    Description: Acta Slavica Estonica is an international series of publications on current issues of Russian and other Slavic languages, literatures and cultures. This issue of the subseries “Blokovskii sbornik” continues the series of studies started by Zara Mints in 1964. The majority of works from Section I of the book, “The Art of А. Blok in the Context of 19th–20th Century Literature,” is devoted to the study of the poet’s works, his perceptions of preceding writers’ works, and his biographical and artistic contacts with contemporaries. The articles in Section II, “Silver Age Literature: Creative and Social Strategies,” are mainly focused on artistic works and essays of modernist literati contemporary to Blok or to some extent resonating with his poetry and artistic worldview.

    Description: Russian-language edition: In Russia and America a perceived absence of literature gave rise to grandiose notions of literature's importance. This book examines how two traditions worked to refigure cultural lack, not by disputing it but by insisting on it, by representing the nation's (putative) cultural deficit as a moral and aesthetic advantage. Through a comparative study of Gogol and Hawthorne, this book examines parallels that seem particularly striking when we consider that these traditions had virtually no points of contact. Yet the unexpected parallels between these authors are the result of historical similarities: Russians and Americans felt obliged to develop a manifestly national literature ex nihilo, and to do so in an age when an unprecedented diversity of printed texts were circulating among an ever more heterogeneous reading public. Responding to these conditions, Gogol and Hawthorne articulated ideas that would prove influential for their nations' literary development: that is, despite the culture's thinness and deviation from European norms, it would soon produce works that would surpass European literature in significance.

    Description: Russian-language edition: This three-volume book investigates the Russian transformations of one of the central concepts of Greek Christology, the self-humiliation or kenosis of Christ. The author applies rhetoric (paradox, metaphor, metonymy) as a means to elucidate mechanisms of theological persuasion and to trace the representations of the humiliated Christ and his imitations in various media from liturgy and iconology to everyday practice and literary fiction. The exploration of post-Christian literature of the 19th and 20th century (N. Chernyshevskii, M. Gor’kii, N. Ostrovskii, Ven. Erofeev, Vl. Sorokin) demonstrates the existence of a kenotic Christology after Christianity.

    Description: In Making Martyrs: The Language of Sacrifice in Russian Culture from Stalin to Putin, Yuliya Minkova examines the language of canonization and vilification in Soviet and post-Soviet media, official literature, and popular culture. She argues that early Soviet narratives constructed stories of national heroes and villains alike as examples of uncovering a person's "true self." The official culture used such stories to encourage heroic self-fashioningamong Soviet youth and as a means of self-policing and censure. Later Soviet narratives maintained this sacrificial imagery in order to assert the continued hold of Soviet ideology on society, while post-Soviet discourses of victimhood appeal to nationalist nostalgia. Sacrificial mythology continues to maintain a persistent hold in contemporary culture, as evidenced most recently by the Russian intelligentsia's fascination with the former oligarch Mikhail Khodorkovsky, the Russian media coverage of the war in Ukraine, laws against US adoption of Russian children and against the alleged propaganda of homosexuality aimed at minors, renewed national pride in wartime heroes, and the current usage of the words "sacred victim" in public discourse. In examining these various cases, the book traces the trajectory of sacrificial language from individual identity construction to its later function of lending personality and authority to the Soviet and post-Soviet state.

Lúcia Granja analisa a Poética da escrita jornalística em Machado de Assis, passando pelas crônicas do Diário do Rio de Janeiro e O Cruzeiro, alguns contos e o romance Memórias Póstumas de Brás Cubas.     Description: This collection of essays covers a hundred-year history of Russian-language literature in Israel, including the pre-state period. Some of the studies are devoted to an overview of the literary process and the activities of its participants, others—to individual genres and movements. As a result, a complex and multifaceted picture emerges of a not quite fully defined, but very lively and dynamic community that develops in the most difficult conditions. The contributors trace the paths of Russian-Israeli prose, poetry and drama, various waves of avant-garde, fantasy, and critical thought. Today, in Russian-Israeli literature, the voices of writers of various generations and waves of repatriation are intertwined: from the "seventies" to the "war aliyah" of the recent times. Both the Russian-Israeli authors and their critics often hold different opinions of their respective roles in Israel’s historical and literary storms. While disagreeing on the definition of their place on the map of modern culture, Russian-Israeli writers are united by a shared bond with the fate of the Jewish state.

