    Description: Li He (790-816) gained his early renown particularly for his lyrical reimaginings of lost song traditions from ancient times.     Description: Wang Wei has traditionally been considered one of the greatest of Tang dynasty poets, together with Li Bo and Du Fu. This is the first complete translation into English of all of his poems, and also the first substantial translation of a selection of his prose writings. For the first time, readers encountering his work in English translation will get a comprehensive understanding of Wang Wei‘s range as a poet and prose writer. In spite of the importance of Wang Wei's poetry in the history of Chinese literature, no one has attempted a complete translation of all of his surviving poems moreover, even though he was known for his skill in composing prose pieces in the recognized genres of his day (especially as a writer of commissioned compositions), very little of his prose has been translated. This translation will enable students with limited or no knowledge of Chinese to get a full sense of Wang Wei's compositional range. Moreover, since Wang Wei was known for being a devout Buddhist, having the complete poetry available in reliable translation as well as all of the prose that is connected to the Buddhist faith will be useful to students of Chinese religion.

    Description: When I started writing what later turned into an “autobiography”, I was determined to write a mere ‘post’ from a personal angle on the memory of the outbreak of the civil war in Lebanon on April 13, 1975. Suddenly, I found myself motivated to write more every time I finish writing a new post, and I started to feel that the general question that was guiding my successive writings began to appear in the following form: How did I react to that violent event, and what was its relationship to my family’s decision to emigrate to the Australian continent four years before the outbreak of the civil war?Trying to answer this overarching question, I found myself writing successively about my upbringing in Lebanon until the age of 17; about the family I grew up in; the neighborhood and the school I went to; about upper Tripoli, al-Qibba, and downtown Tripoli; about Zgharta-Ehden, the place I originated from. In this context, I started writing about my family migration to Australia, and living, working, and studying in Sydney. And finally, I wrote extensively about my second return to Lebanon around the turn of this century, my working and residing in Beirut, and about leaving work after the uprising of October 17, 2019, and the subsequent general collapse of the country leading to the decision to return permanently to Sydney. During all this, I found myself determined to delve into my personal life and even its intimate often using the socio-anthropological perspective that I had come to possess because of my work in this scientific field. Not only was this usage spontaneous due to my experience in this field, but I also considered using this perspective the biggest challenge I faced during the various stages of writing my autobiography. In other words, how can a graduate and a scholar in sociology and anthropology write his autobiography? I guess, the book in your hands is my answer to this question.

