Firenze University Press | L’economia della conoscenza: innovazione, produttività e crescita economica nei secoli XIII-XVIII / The knowledge economy: innovation, productivity and economic growth, 13th to 18th century
    Publication Date: 2024-03-29
Description: This article explores the conditions under which alum production has developed in the Western Mediterranean, in the second half of the fifteenth century. In two decades, between about 1460 and 1480, several important production sites have appeared in the Italian peninsula or in the Iberian peninsula. They have provided European industries and crafts with quality alum, and they quickly overshadowed sources of supply, that had previously prevailed in Anatolia or the Aegean Sea. The article discusses the useful knowledge mobilized to facilitate this growth, in particular, the techniques used and the players involved in this changeover.

Firenze University Press | Nuove strategie per la traduzione del lessico artistico
    Publication Date: 2024-03-23
Description: This chapter presents a new tun in the research project Multilingual Cultural Heritage Lexicon that consists in extending the LBC French corpus through a sub-corpus on Bologna and the Emilia-Romagna region (BER). After presenting the two projects connected with the LBC corpus (UniCittà 2019-2021 and UniVOCittà – ongoing), Zotti presents the BER sub-corpus from a quantitative and qualitative point of view reflecting on its role ans its complementarity for the description of the artistic terminology in the LBC comparable monolingual corpus. Zotti concludes by showcasing the applications and results of the corpus-driven approach and its potential for inferring linguistic knowledge when it comes to (diastratic and diatopic) synonymy, suggesting new strategies for the translation of cultural-specific items.

    Publication Date: 2024-03-23
Description: This chapter focuses on the role of corpora, in particular the LBC corpus (Lessico dei Beni Culturali), in the training of (future) translators. First, a variety of teaching methodologies, such as «task», «Learners’ Bilingual Lexicography/Terminography», «Corpus-Based/ Data-Driven Learning», and «strategic competence» will be re-examined, taking into account the use of corpora at all stages of translators’ training. The article will then illustrate a case study involving two translation classes focusing on architecture and art history (including Gothic and Renaissance art). These have led to the writing of a bilingual glossary (Portuguese-French and French-Portuguese), a collaborative and ongoing project for students in translation.

Description: The contributions gathered in this book are from the eponymous international symposium held in Paris in 2019. They discuss the relationship that drawing, design and the project, understood here as a triad, have with the transformation of places. Drawing on a range of disciplines - architecture, urban planning, landscape design, geography and the visual arts - the authors explore the practices and tools adopted in the processes of representing and reconfiguring open spaces, and in the development of spatial projects for newly emerging territories. More specifically, the authors examine the role and future of drawing and non-discursive representation in contemporary socio-spatial transition processes.