    Description: Neste livro, Francisco Cláudio Alves Marques examina a participação do imigrante italiano no processo de urbanização paulista nos anos de 1920, no qual se misturavam trabalhadores de procedências diversas, como o escravo recém-liberto, o caipira e o imigrante italiano vindo da zona rural, todos “desenraizados” no espaço ou no tempo. É dessa perspectiva que o autor procura compreender as caricaturas elaboradas por Juó Bananére e António de Alcântara Machado, considerando-as mais do que manifestação de rejeição ou acolhimento do imigrante, mas expressão do papel desse contingente nas transformações por que passava o País no período em que se discutia a configuração da identidade nacional. Para lançar luz sobre a representação do imigrante italiano nas obras daqueles dois escritores paulistas, a autor considera aspectos históricos, sociológicos e culturais implicados no processo imigratório do início do século XX. Partindo da caracterização da personagem macarrônica, nos planos gráfico e linguístico, o autor chega a possíveis sentidos do efeito cômico dessa caricatura na percepção do papel do imigrante italiano na constituição da sociedade brasileira, aspecto que enseja sutil contraste com o nacionalismo na obra de Alcântara Machado.

    Description: Este estudo crítico defende que é possível aproximar a produção narrativa de Jorge Luis Borges e José Saramago tendo como guia a imagem do labirinto, selecionando três grandes perspectivas em que ela se desdobra. A primeira delas é a espacial. Ambos os escritores tendem a descrever os ambientes por onde circulam os personagens, traçando uma analogia com as definições e características labirínticas acumuladas ao longo do tempo. Em segundo lugar está a evocação do labirinto na própria escrita, na forma de organizar os textos, na pontuação e, principalmente, no tom ensaístico-filosófico e nas notas digressivas intercaladas ao enredo. Por último, a busca pela identidade também se associa a vias labirínticas, na medida em que se compõe como um trajeto cheio de incertezas, objetivando chegar ao centro, isto é, ao encontro de um eu consigo mesmo e com um outro.

    Description: Yosano Akiko (1878–1942) has long been recognized as one of the most important literary figures of prewar Japan. Her renown derives principally from the passion of her early poetry and from her contributions to 20th-century debates about women. This emphasis obscures a major part of her career, which was devoted to work on the Japanese classics and, in particular, the great Heian period text The Tale of Genji. Akiko herself felt that Genji was the bedrock upon which her entire literary career was built, and her bibliography shows a steadily increasing amount of time devoted to projects related to the tale. This study traces for the first time the full range of Akiko’s involvement with The Tale of Genji. The Tale of Genji provided Akiko with her conception of herself as a writer and inspired many of her most significant literary projects. She, in turn, refurbished the tale as a modern novel, pioneered some of the most promising avenues of modern academic research on Genji, and, to a great extent, gave the text the prominence it now enjoys as a translated classic. Through Akiko’s work Genji became, in fact as well as in name, an exemplum of that most modern of literary genres, the novel. In delineating this important aspect of Akiko’s life and her bibliography, this study aims to show that facile descriptions of Akiko as a “poetess of passion” or “new woman” will no longer suffice.

    Description: Os onze ensaios aqui reunidos agrupam-se em duas partes: “Estudos comparativos” e “Aspectos da narrativa rosiana”. A primeira tem como eixos a relação entre narrativas de Guimarães Rosa e escritos literários de outros autores e a relação entre elas e produções cinematográficas que traduzem para outra linguagem o universo do escritor mineiro. Os estudos da segunda parte – além de sugerirem um possível caminho para a construção de uma poética rosiana a partir de juízos do próprio escritor, sobretudo acerca da literatura e de sua relação com a língua, em escritos não literários e também literários – demonstram como, na construção da narrativa rosiana, é explorada a relação entre som e sentido, analisam como o autor trata as paixões humanas que desafiam os padrões impostos pela razão e salientam a antropomorfização da natureza como componente erótico. As autoras, com esta publicação, almejam contribuir para uma melhor compreensão da obra de Guimarães Rosa e suscitar reflexões, pois, como ele escreveu em Grande sertão: veredas, “Vivendo, se aprende; mas o que se aprende, mais, é só a fazer outras maiores perguntas”.

