Ein besonderes Augenmerk wird dabei auf die Konstruktionsmechanismen von Identität und ihre literarische Diskursivierung im Horizont einer sich herausbildenden Nationalliteratur gelegt.

Deren komplexe kommunikative Rolle wird dabei erstmals systematisch erschlossen. Aus der externen Perspektive werden die vielschichtigen Anforderungen der relevanten Stakeholder wie Investoren, Aktionärsschützer, Stimmrechtsberater und Journalisten an die Kommunikation aufgezeigt. Aus der internen Perspektive von Aufsichtsratsvorsitzenden, Investor-Relations- und Public-Relations-Verantwortlichen werden die internen und externen Kommunikationsmaßnahmen von Aufsichtsratsvorsitzenden identifiziert. Auf dieser Basis wird die Notwendigkeit begründet, warum und wie die Kommunikation zu einem festen Bestandteil des Kommunikationsmanagements von Unternehmen werden sollte.     Beschreibung: This article explores the diplomatic correspondence sent to the Doge of Venice by Peter I (1721) and by his daughter Empress Elizabeth I (1743), informing him of peace treaties that had recently been concluded between Russia and Sweden. Analyzing these letters in the context of Russia’s diplomatic and epistolary relations with Venice in the 17th and 18th centuries, we examine their structure and composition with particular attention to the presence of diplomatic and epistolary formulae to identify evolutionary changes in the diplomatic and epistolary etiquette employed by Peter I and his successors.

    Beschreibung: If the journalistic media are to be able to effectively perform their essential democratic tasks of forming public opinion and controlling state power, they must be independent of the state. At the same time, this state has to guarantee a diverse range of media and to inform the public about its activities. This tension is intensifying in the internet age, in which the expensive production of journalistic content is less and less taken for granted. This updates the state's duty to ensure media pluralism, for example by organizing a public service system or other promotional measures, and to carry out active public relations work. This in turn increases the risk that the state will influence media activity or become the media provider itself. The limits that the state has to observe in this context are worked out in this book on the basis of a cross-media, constitutional and international law analysis of the principle of the media's independence from the state.
    Beschreibung: Sollen die journalistischen Medien ihre demokratiewesentlichen Aufgaben der öffentlichen Meinungsbildung und der Kontrolle staatlicher Macht wirksam wahrnehmen können, müssen sie vom Staat unabhängig sein. Gleichzeitig hat ebendieser Staat ein vielfältiges Medienangebot zu gewährleisten und die Öffentlichkeit über seine Tätigkeiten zu informieren. Dieses Spannungsverhältnis verschärft sich im Internetzeitalter, in welchem die teure journalistische Inhaltsproduktion immer weniger als gesichert gilt. So aktualisiert sich dadurch die staatliche Pflicht, den Medienpluralismus etwa durch die Organisation eines Service public-Systems oder anderweitiger Fördermassnahmen zu sichern und eine aktive Öffentlichkeitsarbeit wahrzunehmen. Dies erhöht wiederum die Gefahr, dass der Staat die Medientätigkeit beeinflusst oder selber zum Medienanbieter wird. Welche Grenzen der Staat in diesem Kontext zu beachten hat, wird in diesem Buch anhand einer mediengattungsübergreifenden verfassungs- und völkerrechtlichen Analyse des Prinzips der Staatsunabhängigkeit der Medien herausgearbeitet.

    Beschreibung: This dissertation examines intelligence surveillance of private telecommunications and its compatibility with the international human right to privacy in Art. 17 ICCPR and in Art. 8 ECHR. These articles provide comprehensive protection against the most modern forms of surveillance including bulk interception. Several criteria apply in terms of the foreseeability of the surveillance laws. Telecommunication’s interception should be subject to authorisation and supervision by independent authorities and effective remedies should be available. Moreover, the study analyzes the extent to which the surveilling state and the state of residence violate their human rights obligations in cases of cross-border surveillance. The main question is whether the established definitions of "jurisdiction" are applicable to this extraterritorial scenario. The extraterritorial exercise of jurisdiction can also be based on effective control over specific objects relevant to human rights. According to this approach, telecommunications data are objects relevant to individual’s right to correspondence and data protection.

