Description: A general purpose, user oriented graphic support package was implemented. A comprehensive description of the two software components comprising this package is given: Display Librarian and Display Controller. These programs have been implemented in FORTRAN on the XDS Sigma 2 Computer Facility. This facility consists of an XDS Sigma 2 general purpose computer coupled to a Computek Display Terminal.

Description: The Harvard College Observatory photoelectric spectroheliometer on the Apollo Telescope Mount operated correctly in orbit from May 29, 1973 to Feb. 7, 1974. During this period many thousands of spatial and spectral scans at extreme ultraviolet wavelengths were recorded during observations of a variety of solar features. The construction and modes of operation of the instrument are outlined and the principal scientific results from a preliminary analysis of the data are described.

Description: The development of a test engineer oriented language has been under way at the Kennedy Space Center for several years. The result of this effort is the Ground Operations Aerospace Language, GOAL, a self-documenting, high-order language suitable for coding automatic test, checkout and launch procedures. GOAL is a highly readable, writable, retainable language that is easily learned by nonprogramming oriented engineers. It is sufficiently powerful for use at all levels of Space Shuttle ground processing, from line replaceable unit checkout to integrated launch day operations. This paper will relate the language development, and describe GOAL and its applications.

Description: The purpose of the Aircraft Noise Prediction Office (ANOPO) at Langley Research Center is to provide a focal point for NASA's aircraft noise prediction activities and an appropriate interface with other agencies and industry. An interim prediction system is now in operation, which includes a program for source modeling leading to noise prediction for a single event, two complementary multiple event prediction programs which predict NEF contours on the basis of interpolation of noise, thrust, and altitude data, and the FAA data base for the commercial fleet. An integrated multimode aircraft noise prediction program has been designed, and a mechanism for continuously providing current prediction technology to be incorporated in the program has been implemented.

Description: HAL/S is a higher order language and system, now operational, adopted by NASA for programming Space Shuttle on-board software. Program reliability is enhanced through language clarity and readability, modularity through program structure, and protection of code and data. Salient features of HAL/S include output orientation, automatic checking (with strictly enforced compiler rules), the availability of linear algebra, real-time control, a statement-level simulator, and compiler transferability (for applying HAL/S to additional object and host computers). The compiler is described briefly.

Description: The white light coronagraph (WLC) experiment of the Skylab/ATM obtained an unprecedented series of observations of the solar corona from 1.5 to 6 solar radii for approximately eight and one-half months. Coronal evolution and disruptions seen by the WLC occur on many different time scales. Some illustrative examples will be shown. The characteristics of mass ejection coronal transients - as we presently know them - will be given. These include: the greater than expected frequency of occurrence; the correlation with solar activity; the quantity of mass and energy contained in a transient; etc.