    Description: Neste livro abre-se a uma diversidade de acepções que o conceito de espaço abriga nos objetos e cenários literários contemporâneos. O próprio texto como um espaço espacializante, na sua textualidade como corpo ou na visualidade da escrita, configura um espaço de linguagem. O contexto cultural e histórico envolve referências e dados situados em determinados momentos que articulam um espaço de relações com o texto literário. O espaço da institucionalização, com as representações de poder, o espaço social, o espaço como paisagem, nas configurações natural, regional, física e psicológica, e o espaço do mito com suas imagens e sentidos simbólicos, são outras formas de mobilização do conceito. O espaço pictórico, quer como elemento componente da pintura ou como a própria linguagem na composição da escritura, que se vale de técnicas plásticas, também é contemplado, assim como esse tipo de diálogo abriga outros meios e linguagens, como o cinema, a propaganda, a fotografia, nas relações entre as artes. Há também a possibilidade de se rever o objeto literário, em termos de espacialidade, sob essa perspectiva múltipla do olhar contemporâneo. Ou seja, no lugar daquele sentido restrito de categoria estrutural, o conceito incorpora uma visão ampla e metafórica, dentro da qual o próprio texto faz emergir uma concepção e função da espacialidade por meio de suas estratégias de construção. Diante de tantas possibilidades de leitura do conceito, o presente livro reúne textos que abordam aspectos da simbolização espacial em obras literárias que implicam um olhar contemporâneo para essas figurações.

    Description: Der Band behandelt die kirchenslavische Übersetzung der Dioptra des Philippos Monotropos. Im Zentrum steht die Überlieferungsgeschichte des slavischen Textes. Weiters wird eine kritische Edition der Vorworte und des ersten Buches, jeweils mit griechischem Paralleltext, geboten.Диоптра объемная дидактическая поэма, написана византийским монахом Филиппом (позже известен под именем Monotropоs − «Пустынник») в 1095 г. и состоящая из пяти книг, которые представляют настоящий справочник теологическиx и философских знаний того времени. Церковнославянский перевод был создан около середины ХIV в. в одном из центров среднеболгарской письменности и пользовался большой популярностью по всей «Slavia orthodoxa», о которой свидетельствуют более 200 рукописей. Большая часть настоящего тома посвещена истории славянского перевода и его рукописной истории. Потом следует критическое издание предисловий и первой книги с греческим параллельным текстом и немецким переводом.

    Description: Paradoxality as a Specific Feature of Dostoevsky’s Literary Works. Techniques, Stylistics, Mechanisms of Action. All works by Dostoevsky reveal the presence of paradox. These paradoxes act according to mechanisms that depend either on the fictional (polyphonic) or nonfictional (monologic) text “dominant.” Taking as a starting point (a) the arguments of G.S. Morson, according to whom paradoxes “seem to carry the quintessence of ‘Dostoevskyism’, particularly of his brand of humor,” (b) the analysis of Dostoevsky’s paradoxical humor; and (c) the three main categories of paradoxes (“empty or rhetorical”, “negative”, “positive”), we argue that Dostoevsky applies a fourth type of paradox, one that affects neither the premise nor the ending of the paradoxical structure, but their intrinsic logical interconnection. This article analyses a repertoire of paradoxical techniques used by Dostoevsky, focusing on the destabilizing humoristic function they enact.

    Description: Humor and Irony as a Means of Combating Atheism in the Discourse of F.M. Dostoevsky . The question of the God’s existence troubled Dostoevsky throughout his life. He created a very convincing portrait of the atheist of his time. He did not consider unbelievers immoral, but only “infected with recklessness”, and when speaking of his atheist acquaintances, often admitted that they were good people. Dostoevsky created the image of an atheist as an intelligent person, who is guided not by the heart, but by the mind and who often evokes sympathy for his questing, his thinking, and his suffering (like Versilov or Ivan Karamazov). If we carefully consider the “atheistic” characters of Dostoevsky, however, we will see that atheism is a phenomenon associated with something both bad and funny. Through humorous details, Dostoevsky imperceptibly creates an image of the “atheist” as a comical and frivolous person.

When considering laughter in Dostoevsky, one immediately thinks of the long “tirade” in The Adolescent, which proposes a kind of physiology of laughter, and its unpredictable effects on the perception of those who witness it. Laughter and caustic humor color even the most intimate confessions and can serve to partially mask the difficult action of revealing oneself before others. Modernity itself is the era of self-exhibition, of a sort of widespread confession. And yet, the laughter of modernity has lost the essence of joy. Joy is a function of that almost impossible sincerity that unveils the essence of man. The grimace of the fool, who shamelessly denudes himself before others in confession, becomes a sign of the isolation of the modern self and the end of the utopia of sincerity pursued by Rousseau.

Els articles que aplega Violència i identitat, escrits per especialistes en crítica literària i estudis culturals, tracten aquestes qüestions alternant la mirada cap a les víctimes amb les múltiples figuracions de la violència en llibres com Barbablavai Cinquanta ombres de Grey, en la narrativa negra catalana escrita per dones, en l’obra d’autors sirians i en la de Jean Améry, Ryszard Kapuscinski, Herta Müller, Isabella Santacroce i debbie tucker green, entre d’altres. En conjunt, el volum cartografia la violència i també la seva funció, la identitat, de manera que, en recórrer aquest itinerari d’una direcció a l’altra, crea una xarxa de senders molt suggeridora.