This book is based on the Swiss Homicide Monitor, a database that includes all intentional homicides in Switzerland since 1990. The book provides clear information on the perpetrators, victims, circumstances of the crime, the motives behind the killing, the course of the procedure and the legal qualifications. Furthermore, individual specific types of homicides (homicide-suicides, mass and serial murders, etc.) are analyzed in depth.
    Beschreibung: Tötungsdelikte gehören zu den schwerwiegendsten Delikten mit gravierenden Folgen sowohl für die Angehörigen von Opfern und Tätern/Täterinnen als auch für das Sicherheitsgefühl der Allgemeinbevölkerung. Das vorliegende Buch basiert auf dem Swiss Homicide Monitor, einer Datenbank, die sämtliche vorsätzliche Tötungsdelikte in der Schweiz seit 1990 umfasst. Im Buch werden in anschaulicher Weise Informationen zu den Tätern/Täterinnen, Opfern, Tatumständen, den Motiven des Tötungsdelikts sowie zum Verfahrensablauf und zur rechtlichen Qualifikation aufgezeigt.     Beschreibung: In 1993 Michael Wachtel published Ivanov’s Russian Faust, comprising two scenes that appear to continue Goethe’s Faust and most likely represent the beginnings of a Faust drama. Ivanov was the first Russian poet to reevaluate the second part of Goethe’s poem for its extremely symbolic content. As a result, he was considerably influenced by Goethe’s creative experience. This article examines these two Faustian scenes and, more generally, the influence of Goethe’s Faust in Ivanov’s work; adopting a comparative approach, we explore the assimilation into Russian literature of a Central European myth.

    Beschreibung: It is rare for a physician to be disbarred; it is even rarer for the disbarment to have a retroactive effect back to the time of granting. The prerequisite for this effect is that the license to practice medicine should not have been granted in the first place, either because the requirements for the training of the future physician were not met or because character defects (unworthiness, unreliability) prevented the person concerned from working as a physician. Although practically rare, the revocation of a license to practice medicine is of particular academic interest because it ultimately results in the entire medical activity of the person affected being subsequently deprived of its legal basis. Strictly speaking, in consequence, each medical intervention becomes unlawful, thus (under certain circumstances) constituting a bodily injury under criminal law as well as giving rise to liability for damages under civil law. However, neither the criminal nor the civil law consequences of such retroactivity have yet been examined in a scientifically sound manner, even to a rudimentary degree. The present dissertation is intended to close this gap, at least in the area of civil law.

    Beschreibung: In German literature, the doctrine of objective attribution has long since established itself as the prevailing opinion. In Switzerland, it has found its way into the literature and has already been included in the case law of the Federal Supreme Court on negligence offences. However, critical voices point out that the current status of the discussion is characterized by a large number of different approaches, some of which differ only marginally. A look at the literature actually shows that many essential questions, such as the raison d'être of individual aspects of attribution, are still disputed today. In this dissertation, Nicolas Leu therefore subjects objective attribution to a comprehensive and critical review that also takes into account the criminal offense system in which objective attribution is embedded.
    Beschreibung: Im deutschen Schrifttum hat sich die Lehre der objektiven Zurechnung längst als herrschende Meinung durchgesetzt. In der Schweiz hat sie Eingang in die Literatur gefunden und ist bereits in die Rechtsprechung des Bundesgerichts zum Fahrlässigkeitsdelikt eingeflossen. Kritische Stimmen weisen jedoch darauf hin, dass der Diskussionsstand durch eine Vielzahl verschiedener, teilweise nur marginal abweichender Lösungsansätzen geprägt sei. Ein Blick in die Literatur zeigt tatsächlich, dass viele wesentliche Fragen, wie etwa die Existenzberechtigung einzelner Zurechnungsgesichtspunkte, auch heute noch umstritten sind. In der vorliegenden Dissertation unterzieht Nicolas Leu die objektive Zurechnung daher einer umfassenden und kritischen Überprüfung, die auch das Straftatsystem mitberücksichtigt, in das die objektive Zurechnung eingebettet ist.

