    Description: In spite of extensive research in the field of cultural studies, the topic of fear has not yet been exhausted, especially considering that not even the semantics of its linguistic devices or the diversity of its linguistic constructions have been satisfactorily explained. This study looks to the present day to examine which media generate fear by which means and manage to assert themselves as an acceptable perspective on social reality.

    Description: This study suggests a new definition of the highly disputed class of noun-verb combinations. The new approach offered here does not begin, as before, with the verb, but rather, examines the semantic and pragmatic properties of the noun-verb construction as a whole. Another important aim is to explain the status of noun-verb combinations in the transitional realm between lexicon and grammar, and between regularity and irregularity.

    Description: Wenngleich die Bestimmung des medizinisch ‚Normalen’ einen zentralen Aspekt wissenschaftstheoretischer und -historischer Diskussion darstellt, ist die kommunikative Konstruktion von Normalitäten nur selten Gegenstand empirischer Untersuchungen. Zwar ist bekannt, dass medizinische und alltagsweltliche Konzepte von Normalität divergieren können – doch: Was bedeutet das für die Kommunikation in der medizinischen Praxis? Wie, in welchen Kontexten und zu welchen Zwecken greifen z.B. Ärzt:innen und Patient:innen auf interaktive ‚Praktiken des Normalisierens‘ zurück? Im Zuge der Auseinandersetzung mit der kommunikativen Konstruktion von Normalitäten auf der Grundlage empirischer Analysen authentischer Gespräche liefern die hier versammelten Beiträge interaktionslinguistische Erkenntnisse u.a. zur interaktiven Positionierung im Gespräch, zur Interaktionalen Semantik sowie zur interaktional ausgerichteten Konstruktionsgrammatik. Auch zeigen sie konzeptuelle und methodische Verknüpfungen zu Fragen der Medizin und der qualitativen Sozialforschung auf.     Description: Is our thinking and thus the worldview the same or language-specific for all people? This book is an unequivocal answer to this age-old question, which was already pursued by Wilhelm von Humboldt: Our worldview is characterized by the grammar of one's mother tongue (s), so that people perceive, verbalise and also remember events in a language-specific way. These basic insights are made possible for the first time by the experimental approach of psycholinguistic methods (such as eye-tracking) selected here. The influence of language on cognition also proves to be extremely relevant to language contact. As a result of the centuries-long language contact between German and Czech, the aspect system of Czech has changed in such a way that event conzeptualization proceeds both in Czech and in German, and that Czech is systematically different from other East and West Slavic languages.
    Description: Ist unser Denken und somit die Weltsicht für alle Menschen gleich oder sprachspezifisch? Auf diese uralte Fragestellung, der bereits Wilhelm von Humboldt nachgegangen ist, gibt dieses Buch eine eindeutig bejahende Antwort: Unsere Weltanschauung wird durch die Grammatik der eigenen Muttersprache(n) geprägt, sodass Menschen Ereignisse sprachspezifisch wahrnehmen, versprachlichen und auch erinnern. Diese grundlegenden Erkenntnisse sind durch den hier gewählten experimentellen Zugang psycholinguistischer Methoden (z.B. Eye-Tracking) erstmalig möglich.Der Einfluss von Sprache auf Kognition erweist sich darüber hinaus für Sprachkontakt als extrem relevant. Infolge des über Jahrhunderte andauernden Sprachkontakts zwischen dem Deutschen und Tschechischen hat sich das Aspekt-System des Tschechischen dahingehend geändert, dass die Ereigniskonzeptualisierung im Tschechischen wie im Deutschen verläuft und das Tschechische sich systematisch von anderen ost- und westslawischen Sprachen absetzt.