    Description: Die sprachlichen und stilistischen Schwierigkeiten bei der Lektüre von "Der traurige Detektiv" offenbaren sich darin, dass sowohl die Figuren, als auch die Autorenspräche viele und mannigfaltige Nuancen zeigen, für deren Aufdeckung manchmal sogar die größeren Wörterbücher der russischen Sprache nicht ausreichend sind. Das vorliegende Buch hat zum Teil auch einen "linguistisch-landeskundlichen" Charakter, insbesondere bei Begriffen, die durch die russische und sowjetische Geschichte und gegenwärtige Gesellschaftsordnung geprägt sind, Begriffen, die in der deutschen Sprache und Realität keine direkten Entsprechungen aufweisen.

    Description: On Features of Word Usage in Dostoevsky’s Poetic Dictionary in Connection with M.L. Uralskij and G. Mondry’s Dostoevsky and the Jews (St. Petersburg: Aletheia, 2021) . This article addresses the question of Dostoevsky’s alleged anti-Semitism with particular attention to Uralskij and Mondry’s book devoted to this topic, in which conclusions about the author’s chauvinism and xenophobia are based on his use of the word ‘Jew’ (zhid). For almost the entirety of the 19th century, however, such word usage was not a marker of anti-Semitism. Throughout his life, Dostoevsky communicated with many representatives of the Jewish people without differentitating them in any particular way from representatives of other nationalities. In the writer’s poetic dictionary, the word ‘Jew’ sometimes denotes a person who acquires unscrupulously, examples of which Dostoevsky found in all nationalities of the world, including the Russian.

    Description: Cain resumes the biblical story of the genesiacs brothers to recount it in a heterodox way. Based on the canonical biblical texts, the ethical perspective of David Maria Sassoli and in ideological discourses, José Saramago (re)reads the life of the murderous brother by a desacralizing bias, establishing a process of discursive reorganization of the Bible and, consequently, of Christianity – an ideology rooted in the social thought that the writer Portuguese intends to resolve. Our proposal is to probe such ethical assumptions questioned by the novel. Thus, we will focus on the figure of the protagonist to reflect on postures, symbolic representations, narrative functions and ideological expressiveness. Let us, through our reading, decommthe kaleidoscopic clash that the skilled narrator stages to present an ethical proposal in dialogue with renewing ideals of today's society.

Kernstück der Reformen sollte die Aufhebung der Leibeigenschaft sein. Das bedeutete, daß es nach 1855 um die Zukunft des russischen Adels ging und seine Rolle in der Gesellschaft neu definiert werden mußte.     Description: Two outstanding representatives of Russian modernism - Andrei Belyy for the movement of symbolism, Osip Mandel'tam for acmeism - chose the Caucasus as a tourist destination for their travels in the last decade of their lives within the borders of the Soviet Union. For both, the cultural-historical context was crucial in several ways in this choice. It concerns, on the one hand, the poet's own person and his cultural awareness, which refers to his integration into traditional contexts both in Russian and in world culture. On the other hand, Belyj and Mandel'štam in the Caucasus are looking for an encounter with a cultural space which, through its rich history, during which it has been exposed to a variety of foreign influences and yet retains its specific character, is able to provide these two factors in a unique way ,
    Description: Zwei der herausragenden Vertreter der russischen Moderne - Andrej Belyj für die Strömung des Symbolismus, Osip Mandel'štam für die des Akmeismus - wählten für ihre Reisen, die sie jeweils im letzten Jahrzehnt ihres Lebens innerhalb der Grenzen der Sowjetunion unternahmen, den Kaukasus als Reiseziel. Für beide war bei dieser Wahl der kulturgeschichtliche Kontext in mehrerer Hinsicht entscheidend. Er betrifft zum einen die eigene Person des Dichters und dessen Kulturbewußtsein, das sich auf seine Einbindung in Traditionszusammenhänge sowohl innerhalb der russischen als auch der Weltkultur bezieht. Zum anderen wird von Belyj und Mandel'štam im Kaukasus die Begegnung mit einem Kulturraum gesucht, der durch seine reichhaltige Geschichte, in deren Verlaufer den unterschiedlichsten Fremdeinflüssen ausgesetzt war und dennoch seinen spezifischen Charakter bewahren konnte, diese beiden Faktoren in einzigartiger Weise zu gewähren imstande ist.