    Beschreibung: In diesem Open-Access-Buch geht Marco Lünich der Annahme verbreiteter Glaubensüberzeugungen von der Qualität und Wirkmächtigkeit von Big Data nach und analysiert die miteinander in Bezug stehenden gesellschaftlichen Überzeugungen von Erkenntnis- und Nutzengewinnen aus Big Data. Das Aufkommen der digitalen Gesellschaft ist eng verbunden mit wirkmächtigen Narrativen wie etwa der Informations- und Wissensgesellschaft. In diesem Zusammenhang wird auch die Möglichkeit der weitreichenden Sammlung und Auswertung von großen digitalen Datenbeständen betont, den sogenannten Big Data. Hervorgehoben wird dabei die besondere Bedeutung von Big Data für die gesellschaftliche Erkenntnis- und Wissensproduktion und den hieraus gezogenen Nutzen. Daher wurde in der Literatur vielfach vermutet, dass sich die Überzeugung von den vermeintlichen Konsequenzen einer Quantifizierung der Welt und vor allem des Sozialen auch in den Köpfen der Menschen verfängt und hierdurch einstellungs- und handlungsrelevant wird. Dieser vermutete Zusammenhang wird im vorliegenden Buch in unterschiedlichen Forschungszusammenhängen des Einsatzes von Technologien Künstlicher Intelligenz empirisch geprüft.

Die Ergebnisse veranschaulichen die Andersartigkeit der Lehr- und Wissenskulturen und tragen damit zur Erklärung ausbildungsprogrammspezifischer Bildungsverläufe sowie stark differierender Übergangsquoten in tertiäre Bildungsgänge bei. Ausgehend davon wird die Frage der Gleichwertigkeit allgemein- und berufsbildender Gesundheitsausbildungen in den Fokus gerückt und die daraus resultierenden Herausforderungen für die Rekrutierung des Fachkräftenachwuchses in verschiedenen Gesundheitsberufen diskutiert. Konzeptionell schlägt die Studie eine neue Perspektive auf die institutionelle Segregation von Allgemein- und Berufsbildung vor.     Beschreibung: From March 16-19, 2016, the Young Romance Studies Forum on "Center and Periphery" took place at the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg. In this volume, the dialectical concepts of center and periphery are examined from the perspectives of literary, linguistic, and cultural studies. Their relevance in Romania is examined in the individual contributions on the basis of geographical, spatial, historical, social, and linguistic aspects, in order to include different approaches and methods of analysis. In addition to a heterogeneous approach to the dimensions of the conceptual pair, the volume offers a structured presentation of the individual phenomena studied. The two thematic blocks focus, on the one hand, on diverse literary studies considerations of the dichotomy of the conceptual pair, and, on the other hand, on linguistic conceptions of center and periphery. Thus, new perspectives on both central and peripheral phenomena in Romance studies are opened up, on the one hand by presenting the range of (traditional) centers and peripheries, and on the other hand by referring to current discussions in the context of the two concepts.

    Beschreibung: Finnish Lapland is a historical borderland of Finnish and Sámi cultures. Such a region offers various social-political identifications for people to choose: people may see it possible to identify as Finnish, Laplanders, Lappish or Sámi, for instance. However, the choices have social and political limits, and some identifications are more contested than others. The book examines the processes of identifications in the middle parts of Lapland, just south of the region defined as Sámi homeland in Finland. While the study reveals differences and nuances in people’s thinking, it also shows that there is a recognizable sense of shared cultural specifity around the region. Lapland is conceptualized as an extraordinary place with unusual nature and history, characterized by particular livelihoods (such as reindeer herding) and lively cultural interaction. The book concludes that while Lapland is extraordinary as a historical dwelling region of indigenous Sámi, it may be politically significant to recognize it as a unique borderland of cultures with features of its own.

