    Description: Lo auténtico, como lo autóctono, aparece vinculado a la localidad, pero la globalización la ha vaciado de gran parte de su población autóctona, ha vuelto obsoletas sus formas productivas y ha modificado su estilo de vida. La repuesta de las poblaciones locales consiste a menudo en la creación o recreación de formas “tradicionales, “auténticas” en ámbitos tales como el patrimonio, los museos, las fiestas, la arquitectura, la gastronomía, y la identidad. Este proceso no ha de ser considerado como una reacción tradicionalista ni nostálgica, sino más bien como el reflejo del fuerte compromiso de las localidades con las fuerzas de la globalización. Este libro es consecuencia de los resultados de una investigación etnográfica sobre la interacción entre procesos globales y locales en diversas áreas de montaña de Cataluña y en una del País Vasco, en las que se producen procesos de terciarización de la economía, de patrimonialización de la naturaleza y de la cultura, debidas al influjo del mercado, de las políticas de la Unión Europea, del estado, y de las demandas de los habitantes de las ciudades

    Description: The Nordic model attracts attention in a mixture of applause and disbelief. Among its merits, but also a precondition to its future survival, is its capacity to modify and adapt to changing circumstances. This book scrutinizes Nordic – in particular Norwegian – working life and welfare states from the perspective of institutional change. The analyses range from property rights, boardroom politics and wage formation to old-age pensions, care work and childcare policies. What emerges is a picture of societies characterized by ongoing, often incremental, social and political reform processes. Tripartite relations of coordination and negotiation in the labor market and beyond, give shape to power relations and political processes in particular ways. The close connections between labour market, welfare state, family and gender policies work to create institutional bundles – in an even stronger way than assumed in the Varieties of Capitalism literature.The book is written for students and scholars with an interest in Nordic societies, in corporatism and political processes, as well as readers interested in theoretical debate on varieties of capitalism and institutional change.

    Description: Las tecnologías son ideas en acción que comportan cambios constantes en las formas de comunicación, los procesos de trabajo y los sistemas organizativos y que, en la actualidad, plantean nuevos retos en las formas de pensar, virtualizar la realidad y conectarse social e interculturalmente. Es preciso un esfuerzo analítico para entender las nuevas relaciones entre tecnología y sociedad, en un mundo en que las categorías y dicotomías establecidas se disuelven impugnadas por las innovaciones tecnocientíficas e industriales. En este nuevo paisaje tecnocultural, la mirada etnográfica y la perspectiva de la antropología proporcionan una profundidad descriptiva y una agudeza en la interpretación que son necesarias tanto para la elaboración de un diagnóstico ajustado como para el diseño de futuros deseables. Los textos recopilados en este libro, publicados originariamente en distintas revistas y obras colectivas a lo largo de más de veinte años, ponen de manifiesto la sólida contribución de la antropóloga Maria Jesús Buxó al análisis cultural de la tecnología como expresión más genuina de la creatividad y la innovación.     Description: One of the most fascinating yet least explored questions in art history is that of status in art. The analysis of how artists and artworks achieve recognition or not, both during their lifetimes and beyond, leads us into sociology of art, a field that, regarding modern sculpture, has received little attention internationally, and is largely untouched in terms of the Catalan and Spanish contexts. This objective of this volume is to contribute to our understanding of the mechanisms of status and success in nineteenth- and twentieth-century sculpture, especially in Spain and Catalonia. The authors, experts from Europe and America, address the topic both from theoretical viewpoints, and considering the impact on the construction of artists’ careers. They also explore the possibilities of sculpture as an object on the path to artistic recognition, and the particularities of status in specific historical circumstances, such as under Franco’s dictatorship, in which art is not always put at the service of an ideology.

    Description: ‘Genealogy, Archive, Image’ addresses the ways in which history and tradition are ‘reinvented’ through text, memory and painting. It examines the making of dynastic history in the kingdom of Jhalavad, situated in Gujarat, western India, over the longue durée, from the eleventh to twentieth centuries. The essays critique a collection of contemporary miniature paintings, which chart the dynastic history of Jhalavad’s rulers and the textual and ethnographic archive upon which they are based. A multidisciplinary work, it crosses the boundaries of history, anthropology, folklore and mythology, gender, musicology, literary studies, and visual, film and digital media. The essays draw upon a variety of voices, spanning various religious and ethnic communities, including Hindus, Muslims, Jains, Parsees and Siddhi Africans, and caste identities, such as that of the bard, ballad singer, king, priest, court chronicler, soldier, mason and drummer.

    'A Peep at the Blacks'. A History of Tourism at Coranderrk Aboriginal Station, 1863-1924 (2021)

    Description: This book is concerned with the history of tourism at the Coranderrk Aboriginal Station at Healesville, northeast of Melbourne, which functioned as a government reserve from 1863 until its closure in 1924. At Coranderrk, Aboriginal mission interests and tourism intersected and the station became a ‘showplace’ of Aboriginal culture and the government policy of assimilation. The Aboriginal residents responded to tourist interest by staging cultural performances that involved boomerang throwing and traditional ways of lighting fires and by manufacturing and selling traditional artifacts. Whenever government policy impacted adversely on the Aboriginal community, the residents of Coranderrk took advantage of the opportunities offered to them by tourism to advance their political and cultural interests. This was particularly evident in the 1910s and 1920s when government policy moved to close the station.
