: This paper deals with the largest mire complex in Austria, the Ibm-Waidmoos-Bürmoos-complex. It gives a survey of the semi-natural vegetation remaining until c. 1960, the different kinds of disturbance and the changes in the vegetation cover after the conclusion of human interference in some parts of the mire. In areas where peat was formerly cut by hand, trees grew up (Pinus sylvestris, Picea excelsa, Betula pubescens); areas used for litter production became acidified (thereby encouraging raised bog species to spread) or became covered with reeds (spread of Phragmites, Cladium, and Sphagnum species in the moss layer: Sph. palustre, Sph. Papillosum, Sph. subnitens). Here too there is scrub growth but to a lesser extent than expected. In general it can be said that the vegetation limits caused by human interference are gradually beginning to become less distinct, and that the vegetation is starting to respond to environmental factors alone.