    Beschreibung: Die anhaltende Präsenz von Engeln in der Moderne wurde oft auf ein gesteigertes Trostbedürfnis zurückgeführt. Die Engelsfigur ist aber nicht bloß statisches Überbleibsel einer verlorenen Glaubensgewissheit. Vielmehr steht sie in einer produktiven Beziehung zu zentralen geschichtsphilosophischen, politischen und medienästhetischen Fragen der Zeit. Die vorliegende Studie geht den Zusammenhängen zwischen Engelsfigur und Moderne-Diskurs entlang eines Spannungsbogens nach, der von Reflexionen eines metaphysischen Exils Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts über die Zuspitzung existentieller Bedrohung im Ersten und Zweiten Weltkrieg bis zum Undarstellbarkeitstopos des Holocaust verläuft. Dabei wird deutlich, dass der Engel auf vielfache Weise als Verursacher und gleichzeitig als zukunftsgerichteter Überwinder moderner Formen des Exils auftritt – als Figur, die geschichtsphilosophische Brüche herbeiführt und individualbiographische Traumata sichtbar macht; die die moderne Deformation des Menschen illustriert und wahlweise zu heilen oder voranzutreiben versucht; und die schließlich neue politische Ordnungen entwirft und sie als ästhetische Metalepse bereits in der Exilgegenwart veranschaulicht.

In einer reichen Gesellschaft arm zu sein, bedeutet nicht nur ein materielles Problem, sondern auch die Infragestellung der sozialen und gesellschaftlichen Zugehörigkeit der Betroffenen. Um dem zu entgehen, sind die Akteure auf voneinander abgrenzbare Kontexte in ihrem Netzwerk angewiesen, in denen sie Anerkennung und Teilhabe generieren können. Wer in dieser Lage auf sich selbst zurückgeworfen ist, erfährt Armut als die Zerstörung seiner bzw. ihrer Identität als respektables Mitglied der Gesellschaft. Der Kampf gegen die Armut darf daher nicht gegen die Armen geführt werden, sondern muss ein Kampf um Orte und Gelegenheiten sein, an denen wir zeigen können, dass es (auch) auf uns ankommt. Es zeigt sich, dass materielle Knappheit in Abhängigkeit der sozialen Einbindung unterschiedlich wahrgenommen wird. Die Bewältigungschancen verschlechtern sich, je weniger Gelegenheitsstrukturen zur Erreichung von Anerkennung und Teilhabe den Befragten in ihrem sozial-räumlichen Umfeld zur Verfügung stehen.

    Beschreibung: The concept of equality of arms is often used in the context of criminal proceedings but is rarely defined clearly. The present work is preparing to give the term an outline. It highlights the historical roots of this important structural principle and shows the goals of equality of arms. The work pays particular attention to the case law of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). In the decisive evidence procedure, this requires a procedural balance between the accused person on the one hand and law enforcement authorities on the other. To what extent does Swiss procedural reality - with its postponement of crucial procedural steps in the pre-litigation - meet this demand? Based on empirical data, it is shown that the institutional superiority of law enforcement agencies in the underregulated preliminary proceedings has the potential to objectively restrict the defendant's rights of defense. The author discusses how this problem can be dealt with in a holistic view of the Swiss criminal trial using various variants.  
    Beschreibung: Der Begriff der Waffengleichheit wird im Kontext des Strafverfahrens häufig verwendet aber nur selten trennscharf definiert. Die vorliegende Arbeit schickt sich an, dem Begriff eine inhaltliche Kontur zu verleihen. Sie beleuchtet die historischen Wurzeln dieses wichtigen Strukturprinzips und zeigt die Ziele der Waffengleichheit auf. Ein besonderes Augenmerk richtet das Werk auf die Rechtsprechung des Europäischen Gerichtshofs für Menschenrechte (EGMR). Dieser verlangt im entscheidenden Beweisverfahren nach einer Verfahrensbalance zwischen beschuldigter Person auf der einen und Strafverfolgungsbehörden auf der anderen Seite. Inwieweit hält die Schweizer Verfahrenswirklichkeit – mit ihrer Verschiebung entscheidender Verfahrensschritte ins Vorverfahren – dieser Forderung stand? Auf Grundlage empirischer Daten wird aufgezeigt, dass die institutionelle Übermacht der Strafverfolgungsbehörden im unterregulierten Vorverfahren das Potenzial birgt, die Verteidigungsrechte der beschuldigten Person in unsachlicher Weise einzuschränken. Wie diesem Problem begegnet werden kann, diskutiert der Autor in einer gesamthaften Betrachtung des schweizerischen Strafprozesses anhand verschiedener Varianten.