    Description: بعد خمسة عشر عامًا من إعادة الإعمار في جو من السلم النسبي خلال الفترة الممتدة من 1990 وحتى 2004، شهد لبنان منذ العام 2005 سلسلة من الأحداث السياسية العنيفة الخطيرة التي شكّلت خليطًا معقدًا من التحديات الداخلية والتوترات الإقليمية. وأدى اندلاع الأزمة في سوريا وتداعياتها السياسية والاقتصادية والديموغرافية إلى تفاقم هذا الوضع في لبنان. يسلّط هذا الأطلس الضوء على هذه التحديات الجديدة باعتماد مقاربات مختلفة تكمل تحليل التحولات في لبنان الذي سبق لفريق العمل ذاته أن تناوله في «أطلس لبنان: الأرض والمجتمع» المنشور عام 2007. وهو يأخذ في الاعتبار، بالإضافة إلى الأزمة الدولية والحركات السكانية (هجرة السكان)، الأبعاد الاجتـماعية الاقتصادية في الداخل اللبناني والمشاكل البيئية المرتبطة بالتمدد العمراني العشوائي وبالمخاطر وبالتالي إدارة استخدامات الأراضي والنزاعات المحلية التي تولّدها. هذا الأطلس هو ثمرة تعاون بين باحثين وجامعيين لبنانيين وفرنسيين. يعتـمد المقاربة الجغرافية التي تعطي الأولوية للانتشار المكاني للخصائص الاجتماعية والطبيعية. إن المصادر الرسمية محدودة تحديدًا لناحية الدقة الجغرافية وهي أحيانًا غير جديرة بالثقة وصعبة المنال. والمثال الأبرز على ذلك هي المعطيات حول عدد السكان اللبنانيين مقارنة بعدد اللاجئين. تسمح المعطيات الدولية بتحديد موقع لبنان ببن البلدان المجاورة. كما تقدّم المعطيات الغرضية التي تصدرها الوزارات رؤية مفصلة لقطاعات معينة. ويؤمّن تحليل الصور الجوية وصور الأقمار الصناعية مصدرًا لمعطيات أساسية حول التمدد العمراني والبيئة فيما تشكّل التحقيقات الميدانية الموضعية والغرضية تتمة لحصيلة المعلومات المستخدمة. يتألف الكتاب من ستة فصول. يركز الجزء الأول على الجغرافيا السياسية الإقليمية، والعنف السياسي الداخلي وتأثيراته المحلية، تحديدًا أماكن إقامة اللاجئين السوريين وعودة الظهور العلني لبعض الميليشيات والجماعات المسلحة المتصارعة في ما بينها ومع الجيش اللبناني، بحيث يبدو لبنان مرة أخرى كبلد تشرذمه الولاءات المتعددة. ويبين الجزء الثاني هشاشة النموذج الاقتصادي، فاعتماده على الاستثمارات الأجنبية وتحويلات المغتربين وتراجع الصناعة والزراعة يترجم بتفاقم الاختلالات الاجتماعية في لبنان. ويشكّل الجزء الثالث تقييمًا للعمران في البلاد، الذي زاد بنسبة %80 خلال الأعوام العشرين المنصرمة وذلك على حساب المناطق الريفية والزراعية. والساحل، وهو محط الأطماع، تدهور وأصبح مصطنعًا إلى حد كبير. ونلاحظ مؤشرات عديدة للتغير والتدهور البيئي على الأرض اللبنانية وهي موضوع الجزء الرابع. ويبدو أن بعض هذه المؤشرات تنذر بتغير المناخ العالمي وتأثيراته المحلية. وفي المقابل، هناك صلة مباشرة بين العمران المتزايد والعديد من المخاطر التي تم قياسها وتحديدها على الخرائط بشكل أكثر وضوحًا. يركّز الجزء الخامس على تردي أداء بعض الخدمات العامة المرتبط باستغلال الموارد الطبيعية كإمدادات المياه والطاقة (المتصفة بالتقنين) وإدارة النفايات الصلبة التي تمر بأزمة حادة. ويتناول الجزء السادس التغييرات في إدارة الأراضي اللبنانية المتصفة بتراجع دور الدولة أو بالأحرى تهميشها والتأكيد على الجهات الفاعلة الأخرى العاملة في المناطق، لا سيما البلديات والسلطات المحلية وهيئات المجتـمع المدني. بعد خمسة عشر عامًا من إعادة الإعمار في جو من السلم النسبي خلال الفترة الممتدة من 1990 وحتى 2004، شهد لبنان منذ عام 2005 سلسلة من الأحداث السياسية العنيفة الخطيرة التي شكّلت خليطًا معقدًا من التحديات الداخلية والتوترات الإقليمية. هذا الأطلس هو ثمرة تعاون بين باحثين وجامعيين لبنانيين وفرنسيين وهو يسلّط الضوء على التحديات الجديدة الناجمة عن التداعيات المحلية للتوتر الداخلي، وهشاشة النموذج الاقتصادي اللبناني وتدهور البيئة وتغير المناخ والخلل في بعض الخدمات العامة. كما يشكل تتمة باعتماد مقاربات مختلفة تكمل تحليل التحولات في لبنان الذي سبق لفريق العمل ذاته أن تناوله في «أطلس لبنان:الأرض والمجتمع» المنشور عام 2007. في الختام، يحلل هذا الكتاب الجماعي التحولات في إدارة الأراضي في لبنان المتجلية بتراجع دور الدولة أو بالأحرى تهميشها والتأكيد على الجهات الفاعلة الأخرى العاملة في المناطق، لا سيما البلديات والسلطات المحلية وهيئات المجتمع المدني. إريك فرداي أستاذ جامعي في كلية العلوم السياسية في باريس. عمل كباحث في المعهد الفرنسي للشرق الأدنى وبعدها في المركز الوطني للبحوث العلمية في ليون ومارن لافالي كخبير جغرافي تخصص في الشؤون العمرانية في الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا. شارك في إدارة «أطلس لبنان: الأرض والمجتمع» الذي نشره المعهد الفرنسي للشرق الأدنى عام 2007. غالب فاعور مدير أبحاث متخصص في معالجة الصور ونظم المعلومات الجغرافية وتطبيقاتها في إدارة الموارد الطبيعية. يشغل منصب مدير المركز الوطني للاىستشعار عن بعد التابع للمجلس الوطني للبحوث العلمية في لبنان منذ عام 2014. شارك مع إريك فرداي وسيباستيان فيلو في كتابة «أطلس لبنان: الأرض والمجتمع» الذي نشره المعهد الفرنسي للشرق الأدنى والمجلس الوطني للبحوث العلمية في بيروت عام 2007. معين حمزه حاصل على دكتوراه دولة في بحوث المياه والنبات والتربة من جامعة مونبيلييه، فرنسا. أمين عام المجلس الوطني للبحوث العلمية في لبنان. كان أستاذًا وعميدًا لكلية الزراعة في الجامعة اللبنانية ورئيسًا لمؤسسة الأبحاث العلمية الزراعية. تولّى مناصب رئيسية في عدد من المنظمات الدولية والإقليمية (CIHEAM, IAEA, ICARDA, CEDRE, ETC-ESCWA, AUF, COI) وبرامج أورومتوسطية.