    Description: Este livro estuda os discursos caracterizados pela dissonância, mais especificamente, a ironia, a paródia e o riso. Foram privilegiadas as teorias de Schopenhauer, Baudelaire e Jean Paul, já que são estudos que proporcionam uma aproximação estrutural e filosófica entre os fenômenos do riso e os discursos irônicos e paródicos. Desse modo, tal qual a ironia e a paródia, esse riso é também fruto de uma dissonância, que instaura, ao invés da certeza, a possibilidade, em lugar do uníssono, o ambivalente. O estudo dos significativos pontos de contato entre a ironia, a paródia e o riso legitima a relevância do sujeito na decodificação desses discursos caracterizados pela ambigüidade. Para a sua análise a autora analisou os textos: "O homem duplicado" (2002), de José Saramago, "O cavaleiro inexistente" (1959), de Ítalo Calvino, e "O duplo" (1846), de Dostoievski. A seleção das obras guiou-se pela estrutura dissonante dessas narrativas, nas quais se encontram muitas e variadas aplicações estéticas da ironia, da paródia e do riso.

    Description: Esta obra tem como objetivo analisar o papel que desempenhou a crítica literária na construção da cultura escrita do Oitocentos brasileiro, a partir do pressuposto de que a literatura foi a principal forma de expressão, conhecimento e reconhecimento do Brasil enquanto nação naquele período. Milena da Silveira Pereirabusca apreender em que medida o gênero, então insipiente, foi conduzido por princípios regulares e buscou definir, forjar ou mesmo inventar uma cultura escrita e uma nacionalidade brasileiras. Para a autora, a crítica literária assumiu no século 19 uma posição equivalente à de tutora dos escritores, inclusive traduzindo os anseios e projetos da sociedade, ou seja, teria pretendido ajudar a delinear as feições do literato. Boa parte do discurso crítico produzido naquele período, pontua ela, foi publicada em periódicos editados pelas sociedades literárias de São Paulo e Rio de Janeiro e por esse motivo tais textos constituem o corpus documental da obra, que dedica um capítulo específico a esses veículos. Segundo Silveira Pereira, além de grande peso como instrumento legitimador e de manutenção da prática de associar-se dos letradosdaquele tempo, os periódicos desempenharam papel importante na divulgação de seus escritos para públicos mais amplos, contribuindo assim para a consolidação da crítica literária enquanto tal e das ideias que o gênero textual procurava disseminar.

    Description: L’obra completa de Rossend Arús i Arderiu (1845-1891), dramaturg popular, republicà, catalanista, lliurepensador i maçó, integra més de cinquanta peces dramàtiques i constitueix la col·lecció més extensa de teatre vuitcentista a l’abast del lector actual. De les seves peces, que tenen una dimensió política, sobresurten els drames realistes contemporanis i en prosa, en què l’autor va ser pioner. Aquest quart volum, amb les obres escrites entre el 1883 i el 1887, completa els tres anteriors. El primer de tots inclou un estudi aprofundit de Magí Sunyer, professor titular del Departament de Filologia Catalana de la Universitat Rovira i Virgili.

    Description: Jan Satunovskij (1913-1982) ist einer der bedeutendsten Vertreter der russischen "Zweiten Kultur", jener Kultur, die in der Zeit der Herrschaft der Sowjetliteratur auf jede innere und äußere Anpassung an das von der Kommunistischen Partei Gewünschte verzichtete, ihr eigentliches Schaffen nicht publizieren konnte und nur in einem kleinen Kreis bekannt wurde. Diese Ausgabe erfaßt das dichterische Schaffen Satunovskijs so vollständig wie möglich. Das Buch enthält eine vom Autor getippte dreibändige Samizdat Ausgabe und in chronologischer Reihenfolge alle handschriftlich und gedruckt erhaltenen Gedichte.

    Description: Foreword. Dostoevsky: Paradox, Humor, Deconstruction. A foreword to the present book and to each of the 15 articles that are part of it. While the analysis of humor, paradox, and deliberate deconstruction has generally occupied a marginal position in the study of Dostoevsky’s universe, it seems impossible to understand his poetics without pointed attention to these categories. The present book aims to fill the existing gap by focusing on the nature of ambivalent humor, paradoxicality, and methods of “de-automatizing” consciousness through deconstruction. It is precisely the dialogical and paradoxical nature of Dostoevsky’s artistic method that enables such different and sometimes contradictory readings.