    Beschreibung: In diesem Open-Access-Buch steht der akademische Group-Talk als Format der wissenschaftsinternen Wissenskommunikation im Fokus. Group-Talk ist die Feldbezeichnung für das wöchentliche Arbeitstreffen einer teilnehmend beobachteten Forschungsgruppe in der Computational Neuroscience (CNS). Dass (soziale) Wirklichkeit in Interaktionsprozessen erzeugt und institutionalisiert wird, ist eine aus der Wissenssoziologie bzw. dem Sozialkonstruktivismus bereits wohlbekannte Erkenntnis. Dass diese Erzeugung maßgeblich durch kommunikatives Handeln prozessiert wird, ist spätestens seit dem Kommunikativen Konstruktivismus bekannt. Zentral in vorliegender Analyse ist daher die spezifische Form des kommunikativen Handelns, das besondere Format, in dem die CNS, als relativ junger und interdisziplinärer Forschungskontext, von den disziplinär heterogenen Wissenschaftler/-innen im Feld, kommunikativ (re-)konstruiert wird. Die wissenssoziologische Gattungsanalyse dient dabei dazu, den reinen Situationalismus zu überschreiten und die soziologische Mikroanalyse (Handeln), vor dem Hintergrund einer fokussiert-ethnographischen Feldstudie, mit gesellschaftlichen Emergenzphänomenen auf Meso- und Makroebene zu verknüpfen. Erst diese systematische Verbindung des direkt beobachtbaren Wie der Kommunikation mit dem durch ethnographisches Wissen rekonstruierten Warum, überschreitet den Horizont reiner Beschreibung und führt in die Bereiche des soziologischen Verstehens und Erklärens.

    Beschreibung: The purchase of additional items in videogames, also called ‘Microtransactions’, has recently grown to become one of the dominating methods of monetization in the games industry. However, many versions of these monetization schemes face severe backlash because it appears that the ways to monetize games are increasingly influencing the contents of the medium and that those games are purposefully designed to bring vulnerable players to spend more money than they meant to. In this thesis, those points of criticism were taken into consideration and as a starting point to explore the legality of these kinds of monetization schemes from a legal standpoint. This was done with regards to the Unfair Competition Law, Youth Protection regulation and general civil law. Also, the chance-based variant of microtransactions, the so called ‘Lootboxes’, have been examined with regard to their legality under gambling regulations.

Angestoßen durch die Geschehnisse und Diskussionen in den USA beschäftigt Rassismus als mit der Polizei assoziiertes Problem auch hierzulande die öffentliche Debatte äußerst intensiv. Dabei wird offenbar, dass die Organisation Polizei in der diversen Gesellschaft vor besonderen Problemen und Herausforderungen steht, denen sie bislang nur in Ansätzen begegnet und wenig gewachsen zu sein scheint. Zugleich fehlt es im deutschen Kontext bisher an einem hinreichend breiten wissenschaftlichen Erkenntnisstand zu Rassismus in der Polizei. Vor diesem Hintergrund bietet der Band eine Grundlage für die Auseinandersetzung mit dem Thema, indem er den Forschungsstand aus verschiedenen Disziplinen zusammenführt und systematisch aufarbeitet. Die Beiträge können als Ausgangspunkt für weitere Forschung dienen, sollen aber auch eine Übersetzung der Befunde der Rassismusforschung in Richtung Polizei leisten.

    Beschreibung: The contributions to this volume deal with the concept of (in)visibility from the perspectives of linguistics, literary studies and cultural studies in the field of Romania and shed light on historical, social, linguistic and literary aspects. (In)visibility is to be understood as a gradual and potentially dynamic phenomenon that can be subject to developments and external influences and thus opens up a broad spectrum for different approaches and analyses. The volume thus contributes to structuring the field of research, establishing references to current discussions and at the same time demonstrating the diversity of the concept of (in)visibility. Thematically, the scope ranges from considerations of the visual dimension of space, (in)visibility of processes and developments, literary-medial procedures of (in)visualisation and censorship to the (in)visibility of social groups and linguistic actors as well as of individual identities and collective discourses.