    The Poetry of Ruan Ji and Xi Kang (2021)

    Description: The poetry of Ruan Ji has been previously translated several times, with one fully scholarly translation of both the poetry and the Fu (poetic expositions). The present translation not only provides a facing page critical Chinese text, it addresses two problems that have been ignored or not adequately treated in earlier works. First, it traces the history of the current text. The rather serious problems with this text will be, if not soluble, at least visible. Second, translations have been shaped by the anachronistic assumption that Ruan Ji was loyal to the declining Wei dynasty, when actual power had been taken by the Suma family, who founded the Jin dynasty after Ruan Ji's death. The introduction shows how and when that assumption took full shape five centuries after Ruan Ji lived and why it is not tenable. This leads to a different kind of translation, closer to what a contemporary reader might have understood and far less certain than referring it to some political event. The Poetry of Xi Kang presents a complete scholarly translation of his poetic works (including "Rhapsody on the Zither") alongside the original texts. Many of Xi Kang's poems are difficult and most are laden with allusions and quotations, adding another level of challenge to interpretation. Basic explanatory notes are provided. The translations are based on the critical modern edition of Xi Kang's work by Dai Mingyang, generally considered to be the best edition available. Important editions by Lu Xun and Lu Qinli are consulted on matters of variants, arrangement, and interpretation.

    Description: ترتّب هذا البحث في البَدء على مطمحِ مقارنة معالجة المعادن في حلبٍ في المُحترَفات التي كانت ما تزال موجودة بين عامي 2004 و 2009، مع الأنشطة عينها في عصورٍ أخرى في أوساطٍ مدينيّة. لا يتناول هذا الكتاب سوى الجانب المعاصر بشكلٍ أساسي. يرى مؤلفو هذا الكتاب أن أنشطة التعدين التقليدية الراهنة هي سستامٌ من العناصر المتفاعلة في المدينة : و هم يتطلعون هنا إلى الوقوف على بيّنةٍ من التقاطعات ما بين الأبعاد التقنية (عمليات الصنع) و الوظيفية (تنظيم العمل في المحترفات و الوضعيات الجسدية)، بلحاظ التنظيم العام للحيّز المديني بعلاقته مع الإعتبارات الثقافية و المجتمعية، فضلاً عن دور السلطات المدينية. يولي هذا المؤلَّف اهتمامه في المقام الأول بالمُحترَفات القائمة في الأسواق القديمة : الحدّادون و حرفيو النُّحاسيّات (طَرْق النُّحاس، صَهر و سَكب “البرونز”)، و مبيضو النُّحاسيّات. و يتناول أحد الأسئلة التي تثيرها هذه الأنشطة صيَغ إدماج التجديدات في المعارف العملية كما في سبل الإشتغال المتوارثة، كمثل وضعيّات العمل و العلاقة بأرض المُحترَف : العمل بوضعية الجلوس على الأرض، الجلوس على مقعد، العمل وقوفًا ؟ تتموضع الأنشطة الأكثر تحديثًا لصَهر وسَكب الحديد و الفولاذ، و الحديد الزَهر (“الفونت”)، في مُحترَفاتٍ أكبر، تقع في الضواحي في مناطق شرعية مخصَّصة لهذه الأنشطة أو في مناطق غير شرعية. و تشكّل هذه المُحترَفات جزءًا من اقتصادٍ آخر آخذٍ في النمو. ألا ينطوي الانتقال من مُحترَفات السوق التقليدية للتعدين إلى المشاغل المتوسطة نصف الصناعية على تغيّرٍ في الطبيعة اكثر منه انتقالاً في المكان ؟ توثِّق التحقيقات الحقلية التي أجراها المؤلفون، كما الرسومات، و الصور الشمسية الملتقطة، في حلب قبل عام 2011، أنشطةً مندثرة نُهبت ودُمِّرت منشآتها الواقعة على مقربة من خط المواجهة و تحوّلت إلى ميدان قتال : للشهادات هذه المُقدَّمة في هذا المؤلَّف إذن قيمة تراثية بشكلٍ أساسي.