    Chapter Ascetism and Incontinence and Dostoevsky’s Gift of Tears (2023)

    Description: In Dostoevsky’s binary poetics, an opposition can be drawn between two fundamental stances – asceticism and incontinence. Ascetics adhere to an ethos of self-restraint in response to the desires of the flesh. Incontinents act spontaneously to gratify their desires. The current study draws an analogy between the behavior pattern of Dostoevsky’s self-denying intellectual heroes and that of exiled castrate (skoptsy) communities. Dostoevsky’s ascetics represent a cerebral mindset attracted to visions of social utopia; their intellectualizing detaches them from the life of the body and thus weirdly parallels the strictures of the skoptsy. An encounter between an ascetic and a prostitute serves as a central plot moment in works such as Crime and Punishment and Notes from Underground.

    Description: Manuel António Pina (Sabugal, 1943 – Porto, 2012) recebeu o Prémio Camões em 2011, entre vários outros. Licenciado em Direito pela Universidade de Coimbra, exerceu advocacia mas acabou por se decidir pelo jornalismo, que exerceu ao longo de trinta anos no Jornal de Notícias, onde aprimorou o seu estilo, em especial na crónica. Entre a sua estreia poética em livro com 〈em〉Ainda não é o fim nem o princípio do mundo calma é apenas um pouco tarde (1974) e Como se desenha uma casa (2011)〈/em〉, publicou uma dúzia de títulos de poesia, por duas vezes reunidos num só volume, primeiro na Afrontamento (1992), depois na Assírio & Alvim (2001). A sua poesia encontra- se traduzida em muitas línguas. Escreveu um único romance, 〈em〉Os papéis de K.〈/em〉 (2003). A sua obra direcionada para o público infanto-juvenil é uma das mais importantes da literatura e cultura portuguesas, composta por dezenas de títulos, entre ficções, poemas e textos dramáticos. Foi também ensaísta, destacando-se 〈em〉Aniki-Bóbó〈/em〉, já póstumo (2012).

The present book aims to fill the existing gap by focusing on the nature of ambivalent humor, paradoxicality, and methods of ‘de-automatizing’ consciousness through deconstruction, arguing that these are central elements in Dostoevsky’s creative arsenal. It is precisely the dialogical and paradoxical nature of his artistic method that enables such different and sometimes contradictory readings. Dostoevsky, who proclaimed «the excitement of compassion» as the secret of humor (in the ‘funny’ there is always sadness and even despair), more generally exposes in his writing the structural duality of all phenomena.

    Description: Sprach man in den sechziger Jahren von Bulat Okudžava, so meinte man vor allem den Sänger und Lyriker; fiel in den siebziger und achtziger Jahren sein Name, so dachte man an den Verfasser von Prosa mit historischer Thematik. Diesen nach außen sehr abrupten Wechsel zwischen den Gattungen nahmen ihm die einen sehr übel, die wenigen anderen feierten ihn als ernstzunehmenden Prosaiker. Unter diesem literarischen Aspekt stellt Okud žava eine der umstrittensten Persönlichkeiten der sowjetischen Gegenwartsliteratur dar, wobei auch oft politische Hintergründe eine Rolle spielten.

Wie Gil'tebrandt andeutet, unterscheidet sich der vorliegende "Slovar' Psaltiri" vom "Slovar' Novomu Zavetu" vor allem dadurch, daß bei jedem kirchenslavischen Wort vermerkt ist, ob sein griechisches Äquivalent im Psalter auch noch anders Übertragen worden ist, und dass ein griechisch-slavischer Index alle diese evtl. konkurrierenden Wiedergabemöglichkeiten übersichtlich zusammenfasst.〈/P〉

    De Afonso X a Afonso XI : Edição e estudo do texto castelhano dos reinados finais da 2ª (2021)

    Description: A Crónica de 1344, da autoria de Pedro de Barcelos, filho natural do rei D. Dinis de Portugal, é uma das mais emblemáticas obras da cultura ibérica do século XIV, com larga fortuna em Portugal e em Castela ao longo dos séculos seguintes. Teve, porém, uma transmissão textual atribulada – passando por uma reformulação por volta de 1400, seguida de uma abreviação e continuação pouco antes de 1460, além de sucessivas traduções para castelhano – da qual resultou uma tradição manuscrita bilingue e lacunar onde não se conta nenhum testemunho português da crónica original. Estas circunstâncias tiveram consequências na difusão editorial do texto. Apesar de a obra ter sido objecto de duas edições críticas, a sua secção final, contemplando os reinados castelhanos de Afonso X a Afonso XI, permanece inédita. De facto, Lindley Cintra publicou, entre 1954 e 1990, o texto português da reformulação c. 1400, que termina em Fernando III; quanto a Diego Catalán, deu à estampa, em 1970, a secção inicial da crónica original, radicalmente alterada pela reformulação e que subsiste apenas em tradução castelhana. Desta forma, a secção da Crónica de 1344 posterior à morte de Fernando III, cujo texto integral se conserva também apenas em castelhano, continua confinada aos manuscritos. O presente trabalho vai dar a conhecer esse relato de um passado recente, que documenta uma visão privilegiada das relações entre os reinos peninsulares nesse conturbado período da história ibérica e constitui uma peça chave no complexo entrecruzamento de textos historiográficos medievais em galego-português e em castelhano. Investigação conduzida no quadro do projecto “Pedro de Barcelos e a monarquia castelhano-leonesa: estudo e edição da secção final inédita da Crónica de 1344” (XPL/CPC-ELT/1300/2013), financiado pela FCT e pelo COMPET.

