Description: Did the Federal Republic of Germany plan another European border revision just 20 years after the end of the Second World War? Did the plan call for the use of biological and chemical weapons? Bonenkamp’s ground-breaking research shows how disinformation campaigns were part of the German-German conflict during the Cold War. One such attempt by East Berlin to internationally discredit its Western class enemy was the Ministry for State Security operation named Aktion ‘Verwüstung’ (English: operation ‘Devastation’), which is the focus of this book. This campaign shows how hard those responsible in the GDR tried to attain international recognition and what enormous resources were mobilised for this. The study is based on numerous original documents

Blok in the Context of 19th–20th Century Literature,” is devoted to the study of the poet’s works, his perceptions of preceding writers’ works, and his biographical and artistic contacts with contemporaries. Description: Since the 19th century national epics have had an important function in the cultural scene of almost every nation, and the same is true for the Central and East European countries that have regained their independence after 1989. The programmatic national epic was brought to life by the German Romanticism, especially by writers such as Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm. The contributions in this volume analyse the development, relationship, and reception of European national epics. They rely on a wide concept of epic and offer studies on various texts, such as the Icelandic sagas, the „Nibelungenlied“, the „Poems of Ossian“, the „Kinder- und Hausmärchen“ of the Grimm brothers, Schiller’s „Wilhelm Tell“, Božena Němcová’s „Babička“, Esaias Tegnér’s verse epic „Frit(h)iofs saga“, the Finnish national epic „Kalevala“ and the Estonian national epic „Kalevipoeg“.
Description: Seit dem 19.

Description: The papers in this volume show the presence of Gottfried Keller, the literary father figure of Swiss literature, in the texts of the Swiss authors from 1960ies, such as Otto F. Walter, Hugo Loetscher, Adolf Muschg, and Urs Widmer. Although these authors work in the democratic tradition of Switzerland and have an almost identificatory relationship to Keller, their role in the changed political life of the 20th century is completely different from that of their great literary model. The volume also contains studies on other Swiss literary classics, such as Robert Walser and Meinrad Inglin, as well as later authors, such as Max Frisch and Friedrich Dürrenmatt, Erica Pedretti, Thomas Hürlimann, Silvio Blatter, Peter Stamm, and Gertrud Leutenegger.
Description: In den in diesem Band zusammengetragenen Beiträgen wird die Präsenz des literarischen Übervaters der Schweizer Literatur, Gottfried Kellers, bei Autoren der 1960er Jahre wie Otto F. Walter, Hugo Loetscher, Adolf Muschg und Urs Widmer gezeigt.

Description: Acta Slavica Estonica is an international series of publications on current issues of Russian and other Slavic languages, literatures and cultures. The volume „Anthropocentrism in language and speech” was prepared in memory of Mikhail Shelyakin (1927–2011), a long-time professor of the Russian language at the University of Tartu. The relation between language and the human being was M. Shelyakin’s central topic during the final period of his research. The articles focus on anthropocentrism of the linguistic sign and its realization in speech. They continue and develop the problems studied by M. Shelyakin mainly on the basis of Russian. The volume consists of three parts: anthropocentrism in word-formation and grammar, anthropocentrism in phraseology and the lexical system, and the impact of anthropocentrism on contrastive studies, translation, and the teaching of foreign languages.

Description: The fifteenth volume in the series “Studies in the History of the Swedish Language” consists of 21 articles chosen from the presentations of the 15th conference on Swedish language history that was organized by the Department of Scandinavian studies at the University of Tartu, 13–15 June 2018. The main theme of the book comprises language contact and language history. The contacts between Swedish and other languages and what these involve have constituted an active area of research during the past years. This topic is naturally linked to the historical situation of Swedish in Estonia. The articles in the volume cover a wide spectrum of research areas, including language variation and change, Swedish dialects, historical corpus linguistics, multilingualism, translation theory, onomastics, etc. With this volume the editors hope to further stimulate the notable increase of interest in the history of Swedish and not least in the study of various language contacts.

Description: Acta Slavica Estonica is an international series of publications on current issues of Russian and other Slavic languages, literatures and cultures. One of the fundamental oppositions of the semiotics of culture – between “own” (native) and “alien” (foreign) – is also important for the language, which is the foundation of any ethnic culture and in which “our own”, originally inherent in a given language, constituting its basis, and elements of the “alien” at different levels of the language always coexist. The articles in this collection make their contribution to the study of the cultural and social characteristics of the language by studying the complex interaction of “own” and “alien” in language and speech.
