    Description: This study examines the internal discourse on religious education (RE) at two secondary schools in Vienna using a qualitative empirical method. At these schools RE have reached their oraganisational limits. The study has made a major contribution to religious education sensitive to contexts by exploring the most times implicit attitudes towards religion and RE from teachers and from members of the school community board.
    Description: Mit Hilfe eines qualitativ-empirischen Verfahrens untersucht diese Studie den schulinternen Diskurs um den Religionsunterricht an zwei höheren Schulen Wiens, an denen dieser organisatorisch an Grenzen gerät. Die Studie leistet einen wertvollen Beitrag zu einer kontextsensiblen Religionspädagogik, indem sie die vielfach impliziten Einstellungen zu Religion und Religionsunterricht von Lehrkräften und Mitgliedern des Schulgemeinschaftsausschusses erforscht.

    Description: Documentary school research establishes a research direction in which the interrelationship of subject-related knowledge acquisition and methodological-methodological aspects is reflexively examined. This volume is the prelude to several anthologies that have been produced in theDFG-funded network ""Documentary School Research"" (NeDoS) and are dedicated to this interrelationship. Three subject areas of documentary school research are the focus of this first volume: School Development, School Culture and School as Organisation. Fundamental questions are raised and dealt with in conceptual contributions. The current research situation is systematically presented in study reviews for each of the three subject areas as well as for existing English-language studies. Current approaches and results of school research operating with the documentary method are also presented in empirical contributions. Finally, the anthology also shows gaps and desiderata in school research using the documentary method and encourages further work in this field of research.
    Description: Mit der Dokumentarischen Schulforschung wird eine Forschungsrichtung begründet, in der das Wechselverhältnis von gegenstandsbezogener Erkenntnisgewinnung und methodisch-methodologischen Aspekten reflexiv in den Blick genommen wird. Der vorliegende Band bildet den Auftakt mehrerer Sammelbände, die imDFG-geförderten Netzwerk „Dokumentarische Schulforschung“ (NeDoS) entstanden sind und sich diesem Wechselverhältnis widmen. Drei Gegenstandsfelder einer Dokumentarischen Schulforschung stehen im Mittelpunkt dieses ersten Bandes: Schulentwicklung, Schulkultur und Schule als Organisation. In konzeptionellen Beiträgen werden grundlegende Fragen aufgeworfen und bearbeitet. Zu jedem der drei Gegenstandsfelder sowie zu vorliegenden englischsprachigen Studien wird über Studienreviews die aktuelle Forschungslage systematisch dargestellt. Aktuelle Zugänge und Ergebnisse einer mit der Dokumentarischen Methode operierenden Schulforschung werden darüber hinaus in empirischen Beiträgen präsentiert. Der Sammelband zeigt abschließend auch Leerstellen und Desiderate einer mit der Dokumentarischen Methode operierenden Schulforschung und regt zur Fortsetzung der Arbeit in diesem Forschungsfeld an.

    Description: Much like the first volume published in 2011, the second volume of this anthology series gathers a selection of analyses which are empirically based on the data of the Swiss panel study TREE (Transitions from Education to Employment). The contributions of this volume carry on the investigation of the critical transitions during youth and young adulthood, drawing on sociological, economic, psychological and pedagogical research questions and thus highlighting the analytic and pluri-disciplinary research potential of the TREE data. One of the topical foci is the longterm influence of social origin on education and labour market pathways, particularly with regard to access to higher education.

    Description: Education is and will probably remain the all-dominant topic of the 21st century. The consequences of a lack of or exclusion from education must be correspondingly dramatic. In the economic and sociological labour market literature, the same dominant explanatory pattern, the displacement mechanism, can now be found for the increasing disadvantage of low-skilled persons: the low-skilled are "displaced" by the better-skilled. In contrast to the theoretical considerations and empirical analyses in this book, the significance of processes of increasing discreditation, social impoverishment and stigmatization is worked out and emphasized - it is therefore more a matter of social inequality than of "displacement".

    Description: The concept of sustainability is increasingly losing its contours. This study reflects on the understanding of sustainability used in research and science. Its authors thus enable us to concisely determine not only concrete contributions to sustainability, but also its limits. Based on an analytical understanding of sustainability and the basic structure of practical dilemmas, the book identifies typical conflicts as causes of dilemmas. Meta-criteria of sustainability allow us to identify dilemmas and to clarify and deal with them practically at an early stage. Finally, the study applies these meta-criteria in concrete project contexts by means of guiding questions for reflection.

    Description: Current social and technological processes are overtaking many visions developed in classic 20th century science fiction at breathtaking speed; other elements of the genre remain 'alien' even today. In order to explore this tension, this volume looks at places that focus on this ambivalence: the heroes, thought and action patterns of science fiction. According to this guiding thesis of the volume, elements can be found in science fictional thinking that are relevant for the analysis and critique of current pedagogical conditions.