    Description: Onomastics and Paradox: Dostoevsky and the Collapse of the Ontological Integrity of Character. Onomastics plays a key role in Dostoevsky’s poetics: the names of most of his characters are essential to their portraits, even though these names rarely signify unambiguously. Moreover, a number of his characters are nameless and a semantic tension arises from this absence: the impossibility of “branding” the hero with a name prevents us from identifying his or her features through verbal onomastic symbolism. The portrait of such characters necessarily remains somewhat murky. It is no coincidence that the “nameless heroes” are the most paradoxical and enigmatic characters of Dostoevsky’s creative world. By denying them names, Dostoevsky seeks to destroy the inner integrity of these heroes, their identity, in order that a living, independent, and contradictory personality emerges in them.

    Description: O principal objetivo desse estudo é apontar, descrever e analisar as formas de transposição dos pressupostos brechtianos de teatro em O render dos heróis, de José Cardoso Pires, e Felizmente há luar! de Luís de Sttau Monteiro e mostrar a relação dessas peças com o período anterior à Revolução de 25 de Abril, especificamente na década de 1960, marcada pelos processos de aplicação da censura. A matriz brechtiana em O render dos heróis e em Felizmente há luar!, além de ser a estética responsável por uma tentativa de inovação das formas dramáticas praticadas em Portugal, também confirma a preocupação dos autores com a expressão de um posicionamento crítico perante a realidade, com os rumos da dramaturgia e com o papel do dramaturgo em seu tempo e lugar.

    Description: Em 1967 foi editada em Coimbra, pela Livraria Almedina, a Teoria da Literatura, de Vítor Aguiar e Silva. Reeditada desde então, profundamente repensada a partir da 4ª edição, de 1981, editada no Brasil e traduzida para espanhol, a obra, que viria conhecer um significativo impacto no Brasil e no mundo hispânico, confunde-se com a história da disciplina introduzida nos curricula universitários portugueses com a reforma de 1957, vindo também a produzir efeitos no ensino da literatura nas escolas secundárias do país. Embora o seu autor tenha publicado depois uma série de obras de referência, quer no domínio da teoria da literatura, quer no dos estudos camonianos, dos estudos sobre o maneirismo e o barroco, ou sobre as humanidades, a Teoria da Literatura permanece a obra à qual o seu nome é de imediato associado. As Universidades de Coimbra e do Minho associaram-se, no ano de 2017, numa comemoração dos 50 anos da 1ª edição da Teoria da Literatura. As Conferências do Cinquentenário discutiram as grandes questões colocadas pelo livro e pela obra de Vítor Aguiar e Silva no domínio da Teoria da Literatura e da sua relação com as Humanidades. O presente volume reúne essas conferências, juntando-lhe duas evocações, pelo próprio Vítor Aguiar e Silva, do seu percurso académico pelas duas universidades e do lugar do livro nesse percurso.

    Description: Funny Fathers. Types of the ridiculous old man in Dostoevsky’s novels. The first chapters from Dostoevsky’s novel Netochka Nezvanova deal with the fate and the peculiar story of life of the heroine’s stepfather. He is called Efimov and, being an alcoholic and overconfident, he plunges his family into misery. Therefore, he can be considered a prototype of ridiculous father figures occurring in the great novels (Marmeladov from Crime and Punishment, General Ivolgin from The Idiot and Stepan Trofimovič from The Demons). The article focuses on the determining character traits of these figures who embody the dramatic failure of the father generation. While characterising those laughable vecchi, special attention is given to the seemingly paradox criterium of the tragicomic, which finally results in questioning the tension between freedom and a predetermined fate.