Vernachlässigt wird dabei, dass Medientexte weniger Normierungen liefern, als vielmehr gesellschaftlich vorhandene Normalisierungen widerspiegeln. Lena Schurzmann-Leder zeigt anhand ihrer Analysen und Gruppendiskussionen mit jugendlichen Zuschauerinnen von Germany's Next Topmodel, dass das weibliche Aussehen in den eigenen Lebenswelten zwar eine zentrale Rolle spielt, in der Sendung aber nur peripher interessiert. Hochbedeutsam sind stattdessen Leistungsethiken im Radius von Leistung-Lernen-Können und disziplinierte, kontextangemessene Selbsthervorbringung.

    Beschreibung: In diesem Open-Access-Buch untersucht Stefanie Lütters, inwieweit Sozialkapital die verzerrte Inanspruchnahme politischer Teilhaberechte erklärt. Denn entgegen der demokratischen Idealvorstellung von politischer Gleichheit ist die politische Beteiligung durch eine Selektivität gekennzeichnet, die sich systematisch entlang sozialer Statusvariablen ausformt. Unter Bezugnahme auf die strukturelle Komponente sozialen Kapitals stehen formelle und informelle Netzwerkkonstellationen im Fokus der Untersuchung, die im Rahmen kontrastierender Sozialräume analysiert werden. Dabei verbindet die Autorin sozialstrukturelle und rationale Handlungstheorien mit netzwerkorientierten und kontextuellen Erklärungsansätzen. Die empirischen Ergebnisse bestätigen den Wert sozialer Netzwerkelemente für die politische Partizipation und stützen eine Rückführung der politischen Passivität prekärer Wohnviertel auf ihr limitiertes Sozialkapitalvermögen. Damit erweist sich nicht die statusbedingte Ressourcenausstattung als partizipationsrelevant, sondern erst deren Überführung in Sozialkapital. Die Datengrundlage bildet eine quantitative Befragung in zwei Kölner Stadtteilen.

    Beschreibung: In the years 1738/39, Gottsched was mostly concerned with two events: his departure from the “Deutsche Gesellschaft” which he had been heading and the resulting developments, and the continuation of his disputes on the philosophy of Christian Wolff which he had been conducting with the Lutheran-Orthodox theologians. Through the support of the influential Imperial Count Ernst von Manteuffel, Gottsched now acquired strong political backing. This is documented by 52 of the total of 204 letters published in this volume, a correspondence in which Mrs Gottsched also soon became involved. The letters of other correspondents also deal with Wolff’s rationalist philosophy, as well as other very varied themes such as theater, teaching of the German language in schools, the problems of Leipzig students, newspaper polemics, planned translation projects and the competing editions of the writings of Martin Opitz, the “father of German poetry”, that were undertaken in Leipzig and Zurich.

Mit der Frage nach der Stellung von Artefakten in Diskursen werden grundlegende Aspekte der Diskurstheorie und -analytik adressiert, die sich vor allem auf die Bestimmung der Ränder von Diskursen sowie der diskursiven Wirkmächtigkeit von Dingen beziehen. Auf diesem Wege wird eine Diskussion um die passenden konzeptuellen, begrifflichen und methodischen Instrumente diskursanalytischer Studien herausgefordert, zu der dieses Buch einen theoretischen und empirischen Beitrag leistet. Die entwickelte multimodale Dispositivanalyse wird im Rahmen einer qualitativ-empirischen Studie zu Drogentestpraktiken am Arbeitsplatz und im Straßenverkehr exemplarisch umgesetzt. Drogentests werden im Zuge dessen als Diskursaktanten verstanden, die im soziotechnischen Zusammenspiel mit den menschlichen Anwender*innen an der dispositiven Konstruktion von Wirklichkeit wirkmächtig beteiligt sind.