    Description: 〈P〉n 1975 a group of Leningrad poets sought official permission to hold a memorial meeting commemorating the ninetieth anniversary of the birth of Nikolaj Stepanovič Gumilev (1886 -1921) the following year, as well as issuing a collection of their poetry. On April 16. 1976 the poet Oleg Oxapkin and the historian Vladimir Poreš initiated the first memorial meeting devoted to the founder of Acmeism. Since that time there have been three additional "unofficial conferences" held (1978, 1979 and 1980). At these yearly private meetings, literary historians, poets and poetry lovers converge and pay homage to Gumilev. The section containing material relating to Gumilev in this volume is significant and illuminating. 〈/P〉

    Description: The Paradox of Female Sexual Desire in Crime and Punishment: On the Question of the Female Breast . This article examines references to the female breast found in Dostoevsky’s novel Crime and Punishment to reveal the contradictory role of female sexuality in his literary world. Despite feminist inclinations and a personal familiarity with “emancipated love,” he had particular difficulty with issues of women’s sexual desire and female corporeality, associating them with danger. He actively suppressed the bodies and desire of physically attractive women in his work. In Crime and Punishment, for ex., both Sonia and Dunia attract male desire, but do not express their own. References to the female breast in his work reveal this deep ambivalence about the female body: now alluring, now menacing, now subject to torture, the breast can also be symbolically maternal or disease-ridden.

    Description: A Gentle Creature’s Paradox. The aim of this article is to analyze a smile as a mimetic, nonverbal facial expression. Although a smile most often displays joy and pleasure, it sometimes expresses emotions such as sadness, cruelty, anger, etc. This analysis aims to focus on the paradoxical “mistrustful, silent, and evil smile” of A Gentle Creature. Her smile marks the beginning of her life with the Pawnbroker and it is her companion until the end of her life. The paradox of smile illuminates other paradoxes such as that of communication (verbal/nonverbal, communication/its negation), of death (suicide and the icon, destruction/resurrection, silence/birth of words), of the Pawnbroker’s story (author-narrator, narrative/story, fantastic/realistic, contradictions in the story), and of the event (real event/event in the narrator’s mind).

    Description: About Slavonicisms in The Brothers Karamazov. This work draws attention to the function of Slavonicisms in The Brothers Karamazov. In the last dialogue between Kolja Krasotkin and Alesha Karamazov, Kolja’s lines about postmortality or immortality are stylistically limited to the framework of the middle-lower register of Russian and thus exclude any metaphysical component. Alesha’s response, in contrast, is constructed in a Slavonic idiolect that belongs simultaneously to the conventional and to the mythopoetic. Another case of this appeal to the Slavonic register may be found in the dispute between Ivan and the devil regarding the recognition or denial of the incarnation of evil in the world. Claiming incarnation, Satan tries to demonstrate the equivalence of demonic and human nature. The primary instrument deployed in this argument is a Slavonicism, claimed by Satan, but which does not belong to him.

Den Schwerpunkt bilden humoristische Feuilletons, die in der Eisenbahnerzeitung "Gudok" 1923-1926 erschienen sind.

    Description: (1º lugar na categoria Crítica Literária do 59º prêmio Jabuti) A obra, dividida em três partes, observa os mecanismos de diálogo de Machado com o leitor e o crítico, analisa a ironia no tecido retórico da narrativa machadiana e, por fim, revê a relação do escritor carioca com a cultura italiana, aqui representada por exemplos na literatura, história, teatro e ópera. Realizando uma integração de vários processos teóricos e dialogando com a crítica nacional e estrangeira, os capítulos se entrecruzam e dialogam entre si, revisitando os temas principais que contribuíram para a centralidade da obra de Machado de Assis na literatura brasileira.

    Description: Die vorliegende Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit dem Märchenband "Dokuka i Balagur'e" von A.M. Remizov. Die darin enthaltenen Märchen gehen größtenteils auf Vorlagen zurück, die in der Märchensammlung von N.E. Ončukov enthalten sind. Lediglich sieben Märchen entstammen anderen Quellen. So sind "Mertvec", "Skomoroch", "Pes-Bogatyr'" und "Medvedčik" verschiedenen Ausgaben der Zeitschrift "Živaja starina" entnommen, während den Märchen "Krasnaja sosenka", "Vory" und "Barma" private Aufzeichnungen des Autors zugrunde liegen, so daß letztere daher leider für diese Arbeit nicht zugänglich waren. Ziel dieser Arbeit soll sein, alle Veränderungen, die die Originaltexte durch die Bearbeitung durch R. erfahren haben, zu erfassen, zu beschreiben, zu klassifizieren und letztlich zu bewerten.