    Beschreibung: Collecting societies are central players in copyright law in Germany with an annual turnover of currently almost two billion euros. Hundreds of thousands of cultural workers are directly dependent on the exploitation of their rights by collecting societies. Critics are of the opinion that these rights owners have only insufficient influence on the supposedly intransparent distribution of funds by the collecting societies. The criticism culminated in accusations of "mafia-like structures". This paper examines the internal structure and corporate governance of collecting societies. While their activities and state supervision are partially harmonized throughout Europe and regulated in the German VGG, the internal structure of the societies as a hybrid between private and public law has hardly been investigated. With the help of interviews with stakeholders, it is possible to evaluate the status quo and to make suggestions for improvement that are suitable for raising the standard of co-determination.

    Beschreibung: This study investigates the function of the recourse to the messianic tradition of Judaism among German-Jewish intellectuals between 1900 and 1933 (Benjamin, Bloch, Broch, Buber, Landauer, Rosenzweig, Scholem). Messianic figures of thought play an important role in the Jewish discourse of identity. Moreover, they are used productively in the creation of general theories in the realm of cultural studies (philosophy of language and history, theological-political thinking). The messianic figures of speech include not only figures of thought but also rhetorical figures of speech or tropes that reflect various constellations of sacrality and secularity in the modern era.

With his appointment as professor of logic and metaphysics and his marriage to Luise Adelgunde Victorie Kulmus, Gottsched was firmly established in Leipzig by the mid-1730s. The letters offer important insights into the development of the German Society he led (especially to the first periodical on literary studies it published), into the reception and impact of his works, including his plays, and into his translating activities.

    Beschreibung: Of the 218 letters, 126 belong to correspondence with the Imperial Count Ernst Christoph von Manteuffel, a dedicated patron of the supporters of Christian Wolff and the head of the Berlin chapter of the Society of Alethophiles. In Berlin and Leipzig great hopes were placed in the Prussian heir apparent Friedrich II, whom many saw a kind of Platonian "philosopher king" who would help elevate reason and Wolffian philosophy to new heights. The letters document the development of a rationalistic strain in Gottsched's sermons. They also provide insight into the satires of Wolff's opponents written by L.A.V. Gottsched. Gottsched's speeches concerning Martin Opitz and the "book printing anniversary" (Buchdruckjubiläum) found strong resonance in the correspondence and inspired letters concerning similar undertakings. Jakob Brucker's letters illuminate the planning and creation of the "Bilder-sal", a contemporary history of notable scholars that featured biographies and portraits, and which came to include Gottsched and his wife.

Christina Lammer zeichnet die beiden Aspekte als zentrale Themenkomplexe systematisch nach und bietet neben einer Einführung in das Gesamtwerk auch neue Sichtweisen auf die Hauptwerke der Autorin. So macht sie ersichtlich, wie die untersuchte Prosa anspielungsreich sinnstiftende Prozesse von Erinnerungskonstruktionen hinterfragt und dabei die Bedeutung intersektionaler Biographien literarischer Figuren - als Resultate struktureller Diskriminierungen und Privilegierungen - inszeniert.

    Beschreibung: This collection of articles sheds light on the role of human language in interspecies interaction. The book shows that language is not necessarily what separates us from other creatures. It can also be seen as yet another dimension of human existence that is deeply rooted in our shared history and everyday life with other living beings. This volume contains six individual research articles, two short reviews, an opening introduction to the themes of the book, and an extensive, theoretical closing chapter. The studies draw on methodologies and theoretical approaches including conversation analysis and a cognitive, usage-based approach to grammatical constructions. The book further explores the interfaces of linguistics, biosemiotics, and posthumanism. The studies show how linguistic and interactional approaches can contribute to our understanding of how human and non-human animals communicate with each other during embodied activities, how human language users make sense of interspecies encounters in speaking to or about animals, and how human language is thereby impregnated by the presence of other species. The individual research articles study, e.g., interaction with co-present animals, dialectal cow calls, parliamentary speeches, narratives of nature observation, and historical laws.
